Tsumugi: “Ahaha~ Thanks to the workings of the brain, humans are easily deceived by one’s appearance. By simply borrowing Tsumugi Aoba-kun’s body and talking in it, it makes it seem as if I really am him.”

“In reality, everything is completely different from each other, even our ages.”

Mika: “Ages?”

Tsumugi: “This is an interesting toy~ I had the same thought when virtual idols were becoming popular.”

“If the technology is well-developed and people come to accept it as something that exists in everyday life, then…”

“Maybe a few generations later, humans won’t be needed to fulfil the job of an idol. I’m sure everything will suffice with just a programme.”

“When that time comes, perhaps I will finally be relieved of my post.”

Mika: ………?

Tsumugi: “Oh, I’m not here to talk about that, though. That won’t do~ The older I get, the more airs I tend to put on.”

“Young people want to make progress quickly, don’t they?”

“In actuality, I didn’t come here to criticise you two at all. In anything, I’m here to help. I’m a helper character, after all.”

Shuu: Your help is unnecessary. How annoying. You could have appeared as the Boy or Chibisuke instead.

Mika: I like Tsumu-chan-senpai, though?

Tsumugi: “Ahaha, rest assured. My role is to simply give explanations.”

“But it’s just that you two are far too useless and it seems you don’t like variety-based activities like PVP…”

“So I prepared a support character who will aid you in your PVP battles!”

Shuu: A support character…?

Tsumugi: “Yes. It’s like a set of training wheels on a bike, so if you use that support character in your PVP battles, your chances at victory will increase exponentially.”

“Think of its position in your team like an employee from another unit on temporary assignment – Or I suppose a helper.”

Shuu: A helper? We need no such thing. “Valkyrie” is complete with just the two of us!

Tsumugi: “Is that true? But originally, you were a unit of three, no?”

“I’m sure you’re working as a pair now because it was inevitable, but it’s possible that ‘Valkyrie’ can only demonstrate its true power when it’s in a unit of three.”

“The Trinity, the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan – Three has been an auspicious number since long ago.”

Shuu: It sounds absolutely suspicious hearing it from you, Aoba.

Mika: U-Uh, it’s true we were a unit of three up until last year, though? Does this, uhh, mean that the support character is…

Shuu: Huh? N-No, it can’t be. Nito should have been sent to another region as part of “Ra*bits”...

Mademoiselle: “Shuu-kuuun!”

Shuu: W-Woah!? M-Mademoiselle!

Mademoiselle: “That’s right! It’s me! Oh gosh, why do you look so surprised?”

“We’re normally always together, aren’t we? But we have to be apart when you’re on stage performing, so I’ve been sad the entire time ♪”

Shuu: T-That’s because you might be damaged so– Wait, why is Mademoiselle speaking!?

Mika: Ahaha. What’re you talkin’ about? Mado-nee has always been talkin’~♪

Shuu: Yes but that’s not the point! She’s not only speaking but moving! How is that possible!?

Mademoiselle: “Ahaha. We’re in a strange world inside a game – Something like this shouldn’t be surprising to you anymore.”

Mika: Hm~? Does this mean Mado-nee is another game character like Tsumu-chan-senpai where someone is controllin’ her?

(Yeah, I have an inklin’ and think it’s “that person” who’s inside Tsumu-chan-senpai… But who’s inside Mado-nee?)

(Or is there no one inside and it’s just one of those NPCs?)

(Ngh~! This situation is so nonsensical, I don’t know what’s goin’ on anymore!)

Shuu: Hmm… A living and moving Mademoiselle, huh.

Tsumugi: “Quite adorable, isn’t she?”

“I’m sure you feel psychologically hesitant adding Nazuna Nito-kun to your team, even as a character in a game.”

“She would be easier to accept, right? For you and for your fans.”

Mika: Hmm~ Mado-nee has always been our comrade, friend and family, though. And she’s known Onii-chan longer than I have.

Shuu: It does bother me knowing that there’s a complete stranger controlling her from the inside, though.

