on one hand im not big on sonic fankids because i find a lot of fankid/next gen stuff people do for sonic to be really out of character and i dont like sonic future aus that pair off every character into nuclear families. for so many reasons . and also all of the popular sonic ships people always make fankids for would NEVERRR in a million years have kids or even get married or anything like that for that matter . but on the OTHER hand im an enjoyer of little guys and can see the appeal from a character design standpoint of combining the traits of two characters to make a new one and think that it would be fun to play around with designs like that ..
#im also just not into fluffy domestic stuff in general usually... not that i never like that stuff ever its just not usually for me#i could only make a sonic fankid if they were born through the most wacky impossible by real life standards way possible#and their existence is funny to me somehow and doesnt directly contradict my ''this character would NOT have kids'' opinions#because of the already mentioned reasons + i mostly only like ship related scenarios when theyre funny#+ that sort of thing just feels fitting for the sonic universe.#i think that in the sonic universe babies are made through just randomly showing up one day .

If you had asked Sonic how he felt about being alone four years ago, he would've told you it was the most freeing feeling in the world.
It's not that he disliked people or didn't want to be around anyone. He had plenty of friends.
But there was something special about being able to run away from everyone and everything. He loved being able to disappear in the blink of an eye without worrying about someone trying to keep up with him.
He got to live his life the way he wanted. It was his favorite thing.
And then he met Tails.
He's always thought he wasn't fit to be part of a family. He had never been able to find someone who could even remotely keep up with him, so he didn't bother trying to find a family.
But Tails was able to keep up. And he did so without ever asking Sonic to slow down so he could. He was fine running on the hedgehog’s time, no matter how tired it made him.
And now, as he watched the red echidna bury the small coffin that held his little brother, he couldn't help but hate how alone he was now.
The guardian had been the one to offer a place on Angel Island for him. A small, secluded area that he had previously decorated for when the kid decided to come visit.
Of course he wasn't literally alone. Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, and the rest of their friends were all there to say their final goodbyes to the little fox. But that didn't change the fact that it felt like a part of himself died.
He didn't know it when he first met the fox, but it truly felt like Tails filled in a hole in his heart that he hadn't known was missing. But now that the piece was ripped out of him, it was easy to notice.
He wasn't sure how much longer he'd last without that fox. Everyone knew it, there was no Sonic without Tails. They were inseparable.
But they had been ripped apart. Whatever tether that held their unbreakable bond had been snapped, forcing them to go their separate ways.
He just wishes it was him who was forced to lay in a grave too soon rather than his baby brother.
Tails didn't deserve it. The poor kid had been fighting every sort of battle imaginable since the moment he was born and he was only eight.
The universe had no right to take him now. Not when he fought so hard to survive. Not when he gave every last piece of himself to protect it.
He could still feel the phantom traces of his brother's blood soaking into his fingertips. He could still see the way the life inside his big, blue eyes faded.
He could still feel the way the little strength that Tails held left his body, forcing him to let go of the person who promised to keep him safe as he bled out in his arms.
This was Sonic's fault.
—
Sonic wasn't sure why he ran.
To be perfectly honest, he hadn't even known he ran until he nearly greeted the Tornado with a very aggressive accidental kiss.
He wasn't sure what to do with her now. He could never be able to take care of the Tornado half as well as Tails did. And while he wasn't a bad pilot by any means, he knew he wasn't the best either. (That title went to the fox that now slept in the ground, his cold body protected by the dirt surrounding his coffin.)
He'd need to figure out what to do with the Cyclone as well. He didn't have a clue on how to pilot that one, it was quite a bit more complex than the Tornado.
After he was done sadly staring at the red biplane, Sonic hopped into the cockpit.
The lingering smell of mint is what finally broke him.
One of the few ways he could tell his brother was sneaking up on him was the way he smelled. It was always a migraine-inducing minty aroma, the scent of his favorite candy clinging to the fox's fur.
As strong as the smell was, it was comforting. It was how he reminded himself of the day he'd finally got that kid to believe he wasn't going to hurt him.
The first time that Tails ever had mint candy. Or, well, candy in general.
Sonic will never forget the way his eyes lit up, shining practically as bright as stars do when he put that first piece of candy in his mouth. And even though he was offered sweeter candies that kids his age normally enjoyed, he was firm in only eating the mint ones.
It was strange, but it was such a small thing then that it didn't really matter to Sonic. He didn't care what the kid liked to eat as long as he ate something. Even if it did have a painfully strong smell.
Sonic didn't bother with trying to wipe away his tears. Why should he, anyways? It was his brother's funeral for Chaos’ sake. He should be allowed to cry. (That didn't erase how pathetic and disgusted he felt. Did he really deserve to mourn his brother when he's the reason there's a funeral in the first place?)
He didn't get long to ponder it when something gently touched him.
It admittedly scared the shit out of him, but he knew exactly who it was before even looking towards them.
“I don't mean to interrupt your grieving,” Knuckles said guilty, his voice barely above a whisper. “But I wanted to let you know that you're welcome to stay on Angel Island with him.”
Sonic's not really sure if ‘staying with him’ is the right way to word this situation, but he's also not sure what the correct wording is so he decides to settle on a numb nod. He doesn't trust his voice to carry any sort of conversation right now.
Knuckles didn't say anything after that, but he also didn't move from where he was crouched atop the Tornado’s wing. The silence wasn't necessarily awkward, but it kept Sonic on edge.
“I know I'm not the best to talk to about emotions,” The echidna mumbled, running a paw through his quills as he spoke, “but I know what it's like to lose family. If you need help with grieving, you can ask.”
Despite the situation, Sonic managed to smile at the older mobian. He appreciated the offer a lot, and he knew he'd probably take him up on it whether he actually wanted to or not.
“I'll leave you be now.” The guardian said quietly before jumping off of the biplane’s wings. “If you wish to be alone from everyone, you can go into my cave.”
Sending the echidna a thumbs up made Sonic want to die. He was assaulted by the memories of when he and Tails first met the echidna. Back when he was unable to verbally speak, forced to hold conversations through expressions alone.
He wanted to scream, but his throat was throbbing from all the crying. He knows he should at least go see his friends, but he can't bring himself to look at any of them right now.
He decides to leave for Knuckles’ house when he feels his communicator buzz.
He gets to the cave on muscle memory alone, his mind occupied by playing the past four years on a sped up loop.
He felt insane. He would tell someone without a doubt that he's known Tails for forever, but it had only been four years since they met.
It wasn't until he collapsed on Knuckles’ bed that Sonic decided to check the message he received, not surprised to see it from Amy.
He didn't have it in him to fully read through the heartfelt message, but it was easy to understand from just skimming through it.
He figured responding to her message was the least he could do to keep her and the other from worrying about him right now.
He wasn't fine, and everyone knew that, but being around his closest friends and family wouldn't help right now.
The only thing that could help him was his little brother, but that wasn't in the cards for him. Not anymore. It's warm in the small cave, but Sonic still shivers as he curls into a ball.
He doesn't think he'll ever be warm again. Not when he felt his baby brother's body slowly grow cold.

