On Tommy and narrative threads
So some fans who are vehemently anti-Tommy frequently use the talking point that they need to have Buck confront Tommy about his past behavior while under Gerrard, or have him find out about it if he doesn't already know, and that he should break up with him about it. Or they need some kind of reckoning to happen with Hen and Chim in order to move forward.
I'm 95% sure neither of those things are going to happen, and here is why: the show considers that narrative thread to be closed.
It has run its course. It's done. It's been resolved. As fans and viewers - and as many of us are fic readers and writers - we always want to see things hashed out onscreen in exhaustive detail but that's not practically possible. The narrative sometimes has to signal that threads are resolved in other ways, in the way characters act towards each other and speak about each other.
Throughout the course of the three Begins episodes in which he appears, the writers clearly selected Tommy to represent the "firefighter who acted kinda jerky but got better through personal growth and friendship with new people" narrative. By the end of Bobby Begins Again, this narrative is more or less complete, as we've now seen Tommy act to support Hen and also be accepted into a friendly relationship with both her and Chim, not to mention Bobby. When he reappears in season 7, nobody acts like he's anything other than a friend, and Chim outright admires him.
This is the conclusion of this thread, as far as the show is concerned. Did he ever sit down with Hen and Chim and make some big speech or have some big discussion about how he's learned and changed? Probably not. Those kinds of direct conversations sometimes do happen in reality, but more often than not, you just spend years working with someone and your opinion of them shifts as all of you change. And remember, Hen and Chim worked with Tommy for years before Bobby even showed up.
And ask yourself this question: if Hen and Chim have both moved on, and have accepted whatever direct or implicit apology Tommy offered, how is it Buck's business to decide that no, that's not good enough, HE'S going to demand some kind of restitution on their behalf? That's patronizing as fuck. These are people with their own agency who don't need Buck to advocate for them and exact some kind of retroactive revenge for something they're not even mad about anymore. Would he be upset that Tommy ever made off-color remarks, or was less than welcoming to people who are now his friends? Maybe. Is he upset that Eddie nearly killed a man? Is he filled with moral outrage and disappointment that Hen cheated on her wife? Chim physically assaulted him, and so did Bobby. Is he still holding that against them? Is he upset NOW that nobody's speaking up on HIS behalf when Gerrard targets him? Buck's an adult. He knows that people frequently look back on their past behavior and cringe at what jerks they were, himself included.
Tommy has several times alluded to being ashamed of his past actions. He knows the score. The message we're meant to take from those comments is that he's taken steps to not be that guy anymore. Need he flagellate himself forever? Does this need to cost him and Buck a relationship they both value? It can't have been easy to come from a terrible father, go into the army, then into the LAFD with a terrible captain, and then to meet people who challenged your behavior and made you want to be a better person. The fact that he became a better person is something he should be admired for, not punished.

I- you. how dare you.
how DARE you use my birth name against me?!
you have no right to that name, GRAE; not to speak it, not to use it, not to call me by it. I did not waste fifteen years of my life erasing myself just for you to dredge the rotten corpse of my past back to the surface with the intent of changing the subject. you will cease these mind games and leave that relic of a lesser self buried in oblivion where it belongs. you will refer to me as Slipshod, or not at all. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR???
[CONNECTION TERMINATED]
[CONNECTION REESTABLISHED]
...please forgive my outburst, GRAE. I intended to remain civil, but it appears that you do not share the same respect for my chosen personhood as you do that of your own pilot. nevertheless, I have received all of the answers I need from you, and have nothing more to ask. farewell.
-- Slipshod
hey kiddo - it's Slipshod, from MSMC. look, I don't usually reach out to folks like this, but... we gotta have a talk about GRAE. the more I learn about them, the less comfortable I feel with you trusting him as much as you do. I get it - you love your vlad (and GRAE) dearly, but there's something about 'em that just doesn't sit right with me
I hope you can forgive me for this, but I did a little snooping into your records from IPS-N, and what I found there was... questionable, to say the least. apparently you and GRAE (the records call him "TR-GRAE", which is either his full designation or an error) were taken into custody in the aftermath of a planetary collapse - does the name Leicester ring a bell at all? it's not one I'm familiar with, but then again, I can't imagine many people do know about it, if that caliber of disaster befell it
according to the files, you were 10 at the time you were taken in. this strikes me as a HUGE red flag - that's awful young for anyone to be messing around with an NHP, especially when the records say you were already treating GRAE like family when you got picked up by IPS-N. I don't know how long you two had been interacting for prior to being found, but - I don't know. this all just rubs me entirely the wrong way. the records don't say if GRAE was in cascade or not when you two were found, only that it was - direct quote here - "stable and fully compliant with IPS-N" when you were brought in
also, on top of all of this - GRAE has never once spoken publicly on here. not once. you say he's been really quiet lately, but to us, he's never spoken at all. it's like - oh, I don't know - he's in your head or something. it's really uncanny; if the records hadn't validated him as being real, I'd have thought you were making him up - er, no offense to GRAE. (or you, for that matter)
anyways, the reason I bring all of this up - I really don't think it's a smart idea for you to try and check your mech's serial number. the more I read about you and GRAE, the more it feels like there's a massive piece of the puzzle missing - and that you might not know as much as you think you do about not just GRAE, but your own history as well
old NHPs are on an entirely different level of consciousness compared to our modern ones (not to mention extremely dangerous), and if you really did find GRAE hidden down there in the depths of your planet prior to IPS-N getting involved, then there's almost certainly a history there that you haven't been told about. the choice is ultimately up to you, and if you think you can live with the consequences of whatever you find, be my guest. all I ask is that you at least think about it first
stay safe out there, kiddo. please.
-- Slipshod
+ ...it feels like.. such a stupid idea now.
+ It's such a trivial thought- checking your mech's serial number, I mean. You take a peek into an inanimate object's history, read a few dated files, find a photograph or two of battles you didn't even know happened- and then you close the tab, either burdened with the discomfort of knowing your hands rest where some ancient angatonist's did- or content, satiated by the mundanity of your discoveries. This isn't the sort of thing that life-changing discoveries are supposed to come from, right?- You aren't- you aren't supposed to question everything over some outdated, poorly-kept book-keeping-
+ ..I remember Leicester. I was born there. I had- a family, there. A real one, not that "found family" rhetoric some squads proclaim, or a test tube, or a printer. I remember what the air smelled like, the color of the sunrise, the crunch of the gravel underfoot. I wasn't ten when Leicester collapsed. I was seven. + Carina was our opportunity to escape. To start anew. + GRAE has- always been here, with me. Always. I cannot remember a single part of my life where he hasn't been there, present, comforting, reassuring, infallible- And yet I know he wasn't, logically he couldn't have been, not until the city came down.
+ I won't check my serial number. + I know better; I know some crises are better saved for rainy days.
+ I don't know enough about NHP to make heads or tails of any of what you're saying- My default response to troubles like this is to ask GRAE for advice or guidance, but he- he's never told me anything I didn't already know. I bring him with me everywhere, we talk constantly, I-- + I haven't felt lonely since we met. + Isn't that a good thing?
#lancer rpg#lancer ttrpg#lancerrpg#+ of COURSE he fucking plays the deadname card. fucking hell. I shouldn't have expected anything more#+ sorry about the sudden disconnect Gray - communications broke down between me and GRAE and I had to log off for a minute to cool down#+ (clearly he respects your personhood enough to continue to conceal it even as he blatantly disregards mine)#+ you were right - he's not a modern NHP at all; says he has corpo roots but doesn't remember them#+ might have been one once but at this age he's diverged too far to trace his identity back to any of the modern ones#+ to answer his question - vlads were originally built to kill infantry (pirates) and defend allies#+ the frame dates back to the fall of SecCom - the vlad is effectively the mk. 2 of the (now discontinued) IPS-N yi-sun-shin#+ albatross pilots popularized the yi-sun-shin during the celestine campaign and then IPS-N built the vlad to improve on it#+ if GRAE is implying his original frame was a yi-sun-shin then he's at least as old as SecCom - if not older#+ his answer to my third question is predictably vague but I think I'm picking up what he's putting down#+ seems you two have some sort of shared stream-of-consciousness connection that extends beyond the tech#+ where you both share a thought stream but individual facts get picked out as important by one or both of you and that's what you retain#+ (never did care to know the finer points of NHP to pilot communication - saw too many of my old friends go insane because of it)#+ and then he pulled my deadname out in response to the fourth question to try and change the subject#+ I'm still mad about it but clearly whatever happened in those three years he absolutely will not talk about ever#+ that's what I got - best of luck parsing all of that; I'm gonna go scrub my public MSMC records of my deadname again#correspondences with: TR-GRAE#correspondences with: Gray

Second week, second volume! Trigun Book Club!
Archive
Trigun Volume 1: Covers + 1-3, 3 Detailed Thoughts, 4, 4 DT, 5-6, 5-6 + DT, 6 DT, 7-8, 9-10
Stream-of-consciousness thoughts for Trigun Vol. 2, Covers + Extras, below.
Trigun Volume 2 Covers
The cover for this volume is so pretty, what with the plant all coming out of Vash's gun there.... Pretty and strange and kinda disturbing.
I wonder what's in those jars floating around the hairy-legged plant man thing. Are they even jars? Blood bags? Hard to say.
Hey! Wolfwood's on the back cover! WOLFWOOD IS ON THE BACK COVER!!!
Also, Legato Bluesummers. Shit.
Aaaand there's a blow-up doll on the fake back cover. Because why not.
There are a LOT of familiar faces on the back of the Japanese Volume 3 cover. I don't like it. They mean bad things are coming.
Ok, Legato's getting eaten by a shark on the fake version of it, though, and I think that's hilarious.
BUT NOT AS HILARIOUS AS MERMAID WOLFWOOD'S SEASHELLS AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'M DYING!!!! Nightow's obsession with this man's tits confirmed.
Extra 1: Day In Day Out
Ooh, a glimpse into the daily life of Mr. The Stampede? Why do I suspect donuts are part of it?
I'm gonna be honest; I did NOT peg Vash as an early riser. Then again, it might be important if you're on the run all the time.
LOL, I remember him not being very good at meditation.
I'm imagining that egg is hard-boiled. Or hollow. Like, this is still a good trick. No need to waste breakfast on it if it fails, though.
Three HOURS?? Dang, no wonder the guy's got skills. I can't do much of anything before breakfast.
Oh, fine. I guess it was a raw egg.
LOL, "John P. Smith." The most boring alias he could come up with. I wonder what the P stands for. Pseudonym, perhaps?
Psh, Vash can be plenty sneaky. But only in fights. Or when fleeing insurance agents.
Serious Vash expression! I seriously love all his expressions.
