Olá! Eu conheci Pretty Cure recentemente e queria saber qual temporada você me recomenda começar? Comecei agora e estou perdida. Obrigada <3
Olá!! Espero que esteja tudo bem do lado dai <3
Então
A franquia Precure é ENOOOORME, mas não é um bicho de sete cabeças não tá? Deixa eu explicar
Futari wa Precure - Futari wa Precure Max Heart (Primeira e Segunda temporada)
Yes! Precure 5 - Yes Precure 5 Go!Go (Quarta e Quinta temporada)

Ok this may just be me but I hate deconstructions. I feel like they are always mean spirited and try to be dark and edgy and thinks that every single person is an asshole because that’s “realistic” when no it’s not. This maybe because I like superhero stories and love it when the heroes overcome their struggles.
I can agree for the most part. Whenever I hear “okay but what if it was dArK--” I’m just okay, gonna stop you right there.

I swear, nothing bothers me more than people who want Miraculous Ladybug to literally just be Yandere Simulator(with Marinette as Ayano, Alya as Info-chan, Adrien as Taro, Chloe as Osana, Lila as Kizana, Kagami as Megami, and Luka as Budo). It just grinds my gears, especially because they're, once again, framing Marinette as a stalker, which just makes her look bad, AND pits all the girls against each other for Mr. Generic Harem Protagonist, once a-fucking-gain. Just go play the actual game, ok?
All I'm hearing is that now I have to ship Ayano and Budo and write a fic where the ghost girl uses fancy fantasy magic to merge her soul with Ayano and lets her actually have emotions, healing her from being a yandere while the ghost girl (in a way) gets to live a life she was cut short of, also allowing Ayano to be happy and go onto be friends with all the rivals.
Extremely convoluted but that’s the only way we get happy endings in this house.

I remember how, when writing Sailor Moon, Naoko Takeuchi refused to bow to older male writers wanted, say, for the girls to be stereotypical manga characters, with one being overweight, one being a stereotypical nerd, etc. But Naoko wanted each of the girls to be beautiful and feminine. While I don't like that they all share a body type, I admire how she didn't listen to grown men when writing for and about young girls. And I can't help but think about how Madoka is the antithesis of all that.
I can appreciate writers who put their foot down to stick to their values. There are limits of course, but yeah, a women writing women probably shouldn’t be listening to a man’s input. I’m sure good advice exists buuut...

What is your ranking of the seasons of the year from most to least favorite and why?
Summer - I work best in the warmth
Spring - Always brings images of flowers blooming to mind
Autumn - Things are getting cold and I don’t like it
Winter - It can go choke for all I care

Someone on TV Tropes actually said that the name Feminist Fantasy should be changed because "feminism excludes men the same way meninism excludes women" and actually had the nerve to link that to the "Not So Different" trope, as if women haven't been excluded throughout the history of almost every human society. Fortunately, someone responded to them in a way that technically amounted to "do your damn research" but I'm still facepalming so hard at TV Tropes' "what about the men" rhetoric.
I feel like I lost braincells reading this.

I feel like in fiction written by men there are only three flaws that female protagonists are allowed to have: clumsy, boy-crazy, or ashamed of their flat chests. I hate it.
Don’t forget, “having to listen to the men for how they’re supposed to feel.”

Jatp. Nominated. For. Seven. Emmys. SEVEN!!!! Miraculous could NEVER. Literally.
omg!! Congrats to Julie and the Phantoms!

WHAT ARE YOUR FLASHBACKS TO EVER AFTER HIGH?? I GOTTA KNOW? OMG?
Oh, I’ve seen basically the whole series, though the one I remember most is definitely Epic Winter. It was my favorite one though Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie so I’m biased.
I also like a lot of the “twists” and just--crazy concepts they rolled with, like with Red Riding Hood’s story and how Apple White gets woken up from her slumber.

You're gonna be happy to hear this...I just started watching Cardcaptor Sakura today, and holy shit not only do I love it, but I also love how freaking META it is! I know you said you're not all that knowledgeable about Magical Girl, but this show is AWARE that it's a Magical Girl show! From Tomoyo(the main reason this show is so meta, tbh) realizing Sakura is a Magical Girl and asking if she has a transformation pose, to designing outfits for her(more on that later) to videotaping her(aka literally making a Magical Girl anime out of her Magical Girl friend), it just has fun with itself and plays with Magical Girl tropes without making a mockery of them like all those "dark" male-aimed ones do(lookin' at you, Madoka Magica and Yuki Yuna!).
And not only is it hilarious and adorable(especially with Sakura's crush on Yukito, Tomoyo's crush on Sakura, and Touya picking on Sakura, but playfully), but I love how it's riddled with girl power. While watching some of the first episodes I was looking forward to seeing Syaoran(partly because I love male Tsunderes and partly because I can't pronounce his name), and was surprised that he wasn't in the first few episodes, but more importantly I was so happy to see a show that treats its female characters with respect and shows women unironically receiving support from other women and being shown possessing power and authority.
I love Sakura and Tomoyo's friendship even if I hate the trope of "Lesbian Never Gets The Girl"(not that I think she's entitled to Sakura's affections or anything, but still.) and watching her support Sakura in her magic endeavors without being jealous or vindictive, I love that they're allowed to be independent and smart but that the show doesn't forget that they're kids, instead of making them like Manon and Chris, and I love that the show passes the Bechdel test in pretty much the first or second episode, and that pretty much every important and unimportant character we meet that's not Sakura's family members, Kero, or Yukito(plus maaaayyybe the Shadow Clow Card) are female.
Even little things, like all FOUR of Tomoyo's bodyguards in the second episode being female without there being a "reason" or the show making a big deal of it(either in a "yay girl power!" way or a "what but women can't x" way or an objectifying way) fills me with insurmountable joy. Also, I love that the show follows the Magical Girl trend of pretty much admitting that femininity is power, since frilly dresses are stated to be the most "fitting" thing for a Cardcaptor to wear, as without it, they might not be mentally up to the task, and this is an unironic truth rather than a joke(although Sakura is shown to be embarrassed, but it's much more likely that she's simply not used to that kind of gear due to not being rich as Tomoyo is.) or a gag.
I just thought I should tell you this because I know you like Cardcaptor Sakura, and with the crappy episodes that just came out of this show, I think you deserve to read an ask that's about a GENUINE girl power Magical Girl show, instead of yet more Miraculous Ladybug salt or Madoka Magica hate(not that there's anything wrong with either of those two, but it just gets grating after a while.). Overall, I'm looking forward to watching this show, since I've been looking for a Magical Girl show to watch nowadays(I've been meaning to watch Star Twinkle Precure but I can't find the third episode and all of Cardcaptor Sakura is on YouTube now, so.). So excited!
Hey, I’m glad that you’re having fun with it!
Though, just a warning, you might wanna steer clear of the Clear Card arc. It’s a sequel to the original series made waaaay after the original (think the equivalent of Yashahime for Inuyasha, though continuing with the original characters) but omg I hated it.
Anonymous asked:
With the crappy Season 4 episodes that just came out I'm glad I got into Cardcaptor Sakura when I did. Who needs "Marinette needs to make a mistake every episode and learn something from it" when you can have genuine girl power and sweetness incarnate?
Alya could never compete with Tomoyo, I’m just sayin’.

Your comment about white men feeling "disenfranchised" because more shows are about black people and/or women(I say and/or because the two aren't mutually exclusive.), as if there aren't a million other things they could be watching instead is so true! It reminds me of how I was talking to someone recently about the new generation of MLP, in which I stated that we didn't need a male mane pony(spoiler alert: they have one, sadly.), and he claimed that it would be beneficial since many shows aimed at boys at least try to include at least one main girl, and that it would be good for G5 of MLP to have at least one strong male lead so that boys could have a role model and know that the show isn't "girly".
Okay, so far, so good, but this I could chalk up to just unconscious internalized misogyny, especially since he didn't say it in any sort of "way". So I respectfully told him that the scale regarding representation is already not equal and that boys can look up to girls and that a show being girly is not a bad thing and all that stuff that you already know about. Then he responded claiming some stuff about how he keeps trying to pitch stories about straight white male characters and how nobody is accepting his offers and so this means that straight white men are underrepresented compared to everyone else. He even explicitly said, and I quote "White people are actually critically underrepresented in media right now. Especially boys."; I swear to the Goddess above.
At this point I was officially upset as a black girl, to hear this white(and presumably adult) man telling me that he was underrepresented in media compared to me, even saying that the media execs are practicing "quotas and tokenization"(and yes, he repeatedly used those terms for any instance of representation, even when I asked him politely to stop.) by replacing women with men or white people with pocs and are making white men look like incompetent doofuses.
He also kept saying stuff about how shows are always shoehorning people of color in where they don't belong by casting them in settings such as Shakespeare and medieval times when "realistically" there were no people of color during those time periods(which is obviously not true, it's just not what the history books show us.), and made a really insensitive comment about how black children in the USA today don't know the significance of having the first black president because the media supposedly already shows them black people in various professions(despite also claiming he couldn't speak to the "black experience" and yet here he is whitesplaining that shit.).
It got to the point where he was seriously and unironically using the word "blackwashing". When I pointed out to him that white men aren't underrepresented and that it's just his self-centered ego telling him that they are, that the word "blackwashing" isn't a thing, and that mis/underrepresentation in media DOES affect black kids negatively(even citing myself as an example) he went on to claim that I was being tone-deaf and that "blackwashing" is just as bad as whitewashing, and that making Ariel black is just as bad as making Jasmine white.
At this point I had to bang my head on the table and explain to him the difference; his ass still wouldn't get it. Eventually he started saying some really skeevy and hypocritical shite that white men say all the time when whining about how "oppressed and underrepresented" they are: that black people and/or women
(it looks like there might be an ask missing here, in which case, sorry if Tubmlr ate it!)
avor of supporting the commonly believed LIE that "women and/or minority groups don't have as much history worth learning about, so there's no point in focusing on them." He also kept using patronizing, condescending, mansplaining language such as "let me explain it to you" or "you still don't get it do you?", and when he said women had nothing to contribute to society because "oppression" he even had the nerve to tack on "welcome to the unequal society" as if I hadn't been lecturing him about just that.
Because obviously only white men did anything worthwhile or important in history. At this point, I had to block him. I couldn't take it anymore and this was on an MLP site of all places(although I'm probably just as guilty of that part, but at least I wasn't an ass!). I just can't stand white men who "want to be oppressed so bad" but still want to claim that their achievements are more important and deserve to be more prominent. Honestly, so many white men are so fragile the second they're not in the spotlight. I can't help but think that despite all the privilege afforded to their class being a white man sounds like the worst thing ever.
“he claimed that it would be beneficial since many shows aimed at boys at least try to include at least one main girl, and that it would be good for G5 of MLP to have at least one strong male lead so that boys could have a role model and know that the show isn't "girly". “
I might be looking too deep into that but I don’t like the idea of, “Well WE squeezed in a girl and therefore YOUR SHOWS--” like it’s some sort of matter of “fairness” or that boys’ shows aren’t putting in girls out of a genuine like for them but because they “need” one or it’s some sort of obligation.
Also, we need to stop this idea that boys can’t look up to female characters and vice versa for girls. You already said it but yeah.
And yeah, I hear "quotas and tokenization" and I officially tune out of whatever the person is saying, lol. White men are critically underrepresented???? Newsflash, maybe it’s just because others are being represented more??
Just the whole thing about whites being “underrepresented” boggles my mind. White people don’t have some sort of special ability or skill that other races can’t do themselves unless you count the “superpower” of white privilege.
Like, oh my god, all that “whitesplaining” and having to read the word “blackwashing” was physically painful. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I don’t know how they got hold of the technology to communicate with you from whatever time period their from, presumably the Stone Age.
Don’t even blame you for blocking them. There’s just a level of absolute... blindness? Arrogance??? That comes with the territory with them sometimes, I swear. You had every right to be upset; other races come to ask for equality and fair representation and suddenly you have these white men (not all obviously but damn) coming by and crying that they’re being oPpReSsEd. U_U
Like, honestly, my father in particular is absolutely that kind of person so I’ve heard that kind of stuff before. it’s all gross.
On a slightly unrelated note (trying to end this with some positivity), I hadn’t even heard about a fifth generation of MLP until I read this, and just wanted to let you know that I really hope you have a really good time with it! Hopefully the male character isn’t... well, you know.