Uncontrolled Chaos: Chapter 7
Notes: Shadow is a butthole… but he’s also going through a lot.
Summary: Sonic tries to get to know this new Shadow. Little does he know that his work is cut out for him.
Chapter Select!
Support my Ao3!
Start:
Tails leaves not too long after their initial conversation, wanting to get started on his research as soon as possible. He’ll likely need Shadow over to help eventually, but for now? Shadow needs to rest and regain his strength. It’s possible his Chaos Energy will be needed for any of this to work, so he needs to replenish as much as possible.
So Shadow stays in his home to rest, Sonic agreeing to stay as well and keep an eye on him. Shadow is certainly tired and understands that they want to keep a him under close surveillance, so he doesn’t pitch a fit over it. What does annoy him, however, is the constant feeling of emerald eyes latched onto him.
He’s constantly being observed, stared at by that blue faker’s fake. It’s getting old. And even as he lays on his couch with his eyes shut trying to rest, he knows if he opens his eyes, he’ll find emerald still watching. Still waiting..
So he doesn’t open his eyes.
Instead, he just gives a huff and gruffs out, “If you’re going to stare, at least get whatever it is you have in your system out.”
This Sonic has been so affected by all of this. So stressed and worried. It’s obvious there’s more to him than he’s telling. And Shadow is getting tired of pretending he hasn’t noticed.
He hears Sonic move after a moment, the blue hedgehog shuffling closer now, Shadow peeking his eyes open to watch him.
Sonic looks at the couch Shadow lays on, thinking better of sitting on it with him after a pause and moving to the loveseat To the left of him instead. He sighs heavy when he sits, forcing his moving body to finally sit still. He leans forward, his elbows rested on his knees with his hands dangling between them and his eyes settling right back on Shadow.
Shadow just looks back at him, eventually quirking a brow as if to prod him to speak.
“Right..,” Sonic says after a moment, a little nervous but friendly smile on his muzzle, “Okay, so—.. I guess what’s buggin’ me is I… don’t know anything about you.”
“Mm..,” Shadow hums, closing his eyes once more and facing his head towards the ceiling again from where he lays, “What’s so wrong with that??”
“Well, multiple things really,” Sonic answers, a breathy chuckle coming from him, “For one, I’d like to know what sort of life this universe’s Shadow just dropped himself into the middle of..”
“He’s safe,” Shadow assures, opening his eyes again to look back to Sonic and show he means it, “He’s with friends.. or the closest things he has to them.”
“See— I like when you say he’s safe, but then you follow it up with stuff like that, and it worries me,” Sonic’s smile becomes a bit uneasy, rubbing his gloved hands together as a nervous tick.
Shadow groans a bit at this, his own hands resting on his stomach, the bandage still in place even though Shadow is fairly certain it’s no longer needed.
“It’s-… complicated,” Shadow tries, motioning a hand in the air above him before resting it on his head over his eyes, “But he’s being taken care of. The people who will find him will make sure he’s alright, and they most likely will figure out pretty quickly that he doesn’t belong with them.”
Sonic nods a bit at this, looking down at the ground in a pondering sort of way before lifting his eyes again to Shadow.
“What-… what is your life like..? Over there??”
Shadow huffs at that, a small, mirthful smirk growing on his lips as he grumbles, “Tragic.”
Sonic instantly frowns at this, brows knitting up as he scoots a bit closer to the edge of his seat, “What do you—“
“I don’t mean he’s gonna be miserable,” Shadow clarifies with an annoyed huff, “He’ll be fine. I have simply lived through quite a lot in my time..”
“My Shadow has too..,” Sonic points out quietly— not sure if it’s the same as this Shadow’s trauma, but it’s certainly nothing to scoff at or dismiss.
“Seems that’s my lot in every universe,” Shadow grumbles, lifting his hand from his eyes and looking at the ceiling again.
“You’re not very optimistic, huh??” Sonic says with a sideways smirk, tilting his head at the ebony hedgehog.
“I’m realistic,” Shadow clarifies with insult in his tone, “And realistically? I’m forced to bear the burden of many troubles and large responsibilities.. and be haunted by them for eternity.”
“Sheesh,” Sonic’s eyes roll with a chuckle, “Melodramatic much??”
Shadow turns his head to Sonic at this, glaring at him now in offense, “I am not melodramatic. You don’t know the shit I’ve been through—“
“Woah, woah- easy, Tiger..,” Sonic giggles out awkwardly, holding his hands up to try and chill Shadow out some, “Wasn’t trying to get you worked up… it’s just.. weird seeing you like this.”
Shadow’s brows furrow at that, “Like what??”
Sonic motions a hand to all of Shadow before shrugging and, “That. All grumpy and doom and gloom and just… angry.“
“I’m not angry,” Shadow growls, the only response he gets in return being Sonic quirking a brow at him in a silent ‘oh really??’
Shadow huffs. Looks back to the ceiling with his arms crossed a bit tighter over his chest, “I’m frustrated. It’s different.”
“Why are you frustrated??”
“Oh gee, let’s recap, shall we?? I have been thrown into a familiar yet unfamiliar environment, woke up to my personal space being invaded and feeling severe exhaustion all over. Then I find out I’m stuck in some damn universe where I’m apparently some sort of soft, pathetic excuse of the Ultimate Lifeform—“
“Hey! Shadow is not—“
“The fate of myself and multiple worlds is potentially now in the hands of a child. And instead of doing anything productive to help, I’m having to lay here and rest— which I can’t even do because a certain insolent, annoying hedgehog won’t leave me be.”
Shadow’s eyes find Sonic’s again, glaring with a grit in his teeth at the blue hedgehog—
But instead of finding his rival smirking back with an equal glare as he usually would.. he finds Sonic frowning.
Knitted brows and parted lips with the most upset expression Shadow thinks he’s ever put on Sonic’s face. It makes Shadow stumble a bit in his annoyance for this hedgehog, but he stands his ground. His arms stay crossed and his glare remains.
Sonic stares a moment, his ears flattened to his quills before he eventually looks away with a small frown.
Shadow doesn’t feel guilty. He doesn’t.
“Look..,” Sonic says quietly after a pause, “I’m-.. real sorry all this is happening.”
It’s not Sonic’s fault.
“I’ll just.. I’ll let you be. If you need anything, I’ll be around.”
Sonic stands then, Shadow watching him in silence. He doesn’t stop him. His voice feels like it’s suddenly caught in his throat. He wants to say something. Apologize for his childish behavior. Tell him he doesn’t blame him for this.
But he doesn’t.
Sonic exits the room and Shadow releases a long, heavy sigh as his hand lifts once again to rest over his closed eyes.
He doesn’t know why he’s being extra moody.. and even worse, he doesn’t know why Sonic isn’t bantering him like he typically would. It’s throwing off their whole.. whatever you would call it—rivalry??? Dynamic?? Either way, Shadow doesn’t like how it makes him feel..
He’s already feeling shitty as is. It’s his fault any of this is even happening, and all because he was reckless with Chaos Energy. He should’ve known better. He should’ve thought before he acted.
He’s making that mistake a lot lately, it seems..
He’s already been the cause of mass destruction more times than he’d like to admit.. he can’t handle being the cause of it again..
He has to fix this.
“…Fuck.”

