Ooooh it's very fun to think/write about Loretta's early years as they were honestly pretty bleak 💀 but it greatly defines who she is in the present and why she is the way she is. I had her backstory figured out before going into the game so I used that to inform most of my decision-making.

🌸 Does your Rook have any siblings or close friends they see as such? Where are they during the events of Veilguard?

There's a lot Loretta doesn't remember before her time at the Necropolis. (Unlike default Ingellvar, Loretta showed up in the Necropolis at the age of 12* rather than as a baby. Before that, she grew up in a cult that worshipped the Blight.) She knows she had no siblings as that was one of her greatest desires, particularly as a child who didn't grow up around other children. Due to the neglect and abuse she suffered within the cult, she was very reluctant to let other people near her in her first few years at the Necropolis. Vorgoth, who very clearly was not a flesh-and-blood person, was the exception to this, and naturally ended up as Loretta's primary caretaker. (At least as much as an independent and Very Odd 12 year old needs one.) Because of this, Vorgoth was her only close friend, at least until she met the Veilguard. Loretta also made friends with many of the wisps and other spirits in the Necropolis. Though she hasn't noticed, there's one in particular that has watched over her for a long time. *The Watchers guessed her age to be 10 because of her small size (due to malnutrition). Loretta figures out she's actually two years older much later.

🌺 Is there an object from Rook’s childhood they look back on fondly? (ie a favorite stuffed animal, book, or food)

Loretta didn't bring anything into the Necropolis from her old life, but one of the things that's really dear to her is a copy of Ines Arancia's Botanical Compendium, which she kinda just... took from one of the Necropolis libraries and kept forever. It kickstarted her love of botany and floristry. It's also how she named herself; the name Loretta comes from the word Laurel. (She had no name when she arrived at the Necropolis, and the Watchers had taken to calling her Vita when she didn't offer one.) She was drawn to Prophet's Laurel due to its life-giving nature and its association with Andraste's pyre and ashes*. The ember-like berries captivated her and obviously reminded her of fire, which she had since learned was an effective force against darkspawn (which she greatly fears). *She later has complicated feelings about her name when she learns that her cult could supposedly trace its beginnings from Andraste's original followers. Needless to say, it fractured her already unsteady faith.

Why yes I do! These are only some messy doodles as I haven't done his reference yet~

I can't accurately make what his actual dorm would look like in game, but there'd definitely be a mix of toys, clothes, and paper scattered across his floor. He has a few plushies and likes to keep it cozy!

His clothing chances super often cause I change my clothes a lot in game- typically I draw him with a white tanktop on with a pair of slacks or jeans. Probably barefoot most of the time...

His narcolepsy sucks because sometimes the sudden surge of fear causes his cataplexy to give him a episode; he'll stumble and fall over sometimes cause it puts him in a state of sleep paralysis. Sucks in the trials!

He changes his rig often; usually he brings heal or stun!

Not very useful to his teammates unfortunately, he genuinely tries but sometimes he's too tired and ends up napping somewhere in a hiding spot.

He has some BEEF with Coyle. He will save his bricks and stun for him.

He has a little crush on Mother Gooseberry :3 though it's hard for him to try and give her a kiss kiss. (Dr. Futterman says nuh uh)

Shortest of my Outlast Trials ocs. Stands at 5'3" if he isn't slouching.

REALLY bad at chess. You won't see him at the chess table ever.

I don't know if this counts, but I'm always very interested in animal sounds. I always have been, and as a kid and I'd make my mom look up certain animals and what sounds they make all the time. Now I can just look them up myself, and lately I've been listening to sea creatures. I'm not sure why it fascinates me so much, but it's so cool how all animals sound so different. Anyways, I'll stop nerding out about animals lol 🤣

🤝: How did they meet in the first place? What was there first impression of each other?

Oh I love the story of how we met each other!

I've got a shapeshifting Quirk and I was living on the streets as a cat at the time, and Himiko found me napping and decided to take me home with her. I was very startled and tried to fight back but she just let me scratch her and carried me home anyways.

She was living with the League at the time and I was aware I was in a pretty bad situation when I met all of them: I tried to sneak out that night, but I had to change into human form to get the door and Dabi caught me. He thought I was a spy or a hero and woke everyone up to interrogate me.

My first impression of Toga was that she was very sweet and very unhinged and very good at petting cats. Her first impression of me as a human was that I was unexpected, soft, and pretty :)

🦀: How did they handle realizing they were in love? Embarrassed? Nervous? Mad?