Still not over episode 42 and how good and also kinda refreshing it was.
Like Daruizen very clearly has one of those designs and prominence among his fellow generals that instantly from the first opening seems to indicate he’ll be That villain that gets redeemed and switches sides and soft-shipped with the main cure or at the very least is revealed to be tragic and redeemed in death as another victim of the villain, but nah.
He doesn’t, and was never going to. If he ever was in some draft of the show they scrapped due to COVID like some folks seem adamant on believing it’s only the result imo of the writers getting a chance to sit down and think “but could he realistically be redeemed without it being just an expected story beat?” and the answer being no.
In fact in hindsight he’s the worst of the generals. Guaiwaru had ambitions to become the new king of the byo-gens and run things his way so it makes sense what he’s doing. Shindoine is genuinely in love with king byo-gen and his biggest enabler so it makes sense what she’s doing. Daruizen? He’s there because why not. He has the least motivation of all the villains, in a way is the most shallow because despite his desire to remain sapient he only uses it to do exactly what he would do otherwise, just with the knowledge that it’s his choice to do so. Daruizen’s motivation is essentially he wants to make sure his evil acts are completely willing on his part.
All three generals this seasons ended up actually getting evenly fleshed out despite people’s focus on Daruizen simply because his story was more directly tied to Cure Grace, actually, and all three represent very toxic people. Guaiwaru is your classic ambition villain who wants to be the leader but is just not cut out for it and ends up being a bad boss, even int he eyes of the villains, and no idea on how to actually lead as he basically just keeps doing what he did before but more because he’s more powerful. He isn’t even that effective as the girls have no trouble once they actually can confront him. Shindoine is obviously a toxic enabler who supports an evil person’s actions and is ok with being used, and clearly expects others to be okay with doing the same.
Daruizen is literally just a leech. He barely does anything, he only does his work when he feels like it, and is generally just a horrible person. Daruizen, if he were a real person, would be the kind of person who introduces himself with his IQ score and talk about how he’s a “realist” and misanthropist, especially with the way he talks to Grace. The only thing that excites him is in fact being a dick and he liked the cures and Cure Grace in particular specifically because he could get under their skin and demean them. He’s someone who only ever contributes negatively and tries to beat other people down because he’s miserable and the only thing that makes him happy is making other people feel as miserable as him.
And he never once shows remorse or willingness to change, right up to the end where he gaslights Grace to make her think she’s selfish for being scared of him and not wanting to help him after everything he’s done. Throughout the whole show she constantly asks him “why are you doing this?” and his answer NEVER changes, and he even starts to get angry that she doesn’t see why but he can’t really give a real answer other than “it’s what I do/why not?” Finding out he was born from Grace’s illness and the pain he caused her never once makes him paused, the only emotion he seems to show is happiness that he caused her so much trauma.
The ONLY regret he ever expresses is when he realizes his behaviour and decisions have screwed him over. He finally gets a taste of his own pessimism and hatred in the people he deemed worthy of his company due to sharing those traits- whom he also frequently treated as lesser for not being as smart as him and having their own personal ambitions they put effort into- when they showed their willingness to treat him exactly the same way they’ve treated everyone else. Basically, he realized he isn’t an exception or special in any way, he’s just another general.
He never expresses regret for his actions or his thinking in any other way other than it bit him in the butt, and even then he doesn’t let go of them. He just wants to hide away at the expense of someone else without any sacrifice on his own part, until his problem goes away. When he doesn’t get his way he literally throws a temper tantrum and tries to beat up Grace while telling her its her fault for denying him. and he STILL doesn’t have any real answers for her, when she gives him a chance to convince her and lays out the issues she has. He never had an answer, he only thought of himself and he thought himself superior for doing so and thus his right to take advantage of the inferior folks who are obviously too stupid to realize helping people is pointless, even while trying to rely on it.
We’ve all met that exact type of person, especially on the internet or perhaps a teenager going through that sort of phase where they think they’re so much smarter than their peers so they don’t have to do anything but everyone should do everything for them.
And like literally every other villain in precure he’s given a chance to redeem himself, they give him several in fact. Daruizen is straight up just a villain who winds up deciding not to take it. He acts like he wants to to save his own skin but he never has any real intent of being redeemed. Despite physically evolving Daruizen is someone who is wilfully static and nothing anyone does reaches him.
Honestly all the generals are like that, none of them can find it in themselves to let go of their flaws and grow as people rather than as byo-gen. Despite their sapience none of them ever actually grow into fully fleshed out people, they all cling to their flaws as their core identities.
It’s not surprising that unlike other seasons’ generals who wind up figuring out their own villainous way to work together by watching the cures, this season’s generals rarely worked together and the few times they did being used to cement their opinion that they can’t, and in the end stabbed each other in the back one after the other. Their combined power only comes together when King Byo-gen absorbs them.
In the end the message send by ALL of the byo-gen generals was “sometimes no matter what you do, some people are just toxic and are not asking for your help.” And in Daruizen’s case, it is also “You don’t have to sacrifice yourself for their sake when you know it won’t do anything but hurt you and enable them.” Daruizen never met anyone half way, and he never asked for help to be a better person, only to dodge the consequences of his actions. When asked if he would still be the way he was after the help he didn’t reply, because the answer would be yes and they both knew it.
All the generals somewhat subverted the expectations of the stock character they were built from tbh; the ambitious but stupid Guaiwaru actually went through with and briefly succeeded in becoming the big bad, Shindoine’s value as a loyal minion was seen by the villain despite her also suggesting the act that in any other similar character would be the thing that made them realize they were being used, and Daruizen never let himself be redeemed, all of which cement each of them as legitimate complete villains that weren’t changing. None of the generals were willing to change because none of them saw what they did as a problem, they just saw themselves as superior and it to be their right to treat other people poorly. Daruizen was no different from the other two, and unlike them he didn’t even have a reason, he simply decided he was too smart to be good.

Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star 24-37
Tumblr media
Are we on a new moon cycle already? I'm feeling the wind a little different for some reason.
Starting its second half, Splash Star finally got more bold to step further away from the original series. It still has it's similarities, at this point I believe they'll never be completely different, but I do believe they're unique enough to shine on its own and be its own thing. I know I sound repetitive mentioning this thing all the time, but it's because I like seeing this journey of they slowly finding their own identity which I think it's very important seeing that this is the first series without Nagisa and Honoka.
But enough of comparisons, this is a review of Splash Star and not a post to compare both seasons.
Tumblr media
I gotta say this third quarter felt a little disappointing, but to their defense, this is something I feel with all precure seasons so it's not much of the show's own fault but the structure of being a year-long show. But even with this disappointment, I feel like I enjoyed this portion a lot more than I enjoyed this same period of time in the most three recent seasons that aired. And I think part of that is because they were able to spread out important plot points, for example the mid-season upgrade came in episode 30 and not right after the new ark began. Another thing that helped a lot during this part was the characters, the cast we already knew was great and the new additions were full of life and personality so even when nothing interesting was happening it was still lots of fun to watch.
Tumblr media
Probably the biggest thing that happened here was the introduction of two "new" Cures that brought something new to the table and opened new doors for different things, other dynamics, and just a good change of pace to not make us feel like we've stagnated a whole lot. If there was a point I disliked is that the gloominess for Michiru and Kaoru didn't last long, I know this is a show for kids and more often than not they want to be positive so this wouldn't last all that long anyway, but at least the reveal that Kaoru and Michiru are still alive and they're just being held captive should've happened maybe when they got the new forms or when they defeated one of the generals. But this isn't such a big problem, it just could've been better.
Tumblr media
Saki and Mai continue to be very fun, I enjoy watching them and I love that they're still keeping the focus very well balanced between these two. Though I feel like they haven't changed all that much, I thought that after losing Kaoru and Michiru they would grow a little, maybe change a few aspects of their characters, and while we had a deeply emotional moment during episode 24 I feel like very little of that remained with them, and this is pretty much why I wish the reveal had happened a little later. Though I still enjoy them as characters, I wish Saki's crush on Mai's brother had been dropped already because it's pretty obvious this won't go anywhere, but since it's not something that is used a lot it doesn't bother me as much.
Tumblr media
The Fairy team has gotten bigger with Moop and Fuup joining the crew and I really like them. I was afraid we would have another Pollun & Lullun situation, but no! They're very different, they're very funny, I love that they're basically children raised by TV and they keep reproducing things they watch on the screen, they were definitely a great addition to the cast. But I have a problem with aesthetics here, not of the characters themselves but the toys they've become. XD Like, what is Flappy and Choppy new item forms supposed to be? You know, I appreciate stepping away from making your fairies cellphones, but really, what are they??? Also who the hell thought a toy PC (not even a laptop!) was a good idea to put your fairies in and grant the Cures new weapons? This is probably one of the most unpractical things EVER!
Tumblr media
Going to our "new" Cures, I like their designs just fine. My question is, was it really necessary to give them new Cure names? Because they don't look all that different, especially Windy, and they can change to which form they want to transform into so shouldn't these be called just for changes? I don't know, I think if they wanted to make them really assume new Cure identities they should've made their design way more different, and I reiterate, ESPECIALLY in Windy's case that not only look very similar to Egret but also has basically the same powers. With that being said, I absolutely love their new attack in this form, I love how their stream become two comets and the background is basically a galaxy, I don't know how I've missed this detail in all of the "All Precure Attacks" compilations I've seen on YouTube, honestly this is such a step up from both Twin Stream Splash and Spiral Heart Splash (that is the new attack they got for their original forms), it is just awesome.
Tumblr media
I don't think I've mentioned them before, but in this portion, we got a very nice focus on their classmates and it was pretty fun, for some reason, I started to like Yuuko a lot and I can't pinpoint why but I root for her to be with Kenta by the end? Don't ask me for explanations because I don't have them. Maybe this was my subconscious finding a way to become bearable for me to watch Kenta because I absolutely hate him and the show gives him a lot of filler episodes. Whatever the reason may be, the side characters like their teacher, or Saki's senpai in the softball club, were pretty good.
Tumblr media
Now, the real stars are the villains, that after a very inexpressive character, blessed us with two amazing new generals. To begin, I like that they really saved the best for last and are using their more powerful generals, and even with the cure's new powers they're still pretty hard to defeat on their own, I think it's very important to keep the power level balanced so the show doesn't become boring, we also got more elaborated fights because of this and I can't stress enough how much I appreciate this.
MS. SHITATAARE IS AWESOME! She's beautiful, she's funny, she's a master disguise, and she's powerful as hell, I absolutely love her and her presence here made everything way much more fun. She's a real queen, if I did drag I'd want my drag to look like that because her aesthetics are on point, she's flawless, she's fierce, she makes me go "yas qween, work mama". And her costumes to blend in with civilians? OMG, I loved that so much, especially because whenever Goohyan went to check on her he would also put on a costume and it was just a joy, I wish our time with her was longer. Speaking of Goohyan I feel like he became more of a comedic character, but he's still very threatening, and I liked that we could see him in action for the first time. Kintolesky is the newest villain, and he's pretty great as well. Like Shitataare he also blends in with the people from the Land of Greenery and I think this is what adds so much to his character, I also like that he's not just an evil general that only thinks on the evil, I feel like if it was on another situation he could easily be a regular customer on Pan Paka Pan and create some sort of bond with Saki's family for example. The dude is also OP as hell and I love that about it, people like to talk about doing the Saitama training routine, I wanna see someone trying the Kintolesky training routine. XD
Tumblr media
And this is pretty much it for now, do you have any thoughts? Please let me know in the comments down below. I'm finally up to schedule with the precure reviews and I'm very happy, I hope I won't miss it next week for Splash Star finale's and mess up my planning all again. XD In any case, thank you so much for reading and I'll talk to you all later. Bye-bye~