I just wanna say, Gale gives so much Puss in Boots vibes. Like a really powerful renegade who recklessly wreaks havoc on evil (sorry I just wanted to use a bunch of Rs)
When the universe is restored (and the Chaos Emeralds brought back) what happens to him? How does he cope with losing (most?) of his powers? Does he join Sails as a regular pirate, and how does he end up feeling about Bermuda?
Also I love the shatterverse you came up with (Is it called Deepfreeze Domain, or is ther another name that encompasses all of it?), and Callisto especially! I'm assuming Callisto meets Prime!Sonic and Syzygy, Star and Aster meet Shadow? Just because I feel like Callisto would notice at least a little bit that Shadow looks like him, and he probably meets at least one of those guys. Although now that i think about it, Shadow might not immediately meet Syzygy, or maybe even meet him when Sonic shows up...
All of your shatterverse versions of Sonic and Shadow are So Cool!!! I really like how you changed some of the universe dynamics to fit them, especially with the extra worldbuilding for shadow's existence!
gale losing the emeralds causes him to fall ill. they'd been living inside his heart for his whole life, so their sudden absence sends his body into a shock of sorts... everything is different now. he's still got the wings, since they're a physical part of his body/mutation, but they're so much heavier than they once were. he has to relearn how to walk and how to fly. it's a big change for him. good thing he's stubborn!
he definitely spends more time around other people after the finale. kind of out of necessity. ofc, gale didn't WANT other people to see him in such a weakened state--but when the emeralds were returned to their rightful dimension, he was around other people. and he couldn't exactly flee afterwards, so...
gale isn't exactly HAPPY about being feverish and bedbound on the angel's voyage, since he's got a pretty nasty grudge against dread for his behavior, but he doesn't have a choice. at least sails is there to act as a peacemaker. and maybe during that time, gale would come to forgive him. after all, dread's changed. and changed for the better!
as for bermuda... that's a tougher egg to crack, for sure. originally, their relationship was "bitter enemies who want to kill each other". now though? might be more like intense rivals. gale might still threaten him though. and vice versa. what can i say? some things never change.
i do like to imagine a situation where after gale's recovered, bermuda finds him perched on some rocks somewhere and ofc gale is like immediately on the defensive but bermuda's like i'm not here for a fight. and bermuda offers him that same respirator he once gave to sonic because gale's been falling into the water more lately and "nothing is allowed to kill you but me"
gale snatches the respirator with a toothy grin and quips back "...can't have that, can we?" heh.
as for ur other questions, yeah i kinda just refer to my original shatterspace as deepfreeze domain collectively. i mean, they have the trophy, so they make the rules! lol. callisto and syzygy do interact with prime shadow and sonic. callisto even teams up with sonic for a wisp race at one point!

Sonic The Hedgehog Masterlist
Sonic The Hedgehog
Trapped - Sonic x GN Reader
"Hoohoohoooo! Try getting around that, you overgrown pineapple!" A small explosion erupted in the town square, shaking the small table and wobbling your burger. Looking back in fear you could make out a moustachioed man in the smoke, floating in some sort of device. His glare was aimed at a blue hedgehog, the smoke surrounded him; he appeared unharmed.
Part 2
Tails 'Miles' Prowler
Slow Dance With You - Tails x Female Reader
I set this in the Boom Universe in case it was unclear, hope you enjoy and like always requests are always open!
Shadow The Hedgehog
Training - Shadow x Female Reader
You'd been at GUN for a few weeks now. Your missions were going well, you'd made plenty of new friends and enemies and you've learned countless new moves from your new partners. Currently, those new partners are beating your ass at a basic training session, but that is why they are the professionals.
Mission report - Shadow x GN Reader
"Mission report" you simply replied, Shadow stepped out of well the shadows his arms crossed over his broadened chest "For last weeks mission? Shouldn't you have finished that by now?". You slumped in your chair a sigh escaping your lips, team dark watching you intensely "It's just taking longer than expected". Rouge glanced at your desk observing all the junk food wrappers and books "Longer than expected huh?" she questioned raising her eyebrow; you refused to answer.
Protector - Shadow x GN Reader
"You have to keep moving, unless you want to get caught?" His snide comment sent shivers down your spine. With a growl, you picked up the pace, with the ebony hedgehog following closely behind you. This had all been an exercise, the grand training mission of training missions.
The infection - Shadow x GN Reader
Just as you were snooping around the whole facility went dark, shutting off the computer with it. You growled, smashing a fist against the monitor "Damn you! Damn you to hell!" you cursed out. A wavering static flooded your hearing before a voice called out to you, "(Y/N), we're picking up some energy readings coming your way. Looks like you've been spotted, sweetheart." Rouge mused.
Warming up to you - Shadow x GN Reader
Okay, so I got a few responses saying to keep it as parts instead of one big thing, and surprise I've decided to turn this into a small, small series. So expect a few more chapters to come out soon. Hope you enjoy!
Part 2
Part 3
Gone - Shadow x Female Reader
Blood dribbled from your lips, you've probably swallowed a few teeth during this fight too. Your knuckles were grazed and bleeding, ankles sore and muscles aching. It wasn't meant to end like this and yet you knew deep down in your heart, that this was the only outcome.
Before you - Shadow x GN Reader
With what's going on in the world I just wanted to quickly write something to help make people feel less stressed out and scared, even if that feeling lasts for just a second. Sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes, I just wrote this very quickly.
Fitness Regime - Shadow x Female Reader
Reader who likes to flirt with him a lot?
Name Calling - Shadow x Female Reader
I've been eating up all the Shadow content lately and it all came together into this fic.
Shadow Generations - Shadow x GN Reader

