Since the edited episodes are starting to come out, I figured that bc of that and the fact that I've been keeping this in the back burner for a loooong while now, might as well complete all my friendlocke violet gijinkas!! Some are gonna stay the same while others are gonna have slight/ complete redesigns, so please keep that in mind!

LARK:

HUGE nerd. spent most of his time during the Uva Academy studying different kinds of pokemon as well as different fighting styles he can utilize once he is able to go out on his own journey with his very own trainer! Too bad that didn't really help in the long run...

His entire wardrobe consists of McDonald's related outfits. It's fucking insane. He even has some from long LONG ago that aren't available anywhere else.

The bubble pattern on his hair is able to move and change. Nobody knows how this is possible, not even Lark himself. All Lark knows is that his hair looks incredibly stylish!

Speaking of bubbles, he has the ability to blow bubbles whenever and wherever he pleases!

Often keeps himself extremely clean and gets upset if even a small speck of dirt gets on him, despite this he somehow smells like McDonald's food and axe body spray. Disgusting. He's so cool!

Even after death he still likes to hang around the other team members as a ghost, often getting to know the newer members as well as reuniting with the old ones. Sometimes they see him, sometimes they don't. It usually depends.

SARA:

Due to being a human in her past life, Sara is able to actually speak with the other humans in the pokemon world. However she usually doesn't due to it being seen as extremely weird and out of place. She did slip up once while talking in the presence of Arven, who thought it was the weed making him hear things.

Oinkologne are usually unable to do much with their hooves but Sara spent nights practicing how to knit with her new hooves and now she's able to do it flawlessly. I don't know how she managed to do that but go queen!

When first joining the team she'd often have the urge to eat her food related companions. It was a strange time for Sara, but she managed to overcome it.

When Peppy gets sick, she usually is the one who nurses him back to health. She was a human once so she often is able to figure out whatever sickness Peppy has and treat it properly. I suppose she's like a second mother to him.

The bag she carries with her is full of thread that she collected from various Tarountula she encountered on the journey, as well as little things she knits together in her spare time.

For the most part, Sara forgives... but NEVER forgets.

Pastey:

Before joining the team, Pastey was a nameless wanderer. He's been down every road in Paldea and knows almost the entire region (except for Area Zero) like the back of his hand.

He's gotten hurt pretty badly throughout the run (ie. the Mikey fight, the Atticus fight, and ESPECIALLY the final battle), however, he does not gain any (physical) scars from those fights. This is bc he's basically an axolotl, and axolotls are usually able to heal without scarring.

Pastey's "arms" are, to put it simply, mud prosthetics. More info here vvv

Pastey HAS met Mall Bingo once before the run, however, he doesn't recognize her. The only reason he does not recognize her is bc she wears glasses. (You know how people somehow aren't able to recognize Superman bc he wears glasses in his civilian attire even tho his face remains the same? It's basically like that lmao)

Unlike the lightbulbs he eats, the gasoline he drinks isn't really mandatory to his diet. Gasoline is like alcohol to him and he drinks it like an absolute CHAMP.

He goes fishing when there's nothing else to do or when he can't sleep at night. He doesn't do this bc he thinks it's fun or anything, only bc it's a "good time passer" or so he claims. Other members of the team will often sit with him and vent out anything that's troubling them at the moment, and Pastey is always there to listen to them.

//Alright my dudes, buckle up. I finally finished this, and it's LONG. My apologies in advance, because while I did graduate from university I'm in no means good at analysing or repurposing concepts to fit my narrative. But I had fun thinking about this, so...

◖Mielelambda, the Disciple of Life - Growth and Stagnation◗ ᓚᘏᗢ

I was scouting for new music and came across this print by artist Ravi Zupa. Not only it goes hard as fuck, but the quote struck me right in that brain partition responsible with coming up with Miele.

