Hey, @ishadow246, thank you for bringing my vision to life, cause this is exactly what I feel sometimes.

Admittedly, I was a little nervous on WG!Star's design at first, cause I get that he's not exactly drawn like the other Starboys in the fandom when it comes to his facial features. (I thought that was a bad thing...) In fact he had a more anime style look before I changed it! 😅 (I even considered changing it again before my rewrite released)

Now I understand he's just a different kind of hot. 😂

I feel like generally coexisting in the same location as The Rotten is very trying. He doesn't actively chase anyone who falls into the Gutter, of course, but it is endless psychological pressure nonetheless. His powerful soul beckons, and the closer someone is to him the stronger it gets.

After all, people (that aren't just corpses) are in the Gutter for a reason... They were unwanted and thrown away by humanity. You have to choose to struggle instead of seeking his "embrace" that can end the pain, all the time. And it feels like something always knows why you're here. It is like telepathy.

I don't think Murata knows what he does for me when he draws characters showing their more unguarded, vulnerable moments. And I don't mean when they're undergoing a profound emotional experience. Just the mundane, everyday activities.

It's not easy to depict mundanity in a story: real estate is precious, and Everything Has To Mean Something. So Murata finding space both within and around the chapters to ground the characters as people despite their abilities is precious.

Something that comes to mind is Scott McCloud's comment in his excellent book 'Understanding Comics', where he notes that depicting a superhero going to the bathroom is funny as we don't see these characters as human and it breaks our immersion. In One-Punch Man, the characters may be incredible and in a fantastic setting, but ONE and Murata have pulled off their also being so human there's nothing remarkable about them eating, sleeping, going to the bathroom, or having a recycling schedule on the wall. It's not easy to do.

ONE does get mileage out of making superhumans doing ordinary things hilarious, but he does it by making the context funny. Sure, Sonic on the shitter is funny, but it's not funny because he's an impossible ninja having a shit as if he were human. We accept his humanity. It's why he's crapping his guts out that's hilarious: there's both the schadenfreude of seeing him hoisted by his own petard and the relief that because he's screwed up, he will stay human. Sure, Genos using his arm cannon to dry the dishes is funny, but not because he's a combat cyborg that probably costs the same as a fighter jet. He and Saitama ate. Of course the dishes need doing. It's that he's abusing a million-dollar piece of equipment to do something ordinary that's hilarious -- like an engineer abusing a high-powered laser to heat coffee [1].

Often, the context isn't funny for the sake of being funny. Genos cleaning the house? Not funny. Genos ignoring the sounds of battle outside because he can't bring himself to leave the house until he's cleaned up all traces of the previous night's party? Hilarious. However, it's not just funny: it's the setup for us seeing later the pots and bowls set out as the apartment is destroyed, all ready to start dinner as soon as Saitama comes back. He's prepared for a meal that neither will ever eat. We carry out our routines as if life will never change, even though we're aware it can be cut short at any time and in ways we cannot anticipate, and no amount of power or privilege changes that. In the meantime, we live.

Why do they go so far as to humanize the characters? Other than it being nice to see, it also allows the story to land points that otherwise couldn't work. Points such as everything takes time, effort, and attention and no one can do everything, but must needs choose, and these choices have consequences. That we need others to be human. That even the best relationships take work. That fulfilling yourself as a human being is a work in progress. That the idea of there being a 'thing' or 'state' that will make one happy is nonsense. That we can go too far. That we don't deserve second chances, but no one's counting.

Being human is complicated and frustrating and boring but oh so worth it. That's a big point that ONE wants to get across. And he can't do that if the very idea of a character needing the bathroom is hilarious.

[1] Obligatory health warning: do not fuck with lasers. A laser capable of warming your coffee in a useful time is both invisible and more likely to set you on fire than give you a warm beverage.

Momina's body was tense, teeth clenching as she sensed a horrible danger coming towards her. She didn't know what that was but she knew she had to leave.

"Leave! Leave! Leave!!"

A chorus of voices screamed at her with urgency. It wasn't just Momina's own senses informing her of the danger but their jinn friends as well.

"Please leave! It's dangerous! That thing will sell you destruction!"

Momina turned on her heel and began running down the darkened streets. She had been coming back from the library, she had just finished studying with her friends.

"It'll promise you anything you wish but at the cost of your soul!"