A much needed summary of the Discord Whooves story.
Voiced by @voiceofthecity
Transcript below:
Doctor: Right, so. A lot has happened since I woke up in this universe, eh? I guess this is a sort of… diary entry.
I first opened my eyes in this universe without any memories. Derpy standing over me. She took care of me until I could remember who I was. I reunited with the TARDIS and took Derpy on as my companion. It became obvious quickly that she had… Deeper feelings for me. But I ignored it in favor of our friendship.
I fell in love with a bush because of a love potion she got hold of, thank goodness it wasn’t with her. At one point we ended up on a planet of machines where we fought an AI that wanted to experiment on us. He called himself NeoSurgeon, after copying me. Copying me made him very much alive, and I almost destroyed him before realizing this… We taught him to value life, and I installed him into my sonic screwdriver to let him explore the universe. [annoyed] And of course he goes and mucks things up by experimenting, resulting in Dinky and Sparkler being created from Derpy and possibly me.
Derpy and I had a few encounters with changelings, which led to us finding a changeling who copied me and thought he was me. Everyone just loves copying me, don’t they… When he found us he realized he wasn’t The Doctor, and asked us to save the corrupted hive. I let the queen feed on all my love of the universe, turning her and her hive back to their true selves. But I lost my love from it.
I was investigating disappearances of races and planets in the timeline. This led me to the Caves of Truth, where Discord dwelled. Showing me a terrible truth about myself that shattered my entire being. I still can’t bring myself to go into detail about it because I’m terrified. This truth made me want to give up adventures and helping others, and Derpy didn’t agree with me. I lashed out at her, and she lashed back by abandoning me.
That’s where many of you found me, after that point where I was alone and saying ‘to hell with the universe’. I dove headfirst into sex and drinking to fill the emptiness I felt. At some point, the questions I got began provoking my rage towards Derpy. I took it out on her by hurting her to teach the… audience, I suppose… a lesson to not bother me about her. I let her go after that. But anger got the best of me again from prying questions. Once more I took it out on Derpy, more violently this time before I ditched her.
Had an unpleasant encounter with Octavia where I crashed into her place. Even though I met Twilight Sparkle and bonded with her, like an idiot I tried to woo Octavia to much humiliation and failure. So I focused more on Twilight and I grew to really care about her. She was a light in the darkness for me.
Let’s see… Fooled around, yelled at Dinky and Sparkler, ran into poison joke which let’s not even talk about. After recovering from that I encountered… Patience, my ex wife, for the first time here, and I ran from her.
Oh. The wings. Didn’t always have those either, my regenerative hormones were acting up and caused them to appear. After sticking to myself for a while I decided it was time to learn how to fly, as it seemed like my wings had grown to fit my body. I learned how to fly from an alternate Rainbow Dash.
I was going to celebrate with Twilight, but when I found her she had cut herself deeply in a suicide attempt which had been prompted by The Master. She survived, thank the stars…
The Master had teamed up with Inkie Pie and further antagonized me, trying to goad me into fighting. But when I wouldn’t give, he beat me down and kicked me out. My hearts were getting louder and louder in my head. I tried to drown them out with more drinking and in my drunken state forced open the heart of the TARDIS. She possessed an hourglass to create a pony avatar for herself and cared for me like a nanny. I decided to call her Ananta.
It finally hit me that all of the sex felt pointless and I decided I’d give it up as it wasn’t doing me any favors. No matter how many times I tried, I could never find relief, not even with Twilight.
The Master wormed his way into the mind of a mare I had let get close, which was the final straw. I went after The Master with a gun but I missed the bastard. He was also with Octavia for some reason which threw off my aim.
Spending more quality time with Twilight in Ponyville was when it came to my attention that things were wrong in this timeline. I was informed of Sugarcube Corner’s bloody history as Slaughtercube Corner, where Pinkie went insane and murdered multiple ponies. I learned all of Twilight’s friends were corrupted, dead, or missing. I would have investigated more but Patience found me and demanded I leave.
I visited a corrupted Rarity’s universe to let of some steam and discovered that her universe was layered and bleeding into mine, causing events of her timeline to happen here. It seemed to be like that for multiple corrupted universes, taking aspects of them and applying them to Twilight’s friends.
After that, I tried to avoid getting involved because it was getting far too complex. I drunkenly opened a temporary dimensional rift which caused the one and only Jack Harkness to fall through. I was elated, finally someone good from the humanoid universe that I could spend time with!
We reconnected, and I wound up in the wrong dimension when trying to show off to him. There we found a bleeding filly, Scootaloo, who had tried to run away with her newborn. The baby needed a caretaker that could be trusted and I suggested Twilight, who was more than happy to take him in while things got sorted.
I think for a while I was more myself. I felt more clear headed. I even got it in my head that I should check in on Sparkler and Dinky. Foolish. Utterly asinine. Dinky was rightfully angry with me, and I couldn’t explain myself. Then… She showed up. Derpy. I went at her, but… I was suddenly pummeled with rocks and bricks by Dinky. Her magic was even powerful enough to throw me HARD. I think… I think she was just about ready to kill me before her mother stopped her. I promptly left after that, just hoping we’d never have another encounter. I hate… what she makes me do.
While letting Jack help me process things, the TARDIS had an intense interference that triggered the cloister bell. I fought something that was pulling her, and I was hit hard with the resurfacing memories of losing Amy and Rory horrifically and violently in the journey to this dimension. Distractions. Right. I gave myself distractions.
Landed in the dimension that was home to an obnoxious punster, got upset with Jack for wandering too far away. I was scared of losing him but in doing that I made him feel trapped, and we started having arguments. Jack wanted to go back home but he wanted to take me with him and that just… couldn’t happen.
To make up for the arguments, I took us to the Nimbus Resort and Casino. That’s where everything went wrong. That rift I opened before also let in a group of daleks which invaded and started slaughtering everyone there. I was scared, I tried to run, Jack tried to stop me and I pushed him right into a dalek’s laser, and I just left him there. I did go back for him, I did! We witnessed the Master decimating the daleks and I took Jack and ran from that too.
Jack was… different after that. He threatened me with a gun and demanded I take us back to the human dimension, but when he was distracted I pulled out my own gun and shot him. I threw him out while shooting him again and I suppose it’s after that when the Master recruited him to Torchwood. Tch… since then he’s been having me tracked.
Fell off the deep end, binge drinking and neglecting my hygiene, doing nothing. Ananta cleaned me up, got rid of the alcohol, made sure I got the right supportive questions and comments to keep me going. [more serious] I tried to study what was going on with me, which revealed another entity inside of me calling himself Hyde, a corruption of myself.
Less important stuff happened, came to the conclusion that the askers were essentially my companions. Which was nice enough to convince me to investigate further into the altered timeline. Equestria was at war with the Diamond Dogs, and Twilight was expected to help as a princess but couldn’t because of what happened to her friends. Ponyville was in ruins while Twilight clung to it for her few remaining friends.
I realized then… The Twilight I became close to wasn’t meant to exist. She was part of the altered timeline, and if I fixed it, she’d be gone. And we’d never have that connection again, because her giving up the throne was what let us have something in common…
I was searching for the trigger for the timeline corruption, so I traveled into the past to observe Pinkie. Octavia found me, she was interested in me after I had… insulted her I think? Strange woman. Pinkie kidnapped us both to torture us, showing she was already corrupted. We were rescued by the guard before she could do any real harm but she had drugged me out of my mind and in my disoriented state I took Octavia with me onto the TARDIS.
Octavia demanded compensation for all the trouble I’d caused her, so I tried to take her somewhere nice but ended up landing in the future city of Vannice. A future wrecked by Discord, where only 10% of the pony population remained and all the Princesses were long dead, Twilight included… I tried to ditch Octavia but she ended up shmoozing with a rich scientist who was luring her into his experiments. Meanwhile I was trying to sneak around because his drones were after me.
NeoSurgeon made himself known again, and was useful in finding and stopping the secret alicorn magic-tech versions of cybermen. My worst self convinced a worker to sacrifice himself to do it, using Neo to super charge him… then bloody Jack shows up with one of his lackeys so of course I had to grab Octavia and run again.
She still wasn’t satisfied. She seduced me with kinky sex, had me take her on thrill after thrill. She stole something from an important historical figure. Kept pushing me for more and more until I snapped and lashed out at her. But she actually got EXCITED by that, and it snapped me out of it enough to have the sense to force her out of the TARDIS and out of my life.
More investigations, bringing me to the mirror pool. Revealed the real pinkie and a clone swapped places so it was a clone that went on a murder spree. Poor Twilight, I had to tell her, and then ask her if she wanted to remain in this timeline or return to the old timeline without her memories.
As I was leaving Twilight to think about it, Patience- Or Minuette, found me and insisted on joining me to keep me from causing trouble, and to help me. She was fittingly patient with me but never let me step out of line.
Twilight decided she wanted the timeline fixed, but not until she could help me. She and Minuette worked together to cure me of the curse using a memory spell, and I finally felt like myself for a long time. There was still some of the curse remaining inside me, but I could finally function more like myself.
In recovery, I tried a few times to write letters to those I had hurt, but it was difficult for me to write anything. I might try again, honestly. What have I got to lose besides paper?
Anyways… Minuette and I went to NeoSurgeon’s planet so that they could combine their memories of me, which seemed to help fight the curse further. I wasn’t fully cured yet, so I continued to focus on recovery before investigating again.
Minuette and I went back to when the Mirror Pool was first formed to see when Discord influenced it but this… was a mistake, as it lead Discord right to the pool to infect it. Must have wormed into my head too, because once I learned Minuette had been seeing the Master romantically, I succumbed to the curse in a full blown relapse and… And murdered… her… Do I really deserve to be saved any more…?
I couldn’t cope. I broke Ananta’s hourglass. I was ready to kill myself. But that’s when The Master burst in and beat me down, tore off my wings, and threw them out with the hourglass. Then he took me onto his TARDIS where I was kept in his Zero room for a long time before he and his TARDIS finally made contact with me.
I think… it was going pretty well for a time… Until he revealed he had influenced many things in my life, from Minuette, to Jack, to Discord, to Derpy, the changelings, and who knows what else. I attacked him and that left me on my TARDIS with Di, his TARDIS’ avatar, to look after me. Meanwhile the Master was going to try to figure out how to solve all of this.
Twilight was in danger and I made a deal with Di that I wouldn’t ask for any more favors after going to help Twilight. And then there was… The Valeyard, likely a metacrisis from my wings and Octavia which means he’s just as, if not more insane than she was. He killed her but showed that he at least seems to care what happens to Twilight, because he let me take her away to safety.
Now I’m just here, waiting, doing what I can to pass the time and hoping that everything will be okay. It’s hard putting everything in someone else’s hands, but at the same time… it’s what I want most right now, I think. I just… want to be left alone while someone else takes care of things for once. Am I scared? Completely. But I need to accept that I’ve done all I can do at this point. Anyway. I guess I’d best get to writing those letters… Maybe I’ll have better luck this time. I don’t know if this journal log really helped much, but it was something to do so… Yeah.