Mademoiselle: “Ah, don’t ask who’s inside, okay? You also don’t like others nosily digging into your personal life, right, Shuu-kun?”

“Treat others the way you wish to be treated, okay?”

Mika: Ahaha. That sounds like somethin’ motherly Mado-nee would say~♪

Tsumugi: “What do you say? I’m not forcing you but do you agree to have her accompany you two as a support character?” 

“By the way, you must pay a fee for support characters! It’s one of those so-called paid features!”

Mika: It costs money!?

Tsumugi: “Of course. Otherwise, it would be unfair to the other players. The management team for ‘SHINSEKAI’ cannot make exceptions for you two.”

“You must pay the appropriate price to receive the appropriate benefit. That’s the ABCs of sorcery… If I said that, does that make me sound a bit more like Tsumugi Aoba-kun?”

I still remember that one time he was thanking his fan for buying his tshirt merch bcs he finally has enough money to commission an animated mv.

- - - 🎭 started practicing for vsai few days ago. His team consists of him-leader, Koya (niji) and Eito (neoporte) and they called themselves 8GO- Blue Egoist (Blue Lock reference lmao). Tbh im so glad this time he's the one reaching out to people instead of being recruited. He sound genuinely happy with this team but he still downplayed his own achievements gosh i wish he stop, he got that self-destructive side idk how many times he makes his fan worry.

- - - vtubers with cloning/ possessing/ alter ego as part of their lore, i know what u are 👀~ (I assumed it deeply connected to shaping a new identity to be perceived whenever u enter a new environment, or perhaps impostor syndrome, or maybe im just projecting ☝️😞)

For context, ive been reading machina x flayon's lore blog. Sheesh how tf he do that genuinely??? It's so cool the way he dropped lore randomly and it's so good too helloooo? From short videos, streams, tweets to song cover mvs- I want his brain fr.

Honestly i aspired to be him like whatever project he's cooking i was like "OMg i was planning to do that to!!!". The RPGmaker game, the pixeled vn-styled animation bday stream, detailed, well-planned lore writing etc etc.

2) Charisma House - - - I swear Im not trying to get intro it im just curious so i peeked a little at their ytube channel. Well it basically another music multimedia project under King Records (like Hypmic) and the contents available are songs, drama tracks and manga. BUT, their drama track got English subs tho hypmic could never lmaoo (😢). Imo, while Hypmic has goofy concept with serious execution, Charisma House has goofy concept with goofy execution. I love the comedic elements in the story. (Not fully pay attention to their songs yet.)

i might watch these actually when im eating or something and yeah no i will not letting myself indulge into another fandom i hv too many pleasee.

3) Enstars - - - Mika' Link Click banner has returnedddd. My broke ass spent whole diamond savings (15k) to that banner and get nothing. (AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMIKAAAAAA PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS IT'S BEEN 1 YEAR). But then again im not that commit to farm diamonds tho so it is what is it.

Describe the plot in one sentence?

Marcos is doing his best despite his anxiousness and having to deal with his well-meaning but depressed and alcoholic mother, but every time he thinks things can’t possibly get any worse, they do. 

1. Pick one sight, smell, sound, feel, and taste to describe the aesthetic for your novel.

Sight: The first beams of sunlight after a natural disaster. 

Smell: The scent of home that you never notice until it’s not your home anymore.

Sound: Your heart beating in your ears as you lay awake at night.

Feel: Thick fur blankets on a very cold day. 

Taste: Baked sweet potato and cinnamon.  

2. Which 3+ songs would make up a playlist for the novel?

3. What’s the time period and location in which the novel takes place?

It’s in a low fantasy country Yonder. It’s more western in culture and the time period is not very defined. Technology varies from 1960s-esk to modern depending on how close you are to the capital. 

4. Are there any former titles you’ve considered but discarded?

I was originally thinking Hare-Hearted Man but prefer A Hare’s Worth. 