Toga is no stranger to falling in love: she does it all the time! She was content, determined, and absolutely over the moon to have a third girl in the League.

I was... overwhelmed, I suppose. I hadn't been with people in a few years, and suddenly there was an entire group around me, all of them with their own history and quirks and desires. Toga was the safest of them, the one that I felt comfortable with, while the others took me longer to figure out and warm up to.

i’ve STARTED hwbm but i never finished it 😭 it’s forever on my to-play list but i just never have the time… which is a huge bummer because i ADORE wktd and i know hwbm will similarly change my life but it feels like it’s such a Commitment to sit down and play the game you know?

my favorite ttrpg hands-down is Wanderhome by Jay Dragon; it’s literally everything i want in a game: an evocative fantasy-adjacent setting; mechanics centering exploration and character interaction and roleplay; furries; a hopeful-but-melancholy tone; i love it SO much

other games i love are Our Queen Crumbles by Jason Brown, a weird-fantasy story game where the ending is determined and you play by depleting your character sheet; Roustabout by Micah Anderson, a pick-up-and-play rpg inspired by the band The Decemberists; ViewScream by Rafael Chandler which isn’t really a TTRPG because it’s played over Discord or Skype but it’s a very cool horror game; and Thousand Year Old Vampire by Tim Hutchings, which is a solo journaling game rather than a traditional rpg but it’s easily the best example of the genre. i also want to try Troika!, Tunnels & Trolls, MÖRK BORG, and Pathfinder as OSR alternatives to D&D but i don’t have time, money, or a play group for that 😭

If they've been around for over a century, surely there are SOME laws about their rights. How quickly do kids become a chimera once puberty starts?? Just, everything

Thank you so much for your questions! You've made me think a lot, hahaha, but answering them has been a lot of fun for me. Here we go:

Is the way they're treated worse in less developed countries?? It depends. Ironically, it seems that the countries with the highest number of chimera children are the ones where they are most mistreated, and this includes both countries considered more developed and less developed. There are those who believe that the percentage of chimera children is related to the industrial development of the countries, but this is still a theory.

They're considered a minority, right? Yes.

Are they a community? They could be. I imagine that there must be some support groups that aim to ensure the healthy development of chimera children and the fight for their rights, mainly made up of chimera children and their families (of course, those families that accept them); but I imagine that they are not very listened to or have much influence in society, unfortunately. Due to their situation, very few chimera children become adults, and many of those who do prefer to undergo surgery to look “more human” and forget about everything that had to do with chimera children in order to try to live a “normal” life.

How do they interact with the queer/poc/disabled/etc communities? Of course there are chimera children who belong to other types of minorities as well. Certain communities tend to have less prejudice towards chimera children, but unfortunately, and like everywhere, there are always people who can act with rejection towards them.

Are there flags? I've never really thought about it.

How do therians and furries play into this worldbuilding? Haha, it's a pretty interesting question, though I admit I don't know much about either concept. I guess people will always be people and can have their own interests and beliefs (I actually have a headcanon, can I say headcanon if I'm the author? that Tigri had an ex-boyfriend who was with him just because he liked his tiger features XD).

Are there sanctuaries or chimera-only spaces? There have been attempts to create spaces for chimera children made by chimera children (any other space made by other people ends up being more like a zoo where they are still treated as something other than human); but they don't have much support, and they tend to be very small communities that barely survive on donations, since there is no government support.

Is it a genetic thing?? There is no definitive proof at the time, and since chimera children become sterile, there is no way to prove it. So far, it seems to just be a spontaneous thing that is activated at puberty, regardless of aspects such as ethnicity or health.

Is someone with one or two chimera parents more likely to be a chimera? Chimera children become sterile, it's part of the transformation, so chimera children can only "arise"mutate" spontaneously. No chimera child is a chimera child from birth (except Elafi, but that's part of the mystery of the plot, hehe).

Would their chimera parent influence the type of chimera they are? There is no study that understands the factors that make certain Chimera children have traits of certain animals, as it is not something that is determined by the area in which the animals from which they take traits originally live. Others theorize that it could be related to each one's personality, like a reflection of the soul, but these are empirical theories among certain groups. Nothing is proven.

Can different chimeras of the same animal have different traits? Yes, for example there could be two chimera children that have cat traits, both with tails, ears, and claws, but one might have traits more like a calico cat and the other more like an angora cat. Hair color, hair texture, scale color, horn shape, spot or stripe patterns, all of that can vary from one chimera child to another. Other traits could be defined by the body type of the chimera child, for example a chimera child that before their transformation is more likely to have, say, big ears, if they transform and their ears mutate, they might be larger on average than another chimera child with the traits of the same animal.