what’s your favourite version of shadow? like characterization-wise
i think my favorite instances of shadow characterization all come from various spin-off materials or games. they all have slightly different takes on the character that serve as an interesting insight into shadow, but i think these are my favorites:
Sonic X (season 3): i mean like. yeah no kidding. Sonic X feels like a very definitive and classic version of shadow, as it's very close to his characterization in Sonic Adventure 2. i really like season 3 because it raises the question of “what makes a hero?” shadow doesn’t consider himself a hero, and for good reason - he understands that he does some pretty heinous stuff for the greater good of the universe (namely trying to kill cosmo). and yet despite not being a hero, he still does heroic things. introducing the character of molly was one of the show's greatest ideas because it shows that some people DO consider shadow to be a hero, and his black and white viewpoint on the topic isn’t the only way to see things - plus, the comparisons between the two characters are a smart way to add some depth to shadow and lead to some absolutely heartbreaking moments. i dunno, Sonic X just has a really strong version of him and it’s fun to dissect his actions and beliefs. and also it makes me cry
Archie Sonic (post-issue 160): archie shadow pre-160 is one of the worst things in the world. but after that he’s pretty good! while archie shadow differs from his mainline counterparts, it’s in a very interesting way - archie shadow is surprisingly soft and a bit less subtle than most other versions of him, and this may be due to the fact that he never really went through the events of Sonic Heroes or Shadow the Hedgehog 2005. hell, he only went through like. half of the events of Sonic Adventure 2. while i don’t consider this version of him to be “definitively” shadow, he’s just so much fun. this take on him allows for some really great character work between team dark and a number of other characters. there’s a reason the treasure team tango arc is one of my favorite sonic stories ever - shadow goes through a very clear character arc in just four issues, and it’s really interesting to see how he gets there.
Sonic Battle: this one’s a bit of a wild card. i’ve never seen anyone talk about Sonic Battle on here, so for context it’s a 2D fighting game for the GBA that features a robot named emerl, an ancient battle android whose abilities grow when he comes in contact with the chaos emeralds. not only that, but emerl only gains character traits and his personality after interacting with the various sonic cast members. he’s a strange mix of sonic, tails, amy, knuckles, cream, rouge, and most importantly, shadow. this game’s version of shadow is really interesting - in terms of timeline it’s certainly debatable on where Sonic Battle fits into any sort of “canonical” timeline (i could make a whole different post explaining why). regardless, shadow has all of his memories back, but he’s EXTREMELY tormented through this entire game because Sonic Battle focuses directly on shadow’s feelings about being a living weapon. and it’s honestly amazing.
shadow spends most of the game trying to destroy emerl because the android is another weapon created to destroy the world, and there’s a number of good moments between the two of them and the other sonic cast members. i don’t really want to give much more away because the end of Sonic Battle is one of the most impactful endings i’ve seen in any sonic game - emerl’s last line in this game makes me cry every single time. if you’re interested, i’d suggest watching a longplay to see the cutscenes or reading the script online because i NEED more people to experience this game. it’s not perfect - the story is told entirely through video game dialogue and limited visuals so it’s a little clunky, but there’s so much good to be found in the character interactions. i love this game
#refraining from writing a thesis on each of these different versions of shadow#i miss when he had depth lolzor#sonic loreposting#oh also the art for sonic battle is amazing. WHY DON'T PEOPLE TALK ABOUT THIS GAME#fernasks

Behind the Scene
You might be wondering, how the ideas, the concepts were born within me
The first thing to notice is that, Emily's artstyle and Hilda's artstyle bears a heavy resemblance. The ideas, the lore and the characters ALSO do feel like they are some sort of Hilda's alternate universe
That is right. Tales of Helidia, Emily, Corrian... virtually everything came from Hilda the Series itself, written by Luke Pearson
But, exactly how? Let me rewind back in August 2022. Before that, i had already known about Hilda the Series existence, but like i was just like "Cute show, moving on" and just forgot about it
Fast foward until 2022, i noticed some fanarts of Cream the Rabbit dressing up as Hilda, and it got me really intrigued. I mean, this was when my interest towards TV animated shows peaked. Gravity Falls, SVTFOE, The Owl House, Avatar... either i discovered them, or started watching them again. And so, i started watching Hilda for the first time (with some methods i will not tell lol) And i was truly captivated. Truly, the lore, the worldbuilding, the characters, they are all amazing. It is by no mean perfect, but to me, this is the best TV show so far, and i loved it so hard, i started drawing again. Yep, my artworks are also thanks to Hilda
However, it got even further than that. Once i joined its fanbase, i met many people, wonderful people, talented people. It was small, but it was the place i belonged. But one individual stood out from the rest: @pikablob, or @wildflowers-of-trolberg if you refer her by her Hilda blog. Her fanfiction gave me lots and lots of ideas for something. It gave me the inspiration, the motivation. There was so many ideas i had, none of which would fit in Hilda lore and worldbuilding, however. And so, my eyes headed to Sonic the Hedgehog
At first glance, i gave Cream a new name Emily, and some stuffs of lore, cause i do want her to get more screentime. And then i came to realization that: Yeah this ain't Sonic the Hedgehog anymore. Too many unnecessary retcons, too many changes, too many characters acting not like themselves, so on and so forth
But in that deadlock, came a brilliant idea: Just. Make it your own story. And for the first time, i detached every relationship my fanfic has with Sonic, it has become an original story, with an original world, original characters. And it was the best decision i made. I have the designs needed for my characters, i am no longer stuck with the stupid retcons and such. This story is mine, and i have the rights to do anything with it
And here we are today
Thank you Luke Pearson, for the core of everything. Thank you TP, you were my greatest support, and my inspiration for some great ideas. It would not have been possible without any of you
(Oh dear, i forgot to introduce you the green fairy above Alfur, my bad. That's basically Emily's version of Alfur, Emerald... except i think Emily is more of an Alfur than her XD)