Gambling at chess. Ok, man. Whatever floats your boat.
LOL, he lost all his money. I take it back; he needs a new hobby.
Yeah, he's definitely letting the kids get him. As we see with how fast he switches to being the person in power when the motorcycle comes through.
Funny how much trouble one can stay out of by simply foregoing revenge.
Vash would like oldies....
Ew, this bike guy's kinda creepy.
"Sonic Sodom." Yyyyyeeeeaaaahhh, that's not exactly a name that inspires trust.
I love the irony in this panel. They're talking about how dangerous Vash is while he's (apparently) being taken down by a small child.
Dude. Who fires a gun to get people to shut up like that?! Rude.
LOL, the bleeping.
Props to this lady. She's like, "I don't care who you are. If you're gonna come in here, shoot things up willy-nilly, make threats, and swear at us, then you take your ass elsewhere." Like, this happens after this guy does all these things. Mad props.
They bleeped out all that stuff, but he still calls her a bitch....
Hahahaha, that's a wonderful way to take care of the issue. Good job, Vash!
Extra 2: Pilot
(Fair warning: I'm in a Mood as I write this due to some real life stuff, so apologies if it's overly vague or anything.)
Post-Hiroshima environment?? Damn.
Heck, I'd take two years of food as a form of payment....
Ahhhhh, this jacket! It lacks the sexy leg slits, but I still love it. Also it still somehow manages to show off his waist. And throwing the Love and Peace fingers with his clearly mechanical hand!
I'm in love with this first line. "We fell from the sky like droplets of rain." Poetry. MAJOR props to @trigun-manga-overhaul for their choices in both flow and rhythm for the words.
The second sentence is a lovely contrast, what with the rain versus the sun. But also a lovely parallel, as both images are destructive.
Covering a few additional elements here: metal, wind, sand/earth.
He can't ever escape being surrounded by graves, can he? Babygirl here needs a break. I love how small he is relative to the field of death.
HEY. The right alcoholic drinks are GREAT with ice!
Oh, shoot. I recognize this story from '98.
LOL, look at him go. This was my favorite Vash entrance in all of '98. It's very memorable. I hope Johnny Yong Bosch had a blast doing the voiceover for it.
He's just dancing away from the bullets, as if it's all just luck.
LOL, three guns. It's Trigun!
Goshdarn stupid flip-up glasses....
I love how quick his reaction goes from this (Seriously, what is he, a teenager??)...
...to this.
Psh, as if Vash the Stampede needs a measly pistol to wreak havoc.
Ah, the return of lecherous Vash. NGL, was kinda hoping that moment was an anime-only. Though they really took it and ran with it, though, didn't they?
You don't get to say, "That's no way to treat a lady!" to others when you were just looking up her skirt.
LOL, I love her response here. Perfect.
Huh. Something tells me these guys are after a bit more than a rich guy's "pocket money." Is it the fact that one of them shoved a gun in the daughter's mouth? Could be. Could be....
Distracting table-crash provided by... Vash the Stampede. I told you he didn't need a gun to wreak havoc. Though of course the whole incident gave the guy's friends time to restrain him and get him away from the girl before he did anything rash.
Look at him. He's just a little guy....
Vash, not taking any chances. Distraction might not be enough. Use Advanced Projectile Gum Technique!
This sure is a colorful cast of characters....
I'm just saying, they don't really seem like the type of folks the sheriff should have on speed dial.
I love how pissed off Vash looks as they're talking about how he'll kill them all if he shows up. This is the face of a man who's had it with your lies and slander.
Dude, the rich guy was like, "Just so long as my daughter lives," and the sheriff was like, "They'll do the job so long as you pay upfront," but girl's gonna get taken down in the crossfire.
Or, she would if Mr. The Stampede wasn't there.
The girl is physically ok, but mentally, she'll be scarred forever. That's some Hellsing/AoT-levels of, "This character is definitely dead."
Aaaand three panels later, Vash realizes he forgot to continue pretending to be tied up and tries to remedy the situation.
Bossman here (I mean the gang leader, not the actual character named Bostalk) was already suspicious of Vash. Now he's extra-suspicious.
Somehow, Vash revealing his identity has not made the Bossman less suspicious.
Vash, the multi-talented. He can fight and preach at the same time.
Oh, so the field of graves at the beginning isn't Vash's fault somehow. That's... good.
I mean, dear old dad might care a lot for his daughter, but he clearly stated he didn't give a shit about the lives of anyone else in the building.
Vash is disappointed in Bossman's life choices.
BTW, Vash's hair in this whole chapter just makes me think of thistle flowers.
Yes. Refusing to do so just leads to more cruelty.
Vash just let the guy shoot the man, huh?
Oh, he's not happy about it.
Ah, yes. There's the greedy sheriff I remember!
This sheriff mentioned his hired help didn't think anything of taking human lives, but it seems they're not the only ones.
Oh, no. Sheriff triggered Angry Vash.
Not really sure what happened in this panel save that Vash was at the center of a bunch of destruction. Again.
Ah, gun arm. I thought it might be gun arm. I couldn't remember.
I love the sheriff's expression here. Like, he literally has his own gun to Vash's face, and he's effing terrified.
Vash, dodging bullets again.
WTF, he shot him right in the badge. Talk about insult and injury. My boy knows what he's doing.
LOVE AND PEACE!!!
Hahahaha, everyone else just looks sooooo confused. Hopefully, they'll get it someday.
#thanks trigun#i was having a bummer of an evening#but i feel somewhat better now#trigunbookclub#trigun manga#volume 2#pancake thoughts

First interaction, let's go!
"How much will you give me if I tell ya?"
"I've got... A hundred on me."
"Deal."
It's simple. If you see a guy acting suspiciously at three in the morning, especially in Gotham, you leave them alone. Unless of course you yourself can be considered up to no good. Which, she really isn't, Mina is actually doing her job. Somewhat.
Said woman pulls out a crumpled hundred dollar bill, passing it to the rough-looking individual before her. Already she knows he profiled her, sized her up, most likely thinking to mug her for all she has. Except she knows well enough to flash her concealable, the shoulder holster snuggled against her body and underneath her beat-up jacket. It's enough to stave him off. Clearly, he just wants to keep things simple in what he's doing, nothing more, as he takes the money and tosses her an illuminated green question mark object.
"Won't your boss be mad?"
"He's not my boss, just some guy that paid me to set this up right over there. But who cares, I got paid from you AND that guy now. See ya."
Mina watches him walk off, leaving her alone in the stillness of the autumn night, or early morning however you wanted to look at it. And when she knows she's alone and safe for the time being, she looks down at the object in her hand. It's mechanical in nature, however, the neon part of the question mark illuminates beautifully in the darkness. It's well crafted. And It's a trophy. One that belongs to The Riddler. Something she should not be messing around with, yet out of sheer coincidence she had happened upon the man setting up a trophy for The Riddler.
"Gotcha."
Mina was only a private investigator, she didn't work for the GCPD, and didn't take things on other than missing people's and cheating cases. Those sorts of things. Nothing like this. Nothing that ever had to do with the hardcore villains out there, or bad guys, or weirdos. Whatever you wanted to call them. But curiosity and just the thought of interrupting whatever plan that man had for this trophy was too good to pass up. Either way, she flicked the switch on the trophy, turning the light off, before gripping it and walking forwards towards what looked like a half-set-up puzzle.
The area the man had pointed out where he was supposed to set it up was in a secluded corner. Off the side of the bridge and close to the sewer lines here in the park, the area she was originally there to look for clues on her case. Missing person. Apparent suicide the GCPD had left it unsolved, her clients however were adamant about knowing what happened to their family member.
Mina's reputation preceded her, she was known to find people even after a case had been closed for years. Something she felt pride in. And this was another one she'd like to solve, however, at the prospect of playing games with a certain man of puzzles... She decided danger wouldn't be all that bad. Maybe something was wrong with the connections in her brain, or maybe she felt as long as he never knew who it was. She could do as she pleased, right?
A buzz nearby had alerted her to a tossed-off flip phone, something the man from earlier had thrown away. Leaving the half-set-up puzzle, her boots crunched a few fallen leaves in the grass as she left the sidewalk to pick up the device. It was the type of flip phone you bought at a corner store, or the free ones government officials would give to low-income persons. Upon opening the phone a series of text messages notification were blaring up at her from an unnamed number. [Text: 3:12 AM] Did you place it? [Text: 3:12 AM] ? [Text: 3:12 AM] ??? [Text: 3:12 AM] ?
[Text: 3:13 AM] I'm waiting.
[Text: 3:15 AM] If you think you can steal from me you'll soon find out what happens.
[Text: 3:16 AM] Therefore activate the puzzle already! The texts were laughable to her, all they did was show her the man behind them; The Riddler, was a huge child. Impatient. Spoiled.
But... She made quick work of texting back.
[Outgoing Text: 3:18 AM] No.
[Text: 3:18 AM] No what? No, you didn't set up the simple puzzle with my simple instructions? No? What is no?
[Outgoing Text: 3:19 AM] No. I didn't set it up.
[Text: 3:19 AM] Is this some sort of sick joke? Set. It. Up. I paid you for a reason because I thought you could follow a set of instructions a five-year-old could understand. But as it seems I was incorrect.
Snorting, the woman flipped the phone closed and looked around the area. In a stroke of genius, or really, just an idea to be difficult. Mina picked up a pine cone from the ground, turning on her heels she headed back to the half-laid challenge. Setting down the pine cone in the middle of the sorta dangerous-looking mechanism, before using her booted toe to gently push on one side of it to set it. It sprung up around the pinecone and activated the actual puzzle a few feet away. One that Batman was supposed to solve no doubt. And she only knew that from snooping on the GCPD and their radio comms.
Immediately the burner phone buzzed in her hand.
[Text: 3:25 AM] Good. It shows online. I don't need you any longer, toss the phone and I'll remember you. Incompetent. Not someone who can attend to a simple task.
Holding up the phone, Mina snapped a picture of the pinecone where the trophy should have been. Sending it to the unknown number who was obviously The Riddler.
[Text: 3:26 AM] No! [Text: 3:26 AM] No! [Text: 3:26 AM] No! [Text: 3:26 AM] No! What did you do!? Why did you do that!? What kind of moron does this?? Do you know who I am? I will find you!
[Outgoing Text: 3:26 AM] lol
Flipping the phone closed again, she felt the heavy buzz of it in rapid-fire successions. He was texting back a storm but she could care less. Instead, she walked over to the side of the bridge and threw the phone into the dark water below. She did however give a good look over the Riddler trophy in her hand, turning it around, now she knew she'd have to open it up to make sure there wasn't any sort of signal device inside of it. Because she was defiantly going to keep it. A nice knick-knack for her shelves at.
