⥠Pairings: frat boy!jaehyun x chubby!fem!reader, frat boy!johnny x chubby!fem!reader
⥠Genre: college au/angst/fluff/smut
⥠Summary: Jaehyun has made it a habit of playing with your heart. One day he loves you, the next he hates you, with nothing in between. Growing tired of his games, you find your attention drifting somewhere else. Toward his roommate and frat brother Johnny to be exact.
[Part Two Here đ€]
⥠Word Count: 2.1k-ish
⥠Warnings: fuckboy Jaehyun in his full villain era (for now), voyeurism, two couples having sex in the same room (not an orgy), technically unprotected sex by way of protection not being explicitly mentioned, a lil spanking, partying, kissing, mentions of drinking, casual/meaningless sex, sexual fantasies, everyone's a lil morally gray, heartbreak & that's all bbys.
⥠A/N: I had a bloodlust for something angsty and ya know this did a pretty good job at satisfying it. It also satisfied by craving for something sweet so I'll keep my fingers crossed it does both for y'all too. đ€
It was exciting at first. Weekends at the frat house partying with Jaehyun. No rules. No limitations. Everything a girl could want just waiting to be given to her if she asked. And the sex? The sex was incredible. Jaehyun could be a real asshole sometimes but he always knew how to make you come so hard your ears were ringing.Â
You knew from the start that itâd be delusional to think you were anything more to him than a pretty face and a dependable fuck. Jaehyunâs killer bone structure and gorgeous features make him what one might imagine a fairytale prince to be. All the girls on campus dream of being with him and he knows it. He loves it.
That man has an ego bigger than his cock which is unfortunately rather large. Thereâs so much of himself floating around in his head that thereâs just no room for anyone else. Still he has his endearing moments, ones that make a girl feel special, and thatâs what keeps you coming back when you begin to think better of tolerating his bullshit.
Thatâs why youâre here tonight, knees digging into his mattress, cheek pressed to his pillow, as he fucks you from behind. You feel it, the force of his hips snapping against your ass, his cock pulsing deep in your core. But it feels like nothing. Itâs like getting a tooth pulled after the dentist has numbed you up real good. The force of the movement is there but the feelingâs gone.
A few feet away another bed creaks as a girl youâve only met once or twice rides Jaehyunâs frat brother Johnny like one of those mechanical bulls. This isnât abnormal. During these parties sex happens any time, anywhere, and that almost always includes being in the same room together. But you canât help feeling like a pervert for stealing a few glances of the adjacent couple.
Jaehyun never formally introduced you to Johnny. Come to think of it, he's never formally introduced you to anyone. It was Johnny who introduced himself one night when youâd had a few too many drinks for your own good and ended up hunched over the toilet with Jaehyun nowhere to be found.Â
Johnny sat with you for hours making sure you were hydrated and feeding you snacks until he was sure you were okay. You canât for the life of you remember what was said. You can only recall that you felt comfortable and safe with him. It was enough to make you develop the tiniest crush thatâs only been made worse by how sweet heâs been to you since.
Jaehyun slaps your ass, interrupting your train of thought. Almost simultaneously Johnny begins to caress the other girlâs hips. Thereâs so much tenderness in the way he touches her and you envy it. You wish Jaehyun could give you even a fraction of that. Just once. Pulling the girl in for a kiss, Johnny wraps his arms around her, holding her close to his chest. With her head nestled in the side of his neck, he cradles her gently as he lifts into her at a slow, rhythmic pace.Â
You imagine thatâs you, not being hammered into but actually feeling something, and magically the friction of Jaehyunâs cock rubbing your walls feels good. In fact, far better than it ever has before. You let out a moan, a whisper, âAah, oh god.â Jaehyun takes notice of it, loving the way you clench too much not to hit that sweet spot again and again. Heâs so distracted by the delicious jiggling of your body, his vision curtained by messy dark brown hair, that he canât see that he isnât the only one captivated by you.
But you notice. Johnnyâs staring back at you now, his eyes glued to yours as he takes in all those pretty faces you make. This isnât the first time heâs watched you either. He and Jaehyun were roommates long before you came into the picture. Johnnyâs seen more than a few girls naked in Jaehyunâs bed but youâre the only one heâs cared to sneak a peek at. The crush you have on him is so mutual. How you never picked up on it he doesnât know but itâs oh so obvious now.
The longing behind Johnnyâs eyes is immense, luring you deeper into his gaze until heâs all you see. Setting your bodies on autopilot with your respective partners, you begin to quietly explore each other. Your minds indulge in every dirty thought youâve had about each other. Thoughts youâd suppressed out of fear that you were doing something wrong.Â
You find yourself getting wetter than youâve been all night, walls dripping twice as much as they hug Jaehyunâs cock. âDamn, you feel so good, babyâ Jaehyun praises, planting kisses down the middle of your back. He shifts to a position he knows will have you trembling and you let out the sexiest moan. So sexy it makes Johnnyâs cock twitch inside of the other girl, heat washing over both of your bodies.Â
âYouâre so fucking cuteâ Johnny whispers in a way that seems to be for the girl in his arms but is meant for you and only you. His face lights up like the 4th of July at every broken moan or arch of your back. You can tell how badly he wishes the pussy warming his cock right now were yours and you get the filthiest rush out of that.
Before you know it the pressure inside you has reached its peak and your legs are shaking, knees threatening to give out from under you. A faint smile creeps across Johnnyâs face and he mouths to you, âCome.â And you do, as if on command. Burying your face in the pillow, you bite down on the fluffy cotton and let it fill your cheeks. Itâs a gag of sorts, a desperately needed one incase you should cry out the wrong name on accident.
You know in your heart that even by frat boy standards youâve crossed a line. Youâve stumbled into territory thereâs no coming back from. But when it feels this good itâs difficult to want to turn back anyway.Â
âYouâre overreacting. Itâs not like youâre my girlfriend.âÂ
You know this to be true, Jaehyun isnât your boyfriend, but it hurts all the same to wake up to him texting another girl. Your heart sank when you rolled over this morning, still in his arms, to find him making plans to meet up with her tonight.
It was so blatant, he didnât even attempt to hide what he was doing, and maybe thatâs what hurts most of all. You thought he cared enough about you to at least pretend he wasnât playing the absolute fuck out of you. Itâs clear now that you thought wrong.Â
âYouâre such an asshole, you know that?â you shout, gathering your things from the floor, the sheet from his bed still draped around your naked body.Â
A fully dressed Jaehyun casually searches the dresser for his keys, the smile on his face so cocky you want to slap it off. âRight, Iâm going to the gym. You know how to see yourself out right?âÂ
Picking up one of your heels, you channel all your strength into throwing it at his head. âI never wanna see you again!âÂ
Jaehyun opens the bedroom door in time to take cover behind it, the heel of your shoe leaving a dent where it wouldâve hit him. âOoh, feistyâ he teases, cracking the door to throw you a wink, âSave some of that for next time, hmm?â
Thereâs so much you want to say but none of it will change anything. He walks away from you like itâs nothing and thatâs precisely what you feel like. Nothing. Unable to hold back anymore, you burst into tears where you stand, gathering up some of the sheet to sob quietly into. You canât recall the last time you cried like this. A chest tightening, nose dripping, lip quivering type of cry that makes you want to double over in pain.Â
âHey, come hereâ a voice whispers, the rasp of sleep still hanging over it.