Precure Day 150

Ah, man, what a good episode. We learn a bit more about Nozmi and Rin’s bond, about Coco’s past, and about the villains. Plus there’s some great character beats. It’s still kind of a dense episode like last time but since it’s not introducing everything there’s some room to enjoy the moment. Let’s start!
The Plot
Nozomi can’t wait to tell Rin about becoming a superhero but Rin thinks she’s just playing around and is a little concerned at how spacey she’s being. Nozomi continues to insist that she’s telling the truth as they wait for class when Coco, in his human form, walks in, introduces himself as Kokoda Kouji, and announces he’ll be their homeroom teacher for a while.
Tumblr media
(Notably, his family name basically amounts to “It’s Coco”, or you can derive “Coco” from the first syllable of each name)
After class, Nozomi drags him outside, and he explains that he wanted to stay close to her for the sake of Precure. Rin overhears this and asks what’s going on, so Coco explains to both of them about his homeland which has been devastated by the Nightmare Corporation, and how he needs the Dream Collet to restore it. Rin is understandably skeptical, but after Coco accidentally transforms back into his true form in front of her, she begins to believe his story. Nozomi asks her to become a Precure with her but Rin declines.
Tumblr media
At the same time as this is happening, we get to see Nightmare headquarters for the first time: a giant, spooky skyscraper. Girinma announces to his boss that he’s found the Dream Collet but it slipped through his hands. The boss, Bunbee, mocks him and tells him that he needs to find the Collet for the sake of their boss, Despariah.
Back in the classroom, Komachi and Karen come looking for Nozomi to ask her what happened in the library the other day, but Rin tells them she isn’t around. Later Rin flashes back to a time when she and Nozomi were young children, and Nozomi got hurt. Her worry is that Nozomi is impulsive and will hurt herself without Rin’s help. Nozomi also recounts the event to Coco, explaining that with Rin’s help she was able to forget the pain and keep moving forward. Coco segues this into an explanation that his best friend is trapped in the Dream Collet, and they need all 5 Precures gathered to release him, as well as to gather all 55 Pinkies to make a wish and restore the Palmier Kingdom. A Pinky happens to show up right there, but Girinma has been antagonizing Rin, chasing her to where the pair are, and Rin begs Nozomi to stay out of this Precure business, it’s too dangerous and she’ll get more than just hurt. Nozomi, however, is confident now, and tells Rin to watch her as she fights for Coco’s dream. She transforms into Cure Dream and begins to fight Girinma,
At the same time, Urara is sitting on a bench, practicing her lines: “I don’t want to put my friend in danger.” At that moment, a red butterfly flies past her, and her curiosity gets the better of her, so she follows it.
On the battlefield, Girinma has turned a lamppost into a Kowaina and uses it to grab Dream while taunting Rin for being scared, as he says that this is what happens to the fearless. Rin flashes back to her childhood again, this time she and Nozomi were walking down the street at night when a large bird flew in front of them and spooked Rin. Nozomi wishes the fear away and helps Rin stand up and keep walking. Rin says that of course she’s scared of the monsters, but what she’s most afraid of is losing Nozomi, her best friend, and she wants to do anything to help her now! At that moment, the butterfly appears and lands on Rin’s wrist, transforming into another Pinky Catch and allowing Rin to transform into Cure Rouge! Rouge battles Girinma, insisting that she and Nozomi have always been together, and will be together forever, and then launches her special attack at him: Precure Rouge Fire. This takes the form of a butterfly trailing a rope of fire, and it knocks Girinma into the Kowaina, freeing Nozomi and allowing her to use her finisher to destroy it.
Girinma retreats, the girls reconcile, and Rin says being Precure was too dangerous to let Nozomi do it alone. The Pinky is still around and Coco instructs Nozomi in how to catch it in great detail.

As the two girls and Coco celebrate their victory, we see that Urara was spying on them from behind some bushes, and she asks out loud to herself “What’s a ‘Precure’?” DUN DUN DUN.
The Analysis
Rin is my favorite character in Yes 5, which is why she’s my avatar while I work through this series. This episode really demonstrates what I like about her: she’s very down-to-earth, kind of snarky, and gives Nozomi a lot of crap, but it’s because she truly cares about her and Nozomi isn’t exactly a clear thinker. She worries about her friend, and worries that she’s overstepped herself. Rin was surprised to see how Nozomi had matured without her realizing it, because she met Coco and found something to work towards, but she was still getting into trouble, so when Rin saw the extent of the danger she was in, she couldn’t do anything but to save her friend. Remember this down the road.
This is our first proper introduction to the Nightmare Corporation in their natural setting. Unlike the ANCIENT EVIL of the last three seasons, Nightmare is just a business, and their business model includes opportunities for advancement and presumably higher pay. Instead of being destroyed, failure means termination. Their secret base isn’t a cave in an alternate dimension, it’s a conference room in an office building, and the board is made of a bunch of people with Kowaina masks on.
Tumblr media
Since the major theme presented so far is finding and chasing your dreams, having an oppressive corporation as the villain faction makes an interesting foil and a very interesting commentary on Japanese society, where conformity is everything and corporate employees are often expected to work brutally long hours at the detriment of their health.
We get to see just how much of a dreamer Nozomi really is in this episode. As soon as Coco says he wanted to watch over her at school, she blushes and assumes he means he wants to date her, which she’s certainly amenable to. Then, in a gag that results in him falling on top of her in a compromising position, she blushes deeply before pushing him off and declaring that she has a very specific plan for her first kiss: under a Christmas tree with her boyfriend. (remember this!)
Tumblr media
Another good gag is that Urara has a penchant for reading scripts that tie in quite nicely to whatever is happening at that time. In episode 1 she reads “You have to find your own path yourself!” right as Nozomi is running by wondering what she should do with her life, and in this episode she says “I don’t want to put my friend in danger” at precisely the moment Rin is thinking that about Nozomi. I don’t remember this gag from my previous viewings of the show so I’ll be eager to see how frequently it happens.
Speaking of her, I really like how they keep the other cures-to-be involved in the show before they actually get to transform. Urara is usually sitting alone, practicing her lines when someone or something comes along that grabs her attention. This is how she wound up spying on Nozomi and Rin’s fight, and will play into her becoming a cure. Komachi and Karen are also fun. They were baffled by the magically restoring library the previous day and want to ask Nozomi for an explanation. Their slightly different reactions betray their personalities: Karen is concerned about the wellbeing of the school and students with unexplained phenomena occurring, while Komachi views supernatural events as an exciting change of pace. Karen calls her “curious” for that, but Komachi says she prefers the term “inquisitive”. She’s similar to Honoka in that regard. Anyway, since it’s still a few episodes before either of them gets to transform, I’m glad that the writers thought up a natural way to have them around and incorporate them into the story, which makes it more natural when they do finally get to go. There have been shows that basically introduced the new cure the same week as her first transformation, not counting pinks for obvious reasons, so going back and seeing a show where they laid the groundwork is retroactively refreshing.
It’s interesting to me that despite being nearly 20 years old the first time I watched Yes 5, I didn’t really recognize how blatant the product placement was. The Dream Collet is clearly a toy, although unlike some artifacts from the previous seasons it at least looks like it could reasonably be a sacred artifact from a mystical civilization. The Pinky Catches are fairly small toys compared to the phones of the last three shows, being essentially large digital watches, or wrist-mounted v-pets. I always thought the fact that you have to open the glass cover to transform was a little weird but it’s not the end of the world. What really gets me, in the sense of “how did I not realize they were peddling toys”, is the bit at the end where Coco gives Nozomi a very detailed lesson on how to catch a Pinky, which for all intents and purposes is just opening the lid to the watch, shaking her wrist around, and then closing the lid. I assume there were some interactive elements in the toy where you could play with the captured Pinky but I don’t really know. Within the show, opening the lid gives Coco an instrument to lure the Pinky over to the Precure catching it. For Nozomi, this episode, it’s a bell. I don’t remember if it changes by cure or by Pinky or what so we’ll find out together.
Catching 55 Pinkies constitutes our Macguffin quest of the year, but since there are so many of them, each individual one isn’t a major event like the Prism Stones, Heartiels, or getting seven Miracle Drops and I’m pretty sure a lot of them get caught offscreen after a while. So far they’ve done a good job of not making it seem like the Pinkies are the be-all end-all of the plot.
I would be remiss if I neglected to mention that Rin’s seiyuu is Takeuchi Junko, who notably voiced Kenta in Splash Star immediately preceding this, but is probably most notable for being the voice of Naruto. Rin’s voice is a little higher pitched than in those other roles, which I assume is closer to Takeuchi’s natural speaking voice.
Additionally, Girinma is voiced by legendary seiyuu Nobuyuki Hiyama. His list of credits is extraordinarily long but he’s recognizable for his high-pitched voice. Notable other parts include Freezen in the second Max Heart film, Viral in Gurren Lagann, and Ikkaku in Bleach. Something I like about Girinma that I almost forgot to discuss is how he sounds very sly and confident when speaking to the girls, but pitiful when facing Bunbee. He stammers a lot in the office because he’s afraid. Also, his name is derived from kamakiri, the word for a praying mantis. Now you know!
Also there was a funny Kamen Rider reference near the beginning and that pleases my toku-loving heart.