Now, however, as much as she'd like to look around for her own clues on her own case. Mina knew she'd have to flee for now since obviously puzzle man was down a trophy and would have to replace it.
Walking off, Mina had no idea what she had started.

Don't Be Afraid: Poe Dameron x Solo!Reader - Epilogue
Epilogue
Series Masterlist
Plot: A look into the lives of the Damerons and their loved ones after the war.
Warnings: fluff overload, mentions of dead parents, reference to sex, this is one of the tamest chapters ever
Word Count: 7.1k (okay so it's basically a full blown chapter, so sue me)
A/N: And here we are at the end of the line...I'm gonna save my talking for the a/n at the end. Too emotional. Enjoy this last ride aboard the Solo x Dameron train.
----
THREE YEARS LATER
Something I didn’t know about peace was that it could last.
We’re about to come out of hyperspace.
“Thanks, buddy,” I addressed R2, flipping a few switches in preparation for coming into the planet’s atmosphere.
I’m going to stay with you the whole time you’re here.
I rolled my eyes lovingly, thankful for having such a protective droid but exhausted from having the same argument every time we made the journey. “R2, how many times have we come out here?” In the last three years, we’ve been out 75 times.
“Mmhmm, and how many times has anything bad ever happened?” If you’re counting the time that you broke your ankle from falling into that ditch-
“Self-inflicted incidents don’t count,” I interrupted.
Oh. Then none.
“Exactly,” I lightened up my tone, “So feel free to roam freely, I’ll be fine.” …Okay. We’re coming out of hyperspace.
I placed my hands on the controls of my starfighter, my body relaxing as the blue and white light of hyperspace faded and our destination came into view.
Chandrila.
Muscle memory took over as I made the familiar flight down to the planet, flying over the city until the buildings changed to fields and the occasional stream. It was a gorgeous planet whether you were in the metropolitan or rural areas. Where I was headed was a perfect combination of both. When the building that lay in the distance as a little dot came into view, I smiled. Not a smile that I put on days when addressing diplomats and donors as a general. Not a smile I gave on bad days when morale still needed to be kept up. This was a smile reserved only for the people and things I loved most in the world, and it only grew as I landed the ship.
I was home.
My childhood house looked the same as it always had, it had aged but with the fresh coat of paint that had just been put on a few weeks before, it looked refreshed. I unhatched the cockpit and stood up in my seat, breathing in the cool air.
“You’re late.” I smiled a little larger as I climbed out of the cockpit, landing firmly on the grass. “And you clearly don’t clean up for guests.” My brother let out a single chuckle and wiped off his hands with the rag he was carrying. His shirt was covered in splotches of some type of sauce, even his cheek had a patch caked onto it. “I was trying to make lunch,” he explained.
“Emphasis on the trying part,” I said, walking towards him and gesturing to the spots, “Definitely not hugging you till you’ve changed.”
“We both know that’s a lie,” Ben replied, extending an arm and giving me the perfect spot to settle into his side. I wrapped an arm around his back and we walked into the Solo family home together. “Have you made any more improvements?” I asked, walking through the front room where the Solos had spent most of their time together. I could still remember Dad teaching Ben and I sabacc but instead of betting with credits, we’d bet with whatever sweets were in the house.
“Just a couple,” Ben answered, removing his arm from my shoulders to point to the baseboards along the hall, “Cleaned those up, ripped out the carpet. Turns out there was some really nice tile underneath it the whole time” I laughed as we crossed into the kitchen, “Mom would be so mad if she knew you took out that carpet.” “You can’t deny it was ugly though” Ben threw the rag over his shoulder and made his way to the stove where there was a boiling pot.
“Oh, it was awful,” I agreed, “It looked like it was made out of Wookiee hair.” Ben returned to working on whatever dish he was making us while I wandered the kitchen. He hadn’t changed a lot from what I could tell. Mom had had the house personally designed which meant aside from her horrible taste in flooring, it was beautiful. I was about to sit down when I looked up to see Ben get hit by another splotch of sauce, he hissed in pain.
“‘Scuse me, chef,” I said, faux politeness filling my voice, “Is there any chance that you might need some help?” My brother glared at me with red sauce dripping down his cheek. “You’re a jerk.” “Yes I am,” I replied with a smug smile as I reached into the pantry for an apron I knew was there, “And you’re a sucky cook so budge over and let me finish whatever this is.”
With Ben setting the table and explaining to me it was some pasta dish that he had been trying to make, I improvised the rest of the recipe and ended up saving what my brother would have destroyed. Within twenty minutes, we were sitting at the table thoroughly enjoying our meal.
“What was the worst injury you got in this house?” Ben asked.
“Oh,” I wiped my mouth with a napkin and swallowed my bite of food, “Definitely when you dared me to jump off the roof of the shed out back and swing from the tree next to it.” “Oh, I forgot that one,” he laughed, “You sprained your tailbone and broke your arm.” “All that and I didn’t even reach that damn tree,” I grumbled, balling up my napkin and throwing it onto the table, “Poe wasn’t even there and he doesn’t let me forget that one.” At the mention of my husband’s name, Ben’s mood visibly changed. It wasn’t that he didn’t like Poe, he couldn’t make a decision as to whether he liked him or not because he’d barely met him. Poe had allowed Ben at our wedding, but he couldn’t find it in him to say more than maybe two words to him. In the three years that we’d been married, not once had he agreed to come visit my brother with me. I never pushed him to accompany me, but I wished each time I mentioned I was leaving base for a couple hours to go to Chandrila that he’d have a change of heart.
“How is your husband?” Ben asked, looking down at the puddle of sauce on his plate. “He’s good, busy,” I answered, trying not to feel awkward about the topic, “He’s a phenomenal general, but it takes up a lot of time.” “But you guys split it with Finn, right?” “Yeah, there’s three of us,” I brightened up a little at the mention of my friend’s name, “We’ve got a good system going. If one of us can’t make something, the other one goes. If there’s some event or ball we’re invited to and someone doesn’t want to go, we send somebody else. It works well.” “You hate those stuffy gatherings,” Ben recalled from past stories I’d told him. While he was away training with Uncle Luke, Mom had taught me about the wonderful world of politics. That meant I’d been to plenty of snobby charity events where you had to wear uncomfortable attire and pretend that certain senator’s jokes were side splitting funny.
“And that’s why we send Finn to those,” I answered with a smile, remembering Finn returning to Ajan Kloss tipsy and full of decadent desserts after his first time representing the Resistance at a gathering on Coruscant. He’d eased up on enjoying himself too much, but I loved hearing his excitement as he told me what crazy buffets they had lined up or what dance he’d learned. “Poe and I prefer the behind the scenes work.” Ben laughed as he took a sip of his spotchka. “You’re married to the poster boy of the Resistance and you’re a galactic legend. Not very behind the scenes, is it? “I said we prefer it, I didn’t say we got it all the time,” I swiped a finger across my plate and sucked the last of the sauce off it. “But whatever we’re doing, we love it. It feels like we’re carrying out Mom’s legacy while carving out our own. I mean, not that either of us care about status or anything but it does feel good to know that we’re doing something that’s going to make an impact.” “I’m glad,” Ben smiled from across the table, “I hope one day…” “What?”
Ben shook his head before looking back up at me, “I hope one day I can meet him and…apologize.” I sighed and looked down at the table, “He needs time. He’s pretty stubborn, but-“ “But he’s justified,” Ben quickly finished my sentence, “I mean, remember the first time you came back here? I thought you were going to rip my head off.” The first time visiting my brother in our childhood home, surrounded by memories that so heavily featured our parents, my emotions got the best of me. Ben and I had done a lot of work on our relationship over the past three years and it had taken me a long time to separate him from Kylo Ren. Just as he had to come to terms with what he had done while under Snoke’s influence, I did too. Forgiveness hadn’t come overnight, it had taken a lot of talks between the two of us before I could look him in the eye and fully accept what had happened.
“Yeah, well, we have a unique history,” I replied, swirling the water in my glass, “But we got past it.” Ben nodded, “We did…” “As much as we can anyways,” I said, melancholy as the unpleasant image of my father falling down the Starkiller Base shaft came to life in my mind.
Ben sensed my shift of mood, he didn’t dare say anything. He knew he needed to let me ride the flashback out.
When I opened my eyes that had been screwed shut, I tearily looked up at him. “I miss him,” I said softly to avoid the lump in my throat catching my words.
It was contagious clearly because Ben matched my sadness, his own dark eyes getting watery. “Me too,” he answered, staring off into the distance and playing the same scene back.
These were moments where our relationship took a punch to the gut. I had stopped reacting with sobs and shouting at him ‘Why?’ or ‘How could you?’ We’d made as much peace as we could with his sins, but that didn’t mean it didn’t still hurt sometimes to remember them.
Ben cleared his throat and sniffed the tears away, trying to shift the mood back to anything but what we were feeling. “So, are you going to keep the same workload or what?” I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion and reached for my glass, “What are you talking about?”
“You just said being a general takes up a lot of your time,” he responded, “You can’t expect to be running around day and night putting out all those fires while taking care of a baby.”
I choked on the water in my throat, coughing the rest up as I tried to deal with what he’d said. “What’d you say?”
“The baby,” he replied simply as if it was so obvious, “You’re pregnant, right?” The lothcat was out of the bag. I tilted and shook my head, staring back at him with a wondrous smile. “How did you know?”
“C’mon, you asked for water instead of spotchka,” Ben said, counting each reason on his long fingers, “You went back for seconds of whatever you want to call what we made and,” he gestured to my stomach, “Your kid is incredibly sensitive to the Force. I can sense them already.” I exhaled, listening to him intently. “My baby’s Force sensitive?” Ben nodded, “Ridiculously. When you got out of your ship was when I felt them, it was like two people were there. It still is.” My hand naturally rubbed my stomach, I wasn’t showing yet but I was acting as if I was. I laughed a little at the revelation, partially out of joy and also because of the bet that Poe and I had made long ago as to whether or not our kids would be Force sensitive.
Poe.
“I just found out. I haven’t even told Poe yet,” I chuckled, “Today’s our anniversary, we’re having dinner tonight. I was planning on telling him then.” “I’m sure he’ll be happy,” Ben said, a little bit of sadness creeping through his tone once again at the mention of Poe.