You feel a tug on the back of the sheet and turn to see Johnny sitting up in bed, one hand rubbing his barely open eyes while the other clings to the sheet around you.
âIâm sorry if I woke you upâ you apologize, too embarrassed to make eye contact, âIâll just get my things andââ
âNo, come hereâ he insists, pulling you closer to his bed, âCome lay with me.â
Something in you says to resist itâyou shouldnât be crawling into bed with Jaehyunâs roommateâbut Johnnyâs already taking you by the hand, guiding you down into the empty spot beside him. No words are spoken as he pulls the soft blanket over the two of you, tucking it at your side to keep you warm.
His head hits the pillow, heavy lids closing, as he pulls you into his chest. Thereâs tension at first, on your part only. A hesitance to allow yourself to fully relax into the gentle embrace youâve been desperately pining for. But the longer he holds you, his palm massaging your lower back in soothing figure eights, the more you soften.
âYou donât deserve this, you know?â he finally says when your tears have subsided and your breathing has evened out enough for you to speak. Thereâs exhaustion in those words as he says them, giving the impression that this is something heâs wanted to ask you for a long time.Â
âIs this gonna be a lecture?â you sniffle, nervously patting the tears from the dips between his muscles, âBecause I really donât need a lecture right now.âÂ
Johnny laughs, letting out a yawn, âNah, itâs too early for a lecture. My brainâs not heated up yet.âÂ
âNot heated up yet? What does that even mean?â you giggle, leaning to look up at him, your nose scrunched in confusion. Johnny opens his eyes, staring back at you with those starry brown orbs, and youâre transported back to the way you felt last night. If you thought his gaze made you want to melt from afar, itâs reducing you to volcanic ash at this distance.Â
âWell, itâs like, when you first wake up your brainâs cold. Your thoughts are all jumbled so youâve gotta wait a little, let it heat upâ Johnny explains, the tips of his sable hair kissing your face. Â
âYouâre, uhâŠâ you stutter, searching for the perfect word, âReallyâŠinteresting? Yeah, youâre interesting, Johnny Suh.âÂ
The most genuine smile takes over that handsome face as he lets out a joyful squeak, sincerely flattered by your comment. âYeah? Well, so are you. Youâre really interesting and cool and cute. I did mean that last night. You are cute.â
You tuck your head, trying to hide a smile of your own, but Johnny caresses your cheek, bringing you right back where he wants you. âWhy do you let him treat you like that?â he asks without the slightest bit of judgment. Your smile fades as you contemplate a question you arenât even sure you know the answer to. You file through 1001 possibilities before coming to the raw, painful truth.Â
âI was trying to prove something, I guessâ you confess, feeling an odd sense of relief at admitting this to him and yourself. âI thought if I could obtain the unattainable itâd be proof that I was special.â
Johnny scoffs, rolling his eyes, âJaehyun? Unattainable? I could fuck him if I complemented him enough.âÂ
âThanks, that makes me feel so much betterâ you huff, beginning to regret that moment of vulnerability.Â
âNo, Iâm sorry! I didnât mean it like that. I just mean that he isnât one of those people that can appreciate when they have something special.âÂ
You shrug in defeat, letting your fears tumble freely from your lips, âYeah, I donât know if any guy can at this point.â
âSo you think weâre all the same?â he asks, tilting your head to let your lips brush his. His lips are like static, making the little hairs on your arm stand on end. Your heartâs running a marathon and the butterflies in your stomach are throwing fits. This canât be happening. Only it is.
You swallow hard, inhaling the scent of the fresh morning air meddled with his cologne. âWell, IâŠI mean no oneâs really shown me any different.âÂ
Johnny presses his lips to yours, lingering there for a moment to savor the warmth of your kiss. âCan you give it some time?â he whispers, fingers charting a course across the curve of your hip to take your hand into his.Â
âIt or you, Johnny?â you ask, silently begging him not to say a thing if itâs not something he means.
âHmm,â he hums, bringing your hand up to gently kiss your inner wrist, your palm, your fingertips, âMe.âÂ

Youâve definitely become one of my favorite Elvis writers on here, Marina.
And I wanted to ask you, are you planning to do more Elvis series? Like a series of Hollywood!Elvis, where he fights to be a serious actor and falls in love with one his co-stars. Or more Elvis AU, since we already have Pirate!Elvis. For example Cowboy!Elvis. Spy!Elvis like a James Bond or Agent Elvis. Mafia!Elvis. Even a Superhero!Elvis.
I think youâd do such a good job bringing all those concepts to life đ€
My sweet anon, thank you so much, what a kind thing to say, Iâm so glad my writing has brought you joy. đđžđ As for AUâs I did start a series about Hollywood E, yet never finished it. And for now Iâve got riverboat Captain E and father figure E to chew and thatâs a lot on its ownâŠbut never say never. I think this would be something Iâd have to have pitched to me and see if it resonates? So far Iâve not fully cooked up anything else original that hasnât been done better by others. Iâm always happy to dish out recs, fyi.
BUT THAT SAIDâŠIâm messing around with little snippets, a filthy fairytale in collaboration with @elvisabutler and this demented Regency Elvis headcanon below that âmy sexy secretaryâ @ab4eva took down from a chat. EnjoyâŠ
I Bet on Losing Dogs -đ„ A Regency Elvis Blurb
18+ blurb, warning sexual content ahead, arranged marriage, romance novella style stuff
Imagine this: Regency Elvis whose wife has recently left him for a foreigner, taking with her his only child -a daughter who cannot inherit. He needs an heir.
Zero promises of love or fidelity or even bare respect for his new wife butâŠthereâll be position and status and jewels so long as you perform your wifely duties without complaint.
Jaded and lonely, I need freshly betrayed Elvis buying off a nobleman for his daughter, a Baron whoâs mortgaged his estate for debts, Mr. Presley gets the association with your familyâs nobility and you get the much needed wealth that new money brings.
And so your new husband comes in nightly in an embroidered robe and a solitary lit candle to consummate your union. Heâs got all that chest hair displayed and a lil ponch of a belly showing out his robe as he slowly undoes the tie every night, never rushed, and you can feel the jitters down to your toes every time as you hug the sheet to your chin.
*Let go, Darlin,* heâs always murmuring as he pulls the sheet from your grip, *must do what needs done*
He fucks you hard and fast for such a delicate woman and then tosses you spending money to make up for it.
Reminds you after each visit to yoru chambers that you have a job to do. One single job.
*Gimme that son and maybe youâll get that sea bathinâ ya been hankerinâ for*
(Elvis is from Yorkshire if he was ever transported to an English Setting AU, ok? No question, unless the question is Irish versus Yorkish)
Each time, when he finishes and pants into the humid crook of your neck, his hand blindly strokes away your tears and he whispers in gravelly apology, *Iâll leave ya alone, moment ya start to swell, I swear it, Iâll leave ya alone lil girl*
But thatâs not why youâre crying, you wish heâd stay, he doesnât know how cold you get when he leaves you and his sweat and spend cools on your skin and leaves you shivering.
You could curse the woman who laid here before you, who broke his heart and still haunts this place, like the wall opposite the bed with its outline of a portrait missing on the sun-bleached wall.
You wonder what she looked like, this missing wife.