"Those who are flexible and yielding are the disciples of life”

I went to search for the origin of the quote, and found out it's from Chapter 76 of Tao Tê Ching by Lao Tzu, perhaps loosely based on a translation done by J.H. Macdonald in 1996. Here's the full quote:

"The living are soft and yielding; the dead are rigid and stiff. Living plants are flexible and tender; the dead are brittle and dry. Those who are stiff and rigid are the disciples of death. Those who are soft and yielding are the disciples of life The rigid and stiff will be broken. The soft and yielding will overcome.”

The reason I'm writing about it today is that this quote really resonates with two of Miele's core concepts, stagnation and growth.

Miele has never thought to be different or better than other Arrancars for not resorting to brute strength --if anything, because they were a below-average regular Arrancar born without the aid of the Hōgyoku, they knew they had to find a way to compete with Arrancars of their level to survive.

They observe the Hollows around them tearing eachother apart, growing stronger, only for them to be found and eaten by even stronger Hollows. It's a cycle, a pattern of Hollow-eats-Hollow that defines Hueco Mundo as a world of stagnation, a world where growth is only allowed by pure strength, and even then this growth is coded and expected for the cycle to continue.

(Objectively, examples could be found of efforts to make a difference, like Harribel's, but ultimately, at least in Miele's eyes, they're not enough to bring real systematic change.)

Miele thinks to be circumventing it alltogether by relying on their exceptional hearing and becoming a scavenger, feeding off small animal-like Hollows with little nutritional value (think of Kukkapūro), but in truth they still participate in it, just by maintaining their place at the near bottom of the “food chain”. Again, stagnation: too stubborn to bow their head to someone who could give them a purpose, they don’t even seek to become stronger, they accept that they will never grow any stronger or weaker as long as it allows them to survive.

The moment they are unable to adapt is the moment they are brought to the brink of death. Their environment has changed again, and their inability to evolve along with it (mainly coming from refusing to associate with the new ruling body, Harribel) causes them to fail and be defeated.

Once found by the recruitment squad, they are, for the first time, presented with a choice, a new opportunity to adapt. And they are able to take such opportunity, thriving in this new environment, because they are put in front of the fact that they are weak, and therefore need to leave behind all obstinacy and pride. Thus, they become flexible, soft, yielding --which also explains their sudden change of demeanor to a more meek and subservient one.

Another translation of the quote I'd like to include because it's one of my favorite of the variants I could find, and I think encapsulates well the concept of growth:

"The stiff and strong Are Death's companions The soft and weak Are Life's companions. Therefore the strongest armies do not conquer, The greatest trees are cut down. The strong and great sink down. The soft and weak rise up." (translated by Stephen Addis, 1993)

Miele truly becomes a disciple of life. After escaping stagnation, aka the never-ending cycle of Hollow-devours-Hollow, they choose to run from it.* It is all brought by chance (incosistency, variation in the cycle). They discover just how much they are attracted to life, and how much they needed change: they love watching things grow - anything from plants to buildings to people - the change brought by the seasons, even the day-night cycle.

Every day is unique, made of new experiences and meetings. Even when it becomes the norm, after centuries spent repeating the same actions and feeling the same emotions over and over again, it doesn't become dull. Even the tiniest variations from day to day are a joy for Miele to notice and live through.

The site's very own description of the print that prompted all this nonsense wraps it all up perfectly, in my opinion:

"Chapter 76 of the Tao Te Ching describes how being rigid and uncompromising makes us behave the way dead things behave. Dry leaves, dead wood, corpses. These things are stiff and brittle. When we behave in a way that is flexible and yielding we behave like things that are living. Green leaves, living branches and stems, living bodies."

In the end, Miele is able to develop better in Soul Society because of their frailty, which makes them capable of accepting change and adapt to a new environment, social structure and customs. Perhaps they’ve only joined another cycle, but they’ve done so by accepting the incosistency of life, developing new parts of themselves and gaining strength through a more personal and emotionally-driven path.

*Note: does this make them a coward? Yes. I have never considered Miele to be brave, they are an opportunist who only applies the notion of honor to their Division. They don’t see worth in themselves alone because their life in HC never had one, and they are just now pursuing one.