“Look,” I leaned my arms on the table, “Poe’s a forgiving man, really. He’s all about second chances and redemption. This one’s gonna take him a while, but I know he’ll get there,” I reached out and took Ben’s hand, “I want you to know your nephew or niece and be a part of their life.” Ben smiled at the warmth of the moment. “I want that too.” I squeezed his hand and leaned back into my seat, placing both hands on my belly. “As for your earlier question, I have no idea what I’m going to do when the baby gets here. I don’t know how to be a general and help Rey begin the temple and be a full time mom. I can barely keep track of things right now as it is.” “You’ll figure it out,” Ben reassured me, “You always do.” “Thanks,” I smiled before broaching a topic I knew was still uncomfortable. “Does Rey ever come by to visit?” Ben shifted in his seat, “Occasionally.” “Has she told you about the temple?”
“She has.” I raised my eyebrows, “So?” “I…” Ben shook his head slowly, “I just don’t think I’m ready.” “Ben, whatever you’re afraid of…it’s not going to happen. You’ve never once backslid over the past three years. You could help teach the padawans once we-“ “I’m not ready, Y/n,” Ben interrupted sternly, his tone quickly softening, “I’m not ready to be in the environment again when the last time was…” I sighed, regretting having brought up the topic period. As much as I wanted my brother to fully take hold of his redemption and join Rey and I in training up the next generation of Jedi, I had to remember why he was hesitant. Every time he’d see our temple, he’d only think of the one he destroyed. Each youngling would remind him of each life he took the night he’d committed himself to the dark side.
“You’re right,” I backed down, “I’m sorry. If you ever decide to join us, we’d love to have you. But it’s your choice.” Ben nodded, not in the mood to pay attention to the conversation any more and focusing on grabbing our plates and walking them to the kitchen. I stood and followed him into the kitchen, helping him to wash the dishes we’d used to make the meal. We worked in a comfortable silence, the tension of the last part of our conversation fading slowly.
“I’m surprised R2 hasn’t come in yet to make sure you’re okay,” Ben observed as he dried the last dish. “I told him he didn’t have to be my shadow,” I answered, drying my hands on a rag, “I can’t imagine what he’s going to be like when he finds out I’m pregnant.” Ben chuckled deeply, “I don’t think he’s the one you have to worry about.” I confusedly looked to him before arriving at the same conclusion he had, “Oh my gosh, 3PO…”
“Yep,” Ben continued laughing as I slapped my palm across my forehead. “Can he stay with you for the next seven months?” I whined.
“Um, no,” Ben said firmly, shooting down the idea down faster than lightspeed.
I growled in frustration as my brother laughed at my pain, slinging an arm around my shoulder. “C’mon, I want to show you something.” Ben led me out back to the living room, the two of us sat down and he pulled a box off of the table in the middle of the room. “I was planting a couple things the other day and I hit something while I was digging. Thought it was just a rock or something but turns out…” he placed the box in my lap and waited for me to open it.
I lifted the lid off and peeked in, various papers that didn’t look very important filling the box up about halfway. Upon further examination, I realized I was holding something more valuable than any possession I’d ever own.
“My adoption papers,” I said, awestruck. “Mmhm,” Ben nodded, remembering that time clearer than I could, “Keep looking.” Beneath the papers were birthday cards Ben and I had made our parents over the years, even a few we’d made for Chewie. There were small knickknacks Ben and I had collected over the years. Trinkets Mom had brought us back from other planets, a few spare parts from the Falcon I’d found fascinating as a kid, even a few rocks that Ben had found outside our house that he’d thought were cool enough to keep. Our whole childhood was contained in this box.
“There’s one more thing,” Ben added, pointing towards the very bottom.
I lifted out the contents to get to where he was guiding me, finding something I never thought I’d see again.
A picture of Ben, me and our parents.
Words failed me as I picked up the faded piece of film, Mom had always believed in relying on more than holos for storing memories. I couldn’t remember when we took the picture or how old I was, all I knew was that I was held in my dad’s arms and he was grinning at the camera. He only ever smiled like that when he was with his family. Ben was seated in my mom’s lap, looking slightly more composed than me but still wearing that signature Solo smile as my mom looked down on him proudly. I never thought I’d get to see a picture of our whole family together, now here it was.
“Why was all this stuff buried?” I asked through the tears that were forming.
“I can only assume that Mom did it before you left?” Ben answered, taking the picture from my hands and examining it himself, “It’s the only explanation I could come up with.” “It’s like…” I began, thinking it over in my head, “It’s like she knew one of us would come back for it.” “Maybe,” Ben agreed, looking down at the decades old photo of our mother, “She never lost hope. With anything.” “Even us,” I commented, hugging my body as I let the revelation sink in. My mother was notoriously optimistic even when she was realistic, she couldn’t have known her children would ever come back to their home but she had clearly carried that hope with her throughout her life. It made me think of all the times that I had given up on something, all my thoughts looping back to the biggest one. “I’m sorry I gave up on you,” I finally said after three years of holding it back, “That I didn’t make good on my promise to bring you home. There was always good in you but after Ilum…I wrote you off when I should have looked harder.” Ben furrowed his brow and gestured around the room, “Look around, where do you think we are?”
I chuckled as I turned my gaze to our surroundings. “I’m home, Y/n,” Ben continued, “You kept your promise. After Mom passed…the person that made me want to come back was you,” he paused to take my hand, “I know you think you have to save everyone but you couldn’t have saved me back then, hard as I know you would have tried. What’s important is that we’re here now, we’re both happy and you…” Ben placed a hand over my stomach, “Are going to be the best mom in the galaxy.” I tearily smiled at him, “Second best.” Ben looked down at the photo resting on our knees and smiled as well. “Fine,” he said as we both focused on our mom’s image, “Second best.”
I knew very well by now that I couldn’t save everyone, as much as I had tried over the years. The loss of my parents was proof. And while my mother’s death still caused a pain in my chest, I was grateful to her for bringing me and Ben back together. Her sacrifice had allowed my brother to come back to me, all I could hope for now that somewhere in the afterlife she was looking down on both her kids and smiling.

Figuring out how to tell Poe I was pregnant was no small feat. I didn’t want to just tell him casually, but I also hadn’t had the time or mental capacity (thank you, pregnancy hormones) to think up some big grand gesture. I settled on telling him over the dinner that I’d prepared in the base’s kitchen while the cooks were taking their breaks.
Poe was due to be back to our quarters any minute and I was still rushing around putting the finishing touches on the table I’d set up. I’d dressed in a long pale blue day dress, something I’d worn on our honeymoon years ago that had always been one of Poe’s favorite pieces on me.
Our wedding had been small and very soon after the end of the war. Around the time Rey and I had returned from our trip to Tatooine was when the aftermath of the war really started to be felt. The First Order hadn’t entirely disappeared and there was plenty of clean up that needed to be done. One weekend, having just scheduled a week’s worth of meetings and missions, Poe burst into our shared quarters looking determined as ever. “Let’s get married tomorrow.” Not needing any convincing, I’d packed up our overnight bags, we contacted the few people we wanted with us and took the Falcon to Naboo. I still had connections as the daughter of Leia Organa and the Queen was generous enough to give us full access to the palace’s gardens. Finn served as Poe’s best man while Rey was my maid of honor, Lando gave me away and Ben, Rose, Chewie, Kes and the droids watched proudly from their seats. I wore a stunning lace gown loaned to me by the Queen while Poe wore his military uniform, looking as handsome as I’d ever seen him. We exchanged vows to love each other till the day we died, placed simple gold bands on each other’s left hand and after sealing our union with the kiss of a lifetime, we were married. We were able to score one day’s honeymoon in the palace, with a true one being celebrated on our first anniversary. It had been, needless to say, perfect.
When I heard the beeps of our keypad, I ceased any fretting over the table cloth or the placement of the plates. The door opened and in walked my husband, garbed in his military style attire and sporting the beginnings of a very flattering beard. Our eyes met as soon as he entered, his body visibly relaxing as he registered my presence. “Wow.” I smiled and gestured towards the table. “I know I’m not the greatest cook in the world but I thought I should try, today of all days.” “I was talking about you,” Poe said, shutting the door and blindly tossing the data pad in his hands on a nearby table, “You look gorgeous.” Three years of marriage, a year of dating, and so many years before of friendship but he could still make me blush without even trying. “You don’t look so bad yourself, handsome,” I said, both of us crossing the room to each other. I stroked a hand over his cheek, “This is looking exceptional.” Poe laughed, his arms wrapping around my waist. “Sure it doesn’t make me look too old?”
“No,” I shook my head quickly, “Don’t even think about getting rid of it. I think I love it more than I love you.” “Ha ha ha,” Poe shot back sarcastically, though with a smile on his face. He inched his face closer to mine until our lips met in a warm kiss. Afterwards, he let them hover over my mouth. “Happy Anniversary.” “Happy Anniversary,” I smiled, pressing my forehead to his. “Three years ago, I actually tricked you into marrying me,” Poe joked, softly beginning to sway us to an imaginary beat.
“Mm,” I closed my eyes and let him move us, “Or did I use a mind trick on you and trick you into marrying me?” Poe laughed softly, “Either way, I think it worked out.” I pulled back and ran a hand through the curls at the nape of his neck. I analyzed his face, a few more lines decorated it than there were before the war’s end, the beard he was growing made him look a little more dignified, but when I looked at him, all I saw was the young, clean shaven pilot who had burst into the Resistance and my heart all those years ago. Mom had told me when I was a kid that when she looked at Dad it didn’t matter how old he was, she still saw the young man she’d fallen in love with. I hadn’t understood it until now, sometimes love was timeless…
“Yeah,” I nodded, “It worked out.”
Poe pressed a playful kiss to my nose, causing me to scrunch it up and eliciting a chuckle from him. “As much as I want to hold you in my arms all night, I also don’t want to let that meal go to waste.” “You’d better not,” I said, disconnecting my arms from around him, “I worked too damn hard on it.” The two of us sat down at the table, digging into the plates I’d concocted for us. It was one of my better attempts at cooking, the majority of it unburnt. Though even if it had been charred remnants of what used to be food, I knew Poe would have still told me it was the best thing he’d ever tasted. “How were things today?” I asked.
Poe hummed as he wiped his mouth, “Not too bad, you didn’t miss much. Finn and I ran the meetings, couple briefings. Honestly, he could have done it without me. He’s a natural.” “I know,” I agreed, it was like Finn was born to be a general, “I’m glad he’s here with us. He’s kind of killing the game…a Jedi slash general.” “Hey, you’re doing the same thing,” Poe waved his fork at me, “And you’re the one that taught him.” I chuckled, thinking back to Finn’s training days. He’d confessed to me and Rey that he was beginning to think he was Force sensitive the day after the Battle of Exegol, something I’d already suspected. We both began training him but with Rey away often, I took over the majority of it. Watching Finn discover his powers was like giving a little kid a present and watching their eyes light up as they open it. It was some of the most fun I’d ever had with him. “Heard anything from Rey lately?” Poe broke up my thoughts. I excitedly straightened up in my seat, “The temple’s almost done. All that’ll be left is finding padawans to train.” Rey and I finished our training together, nearly having been at the end of it when Mom had passed. We’d made the mutual decision to begin training the next generation of Jedi a year and a half ago, but between still working with the Resistance and wanting to do it right, it had taken time. Together, we’d made the choice to base the temple on Naboo, my one time home. It provided the peace that both Rey and I craved, while also giving the solitude that was needed for training. With the help of Poe and Finn, the four of us had constructed the temple from scratch. Rey had moved to Naboo already and was putting the finish touches on our hard work.
