Why are you unlovable?
Margaret Houlihan:
you project your insecurities
people want to love you, but you're so worried about if everyone hates you instead that you end up warding them off. you don't have to keep yourself so locked up, it's okay to let someone hold your hand man.
Kellye Yamato:
you just want it too badly
you love with your whole body, it's not bad, but it's overwhelming. sometimes giving others space can be okay, i know you're scared of losing them but it will be better in the long run if you also learn how to be your own person. codependency is scary, but you are brave.

F I N A L Â G I R L Â | Â F O U R
You were his final girl. Â And there was no chance in hell that anyone or anything was going to mess that up.
p a r t  f o u r  |  k e y s
masterlist here
pairing: Billy Loomis x f!reader word count: 4.4k warnings: angst, s m u t, some more s m u t, teasing, finger-licking good billy boy, implied/referenced cheating, def not a healthy, functioning relationship (but like eh we persevere), some more s m u t.Â
Despite your best efforts, the last few days had been miserable without Billy.
You hadnât realized just how much of a routine heâd become over the last seven months, how much youâd both come to rely on each other and, fuck, did you miss him. You missed his smell, you missed that small little cheeky grin of his, you missed curling up beside him and feeling him over every inch of your skin. Your body craved for him in an almost primal way but, while you could live with denying your body its needs, it was your heart that hurt the most.
What was supposed to be a quick release for the two of you had never been that easy. Youâd been in love with the idiot since freshman year, seen him through his various ups and downs and heâd seen yours, too. Which was precisely what made this entire situation that much harder. Not only were you dealing with your own heartache, but you were witnessing his, too.
Billyâs grief was more or less a blink-and-youâll-miss-it sort of thing. Ever the stoic silent type, you hadnât expected to see much of what he was feeling splayed out on that handsome face of his, but shocking even you, his regret was palpable. And each and every time those brown eyes met yours, that grief that was as clear as day struck you blind.
Youâd tried telling yourself that it was for the best because, in all honesty, it was but that didnât make the pain go away. Nor did it make you miss him any less. You were trapped in a vicious cycle of missing Billy, sticking to your guns, and worrying about him all at once.
God, youâd really fucked up with this one.
âYou sure youâre okay?â Tatum asked, narrowing her eyes at you as you shoved a handful of books into your locker. âYouâve been scatterbrained all week.â
âIâm fine,â you shrugged, âwhy wouldnât I be?â
âYou tell me,â she leaned her hip against the locker. âIs this about Steve?â
You blinked as the question played on loop in your head. âSteve?â You asked, giving the strawberry blonde your full attention. âFirst of all, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart: ew. Secondly, huh?â
Tatum smirked. âDonât play dumb, youâve been acting all weird since Billy went psycho on his ass last week.â
âNo, I havenât,â you hoped your laugh didnât sound as fake as it felt. âAlso, Steveâs an asshole. If the day ever comes when I am interested in that big oaf, feel free to euthanize me.â
âPromise,â she made a motion of crossing her heart, âbut in the meantime, you swear nothing is up?â
âCross my heart,â you mimicked the gesture and shut your locker. âWhat are you up to after practice tonight? Want to go see that new Brad Pitt movie?â
Her shoulders fell. âCanât, Stuâs coming over,â she unwrapped a lollipop and shoved it in her mouth. âIâd say ask Sid, but she got into it with Billy last night so sheâs in a mood.â
You tried not to care, you really did, but her words hit you like a freight train. âThey did?â You asked, hoping beyond hope that your voice didnât sound quite as high pitched as it sounded in your head. âWhat happened?â
âWho knows,â Tatum shrugged, âBillyâs always been a little intense and Sidâs been a little cagey sinceâŚwell, you know â so, itâs bound to happen.â
You swallowed hard and continued to nod along to Tatumâs words. Were you nodding too frequently? Did you appear too interested all of the sudden? Catching yourself, you focused on the leftover gum on the locker just behind your friendâs head and cleared your throat. âThatâs shitty.â
âRelationships,â Tatum waved off, âtheyâre all pretty shitty sometimes.â
Before you could finish putting your foot in your mouth any further, the third bell rang out signaling your next class. Your most dreaded class: Biology. With a groan you tossed your bag over your shoulder and frowned across at Tatum. âSee you at practice?â
With a nod, Tatum took off towards her class as you slowly sauntered towards your own. You were halfway down the hall when you heard a set of heavy footfalls running towards you from behind. Glancing over your shoulder, you barely had time to register Stuâs smiling face before he threw an arm around your shoulders. âHow ya doing, pal?â
âPeachy,â you scraped your eyes along his profile and blinked. âIf youâre about to play the rule of dutiful henchman for you know who, Iâve got a class to flunk.â
âHarsh,â Stu beamed, âI see why our boyâs so smitten.â
With a roll of your eyes, you glanced around at the people around you and glowered up at him. âStu,â you warned, âIâm not in the mood for this.â
âFor what?â He feigned innocence. âI havenât said a word.â
âBut you want to,â you mused. âAnd I donât want to hear it.â
Stu chuckled. âAll I was going to say is, like, I get it.â
You shouldnât have taken his bait. What you should have done was push him off of you and continue on your merry way to class. That would have been the smart thing to do, the responsible thing to do.
Too bad you were neither of those two things.
Roped in, you sighed in defeat. âGet what?â
âIâll be the first to admit,â he began, âwhen Bill told me that you and him wereâŚyou know, I laughed. I mean, two broads, man? I can barely handle the one howâs he going to deal with two of you?â
âIâm hoping thereâs a point coming,â you groused.
âRight,â he laughed again, âmy point is that I get it. I get why you two work. Why heâs knee deep in this big fucking mess because of it. You two work.â
âStu,â you threw your head back and glared at the ceiling. âStop.â
âWhat?â He asked. âAm I wrong?â
You gently pushed him away from you and dropped your voice into a whisper. âThatâs not the point. Heâs with Sid.â
âSo?â Stu made a face. âHer mom just died, what do you want him to do? Dump her and break her heart? Her mom just died, thatâd callous, man.â
âWeâre breaking her heart either way, whether she knows it or not.â
Stu stopped walking and there was a compassion in his stare that left you reeling. For as long as youâd known him, Stu Macher had always been the goof. The reckless, chaotic idiot that seemed to fit just perfectly into your little mish mash of a group. But the sincerity in his blue eyes as the two of you stood in the emptying hallway was a look youâd never seen before.
âAnd by doing this, youâre breaking yours.â He limply shrugged. âBillyâs, too.â
Your shoulders fell as the weight of Stuâs words sank in. You couldnât exactly say much in terms of a rebuttal, naturally, because he was right. There were no happy endings for either of you at this point in the charade. Sid had still been lied to and cheated on, Billy was still trapped in a relationship he no longer wished to be in in fear of hurting the girl he once loved and you were stuck in the middle, watching two people you cared for fall to bits while having to remain stoic in fear of showing your hand.
What a fucking mess.
After another minute of silence, Stu wriggled his eyebrows and squeezed your shoulder reassuringly. âJust something to think about.â
Taking off down the hall, Stu left you to your own devices as you stood in the middle of an empty hallway with far too much on your mind. In an almost zombie-like trance, you took off in the direction of your biology class, not quite caring that you were about to be marked as tardy for the third time that week. But, before you got to that god-forsaken class, you heard the click of a door not far off before a pair of arms encircled around your middle, yanking you into the nearest classroom. A surprise yelp tore out of your mouth, but the full-fledged scream died in your throat as soon as you realized just who it was who had grabbed you.
âJesus, Billy, you scared the hell out of me.â You grasped your chest and took in the dark, empty classroom around you. He was still holding you against the nearest wall, you could feel the heat of those large hands through your thin shirt. âWhat the fuck are you doing?â
âSorry,â despite the desperation in those brown eyes, his voice never wavered. It was still as calm and collected as ever. âIâd go to your house, but itâs been like Fort Knox for the last week or so.â
You chewed on your lip for a moment before averting your eyes to the ground, not quite being able to stomach the weight of his stare just yet. âBilly, unless anythingâs changed, Iââ
âIn case anythingâs changed?â He reiterated with raised brows. âEverythingâs changed. I miss you, Y/N, more than you can even comprehend. I know Iâve fucked up, I know that, but I need you. The last nine days without being able to really see you or feel you or kiss you orââ
âI get it,â you held your hands up and gently pushed him away. âAnd itâs been hard on me, too, Billy. But it doesnât change anything.â
For a few, long, agonizing moments, Billy remained still as a thousand different emotions splayed out across his face. There was anger and grief, sadness and desperation. But the look you got as he dropped to his knees in front of you was pure, unadulterated fear. âI promise you, Y/N, the second I can, when the time is right, Sid and I will be no more. But me and you are it, sweetheart,â his hands gently circled around your hips before embracing you around your middle. âIâm so fucking sorry that this is how it has to be right now. And Iâm sorry that Iâm too fucking selfish to let this go, but I canât. I need you. I need us. Youâre everything good in my life and I know I need to start proving that to you.â
Still, you remained quiet. Your fingers itched to reach out and run your fingers through that slightly greasy, unruly mop of hair, but instead you kept them pinned down at your side as you considered his words. There was no doubt in your mind that he meant them, the desperation on his face said as much, but you had your reservations. Taking your silence in stride, however, Billy simply reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box.
Your heart nearly stopped.
âOh, jesus,â you grumbled, burying your head in your hands. âYou better not be doing what I think youâre fucking doing.â
âOpen the box, Y/N.â
âNo,â you held your hands up. âNot if itâsâŚthat.â
Billy sighed. The muscle in his cheek twitched. âItâs not a fucking engagement ring.â
Somewhat relieved, you continued to stare down at the box in slight disdain. âSo, what is it?â
Billy sighed. âFucking open it and youâll see.â
âBuying the âother womanâ jewelry, Billy?â You shook your head. âYouâre like a walking clichĂŠ at this point.â
âShut-up and open the goddamn box.â Standing up to his full height, he continued to hold the box out towards you and breathed out a quiet laugh when you remained unwavering. âItâs not a fucking bomb, Y/N, open it.â
With a sigh, you snatched the box out of his hand and, rather unceremoniously, opened it up to reveal a key. Not a fancy skeleton key or a charm in the shape of a key but a regular, run of the mill house key. You blinked, mildly surprised. âOkay, Iâll give you a point for creativity with the box,â you pulled the key out and observed it. âBut what is it?â
âItâs a key,â Billy said, shoving his hands into the pockets of his jeans.
âI see that,â a small smile pulled at your lips as you looked across at him. âWhatâs it for?â
âItâs a key to my parentsâ cabin.â
If you were meant to understand the significance, the story was lost on you. Looking back down at the key, you surveyed its tiny ridges briefly before nodding. âAnd whatâs that have to do with me?â
He took a step towards you and grabbed the hand still clutching onto the key. âMy dad doesnât go up there much ever since my mother left and I figure we could both use a place where we can justâŚbe.â His raked his thumbnail along your knuckles. âNo Sid, no anyone. Just you and me.â
You were trying to remain unfazed by the sentiment, to remain icy and cool to the man you were supposed to be pulling away from, but between the softness in those warm brown eyes and the weight of the key still clutched in your hand, you could feel your defenses waning. âYou expect Sid to just not care that youâre disappearing up north every once in a while?â
âIâll make it work,â he shrugged it off. âAnd, to be honest, I donât care what she thinks.â
Your answer came in the form of a long, drawn out sigh. âBilly,â you began, but before you could dive into the rest of your speech, his large hands slid up your arms and neck to cradle your face.
Slowly, he backed you into a nearby desk and traced the apple of your cheek with his thumb. âWe can sneak up there whenever we want. Spend a whole weekend up there, just the two of us. I can worship this fucking body of yours in every square inch of that cabin. I can go into town and hold your fucking hand in public. We can do whatever the hell it is we want to do up there, whenever we want, without worrying about any of our idiot friends seeing us.â
Your pulse quickened at the thought of being able to parade around like a normal couple in a town where not a single soul knew who you were. You swallowed, trying to steady your excitement with a dose of realism. âItâs still not fair to Sidney.â
âFuck Sidney!â Billyâs voice echoed out around the vast, empty classroom, alarming you with just how angry he sounded. His chest heaved with a white-hot rage that you couldnât fully comprehend, and his jaw was wound shut as his nostrils flared with each and every heavy, uneven breath he took. You swallowed hard and watched the man steady his nerves, unsure of your next move. Youâd seen Billy angry before, but that level of emotion was definitely new.
You werenât sure whether to be terrified or turned on by the sudden outburst.
But, just as quickly as it happened, Billyâs eyes slowly opened to reveal those molasses coloured eyes again. âSorry, sweetheart,â he appeased. âBut I canât have her stand in the way of this. I wonât.â
You remained silent as you shimmied on top of the desk that had been poking into your ass for the last few seconds and tried not to focus on the way your body seemed to melt into Billyâs as he stepped in between your legs, still looking at you with all the intensity of the world.
âIf we do this,â you found yourself muttering, âthereâs going to be some ground rules.â
A sense of hope blossomed in Billyâs chest as he vigorously nodded his head. âAnything you want,â sliding his hands up the sides your stomach, he gently held your waist and gave it a small squeeze. âYou name it.â
âWhen we go up to the aforementioned cabin, we go out.â You told him. âWhile Iâm more than happy to blow you in the living room without worrying about your dad walking in, it would be nice to go on an actual fucking date.â
Billy nodded and, with his hands still on your waist, he tried not to focus on the thin cotton of your shirt bunching between his fingers as his thumb danced along your ribcage. There was so little between you in the empty classroom, barely any space as the two of you were practically nose to nose. And between that short little skirt you had on and your pert nipples beneath your thin tank top, it was enough to make his cock twitch inside of his pants. âAnything else?â He asked, his voice husky as he nudged his nose against yours.
âYeah,â you ran your tongue along your now parched lips as you sat with Billy standing between your thighs, holding you in place as his thumb traced agonizingly close to your tit. Were you even breathing? It didnât feel like it. You were wet, too, which made his inhumanly close proximity almost too much to bear. âLock the fucking door this time.â
A roguish grin enveloped his features as he stepped out from between your legs. Crossing the threshold of the classroom in two seconds flat, Billy locked the door and made his way back to you with that same mischievous glimmer in his eye. His eyes were hungry and, as his hands shifted down to your ass, he tugged you even closer to the edge of the desk. Closer to him. With your legs still open and on either side of his hips, you just about died when your clit managed to rub against the zipper of his jeans.
A quiet, low moan tore out of your throat from the sensation.
âAnything else?â He asked, leaning his forehead against yours.
âYeah,â your breathing was ragged as Billyâs slow, methodical fingers, trailed up the side of your stomach. He was being extraordinarily temperate and slow to further tease you but, despite knowing how risky this was, you were putty in his hands. âTouch me.â
His nose brushed against yours again as he shifted his hips just enough for the zipper of his jeans to rub against your clit again. The bastard knew what he was doing.
âThis feel good?â He asked as his hips toiled into you again. Â
You were practically dry fucking against the desk, you could have been caught any second. But, fuck, when he pulled you in a little more and slowly gyrated his jean-clad pelvis against your clit again, you couldnât care less. âMhmm,â you hummed.
Slowly, Billyâs dept fingers slid up from your waist towards your breasts. Raking his thumb against the swollen bud, he leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on the side of your neck.
He knew his jeans were rubbing against your clit and, as he looked down and saw the visible wet patch on your blue thong, he wanted nothing more than to rip them off of you and bury his face in between your legs. âGod, Iâve fucking missed you.â
When his hand squeezed your breast, you arched into his grasp. âI bet you did.â
Billy smirked and rolled your nipples between his fingers through the fabric of your shirt. With every roll of your hips, the strap of your shirt slipped down just enough to expose your breast. Without missing a beat, Billy leaned into your chest and allowed his mouth to consume your nipple, swirling his tongue around it expertly before biting down. You hissed as a combination of both pain and pleasure ripped through your body.
Your fingers curled around the hair along the nape of his neck and gave it a firm tug as is hands held you firmly in place. âFuck, Billyâ you moaned, breathless.
He released your nipple slowly, nipping at it one final time before leaning his forehead against yours again. You wanted like hell to close the distance between you. You wanted to feel his lips on yours. Feel the tickle of his stubble along your upper lip and have that expert tongue brush against yours.
But you also wanted to make him sweat a little. Â
You werenât sure what had come over you as you slid your hand down your torso. Maybe it was adrenaline of being caught or the relief of having Billy in your arms again but as you allowed your fingers to dip beneath the hem of your exposed thong, the look on Billyâs face made it all worth it.
âWhat are you doing?â His Adams apple bobbed up and down as he watched you touch yourself. You were in an awkward angle, but as your finger circled your clit and you watched the bulge in his pants grow, you were coasting high.
âWhatâs it look like Iâm doing?â You hummed, feigning innocence. âWhen I say touch me, I mean it, Billy. Iâm taking matters into my own hands.â You pinched your clit and arched your naked chest into him. âFuck.â
You heard him swear under his breath as his lips ghosted over yours. âYouâre doing my head in, woman,â he growled, sliding his fingers beneath your panties. You gasped when his thumb began to circle your clit. And when he slid two fingers inside of you, you nearly saw stars.
His mouth found yours, mid-moan. Reaching the hand that had just been down the waistband of your shorts, you ran your fingers through his hair as his tongue coaxed yours. Everything about this man was electric. His fingers quickened their pace and before you knew it, you were thrusting into his hand. Placing sloppy kisses down from your mouth and along your jaw, Billy nipped at your ear. âHowâs this for touching you, sweetheart?â He hissed, licking and biting his way across your neck.
Your breathing was rampant as you felt yourself edging closer and closer. âItâs alright,â you teased with a cloudy grin.
âSo stubborn,â he laughed into your neck and curled his fingers so that he hit an area inside you that felt almost primal. The moan he got in return made him bite down on your collarbone. He curled his fingers again and you nearly choked. âYou sure?â
Pulling his hair, you steered his face back to yours and crashed your lips against his. âFuck me.â You mumbled into his mouth.
He applied the smallest bit of pressure to your clit and flicked his fingers one final time, sending you over the cliff. With a long, shaky moan, you bucked your hips uncontrollably as you came into his hand. Every inch of you felt as though it was on fire as Billy made you ride out your orgasm, not for a second easing up on your clit as you writhed beneath him.
âPlay with your tits,â he barked out through hooded eyes.
âYou play with them,â you argued, but the resolve in your voice was gone. You werenât entirely sure if you knew your name at that point. All you could focus on was the feeling of his finger pinching your highly sensitive clit and that was it. Everything else was a blur.
âGod, youâre so fucking stubborn.â
You were so wet and so turned on you could barely think straight. âBilly,â you pleaded, your entire body heating up almost unbearably so. When he ignored you and instead continued his attack on your clit, you whimpered. âI need you to fuck me.â
With a bruising kiss, Billy released your clit and, in seconds flat, tugged his jeans far enough down his hips before slipping inside of you. The moan that escaped your lips was undeniable as he pumped into you. Reaching up, he grabbed your tit and squeezed as he bit down on your exposed neck. It was a sensory overload coming from all angles.
âFuck,â Billyâs hoarse voice was in your ear as he pumped into you. âYou feel so fucking good, Y/N.â He reached for your face and tilted your chin up towards him, meeting you halfway with a sloppy kiss. Moaning into his mouth, you managed lose yourself in that instance.
Gone was the room around you.
Hell, gone was everything up until this point.
All you could focus on was the feeling of Billy inside of you. Biting down on his lip, you tugged it back as he rolled his hips in a way that made you quiver. He was thrusting, hard, in an almost animalistic that made your entire body shake with the velocity of every desperate push. He moved between kissing your lips, to biting them to suckling your neck as he continued to rail into you with all of passion in the world. He was a man, unhinged, and you werenât sure if youâd ever seen him so sexy.
Not surprising in the least, it didnât take him long to come. Youâd riled him up to the point of no return and, as you felt him come inside of you, you all but laughed when his forehead dramatically fell against your own.
For a few minutes, neither of you moved, simply just remained still and firmly pressed against one another. But, as the weight of your current whereabouts slowly dawned on either of you, you both slowly pulled away from each other, both wearing a small smile as you re-dressed yourselves.
Once his pants were done up, Billy stepped into you once again and placed a kiss on your forehead. âCabin this weekend, okay?â
You nodded and hopped down from the desk. âYeah, maybe,â you teased, fixing your skirt.
Billyâs eyebrows rose. âOh, maybe, eh?â
âYeah,â you winked, âIâll think about it.â
âSmart ass,â Billy smirked. âThat mouth of yours is going to get you in trouble one of these days.â
âIâm counting on it.â Once you were both fixed up, you nodded towards his hand which was still slicked with your juices. You laughed. âOops.â
But Billy didnât seem fazed. Instead, your breath hitched in your throat when he raised his hand to his lips and licked your slick clear off, relishing in the taste of it with a knowing smirk on his face. âThis weekend.â He reiterated, driving the point home.
âThis weekend,â you agreed, walking towards the door. Ensuring nobody saw the two of you leave an empty classroom together, you unlocked the door and gave Billy a small, knowing smile. âSee you at lunch, lover boy.â

đ - Our muses dance together at a halloween party { Ruth for Deniz }
fall/autumn starters.
Upholding his usual status of fashionably late, the annual Mikaelson Halloween party was already in full swing when Deniz finally made his entrance. This year he was going full Greek Mythology with an Adonis costume he had put together. Instead of the full toga look, he was sans shirt with a white and gold trim waist wrap, a gold cape, and real gold wrist cuffs and head piece.Â
âAre you pledging a fraternity?â Ulrik teased as he approached his cousins near the drink table and helped himself to some Witchâs Brew. âAlpha Sigma Phi?â
âIs that jealousy Iâm sensing, dear cousin?â He tosses back with his usual smirk. âUpset you canât pull off a Greek God as well as I can? Must be so hard for you lot knowing Iâve been blessed with all the looks in this family.â
âAm I really that transparent?â Ulrik directed at Astrid with an amused smirk like he was asking her opinion before shaking his head at Deniz.
âLike glass.â He tosses back before spotting a certain pirate off on the dance floor. âWell Iâd love to stay and chat but Iâve adoring fans to attend to.â Starting to walk off, he stops just short of passing Astrid and slips something into her hand, whispering, âFor you and your sexy doctor later.â
Pleased with himself, he winks at her and presses a kiss to her cheek. âPlay safe, prima.â Grabbing a second drink, he walks off after that before she could properly express any annoyance toward him.
âAnne Bonny!â Deniz called as he approached Ruth in her costume, looking her over maybe a little too long before she turned around. When she did turn and saw his costume, he did a little spin for her. âImpressive, I know. Not everyone can pull off a good Adonis but this is Persephone approved Iâll have you know.â Smirking, he handed off the second drink in his hand to her. âItâs Witchâs Brew. A mix of raspberries, cranberry juice, ginger ale and of course, lots of vodka. Cheers, querida.â
He taps his glass against hers before downing his and setting the empty down. âCare to Monster Mash with me?â He asked as he received a look for the suggestive tone but then the song itself started up and he just grinned innocently. âWhat? My halo is freshly polished this evening.â He taps the golden Greek headpiece around his head as if it were his halo before offering his hand out to her and pulling her out to a space on the floor.
Fortunately the Monster Mash was a classic Mikaelson Halloween tune so Deniz didnât need to walk her through the dance like with the 20â˛s themed party. She already knew this one and they were quite in sync with each other as they mashed their way through the song; Laughing and singing along the whole time.
When it ended, she made a move to step off the designated dance floor when I Put a Spell On You started up. His hand shot out to grab her wrist as he called, âWait! One more song.â She spun back into him as she turned and their gazes caught; Faces just inches from each other. For probably the first time in his life, he was speechless as he got caught in a moment with her.Â
And before he knew it, he got a bit lost in it and seized the moment as he leaned down to kiss her. It wasnât like the first, which had happened on some dare sheâd been given. This one was electric like a jolt right through him. She didnât slap him or pull away either, she was quite responsive actually.
âI knew you had a thing for me,â he teases when they did finally part. Ruth didnât have a chance to hit him back with the usual banter as they both suddenly registered Ryderâs shouting at them. Had he been there long?
âWhat the hell do you think youâre doing?! Get away from her!â