There is nothing courageous about joining the victorious enemy, and they don’t believe to have the strength to bring the sort of change they need to HC. They loathe Aizen and his lot for meddling with the balance of its ecosystem, but even after his defeat, they have no intention to try and make it better. They only bend the knee the moment it is entirely favorable to their survival, and to an authority which wasn’t imposed on them by divine right as much as it was done through bartering (a new, sheltered life in exchange of service).

I have not yet made any posts specifically with these questions in mind, no. Just a small, unfinished, series about why I believe the ship is likely to be canon. I am happy to offer some insight, but I don't know that I'm going to give you the answers you're looking for. 😅

First and foremost, the questions you're asking aren't really ones that can be answered objectively. What makes a ship "good" or "bad" is largely subjective, as there are as many ways to view a ship as there are people viewing it. I could make an argument about how I think it is - objectively speaking - a well written pairing that follows the typical beats and tropes (with delightful subversions) of a good romance arc, that also parallels how other canon ships within RWBY have been established... but at the end of the day, if you're not a fan of what RG is about, then there's not much I can say to change your mind.

Which brings me to your second question. The best reasons to ship RG are going to be the same reasons for why anyone should ship anything: ship it if you want to, ship it if it resonates with you, and ship it if you enjoy it.

If their characters, interactions, themes, parallels, allusions, tropes, symbolisms, foils, designs, messages, etc., aren't your cup of tea, it's completely okay if you pick something else on the menu! So long as you don't like. verbally harass people that do like it or fill the tag w the same discourse that we are all very tired of seeing.

I don't know if that is a sufficient answer to your question, so I'll take a chance and also provide some of my personal reasons as to why I think it's "good" and why I ship it. While there are many reasons I can't all include, the main things are just how much they mirror each other:

From their complementary character designs (red vs. green, silver vs. gold, moon vs. sun, etc.),

To shared fairytale allusions (Little Prince and the Rose, Dorothy and Princess Ozma/Tip, Warrior in the Woods, etc.),

To the narrative parallels (both being the youngest of the group when they joined respectively; how both of their attachments to each other keep being put into focus; to their shared themes around choice and identity: Ruby having chosen adventure but feeling as if she has no choice but to keep moving forward, while Oscar was chosen by adventure but chooses to do what he can despite his circumstances; Oscar not knowing who he is because of the merge and asking: "I'm just going to be another one of his lives, aren't I?", versus Ruby not wanting to be who she is after chasing the the ghost of an unachievable ideal, but being asked "what if you could be anyone?"; how they're both just kids thrown into war and unfair responsibility before they even have a chance to figure out the kinds of people they want to be, etc.),

to perhaps, most importantly, the show of mutual support between the two of them.

Ruby supports everyone as best she can. She is always giving to and supporting others as a show companionship and leadership. But thanks to V9 and also E4 of RWBY Beyond, we know this was not sustainable or sufficiently reciprocated.

She was let down by Weiss who constantly managed to hit her right in her insecurities; let down by Blake who - even while trying to uplift her - just ended up adding more pressure by treating Ruby like a role model; to Yang and Qrow who both tried to support her as best they could, but kept comparing her to Summer in the process; to Penny having so much of her own lack of experience, stressors, and very immediate worries going on that she couldn't offer Ruby the support she needed even if she wanted to; to Jaune flipping his lid at her and pointing the blame even when he himself was guilty and knew he was out of line; to Ozpin, Qrow, Maria, Tai, Summer, Cordovin, Ironwood, etc., all being adults who could have taken responsibility or done the right thing, but fumbled or failed leaving her to pick up the pieces in their wake. But Oscar? We see it from Oscar's introduction that he - like their shared fairytale allusions - is in awe from the moment he meets her. But after one conversation about the weight of her grief, trauma, and the responsibilities she is carrying - a conversation she has not had with anyone else up to this point - he immediately sees how heavy Ruby's burdens are. Saying, as early as V5: "This must be really hard on her too". And while it is subtle, he never stops looking after her as best he can as the volumes go onward ("Looks like you're needed elsewhere."/"You're sure?"/"Yeah, I've got it."). However, it's only in V9 that her sister Yang is asking "why didn't she just talk to us?". It is only in V9 when her partner Weiss admits: "Maybe it's because she didn't feel like she could". It is only V9 when Ruby finally lays her burdens out to someone else again, this time to the Blacksmith, after almost having given up completely.