I do want to talk about the music, and the clothes: both school uniforms and Precure outfits, but I will save those for a later post. Next time, things are going to get lively and lemon-scented as Urara takes center stage. Look forward to it!

Zi-O 21; both raw AND subbed~!
Advance Warning: I have never seen Ryuki, and it’s probably going to show. A lot, if only because I have no connection to whoever the Guest Characters are, and what any issues they bring in could mean. I’ve seen Marcosatsu’s History Of Ryuki though, so that should help a little. (three links, because he wound up doing it in three parts)
Starting off with watching the Raw!
BlackWoz’s Storytime Vault doesn’t have much to offer, aside from a worrying angle at the end.
I’m impressed by Uhr’s control with reversing the damage he’s doing to that mirror. Of course, he’s paying almost zero attention to Schwartz in the process, but there’s a method to his being a little brat this time.
He’s trying to get the attention of some guy in Ryuki’s mirror world.
Sounds like his idea is “So, my new candidate? He’s from another world. Remember how that Tsukasa guy traveled? It’s kinda like that, but not.”
(What was going on in Ryuki?! Also, how many endings is this going to make for that season? Because I seem to remember hearing that there’s like, five? At least?)
I like the touch with Another Ryuga’s name and year – they’re backwards, like you’d see in a mirror.
Sougo’s DEFINITELY using Gun Mode a lot more recently. I like it’s finisher with Double, though – it’s basically a smaller scale version of the CycloneTrigger Memory Break. … What was that one called? Ah, there it is. Trigger Aerobuster.
Names are important. I’m doing my best to get them right.
But it’s basically that, with purple shots in the center of the wind bursts.
… of course, it gets reflected right back at them, because MIRRORS, but still. Points for fighting at a distance, especially with that dragon arm – that was doing some damage, it looked like.
Geiz’s Drive armor is back! (I’ve missed the shift cars, so it’s nice to at least see Max Flare, Funky Spike, and Midnight Shadow’s tires again.)
But again, mirrors.
Tsukuyomi: So, you lost him?
Sougo: Well, yes, but also we had to help the injured construction worker.
Geiz: And everything got sent back at us, so…
blah blah, ‘whats the deal with the time jackers’ blah…
“What IS this Day of Oma you mentioned, anyway?” Good question, bud.
“Well, in our history, it’s the day that Oma Zi-O took over the world.” Geiz, I get that you’re upset. But. Um. What did you just do to that chessboard?
As far as I know, you’re not able to cause shockwaves. Not just by symbolically slamming a chess piece down. ...I don’t know anything about chess, but I’m assuming that piece is the Black King. Wiping out all of his opposition in one strike… along with all of his allies.
Sougo retaliates with “And the one WhiteWoz is from, says that you stopped that from happening.” He uses the White Knight to knock down the Black King, leaving the Knight alone on the board.
And then we have the Time Jackers, trying to get someone else altogether in charge. Black Bishop takes out the White Knight. The Time Jackers are from the same timeline as Tsukuyomi and Geiz, after all.
That day is when the world’s future is decided… ooh, ominous.
… drat, have to skip the next bit of exposition, but while they’re outside talking about… victims? I think?
I hear that same sound that heralded Geiz’s Time Mazine arriving back in Episode one.
Okay, so the victims are all connected to the magazine/journal/website from Ryuki? Makes sense.
Oh man, Shinji’s already dead?! Welp, that’s it, arc over, time to go home. (dusts off hands)
Hm. He covered up all the reflective surfaces – which would include windows and vents. Because Mirror World.
Of course, that poses a problem when you use a gas heater.
Okay, so at this point, while I was watching, Over-Time posted their subs. So I just got the script, went back to the beginning, and started over.
Well, at least BlackWoz is going along with the nicknames for now. I guess he understands the need for the distinction.
Hm. Schwartz seems to think that Geiz is going to be trying for the throne on the Day of Oma. But, sir, have you met this kid? Yes, yes you have, we’ve seen you interact with him. There is nearly no way that Geiz would ever want to be in charge.
...I say nearly, because time travel and predestination and all of that jazz. WhiteWoz is screwing with the kids head.
HUH. Uhr’s logic isn’t even “it’s kinda like that Decade guy”, he was specifically told about the Mirror World by Tsukasa. (insert a certain 10-year-old meme here.)
And what’s even more interesting than that… is that Schwartz didn’t know about the Mirror World.
And we’ve already seen that Schwartz can go to other timelines, as per when he created the Another Shinobi Watch.
Hm, looks like we’re in for another variation of ‘not the Another Rider you think he is’, aren’t we? Another Ryuga has the last portion of his name covered by what appear to be burnmarks. Much like how Another OOO’s year was cracked, so it could appear to be 2016 while actually being 2010.
Oh dear GOD they’ve been fighting Another Ryuga for a WEEK. He just keeps showing up and disappearing. (Because mirrors, not that they know that.)
“Why do they keep getting harder to fight?” Well, Sougo, it’s probably largely because we’re about out of Phase Twos, and the Earlier Heisei Riders were pretty brutal, from what I’ve heard. Plus, you keep getting teleporters involved, so that doesn’t help in the slightest.
Thank you for finally asking what the Day of Oma is, though.
(Low INT, high-ish WIS.)
“Well, what future do the two of you want?” Asks the noodle with a pretty decent Charisma stat. And neither Geiz or Tsukuyomi actually have an answer for him.
(Ow, my heart.)
Okay, all the victims followed Ore Journal online, but it has since gone completely under, since it just couldn’t keep up with the times.
I was right on the money about Shinji, though, he clearly knows full well about the reflection teleportation, and now so do The Kids.
GEIZ I UNDERSTAND YOUR LOGIC. BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN I HAVE TO LIKE IT.
“Beat him in the time before the attack returns.” Because there’s a lag before the mirror shield shows up, so there’s a brief window of time. But an attack that would take it out that quickly would return just as powerful… directly at where it came from. Also known as the Rider who launched it.
And also also known as Geiz, if he gets his way.
Because a soldier who can’t defeat his enemies isn’t much of a soldier, now is he?
(Thanks a lot, eps 15 and 16. Thanks.)
Aaaand Uncle Tokiwa doesn’t actually know Woz’s name! All he could do for the Watch was clean it up… oooooh...
Sougo’s next powerup has an awful lot of that burnished gold on it. The same, or almost the same, tone as Oma Zi-O’s.
“Hello, my overlord~!” “Not. Now.”
Good boy, Sougo. And you even met this weeks tribute, and didn’t realize it!
I still don’t buy the “he doesn’t remember” thing, by the way, especially given the mirrored surfaces – how would he have known without having been Ryuki? Does he know about all the other victims? I don’t think you’ve actually talked to him yet. But I’ll let the memory ‘detail’ slide for now, since it looks like BlackWoz is actually being straightforward at the moment…
Aaand Sougo’s desperately trying to ignore him. Fair. Since that second Zi-O watch is tied to him becoming evil and all. Decent WIS stat, and also BlackWoz’s idea of ‘subtle’ is very much not so.
Meanwhile, with Geiz and Tsukuyomi… Yeah. He doesn’t plan to come out of this fight. Because what good is a soldier who can’t win?
And also, he, too, knows he is being stalked by his own personal Woz.
“What’s your end goal? If I come out on top, what’s your future like?”
“Just like this, a peace as if time has stopped.”
… Hi, yeah, not here for that phrasing at all, actually. Having just come out of HUGtto! Precure, wherein ‘stopping time so that despair can’t happen’ was kind of the villians whole thing, I’m trusting you even less than before.
Nothing can disturb the peace if nothing moves again, now can it?
But for Geiz and Tsukuyomi, literal veterans who have seen armies destroyed in the wave of an arm… they don’t have that frame of reference, now do they? They might just hear the “a time not unlike the one here” aspect.
“Hey, think I can use that notebook?”
“Nope, nuh-uh, OP reality warper powers are mine and mine alone.”
OOF. Right. Uhr contracted Mirror World Shinji, didn’t he? Which, of course, means that his existence is tied to Regular World Shinji’s existence. Can’t defeat the Another Rider? Take out his other link to living.
WhiteWoz and his “Obstacles are for killing” attitude does not sit well with Geiz.
“Hey, other me! You want revenge on that guy, right? The one who attacked you? Of course ya do! Why not!”
Meanwhile, Regular Shinji looks like he’s having thoughts along the lines of “I’m not going back to the belt! I’m out, man! I finished! I’ve finished like FIVE times already! Let me retire!”
Huh. The smudge over ‘Ryuga’ is gone. Neat. (aaand at which point I realized i’ve probably been spelling it wrong, and went back to fix all the places I used two ‘u’s on instinct.)
Clever, clever Uhr. “You can’t get a watch from a person who never existed, from a world that no longer ever was.”
...well, Schwartz could go to alternate timelines, so… Hey, Geiz, Tsukuyomi, Sougo, did any of you happen to get Tsukasa’s contact info?
Also, Tsukasa, did you have to clue the Time Jackers in on the ‘other worlds’ thing? I’m just saying, that might come back to bite you.
You are coming back, right? You don’t get to drop cryptic ‘I’m destroying this world first’ comments, and give tips to the assorted groups, and then just never come back.
It’s rude.
We need some sort of follow-through on this stuff, at least.
Geiz attempts his suicide attack… but Sougo knocks him out of the kick before he can gain momentum…
“I’m not letting you die, damnit! You still need to make sure I don’t go evil, and I’m definitely tempted by this watch right now...”
and then said watch doesn’t even try to activate.
Aaaand then Sougo gets wrestled into the Mirror World.
(Isn’t that place supposed to be super fatal if you don’t have an Advent Deck?)
Aaaah! The backwards writing, and the fact that some of it is glitching is bad enough. But the lack of sound? Nope, I’m not here for that at all. That’s never a good sign.
Although Kudos to O-T for getting the subtitles for some of those signs. Well done.
So, yeah, sorry Sougo, it’s not 3-Days-From-Now You this time. (But seriously, what happened to him?) This time it’s Evil You.
Not even 50-Years-From-Now Bad-Ending Evil You.
We’re talking a “Terran Empire Enterprise” type of Evil You. … well, at least he doesn’t have a goatee.
OH GOD AAAAGH GO BACK TO SILENCE PLEASE
Distorted belt effects are not okay! Agh! NononoNO!
Oh, and uh... Hey! Remember literally yesterday? When I said I’m loving the ‘parallel self’ juxtapositions that Zi-O’s been doing?
I should probably have remembered that the Ryuki tribute was next, and that I’ve seen the preview screenshots with Mirror Sougo being super creepy.
I may have changed my mind a bit on that juxtaposition love.
MISTAKES WERE MADE.