ATEEZ Reaction To: Catching them off-guard by being naked
Hii, I've noticed your requests are open. And i've been seeing your Ateez reactions recently, which are amazing. :D I just wondered, do you think you could do an Ateez reaction where their S.O. walks into the room naked while they are playing a game, working on music etc? (Kind of like that new Tik tok trend going around atm) x
Guuurl, sorry I waited so long to actually do something about this ask lol, but hopefully this will make you happy :)
Songs Listened To: X by CODE KUNST + LEE HI, FXXK It by BIGBANG, Danteâs Creek by THEY + DEAN, Baby Donât Stop by NCT, Love Talk - Wayv, A Little Death by The Neighborhood
Hongjoong âĄ:
â˘Â This man was straight vibing and your sneaky ass just HAD to do something
⢠âJoong.â
⢠âYeah?â he didnât look up from the small journal, with which he was jotting down lyrics for a future song he was to produce for
â˘Â He kept his eyes trained on the pages
â˘Â And uh-uh, that wouldnât do đ¤
â˘Â You rolled your eyes and waltzed over to the boy, putting a hand on the shoulder of the chair so you could swing him around to face you, an eyebrow raised
⢠âLook at me.â
â˘Â And he sure as hell did dafdsaffwq
â˘Â Face said :O
â˘Â Doesnât matter how many times he sees your nude body, still looks like a kid in a candy store lol
â˘Â To say he was completely distracted would be a huge understatement
â˘Â Hanky panky in his mini studio? Yessir
Seonghwa âĄ:
â˘Â Looking at this gif and listening to a slowed sexy song is gonna kill me istg
â˘Â Also, who let him act like a little hoe in their comeback? Keep your shirt down, mister, itâs not safe
â˘Â Gorl has nothing to do in his sparetime because heâs not too big of a gAMeR, but he does like to play phone games when heâs especially bored
â˘Â Would probably be playing like fuckin uhhhh candy crush or something when you said âlemme do sum a lil crazy đđ
â
â˘Â You were kinda just curious to see what his reaction would be if you showed up witcha tiddies out
â˘Â So you got out the shower and half-assedly threw on a silk robe that Hwa got you for your birthday, not tying it or anything, but rather letting it slip off your damp shoulders while the front sat open and displayed your body for all to see
â˘Â His reaction when you leant against the doorframe and fake pouted?
â˘Â Immediate đ
â˘Â Everday and night heâs gon chase you frfr
⢠âCâmere...,â Heâd mumble, tossing his phone to the sideÂ
â˘Â Level thirty-seven could wait ;)
Yunho âĄ:
â˘Â Playing pc games at home is one of his favorite things to do (Heâs even said so)
â˘Â PC games are his go-to when he gets bored of console
â˘Â So heâs constantly in his lil gaming room so that if youâre ever sleeping, he doesnât wake you up
â˘Â He was on a multiuplayer session of Valorant when you decided to ruin his gaymer grind
â˘Â F in the chat boys
⢠âYunho?â
⢠âYes?â He stops his hastily typed directions to his game buddies in favor of giving you a quick glance from his chair, and has to look over again to make sure he's seeing things right
â˘Â Yeah, he was definitely seeing the pretty rise of your breasts and smoothness of your thighs, revealed from the towel now on the floor, right. Especially the way both of those lovely attributes were becoming larger as you approached him
⢠"W-woah!" He rushes to shield his eyes, though you only giggle and swivel his chair around in order to straddle him, removing his hands from his face
⢠"What? Am I too repulsive to?"
⢠"No! No it's just...," Yunho trails off, letting out a shaky breath and trying his best to not stare so obviously. Literally just paying attention at anything but what you wanted him to
⢠You only grin, tilting his chin to you face you head-on, "It's ok to look, baby. Don't be so shy"
⢠a forgotten game and heated chair sex is what would lead to your surprise
⢠kiss kiss for baby đ
Yeosang âĄ:
⢠We need more Yeosang gifs, this is ridiculous y'all ;(. Also, we're just... Not gonna talk about San on the side đ
⢠Oh oh! And Yeosang getting bolder on stage is my favorite thing
⢠soooo snowboarding
⢠Yeosang said he likes to do that in his free time
⢠He'd just got a new custom board, which the front had lovely baby blue dripping forest face and the meaning of his name painted in black for the back, "Sound Resonating From A High Point."
⢠He was waxing it in the kitchen with it sat atop the island for easier space when he felt your arms slide around his waist, to which he smiled at, still continuing his work
⢠"Hello there," he mused
⢠"Baby, what would you do if I told you I was naked?"
⢠bitch hUH??
⢠He really did not waste time with turning in your hold and IMMEDIATELY looking down to see what you're wearing
⢠He chuckles upon , giving a cat whistle before bending down to set you on top of the counter
⢠"What's this for?"
⢠"Bored," you purse your lips, allowing yourself to lean back on your forearms as you spread your legs, "And you seemed like a good time-passer"
⢠Yeosang hums, falling to his knees easily enough and pulling you towards the edge of the island, then presses an affectionate kiss to your inner thigh
⢠"Fair enough"
San âĄ:
⢠San likes to spiffy up on his English, which is still pretty hard for him even if you assure him that he's doing just fine when he speaks it around your family
⢠That being said, you'll sometimes catch him at the table with a textbook in front of him and a language journal by the side that he uses to write small romanizations
⢠You were particularly bored today. And damn, was San looking good with his messy black hair and shirtless torso. He never really did wear shirts around the house.
⢠"Sannie," You sang from the doorframe, fresh out of the shower and a bit sexually frustrated considering San hadn't touched you for a couple weeks due to your busy schedule
⢠He hummed in acknowledgement, jotting something down in the journal as he alternated between both the book and notebook
⢠You knew he was busy but his English really wasn't bad, so it didn't need to be now. It could wait a bit longer
⢠Sighing, you drop the towel from your body and fling it at San, which makes him jump and pull it from off of his head, looking towards you immediately and gasping
⢠You put a hand on your hip, giggling at how he tries to calm himself down
⢠lol goofy boy
⢠"C'mon, I know you're tired, I can help you relax," you gesture with a finger in a beckoning motion, and like he was already planning on it, he hops up from his seat and follows you back to the bedroom
⢠sorry if this was kinda boring lol, let's just San could have literally any reaction and frankly, this is probably the most tame he would be
Mingi âĄ:
⢠Like Yunho in a lot of ways
⢠He does like to play games (probably PC, too), so you already know he'd be mashing that controller in the living room lol
⢠"Aww man, are you kidding me!?"
⢠Mingi gets shy, especially when it comes to you, so when you decided it'd be a good idea to step in front of the screen while he was playing Zelda with the towel around your body held open, he was a visual representation of keyboard mashing
⢠"WoahâOhmygod-" [insert Minnie baby accidentally throwing his controller in his haste to cover his eyes]
⢠"You don't want me?" You ask, pouting and tilting your head
⢠His response is spreading two of the fingers across his eyes to peek, nodding his head frantically but trying to find the right words so he doesn't make you sad, "You just scared me is all! I don't wanna be rude by looking when you don't want me to or anything..."
⢠He takes his fingers away to hold them out instead, making grabby hands until you smile and crawl into them, in turn, climbing on top of his lap and letting him press his face into the valley between your breasts so he could kiss the skin there while looking at you
⢠"I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong idea," he mumbles, nuzzling his head farther down
⢠"No baby, you're fine," You reassure him with a hand ruffling the strands of his hair
⢠sweet hanky panky alert đ¨ sweet hanky panky alert đ¨
Wooyoung âĄ:
⢠it's the large ass gif of Woo and his ponytail for me
⢠Oh and yeah, I know this doesn't quite fit theme of YOU walking in on them to flash your boobies but you're gonna keep your mouth shut and pretend it does đ
⢠Another gamer.. damn this is getting repetitive
⢠hmmm
⢠Dance practice it is! đ
⢠Woo doesn't like repeatedly practicing the same moves over and over again, but he did like the progress he made with each re-do, so he supposes he'll bear with the exhaustion
⢠Well.. obviously not now, because he's just walking through the bedroom door when he finally registers that you're sitting on the bed, lying on your stomach and scrolling through your phone with a leg raising your body go the side
⢠You snap your head to look at him, "Ah, there you are," you grin, pushing yourself up to a sitting position, "Thought you were gonna come home late again"
⢠Wooyoung let's out a snort as he closes the door behind him and drops his dance bag to the side, already taking his inky black hair out of the ponytail it was previously in and shaking it loose
⢠"What a nice surprise"
Jongho âĄ:
⢠No thoughts, only buff babie
⢠And how he sung "sex in the morning baby" with a scary amount of aggression
⢠lol it makes sense that sweetie likes to play racing games on his computer
⢠LITerally so precious ;(
⢠Same trope (yes I'm a disappointment); Jongie plopped onto his lil chair with a fluffy blanket around his shoulders and headphones on that cute little head of his
⢠He said "I love playing car games, vroom vroom y'all đ¤"
⢠And you said "I love playing surprise games, yes yes đ"
⢠Gorl, when I tell you he squeaked out of surprise at how you turned his chair around to face you ;(
⢠"Uhh... Am I- Am I supposed to be looking?" He stammers, eyebrows raised and eyes locked on your bare front
⢠"By all means, baby," you purr, shaking your head with a familiar fondness at the boy in awe before you
⢠Just like Joong, he never tires of seeing you naked. He loves looking at you when you're nude, because it's when he can appreciate all aspects of you
⢠"Hang on, let me pause the game, I'll meet you in the bedroom"
⢠Getting intimate with Jongho is quite easy. He'll pretty much always say yes to sex, and it's pretty casual when you hint at it

Riding On
Ch21: Her Hooves Set The Beat, My Heart Sang The Song
Summary: Thereâs a feel good factor at the Gallagher-Adlerâs as Alex hits another milestone, but their happy little bubble his shattered with some bad news at the stables, and Fliss is forced to say a heart-breaking goodbyeâŚ
Warnings: Bad language, 18+, animal death.
Pairing:Â Frank Adler x OFC Fliss Gallagher
A/N:Â So, for those of you who donât know, Heidi was actually real. She was my beloved horse of a lifetime who I lost in July 2018 to complications associated with old age. At 28 I she had a good life, and for the 20 years I had her she gave me everything. Writing this brought back a lot of memories and was quite therapeutic in a way, but if anyone wants to skip over it for fear of being triggered, I wonât be offended.
Disclaimer: This is a pure work of fiction and classified as 18+. Please respect this and do not read if you are underage. I do not own any characters in this series bar Fliss Gallagher and the other OCs. By reading beyond this point you understand and accept the terms of this disclaimer.