For a character who's 116 episode long arc has been about carrying the weight of responsibility far beyond her limits, never asking for anything in return no matter how difficult it gets... to meet another character that instantly notices her struggles and makes a conscious effort to help where all others have failed? To have one conversation and say "that looks heavy, let me help you carry that" without her asking or waiting for an answer? It's just one of the most beautiful acts of care I can think of. The themes and the parallels all resonate very strongly with me on a personal level, making it - in my humble opinion - a brilliant, and very stable foundation for a relationship, and for a story.

I will assume you are not familiar with visual novels (for the sake of answering the question as best as I can if anyone else stumbles upon this ask), so let's break down Lost in Limbo to its basics! If you have any more doubts, you can always send another ask! 💜

✦ Lost in Limbo is a dark-fantasy romance visual novel...

As the title says! A visual novel is a videogame genre mostly defined by its interactive nature and for heavily leaning into its narrative aspects. It's like reading a 'choose your own adventure' book but seeing 'everything' that is happening on the screen. Interactive fiction, they also call it!

You basically play through a story, reading it, having visual depictions of the characters and the places as the story happens*, and you can usually change the story's outcome or some other aspects like relationships via choices or other forms of interaction. There's usually a couple of different endings to the 'same' story!

*Not all visual novels have choices, or have all their characters / scenarios depicted, etc. There's a lot of ways to do a visual novel!

Lost in Limbo is focused on the romance / fantasy genre, and the story takes place in a fictional world you'll explore as you play. You'll be able to experience the story through seven different 'routes', meaning you'll have to choose a character to romance and find more about the story and the cast through that very same romance. This kind of visual novels are often referred to as 'otome', 'amare', or 'dating-sim'. Each term has its differences so if you are interested, I suggest doing some research on them!

I don't think you really read what I write, you see what you want to see, but I like to make consistent arguments and analysis, so I'll answer this for my own enjoyment.

Let's do it from the top.

Yeah, sure, Zen says 'if he was a woman'. Take that as you will. What IS hilarious, however, is that you decided to say they love each other as brothers in the same breath. Which is never ONCE canonically stated. Who does call Yoosung a 'little brother' is MC, and the 'if he was a woman' line comes specifically from an interaction when she does. And I will remind you, when she does, Zen answers with this:

Not only does he NOT call him a brother, his mind immediately turns to romance. This is a normal and hinged thing to say about someone you like as a 'brother', according to you. I should go ask my brother how he'd feel if I said shit like this about him. I don't think he'd like it.

But, again, interactions can be read in different ways. And I think we already overanalysed this one. We won't come to an agreement about it. The facts are the following:

Zen and Yoosung never refer to each other canonically as brothers;

Zen and Yoosung are not related, by blood or legally.

If you wanna be pedantic about it, Zen joined the RFA when he was 20, and Yoosung 17. They don't seem to have interacted much right off the bat, Zen wasn't really a willing participant in the RFA, and he wasn't extremely friendly, per se, as evidenced by the Christmas DLC. They likely first met in person at the second RFA party, when Yoosung was 18 and Zen 21, and picked things up starting around there. Somewhere after that, as mentioned by Yoosung, they got so close that they would just call each other to yap on the phone about everything and nothing. For all intents and purposes, they indeed are two unrelated adults who care for each other very much. Or, friends. There is such a format of relationship, besides romantic and familial. And friendship sometimes blooms on its own, and sometimes it does bloom into romance. Believe it or not, like it or not.

On that note, who Zen does explicitly say reminds him of his brother is Jumin. Out of curiosity, do you go after juzen shippers?