You wonder if she secretly craved the burning stretch of him like you do, possibly not if she left for someone moreâŠcontinental. Was he too voracious for her? Or was it the loneliness that finally ate her through like the moths who try the same with the bed canopy.
One night, Mr. Presleyâs hand slips from your shoulder down to your breast, very rarely does he maul you there except in his direst paroxysms of pleasure, but tonight he slips and grabs and itâs so sore you nearly cry aloud from the ache.
*I swear Iâll leave ya be* he had said and you bite your lip savagely, cinch your corsets cruelly and wonder how to make him love you, tolerate you even. Anything so that youâre not left alone like he promises.
Are your breasts sore from being with child? You worry so.
So the next night you scheme, and when he shakes atop you and catches his breath and makes to roll away, you grab hold of him and keep him close.
*Six months* you murmur, and he seems confused by your meaning, *six monthâs youâve visited me nightly save for menses and Lent, and no child to show for it. Wonât you stay? Nurse says if the man remainsâŠafterâŠthe chances are greater.*
Ensuing cockwarming between two people whoâve barely spoken outside of bedâŠlittle chatsâŠbecause neither can sleep and in fact, he doesnât really sleep that much at all, he admits.
*what do you do then? At nights?* you ask.
He reads a lot, he tells you and heâs got a telescope, and you tentatively ask if heâll read to you.
He agrees with a shy *i-if ya want that, I will*
About the books. You asks if he will tonight instead of leaving and he says yes.
Then he hesitates and asks lowly, *can weâŠonce more?âŠbefore?*
He asks if he can do it again, before he grabs the books, because he firmed up again while acting as a stopper in your warm cunt.
Youâre already a wet mess down there and perhaps he moves you around, spoons you.
Puts himself back in and youâre so wet from what he gave you before and your excitement at the intimacy you feel in this movement.
And due to the difference in angle, for the first time, you actually come from the feeling of your husband inside you. His flaming hot body behind you, his thick arms wrapped around your body, the delicious rub of him in your womb.
And youâre quite sure youâve already made a child but he doesnât need to know. Not yet.
Anything to keep him coming back.

i hope you're rdy bc i have 3 dabi thoughts in total for you but i'll send them individually đ§
alright let's start off easy xD
the fandom's thoughts on how dabi would react to finding out his s/o is pregnant seem to go in two different directions. either he's terrified and leaves for good or he sees it as a chance to prove that he's better than his dad. personally i usually go with the second one bc i want him to be happy xD
which leads us straight to girl dad dabi đ„ș i'll never get enough of thinking about dabi with a little girl that takes after him in a way that's almost scary. they have the same stunning blue eyes and it helps him learn to love them bc now they don't remind him of his dad anymore but his daughter instead.
she has the same unruly hair as him and it's a real pain to get under control. dabi even learns to braid her hair (it takes a while tho lmao) bc she always wants him to do it :3
your daughter also turns out to be a picky eater. her daddy doesn't like smt? she doesn't like it either. but this works the other way round as well. her daddy loves smt? she loves it as well. this becomes a little worrying tho after a while when the little girl starts to show interest in fighting heroes and worst of all: arson đ
one time you find her in her room smearing watercolors all over her face and arms - purple to be exact - bc she wants to look just like her dad. and when you tell her that she can't get the staples she so desperately wants it breaks her little heart đ
STOP RIGHT THERE MILK. STOP. RIGHT. THERE. MILK.
do you want me to cry? do you want me to shed tears so bad? like... the way dabi would absolute dote on his daughter, treating her with the outmost love and respect, never missing a chance to spend some quality time with you both like going to the sea or have late afternoon walks, granting every single wish of hers under your tender glance and smile likeâ heâs so gonna make sure she gets all the love, appreciation and attention your daughter wants and deserves.
âdad, i want some candies!â
âsure thing lil mochi.â
âdad! i want that plushie!â
âright away little pixie.â
âthe moon looks so pretty!â
âiâm on it.â
âdabi noââ
at some point you gotta step in because heâs so ready to comply to every single request she does, even the craziest ones, a single syllable of your daughter and dabi is already on the move with the most chill and stoic face ever.
like that one time the three of you went to the zoo and your daughter said a simple âmr. lion looks so majestic, i love it so much!â, the next thing you know dabi was climbing up the fence, with the guards yelling at him that he canât while you stand there trying to hide yourself behind your hands, not from the embarrassment but because of laughters since you didnât expect him to do something so extreme âmy daughter wants a lion and iâm gonna give her that fucking lion, ya heard me?!â, yeah no, heâd definitely go ballistic at any request from his little mochi.
in the end you guys got away with a plushie of a lion that your daughter loves, but to which dabi clicked his tongue at because he wanted to give her the real thing and not a miniaturised version of it, in all this youâre just laughing amused at funny all this situation was for you.
and iâm not allowing anyone to fight me about this, he would 100% read your daughter fairytales before going to sleep. dabi would lay with her on her small bed letting your daughter use his chest as cushion while he reads with soft soothing voice the fairytale of the night, once sheâs asleep he would gently tuck her in and kiss her on the forehead lovingly, because she is one of the most precious existences to him.
and as you looked at them tenderly from the doorway, arms crossed to your chest, you really thought that dabiâs initial fear of not being a good dad was for nothing because he turns out to be an awesome dad for the splendid daughter you two have.
#kelin responds#answered#đ„#bnha fluff#mha fluff#dabi fluff#touya todoroki fluff#bnha headcanons#mha headcanons#dabi headcanons#touya todoroki headcanons#please dabi and a daughter?!?! would be so fucking wholesome i'm gonna cryâ#the amount of cute dresses you two would buy for her... the way he would jump up to every ride at the park only to play with her...#the way he would carry her around by making his little mochi sit on his shoulder or behind his neck...#or how he would let her sit on his lap and make dumb faces only for the sake of making her laugh#and then when she falls asleep on his chest he falls asleep right after her...#i can't do thisâ he's so damn precious i just...

'Cause saying goodbye is death by a thousand cuts Flashbacks waking me up I get drunk, but it's not enough 'Cause the morning comes and you're not my baby I look through the windows of this love Even though we boarded them up Chandelier still flickering here 'Cause I can't pretend it's okay when it's not It's death by a thousand cuts....
â©EGO JINPACHI- WE WERE NEVER MEANT TO BE TOGETHER/ SOMBERBLOOM
I was too stubborn And i made excuses Thought I could keep you If I didn't admit that We were never meant to be together This was never gonna be a fairytale Even though I know that this is over I can't figure out why it still hurts like hell Ah We were never meant to be together....
âżANRI TEIERI- I SUNK IN ALL THE MEMORIES/ VANCOUVER SLEEP CLINIC
I sunk in all the memories You've woven around my deepest dreams Your voice a haunting melody And I hear it calling out to me tonight And I'm falling through the sky To the angel's song Diving deep into the night Because love You're still the only one Who makes my heart burn like the sun And the remedy of your touch Would leave the deepest cut And love It couldn't be unsung No matter where I run The avalanche will come It comes, I let it come....

got any book recs?
mm! always and forever!
Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan was a very interesting read if you like dark fairytales. Inspired loosely by "Snow White and Rose Red", which is a fairly underrepresented tale as they go and she has an interesting take on it. About the life of a poor, abused girl who manufactures her own fairy tale without considering the consequences. Also, men in bearskins, sympathetic witchcraft, and the agonies of motherhood. I can't tell if I would thoroughly recommend it or not, but it was incredibly interesting and the author has a very compelling way with words-- I can't place exactly what compels me so much about it, but there's a certain bloodiness I find appealing. Please mind the trigger warnings for this book-- would be happy to give a list if DMed or asked. I could describe it as a lighter, more spatially-complex partner read to Otessa Moshfegh's Lapvona. Great to read on a cold winter's night.
The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi is delightful. It's like Bluebeard but if Bluebeard was a beautiful and insane Asian woman. A man realizes his wife is not who she says she is and works to unravel the past she refuses to let him ask about. If you grew up on fairytales this is for you because the patterns, motifs, cycles, and superstitions shown will scratch your brain like no other. It's written in an incredibly lush sort of style that just blankets your brain the same way humidity does on a hot summer night. The twist is predictable but no less satisfying and horrifying for what it is. I found this to be exactly the kind of book I hoped it'd be. To me, a hot and sticky summer evening kind of read, when everything feels so beautiful you feel like you're hallucinating.
The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue (and related books) by Mackenzi Lee is my current favorite YA light read. It's a silly romp through Victorian England following the aristocratic Montague siblings and their various escapades all over Europe as they chase their respective dreams. Monty is clearly my favorite (I love a short idiot bisexual guy) but I think the author does a great job of fleshing out each of the trilogy's protagonists despite the fact that Monty is also very clearly her favorite as well. It deploys magical realism with a pleasingly light hand, has an endearing sense of humor, and has a lot of heart. It's not that deep and doesn't need to be. It's just exactly what you want all YA of that type to be. Perfect for a beach read.
In the House in the Dark of the Woods by Laird Hunt is insane. It's another fairytale-styled novel (I've been on a bit of a kick lately) but the narrative is insanely dense and the semi-whimsical narrative voice is an absolutely bonkers contrast to how convoluted and dark the plot is. It's set in colonial America and focuses on a housewife trying to break her own day-to-day dullness by venturing into the woods surrounding her husband's house. I read this a bit ago and there are many images and motifs that still live rent free in my head. If this book was a color it'd be a deep green so rich and dark it'd be almost black. It is so dense and chewy and has so many tantalizing little details and edges of other stories that you keep wanting to pull on, but the main narrative is so convoluted and tense that you have no other choice but to stay on the path. A good fall book in front of a fire.
#surprised that all of a sudden these recs had a theme but you know#your brain creates patterns you only figure out later#answered#anonymous#this was a really fun ask to get! thank you!#if anyone ends up reading any of these i'd love to hear thoughts in my inbox!!!#these all sound so pretentious but they're FUN PLEASE THEYRE FUNNNNN

I'm doing this far too much lately. Saying goodbye to a friend I never met.
The man in the striped shirt is Shane MacGowan, first lead singer and songwriter for The Pogues - the first Irish punk band anyone had heard of widely in the USA.
He died today, November 30,at the age of 65. With Shane if you didn't know him the first things you might think is, " Oh he passed pretty young" . If you did it was, "Wow he made it that long?"
Shane was a towering talent, a junkie, a poet and often a complete bastard. His own band had to put him out because of his drug problem and general arsehole behavior - supposedly he said, "What took ya so long?"
In the early 80's there were rumbles in the music magazines about a band who went by Pogue Mahone ( which my mom used to yell at people who cut her off in traffic). They had to change it to just The Pogues because too many people knew the same phrase and they could not get any television spots or be on MTV.
Elvis Costello was a fan and helped produce their first widely played USA album "Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash" in 1985. I was in my punk/proto New Wave phase at the time and was able to get someone to drive me to the nearest large city in order to buy the LP in a ratty little store next to a CBGB wanna be bar. I'll admit that the title was the big selling point for my immature self and I had no idea what to expect (as Mr. Joel said, you can't get the sound from the pages of a magazine, even if that magazine was CREAM).
The 5th track was "A Pair of Brown Eyes" and Shane's plaintive not quite on key voice caught me as he mourned the cost of death and hate while staying intensely human. On Side 2 was "Dirty Old Town" by Ewan MacColl. For an Irish American kid from a dying mill town who didn't even have a word for her sexuality the lyrics and Shane's voice put words to my experience even an ocean away from the trauma and violence of Ireland in the 80's. "Dreamed a dream by the old canal. I kissed my girl by the factory wall... " that was me, a bumbling scared girl in a tiny canal and mill town hiding to kiss a girl because it just made more sense even if I knew it would make life even harder.
And that album has never left my possession, changing formats but bringing me back to who I once was when I owned that first LP. Nostalgia is sweet when you know you will never have to be that self in that situation ever again. But good music is good music.
I kept up with Shane through the wild swings of his career and life . Though I don't think his post Pogues music was ever up to the level of those albums - "Red Roses for Me" to "Hell's Ditch" set the standard and pointed the way for bands like Dropkick Murphy's and Flogging Molly with the blending of Irish traditional influence and modern storytelling.
And he made it to 65,changing music, writing the song "Fairytale of New York" ( will somebody explain to me why this is considered a Christmas song staple? Has anyone besides me actually listened to the real lyrics which require cutting on broadcast radio? Just because Christmas is mentioned several times doesn't make this a happy Christmas song!)
I'll stop clutching my pearls and get back on track.
I needed to write this to just get my feelings out . Shane and the other members of the Pogues were the soundtrack to a vital part of my life where I found love, lost it, and found that love had never really gone , I just needed to get my self in good enough shape to accept it.
Thank you Shane, you magnificent, miserable , romantic, drunken junkie of a poet and music maker. Your voice is always in my memories of a muggy summer evening by an abandoned paper mill in Nowhere , New York.
If you haven't heard anything by Shane besides "Fairytale" go now and give a listen to " Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash" and its follow up "If I Should Fall From Grace with God".. You will see that even punk Irish bands during the IRA's height - with all the anger, sorrow and joy that life means, can make you want to get up and dance.
#shane macgowan#time passes whether we want it to or not#the pogues#pogue mahone is slang for kiss my ass#just in case you didnt bother to look it up

The Tearsmith (2024)
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
The more time passes, the more I realize I was too harsh on the Twilight series - particularly the first film. The Tearsmith is the latest version of the good girl, dangerous boy doomed romance YA novel adaptation genre. The leads have great chemistry, which means it will definitely appeal to its target audience. Older viewers will roll their eyes at the melodrama, meaning they might enjoy it too - if they like chuckling at bad films.
Orphaned when her parents die in a car crash, eight-year-old Nica is sent to the oppressive Sunnycreek Orphanage, overseen by the cruel Margaret Stoker (Sabrina Paravicini). Nicknamed âThe Graveâ, the orphanage is a dreadful place where children are physically and emotionally abused when they misbehave. Years later, a teenage Nica is adopted by Anna and Norman Milligan (Roberta Rovelli and Orlando Cinque). As sheâs about to leave with her new parents, the brooding and acidic Rigel (Simone Baldasseroni) catches the Milligansâ attention. They decide to adopt him as well. Despite her best efforts, Nica has always been attracted to Rigel. Now, sheâll be free to act upon her feelings - for better or worse.