5. What’s the first line of your novel?

Ever since he could remember, Marcos had been worried. He worried about anything and everything and nothing at all. 

6. What’s a line of dialogue you’re particularly proud of?

“Will! Will! This is Marcos! He’s very very quiet and he likes foxes and I’m a fox! It’s great! And this is Miss Marcos’s Mum, Bridget! I think she’s nice! This is Will! He’s my big brother! He got to pick his own name! Isn’t that awesome! I like Xavier though so I’m keeping it! Sometimes he works a lot and-” Not going to lie, I love working with Xavier. He’s an earnest chatterbox who loves connecting with others. 

7. Which line from the novel most represents it as a whole?

“You shouldn’t have to see me like this. You’re just a boy.”

8. Who are your characters’ faceclaims?

I don’t really do face claims. My characters just look like themselves, y’know. Although, if you want to see what they look like, search their names in the tags in @sweetcatmintea :)

9. Sort your characters into Hogwarts houses.

Gryffindor: Xavier, Will, Xavier’s Mumzie (Doesn’t have a name yet) 

Slytherin: Mary (I guess?) 

Hufflepuff: Marcos, Hazel, Bridget 

Ravenclaw: Whitney, Frederick, Xavier’s Mama (Doesn’t have a name yet) 

10. Which character’s name do you like the most?

Xavier is one of my favourite names

11. Describe each character’s daily outfit.

I’m only doing the main pair because it’s getting late. 

Marcos - He wears long baggy pants often, along with wide necked tshirts and ponchos. He sticks to warm browns and tans as his main colours palette. 

Xavier - He likes wearing shorts and hoodies but will mix it up as he sees fit. Sometimes Mary will loan him one of her skirts if he promises not to ruin it. He likes to wear green because it’s Will’s favourite colour. 

12. Do any characters have distinctive birthmarks/scars?

Xavier and Marcos both end up with facial scars. Whitney has three dark freckles/moles on the left side of her face, one on her cheek, one near her nose, and one above her eyebrow. Xavier’s hands are a darker pigment than the rest of his skin thanks to his fox taint. 

13. Which character most fits a character trope?

Xavier is an energetic side-kick I guess.

14. Which character is the best writer? Worst?

Frederick secretly writes romance novels and has the most practice writing. Xavier has a lot of stories but has no time for actually writing them.

15. Which character is the best liar? Worst?

The worst is Hazel, simply because it doesn’t occur to her to do so. The best is probably Marcos.

16. Which character swears the most? Least?

None of my characters swear :v

17. Which character has the best handwriting? Worst?

Xavier’s is the worst, Marcos’ is the best. 

18. Which character is the most like you? Least like you?

I’m pretty hesitant like Marcos, but that’s as far as it goes. Probably least like Xavier.

Oh gosh, considering I know how their lives turn out, probably Whitney. Working in a tea shop sounds nice :)

Have you already done a review of the yaoi manga Under Grand Hotel? If so, do you have a link to it?

I have read that manga, but I actually have not done of review of it.  Which, I know, seems bizarre for me since it seems ripe for the picking.

However there is just something about Sadahiro Mika’s work that just leaves me throwing my hands up in the air. Not that her works don’t impact people or play into the problematic elements I discuss on my blog. I just can’t muster the motivation.  She’s the only mangaka I can name who regularly has reversible couples, and challenges dominant/submissive roles in BL...but I can’t come to like anything she’s made. The absurdity of her writing just makes me feel as if, I tried to review it it’d be like trying to pour lemonade into a glass with no bottom. The thing that’s odd about it, is that it’s not like her stories are utterly incomprehensible.  Like I can kinda get what she was going for....just a story where a scorned lover drugs, kidnaps, and rapes his love interest’s son to spite him, but most of that story is a tender romance that leads up to him marrying that son it’s just puts my brain on the fritz.

Hell let me try to put some thoughts into order. However, let me warn you, I read it like 3 years ago. My thoughts are pretty vague and I may well have shit totally wrong. Also Spoilers.