Your next question is 'would I ship V with the twins'. What if a mouse drove a Honda Civic, amirite? V/Chois is not a good choice to exercise your whataboutism, because it has literally zero in common with yoozen, but I will entertain you. I don't think I'd ship it. In part, it's because V, a rich young adult, met the twins when they were fifteen and poor, and was quite heavily present in at least Saeyoung's life starting from there, but also because he had immense power over them, financial, connectional, and informational. However, that is not, and was never, the case with Yoosung and Zen. So I don't see how not shipping V with the Chois while shipping Yoosung with Zen would be hypocritical of me.

Besides, that ship just lacks substance to me because I don't see the dynamic necessary.

Also, V is barely a 'father'. At best, he's a shitty irresponsible guardian, but that's a question for a different discussion.

Up next: I don't write Saeyoung smoking or drinking alcohol, I don't know why you felt the need to ask me that. Everything I write or draw about the mysme characters, I like to keep canon-compatible. Saeyoung doesn't smoke or drink, his self-destruction takes on other forms.

And finally, my favourite thing that you saved for last, and I did, too. Never have I once tried to 'force' you to be like me. I literally explicitly said 'you do your thing, I'll do mine', yet here you are, sending me anon rants about how wrong I am. I told you, I've been doing my character analysis, and I don't think I'm misinterpreting any of them. I just stick by my opinion and my reading, is that a wrong thing to do in your books?

I'm not in power over anyone in this fandom, and I don't act like I am. You could probably say I'm normalising shipping Zensung. Which, well, maybe I am. But with that, what I think I am normalising is sweet friends-to-lovers dynamics, where both parties genuinely love and care about each other, engage in sexual and non-sexual intimacy with kindness and mutual admiration, learn from each other and are in active exchange. They have their own flaws and hangups, and sometimes they take it out on each other, but at the end of the day, they're able to tackle problems as a team. I want to see such relationships, and I write them. You can do the same with what you want.

My annual self-review!! Yippee! My fics uploaded to ao3 was WAY WAY lower than previous years (2022 and 2023) which is not for lack of thinking about supernatural, but because I was doing a Masters for most of the year lol. Still, 28,816 words over 12 fics is nothing to sniff at! And that again doesn't include things only on tumblr or my many, many, many works in progress!

I will discuss the fics I posts, and then I will discuss all the projects I did for my Publishing Masters as a part 2 because I worked damn hard on them and this is a space for my personal reflection regardless of if anyone else can access them! The Year Of Small Relationships

Something about these little guys really compelled me this year.

Saint of the Smallest Sun Becky/Ambriel Becky thinks Ambriel is going to save her from the Apocalypse. Ambriel just wants to be left alone. The first time Ambriel came to earth, it was new, and fresh, and innocent. Ambriel had stepped into a pile of rotting fruit with her vessel's bare foot, and decided not to come again if she could help it.

Due to the continued blessings of the sapphicnatural community, I thought about women SO much last year. I sent a LOT of anon prompts to @spntoxicfemslashevent (honestly if I counted those asks as fics it might have pushed my wordcount up by another thousand lmao) but one of them in particular I held on to was this one!

I've talked about the writing process for this one a little already with my process of developing small characters but I have more silly things to say about it - I used some of Becky's ranting dialogue to slip in some playful digs at spnblr/general fandom discourse:

"Not that there's anything wrong with girls - I - I was such a big fan of Jo! You know, after it was clear she wasn't going to be a threat to the brother's relationship."  "The Michael/Lucifer angel stuff was never really my bag, I thought it was better when the boys were doing thematically resonant creature-features" "I mean, Sam, Sam Winchester. It's the [fake ID] where he lists his sex as female and his name as Sam Vincente - which, obviously, the coding...a boy wants what a boy wants, and sometimes that's a man in leather pants."

There are few things I enjoy more in the world than making up fandom discourse. I hold in my brain the knowledge of how every kind of fan would respond to any situation, including if you're in the Apocalypse and the most annoying forum mod you've seen in your entire life won't shut the fuck up about her angel OC that she CLAIMS is from Carver Edlund's later notes as if THOSE are canon. I really enjoyed writing Becky in this one, fully embracing the cringe of extreme fangirlism and digging into the feelings behind it (isolation, a desire for guidance, safely imagined eroticism, guarding yourself from shame however you can). I should put her in more things!

