THAT'S THE OTHER THING. I mentioned Skizz specifically because to me that's the most blatant example of skin tone bias but looking where people choose to deviate from the in-game skins is genuinely very interesting to me. Obviously this is not always indicative of one's bias, I know I change all their colours for Aesthetic Purposes and think most artists do the same, but it's gets interesting for characters like Joel who have very. Hard to work with "canon" skin tones like what the fuck is that.

even the artist who did his esmp2 skin seems aware his skin tone is weird, since it is so different there.

I'd be interested to hear what you think is "weird" specifically about Joel -- I personally find the tendency to make his undertone super pink very brain-gears-turn-y.

I once did a "canon colours" (picked from skins) vs "my colours" thing a while back and I think stuff like stuff really shows what a difference picking your own colours makes.

did a paintover just for fun colourpicking from a more recent drawing of him (specifically the grian i drew for hermit a day may) and I think it's interesting how that yellow undertone ended up returning, although that could b attributed to my style as a whole shifting towards favouring warmer tones.

Since this was. supposed to be about Joel I did the same for him.

his skin tone got significantly lighter, but he also got a smidgen 🤏 more of his yellow undertone back.

sorry this became more me geeking out over colours because skin tone is just one droplet in the bucket of colour theory and character design but. yeah. cool stuff.

I'm tired of waiting am I gonna have to be the guy who writes the colorism in fandom post about Skizzleman, specifically how it is common (maybe even standard) to see him drawn much lighter than both his in-game skin and his irl appearance.

I genuinely don't want to because I would be forced to tackle the nuances of how skin tone is simplified when it comes to perceptions of race (and how that impacts brown CCs with lighter skin tones like Bdubs and I'd argue Pause as well) especially when it comes to cartoonifying and how this is relevant to Skizz because he's technically "white" (afaik) but only by modern understandings of that word and then add in like four paragraphs of disclaimers to try and dissuade people to getting defensive explaining that I don't view this as a BIG ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE SOLVED NOW and more of an interesting reflection on how colorism impacts how we view pale as default. but at the same time I genuinely feel gaslit looking at fanart sometimes disclaimer you don't have to disclaimer this is all theory disclaimer skizz dgaf disclaimer yes I am talking about whitewashing a white guy but if you are reading this may I urge you to consider making him just a tad more olive before I feel the need to check namemc for the fiftieth time to see if i have been hallucinating melanin.

So this took a while! It would have been up sooner, most likely, but Kirby decided to rot my brain for a while.

This is for my Pokemon/FFCC AU, and is part of what could be considered the main story, following Akari and Rei (or Dawn and Lucas). Return to Sender takes place in the same AU, though that mainly follows the train twins.

I learned a lot doing this, and although I know I could probably polish it more, I just want it to be done so that I don't lose motivation with the project and get discouraged. It's time for it to be finished, so it's finished -- not perfect, but as close as it will get.

Tried emulating the fancy script that they use for the dungeon names for the handwriting; it was tricky. Fun fact, I was so into FFCC when I was younger that I actually thought it'd be fun to absorb the script's fanciness into my own handwriting -- thus, my handwriting was once nigh illegible, but has settled to something halfway between cursive and print, still with some excessive swoopiness here and there.

It's never really stated who the narrator is referring to in the opening narration for the Lynari Desert, but I somehow always assumed that it was Hurdy/Gurdy. He would be the most likely to know of a "treasure" hidden in the desert, after all, though he might not remember why. Also, Gurdy is the one you learn the riddle from, so I guess I always just thought it was him.

Anyway, the man in question is Emmet this time around. What's he doing here? I'd love to tell you, but I'll let y'all ruminate on it because this is getting long and alas, I'm too tired to attempt much more coherent thought.

Okay so like. In my mind Yosuke totally came out to Kanji first when he got over his internalized homophobia shit, apologizing to Kanji and asking him for advice and shit. Kanji makes a couple jokes and stuff just to get back at him, but is overall very supportive because he's a good dude overall and knows how hard this is for Yosuke.

So imagine Yosuke being all "I don't know why it ended up like this, but I met a guy I really care about and before I knew it, I really liked him..." only for Kanji to just immedietly say "It's Yu, isn't it?". Yosuke worries about it being that obvious, to which Kanji assures it is to literally everyone but Yu. This would be all nice and funny but I'm a diehard Soukan-er so.

Yosuke gets all embarassed that Kanji could tell, and Kanji kinda just shrugs and is like "Eh, I like him too." Yosuke just blinks and before he can say anything Kanji gets a sad look and tells Yosuke he doesn't have to worry about him trying to get between them or anything, because he can tell Yu likes Yosuke way more than he likes him.

I see a lot of people (including myself) tend to think Nero was accidental. That he wasn't planned on either Vergil's part or Nero's mom's part, he was just a byproduct of circumstances or whatever and thats why he was abandoned by his mother in the orphanage.

But what if he wasnt accidental at all?

What got me thinking about this was Vergil's line in his ending in DMC4SE; "Soon they shall know this devil's power. The power of a son of sparda".

Theres no way he would've been talking about Dante. By that point in time he likely assumed Dante was either dead or long gone off on his own thing, and he probably wouldn't be meaning himself either because he's leaving fortuna in this cutscene. That leaves one option: Nero.