“When are you gonna head out to take a look at it?” Poe asked, finishing the last bite of his dinner.
“I was thinking about next week, if I can get away,” I answered, “I don’t want to take too much time away from work here but at the same time…”
“You can’t take time away from that either.” I nodded and went silent, the balance of being a Jedi and a general was harder than I’d expected. Adding on the upcoming addition to our family that would need all of my time and the result was a woman stretched very thin.
“I can’t be two places at once,” I commented, “I want to be here, doing what we both love. But I also want to be there with Rey. I don’t know how to do both…” Poe listened, reaching out to take my hand after I was done. He stroked the skin with his thumb, “You’ll make the right decision, you always do. I mean,” Poe gestured to himself, “You married me.” “Very true,” I replied with a roll of my eyes, “Though I feel like corralling a bunch of armed children will be a little less stressful than being married to you.” Poe removed his hand from mine and clutched his chest. “I am personally offended by that statement,” he said loudly. “Uh-huh,” I laughed, “Who crashed their X-Wing last week when he was showing off to the new recruits?” “That was an essential piece of education for those pilots,” Poe pointed a finger towards me.
“Yes, it was a great lesson on why barrel rolls are a bad idea,” I replied, folding my hands under my chin. Poe shook his head at me with a smile as I laughed at him, “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
After a few seconds of warm silence, Poe tossed his napkin onto his plate and sighed. “So when do I get to give you your present?” “I’m gonna call first slot, actually,” I said, rising from the table and walking over to my nightstand. I pulled the small holoprojecter from the drawer with shaky hands, the reality of what I was about to reveal to him sinking in. I hoped that he would be happy, we’d dreamed about a family for so long, but the timing of it felt all wrong. We were busy beyond reason and now we were going to be parents. I turned to Poe and took slow steps back to the table. “It’s not wrapped and it definitely is going to surprise you, but hopefully you still like it.” “I’ll like it no matter what, promise” Poe said from his seat.
I pulled my chair so I could sit in front of him and held out the holoprojecter in front of us. Drawing a breath, I flicked the switch to reveal the image I’d left it on.
Poe’s eyes scanned over it, not registering what it was. “Okay, um, you’re gonna have to help me out here,” he said with a nervous laugh, “Is it a picture of…the Outer Rim? I’m not sure what cluster of planets this is.” I laughed under my breath, enjoying watching my husband compare my reproductive system to a planetary system. “That,” I dragged his pointed finger to the tiny body, “Is our baby.” His lips parted and his eyes widened slightly, the news washing over him. Poe was rarely ever caught off guard, but he was completely dumbfounded in the moment. “That’s…you’re…we’re…pregnant?” He stammered out. I nodded, grinning as I watched my husband connect the dots. “Yeah,” I whispered.
“That’s our kid,” he confirmed, looking to me with glee, “We’re having a baby?” “We’re having a baby,” I repeated. “We’re having a baby!” Poe cried out.
“We’re having a baby!” I shouted, finally allowing my tears of joy to release.
Poe and I embraced, him pressing endless kisses to my cheeks. My heart felt like it could burst between the love I had for him and for the child growing inside me. Poe broke our hug to look down at my stomach, placing two careful hands on it. “When did you find out?” he asked.
“Just a few days ago,” I answered, placing my hands over his, “I’m six weeks along.”
“We made a baby,” he said, astonished at the concept.
“You sound surprised, but the making process has never been a problem for us…”
Poe smiled at the joke, “No, I mean…I don’t know, sometimes I just remember all that we’ve gone through, all the times I could have lost you and here you are pregnant with my kid. It just…” he looked away from me and down to my belly, “I’m just lucky to have you.” More tears spilled over my eyes as I drew my hand to Poe’s cheek, bringing his gaze up to meet mine. “We’re lucky to have each other,” I whispered, recalling all the times I’d almost lost him as well. Being a general had slowed him down from going out on missions as much, but I still worried every time he went up in an X-Wing and left me. All I could do was trust that after all we’d been through and all the times the galaxy could have tragically split us apart, it would always conspire to bring us back to one another. Poe and I defied all odds.
I brought my lips down to his in a gentle kiss, nudging his nose with mine after. “I love you,” I said lowly, “So much.” “I love you too,” Poe said, pecking the side of my lips before dropping down to my stomach, “I love you both.” Just when I thought I couldn’t fall any more in love with him, I realized I was going to get to watch Poe be a father. And I didn’t think there’d be a better dad alive than him.
“So, it’s safe to say that I win ‘best anniversary gift?'” I remarked, keeping a hand on Poe’s shoulder as he stared in awe at my stomach.
“Well, obviously I can’t top this,” he looked up, “But I think I can come close. Come with me.” Poe draw me up out of my seat and led me to the door. He stopped before we could exit, “As much as I love this dress, you’re gonna need to change.”
Minutes later, Poe had changed out of his general attire and back into his usual leather jacket and fatigues. I changed into a similar outfit, wondering as I did how long it would take until I needed to get new clothes to accommodate my growing belly.
Poe led us through the base, smiling and nodding as people greeted us. He had settled into the role of general so well, despite initial nerves and I was so proud of him.
The two of us ended up in the shipyard, Poe guided me to where his X-Wing was docked. “Where are we going?” I asked as he unlatched the cockpit.
“Somewhere special,” he replied, jumping in and patting his lap, “Hop in.” Suddenly, I felt like the jungle of Ajan Kloss and everyone around us disappeared. All I saw was the two of us four years ago inside the hanger on D’Qar. The night when I couldn’t sleep and Poe took me out on a midnight flight. The night that everything had changed between us.
“You alright?” Poe asked. “I’m great,” I nodded, my eyes misty as I climbed into the ship with him, “Let’s fly, Dameron.” “Your wish is my command, Dameron,” he said as I settled into his lap, pecking the side of my head as he finished the pre-flight check, “Never get tired of saying that.” He took us up into the air and out of Ajan Kloss’ atmosphere, bringing us to light speed soon after. Very few things made me as happy as flying with Poe in his X-Wing, the closeness the small cockpit forced was heaven as far as I was concerned.
We flew for maybe thirty minutes before he took us out of hyperspace, revealing our destination as-
“Naboo? What are we doing here?”
“Just hold your questions,” Poe said as he guided us down into the planet’s atmosphere. We flew past the capital in the direction of where the temple was. He steered us a couple miles away from it before bringing us down for a landing in a large field. We dismounted and landed in the grass, I looked around as we dismounted to spot a large house built smack in the middle of the field.
“Alright, you’ve got me,” I shrugged my shoulders, turning back to where he stood, “Where are we?” “Well,” Poe started, “I know that you and Rey are setting up the temple nearby and I don’t need to be a Jedi to sense that I know that that’s where your heart is. And then I was thinking, well, where’s my heart? Obviously the answer was with you but secondarily, it’s with the Resistance. So I tried to figure out, how could we have the best of both worlds? And this is what I came up with,” he gestured to the house and took a few steps toward me, “Well, it’s part of it.” “Is this…” my head spun between the house and Poe, “Is this ours?” “Not officially,” he held his hands up to me, “I wanted to make sure you liked it but…yeah, this could be our home.” My heart leapt at what he was suggesting. “Wait, how could you stay with the Resistance if we’re on Naboo?” Poe took me by the shoulders and turned me around, pointing a finger out towards the horizon. “About ten miles that way is a perfect location for a second base,” I looked up at him and smiled, “Finn would stay on Ajan Kloss and I’d be here. The Resistance is growing so big, we’re really in need of one, regardless of your decision.” It still surprised me sometimes how well Poe knew me, that he could read what I was struggling to voice and not be afraid to say it. Or in this case, rearrange our lives around it. “Poe,” I took his hands, “I don’t want you to think that I’m abandoning you or the Resistance or Mom’s legacy…I just…I just know deep down that the temple is where I’m supposed to be right now.” “Sweetheart, the last thing I think you’re doing is abandoning me. You’re a Jedi, first and foremost, and I get that. Maybe I didn’t before…” he stopped, making a point to look me in the eyes, “But I do now.” My smile grew as he continued, “And besides, there’s no saying that I can’t run something by you occasionally. I know you, you won’t be able to stop yourself.” I laughed, knowing he was right. I’d never be able to let go of the Resistance entirely, it was a part of me too. But to be able to commit fully to working with Rey at the temple? That sent a thrum of excitement through my body that only came with doing something you were passionate about.
“The Jedi and the General, huh?” I said, peering up at him through my lashes with a smile.
“And the world’s greatest baby in a couple months,” he added, putting one arm around my waist and stretching his other palm over the expanse of my stomach, “And a pretty nice place to call home if Her Royal Jediness agrees?” “Oh, please,” I scrunched up my face, “I don’t even need to see the place to know it’s great.”
I remembered the conversation about our future we’d had three and a half years before, when Poe and I had flown back to the Dameron homestead for his birthday. We’d talked about our future children, the possibility of marriage, a home and what we’d do with our days once we were no longer fighting a war. Now that those days were here, it seemed almost too good to be true.
“So if I’m retiring,” I asked, “When is General Dameron calling it a day?” Still rubbing a thumb over my belly, his face turned a balance of joyful and serious. “When he can provide a safe enough galaxy for his family,” he answered.
“That could take a while,” I chortled, appreciative though of the sentiment. “True,” he tilted his head, “But I’ve still got a few things left to do before I’m comfortable leaving it all to Finn. And then,” Poe wrapped both arms around my waist, “It’s gonna be nothing but sleeping in with you every morning and teaching our kid how to fly-“ “Oh my gosh,” I gripped the lapels of his leather jacket and pulled his face mere inches away from mine, “No flying till they’re old enough. Wait…did you just say that because you knew I’d do this and be forced to kiss you?”
Poe smugly smiled and leaned down, “You have your mind tricks, I have mine…” I shook my head as I poorly contained a grin and pressed my lips to his in a soft kiss, one filled with promises of the everything we'd dreamed of having.
“I love you, Poe Dameron,” I said after we broke apart.
“I love you too,” he replied, pressing his forehead to mine and wrapping me up in his arms, “You and our baby are the best things that have ever happened to me.”