Under Grand Hotel is about a new inmate Sen at an American Prison.  He is put with a young criminal gang leader Swordfish. Swordfish and others rape Sen a bunch but he ends up eventually in love with Swordfish and the two escape prison to leave happily ever after on the beach.

Swordfish is, without a doubt, the biggest black character in Yaoi manga and she even had the knowledge to design him with black hair. It’s a rarity and I legitimately like his character design.  However he’s a massive criminal smeghead who doesn’t even have the decency to be of average intelligence. If I remember correctly they try to make him sympathetic because he has a kid on the outside, and can’t accept his bisexuality.  I’m pretty sure that’s it.  But like he has no character arc where he accepts his homosexual feelings. I’m pretty sure he admits that he loves Sen...but I think they framed it like, “I LOVE ONLY U CAUSE U IS SPECIAL!” and when he escapes he doesn’t do anything to support his son. SO WELP!

I legit don’t remember Sen having any real discernible personality.  I just remember him being this object that was fought over because being half Japanese makes him irresistible for some reason.  He imprints on Swordfish cause ??????????? reasons.  It’s hard for me to remember clearly the points of drama, but I remember distinctly feeling like, “Wow that’s stupid” to every single one of them.

They did treat rape as if it was a violent crime, and that in many cases it did look brutal and awful.  Also she sets it in prison and it doesn’t end up written like a bunch of goofy teens trying to make out with each other but gosh misunderstandingssssssss. However, I don’t remember them making much of an effort to discern Swordfish’s treatment of Sen from his other rapists....besides just like Swordfish is talked about more.

This is the only title by the mangaka (that I’m aware of) where the couple is NOT reversible.  Mika’s bizarre story-telling is better suited for something like a campy fantasy story but she doesn’t indulge in that at all.

TL;DR

I’m sorry but her writing is just dumb and I can’t muster the motivation to pull it fully apart. I did not like Under Grand Hotel.

You think MikaYuu will actually be canon? People always says "it won't be canon 'cause OnS is a shonen" or "it won't be canon 'cause OnS is written by a male" but I really don't think these are valid arguments. (love your blog. sorry for bad english)

Those arguments are silly. There’re actual shonen mangas with LGBT characters.

Yu Yu Hakusho was a shounen, written by a man and has gay characters and in HxH it’s kind of hinted that killugon is a thing too, because Togashi supports LGBT.

Shingeki no Kyojin has Ymir and Historia too, and it’s written by a man.

At the very least, Shonen jump might not want it to be canon but *shrugs* then all he would have to do is not pair them with someone else and hint at mika/yuu. (Like korrasami)

Now, I don’t think it’ll be canon, but because of different reasons. Like, it’s so easy to find actual good arguments as to why it won’t be canon, but homophobes aren’t smart enough to think about them anyway.

Thinking Kagami would make a gay couple canon is giving him too much credit. There’re many reasons why I don’t have faith in him but I don’t feel like addressing them.

The very few times he made couples in ons canon (or close to canon) it was through a very shitty writing and with lots of awful tropes.

If mika/yuu becomes canon I’ll be like “wow HE wrote THIS relationship as a LOVE STORY? HIM??? AFTER SO MANY BAD WRITTEN ROMANCES??? Talk about character development.”

Also, Yuu is his 2nd Gary Stu, why would he pair him with the one who seems to be his least favorite character?He’s been humiliating Mika so I doubt he’d want him to be the endgame for his precious son.

No man, he’d rather pair him with a cute girl he’ll obviously destroy, decharacterize and sexualize in the process.

That is, if he decides to pair him off with someone, but I’m not really sure he will. I mean, despite everything, mika/yuu seems to be important for this manga.

Like, most readers ship it.

And it seems obvious to me what with how he keeps repeating the same shenanigans between them to lure the shippers into keeping reading

They keep going in circles ofMika tries to get Yuu to understand -> Yuu says something “sweet” (though empty) -> Mika stays.

And so on and on and on.