You're wondering what this film has in common with the 2008 high schooler-vampire romance. That's because you haven't seen Simon Baldasseroni's Rigel. With his chiseled abs, dark hair, pale complexion and push-me-pull-me attitude towards Nica, heâs almost a carbon copy of Edward Cullen. Thereâs even a scene where he saves her from walking into oncoming traffic. Every time he and Nica interact, their conversation is capped by a disgruntled remark about how she should stay away. If only she could. In her defense, his efforts to distance himself seem halfhearted. He gets obsessively and dangerously jealous of the classmate who asks her out, Lionel (Alessandro Bedetti). But Rigel and Nica could never be an item because "she deserves a fairytale ending and heâs a wolf" (Werewolf? I wish). Everyone knows wolves are the villains in all fairytales, so you should stay away from them (despite what Nicaâs mother said before she passed). In summary, heâs too broken and dangerous to be loved! Oh, and they're "brother & sister".
You can tell The Tearsmith is based on a novel from the subplots and secondary characters. Thereâs Asia (Juju Di Domenico), the girl who dated the Milliganâs now-dead son and still mourns him, Nica's one friend from the orphanage, Adeline (Eco Andriolo), and her new best friends at school: Billie (Nicky Passarella) and Miki (Sveva Romana Candelletta). You could've cut them all out without affecting the main plot. Once you understand that, everything becomes a clichĂ©. Every year, someone anonymously sends Billie flowers and a love letter. You should be able to deduce the identity of the secret admirer without problem. Remember that the book was written in 2021 and that all the subplots are essentially self-contained and ultimately, superfluous.
In a way, the villainous Margaret Stoker is also unnecessary because thereâs so much going on in this movie. Nica survived a traumatic car crash and spent years in an orphanage. She didnât also need to be messed up by a Jonathan Crane-like headmistress. Her possible romance with Rigel wouldâve already been taboo/strained because theyâre adoptive siblings. We didnât need an enemy making things more difficult for them. Gloomy Rigel is already doing plenty on his own.
The Tearsmith (a title that's explained at the beginning but doesnât quite make sense to me) often generates awkward laughs. More than once, the plot moves at break-neck speed, making you wonder if these peopleâs emotions are always taking them for a roller-coaster ride, or if weâre just skipping through weeks - if not months - worth of events. Criminal acts, including attempted murder, are never reported to the police. Then, thereâs the not-really, but sorta incestuous romance between Rigel and Nica, which will have you screaming âNooooo!â Over and over.
All that said, I can understand why this film has proven so popular on Netflix. Simone Baldasseroni and Caterina Ferioli have terrific chemistry. There are many scenes where you wonder if this is going to be their first kiss, or if Rigelâs dark side is going to pop up again, which makes the film exciting. The two are not related, which makes the scenario sort of appealing for teens who won't realize how demented a romance this is. One thingâs for sure, you love to hate the villains (yes, there's more than one). Does that mean I recommend it for teenagers? Not quite. There are too many romantic double standards and the backward attitude about how you should comfort someone who's been attacked kills a lot of its romance - but itâs close. I will also note that the film is rated R for nudity (donât worry, everyone at the time it takes place is eighteen years old), so, you know, thereâs that.
The Tearsmith is entertaining - sometimes the way it intends to be. Generally, however, itâs a bizarre mashup of Dickensian orphanage drama and Stephenie Meyer-brand romance. My least favorite thing about the film is that unlike 50 Shades of Grey, 365 Days, After and so many other Twilight clones, The Tearsmith does not end in a to-be-continued. Instead, it abruptly tells us the fate of the most important characters and ignores everyone else. At least you canât accuse it of overstaying its welcome. Do you have any dark gothic/horror book recs? Iâm trying to get out of thrillers at the moment. also looking for some dark classics. any ideas?
I was waiting to answer this until after the Bella's Book Club summer reading reclist went live and now it's live!! and I must say, full of some Choice gothic recs. But I'll list my personal faves here!
Darkâą things from my part of the BBC reclist:
Jamaica Inn (and My Cousin Rachel) by Daphne du Maurier - iirc I described Jamaica Inn as gothic + adventure in my recs, and yep, that's what it is. definitely part of the specific "the book cover shows a woman in a nightgown running from a scary building" gothic heroine tradition. I also gave a brief nod to My Cousin Rachel because it's another of du Maurier's works which I think is underrated (that one's more of a slow-burning gothic mystery featuring a hero of the 'little wet babygirl' variety.)
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia - Also as I said in my recs, it's very like Jamaica Inn in structure and genre, though of course the writing, the specific characters, and the central mysteries are different. But MG is (of course) Mexican and has more fun Get Out/Ready or Not vibes with its themes of class and ethnicity.
Girls Running from Houses by tanaudel on redbubble
Perfume: the Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind - Villain protagonist villain protagonist! This one I love mostly for its flowery prose and sheer aesthetic commitment. You're telling me this 18th-century French serial killer turns his victims into perfume?? Say more
The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey - Seriously the most underrated YA series of all time. Also so gory and terrifying I sometimes cannot believe it's YA. To this day some of the scariest written horror my eyes have beheld, not to mention it's got banger prose. Most people know Rick Yancey from The 5th Wave which is such bland cookiecutter 2010s YA dystopia love triangle nonsense that I just want to shake everyone and go NO, READ THIS BRILLIANCE INSTEAD! ngl the last book in the series is Not Good (you can 100% tell he had switched all his energies to 5th Wave, which is a shame) but the first 3 are absolutely good enough to make up for it.
Other people's reclist recs that I too have read and enjoyed: Rebecca (Daphne du Maurier), We Have Always Lived in the Castle (Shirley Jackson), Dracula (Bram Stoker), Frankenstein (Mary Shelley)
More classics: The Turn of the Screw by Henry James (short and easy read!), The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (a must-read for aesthete gays everywhere. I mean cmon it's Oscar)
Extremely melodramatic "classics:' I loved reading Louisa May Alcott's little known "flops" A Long Fatal Love Chase and Behind a Mask (short story collection.) I might make Book Club read Love Chase at some point because I think we'd have way too much fun with it. We'll see.
My personal favorite that I think everyone should read: The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter (short story collection of gothic fairytale retellings!)
Not exactly what you think of when you hear 'gothic' per se but definitely Dark and it's my OTHER favorite: Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer (I never shut up about this book and it's for a reason. Very different from the movie, which I also love!)
My favorite gothic/horror authors:
Shirley Jackson - I've definitely talked about her before but both The Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle are straight bangers (and short, easy reads to boot!) Do NOT think you can watch the Mike Fl*nagan Hill House show of the same name and call it a dayâthey're completely different stories. (also let the record show I'm censoring his name out of personal dislike he hasn't done anything 'problematic' afaik calm down)
Stephen Graham Jones - Insanely good writing oh my god. I have so far only read the My Heart is a Chainsaw books but his entire oeuvre is on my TBR because he cannot lose. Also he lives in my town and I'm starstruck just knowing this fact. Indigenous (Blackfoot) author who writes about indigenous characters!
Kelly Link - Writer of banger short fiction. I particularly enjoy Pretty Monsters because it's 100% written for the Twilight girlies and clearly made with love and silliness
Grady Hendrix - I didn't loooove Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires, but I adored Hörrorstör and especially My Best Friend's Exorcism, which is a total masterpiece IMO. Another writer whose entire oeuvre is on my TBR.