Chapter 20
 April 2020
âGo away!â Mary laughed, pushing Flissâ arm as she tried to peek over at what she was writing on the piece of card upon which sheâd been designing the Wedding Invitations. âYou can see when Iâm done!â
Fliss chuckled and backed away, hands raised, palms up.
âOkay, okay.â She walked backwards a few steps before she turned and her eyes fell on Alex who was in his pack and play loudly banging some coloured blocks together. He looked up at her and gave a huge smile before he shuffled a little to the edge of his pen and reached up, curling his hands onto the sides. As Fliss watched, he tried to pull himself up into a standing position but only got so far before he landed on his butt, and waved his arms and legs shouting something in, what Frank called Bean-Babble. Fliss grinned and moved to pick him up.
âNot quite mastered that yet have you, baby?â She smiled, kissing his cheek.
Alex let out another loud squeal of contentment as he perched on her hip and she made her way over to the kitchen area. There, she settled him in his high chair and headed into the fridge to grab him an apple. Since he had started eating solids it had fast become apparent that he was particularly partial to the fruit, something Frank directly attributed to the fact that Fliss had eaten so many of them when she was pregnant thanks to her craving. Fliss carefully chopped the fruit into large pieces before she placed them down on the tray of his chair, kissing his soft hair again as Alex grabbed a slice in his hand and promptly jabbed it in his mouth, making appreciative noises.
Happy that he was content, Fliss then turned her attention to their dinner. She soon had the base of the cream and garlic sauce for the seafood linguini simmering nicely in the pan so she then turned her attention to shelling and de-veining the fresh, king prawns Frank had brought home the night before, along with chopping up the squid and cleaning the mussels before she turned her head and looked over to the table across the large family room.
âMary, do you want mussels in yours?â
âNo, they taste like snot.â Came the simple response.
âYou know what snot tastes like?â Fliss pulled a face. âGross.â
Mary didnât reply, her hand was busy scribbling on the paper. Fliss shrugged and placed some of the sauce into a separate pan before she dropped some of the seafood through to cook, before pulling a cod and mash potato puree out for Alex for his dinner. Whilst that was in the microwave, she tossed Maryâs sauce through some of the pasta, before sprinkling over a little bit of parmesan and setting it down on the breakfast bar.
âMary, dinner.â
Mary hopped down from the table and made her way over to the counter. With a thanks to Fliss she tucked in as Fliss smiled and sat next to her, feeding Alex.
âWhat time is Dad home?â Mary asked.
âIâm actually expecting him any time now.â Fliss glanced at the clock. âHe has no meetings tonight so he shouldnât be too long. Did you want him for something? I can call him.â
âNo, I was just curious.â Mary swallowed her mouthful of food. âDo you mind if I donât ride tonight?â
âNo, of course not.â Fliss gave Alex another spoonful of his dinner before she turned to Mary. âIs everything ok, Stack? Itâs not like you to pass up an opportunity to ride.â
âWell, I thought I could spend some time with Frank.â She shrugged. âI havenât seen him properly this week.â
âIâm sure heâd appreciate that.â Fliss smiled, giving Alex more food.
âJust figured if youâre at the stables and Alex is in bed, itâll just be the two of us. No offense.â
âNone taken.â Fliss chuckled, as Mary grinned and continued to eat. And she meant it. Over the past two weeks or so, Frank and Alanâs son had decided to expand a little and as such had been meeting with potential new suppliers, often working until later in the night, something Fliss knew was hard on him because it meant his time with the kids had really been limited to a quick hour over breakfast, the morning school and crèche drop offs and weekends. Fliss had assured him that the kids were fine, she was fine, and reminded him that he was doing this for the family, for their future but it didnât stop him feeling guilty.
It was kind of ironic, when she thought about it. As sheâd been expecting to feel the same guilt after going back to work full time but as she was self-employed, sheâd been able to work her time-table quite well around the kids. Sheâd taken on another stable hand to help with the day to day chores leaving her free to teach more freelance in the area and school horses when they came to her for training. Joanne was now taking the group lessons completely, having passed her final teaching exams earlier that year, and Alex had settled really well into his day care, going two days a week to the centre round the corner from Maryâs school which had come recommended by Bonnieâs sister. The other two days a week Verity (and nine times outta ten Bill)Â came look after him or take him out, meaning on those days Fliss worked later- scheduling in evening lessons for clients as Verity would sort the kids dinner before Frank got home, and then on Friday, Fliss did her paperwork so Alex stayed with her . It was busy, and often required military planning as to who was picking which child up and when, but they worked it well, and Fliss had been very surprised at how easily they had picked it all up.
They continued chatting, and just as Mary had polished off her desert, Thor gave a little woof and padded to the back door as it opened and they heard Frank giving his usual jokey greeting.
âThe boss is home.â
âYeah I know, she made dinner.â Mary shot back and Fliss laughed, giving her a hi-five.
Frank walked into the main room and smiled at them both, giving Fliss a quick kiss before he ruffled Maryâs hair as she shoved him away, rolling her eyes, jumping off the stool to escape him.
âGood day?â He asked, and Fliss nodded.
âYeah, not bad. You?â
âBusy, but productive. We got the final Price Lists negotiated soâŚâ he trailed off, nodding to Alex who was smiling at him. âLooks like he enjoyed dinner.â
âSo did Mary.â Fliss mused, nodding to the empty place on the side. âShe ate a full dish of linguini and a massive piece of Mumâs chocolate cake. Think sheâs going through another growth spurt.â
âGreat, more clothes to buy.â
Fliss chuckled as she fed Alex the last of his peach and apple puree before she reached for a baby wipe and scrubbed his face and hands clean, much to the babyâs annoyance. She stood up to clear away his dish, leaving the spoon in Alexâs hand as he was busy banging it against the tray of his chair. Frank sat down on the stool sheâd vacated, kissing Alexâs head. .
âHey, Pal. Meet any hot girls today at crèche?â He asked. Alex shrieked in response, banging the spoon harder and Frank nodded. âOh really? Well, you play it cool and sheâll be putty in your hands.â
âLike I was in yours?â Fliss asked, turning to face him and Frank grinned as he settled on the stool.
âThink we both know it was the other way round.â
âDonât you forget it.â She smirked a little.
âLike Iâd have a chance.â Frank winked at her and Fliss smiled.
âDo you want your dinner now or-â
âOh, can I show you the invitation first?â Mary suddenly piped up from across the room and Fliss nodded.
âSure.â
She jumped off the table at the chair and approached them, placing the card on the breakfast bar in front of Frank. Fliss stood behind Frank, her hands sliding round his shoulders as she kissed his cheek, both of them glancing down at the design Mary had come up with.Â
The front was a simple square piece of card. Across the top Mary had cut letters out of a magazine to spell out the words âWEâRE GETTING MARRIEDâ and underneath it sheâd stuck a copy of a photo of the four of them which had clearly been taken at Bill and Verityâs a few weeks ago. Mary and Alex were both looking at the camera, whereas Frank and Fliss were both laughing as they looked at each other as Frank held Alex, the babyâs back to his chest, supporting under his butt with one arm, the other held across his front.
âWhere did you get that?â Frank asked, grinning as he looked at it.
âPoppa Bill.â Mary looked at him. âHe said it was like the five thousandth attempt at trying to get us all to look at the camera.â
âThat was Frankâs fault.â Fliss laughed, âHe kept nipping my ass.â
Frank shrugged, before Fliss spotted one of his arms snaking backwards, blatantly intending on doing the same and she slapped his hand, making him give a dirty chuckle as he pulled it away.
âTurn it over!â Mary urged. Frank obliged and they both smiled instantly at the back. It was written in Maryâs untidy writing, in bright multi-coloured felt tip.
âOh Mary, this is just what I wanted!â Fliss grinned. âFor it to look bright and unique.â
âYou havenât read it yet.â She looked up at Fliss rolling her eyes, but before she could comment Frank started to laugh as he had and his chuckles continued as Fliss read the words out-loud.
âMary and Alex Adler would like to invite you to their Mom and Dadâs wedding.â Fliss took a deep breath at the word, looking at Mary who gave her a small smile. Whilst Mary had referred to Fliss when talking to other people as her mom, sheâd never actually used the word directly to Fliss yet. But, now wasnât the time to dig into that. Fliss cleared her throat and read on âFrank and Fliss met at the stables. Frank was smitten, Fliss was too. But they were too dumb to admit it straight away. And then Frank took her sailing (not driving) on a speedboat. They kissed, made a baby and now itâs time for a party. (And a wedding too).â
Fliss burst out laughing, as Frank tried to gain enough control to read the final bit at the bottom, which was situated underneath the details of time and venues, before it went on to state their address.
âRSVP to Mary (not Alex, because he canât read!)â He managed to wheeze out, wiping at his eyes. âOh, Stack, youâre killing me.â
âYou like it?â She grinned and Frank nodded.
âMary.â Flissâ laughter died down as she took a deep breath. âItâs absolutely perfect!â
Once they had finished laughing at Maryâs Invitation Prototype, Fliss and Frank ate dinner together, Mary chatting away to the pair of them as she sat at the end of the breakfast bar, sipping a milkshake, informing them both about her day, before Frank took Alex to get him bathed and changed into his pyjamas.
âThis bath is supposed to be for you.â Frank grumbled as Alex enthusiastically splashed at the water with his little hands, those little babbling noises emitting from his mouth as he glanced up at Frank with his big blue eyes, making another sound that could almost have been interpreted as a question. Which, maybe it was. âYou heard me.â Frank looked at him. Alex studied his dad for a second before continuing with his splashing, laughing loudly as he tossed a plastic boat to the end of the tub before he stretched towards it, then realising he couldnât reach the toy, promptly burst into tears.
âSeriously, Pal?â Frank rolled his eyes, stretching his right hand over to retrieve the precious item. As soon as he passed it back, the over the top tears stopped and Frank raised an eyebrow. âIf you wanted it so badly why did you throw it away in the first place?â
Alex responded with another noise, this one a gurgle and Frank nodded.
âOkay, understood.â
At that Alex looked at him, cocking his head to one side, making another puzzled noise and tossed the boat this time over the side of the bath, a grin spreading across his face as he studied his dad. Frank arched an eyebrow. âYou know, just because I love you doesnât mean I sign up for this whole throw and fetch shit you got going on.â He picked up the toy and tossed it back into the water. âThatâs Thorâs job.â
âYou know, if his first word comes out a swear, youâre in deep trouble.â Fliss arched an eyebrow as Frank turned his head over his shoulder to look at her as she stood in the bathroom doorway. At the sight of his Mumma, Alex gave a huge grin and let out another gabble of noises.
âThere are worst things it could be.â Frank shrugged, looking back at him.
âLike what?â
âTrump.â Frank deadpanned and Fliss let out a chuckle as once more the plastic boat came out of the tub onto the floor.
âRight, I think play-time is done pal.â Frank looked at Alex, who glanced up at him as he made sure to keep one hand behind his sonâs back whilst reaching for his little hooded towel, which was patterned with tiny little ducks. âCome on.â No sooner had he lifted Alex out of the tub, the eight month old started to protest, dramatically, screams once more hitting Frankâs ears. âOh, hushâŚâ Frank chuckled as he lay him down on the towel before wrapping him in it and picking him up, rising to a stand and gently jiggling the now hysterical baby up and down.
âAnyone would think weâre tryinâa kill him, not simply dry him off after heâs spent fifteen minutes in the bath.â Frank rolled his eyes, an amused expression on his face at Alexâs dramatics.
âWell, heâs a right little water baby, aint you Bean?â Fliss leaned over to kiss Alexâs head as his cries suddenly died down as he had become instantly distracted with the buttons on Frankâs shirt. He made a little âooohâ of approval, his tiny fingers reaching to the ones near the collar. âHa, look at that, heâs easily distracted, just like his daddy.â
âYeah, well, I wonât deny, I quite like undoing your buttons.â Frank teased, dropping a kiss to her mouth. âShall I dress him or do you wanna do it?â
Fliss took a deep breath, of course she wanted to dress him, she wanted to do everything for her baby, but she also knew that Frank had been out of the house early every morning and this was the first evening since Monday heâd made it home before bath time. With a smile she shook her head. âIt's okay, you can do it. Iâll clean up in here.â
âLeave it, Iâll do it later.â
âIt wonât take me five minutes. Then once Iâm done and heâs settled, Iâll head over to the yard so I can ride and finish off. I wonât be too long, just an hour or so.â
âThen we got some us time?â Frank asked, almost pleaded and she smiled.
âThen we got some us time.â
âPerfect.â Frank gave her a soft smile before he kissed her again and carried Alex into the nursery. Before long heâd managed to wrestle a very wriggly baby into a clean diaper, a fresh romper suit and headed downstairs. Mary was now sat on the couch, her eyes glued to something on the TV as Fliss was warming Alexâs bottle up.
âYou going with Fliss, Stack?â
No answer. With a raised brow he turned to look at Fliss who was biting her lip, trying not to laugh as he switched his attention back to Mary.
âEarth to Mary.â
With a groan she looked at him. âWhat?â
âLess of the attitude.â Frank looked at her. âI asked if you were going to ride?â
âOh, ermâŚâ She hesitated and Fliss chuckled.
âShe wants to stay here and spend some time with you.â She smiled as Frank looked at her, then to Mary.
âWow, me over Monty, Iâm flattered.â He smirked. Mary rolled her eyes.
âDonât get used to it, itâs only because Iâve not seen you properly this week to hang out.â
Frank snorted before he sighed. âI know, Iâm sorry. It wonât be forever.â
âItâs fine.â Mary shrugged, her eyes back on the TV. âNot like Iâm neglected, is it?â
âGood to know you feel that way.â Frank nodded seriously, before he caught Flissâ eye and she gave him a wink.
He placed Alex down on the play mat in front of the TV and within seconds the baby had flipped himself over and pushed up onto his hands, rocking back a little onto his knees, emitting more excited noises.
âMary, Iâm just gonna grab a drink.â Frank looked at the Alex, before he turned to Mary. âKeep your eye on your brother will you?â
âSure.â She shrugged, her attention now completely on the baby as she dropped onto the floor and shuffled over to him, talking to him as she did so.
Frank watched for a moment, giving a silent groan as Alex flopped gently down face first onto the mat.
âOopsie!â Mary grinned, and Frank braced himself for the dramatic screams, but they never came as this time, Alex managed to right himself and roll back over onto his back, giving Mary an excited grin and a loud shriek as Mary waggled one of the toys from the baby gym over the top of him.
Satisfied they were okay, Frank headed into the kitchen where Fliss was busy finishing off the lunches for the next morning, dropping a kiss to her cheek as he reached into the fridge, grabbing a beer.
âYou wanna do bedtime as youâve not had chance this week?â Fliss asked, nodding to Alexâs bottle where it stood in the jug of boiling water.
âHeâs my son, course I wanna.â Frank frowned as he looked at her, flipping the top off his beer. âYou know, itâs not like Iâve been working late on purpose, Fliss.â
âThatâs not what I meant.â Fliss narrowed her eyes at him as he took a long pull of his drink. âAnd you know it. So less of the shitty tone, thank you!â
âSorry, Honey.â Frank sighed, dropping a kiss to her lips. âJust, well, I didnât think Mary would have bothered as much as she had.â
âSheâs fine.â Fliss shook her head. âAnd she isnât bothered as such, she just wants to get you to herself for a little while. I mean, letâs face it, how often does she get chance to do that now?â
âTrue.â Frank nodded. âMaybe I should take her out on Saturday somewhere, just the two of us. Would you mind?â
âNo, course not.â She shook her head. âI can take Alex down to the beach with Bonnie. You can always join us later on.â
âYeah.â Frank nodded. âSounds good.â
âAnd tonight, why donât you spend a bit of time in the pool before she showers?â Fliss suggested, as she slid her hands up round his neck. âThen maybe when I get back, me and you could-â
But whatever filthy water-based shenanigans she was about to suggest, Frank never found out, as at that moment Mary let out a yell.
âOh my God! Alex is crawling, quick!â
In a flash the parents rushed over to where Mary was sat at one side of the play-mat, waving Alexâs huge stuffed elephant at him, as he unsteadily made his way over to her, one hand and knee moving at a time.
âFrank, quick!â Fliss nudged him as she dropped to her knees behind Alex, her hands settling either side of his little body, getting ready to catch him if she needed to. Â
âI got itâŚâ Frank muttered, as he crouched next to Mary, his phone out. âAlex, buddy, you reckon you can make it all this way to Daddy, huh?â
Another few little movements later, Flissâ sharp eyes saw the babyâs arms beginning to wobble and, just as they gave way she grabbed him and pulled him backwards, swinging him up and pressing her to his chest, smothering his face in kisses.
âMy clever little man!â She beamed as Alex laughed, grabbing at her hair as she kissed him. âOh my baby, youâre getting so big!â
Alex clearly decided that his crawling efforts were done for the day as he made no attempt try again as Fliss held him in position on the mat. With a shrug, she gently placed him on his back where he began to grab once more at the toys hanging over him.
âObviously had enough excitement for one night.â Frank chuckled as he reached over and tickled the babyâs belly, drawing a gaggle of laughter from him.
âIâm so glad we all got to see it.â Fliss beamed round at them both and Mary nodded enthusiastically. âRightâŚâ She rose to her feet. âIâm going to go ride and finish off. Iâll be back in an hour, hour and a half.â
Once she was gone, Frank turned to Mary. âFancy playing in the pool for a bit before bed?â
âErrr, yeah!â
âOkay, well give me half an hour or so to get him down and then weâll head out. I wanna see if you can master a back flip this time instead of a front one.â
***** Alex went down, as usual, with minimum fuss and once Frank was happy he was settled he changed into his swim shorts and headed downstairs. Grabbing the baby monitor screen from the side in the kitchen, he and Mary headed out to the pool, Mary wasting no time in cannon-balling straight in. Not one to shy down from a challenge, when Mary told him to beat her splash, he did just that. The two of them enjoyed a fun filled forty minutes or so, racing one another (Frank let Mary win a few, but not all) play fighting, diving and generally larking around as the sun dipped behind the eye-line of the fence and the lights in the pool kicked in, reflecting against the bright blue tiles which lined it.
Frank climbed out of the pool to check the time on his phone, and realising it was now almost eight, he told Mary it was time to get out. She protested, but he shot her a no-nonsense stare and with a loud groan about how unfair life was, she climbed out and Frank wrapped her in a towel before giving her a drink of water and then packing her off upstairs for a shower, promising her she could read in bed before lights off at nine.
He showered himself, pulling on a pair of sweats and a well-worn light blue T-Shirt, and by the time he had finished and headed across the landing to tuck Mary in, she was already out for the count. With a smile, he placed her book down on her night stand, gently kissed her head and then flicked off the lamp before he moved to the next room to check on Alex. He was also fast asleep.
He headed back downstairs, grabbed another beer and settled in front of the TV, giving a snort as he glanced at the time. It was now ten past nine. So much for Fliss being just an hour. No doubt sheâd ended up chatting to one of the clients about something, as usual, which had delayed her locking up. Firing her a good humoured, sarcastic text about how he should grow a mane, tail and two extra legs so he could get a look in, he tossed the phone down onto the coffee table, frowning as it instantly began to light up. It was Fliss.
âHey, Honey, I was only joking, take as-â
âFrank, thereâs something wrong with Heidi.â She cut him off, her voice cracking. âSheâs got colic and itâs bad. I called the Vet and heâs on his way but she wonât get up. I canât get her on her feet to try and walk her round sheâs justâŚâ
Frank took a deep breath, his stomach falling as he digested her words. He wasnât clued up on a lot of horse lingo or issues, but he knew colic was fatal to some horses, depending on the severity. And even without the fact that Fliss was clearly concerned, he knew that with Heidi being as old as she was this wasnât good.
âHow long is the Vet going to be?â he asked.
âThey said about half an hour, heâs on his way but as itâs night itâs an emergency call so heâs coming from home.â She took a deep breath. âFrank, Iâm gonna lose her.â
âLook, you donât know that for sure.â He placated her gently as he stood up from the sofa. âListen, let me grab the kids and weâll come over.â
âFrank, theyâre sleeping.â She began to protest, âAnd Mary will be so upset to see Heidi like this, and if the vet has to put her to sleep thenâŚâ
âThen sheâll be mad as hell she didnât get to say goodbye.â Frank reasoned as he made his way into the hallway. âI donât want you over there on your own, sweetheart. Not ifâŚâ
There was a pause. âI donât want to do it on my own either.â She whispered and he took a deep breath as he headed up the stairs, taking the steps two at a time.
âAnd you donât hafta.â He replied. âGive me five minutes. Do you need anything else?â
âNo, I got everything here.â
âOkay.â He nodded, pausing outside Maryâs bedroom. âWeâll be with you in five.â
She sniffed. âThank you.â
Frank stuck his phone in the pocket of his sweats before he opened Maryâs door and headed over to her bed. Standing on the bottom rung of the ladder of the cabin he gently leaned over. She was led, facing away from him, face snuggled into her pillow as Fred lay by her side. He raised his head questioningly at Frank as he softly brushed Maryâs hair off her cheek, pressing a kiss to her face.
âStack, heyâŚcome on, wake up.â Mary gave a groan as she pulled her covers up further, her eyes still closed. Frank spoke a little louder, his hand softly shaking her shoulder. âMary, sweetheart, I need you to wake up, come on.â
She stirred a little, before she rolled onto her back, blinking sleepily at him before she frowned.
âFrank, itâs still dark!â She glared at him and he bit back the smirk at the fact sheâd reverted to Frank, not Dad. Something she always did when she felt he was being a jerk.
âI know you havenât been asleep long, but Fliss is at the yard and we need to go be with her. Heidi isnât well, the vet is on his way.â
At that she sat up, all tiredness evaporating from her system. âWhatâs wrong with her?â
âItâs colic, Sweetie.â Frank answered gently. âBut Fliss is on her own, so I need you to get dressed whilst I grab Alex, okay?â
âOkay.â She nodded, and Frank smiled softly before he turned and headed over to the nursery which was quiet bar the soft sounds of Alexâs little baby snores. In the stream of light that illuminated the room from the landing, he could see his son sleeping, halfway down the crib, head tilted to the side, the pair of them meticulous in the way they set him down at night. He crossed the room and gently picked Alex up out of the crib, the baby giving a little sigh as he did so but other-wise remaining asleep. He grabbed a little fleece blanket and as he made his way back out into the hallway, Mary appeared in her jeans and a red t-shirt. Â
âWhy donât you bring your laptop or something, just in case weâre there for a while and you get bored?â Frank asked. âYou can sit in the office with Alex.â
âItâs downstairs.â She answered. âIâll go grab it.â
They headed down stairs and Frank settled Alex in his stroller which was by the kitchen door as Mary grabbed her stuff. Frank slipped his feet into his sneakers as Mary stuffed on her boots and he wandered into the laundry room and found a warm top for them each.
âFrank itâs like almost summer outside.â Mary looked at him, âItâs hot!â
âIâm well aware of the climate, thanks.â He looked at her, stashing the hooded tops and cardigan on the underneath space of the stroller, before he made sure that Alexâs little blanket was set around his legs. âBut it might get a little breezy if weâre there later.â
Truth be told he had no idea why he was taking them, other than the fact it felt like something he should do even though it was still in the low 70s at night. He was a little lost, this was something heâd never dealt with before, and there was a sick feeling in his stomach that it wasnât going to end well. But, there was no point worrying about it until they knew what they were dealing with. He had to be strong, be calm. Taking a deep breath he looked at Mary and nodded. âGet the door, Stack.â
By the time they had reached the Yard, Fliss had managed to coax Heidi to her feet. As Frank and Mary walked round the side of the barn Fliss was heading to the paddock, Heidi trudging behind her.
âHey.â Frank looked at her, and she gave him a tight smile, not stopping.
âIâm sorry, but if I stop sheâllâŚâ She began to explain but Frank waved her away.
âDo what you gotta do.â He watched as she cast a look over her shoulder. âIâll settle these two in the office and then Iâll be out.â
After doing just that, instructing Mary to keep an eye on Alex and promising her he would come get her once they knew what was going on, he wandered back to the paddock and without a word simply took Fliss' hand in his as she continued walking Heidi. Frank could hear the horse was making grunting noises and every so often tried to stop and kick at her stomach, but Fliss kept walking, her face set. She didnât say much, making a little small talk, but Frank simply stayed by her side as every so often they changed direction.
âWhere the hell is this vet?â Fliss gave an exasperated sigh and looked around, almost as if she expected to see him.
âItâs not been that long yet, Sweetheart.â Frank soothed her.
âWell it feels like forever.â
Frank kissed her head as they continued walking and about five minutes later a dark blue Hyundai pulled up the drive and Fliss let out a sigh of relief as she saw it was Scott, their usual vet and not some random on-call one. She led Heidi onto the main area of the yard, the horse rapidly becoming even more agitated. Fliss gently ran her hand down her neck, as she turned to Scott and gave him a quick low down and he nodded, patting Heidi.
âOkay old girl, letâs see whatâs going onâŚâ Scott hooked the stethoscope into his ears and moved to listen to her belly, taking a deep breath as he looked at Fliss. âYeah, thereâs absolutely no gut noise at all. Itâs definitely colic, but you know that alreadyâŚâ he unhooked the ear pieces, leaving the item hanging around his neck before he moved to her head and examined her nose to get a look at the mucas membrane colour, then did a quick check on her gums which Frank noticed were pale instead of the usual pink.
âSheâs in shock.â Fliss sniffed a little, noticing the change in colour and Scott wrinkled his nose.
âNot uncommon if sheâs in a bit of pain.â He stood back. âOkay, Iâm going to give her an anti-spasmodic and some pain relief which should help, and a mild sedative so I can do an internal examination.â
âYeah, whatever you need to do.â Fliss nodded as Scott turned to head back to his car to prep what he needed.
âInternal examination?â Frank looked at Fliss, âLike, is heâŚâ He mimed fisting something and despite herself, Fliss let out a snort of laughter.
âThatâs exactly what heâs gonna do.â She shook her head as she gently stroked Heidiâs face, the mare giving another grunt and huff as she butted Fliss out of the way a little. âStill a sassbag, eh girl?â
âLike her mom.â Frank looked at Fliss and she shrugged, turning over her shoulder as the vet approached, two large syringes in his hand.
âLook, can you call my mum and dad?â Fliss looked at Frank. âI donât thinkâŚwell, Dad especially is going to want to be here ifâŚâ
âSure.â Frank nodded and turned away, obligingly.
He wandered back into the office, Bill who answered the phone instantly asked him what was going on and when he explained he simply stated they would be there as soon as they could be and hung up.
âIs she going to be okay?â Mary asked, as Frank checked on Alex where he was still sleeping in his stroller.
âI honestly donât know Stack, but as soon as I do Iâll tell you okay?â
âOkay.â
âYouâre doing a good job in here, watching him.â
âDonât patronise me, Dad.â She rolled her eyes. âHeâs asleep, and Iâm reading. Not like itâs hard.â
Frank blinked, before he gave a little scoff and turned to head back onto the yard.
The Vet was just finishing giving Heidi the first jab and he gently rubbed the horseâs neck and then nodded to Fliss.
âOkay so thatâs the pain relief and anti-spasmodic administered. Take her back in the paddock and give her another couple of minutesâ walk round whilst it kicks in.â
Fliss nodded and led the horse away, waving off Frankâs offer to come with her, Thor trotting behind.
âWhatâs the chances, Scott?â Frank turned to the man and he pulled a face.
âItâs hard to say.â He sighed. âIf she was younger Iâd be optimistic but with horses that age, well everything like this can be a risk. If this doesnât work then Iâll know more after Iâve done an internal.â
To their despair it didnât work, and if anything after another minute of walking around Heidi had gotten even worse and her bright, chestnut coat was now damp with sweat, her chest area and parts of her chest covered in a thin sheen of white foam.
âScott, sheâs in agony.â Fliss sniffed as Frank curled an arm round her.
âThe sedative will help more with the pain.â Scott assured Fliss, pulling out the second needle which he administered into the horses neck. âAtta girl. Weâll give that a minute to work.â
As Scott snapped on a pair of rubber gloves, Frank and Fliss both turned to look as they heard another car heading up the gravel driveway onto the yard. Verity and Bill appeared shortly after, exchanging a look before Bill headed straight to Heidi, giving her a soft stroke on the nose before Verity did the same.
âYou okay, Titch?â Bill asked, dropping a kiss to her head and she swallowed.
âNot really.â Her eyes flicked to Scott as he moved behind Heidi whose head was now slumped down, resting on Flissâ shoulder as the sedative had kicked in. No one spoke for a moment, before they all heard a heavy sigh from Scott as he pulled his arm back and shook his head.
âIâm sorry, Fliss.â He sighed, and immediately her face crumpled and she took a deep breath.
âDonât say it, please.â She begged, her chest tightening painfully as her voice cracked.
âHer gutâs twisted. The only option is surgery, but given her age and the stress that would put on her heartâŚâ
He trailed off as Fliss shook her head, wiping her nose on the back of her sleeve. âIâm not putting her through that.â She whispered, âItâs not fair. Sheâs too old.â
âIn that case then, well, you know what Iâm gonna say.â Scott dropped his head as Frank softly placed his hands between Fliss shoulder blades as she nodded and took a deep breath âI really am so sorry.â
âIt isnât your fault.â Fliss shook her head, sniffing loudly. âI donât want her in pain longer than she needs to be. Can weâŚcan we get on with it, please?â
The Vet nodded. âI wonât be able to arrange for her body to be collected until the morning.â He looked at Fliss who took a shuddering breath, more tears rolling down her face. âSo errr, where do you want toâŚ.â
âWhy donât you use the barn at the back?â Bill cut in gently. âI can move the tractor out for the night. Thereâs enough room for her to go down peacefully and she can stay in there until someone can collect her.â
âYeah, itâs clean in there and a soft landing for whenâŚâ Fliss took a deep breath before she began to cry as she pressed her face into her beloved horseâs neck, her shoulders shaking as Frank gently rubbed at her back.
âThe kids are in the office.â He turned to Bill and Verity, âMaryâs gonnaâŚâ
âWeâll sort it.â Verity assured him. âIâll take Alex back to the house.â She turned to Fliss and gave her arm a gently squeeze before she gently scratched at Heidiâs wither, her head bowing as she walked away.
The next five minutes passed in a blur for Fliss, and somehow she found herself in the barn at the back, as she led Heidi in, the mare following her faithfully.
âDo you want another couple of minutes?â Scott asked kindly.
âJust one, for us all to say goodbye.â Fliss nodded, as she stroked down Heidiâs nose, the tears pouring down her face. She turned to Mary who was stood with Frank, her eyes wet and Frank picked her up, carrying her over as the family crowded round.
âGoodbye, Heidi.â Mary sniffed, pressing a kiss to her nose as Frank gently gave the horse a scratch on the neck. âFrank says we all end up in the same place eventually, so weâll see you again.â
At that Fliss let out a loud sob and clamped her hand over her face as she broke down. Bill wiped at his eyes as he dropped his arm round his daughter.
âDo you remember when we went to see her before we bought her?â He asked and Fliss let out a choked laugh. âShe was in that field, and she came straight over, but so did that big black horseâŚâ
âAnd she kicked it.â Fliss laughed. âThen she bit Steve. Thatâs why I picked her.â
At that Frank let out a soft chuckle.
âYeah, he held a grudge about that, still does.â Bill smiled softly. âGod, you had some moments with her. Falls, disagreements, battles of wills, but you got there in the end.â
âSheâs been amazing.â Fliss smiled, pressing her nose to Heidiâs. âTurned herself inside out to please me. The best horse I could ever have had.â
Bill smiled, before he reached up and stroked Heidiâs face. âNight, old girl.â
At that he stepped back a little, the three of them plus the vet giving Fliss a moment alone with her old faithful.
âDadâs right.â She smiled, her hand stoking Heidiâs nose, âYou were an asshole for the first four months but, I knew youâd be special, I just had to get your trust. You gave me everything, baby girl, and Iâll never forget you. Iâm gonna miss you so much. Your stupid temper tantrums if I donât pay you enough attention, the fact you rule the pasturesâŚâ the tears poured freely down Flissâ face as she took a shuddering breath, pressing her head to Heidiâs, taking a deep breath. âSleep well.â
At that she turned to Scott and nodded, and he stepped forward.
âOkay, youâve seen this before, right?â
âYeah.â Fliss nodded, âBut Mary hasnât soâŚâ
âRight, so, Mary, Iâm gonna give her the first shot and thatâs gonna knock her out pretty much, sheâs likely to rock back and sit down like a dog before she flops sideways so, be prepared okay.â
âKayâŚâ Mary spoke in a quiet voice from where she stood in front of Frank. He gently placed his hands on her shoulders and bent down.
âYou sure you wanna watch this?â
Mary nodded. âYeah. Heidi doesnât know whatâs going on. She should have her family here.â
Frank smiled, pressed a kiss to the top of her head and stood up, his hands remaining where they were as Bill gently strode forward and grabbed Thorâs collar, removing him from the barn and out of the way.
Within seconds of Scott administering the first injection, Heidi did just as Scott said. Fliss gently pushed back with the lead rope, guiding Heidi back and the horse fell onto her haunches before flopping sideways, her head landing heavily on the straw bales that Bill had positioned to cushion her blow.
With a loud sob Fliss dropped to her knees and cradled the horseâs head in her lap as Scott then bent over to give her the last injection.
âSo now sheâs just basically gonna fall asleep and never wake up.â He looked at Mary who nodded, giving a loud sniff as she reached up to grab Franks hand.
âYou okay?â He asked and she nodded, wiping at her face with her other hand. Bill moved, dropping a large hand to the back of the small girlâs head as Fliss gently stroked Heidiâs face as the animalâs eyes closed.
With a final, laboured breath, the animalâs chest grew still and Scott bent over.
âSheâs gone.â He looked at Fliss, who gave another loud sob, bending over to press her face into the side of Heidiâs cheek.
âIâm so sorry I couldnât fix you.â She cried, her voice broken. âIâm so sorry.â
Frank was surprised to find his own eyes misting up, and as Mary turned to him, pressing her face into his Tâshirt just above the waistband of his sweats, he glanced up at Bill who had tears trickling down his cheeks. He nodded to Frank who gently looked down at Mary, who stepped back and moved towards Bill as he opened his arms, allowing Frank to move into the barn.
âHey, LissyâŚcome here.â He dropped to his knees and wrapped his arms round his girl who turned and pressed into him, her body wracked as she almost screamed out her sobs.
*****
It was pushing midnight before they made their way back to the house. Fliss had broken down once more as Frank and Bill had pulled the huge barn doors shut where Heidiâs body lay, covered by a tarp, ready for collection in the morning. The Vet had been nothing short of fantastic, as sympathetic and understanding as he could and for that Frank had thanked him profoundly as heâd been packing his kit up. Without a word said between any of them, they walked down the little pathway and through the gate that connected into the gardens of the house and walked slowly across the gravel driveway. Fliss was walking a little ahead of them, every so often Frank would notice her hand falling to Thorâs head, almost as if she was checking her faithful dog was still with them as well.
She opened the back door which led into the mudroom and walked in, kicking off her boots and then headed into the family room where Verity was sat watching TV. She stood up immediately, took one look at Fliss and then she held her arms out.
âMumâŚâ Fliss choked and Verity swallowed, her own face creasing into sadness as Fliss stepped into the comfort of her mumâs arms, sniffing slightly.
âOh, Sweetheart.â Verity pressed a kiss to her daughters head. âI know this is no consolation but she had the best life ever with you, she was so loved and looked after.â
Tearing his eyes away from Fliss, who continued to sniff softly as her mum held her, Frank gently turned to Mary who had tugged on his sleeve.
âYou okay?â He asked, his hand gently cupping under her cheek and she shook her head.
âIâm just sad.â
âI know.â He agreed. âYou will be for a while, and thereâs nothing anyone can say or do thatâs gonna make it better, but if you wanna talk about itâŚâ
âNo, I think I just wanna go to bed.â She shrugged slightly. âAnd give Fred a hug.â
âAlright.â He nodded. âYou go up, Iâll come tuck you in, in a second.â
She nodded and then walked towards Fliss, hesitating a little, before she continued and gently reached up to lay her hand on Flissâs elbow. Fliss broke away from her mum and turned to look at Mary, wiping her eyes. Mary blinked and Fliss gave her a soft smile, crouching down to give her a hug, kissing her head.
âI love you, Mom.â Maryâs voice cracked and Fliss pressed her face harder into her hair, pulling her even closer, before she pulled back a little bit and smiled.
âI love you too. And Iâm proud of you. You were so brave then.â
Fliss straightened up as Mary walked from the room after bidding everyone a goodnight, before she turned to Frank who was watching her carefully, knowing from the way her face was crumpling that her emotions were about to boil over completely. âFrankieâŚsheâŚâ Fliss stuttered, her chest heaving as Frank stepped forward quickly. âShe justâŚâ
âI knowâŚâ He wrapped his arms round her and pulled her close as she began to sob, her face pressed into his t-shirt. He stood, his large arms holding her against him, one hand gently resting on the back of her neck, his thumb gently arching over the skin at the back of her ear as he slowly rocked her to-and-fro on the spot, pressing a kiss to her head.
âIâll make us some tea.â Verity swallowed, and Frank looked at her gratefully as she passed, Bill following, the man gently squeezing Flissâ shoulder. The room was silent apart from the clinking of mugs as Verity gathered the items she needed to make them all a drink, and Thorâs soft little whines of concern, the dog eventually sticking his head in between Frank and Fliss, nudging Flissâs thigh with his nose, his noises of distress becoming more and more high pitched. Fliss looked down, Frankâs arm curling over her shoulder as she reached down and scratched behind his ear, before the dog stood on his hind legs, his large paws reaching Flissâ shoulders as she stooped towards him as he gently licked the tears from her face, his noises dying down a little. Frank watched the animal, a warm feeling in his chest. Heâd never seen him react in this way before. He knew from tales Fliss had told him that heâd often comforted her before once her shit bag ex had given her a battering, and heâd seen the dog seek her out when she was upset or worried, but never in such an overt way like this.
âI know youâre not keen on the idea.â Fliss sniffed, looking at Frank and he turned his eyes from the dog to her. âBut, can he sleep on the end of the bed, just for tonight?â
Frank looked at her, then back to the dog. Having never had pets as a kid, the bond between a human and an animal was never something heâd really given a second thought to, that is until Mary had found Fred. But since meeting Fliss, seeing the way she was with Thor and her horses, seeing how Mary was with Monty, heâd started to really comprehend that the ties went beyond a simple love. They were bonds, bonds that transcended species, bonds that snaked their way around your heart and latched on with barbs and having one of those bonds wrenched away was not only excruciating but it was devastating.
In simple terms, it was like losing a member of your family, and that Frank could relate to. It was a physical pain, a searing knife which twisted in your heart every time you thought about the person youâd lost.
The lump in Frankâs throat grew even larger as he reached out and scratched Thor behind the ear, the dog turning to him and licking the underside of his forearm, his bushy tail wagging against Frankâs leg.
âI think we can make an exception for one night.â He smiled, looking at Fliss before he pressed a soft kiss to her temple.
*****
Frank was glad their bed was a kingsize. Whilst he never minded particularly that Thor would lounge on the bed with them before they were going to sleep, or in the mornings when they got up, having the big animal on there all night could have been a problem, but as it stood, the dog was perfectly happy to curl up round the peak in the covers which Flissâ feet made, and she pointed out to Frank that heâd probably hop off and get on his basket at some point during the night.
âHe used to do that, anyway.â She shrugged. âWhen I was in the annex that is. Asshole never let him on the bed. If he was ever away for a few days and I let him or Loki up, I used to have to change the bedding so he wouldnât find out. One day I forgot andâŚwell, you can figure the rest.â
âShhhh.â Frank kissed her neck softly as he pulled her closer, her back pressing into his chest wrapping his arms around her. âTry and get some sleep, Sweetheart. Itâs late.â
âThank you.â She whispered.
âWhat for?â
âJust being you.â She let out a deep breath and turned her head so she could look at him.
âWell, that is one thing Iâm pretty good at.â He quipped and Fliss gave a soft chuckle before she took a deep breath.
âI know youâre busy at the shop, but is there any chance you could start late tomorrow?â She asked him softly. âI donât wanna be on my own when they come to take her.â
âIâm not going in tomorrow.â Frank shook his head. âAnd Maryâs not going to school. Weâve had a late and upsetting night so I think we should all take it easy, spend some family time together. I thought maybe we could go for a drive, head down to Bay Vista Park.â He suggested. âThereâs plenty of shade to sit in. We can take a picnic, climb some trees, me and Mary can have a game of Ultimate Frisbee, perhaps a swim. Hey, we might even spot some manatees.â
âSounds great.â Fliss agreed, turning her head back round and laying down on the pillow. It was silent for a while, and Frank thought sheâd drifted off to sleep until he felt her take a shuddering breath and her shoulders began to shake.
âHey, come on.â Frank pulled her closer, pressing another kiss to her neck and she turned in his arms, pressing her face into his chest.
âI canât believe sheâs gone.â Fliss sniffed, as Frankâs hand ran up and down her back.
âIâm sorry, Sweetheart. I wish there was something I could do to make this better.â
âThis is helping, a little.â She spluttered and Frank gave a soft chuckle, kissing her head again.
âThen you can stay like this all night.â He replied, closing his eyes as he simply held her close.
Eventually, Frank felt Flissâ breathing grow even, and even though he couldnât see in the dark of their room he knew she was asleep.
âNight, Baby.â He whispered, kissing her forehead and at that he heard Thor give out a little huff as the dog hopped down off the bed, his basket creaking before there was a soft thud indicating heâd bedded down there.
And, as Frank drifted off, he couldnât help smile at just how the faithful dog had waited until he knew his precious human was asleep before he left her side.Â