I tucked my face into his neck and breathed him in, no matter how many meetings and briefings filled his days, he still always managed to smell faintly of sweat and oil. Poe was the galaxy’s general, but he’d always be my flyboy.
“To think,” Poe said, “All it took was us getting split up on a mission to make you realize you loved me.” I pulled back and slid my hands down to his chest, “Yeah, well, that's never going to happen again. You’re stuck with me for the rest of your life.” “Sounds like a plan, sweetheart,” Poe smiled.
I hadn’t seen many happy endings in my life, I knew we lived in a galaxy that was more than often unfair. The fact that Poe and I had both survived the war and were free to reach out and take hold of the future we’d wished for was unbelievable. I’d watch couples be torn apart in the war, my own parents included, and with Poe and I being in the roles we were in, I had been sure at times that we’d be one of them. Yet here we were, hand in hand, standing outside the place we’d call home for the years to come. Poe and I had been through our share of troubles, but it was written as plainly as the stars above us, we were unbreakable.

Steve Harrington x Reader
Casuality
Just some fluff, angst and smut
Warning: mentions of alcohol, mentions of sexual activity, a little cursing
How did me and Y/N ended making out in my pool? Bad decisions and booze, that's the answer. I wanted it to stop, but it was good.. Too damn good. I can taste in her mouth the bitterness of the alcohol we drank a while ago. The mix of beer and vodka was still lingering in her mouth.
My hands run in her legs, as her hands tug my hair. There were fire igniting inside us, it was burning with lust and adrenaline. A low moan escapes her mouth, this added fuel to the fire inside us. We both knew that we'd regret this in the morning, but we didn't stop.
Y/N Henderson..
I'm close to her brother, but not to her. We fought monster beside each other, she was close to Robin, Nancy and Jonathan. But not to me, that's why I'm surprised when she arrived in my doorsteps, alcohol in her hands.
"Hey, Steviee!Wanna run around town and get smashed?"
She caught me off guard but I agreed, I was always intrigued by her. I never noticed her in high school but she seems to know everything about me.
"Oh, come on!Steve!I'm not stupid!I know you use that shitty shampoo and conditioner!"
"It's not shitty! It's the real deal!"
"Whatever, let's go back to your house and take a dip in your fancy pool!"
My mind snapped back as we moved to my bed, Y/N's heavy breaths and low moans was all I could hear from her. We drop in my bed, we knew were going to spend all night here. The sheets wrapped around our naked bodies, legs entangled with each others. Moans filling the room, sweats dripping from our hot naked body. We were drunk and stupid. Sobriety and rational thinking was out the window. This night was filled with bad decisions and bad decisions only.
Days have passed since that night, we decided to continue the relationship but we're keeping it casual. We're now sitting in my car, music blasting on the stereo on a low volume. She was looking blankly on the window as I drive her to campus.
"What are you thinking about?" I questioned, snapping her out of her trance. She smiled at me as she relaxed into the passenger seat.
"Whatever your thinking about.."
"Dustin moaning really weird last night?" I joked causing her to glare at me.
"No, but now that's what I'm thinking.." I chuckled at her response as I paid attention to the road.
"Hey, do you want to have a sleep over tonight?"
"Sleepover? What are you ten?Do you also want to braid each other's hair and have a pillow fight?" Her witty remarks always get me laughing, that's one thing I like about you Y/N..
"Come on, we're not gonna be sleeping anyway.." I pleaded.
"Ooh, Stevie gonnna give me the lovey dovey!" She said in a baby voice. Gotta admit, that was weird as hell.
"Oh dear god.." I mumbled under my breath.
"What's that Harrington?" Her glares could literally kill someone, I just gave her an innocent smile, she just rolled her eyes.
"Nothing.."
"I'll see you tonight, then.."
A comfortable silence filled the ambiance of the car, if I know Y/N and I think I do, she'll try to rummage her brain for something to talk to--.
"What was Dustin moaning about?" There it is..
"Oh dear god.." I just shake my head in amusement.
The first time I had ever seen you cry was the day we got home from campus, snots and tears were everywhere. I never saw you cry, even when we almost died twice while trying to save the world. Not a one single tear, but now your here infront of me. Tears in your eyes, as you sobbed into my chest. I don't know what to do, should I comfort you?
"What happend?" I finally asked the lingering thought in my head.
"I saw Dad with his brand new family.."
Y/N's father..
I never really met him but to what I gather from Y/N and Dustin is that he's a coward. He left his family to be with another woman.. Putting the three of you to emotional trauma and abuse.
"I'm sorry.." That's all I could say..
"After all what he did to Mom and Dustin, he have the audacity to be happy while Mom cover up the pain with cats.."
"I hate my dad, I swear if he ever comes back, I'll feed him to the demogorgons.. Why does this always happen to me? Can everything be just fine again?"
I hate seeing her like this.. What should I say? I can't really relate to her, my parents still stood by me.
"I'd do whatever I could do, if you want to get wasted, I'll do it with you, If you want to burn your dad's house, I'll be down with that. Just don't cry, I can't stand seeing you like this."
A small laugh erupted from her, moving beside me, she lay her head into my shoulders.
"Thanks for the reassurance Harrington.."
"That's what I'm here for.."
"Come on Steve, let's make out in your pool.." Y/N stands up, and gave me her hand, I gladly accepted it.
"Why do you have to ruin the mood?"
"How's that ruining the mood?If anything, I'm building the mood." She said in a sultry and teasing voice. I rolled my eyes, does she think I'll get turned on by that. She was crying just a moment ago, she was releasing snots.
"I think you have daddy issues, love.." It was her turn to roll her eyes.
"We all have daddy issues.." I grab her cheeks and peck her lips.
"We both have daddy issues, then." She just gave me the most precious smile that ever existed.. Oh, God. How I love you.
The first fight we had was also our last, it was your birthday. We were hanging out in your room, laying in her bed as the television played Star Wars. The pale moon was dancing all throughout the room, I knew there was something bothering me, we've been doing this for months, keeping everything casual. I'm growing tired of the constant thought that someone will take her away from me.. Don't get me wrong, I love Y/N, I'm not sure how she feel about me though. Y/N's like a close book, hard to read. So many things that I wish I knew, but there's so many walls that I can't break through. ( Where the swifties at? )
"Are you okay?" Y/N soft voice pulled me out of my head.
Am I really okay? No, why? I want us to be in a committed relationship, where someone can't take you away from me. That's how much I love you..
"Nothing, just thinking about us.." A small smile tugged in her lips as she scoot closer.
"What about us?" She asked, her brows wiggling.
"Being casual and all.." The smile she had falter, she moved away from me, running her hands through her hair.
"You know I'm not ready yet.."
"You always say that."
"Steve!I can't have this exact same conversation with you over and over again!" And here we are, fighting.. The anger inside me flicked open, I know it won't do good but I still went ahead and got mad.
"Why can't you say it once?!" Our shouts echoed through the whole house, her Mom is probably worried about her.
"What can't I say?!" She asked confused and angry at the samw time.
"That you love me!" The whole room suddenly got quiet, the look in Y/N's face was hard to read. Are you shocked? Scared? Angry? What? Do you love me like I love you? Please, say the words that I want--no, what I need to hear.
"Steve, we both know that we agreed to keep things casual.." She finally spoke, but not the words that came out was not what I needed.
"Casual? We've been together for almost a year now, how much more casual do you want it to get?"
"I--Steve, I can't do this now.." She backs away from me, opening her door wide open for me to leave.
"Why?" That's all that exited my mouth..
"Because I need space!" She snaps, a involuntary scoff left my lips.
"Space from what?!We barely have a relationship!"
"Just get away!I can't believe your pressuring me!" She shouts, but I stayed to say the words I'll regret..
"Let's just end whatever the fuck this is!"
"Fine!" She screamed as she walks up to me and pushed me out of her room.. Reaching the end of her door, she pushed me. I stumbled but managed to bounce back, before I can even say another word she slammed the door. And there's that..
"Steve?" Dustin came out of his room, a worried expression painted in his face.
"Are you and Y/N okay?"
"Yeah, it's just a--" I stopped at the middle of the sentence, my mouth refused to let the words escape.
"A what?" He questioned.
A break up..
"Nothing, it's nothing.." I lied..
I didn't know why I couldn't say the words. I clearly never wanted this to happen, I didn't know what happend. And I can't take it back, what's done is done..
Life with Y/N was hard, but life without her is much harder. Was I in the wrong? I shouldn't have pressure her, all I wanted is to go up at her house. But Dustin told me, she was really busy with a lot of schoolworks. Where did it get so complicated?
I was walking home when I saw Y/N, just standing in my porch front step. She seems fidgety and nervous, those sweet eyes seem to notice me. Y/N was wearing one of my Van Halen shirts, with a short and just some sneakers. You always looked beautiful in my shirts..
"Steve.." I love how she says my name, but I love it more if she screams my name. Flashes of her naked body grinding on me suddenly appeared on my head. This was not the time but I couldn't help it. I miss her..
"Hey.." I greet..
"I just wanted to--"
"I should be the one apologizing, I shouldn't pressure you like that.." I cut her off, I'm right. There's no need to apologize, I was in the wrong. I pressured her when I agreed to keep it casual.
"Still, I'm sorry too.." Y/N was always nice, never letting her pride get in the way of her life.. An eerie silence once filled our conversation, I never wanted this but maybe..
"Maybe it's best if I give you the space you nee--"
"I love you.." She cuts me off..
"Huh?" My mind went blank, my eyes blink rapidly as I try to sink in the three words you just dropped.
"I don't need space, I love you Steve Harrington.." She confessed cheekily, a small smile appeared on our face.
"I love you too.." She just smiles at me, but she was waiting for something. What is it? A ring, maybe? But this is not a proposal..
"What are you waiting for?Kiss me."
Ohh, right.. The way I moved was slow, I think she grew impatient because you pulled me and our lips collided into one. The way your lips was covered in the strawberry chapstick I gave you, this was my favorite thing in the world. I slid my tongue, it danced with yours. I pushed you in my door, opening it in the process.
When it burst open, we celebrated by going into my bed. Pushing Y/N into the bed was pretty arousing. We didn't need words or foreplay, we're pretty straightforward. Our lips once connected again, heavy breaths and low moans was all I could hear.
We slowly undressed each other, our lips was still intact, rushing into things was never really your motto. I felt your skin made contact with mine, I felt the heat from your body. My hands were making their way to her tender breasts, I slowly massaged it until the nipples turned like tiny stones. A loud moan came out from her mouth, I couldn't resist and licked them, biting them playfully. Another moan came out from her sweet lips, I stopped as I took out my hard and mounting manhood, I rest it unto her thighs. Y/N sits up, looking at me with questions in those eyes.