If Feylin was canon though all books, do you think it would be like a good choice to separate them to give feyre the time to grow on her own and like actually age up? Because even if Tamlin don't actually mean to be like that they are very apart in age... VERY. And I don't know if SJM's tried to compesated that giving all the males characters a brain of a horny teen but... the age difference it's still there. And we can observe (and I think you made a post about it) how biased Feyre can be depending of whom she is with... She doesn't complain, and WHEN she does a simple saying makes her shut again... I don't know if it something I create of her, like a mental image or if she's really like that... But my impression is that she accepted EVERYTHING so that she can still be with the person she loved. She's is so afraid of losing that she don't set boundaries or idk stood more to her morals... As we can see with Rhysand and with TamTam. She just so young. And it doesn't mare how much Sarah tries to show how strong she is and how Glowing and sparked, she's just a twenty two years woman, that was treated like nothing by her mom, ignored by her family to the point she was desperate that NO ONE tried to saved her :(. The only human relationship before the Fae was a console, but nothing more than that. When she see red flags she always tried to convince herself that it all HER, that she's the one overreacting... And all her romantic relationships look so dangerous...
(omg bookish I'm so sorry I was just gonna ask a simple question but then I get all angsty... I hope you doing fine btw)
This is actually a really good question, but if you want me to be completely honest I think the answer to that has more to do with what type of story Sarah would've written after ACOTAR had Feylin remained canon. though I will acknowledge that the age gap even makes me feel ick at times too
These books are fantasy fairytale retellings, BATB retellings to be specific, so there's no way to wholly make that healthy. If Sarah exclusively went with that angle, the "ehhhhhh its just a fairytale my readers can look the other way and accept the relationship because its just a fictional fairytale retelling", then IMO it would work just fine. Fiction doesn't need to be sanitized, after all, and especially if it were solely marketed towards adult readers who are aware of the dangers of real life age gap relationships then Sarah wouldn't really need to. We can let it be fluffy and cute with no further introspection on the age gap because it's only fiction.
It's a more nuanced convo if we're talking YA, because as @longsightmyth has pointed out before teen pregnancies are often caused by teen girls hooking up with older adult men, not boys their age, so the romanticization of the age gap in YA and how Feylin plays into that needs a more nuanced look. Maybe here I'd argue yes, they could be separated and then meet back up decades later. That's actually. Hold up. that could be a good fic idea
And if we're also going to do the whole "abuse and domestic violence and red flags" theme from ACOMAF, then IMO I'd also say yes--separate Feylin, let Feyre grow older, and then Feyre decades later, as an established adult, can be used to explore those themes of red flags and abuse as she'll be in a place mentally where she can healthily enter a relationship with someone older than her.

hi !! I'm a big fan of your fanfics, and I just wanted to ask, what's your inspiration to write?
TLDR: I write fanfiction because I can, because Sniper hot, and because Speeding Bullet go brrr
*deep inhale*
Hi there, and thank you so much!
That's such a great and difficult question! I can't really explain what draws me to a pairing, such as Sniper/Scout, which I assume is what you have read :D, but my fanfics are always based around a couple as I am a sappy romantic.
Most of my TF2 fanfiction ideas have come to me either in the shower or on walks, when I can actually shut my mind off and just play out dialogue scenes in my head. All of my ideas for Speeding Bullet fanfics have to fit my idea of the dynamic between the couple (and that's a whole other post right there). I've noticed other writers portray their relationship as more casual, incredibly random, very sappy, or actually unhealthy and abusive. I am forever fighting not to make my Speeding Bullet stuff too sappy and to not make Scout into a 'weak' character just because I see him as a bottom ;)
'Marry You' was actually slightly inspired by a Bridgerton fanfiction where the main couple elopes to avoid the female lead being forced into an unwanted marriage. Of course, the flavour was very different because it is a period romance, but I found the main concept of a rushed marriage between two characters who want each other but won't spit it out really hot :p
'Not Your Typical Fairytale' came to me on a hike in the fall, before I had even finished 'Marry You'. The moment it all came together was beautiful :) I had read a really cute YA novel 'Goose Chase' about a young girl who escaped a tower she had been put in by two princes who both wanted to marry her, and then went on an adventure through her fantasy world while being pursued by them. I saw the potential, and then got to thinking how I could make a Sniper/Scout story with Scout being the one in the tower and escaping/running from Sniper and the other mercs. I had to find a good reason for Sniper to want him, he's not the kind of man to just get obsessed with a random guy for no reason and then chase him across the kingdom. I can't say more because spoilers.
'Run Rabbit Run' was literally just 'Sniper chasing Scout go BRRRRRR'
I will say that smut does play a part in my writing; these are usually the scenes I think about first, and the ones I enjoy writing most. Loving moments and jealous/light possessiveness come in a close second and third though. At the end of the day, I write what I want to see and what I feel is missing in this beautiful fandom, and pray that my fans like it <3
If you were asking what my motivation/inspiration is to actually sit down and write, it is kind of an escape, ngl. I have also found this community to be the only place I can really talk about TF2 and how frighteningly obsessed I am with two fictional men whom I would not like to meet in real life, haha. I definitely get some validation from people enjoying my work, and I am absolutely a much better fictional writer for all my practice as well. (I also just find Speeding Bullet hot and like reading/writing about it ;))
Man, I hope some of that answered your question!

Love in the air
Interior Holodeck of the USS Fairytale. Emma, daughter of Captain Snow White, and Ensign Balefire, son of Dr. Belle, are on a date.
Emma (enjoying herself Shooting at the hollo image of enemies they encountered before) : this is very romantic.
Balefire: i don't see how but if you're happy I'm happy.
Emma: "This is very romantic."
Balefire: "I don't see how, but if you're happy I'm happy."
Emma: "You always know what makes me happy
Balefire: of course I do."
As the two ensign embrace each other for a passionate beep the intercoms Go on line Ensign Emma Nolan report to the captain's Ready room
Baelfire: Every time
Emma (giggling) is not often Bae.
Bae: "What did you do this time?"
Emma: "Nooooothing." (innocent look)
Bae: "Emma, your mother only calls you when you're in trouble."
Emma: "Oh, okay, you got me. I did do something."
Bae: "Tell me."
Emma (flirty tone): "Guess."
Bae: "Oh, come on. What did you do?"
Emma (flirty): "I cannot tell you. I might just have to show you later."
Bae: "Emma!" (with a chuckle)
Emma: "It's a surprise, bae. You'll love it, honest."
Baelfire: "Last time you said that we were stuck cleaning the bathrooms of the Fairytale."
Emma: "This time I promise it will be better."
Baelfire: "Fine Em. I am looking forward to your surprise."
Emma: "Oh, you won't be disappointed."
Bae: "Okay, but you should get going."
Emma: "Yeah, I know. I am headed there right now. See ya later."
The two give each other a kiss, and then Emma makes her way to her mother's ready room.
Snow: "Emma, I called you here an hour ago."
Emma: "Sorry, mother. I was on a holodeck date and didn't even hear the intercom. It is a huge ship."
Snow White: "Emma don't lie to me. I am well aware that everyone heard the intercom."
Emma: "Okay, but if this is about Ensign Lily, she started it."