When shall we live, if not now? Daphne Allen and Emmanuel!Cas Daphne Allen's new husband asks too many questions. She tries her absolute best to ignore the answers.

Look at how efficient and compelling that blurb is. Chef's kiss. This one is about shutting down curiosity about yourself because of fear of what you might find (the fact that you might enjoy being masc!!!). I really like this one. Mica is pretty much just some guy. He's not anything special when it comes to battling, he just studies Pokémon (and messes around with rocks on the side). He grew up in Paldea (specifically Cascarrafa), but moved to Hoenn when he was 15. While in Hoenn, he did a mixture of Pokémon research/geologic work up until the whole Kyogre thing, which happened when he was 32. Once all that went down, he moved back to Paldea in search of new opportunities and a quieter life. This blog takes place post Alpha Sapphire. Hoenn was was very damaged, and most people were forced to either leave or completely rebuild, especially those living on the coast and in low-lying regions. Feel free to ask Mica about anything regarding that! However, I cannot guarantee that he'll give a completely honest answer, depending on what's asked ;3 Adding on to that, the events that happened are by no means canon compliant !! I did change up a few things, so this blog will most likely not align with the canon of your own, Slightly related to that, this blog will have an oc x canon relationship in it. Clancy is one of those favorites. no- Clancy is THE favorite. the favorite OF the favorites. you could interpret this in a million different ways, how long has he had his eye on Clancy? why him in particular? I, honestly, don't have any specific answers to those questions that I consider better than any others. all I know is that Nico is COMPLETELY obsessed with him. unhealthily obsessed. he is deranged.

I too am happy for him, he doesn’t have to prove himself to anybody. He is a singer and entertainer. That is his life’s work. This is a pause in his life where we are privileged to keep up with him where we can.

He’s shown us how much he loves to eat AND loves to cook. How lovely has it been that we’ve been able to see him in action cooking several times, sharing recipes with us and cooking for him and Jimin in the Monuments documentary!

Like you I hope him, and all the members stay mentally, physically and emotionally well until they finish. Let’s continue to send nothing but love and positivity their way!

Huskposting Request Guidelines

Requests are currently ????? (I'll write whenever my brain lets me! Sorry if I miss you!)

I could probably make this more streamlined, but for now I just wanna get everything out of the way. I love writing about Husk from Hazbin Hotel, and I can write (almost) whatever sort of Huskpost you want to see from me, from sweet and fluffy to outright nasty! You can check my "irk huskposts"/"hazbin hotel husk x reader" tags to get a feel for what I do here.

I pretty much exclusively write for Husk. Of course I can include other characters as side characters, I love this whole cast, but Husk is the one my brain wants carnally right now.

Prompts don't need to be shippy! I don't mind doing angst, slice-of-life, headcanons; just give me an excuse to yell about Husk.

That said, I don't want to write any canon/canon ships with Husk for now, not even Huskerdust. I don't hate Huskerdust! I'm just a huge baby when it comes to shipping my F/Os with other canon characters when my obsession is new. Give me a year or two, and maybe some more canon. But until then, my relationship with Huskerdust will be nothing more than passive appreciation.

When it comes to Reader inserts, I'll do any gender and body type! I tend to default to GN!Reader and AFAB due to personal experience, but I'll write any identity, including trans readers. Everyone is welcome here! Husk is pansexual and gender-blind, of course he doesn't judge! I do concede that I don't possess a dick and any attempts at writing a reader with one might be inaccurate, but I'll do my best.

I'm fairly open to kinks and have no moral judgment toward anything in fiction. There may be a very small amount of kinks I won't write, and I do reserve the right to reject anything I don't feel comfortable writing, but do know that any rejections don't come with moral judgment. We're all bound by a desire to fuck an old undead cat, none of us has any right to judge anyone.

Hi, no worries! You don't sound rude at all, you just asked a simple question and it's fine to me. I'll try my best to answer this question.