Hey there guys, how have you been?
I know I’ve been away from the internet for a while, believe, I’ve been really REALLY busy. If you are interested about, I’m gonna write it down here, but first... I’m aware about the new policy thing and I’m gonna spend my free time looking for post of mine that are fl*gged.
Anyway, I’ll try as hard as I can to keep at least this blog alive after this, I can’t say the same for my main @neorukix since it might have a few stuff that I can understand the reason of the “warning” but others that have nothing wrong, also, might as well reveal the s*n blog now that it might die :) it is was “kyuubeisbanana” and for that same reason, it won’t let me tag it nor make it available for the search engine, sorry guys.
Now, in case all my blogs die (because you now I have more than 3~) you can always find me in other social media.

Guess that’s as much I can cover for now, if there is an specific social media you use and I didn’t listed it here, you are free to ask maybe I have an account out there.
Thanks for your attention so far and for being so patient with me this whole time during my absence, now as for my status, gonna put it in read more because this is already so long~
So yeah, graduating is consuming my time like A LOT, for my graduation I need to complete a thesis so you can imagine what is consuming my time right now.
Another fact is how I have been spending time arguing with my internet and electricity company, like I’m paying the internet + phone on time and even earlier so I don’t have any troubles or at least that’s what I thought, for months my connection has been awful thus I don’t actually have access, hopefully I won’t have troubles again.
With the electricity company, the trouble was that someone else was receiving my bills and they payed without noticing while I received that person’s bills, of course I noticed it right away but there still were problems about this for a while so basically I stayed like a month or so without electricity (plus the internet troubles) and my uni internet is not really used for tumbling and I’m lazy af to unlock all the social media each time I use a computer so meh.
Also, since my time at school is not that much, I started to work and with the training plus actual work, let’s say that for now I’m working all week with just Sundays free which I use to sleep, listen my cats purr and try to work on my thesis. On daily basis I came home pretty late (sometimes at 9 pm, sometimes at 11 pm so the only thing I want to do is eat, bath and sleep).
Now that is December, I’m having time to breathe and since my thesis is all about drawing, I’m taking some time to rest my hand (maybe), sleep and catch up with animus like Hugtto Precure (bless Henri btw~), Gakuen Basara, Bandori and Yagakimi which, I was really looking forward since I read the manga and been following for a while so it’s all I ever wanted.
By the way, the reason I deleted the Instagram app from my phone was so I could install Bandori :) and honestly, with no art to post, I supposed it was fine, haven’t checked he account in a while haha, sorry but it’s IG’s fault because I would easily post from a computer! Why it must be a phone only social media?
So yeah, in my free time at job I use my phone data to play and I felt in love with the lesbeans~ Can’t wait for the season 2 of the animu, also thanks that Garupa Pico is only 3 mins long I can actually watch it weekly with my phone data.
If you read all of this, you mean the world to me, it just felt right to tell you guys this, in case you were worried because even my classmates asks me why I’m not longer posting stuff so I thought that internet folks might be worried as well, once again, let me thank you all for your patience and support, even if this site dies, I hope you can still support me in other sites.
Thanks! Promise to try to be active on December/January.

Cute High Earth Defense Club seems pretty harmless? (then again, i've only seen the first episode and about a third of the second. it seems like it's a little focused on advertising actual hot springs?) What are your opinions on the idea of magical boys? What do you think a magical boy anime would need to be good/true to the magical persons genre? What anime that would be considered magical boy would you recommend, if any?
I think I have to agree with @magicalgirlagency that the best magical boy is probably Sora from Kingdom Hearts, and probably the best (only?) example of a magical boy story I know with the boy as the main character, which isn’t a parody, doesn’t humiliate the main character for being a boy with magical powers, and Sora embodies the kind of thing you tend to find in Magical girls; a desire to save his friends, the want to help people, wants to stop bad guys and puts others above himself (while still being true to his own desires and goals).
I can’t say much for the games beyond 2, but I think the first Kingdom Hearts just on its own, removed from ALL the convoluted story and lore the other games tried to add to it and caused the story of the franchise to collapse in on itself like a neutron star, is an excellent Magical boy story about adventure and saving the world.
Sora:
Has a magical unconventional weapon (that has a special power)
Can do magic
had companions and is a team
was offered his powers by outside forces
Outside forces granted him powers to save the world as the end goal
Has an iconic outfit
(has animal companions????X’D)
fights bad guys
learns new attacks as he gains more power
Has “monster of the day” type enemies that get more powerful as he gets powerful
Has a final battle with the main bad guy in which he saves the world/s
And although I apply this only to the first game, if you want to say “But Sora doesn’t have a magical transformation sequence (which is not needed for a magical girl story btw)) I can point to the second game where he actually does
Tumblr media
Also personally I find the Summon spells to be so lavish they might as well count as a henshin sequence
Tumblr media
But other than Sora, I think Syaoran is an excellent example of a magical boy, even if he’s not the main character.
Tumblr media
He has his own attacks, outfit which is NOT making fun of him or making him a joke, has his own goals and motivations for doing things and is supportive of Sakura (even if at first he is against her being a cardcaptor as she, rightfully, doesn’t really know what she’s doing).
I also like the detail that for a while Syaoran had a BIG crush on  Yukito (another boy) it was NOT done in a way to make fun of Syaoran. Well... it was meant to be funny but the joke was how flustered he was by Yukito. NOT that he was crushing on another boy. It was also NOT used as queerbaiting since Syaoran is what... 9? 10 by the second season? And Yukito is in high school.
It’s played for an innocent childhood crush and he is never made fun of for it and it’s never played in a way to make him look stupid.
Tumblr media
(somebody help this poor boy)
Also, I have not watched Shugo Chara myself, but I have been told that show handles Magical boys quite well. Again its more like Syaoran where he is not the main character but is not like Tuxedo Mask where he is merely support in the background either, and who are not made fun of for being “a magical boy.”
Tumblr media
Basically, all a magical boy character or show or story with them as the main character has to do is 2 things;
1: the fact that they are a magical boy should not be a joke or a wayto humiliate the main character. Either in how they’re dressed, or portrayed in a manner where we the audience can tell we are suppose to find this situation funny because it is “absurd” for a boy to behave this way or be in the situation he is in.
and 2: It should not be using the magical boy situation as bait for yaoi fans, treating the main character as a fetish object with no character beyond how much objectification can be wrung out of him.
Basically, the male version of, say,
Tumblr media
Except instead of it being the physical objectification, it’s an objectification on an emotional level. “Look at these beautiful boys with feminine personalities laugh and touch each other and blush and have feelings”
And I’m not saying you can’t parody Magical girl shows. OF COURSE YOU CAN. You can parody anything you want. Magical Girl show parodies have been around for YEARS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in all fairness, Cute High Earth Defense Club is probably not the worst out there. It’s probably not even in the bottom 100 worst shows out there. And honestly, it’s fine if you like it and honestly find it funny.
But if someone were to come to me and ask me if they should watch it because they want an honest Magical Boy show, I’m not sure I could recommend it. Since it’s essentially using the tropes of Magical Girl shows as the joke by playing them off as dumb, and then trying to makeit extra funny by having the main characters be boys. Because the idea of boys behaving exactly like girls is in of itself a joke.
And frankly... that’s not a very good joke :/ It’s just lazy in my opinion?
You want a good joke in that vein check out Project A-ko and the brief joke of Mari.

The joke doesn’t start and end with “It’s a boy dressed as a girl”.
Project A-Ko is a giant parody of every anime which was popular at the time, and one of the biggest franchises of the 80s was “Fist of the North Star”. So Project A-Ko went “What if we have this situation where a school bully at this all girls’ school tries to beat up C-Ko?” (a classic shoujo story trope of the evil girl bully) “but what if we made the bully Kenshiro from this ultra-violent anime about people’s guts exploding. Because we’re trying to make this bully as ridiculously violent as possible. And then what if we make her still have her cutesy anime girl voice? and THEN what if we give her panty-shots just like you see many other anime give their cute girl characters. Because she IS a girl. And THEN what if we give her manly grunts and yells just like Kenshiro has to deeply contrast her girly voice. and THEN what if we took excruciating time to animate her doing all the lavish fight poses Kenshiro does while she’s beating up a defenseless girl!”
The joke is not “It’s funny because it’s a girl who looks like a boy” the joke is “Fist of the North Star is so fucking hyperbolic what if we put a character like that in a situation where there is NO NEED FOR IT.”
There’s a multilayered joke here, as well as a parody of anime tropes, as well as just being utterly surreal and ridiculous.
At the end of the day though, shows that use boys to parody magical girl shows would probably not be a big deal. It’s just the ONLY magical girl shows coming out these days is whatever new version of PreCure is being launched. and ALL OTHER magical girl shows are either grimdark torture porn, or these parodies. Which is why I think people are especially hostile towards them.
After all, I haven’t seen major hate for Papillon Rose. And that’s pretty bad as far as magical girl parodies go (basically being a hentai). But that’s probably because Papillon Rose came out in 2003, when there were still several straightforward magical girl shows being made.
So yeah. A Magical boy show/game/story would be FINE.
Just try to avoid those 2 things.
1: Don’t make the fact that your main character is a magical boy humiliating to them.
2: Don’t use the tropes of the genre as bait for Yaoi fans by turning the characters into fetish objects.