Read on Ao3
Logan pushed the knob on his fidget cube in slow circles. It was a simple toy, all black, and usually hidden in his pocket. He currently had it pressed between his thigh and the car door. His stomach was knotted and he stared out the window almost obsessively, counting every mile they got closer to his new school.Â
âYou messing with that toy again?âÂ
Logan looked at J. He shoved it in his pocket. âSorry.âÂ
ââS fine. People are gonna make fun of you for being a baby, though.âÂ
Loganâs face heated up. âI told you I wonât use it in front of other people.âÂ
They pulled into the collegeâs parking lot. Loganâs small life was packed up neatly in the backseat. J. turned the car off and sighed.Â
âYou sure you donât need help moving in?â J. gave him a look. âYou know how you can get.âÂ
Logan nodded once. âI know. But I can control that. I can move in myself, donât worry.âÂ
hesitated, then sighed again. âAlright. Get out, then. Call me tonight.âÂ
âYeah. Love you.âÂ
âMhm.âÂ
Logan stacked up his three boxes and started towards his dorm. Luckily, J. had taken a few weeks off his own education and brought Logan down for a tour last week, so he knew exactly where he was going. He managed all the way to his room and fumbled for the key card in his wallet.Â
He nearly dropped his boxes, and his heart leapt into his throat. He caught them just fine, but the panic remained, fizzling slowly like water down a stopped drain. His fingers itched for his cube. He ignored it, and got the door open just before the anxiety peaked.Â
One half of the room was already claimed, half unpacked suitcases sprawled over the bed and wardrobe, so Logan dumped his stuff on the second bed. He immediately righted the boxes and tossed some fallen items back inside. He glanced over his shoulder.Â
He was alone.Â
He shoved his hand in his pocket and found the side with the buttons, mashing them down before flipping it to switch. He click-click-clacked it a few times as the tension slipped from his chest.Â
He took a second to look around the room. His roommateâs life was coated in black and purple. Band tees stuck out of the half clothes drawer, notebook upon notebook littering his bed. He had a purple and black plaid quilt tossed over a gray weighted blanket. An expensive laptop sat freely on the desk.Â
â...oh, come on, you are such an asshole.â The door opened and closed, and a boy with purple hair came inside, holding a phone to his ear with his arms full of sodas and candy. âYeah, yeah, yeah. Fuck you, too. Sure. Later. Love you.âÂ
Logan blinked.Â
The boy dumped his food on his bed and shoved his phone in his pocket. He raised an eyebrow. âUh, hi.âÂ
Logan nodded. âWas that a⌠girlfriend?âÂ
âNah, my brother.â He turned back to line his drinks on the shared desk. âIâm Virgil.âÂ
âLogan.â He hesitated, then turned to his own bed, pulling out neatly rolled up clothes.Â
âI hope you donât mind that I already picked my side.â Virgil grabbed another armful of clothes and went over to the wardrobe, punching down the fabric until he could layer more inside.Â
Logan couldnât help but say, âYou could fit more if you folded them.âÂ
Virgil snorted. âThereâs three other drawers. Iâll be fine.âÂ
âRight.â His face flushed. âSorry.âÂ
Logan hung his clothes in the closet. They unpacked silently. Logan occasionally tapped his pocket, just to make sure his cube was still there.Â
Virgil sat at the edge of his bed and held out his hand. âLet me see your class schedule?âÂ
Logan startled, then fumbled for his backpack. âRightâ Uh, sorry, one second.âÂ
He found it while Virgil watched with raised eyebrows. He handed it over. Virgil hummed, gray eyes trailing over the paper. He really was striking. He was loud in a way Logan never wanted to be, but Virgil didnât seem upset by it. It was all clearly a choice, from the way he dressed to how he styled his hair. He lounged on his bed, taking up all the space without taking his combat boots off first, chewing on his nailsâ likely while the nail polish was chipped.Â
Nail polish. His middle fingers were painted black, the rest a strong purple. How did he have the confidence to wear nail polish? If Logan tried that, J. would make fun of him until he cried.Â
âWe have some Gen-Eds together,â Virgil mused. âAnd an art class. How long have you been drawing?âÂ
Logan swallowed and sat on his bed. It was clear Virgil wasnât handing the schedule back any time soon. âNot long. I just picked it up last year, actually. It sounded, I donât know, relaxing.âÂ
Virgil grinned and glanced at him. âItâs frustrating, isnât it?âÂ
âItâs⌠hard. Harder than I expected.âÂ
âCan I see?âÂ
Logan hesitated. He reached for the box with his sketchbook, but Virgil held his hand up.Â
âItâs okay. No need to look so panicked.â He chuckled. âIâll just look later. I was going to go look around campus, make sure I know where all my classes are. Wanna come with? We can check the Gen-Eds.âÂ
Logan really didnât want toâ he knew where his classes were, and he planned on finding good spots for his stuff âbut he nodded and stood. He glanced at Virgilâs bed, where he laid on top of all of his stuff. A few things crumpled and crunched as he rolled onto his feet.Â
âCool.â He grabbed a Monster off the desk and popped it open. âLetâs go.âÂ
Virgil wasnât actually as loud as he looked. He had the confidence down, and he teased Logan quite a bit, but he was very⌠calm. Logan would never admit it out loud, but he was jealous. He could never be that sure of himself.Â
After finding their Gen-Eds, they agreed to stick together to find their other classes as well. Logan admitted to having already visited hisâ Virgil laughed âso they set off to find Virgilâs.Â
Once they got to the last class on the list, Virgil stopped. âShit,â he whispered. âOh, shit.âÂ
Logan frowned. âWhat is it?âÂ
The wind blew through Virgilâs bangs, revealing wide, anxiety-filled eyes. The courtyard was mostly empty, the occasional student passing by a couple dozen feet away.Â
âThey put me in the wrong class.â Virgil pushed his hair back and drew in a shaky breath. âWe agreed Iâd be in the morning class, Iâ I canât make this one, I donât knowâ fuck.âÂ
âHey.â Logan took a small step closer. âHey, itâs okay. We can just go talk to someone, right?âÂ
Virgil shook his head quickly. His breathing was speeding up. âNo, are you kidding? Theyâre probably so busy, this is stupid. I justâ fuck, Iâll have to make it work.âÂ
âVirgil, no.â Logan laughed weakly. âNo, come on, we can fix this. Breathe, right?âÂ
ââBreatheââ Right, fuck, Iâm not⌠Iâm not breathing.âÂ
Logan held his hands out, and Virgil scrambled to take them. Logan held them tight. âUh, just follow my breathing.âÂ
Logan helped him right himself, a few tears slipping out from Virgilâs eyes, but he mostly got himself back together pretty fast.Â
âFuck, Iâm sorry.â Virgil gave Logan their schedules and pushed his sweaty palms down his pants. He wiped his face. âSorry, that was⌠stupid.â He fiddled with the zipper on his hoodie.Â
âNo, it wasnât. I⌠uh, here.â Logan hesitated, then found his fidget cube and pressed it into Virgilâs hand.Â
Virgil looked at it in surprise. His fingers naturally found the side with the buttons, click-click-clicking. âOh. Thanks. I had one of these last year but I lost it.âÂ
Logan blinked. âReally?âÂ
âYeah. Iâll give it back though, donât worry.âÂ
âLetâs go talk to the registrar. We can tell them your schedule is conflicting.âÂ
Virgil stared at the cube. He flicked the dial a few times, listening to the light crank as it snapped back. âAre you sure?â He mumbled.Â
Logan forced a smile against his nerves. âOf course. Better to do it now then wait until itâs worse.âÂ
âThatâs true. Okay.â He laughed weakly and straightened his shirt out. âRight, youâre right. Sorry about this.âÂ
âItâs fine,â Logan promised.Â
Logan walked with him down to the registrar's office and it ended up being an easy fix. Virgil walked out while rolling his eyes.Â
âI canât believe that gave me a panic attack. Shit, Iâve had panic attacks over some dumb things, but⌠wow.âÂ
Logan laughed. âItâs a⌠big day. Donât worry about it. I, uh⌠I had a couple today, too.âÂ
âWell, panic attacks make me hungry. Do you want to go grab something to eat?âÂ
Logan nodded. âSure.âÂ
They stopped outside their dorm building. Virgil texted for a moment, then said, âI have a car we can borrow. Come on.âÂ
They found a silver truck in the Juniorâs parking lot. Virgil pulled the keys out of his pocket. âItâs my brotherâs,â he said. âIâve got a spare key.âÂ
âYour brother sounds cool.â Logan climbed into the passenger side.Â
It was a very tall truck. His face heated up as he struggled a little to get inside.Â
âHeâs an asshole,â Virgil laughed. âWhat do you want to eat?âÂ
âUhââ Loganâs mind blanked. âUm⌠I donâtâ I donât know, what do you want?âÂ
Virgil raised an eyebrow. âUm⌠Okay, well, I know a Chinese place close by thatâs good. We can grab one to bring back?âÂ
Logan nodded and relaxed into his seat. âYeah. Thatâs good.âÂ
Virgil pulled out of the parking lot. They took their food to go, Logan managing to find a kosher option fairly easily, and ate while flipping through Netflix. They found a show theyâd both been wanting to watch and got stuck on it easily. They ended up watching the entire first season, only stopping to break open Virgilâs collection of snacks. Â
Logan went to bed that night, later than he ever had, feeling better than he ever had.Â
xxxÂ
âHey, Iâm going to see my brother. Want to come?âÂ
Logan looked up from his homework in surprise. âUm⌠sure?âÂ
Virgil had been acting weird lately. He invited him to go somewhere or do something every day. If Logan showed the slightest bit of hesitation, he backed off, but there he was again the next day. If Logan did hesitate, Virgil wouldnât let him go back on it. Logan didnât understand it.Â
Heâd also started acting more nervous around Logan. Less sure of himself. Logan worried he did something. But if he did, thereâs no way Virgil would want him to meet his brother, would he?Â
He settled his homework neatly back inside his binder and checked a few things off his planner before grabbing his phone and wallet. He followed Virgil outside, where the streetlights glowed warmly against the dark sky, and across the courtyard. The Junior dorm buildings looked identical to the Freshmenâs, only a bit bigger. Inside, their lobby was much more taken care of, and looked more like a gameroom than anything. Groups of students sat with decks of cards, at vending machines, at pool tables. Instead of heading up to the dorms, Virgil led Logan to a small group of kids settled in bean bag chairs.Â
A boy with striking similarities to Virgilâ all angles and bones, the same gray eyes âsat with another boy, covered in freckles, settled in his lap.Â
âHey, Jan. Hey, Patton.â Virgil placed a light hand on Loganâs shoulder. The touch burned through his shirt, and Logan nearly sucked in a breath. âThis is Logan, heâs my roommate.âÂ
âWow, youâre getting along with your roommate?â Janus asked in surprise. âI guess I owe Patton ten bucks.âÂ
âYou do not!â Patton rolled his eyes with a smile. âWe did not make a bet, Virgil. Heâs doing his thing.âÂ
âI know,â Virgil laughed.Â
He pulled the last free bean bag chair towards them and yanked Logan down with him. Their sides pressed together, the bag molding them against each other, Logan couldnât breathe. He managed to settle himself on the edge of the chair. His side was cold as ice, his heart racing. Virgil gave him a weird look before shoving it off and looking back to Janus.Â
Logan thought briefly when the last time he had a hug was. Surely not that long ago, right? Parents hugged their children all the time. But he couldnât quite recall. If heâd been hugged recently, would he still have the strong urge to reach out and feel Virgilâs hair? To take his hand and trace Virgilâs fingers? To feel Virgilâs palm against his face?Â
Loganâs face flushed. Stop acting creepy.Â
âWhat are we playing?â Virgil asked.Â
Virgil helped him through the card game. It became obvious towards the third round that Janus was cheating, mostly because Patton scolded him loud enough for everyone to hear.Â
âWait, heâs been cheating?â Virgil threw his cards down dramatically. âYou bitch!âÂ
Janus laughed as Virgil kicked the cards at him. Logan tensed.Â
âStop fighting!â Patton sighed, but he was smiling. Why was he smiling? He batted his eyelashes at Janus. âBaby, buy me a snack?âÂ
Janus picked Patton up, stood, then tossed Patton into the bean bag chair. He squealed.Â
âDonât use that voice on me.â Janus leaned down and kissed him softly. âTotally unfair.âÂ
âOh, is it?âÂ
They mumbled together for a moment between kisses. Logan was certain his face had never been so red. Virgil picked up a card and flung it at them.Â
âGross! I donât want to see my brother make out with anyone!âÂ
Janus snorted as he pulled away and found his wallet. âThatâs just because youâve never made out with anyone.âÂ
Virgilâs ears turned red. âThatâs not true! Gah!âÂ
Janus left to the vending machine, and Patton relaxed into the chair with a wide grin. âSo Logan, what are you studying?âÂ
âPhysics,â he mumbled. âAre you two okay?âÂ
Virgil looked at him in surprise. âMe and Janus?âÂ
Logan nodded.Â
âUh, yeah? Why?âÂ
âYou guys were fighting?âÂ
Patton giggled while Virgil raised an eyebrow. âWe werenât fighting, we were joking. You donât have brothers?âÂ
âNo, I have one. Heâs two years older than me.âÂ
âAlright⌠whatâs his name? Maybe Janus knows him.âÂ
âHe doesnât go to this school.â Logan found his fidget cube in his pocket and rolled his thumb around the metal ball. âHeâs at a college in our hometown.âÂ
âYou moved away for college?â Patton asked in surprise.Â
âWhatâs going on?â Janus dropped into Pattonâs lap and pressed several packets of gummies into his palm with a kiss to his cheek.Â
âLogan went to college out of state to get away from his brother,â Virgil said.Â
Loganâs eyes widened. âThatâs not true!âÂ
Virgil bumped their shoulders together.Â
âIf Virgil tried going to college out of state without a good reason, Iâd kill him.â Janus pulled Patton closer. âSeriously. Iâd be worried out of my mind.âÂ
âYou donâtâŚâ Logan hated to confirm Virgilâs suspicion, but he couldnât stop himself from asking, âyou donât need, like, a break?âÂ
Everyone stared at him.Â
âNo,â Janus said flatly. âNo, I actually love my brother.âÂ
âGross,â Virgil mumbled, but his ears were red again.Â
âI love my brother,â Logan insisted.Â
âOh, we donât doubt that.âÂ
âI justâ I donât know. You guys were fighting yesterday morning, too.âÂ
Virgil stared at him in confusion, until it clicked. He laughed. âYou mean when I was on the phone? Lo, he called me a coffee gremlin so I told him to fuck off. It wasnât a fight. We were just messing with each other.âÂ
Heat steadily climbed up Loganâs neck. He closed his hand around his cube until it hurt. He wanted to curl in on himself, escape the conversation, and never see any of them again.Â
âWhat the hell does your brother call you?â Janus asked.Â
âItâs not a big deal,â Logan said weakly. âWeâre justâ weâre not as close as you, I guess.âÂ
âLogan, itâs okay,â Patton said softly, face pinched with worry. âYou can talk about it. No oneâs here to judge you, weâre not trying to force you to be grateful for your family or anything.âÂ
Janus squeezed Pattonâs shoulder. âYeah, we know about shitty families, if thatâs what this is.â
âAnd thatâs the vibe Iâm getting,â Virgil added. âThe shit Janus calls me doesnât bother me. I tell him if he says something fucked up. What does your brother do?âÂ
âIâ I donât know, I donât know.â Logan pushed his sweaty palms against his jeans. âHe just⌠gets mad sometimes. You know?â
âNo,â Virgil said flatly. âWhat does he do when heâs mad?âÂ
âHe just⌠gets mad.â Loganâs voice trembled. He didnât know how to get out of this. He made a big deal out of it, something that so clearly wasnât a big deal, and now he was just stuck. âI guess he, I donât know, he calls me selfish sometimes.âÂ
âLike when?â Patton asked. Heâd leaned forward, hands clasped between his knees, brows knitted.Â
Logan stuttered through a few stories off the top of his head. Heâd tried to tell them in a casual way, insist that it wasnât a big deal and he was fine, but everyone was so⌠concerned. Virgilâs fists clenched around his hoodie, Janusâ eyes narrowed. Logan ducked his head. He was shaking.Â
He scrambled to his feet. âIâm sorry, I think Iâ I think I need to go.âÂ
âLogan,â Virgil sighed. âWe can stop talking about it, but come on. You canât like the way he treats you.âÂ
âDoes it matter?âÂ
Everyone paused. Logan pressed a hand to his forehead.Â
âNo,â Janusâ voice dripped with sarcasm, âof course not. People can just do whatever they want to you with no consequences.â He waved his hand. âWho cares, right?âÂ
Logan froze up. His muscles were pulled taut, eyes squeezed shut, his body wilting like a dead flower.Â
âJanus,â Patton scolded.Â
He sighed. âSorry. Look, of course it matters. Come on, sit down. Everything is fine.âÂ
Logan didnât believe that. But he sat anyway. He answered their questions. He explained everything as honestly as he could.Â
Part of him wanted to defend J., to insist that it really wasnât that bad and J. loved him. But Logan wasnât sure if J. did love him. Heâd heard how Virgil talked about Janus, and there wasnât a doubt in Loganâs mind that J. would never talk about him that way. Heâd seen how Janus looked at Virgil, sometimes angry but usually in a protective way. It wasnât like anything Logan had seen from J.Â
Hearing them throw around the words âabusive,â âmanipulative,â and even âgaslighting,â was hard. Logan jammed the joystick on his fidget cube around so much he almost broke it, bouncing his leg up and down, eventually having to get up and pace. He kept waiting for the snapping, for everyone to tell him how annoying he was being and that he needed to sit and be quiet. They didnât.Â
It was almost uncomfortable.Â
The conversation eventually movedâ Logan was simultaneously relieved and disappointed âbut everyone looked at him different after that. Before Virgil and Logan went back to their room, Patton offered a hug. Logan hesitated, and was about to step into Pattonâs arms, when Virgil grabbed his shoulderâ just long enough to make him pause.Â
âYou donât have to say yes,â he said flatly.Â
Pattonâs eyes widened. âOh, gosh! Right! Of course not. Sorry, Logan.â
Logan cleared his throat. âItâs okay.âÂ
On the walk back, Virgil said, âWeâre going to have to work on that.âÂ
Logan shoved his hands in his pockets. With Fall kicking in full force, it was freezing outside at night, their breath coming out as fog.Â
âWork on what?â He mumbled. His body was heavy, eyes lidded.Â
âYour whole people pleaser bullshit. You donât have to say yes to everything. Itâs okay to not want to do something.âÂ
Logan swallowed. He shrugged.Â
Virgil stepped in front of Logan and crossed his arms. âWe need to set some boundaries, or else I canât be friends with you. Iâm not going to hurt you because you wonât communicate. I wonât be like J.â Virgil stared for a moment, eyes swiping over Loganâs face. His eyes softened. âI wonât be mad. Youâre just going to have to trust me on that.âÂ
âI donâtâŚâ Loganâs heart thumped in his ears. He pressed his thumb against the buttons of his cube. âI donât really⌠I donât know how to handle being touched.âÂ
Virgilâs eyebrows raised. âOh? I mean, okay. So donât touch you, then?âÂ
âMaybe, just⌠I donât know, not that often?â Logan bounced on the balls of his feet. The cold had wormed its way into his bones, and he felt like if he didnât move heâd either go crazy or freeze to death.Â
âCome on, letâs get inside.â Virgil nodded towards the door.Â
They didnât talk until they were settled into their beds and the lights were off.Â
âThanks for telling me,â Virgil said. âIâll talk to the others, too. You can always reach out if you want.âÂ
Loganâs eyes watered. He was grateful for the dark. âYeah,â he whispered.Â
âGoodnight, Lo.âÂ
âGoodnight, Virgil.âÂ
xxxÂ
Virgil and Logan laid on their stomachs, on the floor. Notebooks and textbooks were spread out in front of them, covered in highlighter and pen.Â
It was a few months after Logan had confessed about J., and a few things were becoming apparent. 1) Virgil was not giving up on him. Neither were Janus or Patton.Â
2) J. probably, almost definitely, did not love Logan.Â
Every day it was becoming more and more clear.Â
Logan had never been treated the way Virgil and his friends treated him. Sometimes they argued, sometimes Logan was so frustrated and confused he wanted to cry, but they never made him feel like he wasnât important. Every fight was important. And for the first time, he was able to move on from them. Even when things werenât quite resolved, even when there was still more to talk aboutâ that didnât stop Virgil from inviting him out to dinner, from joining him to study, for putting on a bad horror movie.Â
âAlright,â Virgil sighed, pushing the textbook away and burying his face in his arms. His voice came out muffled, âif I look at American History anymore Iâm going to die. What next?â
âUhâŚâ Logan cleared his throat and looked at their stack of remaining textbooks.Â
Semester finals were coming up in the next month and Logan was severely behind in Calculus.Â
âI donâtâ I donât know, what do you want to do next?âÂ
Virgil picked his head up sluggishly. He blinked at Logan for a second, hair mussed, wrinkles under his eyes. He grabbed their stack of textbooks and dragged it closer.Â
He hummed as he looked through it, then pulled the Calculus and Economics textbooks. He shoved the others away. âWhich one?âÂ
âUmâŚâ
âCome on, Iâm good with either. Which one?âÂ
Logan hesitated, then pushed away the Economics book.Â
âCool.â Virgil flipped the textbook open. âCome on, I want to get this done.âÂ
Logan flushed. He scrambled to find his notebook and flashcards, struggling to focus. A sturdy feeling of control settled over Loganâs bones, something he didnât think heâd ever felt before.Â
xxxÂ
âAlmost ready to go?â
âUh, yeah, just let meââÂ
Logan yanked the blanket down his bed, then pushed aside his pillow. He relaxed and snatched his fidget cube, shoving it in his pocket.Â
âOkay.â He straightened up. âIâm ready. Letâs go.âÂ
They left their dorm and headed downstairs. Theyâd planned to meet Janus and Patton in the parking lot so they could all go to this arcade nearby. Janus had jokingly (jokingly?) called it a double date.Â
âYeah, thereâs this zombie game youâd really like,â Virgil rambled as they stepped outside. He immediately tensed against the cold and stepped closer to Logan. Logan shuffled against him, their shared body heat negligible.Â
The parking lot appeared ahead and Logan stopped.Â
âLo?â Virgil frowned. âWhatâs up?âÂ
got out of his car and grinned as his eyes landed on Logan. He waved.Â
âUmâŚâ Shit. âIâ I donât know, uhââÂ
âLogan!âÂ
Virgil looked over his shoulder as J. headed towards them. His face darkened. âIs that J.?âÂ
âYeah.âÂ
âHey!â J. stopped in front of them and grinned. âSurprise. Come on, letâs go grab dinner. Whoâs this?âÂ
âVirgil.â Logan stepped closer. âMy roommate, remember?âÂ
âOh, yeah. Well anyway, letâs go.â
âActually,â Virgil said in annoyance, âwe had plans. Maybe you can call ahead next time.âÂ
quirked an eyebrow. Loganâs blood ran cold as J.âs eyes narrowed. âYouâll have to reschedule. Heâs my little brother, Iâm sure you can find someone else to drag along.âÂ
Virgil scoffed and glanced back at Logan, then stopped. âYouâre not really considering this, are you?âÂ
Logan looked between them, helpless. He was terrified of upsetting either of them, but there was no way to please both of them.Â
âIâ I donât know. J., we had plans,â he said quietly.Â
âYou can reschedule.â J. grabbed Loganâs arm and pulled him closer. âI havenât seen you in forever, donât be selfish.âÂ
âYou donât have to do what he wants,â Virgil insisted. His eyes were on J., face scrunched in a glower.Â
âWhatâs up with you?â J. asked in frustration. âYouâre acting like itâs a crime to take my little brother to dinner. Just lay off, will you?âÂ
He stormed away, dragging Logan behind him. Virgil huffed. His footsteps echoed away.Â
Please donât be mad.Â
Logan forced himself through dinner. The entire night crawled by, full of passive aggressive comments and insults Logan had forgotten how much he hated. He didnât understand why J. came all the way down here just to ridicule him. Couldnât he do that over text like he usually did? Didnât he catch on to why Logan stopped answering?Â
After J. drove him back to campus, way after nightfall, he grabbed Loganâs arm before he could escape. âWe need to talk.âÂ
Logan shoved his hand in his pocket. He flicked the switch, over and over, click-click-clickâÂ
âWill you stop playing with that fuckinâ toy? Iâm being serious.â
âIt calms me down,â Logan mumbled, pulling his hand out. âSorry.âÂ
âI donât like Virgil,â he said flatly. âI donât like how he treats you and honestly heâs fucking rude. Youâve been pulling away. Mom and Dad havenât heard from you in months. I havenât heard from you in longer. Thatâs not fair to us just because you have this new friend.âÂ
Logan stared. What the hell was he supposed to say? I like how Virgil treats me a whole fuckton more than you do. He couldnât say that. Even if he wanted to, which he wasnât sure he did.Â
âIâll talk to him about it,â he lied.Â
âTalk toââ J. barked a laugh, âno, ask for a new roommate. I donât want you talking to him at all anymore, okay?âÂ
Logan swallowed. âHeâs my best friend.âÂ
âThatâs a problem. Heâs not good for you.âÂ
He pulled on the door handle a few times. âCan I go? I get it, Iâm sorry.âÂ
âYou clearly donât get it. If you didââ
Logan pulled on the handle a few more times as J. droned on. His body was lighter, his head foggy. He could see himself tugging, tugging, could watch J. getting angrier and barely made out his mouth forming the words âstop with the fucking door.âÂ
Then he was outside.Â
peeled out of the parking lot, tired squeaking over the pavement, and Logan hurried to his dorm.Â
Virgil paused the T.V. as Logan got inside. He panted, chest heaving. Did he run? He didnât remember.Â
âLogan?â Virgil stood. âHey, whatâs going on? Whatâd he do? Did he say something?â He hurried over.Â
Logan stumbled through the story. Virgilâs glare deepened with each word, and every time Logan tried to make it better, Virgil just got angrier.Â
âStop apologizing,â he snapped. âCome here, you need to sit down.âÂ
He held out his hand, and Logan hesitated, before taking it. As Virgil led him to the bed, Logan focused on the textureâ soft and cold. The pad of Virgilâs thumb was pressed against Loganâs palm. He craved more and he wanted to rip his hand away.Â
Virgil sat Logan down, then took his back back and knelt down. âWhereâs your cube?â
Logan shook his head.Â
Virgil glared. âDid he take it?âÂ
âNo! I justâ I donât need it.âÂ
âYou clearly do. Come on, have I ever made fun of you for that?âÂ
Logan hesitated, then fumbled to get it out. Click-click-click. Click-clack-click-click.Â
âCome on, follow my breathing. Itâs okay. Weâre going to figure this out. You donât need him. Itâs alright.â
Virgil slowly got Logan back in his body. His breathing became his again, and he was reminded of where he was. He gripped the covers, rubbing his fingers over the plush.Â
âIâm sorry,â he managed. He still panted a little, his head light.Â
âSit here. Iâm gonna grab some water.âÂ
Virgil came back and sat next to him. He handed Logan the water, who gulped it down. He hadnât realized how thirsty he was. Virgil took the glass back, their fingers brushing, and set it on the desk.Â
âI donât think you should talk to him anymore.âÂ
Logan flinched.Â
âI know. I know itâs confusing. Itâs your decision. If you want to stay in contact with him for a little longer, Iâm not going to hold that against you.â
Logan looked up in surprise. âWhat? But you wantââ
âItâs not my life. I think heâs an asshole and I donât think he deserves you, but Iâm not going to make choices for you. Not these.âÂ
Loganâs eyes watered. He looked away.Â
Virgil sighed. âYou donât have to do that. I wonât make fun of you.âÂ
He buried his face in his hands as his body shook.Â
Virgil cleared his throat. âUsually when Patton cries, he wants hugs, I donât⌠um⌠what do you need?âÂ
âWhat?â Loganâs voice cracked, and Virgil repeated himself. âA blanket?âÂ
Virgil reached around and pulled the blanket around Loganâs shoulders. He whispered âOne second,â and rushed over to his bed. He dragged his weighted blanket over and settled that around Loganâs shoulders, too.Â
Logan got his tears out while Virgil refilled his water. He took it with clammy hands, wiping his nose. âThank you,â he mumbled.Â
âYou should get some sleep.âÂ
Logan nodded. He started to take off the weighted blanket, but Virgil held his hand up. âItâs alright. Keep it tonight.âÂ
Logan hesitated. âAre you sure?âÂ
âWouldnât say it if I wasnât.âÂ
He swallowed. âThank you. Iâ thank you.âÂ
Virgil smiled awkwardly. âGet some sleep.âÂ
Logan settled into bed as Virgil turned the lights off. He brought the weighted blanket up to his nose, eyelids fluttering closed. It smelled like Virgil. It was warm.Â
Logan was safe.Â
xxxÂ
Over the rest of the school year, Logan slowly worked at cutting off his parents and J. Virgil helped him, even through the hiccups. There was a moment Logan thought he could fix things, that he and J. could reconcileâ then J. gaslit him and Logan almost switched colleges. Virgil made it clear what J. was doing, and Logan hadnât spoken to J. since.Â
The two eventually agreed to get an apartment together after college. Logan got a part time job to keep his mind busy, and he barely had any free time between that and the studying, but he spent most of it with Virgil.Â
âAnd how satisfied were you with your roommate this year?â The registrar asked as Logan sat in the oversized armchair.Â
âUm, he was good. I liked my roommate.âÂ
âWould you like to continue rooming with him next year?âÂ
She barely finished speaking before Logan blurted out a âyes.â She laughed and noted it down. Logan met Virgil outside afterwards, and they headed towards the Junior parking lot.Â
âYou said yes to rooming next year, right?â Virgil asked.Â
Logan nodded. âYeah. You?âÂ
âNah, didnât feel like it.â He smiled. ââCourse I did. You canât get rid of me.âÂ
Logan laughed. âWhat do you want to eat?âÂ
âI think Iâm gonna force Janus to buy me a pizza.âÂ
He wrinkled his nose.Â
Virgil snorted. âWhat, you donât want pizza?âÂ
âThat pizzeria you like is disgusting.âÂ
âYouâre disgusting.âÂ
âCome on, we eat there too much. Canât we get something else?âÂ
Virgil pretended to think about it for a moment, before rolling his eyes. âYeah, whatever. You can pick this time. Iâll tell Janus and Patton to deal with it.âÂ
Logan grinned. They made it to the parking lot and piled into Janusâ truck. Logan told them what they were eating for dinner, and as Janus headed that way, Virgil nudged Logan with his elbow.Â
âIâm proud of you,â he murmured.Â
Patton had turned the radio on. Pop music blared through the speakers, but Logan could hear perfectly with Virgilâs mouth close to his ear. Not enough to touch. Just close.Â
Logan flushed. âFor what?âÂ
âYouâve come a long way this year.âÂ
âBut I stillââ
âShh. Not focusing on that right now. Iâm proud of you.â
Loganâs stomach filled with butterflies. Virgil pulled away with a grin, then yelled something at Janus, who flicked him off.Â
Logan settled back with a smile.Â