Vergil wanted to follow in his father's footsteps. Thats why he was in Fortuna in the first place, to learn more about Sparda and the life he lived, what he did and accomplished, etc. Sparda had two sons, and you probably know where im going with this by now.

Maybe thats why Vergil did too. He wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps, and being the misguided and naive teenager he was, he couldve thought that was the next step in his journey. (Then promptly realized he either didnt want or wasnt ready for a son and fucked off)

Another thing that makes me lean into this theory is how he reacted to the revelation of Nero being his son from Dante in DMC5. He didnt sound all that surprised, if you ask me.

His reaction comes across to me as if he knew of this "son" ready, but of course since he had never met Nero in his life, he didnt know who this son was. He knew he had a son, he just didnt know it was Nero specifically;

Nero, who he'd just spent basically an entire game relying on and trusting his fate to (and dante ig but thats not the focus here) as V, Nero who he ripped the arm off of to regain Yamato unknowing of who he really was - only that he had Yamato - and Nero who he'd just abandoned yet again to fuck off to the top of the Qliphoth where he intended to meet one of two fates to his battle with Dante; death, or survival, and neither of those involved his son at all.

And now that he knows who his son is, now that he's met and has known his son for a while now actually, he's left to deal with the guilt of abandoning him and leaving him on his own for the last 25(ish) years. For hurting him, mutilating him, damn near fucking killing him as Urizen. This son who he never had any intention of knowing, ever, not even once.

This son who he now has to learn to love, or at least accept as a part of him and his life, whether Nero himself accepts it back or not.

(And yknow, i think things will work out fine for them if capcom ever decides to make another entry into the timeline. Nero seemed pretty set on keeping his father alive after all, why would he bother if he didn't care? And Vergil seems to be making an effort - albeit an awkward one but its still an effort nonetheless - to be present in Nero's life at least to some degree judging off that main menu screen of them sitting together in the van in tense silence.

And he does care about Nero, way more than he lets on. Gifting his book to Nero is clean proof of it, that book which represents his heart. His love, his soul, his being.

So yeah. I think they’ll turn out okay.)

VERY hung up on the imagery of Vaggie prying the muzzle off Lute's face with her spear, good lord

Lute has never felt worse in her entire 172 years of existence. It’s not a life tools don’t get lives. Forced to be on her knees so Vaggie could get her spear angled properly, her feathers still singed and her clothes still torn and dirty from being discarded. Of course she was discarded she’s even more defective than Vaggie.

The looks of horror and pity and confusion shes being given just make her feel small and fragile. She wants to fight, to flee, but there’s a spearhead pressed against her face and her wings still ache to much to do much more than hold them off the ground.

The spear nicks her cheek and Lute just stares at the blood on the ground. She doesn’t hear Vaggie apologize.

Like the blood of the people she couldn’t save God what was wrong with her was she really this fucking useless? This broken?

She half expects Vaggie to put her spear through her head, to end Lute right then and there while she was so pitiful vulnerable.

Okay so hear me out. In the 80s, there was a direct sequel to the original Parent Trap, set and released 25 years later, also starring Hayley Mills as the original twins, but they’re adults and one of them (Sharon, the one whose 90s counterpart is Annie) is divorced with a daughter. Sharon sends her daughter to an all-girls school, where she becomes besties with another girl (who is not her twin, for once) that has a widowed father, and they plot to get their parents together and enlist the help of Sharon’s cool California twin Susan (again, this is 60s Hallie), who’s not only game to get her sister a man, but agrees to pose as her and go on a few dates with this guy (despite herself being married lol) to get the ball rolling. I'm confident they would have been there to help her succeed during that first ever battle she was in and justified it through loopholes as always ("she's still leading them into battle, Michael! Nobody said she had to do it all alone!") and I think they were the ones who made sure she had a miraculous recovery from that arrow that hit her the one time. More than likely they kept showing up to check on her, and would give her advice or a narrow escape from disaster each time, but unless they had a very extensive plan to fake her death and hide her for the rest of her life, I feel like her being burnt at the stake would be one of those "it's always too late" moments like when they had to sit and watch Jesus be crucified after Crowley showed him all the kingdoms of the world. They could keep her company every so often, and gift her some of the men's clothing she liked, and have lunch with her once or twice, and keep her safe, but only for so long. She had free will, and even if she was warned of what was going to happen to her, she didn't seem to ever want to hide from it, and I don't think they could have convinced her to. It's just one more time that Aziraphale realizes how cruel Heaven can be (Michael came to her knowing how dangerous this all was, and is not upset about her death at all) and it's one more time Crowley realizes he cares about Earth and humanity and bringing good to people's lives more than a demon should be allowed to. More than likely they were the ones who started to convince people after the fact that burning her at the stake was wrong, and they popped over in the 1920s to push the Catholic church to canonize her, then pushed to make her the patron Saint of France a bit later, and on their way out of France they grabbed Aziraphale some crepes. Aziraphale makes an offhand comment about how much Joan would have enjoyed eating with them again if she was still around. They leave a plate of crepes at the spot where she died.

Like out of all the guys, he’s definitely an the closest thing we have to a Natural Alpha, he’s big, he’s strong, he’s agressive and dominant (not sexually but how he holds himself around other ppl) and Gar would just FEEL some sort of anger and jealousy when he sees Reader giving Hank any type of attention, even tho he KNOWS nothing’s ever going to happen (cause 1.