Greetings Fanboys and Fangirls everywhere, After suffering from Cartoon All Stars to the Rescue and the second season of Earth Defence Club, I just go a visit from the Freelance Police whom some of you might Recognize from there 1993 Hit the Road game, Sam & Max... Yeah Sam & Max are characters I never talked about on my Review page before, Basically starting out as Comic Strip Characters like Garfield, They began to hit big with there games and from what I've seen, They do not suck like Earth Defence Club in the like, But the Tell-tale game are what is the Resurgence to the Franchise, They came to me with a file of Complaint of Evil forces in the Neighbourhood, Alternate Dimensions making this one look odd, making fun of some Magical Boy groups without a licence, And turning a School Idol group evil... So they might be condemning my statues for the time being, But Max did say (Max: look on the bright side, You can stop with Phelous for the time being.... JWB: SQUIDWARD JWBS REVIEWS IS MOVIENG OUT!!!!!!!!!!) And so I'm Relocated in the Basement of Phelous's house, JWB: Thanks Phelan. Phelous: No problem buddy, now that your Review statues is part of mine temporarily, You can review some Animes and other stuff. JWB: Yeah and I might do the Live-Action TMNT movie reviews. Phelous: Yeah, But you know what would be interesting for you to do after the suffering you been in... Have you ever talked about a movie that features one Pretty Cure Group? JWB: Well you have a good point there Phelous, I don't think I have before. Considering that I've only covered three Pretty Cure All Stars movies so far (And probably defending the second DX movie and Phrasing two villains from Spring Carnival) I don't think I covered one of the Single team movies in general, in this case it shall be Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart the Movie released back in 2005 (Which is the first Pretty Cure movie ever to be made) with the Group that started this all, That's right everyone Cure Black and Cure White, along with there new recruit or stand-in Aid Shiny Luminous, Lets talk about the history, Well this Team started in 2004 Futari wa Pretty Cure or simply known to us all as Pretty Cure (PreCure for sort) this was the first series in the Pretty Cure metaseries created by Izumi Todo(Whom has become something of a God of PreCure). The original series, directed by Daisuke Nishio, aired on TV Asahi between February 1, 2004 and January 30, 2005 in the same timeslot as Izumi Todo's previous work Ashita no Nadja. It was the first of the Pretty Cure series to have received an adapted English-language version, Let me explain that more On February 25, 2006, 4Kids Entertainment announced broadcasting and distribution rights for Pretty Cure in the United States, though never produced an English version of it. In July, 2008, Toei Animation began making episodes available through IGN's Direct2Drive service subtitled into English, and have also started making those same episodes available for free internet streaming on the Crunchyroll website. The subtitles were produced by "Nippon Golden Network", a Hawaii-based cable network that broadcasts Asian programming (mostly from Japan). In April 2009, Funimation used to license the English-subtitled version of the series for online distribution on the company's website. The series is currently available for streaming in North America on Crunchyroll and Hulu. The theme song of the English dub is: Together We Are Pretty Cure. An English-dubbed version was produced by Toei and Ocean Productions using their Blue Water studio in Calgary, Alberta which aired on Canada's YTV channel from March 6, 2009 to July 31, 2010. The English dub makes several changes to character names, cultural references and theme music, though mostly retains the original version's main soundtrack. This dub also aired in the United Kingdom on the Pop Girl digital channel from September 6, 2010. The anime later re-aired on TV Asahi's cable channel, TeleAsa Channel 1. (What I think of the Dub.... I didn't think it was that bad, Would have been better then what 4kids would have done.) with the success of the first season A direct sequel, Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart, or simply Max Heart, aired in Japan between February 6, 2005 and January 29, 2006. (Unfortunately, This season along with the rest in the future never got dubbed at this point) Hence where we are not Reviewing the first Movie in the Franchise. Now the movie was directed by Atsuji Shimizu, I would look into some of the other things he's done but on Wikipedia, there's not much to look into I'm afraid, But at least we might learn more about them in the future, Now that we have that out of the way, Let's dive into the first Movie Pretty Cure movie that came into existence.
We begin our Story in a Dark and wet cave and for some reason a Pirate Ship is in it, (Wait a second, WE FOUND CAPTAIN MORGAN'S SHIP!) No it is home to our Antagonist of the movie the Dark Witch where she is looking into her Crystal ball for something that's interesting catches her eyes, Now she is voiced by Katsuki Masako now this might shock some people... She was the Voice of Sailor Neptune in the original Sailor Moon Series, She explains that she want's the Garden of Hope's Diamond line (Well that gonna cost you a lot) so she sends her minions the Zakenna's (Which the Pretty Cures of the first to seasons would usually fight) Now the opening theme here is from the first season which in this is the Max Heart version, Now to many fans the song is Iconic, How they put the opening in this movie kinda makes it feel like your watching an episode, Now we cut to our main protagonists of this movie and the Show itself let's start with Cure Black real name Nagisa Misumi who is voiced by non other then Yōko Honna whom some of you might know as Rin form xxxHolic, Ere from Oh my Goddess and Chika from The Cat Returns, In the English dub she is named Natalie Blackstone and was voiced by Rocio Barahona She is often known for her catchphrase of yelling "Unbelievable!" (Okey if you seen my other three Precure reviews before, and remember when I call her an Idiot, You must think I flat out dislike Cure Black, Which is not true, I do have some respect for her Character Development but when it comes to her personality... Well, I like to think of her as a special case, That or I like to make jokes about her) and Cure White real name Honoka Yukishiro who is voiced by Yukana who you might remember as Yuri Tanima from Wedding Peach and Mailin Li from Cardcaptor Sakura, In the English dub she is named Hannah Whitehouse and was voiced by Michelle Molineux, I sometimes see her as the Brainy girl to Nagisa's Stronger points like Yin & Yang are eating at Tako Cafe, and Akane Fujita / Alex Fujita who is voiced by Mikako Fujita says that if Nagisa keeps eating so fast and improperly, she'll never find a boyfriend. I'd take her word Nagisa, We wouldn't want your Female figure to go all Donute inside, But Hikari asks if it is Shougo / Shawn... Which makes her head blush, (Don't Hide it from me Nat, I seen the season where your going Red) Hikari Kujo aka Shiny Luminous by the way is voiced by Rie Tanaka who was Mars in Pokémon Diamond & Pearl and Shuri Kurosaki from Asura Cryin' (Good times) It's also not helped when He and his friend Kimata arrive, but is seems they are preparing for a Run... With Nagisa missing her chance to say something to the guy, I sometimes get the idea that she's afraid of boys, , Not sure if it's true or not but I can always speculate, After the boys left, Akane, Hikari, and Honoka were laughing in front of Nagisa, making her feel offended and almost went away, before Honoka noticed a diamond on her neck. Nagisa returned and everyone said it's really pretty. Akane-san said that she gifted this to herself for her birthday. While everyone were looking at the diamond, someone with a brown coat and hat was watching them. (Oh god it the demon creeper from Jeepers Creepers), While the girls and there Fairies Mipple said that she'd like to have one, and Mepple said that he'll definitely give her one someday. (phelous: HAHAHAHAAA HE said Mipple and Mepple HAHAHaaa) They got into love-love mode but suddenly returned to their commune forms, sensing a stalker. It keeps asking if they are really Pretty Cure. The girls were prepared to fight, and that figure kept asking them. Then more voices came from the invisible figure and he took of his coat. It appeared there were many things inside him and they started attacking Nagisa, Honoka and Hikari. The girls transformed into Pretty Cure and Shiny Luminous. And let me tell you something about the Transformation in this, IT's like they have been turned into Metal like the Liquid Metal T-1000 from Terminator 2, Shiny Luminous how ever doesn't have the same idea, But let me tell you something, She is "Life of the Queen" in human form after the Queen got split apart following her last encounter with the Dark King. They defeated those thingsand they reveal there true colours (Phelous: OH DEAR GOD, THE CREEPER IS REALLY THE GREMLINS, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES GIRLS!!! JWB: Noo... It's not the Creeper, It's much worse.) it appeared to be normal frog mascots with elastic arms. Oh god... This are the Courageous frog Warriors of the Garden of Hope. (Which I'm guessing is a Sister Location to the Garden of Light) we have Round I believe is the leader Oval, Heart, Pear, Trilliant, Marquis and.... GRRRR Square AHAHHHHHHHHHHHH They reveal to be that they were testing the Cures because they wanted them to protect their home world, the Garden of Hope. They explained their story about the Dark Witch, trying to thief their precious Diamond Line. Mipple, Mepple, and Pollun said that it's probably something similar to the Garden of Light's Prism Stones. They will help them; however, Hikari notices Akane will be really busy today. Then Honoka's grandma came, and they had to hide everyone in the closet. She asked to take off the laundry because it's going to rain. Sure deal with the Daily tasks first, I'm sure nothing bad will come while Time passes by... Later, the mascots kept asking them to come right now. Pesky little buggers aren't they, They said, that they'll give them charms - the proofs of courageous warriors in the Garden of Hope,, I guess that's the best way of Bribing them into it. So they go off and... It looks like they get encased in a Diamond as well (Phelous: I'm sure they might die due to lack of Oxygen, Knowing there might not be any air holes in them) http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/prettycure/images/c/ce/Goh1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150616115347 Is it me or does the Garden of Hope look like a Diamond shaped version of Earth... I'm just saying cause there's some similarities in it. So they land in the most Meateor hitting earth like manner and seems Pretty Cure's Mascots are sleeping, Ahh good they might need the rest. But unfortunately for Pretty Cure... They'll be traveling to where the Frogs will guild them... on foot... (Khadger: Well, the Lang travel on foot might gain them some VP, But they might need some weapons to fight off some enemies along the way), They finally make it to a Castle that... Just an even bigger Diamond then the rest, These Damn frogs are living the dream aren't some enemies along the way), They finally make it to a Castle that... Just an even bigger Diamond then the rest, These Damn frogs are living the dream aren't that's when they meet the Prince... Why... Why is he here? file:///C:/Users/new%20user/Pictures/Saved%20Pictures/Prince_of_Hope.jpg Seriously, The Prince look like Nagisa's Crush, Really what's he even doing here? They also head over to the Fountain of Hope where they are looking at a Frog Statue, I kid you not, It's explained that this is the Guardian God of the Fountain, The Kero Kero God, And gee, I wonder what there Queen will be like, I must question the idea of everything even the buildings being made of a Mineral that's is... harder then glass, the Garden of Hopes must have this very weird Diamond based economy, (Phelous: I can imagine some Pirates and Treasure Hunter's going crazy for this one, Isn't that Right Old Man? WOW This worlds fortune most be higher then my Cousins bank account, Old Mayor, ) So they meet the Queen who Greets them with her Horned Butler What the Damn hell is he? He then gives Pretty Cure the Diamond Line which is just a Necklace Earrings and a Bracelet, So that is what the Dark Witch is after... Not much to see there, Alright, And your entrusting the Girls that are still new to there upgrades season with it, you dumb shit, And the reason why they are entrusting them with them is that they are the Queens B-Day presents, Fare enough... and it gives hope to all the worlds, and if the Diamond Line is stolen, then all the hope is lost and all the worlds (including Garden of Rainbows) will be deserted in darkness, (This is quite a lot to take in so, Please take your time) before the trio agreed to help them. Later, when the mascots told girls about the party, And this is where I point out Why I really hate Square... Because he is the Biggest Ass-hole of the Group, Square opposes the Cures' help, and proves that the warriors should be protecting the Diamond Line, and now walks away. (Phelous: Trust issues much?) Anyway the mascots told girls about the party, and Pollun awakened. He met Marquis and they became friends. Honoka follows to talk with Square, but when they tried talking, And like a Prick he just ran away. And things start to get unsavoury, At the Party Square started making fun of them, that they can't work alone, only by combining their powers. (NEVER INSULT THERE FIGHTING TECHNICKS) Nagisa got furious at him and ran away, which makes Mepple follow her. Nagisa getting pissed like this is like me getting Angry at Square at this point. Don't forget She's bigger then him so She'd squash the Basterd. Then the prince came, and asked, did the witch already came. Honoka lied, that she went to patrol outside. (Okey I know that Telling the Prince on Square's Ass-hole behaviour might discredit him in front of everyone in the Party might make you girls look like bigger Asses, But Lying to the Prince is probably the Worse thing you can do, Have you heard of the Story of the Boy who cried Wolf, I though you where smarter then this Honoka?) Meanwhile, everything started and the Queen came out wearing the Diamond Line. She blessed the diamonds of the citizens, and went outside. Until.... Dark Witch Finally shows up to interrupted the celebration and begins to attack with her Zakenna, formed into a pirate ship. (Well gotta hand it to her, She is quiet creative) The knights tried battling her, and she transformed front of her ship to shark Zakenna. Without Nagisa, Honoka and Hikari could just watch. Then Hikari transformed to Luminous to fight until Nagisa comes, (Blame Square for making her Run off) but she was beaten by one shot... The witch triumphantly stole the Diamond Line from the Queen, According to the Dark Witch, she is one of the servants of the Dusk Zone, and her goal is to resurrect the Dark King with the Diamond Line, (Okey, Now I must say something about the Dark Witch's design, Abit alright but All I have to say Yish to that Hair do, Did Taz do his Spinning on there head?) since all the world will be imbalanced. Luminous halted her, but the witch knock her unconscious. Nagisa finally arrived to transform to Pretty Cure. (Nagisa: Sorry sorry, I was late, I had some minor Traffic involving Party people to deal with. Honoka: Ohh That's okey, Traffic Jams involving running crowds are hectic at times.) They tried fighting back, but they become flimsy, before the Dark Witch disappears. (Well that didn't go so well) Everyone, especially Square, blamed Black, (WOW, Not even the slightest amount of Remorse from the Blue Frog, And Admits that he was right without even acknowledging the whole they can't transform without the other SQUARE YOU F%$@ING MISRABLE FROG OF HATE!!!!!!, The Beast was at least was a sympathetic character when you get to know him more in Beauty and the Beast. And why are the rest of you Blaming Nagisa for this little Defeat you Dumb shits?) but Mipple and Mepple defend her. Sadly enough, Black just apologized to everyone and went away crying. So the just asked these girls to protect the Diamond Line without getting information about this Pretty Cure Group, That's abit rushed don't you think? Loo I admit, Maybe they screw up abit... on some occasions, But was this really necessary? This just pits some of the fairies as Sort-sighted Arrogant little Ass-hats that would kick anyone that screws up some of the most simplest tasks, Which is... Wrong And... I fell sorry for Cure Black in this, I don't blame her for being late for the battle, If Square had kept his Frogy mouth shut, Then the Out come would have been different, After the prince talks to Black and giving her his Badge of a Warrior, Then Black was walking the hall when White called her. They decided to go and take back the bracelet. Everyone (except Square, who was still thinking of them as burdens) (JWB: Square just shut the f#@$ up! Phelous: And I though Toad was annoying) seemed to be forgiven Black. Without the Diamond Line, the Fountain of Hope started parching, and the Garden of Hope started being wrecked too. Then everyone flied to the place where the witch is with the same spell. The prince tried to follow them, but he couldn't travel without his charm. (Then Why didn't you have another one in your Room... The People of the Garden of Hope are ether crazy or Just Stupid?) So they make it to the Ship Graveyard and... It seems she's been gathering a lot of Ships, I'm not impressed, I mean where's the Titanic? until the bat Zakenna broke the diamond, making them fall. White had to save Black from falling, because she can't swim. (Really Cure Black, You can't swim, Haven't you taken Swimming classes at school Nat?) While the battle goes on the Dark Witch decides Hay I want to fight Pretty Cure to. she prepares to battle the Cures. Square tries punching her with his elastic abilities, but she moved quickly and used a move on Square. YAY the Ass-holes got what he desearved, Pretty Cures decided to use Marble Screw Max, but the witch dodged the move with her gigantic dark element. Now, every ship was set ablaze. (JWB: Phelous, Just how powerful is this Witch? Phelous: It's Over 9000!!! JWB: WHAT 9000?) Anyway The girls tried to save everyone, but Marquis was missing, and Round finds his torn cape. Square blamed Pretty Cure,(IT WAS THE WITCHES FAULT YOU WALKING BLUE MISTAKE OF NATURE!!! I'm this close to ringing that Frogy neck of yours) but everyone else said, that it was the witch's fault. Then the charms reacted to the bracelet in order to discover Marquis. Well that's useful, So The Cures fight against the bats to proceeded to the witch and steal the ball from the Dark Witch. Pretty Cure were battling the witch, while the mascots carried the bracelet into the Garden of Hope, and started carrying it to the palace. While Battling Cure Black just remembered something, that today is a sale at chocolate store, and because of that witch she won't get in time to buy them (Cure Black, that's not important to this plot, though... Idiot!). But To the Girls credit there Fighting stills are kinda fast pace (Phelous: JWB, What's the status on Pretty Cures Powers? JWB: It's over 8000!! Phelous: 8000... That's not to bad) but she fired her move right in front of the girls' faces, making them collapse. Then Marquis came out of the ship to the Black, and the witch flew back to the castle to take back the bracelet. Well at least the Prince is Helping the Frogs take the bracelet to the Castle, Marquis cried of Pretty Cure. He said the spell, but nothing happened. (Holy shit are they really dead?) He started crying again, but the charm the prince gave to Black reacted. Trouble comes when The witch sent her bat Zakenna to fight the frog mascots, while she herself headed to palace. Prince and Hikari got to the palace, but the witch quickly appears. Prince tried battling the witch with his sword, but he was trembling, (Phelous: You know the Prince is bit of a weak moron isn't he?) even though he faces his fear. The Dark Witch fired at the prince, but Hikari sacrificed herself, and passes out. (NOT AGAIN, I'm getting the idea that She's not the most useful without her fellow Cures) Then Black and White got mad and stood to fight. (Ohh shits going down now!) The witch summoned dozen of bat Zakennas, and Black and White defeated them with one blast. (JWB: Phelous... What are the readings now? Phelous: T.t...t... 10'000!!!!!!!) Alright it's the final level and The witch transformed to her true form and started attacking cures. The girls were weak, but they still stood. White said, that for them to losing is "Really unbelievable". (Cure Black Hey!! That's my line! Cure White: Ohh Sorry, I couldn't think of anything else to say) The Queen now regenerates and commands everyone to give their powers to the girls. They have to believe in the cures and the diamonds. Everyone stood in circle around the cures, and gave them powers. Hikari woke up being transformed to Luminous. The Dark Witch summons her attack at everyone, but Square sacrificed himself barely to deny the attack. Ahh that was pretty Noble of him to Sacrifice his own existence for there's, Maybe he's learned something from this... But then again... Maybe not. Everyone, including Square, gave the girls their charms. They transformed into golden versions, and have the ability to fly and were too fast for the witch. allowing Pretty Cure to defeat the Witch for good... Okay there golden forms are nothing special in my opinion, Just gold versions of there Precure cloths with some extra features, At least it's not as stupid at Power Ranger's Metallic Armour that's really Glitter. The Garden of Hope and the Fountain of Hope reverted to normal. After a really tearful goodbye (With the Acceptation of Square having al little bit of Character Development), the girls returned back to their home. with Square in tears, (JWB: Ahh I love the sound of a Crying Ass-hole, What about you Phelan? Phelous: Yes, Feed me your tears you little Basterd Hahahahaa) And so this Movie ends with Hikari came back, Akane said that it's still her break. Honoka worried, that she didn't took off the laundry her grandma mentioned earlier. Then Nagisa saw a frog outside. Honoka claims that it's the Kero Kero God. The girls decided to try flying just the 2 of them, but nothing happened, reminding this playfully. Not sure that's how the Frog God works but that's gonna be something I'll have to accept without question, So Phelous did we learn something from this? that WE HATE THIS MOVIE COMPLETELY!!!!!
Okey Truth be told, We didn't hate it completely, It was... Okey for Pretty Cures first outing into movies, It's by all means not perfect, But it's enjoyable but Frustrating in places, Feels like it could have been a Movie that would Bridge the First season and the Second season, But it's alright, The Animation is okey for the most part, Probably the same budget as the show, Funny because this feels like a three part Episode, So I give this first Pretty Cure movie 7 out of 10, Also Square is an Idiotic and Untrusting Ass-hole, The other Frogs should have killed him for being this stupid, (But then Phelous and JWB see Square Hungged and such image shocked the two Reviewers) Ohh I guess we get the pleasure of Ghostbusting Square now... Man this is bad... Hope Sam & Max don't bust me for Murdering a Frog Mascot.
Cure White: Turns out Being Murdered did not help Squares position as Guardian at all, He was replaced by an Old Man. Old-Man: Haha, Now I'm the Guardian of the Garden of.... What ever this place is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxlBmJdtMVA.