22 for Quirrel and Monomon (Monomom) has mother/son relationship.ďżź
22. âBoom! Thatâs a victory in my book!â
(No beta reader and I apologize for any errors! I will put this on A03 later most likely.)
Monomon hrmed to herself as she tapped her mask with the end of a quill. She has been working on the same chemical formula for the past few hours. Lurien had swore up and down that if only she could come up with some sort of...mild...explosive, that it could theoretically be used as a source of power. He had explained that using such a compound could potentially power a machine through sheer physics alone and keep going without the need of further input, at least until the compound ran out. Something about gears and pistons and other things...she didnât quite catch it all through his ramblings. He had most likely stayed up for days again and is most likely now forcibly put to bed by his butler. Lurien may be hilarious when sleep deprived but she didnât want her friend to up and die from lack of said sleep.
Still it was very interesting and even if the idea didnât work, it was always nice to have a new type of explosive around. You know. For reasons. Not just for the good of the kingdom after all.
Before she could continue her musings or her notes, she was interrupted by the sound of sniffling and the tapping of tiny feet passing her door. This part of the archives was her private home, which meant that the only source of the noise would be her adopted son, now home from school. It was highly unusual that he just didnât barge on in to yell about some new fact he learned or to show off his marks like most days. He is quite the excitable little pip and always happy to ask questions his teachers couldnât answer.
She put down her quill in instant concern and floated over her seat, leaving her work behind on her desk. She opened the door to her study and poked out her head, listening.
Yep, she still heard the sniffling, but down the hall and behind the door covered in crayon drawings and book posters. Â The door was also closed as well, another unusual thing. She held up a tentacle curled up the tip to knock softly once she approached, and waited for the answer.
âSniff...come in.â The voice behind the door was so sad, it made her pseudo-heart clench as she cracked open the door.
âQuirrel, are you okay?â She regretted the question as soon as she asked it once she saw her adopted son. Little Quirrel looked absolutely miserable, tiny antenna drooping as he rubbed his eyes. He wasnât old enough for a mask yet, so she could see that he must have been crying for a while. He was half curled up. Most likely he was fully balled up in distress before she knocked, which gave her a spark of pride that he trusted her to open up a little. A far cry from when she found him only a few years ago, all alone.
Monomon drifted over to gently sit on the bed with her little pillbug, wrapping a comforting tentacle around his small body. She used another to pat his head gently between the antenna, something that he always liked. She kept her outer self gentle as she wiped away tears and dried his face. Inside however, she was calculating how much acid she will need per volume to remove all traces of those responsible for making her dear little pip cry. Surely the kingdom wonât miss a few bugs here and there, right?
Itâs so very hard to see such a tiny little child upset. What made it worse is that she doesnât know exactly how old he is. The doctors estimated around six or seven now last time she took him in for a check up. Still, too small to be this sad, in her humble opinion.Â
âWhat happened, my little scholar?â She had let him calm down a little before she decided it was okay to start looking for answers. Sheâll give him all the time he needed to speak.
He hugged one of her tentacles and buried his face into the soft material. He didnât speak for a moment, Â grounding himself before he managed to choke out a short sentence.
âThey ruined it.â
âRuined, what, my dear?â She continued her cuddling and felt him relax a little.
âMy project.â He freed one of his arms long enough to point to a smooshed box on the floor of the room.
She was big enough that all she really needed to do was to crane her head and look without having to stop snuggling her child. She couldnât help but wince a little at the sight. She knew what that was. In the smashed up box was an equally smashed up mess that was once an intricately put together model of the White Palace. The numerous Popsicle sticks so lovingly glitter glued together was snapped to pieces. The fiends even crumbled up the little paper windows he so carefully cut out and glued into place. She had watched him labor over this project for a solid week, and if she remembered right, he was supposed to turn it in today with the rest of his class. She had to think a minute as her own teaching plans muddled into the ones Quirrel talked about having in school. Sometimes it was hard to keep track of it all.
âThey mehâm--mashed it up cause they said Iâm-m-m a show off and nobody likes show offs and thatâs why no-nobody likes me in school and I make everyone else look bad to-to the teacher.â He was in tears again and she for a moment wondered just how much could be left in such a small little body.
âListen to me, my little scholar.â She once again took on tear wiping duty, taking a second tentacle to tickle under his chin the way she knows he likes. âWhat those people are, are bullies. Nothing they say is the truth.â
âBut...but theyâ
âThey said the things they knew would make you feel sad.â She interrupted before he could begin one of his negative spiraling thoughts. âItâs what they want to do, to make you upset.â
âBut...why?â Quirrel is such an innocent soul. Despite his past, he still canât understand why someone would be willfully cruel unless he somehow caused it.
âFor many reasons. Most likely for this one, they were jealous. They didnât like that you made something they felt wasnât as good as theirs so they wanted to punish you for it.â The look in her young sonsâ eyes told her to continue with a little more elaboration. âAgain, it wasnât your fault. You did nothing wrong. You just wanted to make us all proud, and I will always be proud of you.â
He shuffled his feet a little, still unsure on how to take the praise, but she could tell it made him very happy.
âEven if it got all smashed up?â
âEven if it got all smashed up.â She tweaked his cheek pad lovingly. She suddenly had an idea. A no good, terrible idea. An idea that could help out both her little Quirrel and herself.
âNow, I want you to tell me or your teacher right away if this happens again. But, I think I have an idea to make them leave you alone, for a while at least.â
Quirrel looked up with his big wide eyes. âHow?
She grinned back at him. âHow about we conduct a little experiment?â
---
âHey! Nerd!â
Quirrel paused, holding his box snugly to his chest. He slowly turned around to find his tormentors right behind him. These were three larger students that smashed his project the other day. He could tell they were angry. Even though he didnât turn in his project yesterday, it seemed like they still got low marks...and now they were going to take it out on him. Of course, they cornered him in the alley, away from prying adult eyes. They always bullied him away from any sort of help.
âWhatcha got here, shrimp? Did you make your project again? Trying to show us up?â The largest bug demanded, deliberately bumping into the pillbug and making him stumble.
âI think he did.â The second and third bug closed in. âIt must make him happy to make us look bad.â
âNo! I donât!â Quirrel protested. He stood up as straight as he could and puffed up a little, just like mama told him to.
âDonât talk back to us, speck!â The largest bug grabbed the box and tossed it to the ground. âCome on boys, seems little Quirrly needs another lesson on what we do to know-it-alls around here!â
As soon as the big bugs stepped around the box, Quirrel retreated to a safe distance. The bullies were so focused on the box that they didnât notice Monomon drift around the building to stand with her son, looping a tentacle around his shoulders.
âWatch,â She whispered.
Quirrel did watch, paying attention as all three bullies raised their legs at the same time and brought their feet down as hard as they could on the box.
There was a second where nothing happened, and then came a popping BOOM as the package exploded. Bright pink glitter and glue flung itself out of the box with the force of the explosion and utterly covered the bullies with a liberal coating of sparkles. Squealing in panic and fear, Quirrel watched as the three stumbled over themselves, tripping and rolling as they tried to escape. They finally flung themselves down the alley as fast as they could, still sliding around on loose glitter and glue as the fled out into the crowded streets.
It only took a moment to hear a roar of laughter echo off into the distance, most likely chasing the three bullies no matter where they tried to run.
Quirrel fell down, laughing so hard he couldnât keep standing. Monomon looked down at her son with pride, trying to also keep her laughing in.
âBoom! Thatâs a victory in my book! Letâs see them mess with you again, eh?â
Quirrel nodded as he tried to hold in his giggles. He found himself being picked up and brushed off by his mother, setting him up on her shoulder.
âCome now, let's have a talk with your teacher, shall we?â
Quirrel nodded, and both mother and son left the ally, leaving their ingenious trap behind them.

Sure would be a shame⌠heâs got his whole life ahead of him you know.â

âOne more hour! Câmon, just one more hour please,â Peter begged, hands twitching and sweating as he looked around frantically. He could do it. He just had to do it.
âWhatcha doing Pete?â Tony asked right in his ear causing Peter to let out a high pitched scream and rip the VR headset off his head, nearly tossing it into the wall and only barely catching himself at the last second.
âWhat the fuck!â He exclaimed, panting and placing a hand over his racing heart â it was galloping under his fingertips. Tony, standing next to him with his hand extend like he was reaching out to touch Peter, had his face pinched up like he was trying not to laugh and failing spectacularly.
âWhat was that?â The man questioned, pulling the headset from Peterâs twitching fingers to set it down on the bed and safely out of reach lest Peter almost throw it again. âYou okay?â
âYou scared the shit out of me!â Peter told his mentor dramatically as his heart rate slowed to a more manageable rhythm. Damn he was so close to winning!
Tony quirked an eyebrow. âThought you had a tingle or something,â he said with a teasing tone and that was it, Peter was never letting Tony and May have lunch together again. Tingle⌠seriously? âWhat were you doing anyway?â Tony asked, picking the headset back up and turning it around curiously in dexterous fingers.
âPlaying FNAF,â Peter said with a shrug. âI had nearly won too!â
âBeg pardon?â Tony asked with a head tilt. âDid you just have a stroke? I donât speak teenager.â
âItâs a game Mr. Stark,â Peter grumbled, grabbing the headset back to turn it off. âA horror game. Youâre a security guard and you have to live through the night without a bunch of animatronic animals killing you.â
âSounds exhausting,â Tony commented, passing Peter his untouched book bag â he was supposed to be doing homework while Mr. Stark was in a meeting but oh well. He could always do it later, it was the weekend after all. âHappyâs pulling the car around. You sure you donât want to stay? Itâs getting a bit late.â
âIâm good,â Peter insisted, throwing the bag over his back and tightening the straps a little to sit more comfortably. âBesides, May and I are supposed to marathon the new season of Lucifer tonight.â
âAh yes,â Tony said with a smile. âDo tell aunt hottie I said hello would you? Iâm looking forward to our monthly co-parenting coffee date next week â canât wait to tell her about this!â
Peter groaned and blushed. âPlease donât,â he muttered, skirting around his mentor to get to the door. âSee you next week?â He asked as he paused in the doorway, turning back to look at the man and smiling.
âYeah Iâll see you next week kiddo. Donât have too much fun this weekend!â
âBye Mr. Stark!â Peter called as he raced to the elevator, bouncing impatiently on his toes as it descended to the garage where Happy was waiting in one of the many black town cars Stark Industries owned.
âTook you long enough,â he groused good naturedly as Peter hopped into the back, dropping his book bag into the foot well and buckling his seatbelt with a bright âhey Happy!â before pulling out his battered copy of The Collected Works of Shakespeare. He was supposed to finish MacBeth before class on Monday morning and he had been putting it off for a while (re: the last two weeks). Thank god for SparkNotes!
He read in the peaceful silence of the car as Happy navigated the busy Manhattan roads into the more quiet streets of Queens, finally pulling to a stop in front of Peterâs building and unlocking the doors. âSee you Monday kid,â he called as Peter jumped out of the car.
âThanks for the ride Happy!â Peter answered as he shut the door and waved the car off before letting out a sigh. It had been a long week and he was looking forward to just hanging out with May and decompressing. He felt like he barely saw her these days since she moved to working nights â it had been way too long since their last Netflix binge sesh. Peter took the stairs two at a time, forgoing the ancient and slow elevator, and was soon standing outside his door, fumbling for his keys.
As he went to slip the correct key into the lock, Peter felt every hair on his body stand on end as a shiver tore through him. He paused and looked up and down his hallway. Everything was quiet and peaceful, nothing out of place, so why was his Spidey sense tingling? With a gulp, Peter looked at his door and felt his heart freeze in his chest. May!
Peter swiftly unlocked the door and threw it open only to pause just over the threshold.
May was seated in one of their kitchen chairs, pulled into eye line of the door to the apartment, and looking pale but utterly pissed as the masked man behind her jammed the muzzle of his gun further into her temple. Peter, his heart nearly beating out of his chest and his adrenaline spiking to leave a metallic taste in his mouth, held his hands up immediately in surrender. As if it would ever be a question with May involved.
âClose the door,â the man said firmly, jutting his chin and Peter felt it snap closed behind him, paying no mind to the other invaders that were scattered around the room, his eyes stuck only on May.
âWhat do you want?â He asked, surprised that his voice was steady â he could tell that his body was still and sure but inside he felt like he was about to shake apart; like he was standing in the epicenter of an earthquake.
âYour cooperation mostly,â the man with the gun answered, passing the weapon off to one of his underlings and approaching where Peter stood motionless, hands still raised, just inside the door. His eyes were a pale blue and they scraped over Peterâs form quickly before he held out his hand. âPhone, watch, bag. Give me anything that Stark might have chipped and donât try anything funny. Iâd hate for anything⌠untoward to happen to your Aunt.â
âOkay,â Peter agreed, slowly pulling his bag off his shoulders and letting it drop to the floor with a thump. One of the men behind him picked it up and started riffling through it as Peter unlatched his watch and passed it over along with his phone. He was grateful that he hadnât brought his suit with him to school today or heâd have a much bigger problem â assuming they didnât already know he was Spider-Man of course.
âSearch him,â the man called out as he dropped Peterâs phone and watch to the floor before pointedly stomping on them until they broke. Peter fought to hold still as he was patted down, making eye contact with May. She gave a minute shake of her head and Peter bit his tongue hard enough to draw blood. He knew she didnât want him to compromise his identity for her but he would do whatever he could to keep her safe â Spider-Man be damned.
âHeâs clean,â one of the goons called out, nudging Peter forward and forcing him to sit down opposite May.
âPeter Parker,â the leader mused, walking over until he took up all of Peterâs sight leaving May out of view and ratcheting Peterâs already frantic heart rate up more. âTony Starkâs personal intern. How does one get that job eh?â He looked at Peter expectantly and Peter grit his teeth together.
âRight place right time,â Peter grunted, his eye contact never wavering. The leader frowned behind his mask and smacked Peter sharply, causing his head to whip to the side. It was more surprising than painful and Peter glared back in obvious loathing.
âThat will be your only warning,â the leader grunted, leaning down so he was eye level with Peter. âNext time itâll be your aunt. Do I make myself clear?â
âCrystal,â Peter confirmed, gripping the arms of his chair tightly and trying to control his strength. By his count there were five men in their apartment. If he were alone or in the suit it wouldnât be a problem but with May involvedâŚ
âNow letâs try again,â the man continued, pacing a circle around Peterâs chair like a shark circling prey and thus giving him the briefest chance to make eye contact with May again. The skin of her forehead was red and dented where the gun mashed into her face. But he eyes were full of fear and anger for Peter â her sight was locked on the cheek he could feel burning and already swelling. âHow did you get your internship?â
âSeptember Foundation,â Peter answered. âI submitted some of my work on clean energy and Mr. Stark was impressed enough to offer me the internship.â
The man hummed, stopping his circling and placed both hands on Peterâs shoulders, squeezing them. âBut itâs not just an internship anymore now is it?â He questioned, tone light. âI doubt any normal intern gets access to Starkâs personal lab or stays overnight. For a while I thought you might be his bastard but, no, it doesnât seem you are.â Peter tensed at the words and bit down hard on the inside of his cheek, tasting blood. âHowever you are important enough for him to pay handsomely for Iâd wager.â
âHe wonât,â Peter insisted, not breaking eye contact with May â she looked terrified now and he wasnât sure who she was scared for most. âHe doesnât negotiate with kidnappers.â
âWeâll see,â the man said lightly, unconcerned. âHereâs the deal Parker. Youâre going to come with us, quietly, and I wonât put a bullet through your auntâs skull. I hear that you watched your uncle bleed out from something similar â wouldnât want another death on your conscience now would you?â Peter flinched violently, unable to hold it back and felt tears prick at his eyes. He couldnât cry now. Not in front of these assholes. âYouâre going to come with us and, once we get you back to base, Iâll call in the order to let your aunt go. If they donât hear from me within the next six hours⌠well Iâm sure you can figure it out.â
Peter nodded slowly and tried to silently apologize to May â she was watching him with tears now cascading down her cheeks and shaking her head, begging him not to give in. âIâll do whatever you want,â Peter agreed, sealing his fate.
His Spidey-sense screamed at him and he forced himself to hold still as the gun clocked him across the temple, knocking him out instantly.
âââââââââââââ
When Peter finally woke up some indeterminate amount of time later it was to a throbbing head and aching neck from sitting slumped over and tied to the most uncomfortable chair he had ever had the displeasure of sitting in. He opened his eyes with a groan to look around the room. It was darkened, of course because why wouldnât it be, and empty, also not a surprise. The door in front of him was made of a dark metal the same as the chair he was sitting in which was bolted to the floor.
He tested the cuffs that were binding his wrists to each arm of the chair and found that they werenât reinforced and should break easily with his strength. So they didnât know he was Spider-Man then â that was a plus. Peter could work with that.
Before he could look around much more or even try to formulate a plan, the door in front of him flew open to admit multiple people, all in masks, and a camera set up that had Peterâs blood running cold.
âI have to thank you for your cooperation,â the man from earlier said gaily as he entered the room last. âYou made this much easier than anticipated.â
âMy aunt?â Peter asked, voice wobbling a little but his eye contact unwavering.
âFine. As we agreed,â the man confirmed, kneeling down a little to look directly into Peterâs eyes. âNow weâre going to make Stark a little video, a one-sided video chat if you will, to ask him for a little⌠monetary gift. All you have to do is sit here and look pretty while we do all the work okay?â He said condescendingly, running a hand through Peterâs hair before patting his cheek mockingly.
It took all of Peterâs willpower not to head butt him directly in the nose.
The set up was done fairly quickly, the camera pointed directly at Peter and the red light blinking. His captor came to stand right behind him, hands resting on Peterâs shoulders again.
âOh looks like heâs tuned it! Hello Stark, I think I found something that belongs to you,â the leader said, squeezing Peterâs shoulders. âYou shouldnât just leave your things lying around you know. Donât want them to get displaced.â Peter grit his teeth in irritation and humiliation â he couldnât believe he had let himself get kidnapped â that he had put Mr. Stark in this position! âAnyway,â he continued lightly, âI have a little request. A trade if you will. Iâll give you back your intern and you give me twenty million dollars and a clean way out of the country. Shouldnât be too hard for you right?â
Donât do it Peter tapped out on the arm of the chair in hasty Morse code. Donât give them anything. Iâve got this Peter tried to say with his eyes. Trust me.
âAnd just to show you we mean businessâŚâ Peter flinched when his index finger was grabbed and sharply snapped in half, leaving him breathless. He didnât scream though. He wasnât going to give them the satisfaction. âTough kid,â the leader mused, petting Peter on the head. âIâm going to let my men work him over,â he said to the camera lightly. âYou pay me within the next four hours and I wonât start cutting off things heâll miss. Sure would be a shame⌠heâs got his whole life ahead of him you know.â
Later, his jaw hanging loose and his body aching with breaks and bruises, Peter will let a single tear fall.
The door knob turns and his adrenaline spikes.