Castlevania has a bunch of games each zig zagging between different time periods across a 1000 year old timeline.
It still has a much clearer timeline and sense of canon than Sonic, despite its own issues, which is extra embarassing given that most Sonic games take place in release order yet we seemingly can't decide on whether or not Mania Sonic is a split timeline or the same guy as Modern Sonic, because last time I checked Forces claimed the former (and made sense) while Izuka is now claiming the latter.
The latest Tailstube also had Knuckles reference Knuckles Chaotix despite that game having been made non canon by Heroes as stated by Izuka himself.
And Frontiers speaks for itself, too much in fact
Are you referring to the fact that apparently now Superstars takes place between Mania and Adventure? I read people that pointed out that their behavior in Superstars doesn't match the one in Adventure: Sonic and Knuckles weren't besties yet, Sonic was still uncomfortable around Amy. This poor game keeps being ignored despite being so important to the lore :(
(also rip sonic 4 good riddance)
I don't know what's happening anymore. I'm not following anything. I haven't felt the interest to watch the latest Tailstube. I only know that they're trying so hard to cobble together all the pieces of the lore, from Fang now changing name in-universe to escape the law (and being officially Fang the Hunter, after nearly 30 years), to referencing Chaotix and Mighty and Ray, to slapping in your face that Amy KNOWS TAROTS!!!!!! LOOK AT MAGICAL GIRL AMY ATTACKING WITH TAROT CARDS!!!!!!!!!!! something that by all means should have stayed cute trivia in the manuals, or maybe referenced in things like the Origins CD cutscene.
And Frontiers :)
shut up sage eggman did not help sonic take down neo metal he was just standing there if you're going to shove references up our asses at least be accurate
I remember when back in the day the biggest source of confusion was whether Battle happened before or after ShTH...
They're absolutely going on an overcorrection course, when things were just fine! And yes, I'm aware that IGA did a similar thing for CV, sitting down and putting as many games as he could in order while cutting from canon the ones that didn't fit like Legends or the N64 games (although I still believe there was room for CoTM lol). He tried to answer all sorts of questions from "why does Bloodlines not star a Belmont?" to "why do candles release hearts when hit"?, and I don't envy his job. I know some old-time fans weren't exactly happy with this guy pulling a Flynn and getting his hands all over the franchise :P
The resulting timeline can't really be understood without a guide, but I can't say it was confusing at all. It helps that there is no time travel involved. That's the thing that started to make the Sonic timeline fall apart: Classic Sonic travelling into the future of Forces and then going back home.
(then you add that apparently in Japanese Classic Sonic comes from a different sekai, which is a vaguer term than "world" or "dimension".)
I should probably have more to say, but... I don't know when was the last time I checked something Sonic-related with interest. I still have to listen to the Superstars OST... I'm definitely feeling more and more alienated by this new direction.

PAL-075 Chris Corsano and Bill Orcutt LP
“Play at Duke”
Play at Duke by Chris Corsano & Bill Orcutt
BUY LP
Few sounds in music are as instantly recognizable as the searching sting of guitarist Bill Orcutt and the cyclical propulsion of drummer Chris Corsano. At the same time, every single performance or recording I’ve heard by the duo has been markedly different, discovering new paths with a given set of tools. For more than a decade now they’ve been meeting up to instigate visceral sonic journeys without a map, engaging in elliptical dialogues with one another, but more often conjuring twinned excursions that occur with a kind of telepathic independence. They don’t need to plan or discuss what will happen when they get together. They simply jump in and see where things go, pushing and pulling when necessary, yet more often letting each other roam freely with the knowledge that they’ve a rapport that can weather all storms.
The performance captured on Play at Duke was taped at the von der Heyden Studio Theater in the Rubenstein Arts Center on the campus of Duke University. The set closed out a three-day festival celebrating the 21st anniversary of Three Lobed Records, and the music they made feels utterly galvanic, a fitting conclusion by turns triumphant and bloodied. The set clocks in at just under 26 minutes but there’s nothing lacking, nothing slight. The best performances fuck with time, as this sublime encounter does. The duo were in an obvious flow straight out the gate, with Orcutt unleashing fat, fragmented arpeggios that morph from anthemic chords to flickering long tones—tense moments of repose that anticipate some new digression a la Hendrix. In the first of the three “Play at Duke” the duo packs in so many discrete ideas and dialogues that it’s hard to believe they only needed eight minutes to get it done.
Orcutt and Corsano sets are thrilling, in part, because we don’t know what will happen. Will they gel, butt heads, or get cranky. The guitarist sometimes delves into his Harry Pussy roots and unleashes a post-hardcore sally to shake things up, whether it seems necessary or not, but with this particular set there’s no doubt that the pair is sync. Ideas, motifs, needling lines (shadowed, of course, by Orcutt’s wordless falsetto screamed out into the air) pile up with pure compositional logic, each new melodic theme or textural divot flowing out of the previous one with remarkable ease and fluidity. Both musicians can access all sorts of traditions at the blink of an eye. The second piece opens explosively, with Corsano delivering a singular kind of flailing energy that’s nevertheless completely liquid, while Orcutt jerks between post-no wave skree, ominously prescient chords that channel the aggression of AC/DC and Hound Dog Taylor, and upper register stabs that that both tap into some primordial wellspring of the blues and fling clusters of sound at gravity, seeking to be free of our planet’s limitations. The album’s final piece begins with repose, a breath-catching reset of contemplative tenderness that gradually opens up, the duo teetering at the edge of an explosion that never really arises, as a lyric quality manages to ride the cresting wave of energy, cutting back- and-forth into a sudden, crystal-clear denouement that feels like destiny.

I believe that IF Silver IS a descendent of Sonic/Shadow/Amy/anyone else, he's a descendent via adoption because the only Sonic character that I accept having kids is Vanilla.
honestly part of the reason im not a fan of the ideas of silver being a descendant of other characters we already know is because i just dont see why its necessary for them to be related ..? idk i just dont think anything that could be gained from him being shadows kid or sonics descendant or whatever is worth losing part of whats already compelling about silver and also making things super confusing. plus none of the pairings of already existing characters people have suggested as silvers bio parents make any sense, usually because its impossible from a timeline perspective but also because theyre always picking characters who would NOT have kids either in general or with the specific people theyre being paired with
#i also just kinda have a hard time imagining most sonic characters who arent already parents (so. most of them) wanting to be parents#it just does not feel right to me#i guess part of it could be an age thing . being a parent is an Adult thing and most sonic characters are not adults#so imagining them doings things that only adults do by in universe standards just feels strange and foreign to me#even though these scenarios would obviously take place a couple decades into the future#but also even when specifically thinking about it through the lens of ''would this character want to be a parent when theyre older''#the answer is usually no or idk#because there are a lot of characters where it just doesnt feel like it fits them?#sonic and rouge are a couple characters i can name off the top of my head who i know for sure would not have kids.#shadow im not so sure about either. yet he is the most common choice for silvers bio parent. pain#thing about shadow and silver is i think a timeline where shadow is actually around to meet little silver and is like#a mentor/older brother/guardian figure of sorts does kinda have potential to be interesting but i dont really want that to be made canon#but shadow straight up being his dad? idk man. not really into that. shadow being his biological dad? ABSOLUTELY not into that .#people having the present version of shadow whos a teenager barely older than silver being a dad to him?? weird as hell. no#asks#also part of what bugs me about the shadow as silvers dad stuff is people pretending its anything more than a baseless headcanon#like im not saying all headcanons have to have proof behind them but people act like the shadow as silvers dad thing#is an actual plausible theory that could be true and has tons of evidence? when it really doesnt ??#i feel the need to specify that im not trying to police what people do or aynthing just sharing my opinions