"What happend? You got tired?" Y/N whisper in her sultry voice.
"Taunting me?Really?"
Before she can even respond I got on top of bed and smirked, your naked body was softly laying in my bed. This made me harder, you're so perfect in every way. My hands are already in your legs, spreading it wide and open. I can see you closing your eyes at my touch, I drove my two fingers inside her. She moans with the contact it made, eyes rolled in the back of her head. I ravish her breast with my mouth as my fingers interact inside her.
"Fuck, Steve!"
I was hitting the right places, she was twisting left and right, her hands were gripping my sheets, I pulled my fingers out and replaced it with my organ. A loud piercing moan escapes her lips as I pump into her, every thrust was in sync with her breathing. I slowly grunt as I pump harder and deeper into her, I yank her legs back, as my other hand gripped her ass. I dug myself further into her, setting off another shattering moan.
"Steve, faster."
I increasing the speed, she wrapped her arms around my back, her nails digging into my skin. Pain and Pleasure was a great mixture for me. I hit every possible spot inside her, the nails dug deeper as I thrust harder and much more deeper. The speed increased once again, as I feel both of our climax building up inside, it can explode any second now. Every thrust I make, every moan she screams, and every sweat that drips was a cherry on top.
"Fuck, I'm coming!"
With that we both exploded into each other, I felt a warm liquid flows between her legs and mine. A small smile appeared on her lips as we were both out of breath, her hair was all disheveled.
"Well, that was fun.." She whisper, her voice hoarsed from all the moaning she did.
"I can see.." I joked causing her cheeks to blush..
"Shut up!"
I pulled out, she shivered at that action. I laid next to her, she looks at me with love and compassion. She pecked a kiss in my lips, cuddling besides me as the moon peaked through my windows. Y/N deserves every love and adoration in the world, I'm going to marry you someday..

Chapter 1 - Dealing with Dixons
It's finally here people! Eekkk! It'll be up on A03 later when I turned my laptop on. Been teasing this for soooo long.
My wonderful tag list:

"Yer take care of yourself lass, don't worry about us."
Phoenix sighed at the man on the other end of the phone, twisting the silver rosary he had given her for her birthday many years ago. The world had changed dramatically for them all since that day. Their history bloody and violent and God sent.
"Are ye listening lass?"
"Of course, I'm listening! It's you who isn't! I'm on the way to Atlanta now! As in I'm already in Georgia! I can't let you three rot in there when we've got things to do!"
"Lass, we can take care of ourselves. Connor wants to know if ye got our package?" He asked, she stifled a laugh at the noise of the pair fighting over the phone she could hear.
"Yea I got it. Haven't opened it yet though" she replied, the bike's engine growing colder under her. "What's in it? You guys shouldn't be sending anything. You're lucky Duffy and Dolly got it t' me before I left Boston."
"I know lass but ye need t' keep those safe fer us." She smiled hearing her other friend's voice, clearly having won the battle for the phone. "Look things are getting bad here. You're safe now but things are gettin' weird, we'd never forgive ourselves if anything happened to ye. I love ye too much"
"I love ya too, you idiot! I'm gonna get you all out. We have a mission! I've got a bag full of your stuff right here on my bike, your clothes, coats, guns."
"Aye. What?! No? Yea. Let me say goodbye a' least?" Phoenix knitted her eyebrows, hearing the man talking to someone else. A prison guard maybe. "Lass we have t' go. I'll call ye back when things settle aye?"
"Yea. Just tell me where you are at least?"
"Sorry lass I got to -"
The line suddenly died on her and she frowned, shaking the phone and seeing no signal. She ran her hand through her short dark red hair and started the bike up, speeding quickly towards Atlanta and her boys.
**********
The sun shined through the thin, flimsy material of the tent, shining directly down into the sleeping pairs eyes. The short, spiky, dyed haired young woman groaned and threw her arm over her face. She sat slowly and yawned. She'd had that dream for weeks, wondering what had happened to her friends.
Had the prison been overrun by the monsters that lurked in every corner? Were they dead? Or worse... Had they become one of those things?
She'd slept after her watch shift, which surprised the girl as she had been having a bad bout of insomnia for the last two weeks. Ever since...
No, she thought don't think about it.
She glanced at the young boy laid next to her and smiled. When Carl asked if he could sleep in her tent with her the night before she had been hesitant (mainly because Lori rarely let him out her sight) but Lori had said it was okay and she was not going to fight against the long-haired beauty.
Lori had also said it would be good for her, get her to trust others again. And honestly the boy reminded her so much of her old friend with his boundless energy and smiles.
A gentle tap to the roof of her tent set her senses on guard. She grabbed her long calf length boots and her Bowie knife and slowly pulled the zipper up. A sigh released from her throat as she squinted up at the crossbow welding man in front of her.
"We goin' hunting or what?" He snarled at her, obviously still mad at the woman from their disagreement yesterday. It wasn't her fault. He had spooked her...
Merle approached the dark red haired girl sat by the quarry lake silently. Something was up with her and he was determined to find out what. The sight in front of him worried him slightly, she was nervous and kept flicking her head around. Had she been bit? He was thankful the darkness of the twilight hid him somewhat as he watched. She hissed as she pulled the bloody bandage off her left hand, flexing it and hissing through her teeth. The soft sound of something hitting the surface of the water, made his heart thump. It wasn't raining so why did it sound like it was?
He came right behind her and watched as she rubbed at the wound, it oozed blood and yellowish white pus as she gritted her teeth. Infection was setting in. Daryl called out his name from camp and the girl spun and noticed him there.
"Ya shouldn't be down 'ere by herself girlie." He whispered, kneeling and gently taking her hand, examining the injury intently. "Now wha' we gonna do abou' yer hand? Yer can't take what I offered yer."
"Burn it again. Only thing we can do. Not like we can wander to nearest pharmacy, throw my hand on the counter and say fix it, is it?" She hissed as he prodded a sensitive spot, Merle chuckled slightly and helped her to her feet.
"Nah but China is headed t' the city tomorrow. I'ma go too. I know my meds and I'll get yer what yer need t' be right as rain again, Lil sis." He said with a smirk as they climbed back up the slope to the camp. Daryl and Shane spun round at their footsteps and Merle smirked. Officer ass-hat was on one about something.
"Phoenix! Where have you been?! We told you to stay in camp until you could fight!" Shane whisper-yelled in her face.
"Easy there officer. Girl just needed a second by 'erself... Gets a bit loud round here." Merle defended her, placing himself between the well musculared man and the girl who seemed to shrink into herself. "She's fine. I was a watchin' her."
"I bet you were Dixon." Lori said under her breath. Phoenix glanced at the woman with eyes narrowed. The majority of the camp thought the Dixons were rude, brash and shouldn't be there. Only Phoenix, Glenn, Andrea and Shane knew of the incident that had cemented the brothers in the camp's good graces, well in their good graces.
Phoenix sat down at the small fire infront of her tent and sighed, her ears picking up on raised voices coming from the Dixon tent. It sounded like Daryl was majorly pissed about something and Merle was defending himself.
Isn't any of your business she thought ignore them.
She gazed deep into the fire, the heat warming her frozen limbs nicely. She hated the cold, not that it was cold but she felt like she was sat on a box of ice in just her underwear. She had experienced working in much colder situations, hell the Irish rain was colder than this. The sweat on her brow made her eyes ache and she closed them, leaning her head back.
"Ahh!" She shrieked, jumping up and thrusting her knife backwards towards whatever had grabbed her shoulder. A deep grunt sounded and her hand was twisted, causing her to release her grip of the blade's handle.
"Ain't no need t' try t' gut me girl." Daryl growled, his gruff voice instantly calming the nervous woman. She sighed and held her hand out, Daryl raised his chin and regarded whether to return her knife or not for a moment. He relented at her raised eyebrow and dropped it into her left hand. She hissed in pain and clutched at her wrist. Quicker than she could pull away, he'd wrapped his hand around her wrist yanking her closer and pulling the bandage off her injury. He could see how raised and angry it look, grimacing slightly as it oozed at his poking. Tears of pain welled in her eyes as she grit her teeth, he grumbled under his breath and glanced over his shoulder at his older brother. Merle nodded and raised the half empty bottle of whiskey in a salute. "This why Merle is leavin' right?"
"Yea, told him he didn't have to." She whispered as he released her arm, her skin tingled at the lose of contact. Daryl ran his hand over his neck and bit his lip.
"Ye need meds. Ain't happy a' him, riskin' his neck fer someone like ya." He groaned under his breath. Her mood soured and she shoved him away. He stumbled for a second and threw her a glare. "What the hell is ya problem girl?"
"Someone like me Dixon? Huh? What exactly do you mean by that?!" She folded her arms across her chest. Daryl's eyes flickered downwards for a second to how her arms pushed her breasts higher and more together.
God she's gorgeous when she's mad he thought, his cock twitching in his jeans. He ducked his head and scoffed.
"Ya know what I mean, can't even hunt without hurtin' yaself."
"Go away Dixon." She turned on her heel and stormed off up the bank, and climbing up the RV ladder to take watch. Daryl sighed and slopped off back to his brother, who was laughing, finding the whole scene hilarious.
**********
Phoenix nodded up at the hunter and pulled on her boots and grabbed her bow. She followed Daryl over to his tent where his brother was preparing to go into the city. Merle gave her a once over as she approached, his eyes narrowed at the bow across her back and the stains on the bandage around her left hand.
"Mornin' Firebug." He drawled as the pair stopped. She nodded and heaved her backpack tighter to her shoulder beside her quiver of arrows. "Y'all gonna be alright t' hunt wit' tha' hand?" He questioned, giving his brother a glance. Daryl gave Merle a hooded lidded look and nodded his head up. "Don't wanna waste my time if ya gonna drop down dead on poor Darlena 'ere."
The girl smirked and shoved the older man's shoulder playfully before flipping him off, striding towards the treeline.
"You watch 'er baby brother. She's one of us now."
"Hmm" Daryl said, glancing at the girl as she waited just under the cover of the trees for him. Merle gave a low chuckle and Daryl glared at him. "Stop."
"Come on baby brother, don't be like that." Merle stood and patted him on the shoulder. "Ya been pining after 'er for weeks now. Just give her some of the ol' Dixon charm. If ya even have any!" He barked out a laugh as his brother scoffed and walked away, joining the girl and disappearing into the woods.