Sonally Celebration, Year Three, Day Five: Fading
Sonally Celebration Week, Year 3, Day Five: Fade
Well Day Five is already upon us. Dang time flies XD. This dayâs prompt had me mulling for a time, as itâs potential thematic resonance could align with the ideas I have for the final days; prompt theme. Outside of episode continuity (if Iâm not deciding on a completely unrelated one shot like one episode from last year), I usually avoid theme overlaps unless they can make for a good two-parter, so I wanted Fade to be different from Rest. What am I talking about? Well, youâll all see on day eight. ^_^
Day Five: Fade.
Foreword: This takes place one-to-three-ish years after Crossroads, and a return to the more domestic slice of life.
Two sets of feet march toward the couch in the spacious âliving roomâ area, where the two bodies belonging to said feet flop down onto the sofa with matching tired sighs. Each slide an arm around the other and lean in, cheek-to-cheek. Tired, bloodshot eyes meet, as a tired voice mutters. âKathy and J.C. tucked in bed?â
âCheck.â
âMonitor set-up if they wake up from a nightmare and need consoling?â
âCheck, we have one of Nicoleâs new A.I. âkidsâ watching their room. If either J.C. or Kathy wake up, or both, theyâll help them unless they ask for us.â
âUs tired as all hell?â
After a beat, both sigh and utter. âMega check!!â Groaning as she rolled to curl against Sonic, Sally sighed again. Her body and mind woefully tired from the day. âI love our angels, but they can be so exhausting.â
Grunting in agreement, Sonic gave her a squeeze from the arm around her waist. âDoesnât help theyâre both already getting the hang of their speedy-abilities. Is it wrong Iâm wishing they didnât inherit my speed now?â He really didnât, (his pride soared when it was clear they had his speed). However moments like these, he was considering how nice it would be for them to not have his super speed would be? Or the speed simply kicked in at puberty⌠or would that be worse?
âWe wish it werenât so today, but weâll change tunes when that speed is sorely needed for them.â Muttered Sally, sharing his thoughts, but her ever-present pragmatism won out over in-the-moment whimsy. A thin smile emerged from her tired expression. âThat said, I'm rather proud that theyâre starting to understand that running around the palace is a no-no. Starting to, being the key word.â
That elicited a chuckle from Sonic as he smiled back and made a pleased sound as she moved her hand up his back to rub the back of his neck. He leaned against the fingers rubbing the sore area that had bothered him most of the day. âMaybe weâll be lucky and that early maturity you had will kick in.â
âMmm, Iâm sensing a âbutâ somewhere in there my love.â She murmured, making her own soft âmurringâ as Sonic began to return the neck rub after moving his hand from around her waist to her neck. âOut with it Sonic.â
âHeh, got me pegged huh? Weeeell, you were mature for your age, but I donât want our kids to be fun-kill-joys either.â
âI was a fun-kill-joy?â She raised an eyebrow, applying a bit more pressure to the spot where neck and shoulder met, causing Sonic to yelp and twinge from the application of pressure. âI call it knowing some of the stuff you wanted to do would wind us in trouble.â
âH-hey, heeeeeeeey, you had your moments of sly ideas that did just that!â He wiggled to avoid her grip, now shifting his hand back to her side, but with tickling intent as his fingers shifted and wiggled about.
Snerking, and then breaking into several laughs, Sally let go, and squirmed. âPffft- n-no fair! T-two can play!â It was one and Sally sat up and pounced her husband, pinning him to the couch and letting her fingers fly over his body. Grinning widely, as tiredness gave way to playful-energy, Sally enjoyed herself thoroughly as she watched Sonic, her beloved, start to wiggle and laugh from her efforts.
âHahaha, ahaha! C-crap Sal, you wanna throw d-d-down donât you?â His emerald eyes gleam as the same burst of energy giving Sally a second wind coursed through him. Wiggling his fingers, his hands moved to strike; and with his super-speed applied: naturally he was able to cover more ground, much faster. As laughter erupted from Sally and she writhed and squirmed, his glee intensified. âYou were saying Sal-MMPFFH?â Sonicâs boast was cut off as Sally mashed her mouth to his. The surprise kiss threw him off, but only briefly. Letting out a low, needy moan, Sonic ceased tickling Sally and proceeded to wrap his arms around her, pulling her closer as their kiss intensified.
A low, purr-like sound uttered from Sallyâs throat, muffled as her lips were still thoroughly mashed against her husbandâs. The squirrel-chipmunk hybrid rubbed herself against him. Ruling a kingdom, being a loving-attentive spouse, and a parent was a tall order. They made it work; but quality, private time became more of a premium. Even tired as Sally felt, the burning need to feel Sonicâs loving embrace and âskilled handsâ hit her like a freight train. How long had it been since they last had a moment like this? Actually feeling the urge, the need to make love? Maybe that was why, but truly who cared what the exact reason was? The moment was here, seizing it was key.
As the kiss broke, Sallyâs breath hitched as Sonicâs mouth trailed down to her neck, and his hands rested on her posterior, before one hand grasped at her tail, which had been wiggling quite giddily as if to entice him. âS-Sonic, bedroom-ngh..â
âWhy not here?â He murred against her neck, giving her a squeeze with both hands.
She licked his ear and nipped at the tip, whispering in a throaty voice. âI donât want a repeat of last time; bedroom, door locked, you, me, on the bed, no clothes, ânowâ!â
Instead of his usual snappy retorts, Sonic processed her request, recalling âlast timeâ and only a big blanket prevented a truly awkward moment when one of the children woke up in the middle of the night. Hands move to scoop Sally up like the old days as he got off the sofa with her. It was a break of the rules, but he used a very-very small burst of his super-speed to zip to their room. His foot pushed the door closed, while Sally quickly hit the lock mechanism on the doorknob. A quick toss sent Sally onto the bed, and Sonic quickly joining her, both eagerly helping the other disrobe.
(Sorry folks keeping this PG-13 XD so fade to black!)
Once their bodily and spirit-rejuvenating needs were met, Sonic and Sally lay on the bed, tangled together. As they tried to catch their breath, each would out of parental-paranoia, check the monitor to the kidâs bedroom. No notifications, which meant the kids hadnât woken up even once to go to the bathroom. A good sign they were sleeping through the night without ânightly accidentsâ occurring. Even after a quick (for them) bout of love-making, being a parent never strayed from their minds.
Satisfied they didnât need to redress soon, and attend to any nightly needs, the two sigh in content bliss. âIt goes without saying Sal, we âneededâ that.â
âMmm-hmmm.â She practically purred as she nuzzled against his upper chest as she draped over him partially. âStill got it.â She smirked, trailing a finger in a circle around the circular belly-fur of her husband.
âHa, boy howdy!â Cackled Sonic as he lifted a hand tiredly for a high-five, which Sally gladly reciprocated. âWhoever said after 30 your love-life with kids dries up is an Fâing idiot.â
âClearly someone who didnât have a successful romance with their marriage.â Mused Sally, before a yawn tore from her throat. Curling into Sonicâs side, and pulling the covers over them. Sally felt the siren song of sleep, and was ready to greet it. âWe should sleep while we can.â
Yawning himself, Sonic slipped an arm around Sonic, planting a kiss to her forehead, he twisted his body to better meet her own as they got comfortable. âYeah, gânight Sal, love ya.â
âLove you too Sonic, *yawn* sleep well.â As another yawn left her, Sally closed her listening to Sonicâs heart-beat, and breathing. She could tell he was already out from the sounds he made, he didnât snore, not really or fully. His breathing just became more âfreeâ if such a word could describe it. His heartbeat also steadied, still paced but clearly at ease. Such a rhythm helped her slowly fade from consciousness and soon, the warm embrace of sleep took Sally. Leaving only the sounds of both Sonic and her own breathing filling the darkness of their bedroom.

First of all, I know it seems like I have abandoned my fanfic writing, but I promise you, that isnât true. I was actually working on I Promise to Kiss You the other night, and I am SO close to posting that final chapter! BUT, I must confess that Josiah and Kate from my book The One Who Sees Me have just been invading my muse. Tuesday night, this story just poured out of me.
I talked about this on my Facebook Live, but one part of Josiahâs personality that was really important to me was that he is safe. A man being safe is almost a bad word in rom-coms and romance novels, but it shouldnât be. Men should absolutely be safe. Women should feel safe in their arms, safe sharing their hearts, safe enough to completely be themselves. So here is a story told from Josiahâs point of view in which he ponders how important it is to him that his wife feel safe. Oh, and some fluffy marital bliss and domesticity.
Rated: M for a married couple being open and free about sex, I guess, just to be safe, but itâs only discussed, not portrayed
Words: 1,300 and some change
Oh, and you can get a copy of The One Who Sees Me here , if youâre interested.

Josiah Barrett was distracted. Not because he didnât want to hear his wife tell him about her day. On the contrary, he looked forward to reconnecting over dinner. Or reconnecting as much as a one year old flinging peas on the floor allowed. He honestly didnât understand men who complained about their wives always wanting to talk. There was no one he enjoyed having a conversation with more than Kate. It had always been that way.
No, he was distracted because his head was full of plans for Valentineâs Day. A few months ago, he and Kate had purchased a ârekindle the romance kitâ recommended in a coupleâs devotional they were reading together. Not that he felt in the least that the spark was gone. Kate turned him on just walking into the room at times. It was just that ever since Haley was born, they found they had to be more intentional when it came to their relationship. Hence scheduled date nights, the coupleâs devotional . . .
And the romance âkit.â
The rule of the kit was simple - open an envelope and follow the instructions to create a romantic moment with your spouse. No excuses, no skipping cards, no matter how awkward it made you feel. The pink cards were for the husband to do for his wife while the red cards were for the wife to do for her husband. They usually took turns planning their dates using the cards, but for Valentineâs Day, they had both opened one. Thatâs what had Josiah so distracted.
He couldnât stop mulling over his plans for the next evening. While he and Kate shared dinner at a restaurant, his brother was going to decorate their car like he had on their wedding day. Only, instead of âjust married,â Micah was going to write âhappily married.â On the way home, Josiah was going to take a detour to Founderâs Park, where he had proposed all those years ago and dance with Kate just like he had then to âHeroâ by Enrique Iglesias - their song.
Kate was going to love it, and he was giddy with excitement.
A loud, clattering sound startled him out of his reverie. Haley squealed loudly and slapped the tray of her high chair. Josiah laughed.
âShe threw her sippy cup. Again.â
He glanced at Kate as he bent to retrieve the cup. She was staring nervously at her plate, pushing peas around with her fork.
âIâm sorry,â he apologized. âI havenât been listening, have I?â
She gave him a wane smile. âItâs not that. I know teething isnât exactly a riveting topic.â
Haley took the cup from his hand and started sucking down the water inside. Good - maybe they had a minute or two reprieve from the cup throwing game.
âWhat is it then?â
Kate bit her lip and blinked as if holding back tears. After a long pause, she blurted out, âI canât do it!â
He frowned with concern. âDo what?â
She dropped her fork with a clatter and pressed both hands to her face. âThe card,â she mumbled behind her fingers, âfor Valentineâs Day.â
He said nothing, trying to process her words. Haley fussed, and on auto-pilot, he sprinkled some snack puffs onto the high chair tray to distract her.
Kate ran her hands through her hair as she looked up at him. âI know it says not to skip cards, but I canât, Josiah. I just canât.â
Now he was alarmed. He was always careful to be a patient and tender lover with Kate, knowing she had been victimized in her young, innocent years. The cards for wives were always sexual in nature, but it was a Christian product, so nothing had been inappropriate. So far, anyway. Kate had been emboldened by the cards to get past her shyness: dancing for him, initiating sex, making love in unique places around the house, but none of it ever seemed to upset her. She would blush and giggle, and he would assure her that he found her incredibly sexy, but he had never seen her afraid.
Was she afraid? That was one thing he never, ever wanted her to feel with him.
He realized he had been quiet for too long when she started speaking again in a hurried, nervous tone. âIt just grosses me out. I mean, the thought of doing it makes me physically repulsed. Can I please pick another card? Or just do my own thing?â
Good Lord above, what was on this card?
âWhat does it want you to do?â he whispered, then he inwardly berated himself.
It shouldnât matter, you idiot! She clearly doesnât feel comfortable doing it!
âIt wants me to let you . . . â she hesitated for a beat, then blurted out, âeat fruit off my
body!â
At first, he was rendered speechless. That had not been what he had expected. Well, he wasnât really sure what heâd expected, but it certainly wasnât fruit.
âItâs just so . . . sticky,â she added, wrinkling her nose in an adorable way.
Then he couldnât help it - he burst out laughing. Haley startled, dropped her cup again, then joined her Daddy with gleeful belly laughs despite having no clue what was so funny. At first Kate gaped at him, which only made him laugh more. Soon, she was chuckling too. They laughed and laughed until tears rolled down their cheeks and they could scarcely breathe.
âFruit?â he finally gasped. âYou had me so worried, and then itâs all about fruit?â
âDonât laugh,â she giggled. She rolled her eyes at him and tossed a wadded up napkin at his head. âYou know how I feel about food fights.â
He did. Every time they saw one on TV or in a movie, it grossed her out. The thought of ketchup in her hair or mashed potatoes down her shirt made her shiver with revulsion. âYou know somebody has to clean that up,â she would always say.
âCome here,â he told her, opening up his arms. She blushed sheepishly as she rose from her chair and rounded the kitchen table. She curled up on his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck.
âKate,â he told her, brushing her hair off her forehead and tucking it behind her ear, âall I need is you to be perfectly satisfied. If anything - anything at all - makes you feel uncomfortable, please tell me. I never want you to feel that way when weâre intimate, even if itâs just something like sticky fruit.â
She smiled down at him, cupping his jaw with one hand, a picture of perfect contentment. Just as he longed for her to feel with him.
âI love you,â she lowered her lips to his and kissed him thoroughly, running her fingers through his hair.
âI love you too,â he replied huskily when she finally pulled away.
âMy alternate plan is to feed you chocolate covered strawberries.â
âI like that plan.â
She kissed him again, but then they were interrupted by Haleyâs squeals. The sight of their daughter had them both laughing again.
âSweetheart,â Josiah told his wife, âI donât think our daughter shares your opinion on food fights.â
Their one year old had mashed up her peas and then rubbed it into her hair. With a half chuckle, half groan, Kate got off Josiahâs lap and went to unbuckle their daughter from her high chair.
âWhich would you rather clean?â he asked his wife. âThe chair or the baby?â
âThe baby, definitely.â
He watched his wife, her strawberry blonde hair in a messy bun on top of her head, no makeup, clad in yoga pants and an oversized t-shirt. She balanced their daughter on her hip as she wiped tiny hands and cheeks with a baby wipe. Her smile was bright and her eyes sparkled as she spoke lovingly to their child. Despite the messy peas still in the tiny girlâs fine hair, Kate pressed a sloppy kiss to the babyâs freshly wiped, chubby cheek, making Haley giggle. Josiahâs heart swelled with love for this woman: his best friend, his wife, the mother of his child. He stepped forward and pressed a kiss to the crown of her head.
âWhat was that for?â she asked him.
âLike I said, I just need you.â

Sunburn [Prince Zuko] 11
Warnings: None  Rating: PG-13  Pairings: Zuko/OC  Summary:  âYou have everything youâve ever wanted.â âNo.â He said softly. âNot everythingâŚâ  His golden eyes looked at her with a melting intensity she had never witnessed before. âI guess not.â She responded with glassy eyes as tears welled up threatening to break the dam of her eyes.
My fanfiction: M A S T E R L I S T
Zuko growled as he fell out of the bushes with leaves sticking to his clothes. His pack was to his uncle as he picked the flora that had stuck to him.
"I didn't find anything to eat! I can't live like this! I wasn't meant to be a fugitive!" Zuko shouted as he threw royal tantrum tossing his hands in the air and yelling at the sky, "This is impossible!"
Silence was his only response as Iroh ignored him. He frowned then turned around to look at his uncle, who wasn't paying any attention to him and was instead crouching beside a small bush with large red and white orchid like flower stemming from it.
"Uncle, what are you doing?" Zuko asked in exasperation as he walked over to look at the flower his uncle was apparently so enamored with. "Where's Tsai? She said we'd meet us back here before the sunset," he put his hands on his waist and sighed his exasperation growing with each passing moment.
It had been a couple of weeks since the prince, his uncle and the banished daughter of the Vice Royal family of You Dao had officially gone into hiding. The three had barely managed to scrape from Azula's vile hands. It didn't help that Zuko complained about everything.
xxx
"Do you HAVE to complain about everything?" Tsai had said to him more than irritated with his pessimistic attitude.
"I wan't meant for this life," The prince added in a snotty tone.
Honestly he could be such a spoiled brat sometimes. "Ho! Sorry your highness," she taunted with a smirk. "I didn't know you were so sensible about a camping trip."
"You call this a camping trip?!" He snapped at her in a fiery tantrum.
"Five Stars," the girl retorted sarcastically rolling her eyes. "Of course not! But we are fugitives. And none of us have anywhere to go so there's no use in complaining."
"She's right," Iroh added wisely as they walked together.
xxx
"You're looking at the rare white dragon bush. Its leaves make a tea so delicious, it's heartbreaking." Iroh said as he doted over the flower placing both hands over his chest. His eyebrow knitted as he frowned for a moment and sat thoughtfully, "That, or it's the white jade, which is poisonous." He scratched his beard as he pondered on that thought.
"We need food, not tea." Zuko snapped as he rolled his eyes at his uncle. "Wait here for Tsai!" Zuko ordered. "I'm going fishing..." He declared.
"Hmm... delectable tea?" Iroh mused ignoring the young prince. Both of his eyes enamored by the rare orchid flower before him. He gave the plant a suspicious look, "Or deadly poison?"
Xxx
Zuko rolled up the bottom of his pants as he prepared himself to step into the cold creek before him. On one hand he held a sharpened staff he had prepared to stab his future lunch. He stepped into the water and focused his sight on the small fish that swam the current by his feet.
"Stupid fish...." He grumbled to himself as he stabbed the water in an attempt to catch something. Anything. Who would've thought that fishing was so hard. He had been fishing for a while and was about to call it quits when something caught his eye. Something glimmering in the water. It was moving against the current and in between his feet the object was catching and reflecting a flickering light. He lowered his guard and his stick bending over to pick up whatever that was. It went under his feet. It was then that he felt a pair of palms press to his back and the next thing he knew he had fallen face first into the cold creek. He sat in the water, spitting some out a deep scowl on his face. A fish even leapt from the water and mocked him by slapping his face with its fins.
Tsai stood inside the stream as well. She was bent over from laughing so hard. She had officially shed her old clothes and now wore a pair of tight dark brown pants, a dry lime green earth kingdom shirt that reached just above her elbows and had a golden trim with a matching ribbon wrapping it around her waist with two long strange to the side. She had gotten rid of her long sleeves and displayed her fighting gauntlets that covered most of her lowered arm and the back of her palms. She still wore her old above the knee boots and sunstone choker. She had repeatedly refused to cut her hair and instead wore it wrapped up in a tight bun on the nape of her neck and a conical hat which was traditional to the are and hid most of her hair without the exception of several whips of bangs that stuck out.
"Looks like you almost caught one!" She laughed loudly clenching her stomach which ached from laughing so hard.
She pulled a string that had been tied to an Earth Kingdom coin and held it between her thumb and index fingers. "I can't believe you fell for that," she teased with a cheesy grin..
Zuko glared. 'Could she be any more annoying?'
"Maybe if you spent half as much time looking for food instead of playing practical jokes on me, maybe we wouldn't be starving!" He shot back extremely irritated.
"Take it down a notch, your highness" She emphasized his title with dripping sarcasm. Zuko could be such a diva sometimes. She rolled her eyes and patted a small sack she kept slung around her shoulder. "Found plenty of berries and nuts." He glared. "Come on," She extended her hand to help him up.
He kept his head lowered focused on her feet.
"Let's get back to Uncle Iroh before he worries about us."
He took her hand and she pulled his weight up. Or at least tried to. She missed the smallest and slyest of smirks that made way to his face. As he pulled her down into the water. His foot kicked hers out of balance and she fell face first in the most karmic way. Soaked to the bone she turned to glare at him and realized he was actually laughing. She had never seen or even heard Zuko laugh, it was an odd sight. So odd for an inexplicable reason it was contagious.
"You know, you should do that more often," she said with a sincere smile. The kind of smile that touches your heart. "Have fun."
It was almost as if a switch had gone off. Just like that his laughter ceased and he rose to his feet with a stoic expression on his face.
"I don't have time for fun." He stated looking away. She raised an eyebrow. Suddenly distracted by a brushing by her knee  in the water. She looked down and stabbed through a fish with her hidden blade.
"What do you know? I caught one!"
Xxx
"Mine's totally bigger than yours," Tsai continued to push his buttons. She was proud of the medium sized fish she had caught. "Is not," the other retorted. He was basically stomping back into the small clearing where he had left his uncle with the orchid flower before he had gone fishing, the long branch he had used as a fishing pole resting against his shoulder while a very tiny fish flapping about helplessly on the sharp end. "You call that a fish? Looks more like a shrimp," she laughed at his puny fish. "It's not! Since when are you the expert fisherwoman? First you're a nature fanatic now this?" He glared. "Woah," she retorted. "So touchy about size, it's almost as if you were compensating for something else..." She muttered the last part evilly. "What did you say?!" The other bickered back flustered, his face turning red.
"Zuko, remember that plant that I thought might be tea?" Iroh called out sheepishly without turning around to look at the two teenagers. They instantly snapped out of their childish banter.
Zuko's brow furrowed slightly when he saw his uncle still hunched over in front of the plant with his back to then. He was standing terribly still. Tsai raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"You didn't..." Zuko groaned in exasperation.
'Oh No...'
"I did." Iroh responded then started to turn around, "And it wasn't..."
Zuko gasped and recoiled back sharply when his uncle turned around fully, revealing himself to be largely swollen and covered in a bright red rash which stretched in patches all over his body.
"White Jade poison..." Tsai groaned out annoyed.
"When the rash spreads to my throat, I will stop breathing." Iroh explained in a surprisingly calm voice as he scratched at his cheek for a moment then he stood and walked over to the teenagers and showed them a branch with white berries, "But look what I found. These are bacui berries, known to cure the poison of the white jade..."
Iroh's excited voice trailed off for a moment then he continued unenthusiastically, "That, or maka'ole berries that cause blindness..."
"These are maka'ole berries," Tsai said snatching the branch of white berries from Iroh's hand and tossing it over her shoulder and into the woods with an annoyed look on her face. "That's it! We're not taking any more chances with these plants!" Zuko snapped angrily. "We need to get help."
"Here," Tsai kneeled before Iroh. She pulled out her wet satchel ad pulled out a handful of white berries. "You're lucky I found some bacaui berries. These should take care of the the White Jade poison."
"Wait!" Zuko stopped her. "How do you know?" He asked placing a hand on her shoulder. "Easy," she said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "The stem of bacaui berries is green, the one of maka'ole berries is red. Here's an easy way to remember. 'If you're green you're in the clear, if you're red then you're dead.'"
Zuko processed this for a moment and she thought he as looking for any petty comeback but instead stood silent, "Brilliant."
Tsai ordered Iroh to eat the berries. She was going to brew the plants leaves to make a tea which would be more effective in concentrated amounts and went back returned for more berries. Some which she was currently mashing into a pulp between two rocks.
The three currently sat under the shade of a medium sized tree which was near the stream where Zuko and Tsai had been fishing in earlier.
"How do you know so much about herbology?" Zuko suddenly asked as he ate some of the berries she had brought back with her. Iroh sat leaning against the tree shirtless. He presently sipped on some of the tea Tsai had brewed for him.
"Tea," she answered with a casual shrug. "I guess I just picked up the knowledge about herbalism when learning about different plants and herbs." "You do wrong in underestimating the value of tea Prince Zuko," Iroh said wisely.
"I accidentally poisoned my whole family once when I made some Oleander tea," she said sheepishly with a small laugh. At the time it had been scary consider they almost died, she was just glad that she could laugh at it now.
"I would like to go into town," she said after a moment. "I'm sure you're not the first or last person to become poisoned by a white jade and we could sell these berries to a local apothecary."
Iroh was impressed. Never would he have imaged that the Vice Royal Governor's daughter had such a knack for herbology. It trully was a blessing in disguise.
"But where are we going to go?" Iroh asked he began to scratch his fading rash, "We're enemies of the Earth Kingdom and fugitives of the Fire Nation."
Zuko folded his arms over his chest and cupped his chin in thought, "If the Earth Kingdom discovers us, they'll have us killed."
Right. That was a fact.
"But if the Fire Nation discovers us, we'll be turned over to Azula." Iroh added as he stood up and scratched at his arm.
The three paused and looked at each other for a moment then nodded in agreement.
"Earth Kingdom it is." Zuko muttered and walked away, Tsai followed with Iroh trailing after them, still scratching his rash vigorously.
xxx
"You must not be from around here." A young woman with dark hair said in slight amusement as she handed Tsai back some coins for the herbs she had brought to her. She was close enough that she could see some red strands sticking out from under her hat.
"Your hair, I've never seen such a pretty color," she commented while looking at Tsai's hair.
Feeling self conscious she simply smiled politely and nodded. Iroh had been right. She had to do something about her hair, the length and the color were such a striking contrast to those of the Earth Kingdom.
"So where are you traveling from?" The girl pressed curiously as she glanced over at the three strangers that stood before her.
Zuko stood nervously, "Yes, we're travelers."
"Do you have names?" The girl questioned. Tsai was ready to leave. She didn't feel like answering any more questions or even lingering around.
"Names? Of course we have names..." Zuko stuttered with apprehension, "I'm, uh...Lee ," Tsai almost face palmed. 'Idiot', of course he picked the most common name in the Fire Nation. "And this is my Uncle Mushi and-" He looked at the auburn hair girl standing next to him. "Ding-Ding," she felt the corner of her eye twitch in irritation at the ridiculous name. Both turned to shoot him an annoyed look. However, Iroh smiled pleasantly at the girl who was attending them.
"Yes, my nephew was named after his father, so we just call him Junior." Iroh said then leaned to the side and shot Zuko a pleased smile. "Yeah, excuse him. He was dropped on his head as a child," she glared. "Right Lee-ly pad?""
Zuko's eyebrow twitched slightly and he glared at both the girl and his uncle them moved his finger across his throat, signaling that Iroh both were dead meat but the scarred prince stopped instantly when the girl in the counter turned to look at him.
"Well, we best get going. It's been a pleasure," Tsai turned on her heel.
"Mushi, Ding-Ding and Junior, huh. My name is Song. You look like you could use a good meal." The girl introduced herself then she glanced at Iroh and swatted at his arm when he started scratching his rash again, "Why don't you stay for dinner?"
"Sorry, but we need to be moving on." Tsai responded carefully as she looked away from the girl's gaze. "Yeah," Zuko added.
"That's too bad." Song replied as she smiled innocently at the group, "My mom always make too much roast duck."
'Oh no..'
Iroh's eye lit up excitedly and he grinned widely at the girl, "Where do you live exactly?"
Zuko sighed and closed his eyes, resisting the temptation to smack his forehead in exasperation. The corner of Tsai's eye twitched a little more intensely.
xxx
"My daughter tells me you're refugees." Song's mother commented as she placed a platter of roast duck on the table then took a seat across from Iroh at the table in the open-wall dining room, "We were once refugees ourselves."
"When I was a little girl, the Fire Nation raided our farming village." Song said , her voice sad as she looked at Zuko from under her lashes, "All the men were taken away. That was the last time I saw my father."
Tsai felt something churn inside of her. It was that guilt she now bore with her. Her sense of nationalism was fading... The Fire Nation.. She thought about what would happen if Song and her mother knew who they really were... The Fire Nation was vile... The thought hurt her. It hit close to home. To her identity to the only fatherland she had ever known.
Then she saw something that made both of her eyes narrow. Song placed a hand on Lee's shoulder and Tsai sat stiffly the edge of her lip twitching with a slightly grimace.
'Was she- was she flirting with Zuko? ' Once again she could feel the edge of her eye twitching with annoyance a tic she hoped wouldn't become a habit. She turned to glare at the prince sitting besides her. 'I mean- he looked very handsome with his new haircut, but so what?' She thought smugly.
"I haven't seen my father in many years." Zuko stated quietly as he glanced off to the side.
The air in the table felt heavy. The conversation had clearly shifted to a darker tone. A more vulnerable one. Tsai slurped her tea loudly and very rudely. All eyes turned to look at her. "What?" She snapped rudely. "I haven't seen my family either," she said in what almost sounded like a scoff.
"Oh?" Song questioned as she looked at them Zuko curiously, "Are your family's fighting the war?"
Zuko hesitated to answer. Iroh watched carefully from the corner of his eye as he slurped up a bowl of noodles. "Something like that," Tsai retorted ominously glaring at the pretty woman across the table.
The conversation shifted to tea and herbalism and eventually Zuko stood up to leave the room. Some moments later Song stood up and also exited the room following after him. Tsai panicked not wanting to leave them alone. When Song's mother suddenly reached for her hair.
"Such pretty hair, dear." She said politely as she twirled a strand of the red-auburn hair between her fingers. "I've never seen such a color."
She immediately tensed. She had removed her hat not to be rude during the dinner, but had now decided it had been a terrible idea. She really had to do something about it... The conversation shifted about hair colors for a while. Tsai just wanted it to be over.
xxx
Zuko sat cross-legged on the front porch of Song's house, looking out at the trees that surrounded the property. The sliding door suddenly opened and Song stepped out lightly sliding the door behind her.
"Can I join you?" She asked then walked over to Zuko without waiting for a reply, "I don't think your girlfriend likes me very much," she said with a polite smile. He was about to correct her but instead only shook his head in denial and went silence.
"I know what you've been through. We've all been through it."
She sat cross-legged beside him and her eyes flicked over Zuko's scar for a moment then she turned her head to face him a little more.
"The Fire Nation has hurt you." Song said quietly then she reached up to touch his scar.
Zuko caught her wrist and pushed her hand away without looking at her. Song folded her hands in her lap and looked at him for a moment then closed her eyes.
"It's okay. They've hurt me, too." She said compassionately then shifted right leg out from under her and pulled her pant leg up, revealing a large scar on her lower leg.
Zuko's good eye widenned slightly as he stared at the large burn in surprise then he looked up at her curiously.
Suddenly the door was almost ripped opened. There appeared to be an ominous air around Tsai. Something different about the way she was carrying herself tonight. Zuko thought she was acting extremely weird.
"Ah, great meal. Need to walk. Indigestion you know?" She spoke quickly as she with exaggerated movements stretched her arms around her body and rubbed her stomach dramatically before letting out a nervous laugh. "Oh? What are you two doing?" She asked in a faux saccharine tone as she forcefully squeezed in and sat between them.
'Why is.. Tsai acting so weird?' Zuko thought oddly as he looked at her with a strange expression. She immediately straightened her back and a hand through her hair nervously. "So is it true that a duck's quack can't echo?
Tsai would never admit it out loud and less to another human being, but jealousy...
Let's just say it wasn't one of her best traits.
Some painful moments later. Iroh finally stepped out.
"Thank you for the duck." He said with a smile as he Tsai and Zuko stood outside of Song and her mother's house, "It was excellent." He lightly bowed in gratitude.
"You're welcome." Song's mother stated with a warm smile as she handed Iroh a parcel of leftover roast duck and rice, "It brings me pleasure to see someone eat my cooking with such...gusto."
Iroh patted his stomach in a contented manner, "Much practice."
Zuko resisted the urge to roll his eyes and turned to leave but Iroh stopped him. Tsai was ready to go. She was grateful for the meal. However she did not like Song or her mother, in the very least. Her jealousy greatly influencing her emotions.
"Junior, Ding-Ding where are your manners?" The older man chided softly as he tugged on both of their sleeves, "You need to thank these nice people."
Zuko turned back around and bowed to the two women, "Thank you." Tsai simply bowed a small scowl on her face.
"I know you don't think there's any hope left in the world, but there is hope." Song told Zuko as he continued to walk away, "The Avatar has returned."
Zuko paused at the small gate that surrounded the yard and glanced over his shoulder at the young woman.
The Avatar. Iroh noticed how the girl from the colonies also tensed up at the word her posture automatically becoming more stuff at the trigger word. 'The Avatar...' Maybe... Zuko was right. Maybe the only way to get everything back was by capturing the Avatar. Maybe then would they be pardon. Maybe then would she be able to return home to her family. After all what was her dream of having an equalist nation when there was nobody to share it with?
"I know." He muttered bitterly then he opened the gate and continued walking with Iroh trailing behind him. Tsai flashed her a mean glare. Afterwards she left a little guilty and her expression softened. She didn't mean to be so rude, it's just that sometimes. Her thoughts just. Again, jealousy was not her best trait.
Zuko stopped walking when he heard the ostrich-horse tied to a post a few feet away from the gate. The banished prince hesitated a moment then quietly walked over to the animal and untied the reins from the post. He led the ostrich-horse away from post then mounted it and rode it over to where his uncle and Tsai were standing.
"What are you doing?" Iroh demanded quietly as Zuko rode up beside him, "These people just showed you great kindness." "Yeah, are you nuts?" The girl said crossing her arms over her chest.
"They're about to show us a little more kindness." Zuko retorted calmly as he waited for his uncle to climb into the saddle, "Well?"
Iroh sighed in disappointment then reluctantly climbed into the saddle behind his nephew.
"Come on Ding-Ding, get on, you're only slowing us down." "Call me that again and I'll make you regret it Junior." She growled out. "And I'm not getting on that thing-" she said turning and walking away from the ostrich-horse. "Tsai, come on. Don't be difficult," he urged the ostrich-horse forward, unbeknownst to the fact that Song was watching them leave from a small crack in the sliding door. The young woman looked down sadly then closed the screen door silently.