So typing quirks aren't made for aesthetics. It is some sort of way like someone's motor way of typing!! Some people use it for fun, or some people use it for expressing their feelings or the way they talk. /nbr But for people who has learning disabilities, I add clear translations to not make anyone confused!! ^_^

If you think using typing quirks includes ableism, it is not. You are only ableist when you don't add translations after using typing quirks which means that you aren't helping disabled people by translating the message you wrote with a bunch of smashed up words mixed together. (Not targetted towards anyone, this is just my simple explanation.)

I am not a person who is good at explaining when it comes to certain topics like these, but I am hoping that this simple (?) answer makes sense to you and know more about the topic on typing quirks, please let me know if there are any grammatical mistakes so that I could change it! in the spirit of the writers' game (except its not actually a question so no presh) do you have any tips on getting integrated into fandom community? i have like 12 bajillion fic ideas bumping around in my head that i wanna gab to someone about but i dont know how i'd like.. get someone's attention without it being.. weird? or like manufactured... i'm reticent to post because so much attention spooks me Out of writing which is like, not the end goal lol

this is a great question!! i'll be honest with you, i'm not sure if i'm the best person to answer this, but i'll do my best.

for some context, i'm actually very introverted. i really struggle to make friends both online and in real life. while most of my meaningful friendships are fandom based, typically it's because a pretty extroverted person snapped me up and then i got comfy talking, not really from me doing the outreach first.

when it comes to writing and a writing community, i'm also pretty insulated. i would love to be friends with some of my favorite writers on here too, but honestly i just can never bring myself to reach out, and my adhd is really intense so i tend to miss messages/notifications/engagement when other people reach out to me.

all of that being said, if you're interested in creating a writing space for yourself in this fandom, i do have some advice, and maybe you'll be better at grabbing onto the potential friendships that do come from that, which is the part i struggle with.

to start, i'd recommend becoming an active participant in the reading community if you aren't already. i'd create a fandom blog for yourself here and/or on twitter and use that to just start engaging with fic you like - reblog stuff and add fun tags, compliment the authors you're loving, drop messages off anon from that account if that's something you're comfortable doing. just start getting your username and your pfp on people's pages more and more. (this is one of those reasons i'll never change my username or my pfp btw, people know this as me and they've known that for a long time so in a small way it's kind of my writer's brand)

then think about what you're writing or want to write. is it big multichaptered work? smutty oneshots? romantic imagines? list-style stuff / scenario stuff like "hyung line headcanons" etc? figure out what you feel compelled to write, not just ideas, and start to write them. write them for yourself even if they're "bad" or unpolished and just enjoy that process a little bit while you're engaging as a reader / casually making fandom connections.

once you feel like you might have ideas to share, i think it's completely fine to make a post asking if anyone would want to beta read or if anyone else would want to talk about fics/headcanons etc. if you really want someone to connect with before you ever post your fic, i think this is the best way. i personally don't love messages asking me if i would be willing to read or edit someone's fic because to be honest that's a huge undertaking and i always find i'm too critical / take it too seriously. i also think when it's done this way it kind of makes the relationship a little awkward overall.... some people might be okay with it and i might be overthinking it, but that's just how i feel in general. BUT if you find people by asking the community and people are reaching out to you, that's completely different imo and i've done that in the past in other fandoms.

then once you're ready to throw a hail mary and post something, whether it's beta read or not, i'd recommend taking some time to do the following:

consider the look of your post and the aesthetic. people are so much more likely to click on it if it's formatted well and has some kind of a header image. go look at what other people do, what you like, and what you want your fic 'look' to be.

edit, and edit again. i know it's exciting to want to post asap, but if you're nervous, read it again. in my opinion, fic that you post should be fic that you want to read. if you're struggling to read your own work because something is a little clunky or you find yourself skimming it...... someone else might feel the same

post it at the right time. you don't need to be a marketing major and try to like drive engagement, but if you post it at 3am on a sunday i promise you people will miss it, and then you'll be struggling with the feeling of why did no one like my fic that i spent hours on etc.

your first fics aren't going to get much attention. that is totally okay! keep going, keep trying, and over time you will find your audience.