They continued, hoping to get Momina sprinting faster but to their astonishment, she instead stopped.

Her breath was heavy but her mind which was a fierce whirlwind of panic had slowed down, now calm.

'Anything I wish for...? Anything...anything?' Momina's mind immediately flashed to her family, her friends, her loved ones. All the troubles they had: money, love, health, school...

Momina, ignoring the rising voices of the jinns turned to face the creature that had kept up with her pace from the shadows.

Seeing her turn around to face it, it finally showed itself, jumping down in front of her. It's tail swished back and forth as it stared up at her curiously.

"Do you want to make a contract with me to become a magical girl? I can grant you any wish your heart desires!"

Momina swallowed hard, her breath finally settled. "A-anything...right?"

Kyubey's expression remained unchanged but it nodded, "mm! Anything. Just ask and it's yours."

Momina paused and thought to herself. 'I need to do this right...' a bead of sweat went down her forehead.

"Momina! Momina! Don't do it!"

She shook her head, her jinn friends were making it hard to think.

Suddenly it was utter silence. Momina couldn't hear them anymore. She sighed, a smile crossing her lips. Finally, there was peace. She continued to gaze at Kyubey with glowing orange eyes.

"I'd like...for my loved ones to be blessed for as long as they live."

Kyubey was silent for a long moment. "Done. Will you be a magical girl?"

Momina grinned, "of course!" She knelt in front of Kyubey. "Let's shake on it." She offered it her hand, and in return it placed it's paw on her palm.

"A deal is a deal."

After that, Kyubey explained to Momina what her role was. Momina gained the ability to purify and blind enemies with a powerful light. Momina has become an angelic soldier, her soul gem in the shape of a star, embedded in her chest.

Without fail Momina begins her work as a magical girl. The problem comes when, due to choosing to spend her wish on her loved ones instead of herself, her health is still bad and heavily affects her performance. She has to fight in quick bursts, pausing to take breaks. Luckily being a magical girl enhances her base strengths to begin with. She also uses her psychic ability to her advantage.

Kyubey finds her so strange...as it knows she knows exactly what her fate is...

Momina would have gladly continued fighting for Kyubey had it not crossed the line and tried to make her dear friends magical girls as well...for that, Momina hunts it down. It was that frenzied panic that led to her turning into a witch. She didn't notice or care that her soul gem has become dirty...so dirty.

Fun fact, Zakiya and Nasteexo-Amina would have never accepted this contract. Zakiya refuses to be made into a pawn and Nasteexo-Amina would have heeded the jinns' warning. Nothing would be worth sacrificing themselves.

Day 1 - Sodium Chloride Couple

twt made me think of this but we were really robbed of really good bathena angst of 4x13/14... like the first the fight and then bobby getting shot.. tbh how they did resolve the fight was slightly disappointing i mean it works but I wanted more i wanted a bigger conversation that went way deeper into why they were even distant and fighting in the first place and that's a whole thing

but now imagine more angst purposes they take longer to resolve their fight. they're preoccupied by eddie and figuring out the sniper case and they just avoid each other . then we flash towards the trap and bobby getting stuck and shot and athena helpless outside knowing that he could die in there and the last conversation they had was a fight and how their marriage is possibly failing... and that can't be how it ends bc even tho things are rough she still loves bobby and wants to be with him she can't do it without him. I feel like also gives her even stronger motivation to take over someone's gear and go into the fire for him. it makes this move and her saying she needs her partner have so much more impact and meaning (not that it didn't originally but) and on bobby's side he's possibly dying in this fire terribly injured knowing how bad he left things with athena, regretting the fight regretting hiding things like sponsoring Rachel and wishing so badly he could change things so it wouldn't end like this (something about bobby facing death and focusing on his regrets and what he could have done better)

and the relief of athena appearing in the flame to save him. they may not be In perfect place but she'll always come and save him she'll always be there for him. and then once they're out and safe and in the hospital there will be a real conversation, they'll talk in depth about athena's attack and the affects it had on them both. about their struggles with communication how its not communication they're used, they'll talk about bobby sponsoring rachel and more on why he hid it (I think theres more to it and then just trying to get back at athena so to speak) and they talk about what it means to them personally being partners being married... basically just more in depth and detail version of their canon conversation sorta but better and they actually talk about everything else