ok so i adore your cute and fluffy tailsmo stuff, but now i wanna see some tragedy, well less so tragedy and more so really sad, my idea is that it's been like three years since cosmo died and tails planted the seed of her that remained, and the plant has barely grown, and the rest of the cast has to tell him that he has to accept the fact she might never come back, and the biggest bit of heartbreak is sonic trying to explain it to him and tails yelling at him that he had told tails he had saved her after the fight with the metarex and that he had promised tails that she would come back, and he can't accept the fact that she might never come back, ending with him crying over her planter box, with those tears causing it to sprout a little
i like heartbreaking stuff sometimes
fortunately angst is my specialty
Three years. Three years of grieving. Three Years of Hope. Three Years of gardening. Three years since Cosmo had sacrificed herself for the Universe.
Three years since Sonic gave Tails a singular seed, which had barely split open at this point. The young Fox monitored it in his lab almost constantly.
Maybe Seedrian plants just take longer to grow. Tails thought to himself poking the glass. He didn't dare try to touch it, lest he give it some infection and lose the last remaining shred of her forever.
Everyone came by to visit him when the group wasn't on missions. Missions were the only time he really left. That he saw the sun. He didn't want the seed to magically bloom and not be there for it if he could. Amy had tried to drag him out for dinner. Cream had tried to convince him to make flower crowns with her. Knuckles had tried to drag him out kicking and screaming until Tails nearly knocked his head on one of his computers, which could've given him a concussion.
Now it was Sonic's turn. Everyone stood just barely out the doorway
"Hey, Bud, we need to have a chat." Tails blinked away from the glass, rubbing his eyes. "Can we go outside, you need some fresh air and sunshine." "I have the world's best filtration system in here, and the synthetic lights offer a better amount of Vitamin D than the sun's rays! I made sure of it."
"Tails, it's time to let it go." Sonic wasn't good at dancing around the subject. Nor was he good at feelings. So he just said what he felt needed to be said.
"Let it go?" Tails looked confused.
"Let what go?" "The seed! Cosmo! It's been three years, you need to move on with life, dude."
"Get out."
"Eh?" "GET OUT!" Tails threw a waded-up paper at Sonic. "YOU SAID SHE MIGHT COME BACK! AND NOW YOU'RE SAYING SHE ISN'T!?" Tails were screaming and hitting Sonic, though pretty weakly. "GET OUT! I HATE YOU! LEAVE ME ALONE!" Tails roughly pushed Sonic out of the door, locking it behind the hedgehog.
Everyone could hear the young fox throwing things, and destroying things. There was anguished screaming. The sound of metal falling on the ground. Wood breaking, and glass shattering.
Then a collective wince broke over the group as they heard ceramic crashing onto the ground and silence.
Knuckles managed to punch the door down. It looked like a tornado had come through the lab. Glass, and broken wires everywhere. Rouge had decided to take Cream and Cheese home.
All anyone could see was Tails's tiny figure barely lit up sobbing over a shattered pot. Sobs shaking his body, but it seemed like he had lost his voice during all his screaming because not a single sound exited him. He had exhausted himself till he was in a state of fitful sleep.
Knuckles quietly began cleaning as Sonic moved Tails to his bed. Amy managed to find the only unbroken container and quickly potted the seed inside.
Amy decorate Tails's home with all sorts of flowers while he recovered from his depression. He would never realize that the prettiest sprout that lived on his bedside table was from the seed he had anguished over.

Late Night IDW Team Dark Ramblings
You know, I've been thinking about how Team Dark could be better portrayed/utilized in IDW and I've come to realize that a big issue with their portrayal/usage is that they don't really have any antagonists of their own.
Like they're supposedly not super buddy buddy with Sonic and co but the only times they show up are to help them with whatever Eggman thing is going on at the moment (or that one bit with Clutch, which factors into my solution). As a result they just kinda feel like Sonic's butt buddies or in the case of Shadow, that one annoying guy who pops in to tell you you're bad at your job.
I know it's partially a result of not having a Universe equivalent where they can fuck off and do their own thing, but at the same time, as of now there's nobody for Team Dark to really bounce off of antagonist wise, and specifically for Shadow, there's nobody for him to really go all out on and let him actually be cool against.
And I was thinking about how to fix this for a while, until it hit me that the solution, or at least the start of it, was right in front of my face: Rough, Tumble, and Clutch should be antagonists not only for Team Chaotix, but Team Dark as well.
Those three provide the sort of shadier, "darker" antagonists that fit characters like Rouge and Shadow specifically (the former is evidenced by her and Clutch's delightful interactions in Chao Races). Now you may be asking "But Nutty, those three are interesting, but they can't take Shadow in a fight, no way no HOW, and having Shadow beat them up just feels like a consolation prize for him" and to that I'd say that yeah, you're correct about that, which leads into the second part of my proposal
Use Clutch and Rough/Tumble as a launching pad. I'm showing my biases towards certain kinds of characters here, but I think it'd be cool to have those characters be a jumping off point to have more outright criminals/org crime villains. Villains that are meant to be a bit seedier, a bit more "underground" and whom Shadow's pragmatic attitudes and raw power, as well as Rouge's finesse, can be properly applied against. It could also provide an opportunity for Team Chaotix and Team Dark interactions, which as far as I can remember, we haven't really had outside of like, Heroes (and that one Archie issue early in Ian's run where the Chaotix interrogated her but that barely counts).
Now you may also be thinking: "Well wouldn't that just bloat up the cast?", and to that I say the wonder of these kinds of villains is that they're inherently disposable. It'd be quite easy to say, throw out some criminal of the week for them to deal with and when they're dealt with, they're gone if you want em to be gone. Now granted, in an ideal world this would be slotted into a Universe style book where the more episodic stuff would fit (and frankly it's the only place I thinnk it could reasonably fit since having arcs without Sonic in them is pretty much verboten), but it's still interesting to think about nevertheless
Also you could totally pull from Jojo Part 5 and make a funky hitman squad with crazy powers and a close bond and have them be reoccuring villains if you really wanted.
But yeah these are just some thoughts I wanted to get out there. Lemme know what you think
#IDW Sonic#I know IDW Shadow has PLENTY more issues but I think giving him some schmucks to beat up on and actually exercise his attitudes would help#Also give Rouge villains PLEASE#Also Omega#Hell you could have a bunch of people building bootleg E series or some shit#There is SO much you could do#At least give us a non-Eggman villain other than the Deliquent Duo and KNIFE SQUID