I’m always hoping he’ll surprise me, you know?Like, I used to think maybe he supported the LGBT community, since he hinted at many of the characters being at least a lil gay.

But he always manages to turn it around and make it all worse and homophobic even.

Mikaela is the only one who hasn’t gone through that but he’s been made fun of and treated as the unreasonable character lately so what can I say?

Watch is as he revives Akane and somehow she’s both mentally and physically 16, so she confesses to Mika and, obviously, Mika will end up with her because fuck good writing and respect for everything a character has done and felt, right?

And watch as all the ugly homophobic fanboys mock us saying “SEE? TOLD U MIKA WASN’T GAY”

And have you got any idea about how that feels for us? Like, we go every day being told that we’re not normal, that one day we’ll find “the one” and will realize we were straight all along.

That’s what queerbaiting is. An ugly and hard slap on the face of LGBT people.

I don’t know what’s going to happen tbh. Chances are: it could happen. He could hint at mika/yuu in the end.But I don’t see it becoming canonIt just doesn’t feel like he will do it, you know?

At this point I just enjoy the fandom and all the creative smart people who love this ship like I do. I don’t want to think about canon. It hurts.

Especially when the fandom is shit towards us for saying if mika/yuu doesn’t become canon it’s queerbaiting. It would be queerbaiting, sorry your mind has been conditioned to see anything romantic between characters of the same gender as a “friends”’ only thing but gay people exist. Surprise!

The way Kagami has been writing romance lately

See, umm… there are many other things that made me think mika/yuu could happen, though, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

The beginning of their story (it really felt like they would be endgame before this new ugly arc)

hi im crying midomika chapter is great actually. midori wanders off to talk to anzu in the middle but before that! midori calls mika 'kagehira-senpai' and mika calls midori 'midori-kun'! mika's making stressed noises and midori asks what's wrong and mika's like "oh it's the noisy guy" (because midori was yelling at the rest of ryuuseitai basically destroying the kitchen) and then midori offered to help mika make chocolate because he couldnt do it himself! among other small talk i cant fit in ask

So, I'm not a smoker, right? Never have been, never will be. But there are times, y'know, when I'll just be sitting at home, and I'll think, "Man. I could really go for a cigarette!" I have neighbors who smoke pretty intensely, and sometimes I'll catch a whiff of that cigarette smell, and by golly, that's a sense memory trigger for me, brings me right on back to childhood, those summer nights driving home from bell choir practice, playing the alphabet game with my sisters while Mom took in a Marlboro Light. The scent and the memory hits, and gosh-darn, a cigarette sounds really good! And... then I'll catch that second whiff? And I'll be reminded, oh yeah, fuck that. I don't need something that gross in my life. This is what Michael Buble is to me, is a cigarette. I think about crooners, and I think, yeah, soothing voice, classy love songs, probably wearing a suit. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, yeah. Yeah a crooner in 2017 sounds nice. But then I hear a Michael Buble song, and I'm reminded, oh dear. Oh, no, I never wanted this, I just liked the idea of this, all those old dudes beat their wives I’m pretty sure, the reality is awful!

67) "Wait for You," Elliott Yamin

This is significantly less funky than "Movin' On." This was the first real single, right? That's kind of dumb. We could have been doing so much more with Elliott Yamin than giving him this ballad and saying "make this more than it is!" And he does, the only reason this song hits is dude's voice, but what a disappointing use of this voice! "Movin' On" was such a tasty jam, but you're telling me the vision of Elliott Yamin you wanted to share with the world was "more talented Clay Aiken?" FOH. There's a version of Elliott Yamin's career where he gets to jam out for a few years, THEN he takes a residency in Vegas and only releases songs like this. Instead, we get the darkest timeline, Yamin releasing one ballad and then releasing several albums in Japan only. "Katy" is a dope track only Japan gets to buy! How? How did this get screwed up so bad!