reblog reblogs.... if you get a reblog of someone adding tons of tags / fun comments / a review of your work etc., reblog their reblog and thank them! answer questions! engage! opening that door in this way as a writer will help build a little community of your own.

i would say that over the last three years here i've gained a little community of my own. i have consistent readers, anons and mutuals i recognize, people that i look forward to engaging with every time i post something even if they don't realize it. that means SO much to me as a writer, but truly it took a long time to create that space for myself here. admittedly though, even with that being true, i really struggle with connection but that might not be apparent to people just following my blog. i guess this is all to say, comparison is the thief of joy. as you start to create your own space here, reader or writer, don't spend time looking at other people and other blogs and wishing you could have xyz too. focus on what you truly want, what makes you happy, and do it for the love of writing. the rest will surely follow in time. 💛

How would you recommend interacting with a writer. If a story wasn't to your taste, or left you unsatisfied. But you still want to encourage, the writer. And show gratitude for the free entertainment?

Hi anon!

The short answer is, a simple "thanks for the fic!" or "thanks for sharing!" or even a few emojis will often suffice. You really don't have to let the writer know what you didn't like. At the end of the day, they're not writing the fic for you, and obiously not every story is going to satisfy everyone the same way--otherwise we'd all be the same and that would be a horrendously boring world to live in.

The long answer is probably unecessary, but I like to procrastinate on my WIPs talk 😂

There's a format of commenting that goes a little like this: "i don't normally like [X ship, X trope, the way X acts in canon, etc...], but i love the way you do it!!" And honestly I myself have used that before--mostly for tropes, though possibly for some ships as well. And on the surface, that's reads as a compliment. Personally, when ppl leave me that sort of comment, I'll usually interpret it as a compliment too--unless they're full on bashing the thing I love (which sometimes happens with people criticizing canon). And I do think it's INTENDED as a compliment. (That's how I've meant it, when I used it, so I do try my best to also interpret others in good faith.)

But it can also read as "I don't like this thing that you really like and I felt the need to tell you that." Honestly, I didn't even realize it would come across that way until I saw someone else point it out. And then...yeah, I started to notice the fics I get it on more (A lot lot lot of my ladrien fics, lmao.)

So I'm at a weird cross roads where I try not to use that anymore--unless it's with someone I'm fairly sure will understand how I mean it?because sometimes you do have more of a rapport with certain ppl and they'll understand what you mean--but I also don't want to say it's 100% a bad thing to say. I really do understand the intent.

Anyways, my point in bringing that up is that you never don't know what seemingly innocent "this wasn't quite to my taste" comment is going to read as an insult. And so if you really DO want to encourage said writer, I'd recommend sticking to the positives.

Another big thing that's important to me personally is: don't lie.

People have a tendancy to...I don't want to say be disingenuous, but certainly to exaggerate at times on the internet. You see that in the SCREAMING CRYING EATING GLASS types comments. And those are USUALLY sincere in the way that the emotions they convey are sincere. We as a society understand they're not literally eating glass but that they're in agony because the angst in the fic was so good and they want more. But then--something I've noticed--that sort of lingo has a way of slipping into a default response of sorts. And sometimes that makes me question if people really mean it?

This second thing is probably more of a personal thing than a response to your question, but since it's something I've been thinking about lately I hope you don't mind that I brought it up too. I really don't want people to lie to me about my writing.

Maybe this is in part because I myself find it...difficult to be insincere with ppl, but I don't want false compliments--that's something I tell my friends too. If I write a trope or pairing you don't like? There's never any pressure to read it. I don't expect comments or kudos from anyone. And I'm not someone who in general believes people are insincere--that's not really fair to other people. But everyone has doubts at some point, and I feel like adding to that by straight up lying to make someone feel better just isn't the way to go? If you can't pick out a detail from the fic that you genuinely enjoyed, then maybe keep it to the simple "thanks for sharing!"

So, I guess the TLDR is: keep it short and sweet. keep it encouraging if that's really your goal. (and, if this ever happens to be in reference to something that I specifically have written? please don't feel like you HAVE to say anything at all)