How legal is chimera slavery exactly? While there are laws against slavery or child labor, there are no laws directly to protect chimera children. Many people seize on those gray areas to do their evil deeds. And the fact that there is so much smuggling doesn't help either.

Is it legal to kill a chimera? If the chimera child is registered, then killing them could be considered equivalent to murdering a person, and would be illegal. The bad thing is that many chimera children are abandoned or sold before they come of age, and chimera children who are not registered are as good as not existing, so anyone who gets their hands on them could get away with it if no one finds out.

There are associations, like the hunters' guild Warrick belongs to, that have laws regarding hunting animals. Similar rules could apply to chimera children as well, especially for those who don't really see them as human.

If they've been around for over a century, surely there are SOME laws about their rights. There may be, but surely there aren't many or they're not well made, otherwise I wouldn't be able to freely write so much whump, hahaha.

How quickly do kids become a chimera once puberty starts?? The range of transformation is from 11 to 14 years old (If puberty scares you because you're afraid of bleeding or growing hair on your face, there's also the fear of growing a tail in this world.) A teenager who turns 15 can rest assured that they will never become a chimera child (good for them, I guess?). The transformation is sudden: the child goes to sleep, maybe has a restless dream that they can't wake up from or a beautiful deep sleep, and when they wakes up and sees themself in the mirror, BAM, mutated.

I think Alastor would continue his radio career. After all, we saw in the show that he's veeeery passionate about that. With all his charisma, I'm certain that he got that popularity and status to be recognizable on the streets (as much as he could anyway). Still, to me, it seems that he would be just as skeptical of other new types of media so dedicated to his niche.

Oh, Mimzy absolutely would! That's her thing, after all. Why stop all of a sudden? It's funny to me to think that she might have charmed some naive rich guy into eventually becoming his wife, and then that naive rich guy died under ✨mysterious circumstances✨, and all his goodies went to Mimzy. She will definitely cry at certain moments and say how much she misses her sweet husband and how unfair life is. To be in that Grieving Widow of a Rich Guy role for a while, just for her entertainment mostly.

I had a thought and since i am absolutely in love with your drabbles ('cause holy shit your takes are incredible), i wanted to share it with you :>

When i was thirteen i had wrote a letter to eighteen year old me and it had both serious and cringy questions i wanted to ask to myself of that time. I started it with "If you're reading this, you're still here!" So, what if, jason had a letter like this to his eighteen year old version?? (Could also be a diary entry but you get the idea) Maybe like a homework from school or maybe he just wanted to do it bc he'd probably be very into writing. But he never got to read it on time, supposedly his eighteenth birthday.

The first time he visits the manor, he scoops through his old books and a paper slips out of it. The letter from thirteen years old jaybin himself, to jason.

And just for a second as he reads it, from the corner of his blurry vision, he thinks he can see that thirteen years old boy staring at him with a huge sadness on his face. Jaybin doesn't want answers for his questions anymore.

I imagine Jason searching for something through his old stuff (maybe, he promised Damian to give his old annotations of the book he studies at school right now), when he finds it. It slips out of his Pale Fire copy, and his first instinct is to throw the random paper away, until the curiosity takes the best of him.

He opens the old paper that got yellowish with a time, and the memory slowly returns by itself - a memory of one of the homeworks their literature teacher asked them to do, a time capsule, in a way; a letter to the future themselves. Jason remembered everyone being excited about it - they wrote it right in class, and promised to their teacher to bring these letters back, on their graduating ceremony. Just to laugh about it. It wasn't serious, when Jason wrote it, but right now, as he gripped in with his trembling fingers, it meant everything.

His eyes are already half-blurry, when he goes through the first line.

"If you are reading this, then you are the luckiest bastard ever, the future me, and it means that we actually made it to the graduation! Which is like, woah... Super-duper, I guess."

Expect, they didn't. Not really, at least.

Jason tries reading the rest of the neatly written paper, but the moment he stumbles on the question asking if Bruce kept his promise and sneaked them to the Pulitzer Prize ceremony that is instantly is followed by the question about his relationship with Dick, he loses it.

He presses the letter to his chest, and weeps.

In his mind - or maybe it is the ghost of a kid everyone was crazy about, finally hunting him down as well - he imagines his younger-self staring at him, lost. Confused, and then finally, accepting. Jason cannot offer him answers. And they both know why.

And deep inside? Deep inside, they always knew it was going to happen.