Snow: "I did not know that."
Emma: "Well if its me about changing the label on the salt and sugar that was just a prank."
Snow: "What? I didn't know that either."
Emma: "Then why did you call me here, mother?"
Snow: "I called you here because I wanted your opinion. I was thinking of redecorating my ready room but now I am considering grounding you."
Emma: "Mom, I am 20 years old you can't ground me."
Snow: "Wanna bet, young lady?"
Emma: "I am not a child mother.
Snow: "And yet you insist on acting like one."
Emma: "Oh, come on, mother."
Snow: "Don't give me that young lady. If you are going to act like a child, then I will start treating you like one."
Emma: "Mother!"
Snow White: "Yes daughter."
Emma: "Mother! I'm a grown woman."
Snow: "Then prove to me you are. Because if I catch you behaving like a child again, I will treat you like one.
Emma: "Mother, no!"
Snow: "No, you don't want to prove to me you're a responsible adult?"
Emma: "Mother, I am a grown woman. I go on holodeck dates. I do my duties. I'm responsible."
Snow: "Emma, you're a good officer. I won't lie, you are better than me when I was your age. But you're reckless, impulsive, and don't think things through. You took a shuttle to play chicken."
Emma (blushingly): "That was because of a dare."
Snow: "My point exactly. What kind of grown woman risks her life like that? So, until you prove to me you are an adult, you will be treated as a child."
Emma: "No fair!! But fine, treat me like a child."
Snow: "Glad we understand each other."
Emma: "Mother, you are a cruel woman."
Snow: "I love you too sweetie."
Emma: "Mother, you know I love you, but I will be out here proving myself. That way you don't have to treat me like a child anymore."
Snow: "I know Emma, but you are my child. Just try and remember to be more responsible."
Emma: "Promise, mother."
Snow: "Good girl."
Emma: "Mother, I've got to get back to my date."
Snow: "Alright dear, just remember to be more responsible."
Emma: "I will mother. See you later."
Emma returns to her date and tells Baelfire everything her mother said.
Baelfire: "I think you'd look cute in pigtails and dresses."
Emma (playfully): "Shut up."
Baelfire: "What? Just saying."
Emma: "Whatever. You are still annoying."
Bae: "And yet you love me."
Emma: "Yes, I do. Let's get married."
Baelfire: "What? You can't be serious."
Emma: "Why not? We've been on a dozen dates. We love each other. Why not get married?"
Bae: "For starters, your parents would kill me."
Emma: "Dad was just saying that to scare you. It won't be a problem."
Bae: "Your mother could fire me."
Emma: "I know, but if you keep me happy, she won't have a reason to fire you, right?"
Bae: "Fine, let's get married then."
Emma: "Yay! I'm so happy. Now, what should we do for the wedding?"
Bae: "Well obviously invite our families, but we also have to search for space for you and me on this ship."
Emma: "Oh, right. So, we have to plan a wedding. Hmmm⊠Should it be on a holodeck or in the cargo hold? I think the holodeck would be nice. What do you think?"
Bae: "What about on the moon, or Planet Vegeta, or in the Enchanted Galaxy, our home world?"
Emma: "Hm, those are good ideas. But don't you think we should stay close to our families since we are planning on inviting them to the wedding?"
Bae: "We work and live with our family and friends. All we have to do is put in a request and your mother might say yes. If she says no we will do a holodeck wedding."
Emma: "True. Okay, we'll put in the request. I hope she says yes."
Bae: "What about food?"
Emma: "Hm, maybe we should eat something from the replicators. Oh, I've heard that there is an amazing pastry that they make on the bridge. Or I could ask one of the chef-officers to make us a meal."
Bae: "What about food?"
Emma: "Hm, maybe we should eat something from the replicators. Oh, I've heard that there is an amazing pastry that they make on the bridge. Or I could ask one of the chef-officers to make us a meal."
Baelfire: "You're right. Remember to get Tiana, the chef-officer."
Emma: "Okay, will do. What about our clothes? Should we stick with uniform or get something more formal?"
Bae: "I prefer formal."
Emma: "Okay, I guess we will have to ask a fashion officer for help. Or maybe mom will know what we should wear."
Bae: "If you say so, but I suppose we could do that. who's going to officially marry us?"
Emma: "Hmmm⊠Let's think⊠Should it be the captain? Or maybe the ships priest?"
Bae (surprised): "The ship has a priest?"
Emma: "Of course, many of the crew members have a faith. The priest is there to provide guidance and assistance when needed."
Bae: "Well then, I suppose the priest can marry us. What else do we need to plan?"
Emma: "Hm, the invitation. Do we send them out? Or just make them on the holodeck? Should everyone on board the ship be invited?"
Bae: "We could just use the intercom to invite everyone."
Emma: "Hm, we could do that. But what if we wanted some privacy or wanted to only invite a few friends?"
Bae: "That's true. Well, I guess the holodeck it is. We just need to settle on a date."
Emma: "Okay, when do we want the wedding to take place? I was thinking sometime soon, but is there a particular date you had in mind?"
Bae: "We need time to send all of this out, so what do you think in two weeks on a Friday night?"
Emma: "Sounds good to me.
Bae: "Am I going to tell my mom, you'll tell the captain or do you want us to tell them together?"
Emma: "I'll tell my mom You can tell your mom.
Bae: "Okay, love."
Emma: "And you should also tell the priest, so that he can get ready."
Bae: "Yes dear."
Emma: "This is exciting. I never imagined I would be getting married so soon."
The day of the wedding arrives. The ship's priest stands at the front of a beautiful area on the holodeck. A crowd of crew members are seated in the audience. In the front row are the bride, Emma, in an elegant white dress, and the groom, Baelfire, in a dark suit.
The priest: "Brothers and sisters, we are gathered here today to witness these two enter the holy bond of matrimony. Ensigns Baelfire Gold French, do you take Ensign Emma Ruth Swan Nolan Blanchard Charming Mills to be your wife, protect her, cherish her in life until death do you part?"
Baefire: "I do."
Priest: "And Ensign Emma Ruth Swan Nolan Blanchard Charming Mills, do you take Ensign Baelfire Gold French to be your husband, protect him, cherish him in life until death do you part?"
Emma: "I do."
Priest: "Then by the powers invested in me by the captain, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
(Baelfire kisses Emma. The audience erupts in cheers and clapping.)
Baelfire carries Emma bridal style out of the holodeck and throws the bouquets of flowers. Ensign Lily Page (Emma's best friend) catches it.
Baelfire: "That's my wife, everyone!"
Emma: "That's my husband everyone!"
The audience cheers and the celebration begins.