72) "Lost in This Moment," Big & Rich

here's a fun and easy way to improve this song: make it about literally any other fucking moment in the relationship than the one where you are codifying your love in the eyes of the law and your god. literally, any other one. like that's what makes "cupid's chokehold" so great, is the little moments that the dude recounts. it's not just the sunrise in her eyes, y'know? she's making pancakes. she calls you and the ringtone you have for her plays. you're talking on the phone, and you look at the clock and realize it's been three hours. he draws a unique relationship with these mundane moments that make him step back and say "wow," and it reinforces how excited he is to be in that relationship. this is stating the obvious. "ah geez, person i'm literally getting married to right now, i sure love you." great. thanks. thanks for sharing. it would've sure sucked if you didn't.

83) "Tell Me 'Bout It," Joss Stone

So right from the go, I'ma show you this Stone, and I'ma make sure you really want me to try to squeeze blood from it. You sure? It's a reasonably funky Stone, perfectly acceptable, and I don't mind its presence in my life, but I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna be able to squeeze any blood from it. I can give it my best if you desire! I'ma tell you right now, I'm doubtful I can do much with it.

95) "Who Knew," Pink

Another song that is more or less fine! Pink's great. This is probably the 14th-best Pink song. She gives it her all, and by gum is Pink's B-game better than almost anyone else's A-game, but you see I have, like, this point to prove with Jordan Pruitt? I'm not sure what that point is, but I'd very much like to make it. Ah, but then, there are optics to consider. Because if "Who Knew" isn't the one who ends the out-of-nowhere miracle run of Jordan Pruitt, it would almost certainly be Breaking Benjamin. "Breath" is a song which drops next week, it's a song I've been loving for ten years, and it would be impossible for me to justify keeping a song I've been loving for so long out of the Top 20. But "Breath" is also kinda self-serious and unfun, it's not a "cool" song to like, and it would be cruel to bounce Jordan Pruitt because this white boy can't help but love some melodic hard rock. It’s also gonna be shitty to bump Pink, but at least Pink has, like, another song in the Top 20, and also a full-ass career of hits. /sighs/ The dream is over. Again: I’m not sure what dream, but it’s over.

88) "At My Best," by Machine Gun Kelly ft./Hailee Steinfeld

Well alright, this was surprisingly okay! Not Top 20 material this late in the game, certainly not if "Ice Melts" isn't, I'm not gonna ride too hard for a song about how hard Machine Gun Kelly worked to be the fourth-best white rapper in the game, but if you're the fourth-best white rapper, that usually means you're at least listenable. The hook is structured around the biggest cliche possible in 2017, Hailee Steinfeld sells it well enough. It's a bit over-produced, but it never feels too stuffed to soar. Not bad! Legitimately, just good enough to not be bad! I can see the headlines now: Pop Song Performed Capably, Not Hated by Millions.

97) "Trap Trap Trap," by Rick Ross ft./Young Thug & Wale

Is this the most conventional verse Young Thug has ever had? Like I've never heard Young Thug just rapping for this long a period of time, but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend I've consumed every single Young Thug tape. There's nary a mouth noise to be heard! It is oddly fitting, though, that Young Thug would be at his most traditional on a Rick Ross track, Rick Ross being maybe the most average rapper still going. Like of course Rick Ross would just drop a song called "Trap Trap Trap," we're not expecting serious artistic breakthroughs from Rick Ross, who would expect that, why do you expect dumb things, nah this is kind of a perfect Rick Ross song. It's enjoyable and disposable.

BLESS JASON DERULO AND HIS COMMITMENT TO MAKING ABSOLUTELY THE DUMBEST SHIT ON EARTH. No joke, I'm into this. I mean no one won. I think 2017 somehow ended up with the better offerings. That’s the thing about boring; it’s never great, but it’s never outright terrible, either, and three of 2007′s entrants are complete failures. All the Drake songs were the same boring-ass Drake song that’s ever been, but none of them were “Moments.” It’s not an inspiring win for 2017, but evidently there’s new Iggy Azalea, so it’ll take what it can get as long as it can get it.