I watched sonic prime
I'm not really sure how I feel about it
Rambling disjointed thoughts below
Like it's well animated and there are some good concepts in there but something just feels... off.
I think it's mostly in the way the characters are handled? Like it just sort of feels like they made sonic into a jerkass to justify the plot, hinging on him learning to be a better friend when like, friendship is already his thing??? Like yes, he can be impulsive and cocky, and a series where he has to cope with the consequences of a reckless decision is interesting, but I don't like it when shows warp characters to fit a moral, instead of building the moral around the characters.
And like even when he is out here trying to be a good friend, circumstances outside of his control make it hard and then everybody gets mad at him for that no matter what he does, and it starts as early as the first episode. It feels like one of those anxiety dreams I have where no matter what I do or how justified I am, the universe tells me I'm wrong.
That said, I do enjoy the relationships between sonic and the new yoke city characters, sonic and nine are really sweet and I know that boy is peobably teetering toward a villain arc but I wanna see good things happen for him. All versions of tails are so valid. And like, on paper, I sort of like that each main character of a shatterverse sort of reflects sonic's own flaws back at him, but I wish they didn't dial up the jerkassery and mistrust to make it happen.
The action is also really good, so fucking well animated and choreographed, but like I do feel like it drags on a bit, and between that and the flashbacks, it feels like they just were trying to pad the episodes. It would've worked better as 11-15 minute episodes, I think.
I also like the idea of a bad future where Eggman won and sonic doesn't exist! It's a neat concept, and I kind of which we stuck with that, rather than going between there and all these other AUs, it kind of drags out the pacing of what should be our main story. All the AUs, even this apparent main one, feel a bit gimmicky, but at least that one is the most interesting, at least to me who likes dystopian settings. Then again, it is a fun kids show, so I know I shouldn't be expecting anything too deep lol
I know it sounds like I really disliked this show, but I am invested in the characters and concepts they're presenting and hope that some of my complaints about these first 8 episodes get addressed to some degree. If not, it's going to be a really frustrating watch

An analysis of film and tv show adaptations of video games because I can or something
Alright, so I've seen a lot of people say stuff like "oh, the Mario movie is better than the Sonic movies because the Mario movies use the video games' soundtracks more!" and it honestly kinda bothers me, and not just because I'm more a fan of Sonic than Mario. A massive chunk of "this is so fucking annoying can people please stop" for me is the Mario movie -- and honestly most video game movies -- went for a completely different vibe from the Sonic movies.
I've only seen a few video game film/TV show adaptations in my 19 years on this planet, those being The Angry Birds Movie, both Sonic movies, Sonic Boom, Sonic Prime, Sonic X, and Detective Pikachu. As a result, I will mainly be discussing those.
For the sake of this post, I'm gonna be splitting video game adaptations into two very basic categories:
A movie/TV show that aims to stick as closely to the video game universe is possible
A movie/TV show that aims to make its own universe, usually done in live-action but not always
The second category is much, much more common. I'll also go ahead and expand on what I specifically mean with those two categories.
Category 1: Adaptations that stick to the video game canon directly
So this specifically means movies and TV shows where it's either implied, explicitly stated, or mentioned via Word of God that an adaptation is meant to take place in the same universe as the game(s) the adaptation is based on. Examples of this include The Angry Birds Movie (which feels sort of like a prequel to the Angry Birds mobile games), Sonic Boom (which is tied to a spinoff game for the main Sonic games, so Sonic Boom is in a weird place between both categories honestly), Sonic Prime (which has been directly mentioned by people working on it to take place in the video games' continuity), and Detective Pikachu (although to be completely fair all Pokemon media takes place in the same universe as far as I'm aware).
Category 2: Adaptations that are loosely based on video game canon, and build their own canon instead
This basically means a movie takes characters and certain aspects of the video games' lore and puts it into its canon, but is overall its own universe. The most notable example of this one is the Sonic movies, which takes the characters and certain aspects of the video games, such as the Master Emerald, Chaos Emeralds, and the different zones, and makes them its own; the Master Emerald was initially created from the merging of the Chaos Emeralds and each zone is a different planet in the galaxy, which doesn't just make the movies' universe feel bigger than the games', but also makes it feel unique and like its own thing.
From what I've seen of the trailers/clips/heard about the Mario movie, it fits into the first category.
It's important to note that the categories will absolutely affect the goal of the movie/TV show. In most cases, media that fits into the first category is more likely to use music from the source material, while media that fits the second category is more likely to use its own music. Most media in the first category will be animated, while (usually) media in the second category won't. It's two different categories with two different goals.
The fact that people don't acknowledge that is super bizarre to me. Media based on a game is going to be different depending on the goal of the people making it, which makes it incredibly unfair to claim a movie from one category is objectively/inherently better than something from the other.
So next time you go to compare the Mario movie and the Sonic movies just remember that they're two completely different movies with completely different goals.
#movies#tv shows#idk how else to tag this lmfao#the super mario bros movie#sonic the hedgehog#sonic movies#sonic cinematic universe#this can be applied to basically anything btw#adaptations from comics. adaptations from books. adaptations from movie to tv show.#it can be applied to basically anything

IDW Sonic is a mean parody of a Steven Universe parody made by someone who only heard of the show through Lily Orchard and those stupid memes like him wanting to play the ukelele to Hitler.
"but he forgave the Diamonds ;A;" no, him leaving the Diamonds alive (which is different, and it's kind of chilling that you compare "forgiveness" with "allowing someone to live") is the equivalent of Sonic neutralizing Perfect Chaos with his Super form instead of sealing him again like Tikal wanted to do. It was the most pragmatic course of action! We don't know if Diamonds can even be shattered and how, bubbling them would just postpone the problem (hello, Rose with Bismuth), and allowing them to reform brought positive changes to Homeworld, which didn't have to deal with a massive power vacuum. Hell, Yellow Diamond took upon herself to fix the Cluster, her biggest war crime!
IDW Sonic's principle of freedom is stupid. He does stupid things, like letting Metal go because he feels that "the odds are in his favor". He's also a hypocritical asshat, for all the reasons we have said, such as rubbing in Surge's face that "even the doctors deserve freedom", only for him to react to her apparent death with "and this is the problem with giving people freedom" and to Starline's real death with a meme, as if to say that yeah no nvm he deserved to die.
Also. Also. SU the show actually shows the consequences of Steven's actions much better than IDW does. The biggest example is when in the middle of Season 1B, Steven breaks from the CGs to chat with Peridot, in a naive attempt to befriend her.
youtube
Consequence 1: Peridot nearly kills Steven, to show how callous she actually is. The CGs are forced to protect him, and alert Peridot of their very existence.
Consequence 2: in the season finale, Peridot invades Beach City with Jasper and Lapis out of concern. This kickstarts all sorts of events: Lapis and Jasper fusing, Connie wanting to learn how to fight, Peridot being stranded on Earth...
Consequence 3: much, much later, in Season 4, Yellow Diamond pulls out the list that Peridot gave her (which is the list of Beach City residents Steven inadvertedly blabbers about) so that Aquamarine can kidnap them and bring them to Blue Diamond's Zoo before the Cluster destroys the Earth. This event breaks Steven who, in a massive fit of self-sacrifice, declares himself to be Rose Quartz to protect the people he cares about. He's brought into space with Lars, effectively kickstarting the entirety of Season 5 which leads to the massive Rose Quartz reveal. Oh, and further exploration of Steven's martyr complex which Connie really, really doesn't appreciate.
As a comparison. What did the Metal Virus arc, the biggest failure of IDW Sonic's "freedom principle", lead to? What did it mean for his character development?
Exactly.
Sonic feels way more like Steven universe fursona on idw, than well Sonic
A steven universe fursona made by someone who didn't watch steven universe
Can you imagine IDW Sonic reacting to the diamonds the way steven does in the movie?
#fans don't look#steven universe#sorry for going off#it's just that. i resent how su has been reduced to “the show with the crying kid who forgives hitler”#and it explores the themes of pacifism and principles better than idw can ever hope to do#all while being a kids show! wow! it's almost like being targeted to kids doesn't mean that the writing has to be stupid!#Youtube