come in with the rain - oooh i love the âtalk to⊠talk toâŠâ lyrics theyâre so yummy satisfying (ellie iâm tiredddddd)
thatâs when - this song is sweet. every song is sweet but this is different. twosongsleft
superstar - cresswell vibes! is this song about joe jonas
you all over me - ok ngl. the graffiti metaphor was pretty cringe
untouchable - guys. how is this album worse than debut
youâre not sorry - go off i guess!
white horse - taylor, iâm sorry but. this is getting repetitive. why are you always so fucking heartbroken
we were happy - FEARLESS IS MY LEAST FAVORITE ALBUM THIS IS SO BLAND IM BAWLING
donât you - this song sounds like every song which sounds like every other song on this album the moment this song ends is the moment i forget everything about it
bye bye baby - was joe jonas really that good of a boyfriend. did she have to release this song. did i listen to it in its entirety. whoâs to say. i am so ready for red
today was a fairytale - in my honest opinion. this vault song did not need to be released
change - itâs fine. a standard older sister song. she def wrote this after reading a ya novel. not sure how i feel about her christian era but whatever. hallelujah!
breathe - taylor. girly. letâs have a talk for a second: please have one song on this album that doesnât sound like every other song on this album. okay?
hey stephen - very basic. nothing really stood out to me yk? (shouldâve been replaced by mr perfectly fine tbh)
burning RED

holy ground - i love healing. i love getting over it. i love moving on.
treacherous - FORBIDDEN LOVE!!!!
i almost do - THIS HURTS SO MUCH THIS IS JUST THE 1 IN A DIFFERENT FONT
the moment i knew - this song is genuinely so heartbreaking knowing the details of taylorâs twenty first birthday⊠fuck you j*ke
the lucky one - yk what her vocals are kinda funky on this one but whatever
sad beautiful tragic - at first i was going to rank it lower but then i heard the bridge and đ€
the very first time - this is such a cute song i cant wait to listen to it when i fall in love
nothing new - THE LUCKY ONE VIBES !!
state of grace - ok idk if itâs just me but this kinda sounds like a modern day christian worship song? in all seriousness i am obsessed with this song. very movie soundtrack esque.
better man - ooh good soup. i love how she kinda has flashbacks in this song like in all too well.
starlight - really adorable!! i love the dreamy vintage aesthetic and the guitar. could totally see a grandma at some retirement home recounting her glory days.
come back⊠be here - sheâs written better yearning songs. this is whatever
run - what is ed doing here!!!
everything has changed - iâm not a big fan of eddie but he wasnât bad in this. plus the joker and the queen is such an iconic music video.
i knew you were trouble - so dramatic and for what!!! she slayed
forever winter - this is literally winlet from scarlets pov ???
girl at home - she really is a girlâs girl đ«¶
we are never getting back together - it sounds too similar to 22 for me.
22 - not one of her best hits but it still slaps
babe - mid.
message in a bottle - nothing about this stood out to me. not my favorite.
stay stay stay - ew. barf. i hate it.
i bet you think about me - the worst taylor swift song yet. why is there a cacophony of harmonica in the chorus.
#if i was less lazy it wouldâve taken less time but alas#HERE YOU ARE !! iâm exhausted#ts ranking#ellie tag

A Curse So Dark and Lonely
ââââ; it is a truth solely acknowledged by me that the more cringefail a love interest is, the better the romance
Oh?? đđđ
fairytale retelling! i love retellings of well-known stories. something something telling the same stories as our ancestors and our descendants binds humanity together something something
it takes a while to come to light, but the love interest is one of those 'head before heart' idiots. he's genuinely shrewd, politically savvy, and calculating, i.e. exactly the sort of person who doesnt fall in love easily. which makes him being the 'beast' in this beauty and the beast retelling so compelling! he's trying SO hard to engineer feelings and its just not working đ
following off the above point: the love interest thinks he is inherently unlovable. nothing is juicier than someone who thinks they're too hard to love being proven wrong!
No.. âđ€ąđ€ź
isekai story, which as a trope teeters on the edge of losing me completely on principle; Kemmerer did manage to add enough details to keep me from totally losing my suspension of belief
just enough 'not like other girls' energy in the main character to make the first 50-100 pages hard to get through. i know its crazy, but consider: sometimes when a girl is kidnapped it's okay for her to have some level of caution / fear??
love triangle attempted(?) - wild choice from the author to make the guardsman hotter than the prince. i mean i get it, but if you're going to do that, can we not have the reason she doesn't choose him be so obviously and singularly because it wouldn't break the curse?
Summary: Harper, an 18-year-old girl with cerebral palsy, has a lot of problems - her mum has cancer, her father's a deadbeat who left them indebted to loan sharks, and her brother Jake is now working for said loan sharks to pay off those debts. Harper's always felt like a liability - too weak to help, let alone protect anyone - but when she sees a dodgy guy knock a girl unconscious in an alleyway, she has to try. Of course, no good deed goes unpunished - in the tussle, Harper finds herself magically transported to a parallel world with a whole new set of problems, including a cursed prince, an evil enchantress, and no way home.
Concept: đđđ Honestly, I didn't think too highly of this one! I had heard various criticisms about the prince being too broody and the sense of 'not like other girls' throwing others off, and it was selling itself as an unapologetic YA Beauty and the Beast retelling, so I wasn't thinking that this book would do anything crazy for me because Beauty and the Beast as a fairytale isn't my favourite.
Some spoilers under the cut!
Execution: đ„đ„đ„ On the whole, this book met my expectations exactly where I held them, which was a typical YA fantasy romance. I hold nothing against books that give me exactly what I expected - if I didn't think a book would suit my reading tastes, I wouldn't pick it up in the first place! I did have a hard time at the start - I'm pretty sensitive to 'not like other girls' vibes, so harper really grated on me, but once she and rhen understood each other better I was having a lot more fun. I kept pinballing between enjoying it (rhen being bad at romance) and rolling my eyes at it (harper being too Strong Women Feminist) through the middle but by the time we hit the 'i have to go home to see my family before its too late' story beat, the book was clawing its way to a solid 4 stars.
Personal Enjoyment: â€â€â€â€ Despite being a predictable YA fantasy romance, Prince Rhen was a pleasant surprise. It is my personal (and therefore, correct) taste that male love interests are best when they are, at heart, cringefail. Rhen fits this criteria perfectly - he can wine and dine and politick with the best of them, but what he wants to do is save his people, and for that he needs someone to fall in love with him for realsies. He is wholly unable to accomplish both (on account of him being very shit at love) until Harper jostles him forcibly out of his holding pattern - he tells her he's doomed to fail, and she still convinces him to wholeheartedly try. It makes Harper not only the heroine of the story, but specifically Rhen's saviour - that's true romance, babey!! Their chemistry was the cornerstone of me rating the book 4 stars - with special shoutout to Lilith being shamelessly used as a plot device to make the romance go. We love an evil enchantress who is petty and bitchy.
Favourite Moment: The sweetest moment of the book was definitely Harper inviting Rhen into her room after learning Lilith tortures him every night. It was such a genuinely heartfelt moment that brought them together! But I love mess, so my actual favourite moment is when they kiss right before Harper leaves for DC, only for Harper to recoil from the sharp scales growing over Rhen's skin. The horror!! The drama!! The 'if you haven't fallen in love with me at this point, you certainly won't now'!!! and then Harper just going home without any resolution at all. NO ONE ELSE was having fun in that scene but me! and THAT'S BEAUTIFUL đ
Favourite Character: Prince Vincent Aldrhen of Emberfall, cringefail king. Yes I understand he's horrible for any number of reasons, and no, I will not be retracting my statement. There's nothing more fun to me than a character who is convinced they are unlovable and has the evidence (and track record!!!) to prove it. This dude was like 'kissing this girl i like is more emotionally devastating than being magically tortured by a crazy evil enchantress every night because I will only be able to do it the once'. I can't NOT root for him to be dicked down!!