Star Twinkle Precure Episode 48
Tumblr media
The power of Imagination is really incredible.
First and foremost I wanna apologize for all the trash I dumped in the last episode BECAUSE THIS WAS AN AMAZING CLIMAX FOR THIS SEASON AND I LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT.
Okay, I have a few small problems here and there, but there are so many more positive things to talk about that my problems become VERY small in comparison with all the good things this episode had.
This episode was an emotional bomb from beginning to end, even to me who isn't someone that cared a lot for most of the relationships established in this show, I was really touched by everything.
Tumblr media
The first part of this episode felt very heavy and suffocating, Hikaru was doing those desperate faces when she saw Ophiucus survived and I was pretty much going through the same thing, I was legitimately frightened when the universe started to get swallowed by darkness, and Ophiucus imponent evil presence just helped in making that situation even more scary and dark. Ophiucus is one of the best final bosses in all of precure, hands down, look at the power this woman holds, just amazing. I also love that one of the points I didn't like in the last episode was touched in here which made me get a whole new admiration for what happened there. Because their feelings weren't united with Fuwa's, because they were hesitant at that moment, that the "ritual" failed and Ophiucus was able to come back and this is strong. If I could go back on time to last week I'd stop myself from having written those words about Hikaru's hesitance because that was obviously the right decision for Hikaru to make at that moment, and of course the show didn't let that just slip by, it had consequences so, that was perfect. Past Venus is a very dumb boy.
Following this high moment of despair, we have what was to me the best moment of this entire episode. In the middle of the darkness, Hikaru starts to shine like a lonely little star lost in the sky and she has an opportunity to let all her feelings get out, I kinda wish we had seen Hikaru trying to deal with all these emotions alone for a bit longer, I don't know maybe just one more minute of only Hikaru so that she could speak more and we could feel that sinking in even deeper, I'm sorry I like the angst in moments likes this.
Tumblr media
Regardless of how much time we spent with Hikaru lost in the void, I really like how the episode made Lala and the girls find Hikaru and not it be the other way around because it kinda emulates what their presence changed in Hikaru's life. Hikaru has always been a lonely kid until Fuwa and the gang crashed into her life and she finally found friends and the joy of having human interactions that go beyond your family and, at least to my eyes, that was what they were trying to do here. Hikaru was alone and sad again, and then Lala came to her and said "we're here" and then in that place that was dark and empty we saw a light, we saw a place that was bright up and felt cozy, just like what their friendship did with Hikaru. It was absolutely gorgeous.
Of course, I couldn't mention this moment without highlighting one of the best moments of the season where the girls started singing the transformation song a capella. I watched this episode twice (one while it was airing, and one with subs) and in both times I had goosebumps during this part. I don't have the vocabulary to make justice to how beautiful and strong that was and all the emotions that it made me feel. This was the absolutely perfect moment to crown the first half of the episode.
Tumblr media
The climax of the show came right after it in the best fighting scene of this season, and probably one of the best final fights we had in the entire history of this franchise. That fight was everything I could've asked for AND MORE. Up until tomorrow, I had no high opinions on the Twinkle Style, most of it because we only see it being used during the stock footage sequence for their finisher, but after seeing the girls fighting on it, GOSH HOW BEAUTIFUL THESE OUTFITS ARE! They are so big and sparkly! It's a real shame we didn't get to see it being used more often in this final arc, to hide such a gorgeous power-up behind a stock footage sequence is a crime.
Tumblr media
I loved how dynamic this fight felt even though they were in space with no gravity acting on them, it was really something else. I know that for a yearly show they don't have the budget to spend in a lot of fights like this one, but I really wish we had seen more instances of the girls fighting on space, they were SO CREATIVE with it for this fight imagining all the fun fights we could've gotten made me sad a little 😅. Oh well, moving on. XD If I say that I really got that final speech they were giving while they were beating Ophiucus down I'd be lying, but it sounded cool so I don't really care that much. The moment where they called upon the souls? the imaginations? of everyone that was swallowed by the darkness was really good as well, though I wonder how a lot of those earthlings that didn't know about the precure existence were there landing their power too. But that's a minor thing, it doesn't take away from the moment a single bit, especially because Fuwa's spirit was there too to share her powers with the girls one last time so that was awesome, and very visually pleasing as well.
Tumblr media
Now, one thing that I don't like is how Ophiucus was just able to walk away from that situation even though she basically destroyed the entire universe minutes before. Like, I'm okay with her still being alive, it wouldn't make sense for this team to destroy a life after everything we saw, but I think that for her to walk away with no punishment is kinda revolting. Maybe it's just me, I think it hits a bit to close to home seeing people in high positions doing horrible stuff and getting away with it, but I really didn't like that Ophiucus was able to hide on her own dark corner in the universe as she pleased.
Tumblr media
But it's not like my discontent lasted long and left a bad impression on me, after all right after it we got another high point of the episode. I said last week I wouldn't like to see them bringing Fuwa back, but I really like how it happened here, they sacrificed their powers to be able to bring Fuwa back and even though Fuwa was revived she wasn't exactly the same, she had memories of the girls but she was still kinda clueless about everything and I think that was a good way to do this resurrection without nullifying the importance that Fuwa's sacrifice had.
Tumblr media
But the thing I really liked was seeing their goodbye. I always wondered if they would go there and make Lala and Yuni go back to their planets after the final fight, I mean I was sure Yuni would go back after all that was the reason why she became a precure, but I wasn't sure about Lala and I'm glad they made Lala part her ways with the girls too. I know it's a sad moment and a lot of people didn't like that this happened, but I think it's important especially for Hikaru, I always wished that by the end Hikaru would be alone but not lonely anymore because she knows she has friends even if they're not together all the time and having the ending be like this may be a sign that this is a direction they'll take, at least for the first part of the epilogue episode next week. Also, it was a very beautiful moment, Yuni saying she would be okay because Eyewon would be there with her trying to find a way to revert the people of Rainbow Planet with her was very gay and absurdly cute, and seeing Lala lose her ability to speak Japanese as the power of the pendant faded was hard but it just made her goodbye with Hikaru even more touching because I could feel in my bones that she was trying her best to properly say "Hikaru, thank you". Y'all know I'm not the biggest fan of Hikaru and Lala together, but that moment was gold, I shed a tear there.