The Caged Bird Moans (pt 4)
Pairing: Diego Jimenez/f!Reader (Power - Starz)
Word Count: ~1300
Warnings: Â It's a bit Stockholm syndromey, but that's not a real thing anyway (look it up). Not exactly non-con, but it skirts the idea, so if power disparities aren't your jam, please move along. It just real dirty. SMUT!
Personal ramble: Would anyone actually react like this to the situation I've set forth? No. But just as the pizza guy is never hot and doesn't offer you his extra sausage, this is porn people! So suspend your disbelief and don't hate on me for my bullsh*t.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
You wake the next morning exhausted, satisfied, confused and conflicted.
The bed next to you is empty and you reach over to see if it's still warm. It's not, and you don't know what you'd expected. A busy man like him obviously can't afford to sleep in with so much business to attend to. Including the business of your return you suppose.
You pick up your routine of starting the day off with a shower. When you get out, you go to the bag of clothes to pick out something to wear, but you find it's gone. You do a cursory search of the room and can't find it when you notice a black silk blend men's dress shirt on the dresser. It's the only item of clothing in the room, so you put it on, carefully buttoning it to the top. It's only after you get "dressed" that you notice the door is slightly ajar. You peak out nervously and the door creaks a little, startling you. There's no one there.Â
"Come out little bird." You hear that strong, no nonsense voice echo through the expansive penthouse.Â
You practically tiptoe out of the room, heart racing just in case you misunderstood what was happening, afraid you'd be tossed back into your cage. But you make it out to the expansive living area to see Diego sitting on the couch, coffee and breakfast in front of him. You dimly register that there's a second coffee and breakfast beside it and you cock your head confused. There's no one else around.
"There's my good girl." He says, rubbing a napkin over his mouth, pulling it downwards over his greying beard.
"You're finally awake. I guess I gave you quite a workout last night." He smirks with pride.
"You certainly did." You're about to say, but swallow the words instead.
He smiles that charming smile with the confidence that masks his cruelty, his boyish dimples betraying the predator underneath. For a moment you had forgotten he was your captor, capable of atrocities you dare not imagine.
"Unbutton the top three buttons of my shirt, you look like a nun." He says. A pantsless nun you muse to yourself as you expose your cleavage.
He pats the sofa next to him. "Come, have breakfast with me." Though it sounds like a suggestion you remember that you have no say in the matter.Â
You pad barefoot and bare bottomed over to the couch and take your place next to him. You eye him carefully for a moment, wary that it's some kind of trap.Â
He turns to you and rips a piece of croissant into his mouth with a little extra force for your benefit. His eyes are laughing at the way your breathing wavers.
"You're scared of me, and you should be." He says as he swallows the bite. "But I won't harm you, you're my girl now." He says with a sense of ownership. He reaches over and grabs your chin between his forefinger and thumb, forcing you to look him in the eyes. "I promise."Â
You believe him. He does nothing to hide his lavish tastes, his illegal activities, his willingness to take a life, or even his own body. There's an openness about him. What you see is what you get.
"Ok Diego, I believe you." You say softly.
"Good." He says, satisfied with your answer. He turns to face the wall opposite the couch and picks the remote up off the coffee table. He turns on the massive wall mounted television and after a couple of minutes unexpectedly settles on the news.
You're reminded that there's an entire world outside, but find yourself disinterested in it. You realize you're an addict now, not of his plentiful product, but of the man who controls its flow.
"You're breakfast is getting cold." He says with a nod of his chin.
You're broken from your thoughts, and you tuck into the meal before you.
You both eat in silence, letting the tv fill the room with noise and when you finish you relax back into the couch. As he wipes his face and downs the last dregs of his coffee he turns to you. His eyes are still hungry and you are clearly dessert.
Oh.
"If you're gonna be my girl, you have to give yourself to me, morning, noon, and night." His eyes are lidded as he says it.
Oh.Â
You're in trouble again.
"Yes Diego. For you, anything."
A small voice in the back of your head screams "What are you doing?!" "Anything!?" But it is silenced by his soft lips, and gruff facial hair sweeping your face. You sigh.
He pulls back to look into your eyes, knowing full well he is your master now. You weave your hands into the hair at the base of his neck and he crashes his kiss onto your lips.Â
As his hands explore your body you reciprocate and each muscle you touch that meets your hands with firmness makes you a little wetter between your thighs.
You go to straddle him. But he pushes you away.
"No." He says firmly. "I'm going to take you from behind."
Your mouth opens at the demand and he grabs your hips. He turns you around so you're facing away from him, lengthwise on the couch. You put your elbows on the cushion and arch your back to present your naked ass to his needy erection. He frees it from his jeans and boxers quickly and with force. He peels the black shirt over his head and throws it aside. He kneels down on the couch behind you, then he grabs your hips and pulls them to line up with his.
"Please Diego, please." You beg. And he slides his cock into you. You feel every turgid inch fill you with warmth and he hits even deeper within you than the night before.
He slams into you and you hear the wet slapping against your juicy folds. As he finds his rhythm you moan at each hit. He slaps your ass twice and each time he does, you tighten around him.
The elevator dings and you hear someone get off. You're startled, and you clench, being caught in the act. Debasing yourself for this beast that rides you.
"Don't you dare stop." He commands through clenched teeth.
He clearly loves an audience and you're so wrapped up in the pleasure that you don't even mind.
As he hits that glowing spot inside of you again and again, your legs begin to falter. He grips your hips even tighter and thrusts even faster.
You close around him as his cock demands your orgasm. It shreds through you and you bury your head below you and muffle a scream into the cushion.
He wraps his strong hand around your hair, grabs it as a ponytail and yanks your head back. "I want to hear what I'm doing to you." He growls, not missing a beat.
You scream again as he hits the same spot and sends searing lightning through your nerves.
You feel him lean forward mashing his hands into your hips. Squeezing you like he wants to extract all of your juices.
He cums loud and hard and you revel in what you've done to him. He pulls back out of you and you shudder at his loss.
You collapse on the couch on your side, facing the open room, shirt still on but wrinkled and askew. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Diego get dressed and address the man who got off the elevator.
You don't really hear what is said, but you take it as your cue to clear out. You return to your room on wobbly legs and decide a nap is in order.Â

My Love
Chapter 5: No Air
Series Premise: With a six week old daughter, Liam finds himself suddenly widowed. When the Royal Council demands he find a new queen and endure another social season, he gets a little help from someone unexpectedâhis late wife.
Pairing: Liam x Riley
Warnings: Implied thoughts of suicide.
âââââ-
Liam stirred mashed potatoes around his plate; making careless trails of tine grooves that ran across his plate into his roast lamb and asparagus. He could hear Drake speaking to him about a new development on the boardwalkâbut wasnât really listening. While he nodded and gave a half hearted smile so that his friend didnât think he was rude, Liam lifts his glass of scotch, taking two quick sips, wishing to hell it would finally numb his tortured mind and take him away for a few hours. Normally, the drink would leave him refreshed and relaxed, perhaps even incapacitated, yet he hadnât felt its much desired effects since that night. The night he worked late while his wife tantalized him with texts of want and desire for him. The night he kissed every inch of her velvety, smooth skin and their bodies intertwined with unspeakable passion and devotion to one another. The night death stealthily entered into his bedroom, robbed him mercilessly of every truth he ever believed in and left behind nothing but bitter lies. It was the night Liam watched his purpose and meaning drift away into nothing.Â
There is no perfect way to explain how it feels to lose someone. Liam dreaded being asked several times each day by friends and staff, how he was doing. How am I doing?Â
He pondered that If all the great minds in the world canât explain what love is, how does one properly define a loss.Â
How do you tell people your heart was literally ripped out of your chest without rhyme or reason, leaving a void so painful that life was no longer something you desired. How do you answer that truthfully and not leave them feeling monsterous for asking. Itâs a mindless question really, because in all honesty they want a false answer. He was fine.Â
It had been exactly four weeks since Riley died. Four agonizing weeks of loneliness and sorrow- the kind a person will never fully heal from. Liamâs face had grown paler and his eyes were sunken from lack of sleep and appetite. His tall, muscular frame was just starting to show evidence of wasting away and if one didnât know better, might say he was ten years older than he actually was. He had grown irritable, withdrawn, and found no pleasure in things he typically enjoyed. If not for Ellie, who was quite possibly the only thing keeping him somewhat together now, he seriously contemplated the merits of pursuing the ultimate Shakespearean ending.Â
As he prodded the asparagus and slid it back off his fork, he tried to imagine what Riley was doing at this exact moment. Liam believed in an afterlife; he wasnât sure exactly what it entailed, but imagined a place where his wife was surrounded by beauty and color his mortal eyes couldnât begin to imagine. Was she dancing carelessly through a field of her favorite lilies while her laughter carried a melody so sweet and magnificent, the angels were envious? He knew she didnât have any close family, but perhaps his mother was keeping her company while they exchange funny stories of Liamâs mishaps and clownery. Â Does she even remember me?Â
No matter how glorious or wonderful her time might be there, one fact remained: there was a chasm that separates him from the greatest love heâs ever known. Until he would be able to break through that barrier himself, he would never feel whole again. Riley was his life and without her, he surmised, he no longer existed.
As he stared at the disarray of intermingled food on his plate, Ellieâs soft cry ripped him from his thoughts. Before he could lift the cloth napkin from his lap to attend to his daughter, Drake was already up from his chair across from Liam, unhooking the baby from her glider and bouncing her on his chest. This wasnât anything surprising; if it hadnât been Drake, it would have been Hana or Maxwell. Liam wasnât sure if they realized he had caught on to their patterns of, âjust dropping byâ, visits, while attending to his every need and want. Even if he wanted to be left alone, which in large part he did, those three friends most likely used the opportunity to heal themselves of the heavy hearts they were feeling too.
Drake, the ever proud godfather, handed the little girl to her daddy and grabbed an already prepared bottle from the refrigerator to heat up.Â
âSo, what do you think Nevilleâs plans are for this emergency council meeting tomorrow?â Drake asked, while he placed the bottle into the warmer and leaned back into the counter waiting for it to finish.
Liam let out a heavy sigh. âYou know Lord Neville as well as I do-â He bent over to pick up the rattle Ellie dropped on the floor and placed it back inside her tiny little hand. âIâm sure whatever it is he wants will likely end with me trying to pamper his spoiled ass and you wanting to kick it.â
Drake knit his brows with a chuckle. âHeh. I do find kicking that nutsackâs ass to be one of my favorite pastimes. Right after drinking my weight in whiskey, moping around the palace on your dime and pounding the hell out of myself to a picture of Madeleine.â
Liamâs face twisted as he stopped rocking Ellie for a moment to let Drakeâs words sink in. Did he really just say that about himself? The more time he had to think about them, the funnier it became to him.Â
âDrake-â He chortled with amusement. âWhere the hell did that come from?â
Drake smirked and started to respond when the warmer beeped, letting him know it was ready. He grabbed the bottle, checking the temperature on his wrist and handed it over to Liam. âThatâs usually the kind of âDrake Walkerâ jokes,â he emphasized with air quotes, âLiv tells that makes the group laugh ⌠thought you could use one. Looks like it worked too, since thatâs the first time youâve laughed or even smiled since âŚâÂ
With that unfinished quip, an awkward silence began. Drake rubbed the back of his neck, feeling terrible for bringing up Rileyâs death. Even if he didnât actually utter those words, the smile that instantly faded from Liamâs face before he turned away from him, told Drake all he needed to know.Â
Later that evening, after Drake left, Liam gave Ellie her bath and put her down for the night. With the baby monitor in hand, he stepped out onto the living room balcony-just as he had done every night for the past four weeks- to talk with his beloved. With a full, spring moon overhead, he could see her place of rest clearly and mused how the mound of dirt before her newly placed headstone was beginning to flatten out. Liam leaned against the railing, as he did every night and told her how much he loved her and missed her. He spoke about his day with Ellie and how it must have been Drakeâs turn to spend time with them.Â
Liam placed both elbows on the cool, concrete railing, clasped his hands together and rested his forehead on them. âMy Love, I want to be where you are.â He lifted his head from his hands and glanced upwards toward the stars. âIâve thought about it a million times since you left. All it would take is one pill and then you and I can reunite ⌠be together forever.âÂ
Liam dropped his hands over the railing and rubbed the tips of his fingers along the roughened grooves of concrete. The scent of lavender from Ellieâs shampoo still clung to his hands and traveled with the breeze. He let out a heavy breath. âIâm stuck between two great loves though. Youâre there and Eliie and I are here and I canât leave her ⌠Iâm just âŚÂ really missing my other girl tonight.â
In the silence, Liam turned when he heard the calling out of his name from the living room. He rubbed the dust off his hands and elbows and made his way back inside to find Ellieâs nanny coming in for the night. It was the first time she would be spending the night there. Liam would be returning to his full time duties in the morning and an early morning, emergency council meeting meant her services were needed more frequently now.Â
Rolling a suitcase through the foyer towards the stairs, she stops immediately to curtsy when she sees Liam.
âYour Majesty.â
He motioned with the monitor in his hand to the stairs. âEllieâs been asleep for 20 minutes. I would imagine she will be out for another few hours and the staff prepared your accommodations earlier. Is there anything you need before I retire for the nightâ
She rolled her suitcase back and forth as she thought for a moment. âI donât think so. I have everything I need right here,â she patted her suitcase with a playful smile.
Liam thanked the young, brunette and carried the luggage to her room at the top of the stairs. Once the door was shut, he drifted slowly to his bedroom. He had been in there several times, however, this was the first night he would sleep in the bed heâd shared with his wife. Obviously, his hand was forced in that decision; he couldnât remain in Ellieâs room with the nanny coming and going throughout the night. It was time to face his fears.
After he showered, Liam perused his closet for the suit he would wear in the morning. He wanted something loose, but also knew that Neville had something up his sleeves and wanted to ensure his look didnât allow the slimy bastard to think he could best him. While contemplating his options between the blue tie and black tie with the suit jacket he chose, a peculiar thought crosses his mind.Â
Liam exits the closet after tossing the black tie over the hanging suit and leaves the bedroom. He walks back down the hall and stops in front of Amandaâs door and raises his hand to knock.
âAmanda! Open the door!â
He could hear faint scurrying inside and the closing of a dresser drawer.
âI said open the door, now!â
Amanda opened the door a few seconds later with a shocked, but puzzled expression. âIs there something wrong, Your Majesty.â
Liam gives her a questioning look. âHow did you get in my quarters tonight?â
Flustered, she furrowed her brows. âWhat?â
He placed his hand on the barely opened door and pushed it in a little further. âHow in the hell did you get in my quarters tonight.â He asks again while peeking over her shoulder suspiciously.
Amanda let go of the door and under the watchful of the King, walked to the desk drawer of the guest room, opened it and pulled out a key ring. She held it up in front of her and jiggled it nervously. âQueen Riley gave me the key. After she had the baby, it was easier for me to have one when she needed me to drop by and she was nursing. I ⌠I didnât think it would be an issue to use it again since Iâm caring for Eleanor now.â
Liam dropped his head and rubbed his thumbs over his tired and puffy eyes. Without knowing who killed his wife, everyone and everything suddenly became suspicious to him. He was edgy with everyone and completely annoyed by the lack of of lead yet.
âMy apologies for scaring you ⌠Iâm just ⌠a little questioning of everyone. I donât know who I can trust anymore.âÂ
Amanda placed the key ring back in the drawer and walked back before Liam at the door. She placed her hand on his arm and slightly squeezed with an understanding nod.Â
âYou have nothing to apologize for, sir. I want whoever took my dear friend away found also and if you need to question me to feel some reassurance, I completely understand.â
After he apologized once more for interrupting her nightly routine, he bid her goodnight and left her be. She turned the lock on her door and crossed the room into her own personal bathroom. As she stood before the large mirror that clung to the bathroom wall, she grabbed her toothbrush and looked at her reflection with a sinister smirk formed on her lips. She winked at herself in the mirror and gave herself a gleeful smile. âThis is too easy and itâs only just begun. You havenât seen anything yet ⌠My Kingâ
________
Liam glared at the bed he had not slept in since Riley passed away. His heart was pounding faster than he could ever recall; he had reached an anxiety level that was insurmountable. After several minutes of trying to control his breathing and his shaky hands, he finally pulled the duvet down and eased himself slowly onto the bed. Liam lowered himself down and tossed the blanket over himself and adjusted his head on the pillow.
After staring at the ceiling for several minutes, he knows he canât do this. The bed felt so hollow and empty and was a constant reminder of her touch, her scent, her missing place on the other side of him.Â
Liam rose from the bed and walked to her vanity in the corner of the room and grabbed a bottle of her perfume. Standing over her pillow, he sprays a generous helping on it and places the bottle back on her night stand. Trying once more, he crawls back into the bed, grabs her pillow, and snuggles his body and face into it. It wasnât the same-it would never be the same-but it was all he had. âGoodnight, My Love.â
Just as his body and mind began to feel some comfort, he heard the small cries of Ellie followed by an unmistakable voice come through the baby monitor, that shot his eyes open quickly.â
âBaby mine donât you cry. Baby mine dry your eyes âŚâ
Liam threw the blankets off his body and twisted around to snatch the monitor from the table beside his bed. He placed the device to his ear, not sure if what he heard was what he thought he did. He held his breath as the all too familiar voice carried through it and prayed it wasnât a dream.
âIt canât ⌠can it?â
Still carrying the monitor to his ear, he runs out of his room and across the hall to Ellieâs nursery. He stands before the door and braces himself for the possibilities that lie beyond it.
He carefully twists the door handle, still hearing the sniffles of his infant daughter and a song he hadnât heard sung in a month.
His blue eyes widen with anticipation and he can feel the blood rush away from his eager mind as the door swung open.
He lets out a small gasp as the babyâs room becomes visible and immediately drops to his knees.
"Riley?â

touya-is-dabi said to alonelytinywriter:

I got chu doll! I hope you like it as much as I liked writing it. Lots of love <3 <3
Warnings: There be soft smut here, Dabi being a soft guy, even if he is kinda a twat for a itty bitty, bitty bit . . . and then Dabi being a not so soft guy if you get the idea! Cursing, Jealousy, soft! Dabi . . . Enjoy!
Dabi / Zeni Devi ~ Lovely baby of @touya-is-dabiâ
Playlist - Love Songs, Drug Songs - X Ambassadors
Name: Zeni Devi ~ Birthday: December 6 ~ Age: 21 ~ Hair Color: White ~ Eye Color: Sea-foam Green ~ Gender: Female ~ Height: 5â4ââ ~ Quirk: Permafrost ~ Occupation: LOV Member
Appearance:
Zeni is five foot four, but everyone comments on the way she seems taller in the same way that ballerinas do, with a long neck and willowy limbs, although not many ballerinaâs would have hundreds of freckles scattered across their body, nor piercings in places such as their tongue or belly button. She is slender with long legs and long bright white hair and deep azure roots - which grows blue naturally only a few inches away from her scalp - and large sea foam green eyes surrounded by thick lashes that curl and seem to brush against her cheeks when she blinks. If one were asked to describe her, they would say that she was bright and radiant, like her face was truly alive, despite the sour attitude she might show those around her. ~ She typically dresses in jeans and sweaters or coats, and always wears boots, in which she keeps small weapons hidden for when her quirk becomes to much to handle in battle. Due to the nature of her Quirk, Zeni commonly looks as if she is ready to take a trip into the snow - even during the middle of the summer - and her quirk causes the skin around her fingers, elbows, knees and ankles to constantly feel chapped. The band-aids she uses to cover the cracks and sores have steadily grown more and more ridiculous over the years and she currently goes out of her way to find the most brightly colored Hello Kitty band-aids whenever she can . . . if only to annoy Dabi, not that he needs to know that.
Quirk: Permafrost ~ Zeniâs Quirk allows her to replace her bodily fluids (spit, tears, sweat, etc.) with liquid nitrogen, allowing her to use it as both defence and weapon during attacks and missions with the LOV. The longer Zeni actively uses the power, the stronger the liquid nitrogen becomes. If Zeni over uses this Quirk, a layer of frostbite begins to seep across her skin and lungs, freezing any natural moister in its way, and due to the nature of the Quirk, her body is constantly freezing, and crying can become a horror for her as the liquid nitrogen will turn to dry ice and sheâll begin crying blood because dry ice blocks her tear glands. The only way Zeni is able to combat against the drawbacks of this Quirk is by warming up, though she finds it very hard to do so.
Power - 5/5 ~ Speed - 3/5 ~ Technique - 4/5 ~ Intelligence - 6/6 (S) ~ Cooperativeness - 1/5
Oh Hush You
~ âThis isnât right! You shouldnât be winning! It isnât fair! Isnât fair! Isnât fair!â Rolling her eyes, Zeni continued to skid her fingertips across the buttons to the controller of her Switch, even while Shigaraki tried to elbow her into messing up. âHow are you winning?â
~ âI already told you that you should just do what Iâm doing. Itâs not like anyone actually knows how to use her yet. Everyone else is gonna be button mashing too.â Zeni laughed as she watched Shigarikiâs character fly from the screen once again and snickered, racing after the dropped power-up.
~ âI am not mashing the buttons.â
~ The power up pushed Shiggyâs character from the platform once again and Zeni watched as the screen flashed GAME OVER again. âWell, then, youâre going to keep on loosing.â
~ â . . . Shut . . . Up.â
~ And so it continued, and even though it was well past three in the morning, neither Zeni nor Shiggy were willing to set their game consoles down, and one game turned into five then thirty, and then they lost count and it became a challenge to see who would come out on top. Even though Zeni found Shigaraki annoying at the best of times, it was nice to relax and fight in a way that wouldnât end in bloodshed but in laughter instead. And Dabi was away on a mission, so it wasnât like she had anything better to do without him there. She knew it was getting late, but she wanted to wait for him to arrive, wanted to be there to greet him when he came through the doors. What she didnât want to do was fall asleep with her head on Shigarakiâs lap. Specifically not long enough that she would still be in that position when Dabi came home.
~ That was the only explanation Zeni could come with with, eyes wide open as she stared around the empty room. Shiggy was still asleep up above her, his breath steady, completely unaffected by whatever it was that had woken Zeni from her sleep. Maybe it had been Twice, Zeni mused, as she forced Shigaraki awake and directed him to his bedroom so he wouldnât bitch at anyone when they started coming into the room in the morning. Turning the television off, Zeni yawned and began to make her way to her room wondering if Dabi had made it to the base yet.
~ The question was answered for her as she walked past the hallway leading to Dabiâs door and she could hear him cursing and tossing things in his room. It seemed strange, that Dabi hadnât woke her when he arrive home, that he hadnât let her know how the mission had gone. And why was he locked in his room, clearly breaking one thing after another? He doesnât even pause the first time she knocks, or the second or third. Itâs not until she literally slams her hands against the door, rattling it in its frame, that Dabiâs rant inside the room seems to calm.
~ Red light filtered into the hallway when Dabi throws the door open, and his glowering stare is nearly enough to make Zeni shrink back. âWhatâs your problem? Why didnât you tell me you where back?â Dabi continued to stare down at her for a moment before scoffing. âWhy donât you just go on, huh?â
~ . . . âWhat did you just say to me?â Zeni has never had problems laying hands on people to get her way, and when her hands land on his chest the steam the rises nearly creates a cloud that neither can see through. âWhat is your fucking problem Dabi?â âNot a fucking thing!â Rubbing her eyes, Zeni laughed. âYeah, try again. Youâre acting like a jerk. What did the mission not go well? Did you not get to show off or something?â
~ âWhy donât you just go to sleep, Ze.â âBecause Iâm not tired.â Breathing heavily, the two stare at each other for a long moment. His room wasnât trashed, Zeni realized once she looked away. Sure, there was a broken lamp against the far wall, and she was pretty sure she could smell smoke, which meant something had been on fire at some point. âFine, youâre not tired? Then why donât you go talk to Shigaraki, since youâre such good friends?â He doesnât even finish his sentence before he throws himself down onto his bed, mumbling into the pillows about how he was tired, so if she didnât mind, he was going to be going to bed.
~ Zeni couldnât believe it. How dare he? What an ass! Huffing, she slammed her way from the room. Who did he think he was, talking to her like that? He never talked like that before so why would he . . .
~ The door was still open and she was able to slip in soundlessly, the thick socks on her feet covering any sound of her footsteps when she moved to stand next to his bed, but Dabi does startle when she throws herself onto the bed. âWhat the fuck do you think youâre doing?â Her lips were on his neck when she answered, but the words were soft and Dabi nearly didnât hear her as she threw the question back at him instead of properly answering. He wasnât happy about it, and he tried to show her by shoving her from the bed, away from him, but she straddles his waist and frowns down at him while her hair creates an snowy curtain around them.
~ âI figured it out, you know. What woke me up earlier. It was you, wasnât it? You didnât get jealous because I was asleep with Shiggy, did you?â His Quirk flaring to life at his fingertips was answer enough and Zeni laughed, quickly putting out the flames with her own Quirk. âYouâre joking right? Youâre jealous of crusty, musty Shiggy?â He denies it of course but Zeni canât help herself - âYou are so! Youâre so jealous I can see your eyes turning green!â
~ Growling, Dabi flips them over and straddles her the same way she was him just a instant before, his voice gravel as he tells her over and over that she is his, and no one else could have her. To Zeni, it shouldnât have even been a question, but to Dabi it seemed a mantra he needed to repeat again and again, even as they rolled and fought to be on top, lips and teeth marking necks and exposed collar bones, flames and frost flashing to counter one or the other. âYou were jealous.â Zeni scoffed lightly, her breathing coming in short panting gasps as Dabiâs teeth continued to scrap across her skin. âYou were mad that I was asleep with Shiggy -â
~ âYou belong to me.â Dabi snarled. âMaybe if you werenât getting so chummy with Shigaraki, this wouldnât be a problem. I wouldnât have gotten so fucking -â Zeni cuts him off with her lips, her fingers threaded through his hair as steam rises from their mouths, the heat so intense, Zeni wondered if kissing the sun would feel similar. Her shirt was gone between one breath and the next, and so was Dabiâs. Their hands were not soft as they felt each other, their teeth sharp against the others skin. âYou know I only want you.â
~ Steam fogged the windows and mirror above the dresser, and their clothes were scattered around the room when Dabi finally entered Zeni in one sharp thrust, groaning her name like a payer. Heâs not gentle by any means, and deep down Zeni knew that he wouldnât be when she walked back into the room and instigated this. Moaning into his mouth, she felt her hips begin to rock against his, her fingers threading through his hair. The sounds of flesh slapping against flesh filled the air, bleeding into the steam throughout the room with the sweet scent of burnt sugar and caramel. âYouâre mine, you know that. Mine and only mine, Ze.â
~ âI know. I know. I know.â Zeni threw her head back, nails scrambling for purchase against Dabiâs back, as she felt the coil within her tighten. Dabiâs growls softened to a hum when he moves to palm a handful of her ass, his hips jerking when she pulses around him in response. âDabi, Dabi - please, Dabi -â Dabi groans, whispering quite words of nonsense into her ear as he finds his thrusts growing shorter, filled with purpose as he chased their high together. Zeni looked as if she were a goddess in the darkness of his room, and her tits, heavy and perfectly sized for her body, bounced with each rantic thrust.âDabi, Dabi, Dabi -â
~ âMine.â Dabi growled as he felt her fluttering around him, her back arching from the bed as he was thrown over the edge as well, his nails carving into the slope of her spine as he forced her closer. âYouâre mine.â

âYouâre kinda small. Itâs cute.â + Height Difference Kisses Where One Person Has To Bend Down And The Other Is On Their Tippy Toes + Suck + Being dared to kiss + against a wall/door -
NOTES:
Hey, look... Years ago, I actually STARTED writing in the Twilight fandom. I feel like things have come full circle now, kinda? Idk.. Anyway, just wanted everyone to know that this takes place AFTER the series. Jacob is grown up here. So is the OC omega/imprint. If people bother me enough I miiight be tempted to sit down and come up with an actual story for these two, idek... Enjoy the filth. I blame the recent announcement of the Midnight Sun movie / book... Anyway, yeah.
Oh yeah and just so you know... I kinda took imprinting and alpha x omega bonds and mashed them together. So the oc here is not only Jacobâs imprint but she is also his omega.Â
PAIRING:
Jacob Black [ alpha ] x ofc, Lily [ omega ]Â
WARNINGS:
Uhh... the usual stuff that goes with a/o.. Meeting a guy at a bar and hooking up. Protected sex, for once -yeah, thatâs right, you heard it here guys and dolls, Ash FINALLY remembered that condoms exist.. Biting.
Writer does NOT agree or disagree with hooking up casually. Writer says to make up your own mind about these things. Alcohol warning, btw.
TAGGING:
@micoleggâ - just because | @kyleoreillyskneeâ - theyâre the only person on my Twilight tag list. If you want to be on any of my taglists, once again, go [here] otherwise, you will not be getting tagged.
( nobody @ me. I had to use this gif. I had to. )
âOkay, if youâre really over the jerk, I dare you to kiss the next guy who walks through the door.âÂ
Lily scoffed at her best friendâs dare and rolled her eyes, picking at her nails. âNo, I believe Iâll pass. Knowing my craptastic luck, itâll be one of those creepy Cullens or Nelsonâs ass.âÂ
Cassandraâs gaze was fixed intently on the doors that lead into the crowded sports bar and she let out a low whistle. âI mean, if you wanna pass on that, by all means.â she gestured to where Jacob Black stood, tugging off a weathered brown leather jacket to toss at an empty booth. She nudged Lily again so that sheâd look up and see the man for herself.
Lily swore sharply and finally tore her gaze off of her phone. âWhat the hell--â her sentence died on her lips and she swallowed down a baseball sized lump in her throat, blinking. Raising a hand to rub her eyes when blinking didnât just make him disappear.
âJacob?â her voice came almost whisper quiet, eyes fixed on him intently. She shook her head, it had to be some kind of hallucination. Jacob had been in Canada since a few weeks before Bellaâs wedding. And every letter he sent home to Billy suggested that Canada is where he intended to stay. Or thatâs the last thing her father told her when she bothered to ask last month.
So why come back now, she found herself wondering. She didnât even realize that sheâd started to move towards him until she bumped into Jessicaâs back, muttering a distracted and quick apology, shoving past her until she caught up to Jacob Black.
Jacob was distracted; entranced by the warm and heavy sweetness of the vanilla scent heâd followed into the bar. Brown eyes darted around and his fists clenched at his sides as he tried to keep himself pulled together. For a split second, he thought he caught sight of Lily, an old neighbor, but when he tried to focus, see if it was really her, she was gone.Â
âIâm here, might as well grab a drink.â Jacob mused to himself as he glanced around again, turning and preparing to walk back to the booth heâd left his jacket in. The scent of vanilla permeated the air around him heavily and he felt his skin tightening, his blood almost boiling. His vision started to tunnel and when he turned around fully, he found himself body to body with Lily.
âJacob, hi.â Lily bit her lip and stared up at him, reaching up to toy with the end of soft long jet black locks. He let his hair grow back, Lily thought to herself distractedly, thank God. She quickly snatched back her hand when she realized what sheâd done.
Her feet felt rooted to the floor. Why wasnât she moving?
She wasnât the same stammering little mess sheâd been back then, damn it. Suddenly, Cassandraâs dare came rushing back and Lily took a deep breath, her eyes locking intently on kissable lips.Â
âFuck it. Yolo.â Lily muttered quietly, molding herself against Jacob, raising to tippy toe, tugging his mouth closer to her own as he bent down to make up for the difference in height. Rough hands dug into her lower back, lifting her off the floor slightly as his mouth crashed against her mouth. Her fingers tangled in his hair, tugging at it so that the kiss deepened and his hand moved up her back, fingers catching in a long jet black braid, raking through it until it tumbled loose down her back. His tongue trailed over the outline of her lips and when she rubbed against him just a little, he groaned, the taste of rum filling his mouth as he deepened the kiss to a point where he knew she had to be getting dizzy and he could feel their breathing sync up, almost as if they were breathing for each other.
The kiss broke, the pair springing apart as Lily took a few deep breaths and raised her hand, smoothing it over her hair, pushing shaggy bangs out of her eyes. Jacobâs mouth opened and closed and his hand raised, dragging through his hair. All he could do was stare at her as everything heâd seen and the scent of her bombarded his brain and dominated every single part of his thoughts. He chuckled, rubbing his chin. âHi, Lily. So, uh⌠is this how you greet everyone?â
âNo, no.â the word tumbled out, making him laugh, making him flash her that bright and cocky grin of his. When she blurted out what transpired before he walked in, she wanted to kick herself, adding quickly to the end of her explanation, âBut I wasnât gonna do it til Cassandra got me to look up and I saw you walk in. Shit. Fuck. You know what? Iâm gonna take this as my cue and go.â
Lily turned abruptly, already halfway back across the bar by the time Jacob processed what sheâd basically just admitted. He was on his feet again, shoving through the crowd, deep brown eyes darting around all over as his nose honed in on the scent of her. He found her easily, sitting in the back in a booth with a group of two or three other girls he remembered from La Push High.
He cleared his throat and the girls all surrounding his imprint shared a look and stood abruptly after doing so, making a hasty retreat.
Lily lightly beat her head against the tabletop. âI swear to God, I just want to disappear right now, Cass. He has to think Iâm still a huge dork.â
âActually, no.â Jacob spoke up as he slid into the booth bench beside her, an arm going around the back of it.Â
Lily raised her head reluctantly, her cheeks almost an angry red as she stared at him a few seconds. That intense heat was lingering in the air all over again and the spicy scent of him pierced her nostrils as she felt her skin tightening all over again.
The urge to straddle his lap took over before she could stop it and she didnât even realize that every single dirty little thing on her mind was being broadcast directly to his until he leaned in close and chuckled against the shell of her ear, âAre you okay? You look like youâre burning up right now.â
âI,uhh.â
It clicked into place what was happening and she crossed her legs, clenching them tight beneath the table.  Oh naturally, heâs my Alpha and I make an entire ass of myselfâŚÂ
Jacobâs gaze shifted to her hands and the way they were almost white knuckle, her palms flat against the wooden tabletop. It happened again, just like earlier when sheâd kissed him. Every single noisy thought flooded his brain and the animal side kicked into overdrive.
Yeah, he knew how imprinting worked but this felt⌠Different. A thousand times more intense. It was imprinting and something different⌠Something so much more than that. This primal urge to get her alone and lay claim.
When it hit him, his jaw dropped and for a few seconds, he sat there in a daze, staring straight ahead.Â
Lily toyed with the wrapping to the straw in her mixed drink after noisily slurping down the last of it and taking a few labored breaths. The way he looked at her just now was⌠Deeper than any look heâd given her before.
To be fair, she found herself thinking with mild annoyance, before it was all about Bella.Â
âDo you dance, Lily?â Jacob leaned in and muttered the question against the shell of her ear as someone put the Halsey version of I Walk The Line on to play in the music box at the front of the bar. He needed her closer. He needed to know she was okay. He needed to feel her body molded against his again because only then could he feel centered.
âNobody dances in here, Jake.â
âThereâs a first time for everything, Lil. Câmon. Unless youâre too tipsy?â he teased her gently, his eyes fixing on the pyramid of shot glasses in front of where she sat and the two empty glasses that contained mixed drinks.
This got his inebriated imprint slash omega on her feet. Between the alcohol in her system and the effects of what he suspected to be her heat setting in, she swayed a good bit. Jacob stood too and pulled her completely against him, his hands drifting down and gripping her ass to hold her in place. Lily looked up, staring deep into dark brown eyes. âIâm not too tipsy for anything, Jacob. Iâll⌠Iâll have you know, I-Iâm perfectly sober right now.â she nuzzled her face against his shirt as soon as she dropped her gaze again and Jacob barely contained the low growl that arose from deep in his chest. His hands splayed across both sides of her ass, fingertips digging in just a little as his nose buried in the crown of her hair and he breathed in the scent of his mate as deep as he possibly could. After a few seconds, he gave a quiet laugh at her words.
âRight.â Jacob continued to snicker quietly to himself, a fond smile tugging his mouth upward as he fixed his gaze on her intently.
Lilyâs head raised and she poked out her tongue at him, prompting him to snicker about it.Â
âWhatâs so funny, Jake?âÂ
⌠God, is she ever not going to get me hard or distract the living hell out of me?. This is going to take a lot of getting used to, but itâs fine. Itâs perfect, actually.. the thought came and went and rather than be dumb and let it slip out, he instead went with, âYouâre kinda small. Itâs cute, actually.â
âOh hahahaha. Says the guy who reached man size in what? Seventh grade?â Lily teased gently, trying hard not to think about just how good it felt to be pressed against him like this, but just how many layers of clothing were still between them and how badly she wanted those gone.
âNinth, actually. And I was not man sized.â Jacob chuckled, a soft gaze down at her. There it was at last, that truly lightweight and give no fucks feeling that came with the imprint bond.
âY-you are.â Lily muttered, stumbling over the words lightly. With each little step they took, she found herself rubbed right against him and the slick coursed down her inner thighs, coating them. âY-you were more of a man t-than any of t-those other s-shitheads at our school.â
⌠I seriously just said that⌠Ugh, can someone just strike me mute? Before I totally fuck up?... the thought came floating into her mind and Lily muttered a quick apology, giving him a little dirty look when he managed to mis step and stepped on her toes.Â
âFuck, Iâm sorry.â Jacob apologized, laughing. He dipped her down and as she came back up, their faces bumped against each other. Just the feel of her lips against his own had him struggling to keep the animal within at bay.
Lilyâs tongue danced over the outline of his lips and his grip on her body tightened as he hauled her up fully, pressing into her so much that she had to lean back, her back meeting the edge of the booth with a soft smack. âItâs...itâs okay.â Lily managed to gasp out between sloppy and rough kisses that seemed to dominate her mouth and set her pulse racing. A throat clearing nearby had the two springing apart momentarily and it served to put the brakes on for the two momentarily.Â
âYou wanna get outta here, Lily?â Jacob pressed into her heavily, his hands on her hips, his mouth next to her ear.Â
⌠isnât this a little fast?...
⌠better too fast than never, besides⌠havenât I waited long enough?... his mind was at war with itself and the stronger side, the animal side, that was winning.
Lily found herself staring deep into dark brown eyes and getting lost, just like she used to when they were kids. After a few seconds, it occurred to her that heâd said something and she managed to respond, âOh god, yeah. Take me home, Jake.â as she slipped her tongue past his lips all over again, her hands drifting down, tugging almost impatiently at the waistband of his jeans.
Jacob bent at the waist, scooping her up, making quick strides towards the doors of the little sports bar. Once they were outside in the chilled night air, he sat her down on the back of his motorcycle, getting on in front.Â
âHold on tight.â
Lilyâs arms slipped around his waist and she pressed herself into him as the motorcycleâs powerful engine roared to life, the motorcycle taking off at a decent speed towards the reservation.
âYour place or mine?â Lily muttered quietly next to his ear as she grazed her lips against. Jacobâs breath caught for a second and he chuckled quietly, shrugging. Lily continued, âBecause Iâm the only one staying at my place⌠No interruptions.â her lips dancing right over the rapid pulse in his neck. Jacob bucked a little, feeling himself getting harder and harder.Â
The reservation was coming into view and he drove down the dirt road they both lived on, parking his motorcycle beneath the carport next to the little red cabin she lived in.Â
Getting off the motorcycle, he scooped her up in his arms again, quick strides up the porch steps, Lily digging around for her house key after climbing out of his arms, reaching out to unlock the door as Jacob lightly kicked it open with his foot, stepping inside the darkened house as he shut the door behind them and locked it.Â
Her back pressed against the wooden door with a soft smack and Jacobâs hands were all over her. Her mouth latched onto his neck and chest, anywhere she could reach and when she rose to tiptoe all over again, Jacob chuckled and slid her up his body to sit her down on top of her dining table, his mouth latching onto her mouth and then dancing down her neck.Â
As soon as he found the spot where her scent glands were, he could feel the pierce of his fangs at his gums. Lily was rubbing herself against him, her legs wrapped around him, her hands moving down between them and then her fingertips catching in the hem of his tee shirt, starting to pull it upward. The warmth of his breath against her neck felt so fucking good. She gasped and let her head fall to the opposite side, giving his mouth better access.
Jacob pulled away a second or two, eyeing her as she continued to rub against him, shaky fingers catching on the button to his jeans and pulling it free, then lingering down, lowering his zipper slowly. In a daze, he kicked his jeans and underwear free when they pooled at his ankles, a low and primal growl filling the air as his eyes settled on his mate all over again, his tongue trailing slowly over his lips as he gazed down at her.Â
âArenât you going to do it?â Lilyâs voice was a breathy drawl as her fingertips trailed up and down his bare chest and she fixed her eyes on him almost expectantly. She rubbed herself against him with more urgency, her whimpers and moans echoing off the walls of the dining room. Jacob licked his lips and smirking, he lowered his mouth back down to her neck, his teeth scraping against scent glands again.
âYouâre sure, right?â his voice came out deeper, sending a jolt racing through her and another wave of slick coating the insides of her thighs. Lily gazed up at him, biting her lip. âI asked for it, didnât I, Jake?â
âYeah, but..â he trailed off, unable to finish his words because she took his face in her hands, scooting herself closer to the edge of the table, rubbing against him all over again, more urgently. Jacobâs hand went down to the jagged hem of her crop top, tugging it up and over her head, letting it settle on the table top behind her. He gave a low growl as his eyes roamed over her, his mouth almost watering at the way her scent intensified. Wiping the back of his hand over his mouth, he leaned in again, reaching around, the quiet tear of satin as her bra was torn away breaking the semi-silence between the two as he tugged it free from her body next. And then, he was leaning in, ghosting his mouth down the side of her neck, his tongue trailing over soft skin boldly, his lips latching onto the patch of skin her scent glands lingered beneath.Â
This time when he felt his fangs starting to prick through and push to the surface, he didnât bother fighting it. Instead, he sank his teeth into the sac just below the surface of the patch of skin. Her nails dug into his shoulders and she rocked herself against him, legs clenching his hips tight as she gasped. âOh, oh wow..â the rush of the bond took over, leaving her to lean into him heavily, clinging to his body. Jacob leaned right back against her heavily, chuckling as he muttered the same against her skin.
The wooden tabletop was cool against her back as she wound up flat against it, Jacob pinning both her hands at either side of her head, his mouth crashing against hers again, muttering against her lips, âJust a second⌠stay right there.â and raising up, letting go of her hands, bending to pick his jeans off the floor, rifling through the pockets. He tore open the condom wrapper with his teeth, sliding the condom down over his cock before turning back around to face her, stepping back between her legs as he leaned down, his hips pressing into her lower body, his mouth roaming over her neck, littering soft skin with bites and suck marks as he groaned and rutted himself into her, the tip of his cock teasing between her folds and making her whimper out loud, rubbing herself right back against him. As his cock sank deep into her heat, she got louder, Jacob chuckling against her mouth as he pressed into her, going still to let her get used to his size as the knot began to form.
âI think Iâm okay.â Lily managed to gasp, rocking her hips against him urgently. Jacob sank his cock in a little deeper, a quiet growl escaping into the kiss as he pulled his mouth away, staring down at her. âYouâre sure?â
Lily gritted her teeth as she felt him burying his cock in even deeper. She felt like she was being split in two, stretched and overfilled. Her nails dug into his shoulder and she gasped as she started to really get used to the way he felt buried inside her, trying to rock her hips against him all over again. âYeah, yeah. Fuck.â she moaned out, âso big.âÂ
âIâm not hurting you, right?â
âNo, fuck no. Feels so..â Lily met the deep and steady drives he made into her tight and dripping cunt with her own thrusts eagerly, âSo good. Fuck.â
Jacob slowed to an almost stop, she was so tight around him, it felt too damn good. His fingers dug into her hips and he growled quietly as he slammed her up and down his massive cock, panting next to her ear in quiet and filthy growls, âYouâre so tight, fuck. Feels so good to bury my cock in you.âÂ
Her fingers dug into his shoulders and she moaned louder and louder, the table creaking quietly beneath them and making them both pause and eye the table, then each other. âMaybe we should move this to the couch.â Lily muttered, giving a soft laugh as she caught her breath for a few seconds. Jacob scooped her off the tabletop and went to step out of the dining room and into the living room. Lilyâs back met the wall as Jacobâs mouth buried in hers all over again and he started to fuck into her slowly, making her moan and whimper and bite down on his neck as she begged for more. âOn second thought, this⌠Oh fuck it feels so good, baby. So good. Donât stop.âÂ
Jacob slipped her legs over his forearms and started to fuck into her harder and faster, feeling her clench around his cock as he slammed into her throbbing G spot again and again. Her nails danced down his back and from the way her mouth kept latching onto his neck, he had no doubt in his mind that tomorrow, he would not be hiding the marks left behind. Then again, neither would she, because heâd definitely left marks of his own. He felt her tense up and chuckling into her mouth he asked quietly, âAre you getting closer, baby girl?â
âSo close. So close.â Lily gasped into his lips as he continued to pump in and out of her, the sound of their sloppy kisses and quiet moans and growls breaking any silence in the room. âCâmon, Lily. Let go.â Jacob coaxed as he felt himself getting closer too. âWanna feel you, princess.âÂ
â -oh fuck. Oh yeah, thatâs it.â Lily moaned as he slammed against her g spot all over again, and she felt her orgasm shatter through. Her walls clenched his cock and Jacobâs thrusts became erratic, skin smacking loudly against skin as he fucked them through their orgasm, holding her against him and kissing her all over the face as they both tried to catch their breath. He nipped at her ear and muttered quietly, âAre you okay?â
âIf youâre going to carry me around a little while, yeah.â Lily teased gently, catching the corner of his mouth with her own as their stomachs both growled noisily. âBut I am kinda hungryâŚâ
âMe too.â Jacob chuckled against her mouth, his forehead pressed against hers as he kissed her again, tender and deep.