I'm kinda sad that wasn't the actual finale and we still have one more episode to go because this was the perfect ending we could've gotten and I'm afraid that what we get next week won't be as good and the final memory we'll have of Star Twinkle won't be this moment. HOWEVER, this series is written by the same guy that wrote Mahou Tsukai and we had a similar situation in that series and I really liked how they made the reunion happen there so we can get something just as cool and as emotional here so there's still hope.
I feel like this is all for now. What are your thoughts on this episode? Let me know in the comments. I'll see you all the next time. bye-bye~ o/

Welp, I’m bored. I’m way behind on watching Kamen Rider Build. Okay, so it’s more “I got behind halfway through the season and don’t think I can catch up.” Eh, its not like I was really liking it at this point. I liked Gaim, Drive, and Ex-Aid way more. However, since I haven’t technically finished Ex-Aid by way of not having gotten to watching the later movies and most of the specials yet, I do most of my theories and ‘future family issues’ for Drive.
(And to think, I only watched Gaim because it looked absurd and was on right before Doki Doki Precure. Which I dropped halfway through, and didn’t come back to Precure until Happiness Charge. Go figure. That’s… just what’s happening with Kamen Rider – I’m going to start over once Zi-O starts. Which, much like Happiness Charge, is an anniversary season. Huh.)
Okay, okay. That’s enough of that.
I like doing post-series worldbuilding. It’s just FUN, and lets speculation run wild.
And Drive is RIPE with post-canon potential.
One of my recurring trains of thought is “How is the Drive Family Doing?”
By family, I don’t just mean Shinnosuke, Kiriko, and Go. I mean the entire team. ALL of them.
***
(more behind the cut, this started getting long winded.)
***
See, I figure that we’ve seen the Special Investigation Unit still works together and keeps in touch after the events of the main series. It’s not always in any “formal” situation, but… They’re all definitely friends, and Heart’s chapter of Drive Saga shows it. Go, Rinna, and Kyu are all working together to get Chase back, and Otta becomes friends with Heart after that… doesn’t quite work. (This means that Otta’s probably distantly friends with Brain and Medic, too – bodysharing is WEIRD.)
So. The Special Investigation Unit is basically one big extended family… but the humans aren’t the only members of that family.
I mean, both the Ghost & Drive movie and the Ex-Aid & Ghost movies have proven that fate is just not going to let Krim hide out in his depression cave. He keeps getting brought back out, first in the Ghost film to help in that fight (thanks, time travel) and again in the Ex-aid movie to help in THAT absurd fight. (Thanks to everyones favorite street-dancing-fruit-samurai-jesus-adam.) (You know, Kouta.) (Gaim got WEIRD. Thanks, Urobuchi.)
So, that’s Krim being dragged out of his literal hole in the ground via some sequence of events. But I’m not stopping there. Oh no.
I AM GIVING GO HIS FRIEND BACK.
The Ghost movie was just... such a TEASE. The Drive & Gaim movie was bad enough with Kaito, but no. The Ghost & Drive movie had to bring back FOUR characters.
(Mind you, by ‘bad enough’, I mean the “… oh. Right. He fought alongside the team again but is very definitely dead” bad enough. Megahex TORE MY HEART OUT with that, and then the next crossover film pulls the same thing TIMES FOUR.)
But, while the Ghost & Drive films status within canon is questionable (thanks, time travel), the Heart and Mach specials are almost definitely canon. And all three imply that Roidmudes not only have an afterlife, but can be resurrected. (thanks, 005. Now cut it out.)
That makes five characters that are getting back into the game – Krim, Chase, Heart, Brain, and Medic. You get a body, YOU get a body, Everyone’s getting a body! Heart, Brain and Medic are basically those slightly odd uncles and aunt and sometimes you wind up with one showing up and crashing on someones couch for a week because there was A Disagreement at their place.
Yeaaaah, I was plotting out some of this and… it takes a bit to make it work at first, but after a while those three are in a poly relationship. They shared a body, and that… that shit doesn’t leave you, and both Brain and Medic were already Super Into Heart. Heart’s… well, he got that name for a reason, and if it weren’t for Banno’s influence, probably would have been a pretty decent guy from the start.
***
Krim is actually the last one to get up and walking. Quite frankly, he ran and hid at the end of the series, and I personally think that he would be the most nervous of any of the data-folks to have a body again.
He has to be talked into regaining a physical form, but eventually caves. He gives in mostly for practicality – he has like three options for movement otherwise, but none of them are convenient. One is just... being carried places, being worn or otherwise. The second is being on that cart he uses around the Drive Pit, and... well, wheels aren’t exactly great at stairs. His third option is riding on the Trailer Cannon – which while it’s the only one of the Shift Cars to be LARGE enough to carry him, it’s also absurdly slow. Probably even more than usual when it’s weighted down by, say, a grumpy belt.
Okay, technically Krim’s got FOUR options, but since the last is the Tridoron, it’s even less practical, being a car and all.
The thing is, he has a lot of difficulty adjusting to having a body - “HOLY CRAP LEGS WHAT IS THIS WALKING IS HARD NOW”
(Except, you know, said both more eloquently and somehow hammier. Krim Steinbelt is a classy man, but also one who may or may not have been making the all the belt announcements himself.)
The third time he falls over – in a row, mind you – Shinnosuke’s just… he’s had it, okay? “Everyone has been working nonstop to get you out of the belt, and we were trying to ease you into this. We’ve been training for two months now, with you piloting Type Tridoron the entire time, and had zero problem with that. I mean, you had no problem with it the first time around. You know, when we had both just literally come back to life.” (thanks, Freeze.) “What the actual hell.”
(Except, you know, said both more eloquently and somehow even dryer. Tomari Shinnosuke is smart, and also is kind of a little shit when he wants to be.)
“Well, it’s different when it’s just me!”
Exactly no one is impressed.
***
At some point, it becomes apparent to everyone that the Executives having shared a body That One Time had some… side effects.
And by “at some point” I mean it becomes abundantly clear after Heart walks in on Brain attempting to practice ballet. Brain then proceeds to swear Heart to secrecy on pain of everyone else ‘happening to find out’ that Heart has a suspiciously familiar handkerchief tucked in an inner pocket of his jacket. This threat fails completely, because that’s about when Rinna walks in, having been asked by Medic (who, along with Brain, is a fair amount more personable by way of longterm exposure to actual sane, functioning humans) to help find these two morons.
“...”
“...”
“… does Medic know you two are here?” says the scientist, looking at these two morons who are frozen mid-argument.
“… ...”
“… ...”
“She does now,” says the scientist, taking a picture with her cellphone.
“!!!”
“!!!”
This eventually leads to both of them having to find someone else’s couch to sleep on, not because she’s mad that they’re using her studio, but because they hadn’t asked permission.
(Also, the reason Medic wasn’t looking for them herself was because she was getting some social media lessons from Kyu, who had been helping Rinna and Go with teaching the less tech-savvy members of The Drive Fam how normal technology works - you four are literally androids, why is Brain the only one who can use a computer.)
It’s literally just because of the guy he copied. That’s the only advantage he has over Heart and Medic. Chase picked up a bit while working with everyone last time around. Otta has been strong-armed into the lessons by Rinna. (he’s whipped.) Krim and Shinnosuke are also in them – Shinnosuke because he is not the best at it, and Krim? Well, while Krim’s good at inventing and mechanical things, he has kind of been out of the loop for a number of years between being a belt in hiding, being a belt that is normally attached to a superhero, and being a belt hiding in a depression cave.
(He did most of that to himself - “hiding until the world is ready” my rear end. It’s a depression cave and you know it old man.)
So, yeah. I didn’t realize that Found Families are kind of my jam until recently, and now I’m stuck thinking about these things when I’m working.
A part 2 on “Why has Tomari Eiji never heard of these films?” coming soon in the form of a personal reblog once I figure out how to word it.