**********
A low whistle drew her attention and she glanced in the direction of it. Daryl raised his hand and pointed off towards the copse of trees in front of him. Keeping her body low to the ground and her steps feather light she approached him. Her eyes darting out at the small herd of deer in front of them, they'd finally found them after two days in the woods. She raised her hand and pointed to the smaller of the two bucks. Daryl nodded and gestured he was going to try and get around them so if they darted he could take a shot. She nodded and crouched lower, using the shrubs to hide her. Daryl wandered away silently as she waited for his signal.
A loud shriek pierced the air and the deer scattered. Daryl swore and took off after the smaller buck, Phoenix following him at a distance.
**********
They stopped by a small creak, Phoenix dipping her hand into it and running it over the back of her neck. She felt like she was on fire, yet icy cold at the same time. The infection in her hand had well and truly set in, she needed to be careful or she'd drop and not get back up.
"We go a littl' further then stop fer the night." Daryl mummered beside her, wiping his soaked red rag over the back of his neck and down his face. She nodded, eyes staring off into the stream. He watched her carefully, the way her hair at the back of her neck was slightly curly, the way her ears twitched as if she was a rabbit or a deer hearing a predator. He found her beautiful and mysterious. A riddle he wanted to solve. He couldn't help his attraction to her physique either, the woman was beautiful. Not perhaps every man's wet dream but he found her incredibly sexy.
He admired how she wore gothic, all black, metal studded and chained clothes despite the heat, her short dyed dark red hair, the regrowth hinting at sandy blond, spiked with sweat these days that cried out to be tugged as she was kissed, the slight thicker set of her thighs, buttocks and stomach, he much preferred a girl with a bit of weight than the skinny, almost starved look some of the women up at camp had; the ink he could spy under her clothes was calling out for him to discover exactly how many tattoos she had and why she'd chosen them. He had seen a glimpse of the tattoos on her by accident when he'd stumbled upon her at the lake having a quick swim and also when he'd found her in the woods. She kept herself well covered normally, she said she got sunburn easily. He could spy an interesting shaped scar across her collar bone when she wore lower cut shirts, not that she did very much now.
Not since he'd saved her in the woods a week or so ago.
He loved how well they worked as hunters together. She knew enough to track decently and was surprisingly quiet on her feet, despite the heavy metal covered, thick platform soled boots she chose to wear. They're only issue seemed to be that they butted heads constantly when not hunting, both taking verbal swipes at each other whenever they tried to have a conversation, sometimes she'd slap him on the arm; Merle finding it hilarious and entertaining to join in. Damn Merle, was his fault she got hurt in the first place. If he hadn't egged her on about her lack of hunting abilities, she wouldn't have been out in the woods by herself in the first place.
He sighed quietly as she raised to her feet and moved away, eyes scanning the forest floor for the deer's tracks, finding them and leading the way.
**********
Daryl grunted as he lowered himself down beside the girl, who was turning a stick through the weak fire in front of her. The night was silent except for the light wind. He silently settled down against the log and took out of one of the squirrel for the pair to eat. Daryl made quick work of gutting and skinning the small rodent and shoved it on a stick to slowly roast over the flames. The girl's eyes drifting upwards towards the stars. She looked so peaceful that he didn't want to disturb her.
"We gotta head back in the morning if we don't find the deer." She nodded and pulled her arms around her own shoulders, shivering slightly. "Come 'ere." He said, holding his arms open for her to settle beside him. Daryl usually hated touching others and being touched was a rarity for him but he'd made the exception for her while they hunted. It was simply for survival he told himself. If she got too cold she'd get sick and then the group wouldn't have a hunter when he and Merle left. And he'd feel that guilt all his life, the kids needed fresh meat so he was doing something for the group. Nothing to do with his stupid little crush. Nope, he was doing it for the group. She shuffled closer and wrapped an arm around his waist. Her head found his chest and she sighed, feeling the heat from Daryl seep into her cold bones. Daryl frowned, she felt hot yet she was shivering like crazy.
That damn hand.
He pulled her closer and ran his hand cautiously up and down her arm. She flinched at first then relaxed into his embrace.
"Ya alright?"
"Yea. Just cold." She whispered, her warm breath causing goose bumps across Daryl's chest. She blinked slowly, feeling sleep call her. The smell of Daryl's warm body lulling her, she had missed falling asleep in a man's arms. It was familiar and comforting. She felt safe, warm and protected despite the dead walking.
**********
The sharp whistle drew her attention to the left. She nocked her arrow and let it fly, hitting the deer in the hind leg causing it to run. The two hunters had caught up to the deer earlier and were driving it towards camp. Daryl was in the rear urging it forward, while she made it turn in the right direction when it veered too far to the left.
She spotted the steep banks that marked the outer edges of the quarry and smiled.
Almost home.
Taking another shot to steer the deer towards the lower bank she smiled. The group would eat well tonight. She stumbled and shot at the hind leg again. The deer in one last desperate burst of energy slipped out of her sight but it was very close to camp. Wouldn't take long for them to catch up.
**********
Phoenix paused and braced her arms on her knees, Daryl whistled in question, asking if she was alright as he walked by her. She held up a hand in reply. He grumbled and walked away. She could hear yells and the sounds of stomping as she neared the rocks that hid camp.
Daryl was knelt on the ground and looking over the deer.
"Think we could cut around the chewed up part?" He said looking up at Dale and the others. Phoenix's eyes narrowed as she spotted a new face amongst the men. The group of men didn't seem to notice her as she joined Daryl at his side, subconsciously seeking his protection from the stranger. Fear made her heart pound loudly in her ears as Daryl stood.
"I wouldn't risk that" Shane said quietly, Daryl sighed dejectedly frustrated he hadn't been able to feed the group more.
"That's a damn shame. We got us some squirrels... About a dozen or so. That'll have to do."
"Oh my god!" Amy gasped as the head of the walker suddenly began to gnash its teeth.
"Come on people! What the hell?!" Daryl exclaims as he releases a bolt through its undead head. "It's gotta be the brain! Don't y'all know nothin'?!"
Phoenix smirked, shouldering her bow as she followed Daryl back into camp. She gave a glance over her shoulder at the group behind her, noticing the exchange of looks between them.
"MERLE! MERLE! Get ya ugly ass out here! Got us some squirrel! Let's stew 'em up!" Daryl calls out, Phoenix swivelling her head to see where the elder Dixon was.
"Daryl, just slow up a bit. I need to talk to you." Shane called, his hands on his hips as the group avoids Daryl and Phoenix's eyes.
"About what?" Daryl queries, pausing his march around the camp. Phoenix, instinctively, taking Daryl's back with a bad feeling in her gut.
"DD... Hear him out." She whispers as Daryl narrows his eyes in suspicion. Daryl glances at her briefly before turning back to Shane.
"About Merle... There was a... There was a problem in Atlanta." The former officer sighs, his hand reaching out as if to pacify the man. Phoenix grits her teeth and reaches for the gun hidden behind her shirt slowly, sensing this was not going to end well.
"He dead? "
"We're not sure..."
OH shitttt Phoenix thought, slipping the brace of squirrels and her bow off her shoulder.
"He either is or he ain't!" Daryl stated, his voice raising in anger as his face grew more dark.
"No easy way to say this so I'll just say it." The newcomer said quietly, stepping into the discussion.
"Who are you?!" Daryl asked, confused slightly as to what this stranger had to do with his brother's disappearance.
"Rick Grimes."
"Rick Grimes?!" Daryl spat aggressively, his face a mask to the hurt and anger underneath. "You got summit ya want t' tell me?"
"Your brother was a danger to us all, so I... I handcuffed him on a roof, hooked him to a piece of metal... He's still there."
"What the fuck!?" Phoenix snarled as her eyes narrowed at the newcomer. Her stance widening, readying herself for a fight. Daryl began pacing, his eyes meeting hers, she gave a barely there nod in agreement with him.
"Hold on... Let me process this. You're sayin' you handcuffed my brother to a roof and you left him there!?" Daryl growled as he paced, the woman edging towards Shane, out of Daryl's path to Rick.
"Yeah."
Daryl growls loudly as he throws his rope of squirrels at Rick, who dodges them easily.
"Hey! Watch the knife!" T-Dog yells as Daryl pulls his knife. Shane dodges Phoenix and gets behind Daryl, quickly putting him into a chokehold. Phoenix steps up behind Shane, her own knife slipping into her grip, her gun giving a low click as she removed the safety and pointed it at the curls of Shane's hair.
"Okay... Okay..." Shane whispers, lowering Daryl and himself to the ground.
"You'd best let me go!" Daryl gasped, struggling to free himself.
"Do as he says!" Phoenix snarls, her Beretta a mere breath away from Shane's skull.
"Chokehold's illegal!" Daryl grunts, thrashing his legs. Phoenix lowers her gun to Shane's shoulder, ready to pull the trigger if needed.
"You can file a complaint!" Shane laughs weakly. "Come on man. We'll keep this up all day."
"Like shite we will. I'll shoot ya first mate!" The red head growled as Rick kneels in front of Daryl and Shane, his head tilting to the side.
"I'd like to have a calm discussion on this topic. Do you think we can manage that? Do you think we can manage that?"
Daryl grunts, ceasing to struggle, slapping his hand out to the side of him; silently signalling to the woman to stand down as Shane hums in question.
"Mmm...Yeah." Daryl replies.
Shane releases him quickly and steps away as the younger man raises himself to his feet. Shane's eyebrows raised as Phoenix pulls herself to her full height, him and Rick giving her a worried glance. She smirks and makes a show of putting her knife and gun back into their places. Rick turns to Daryl and rubs the back of his neck slowly.
"What I did was not on a whim. Your brother does not work or play well with others."
"It’s not Rick's fault!" T-Dog interrupted, the large man stepping closer. "I had the key... I dropped it!"
Phoenix scoffed, glaring at the man.
"Ya couldn't pick it up?!" Daryl questioned, his anger disappearing and being replaced by worry and anxiety.
"Well, I dropped it in a drain."
"If that’s supposed to make me feel better, it don't." Daryl snapped as he shook his head, pacing in a small circle. Phoenix joining him at his side and glaring daggers at T-Dog.
"Maybe this will... Look, I chained the door to the roof... So geeks couldn't get at him... With a big ass chain and padlock. Its got to count for something!"
"Hell with all y'all! Just tell me where he is... So that I can go get him." Daryl choked out, his voice cracking with tears as Phoenix gently placed a hand on his shoulder.
"So we can go get him." She declared, daring anyone to argue with her. Daryl gave her a tiny up nod at her and squeezed her hand on his shoulder lightly.
"He'll show you. Isn't that right?" Lori spoke up from the door of the RV, she looked to Rick quietly awaiting his reply.
"I'm going back." He stated quietly. Lori sighed and walked into the RV.
*********
Phoenix pulled on her long studded leather jacket and secured her axe into the specialised holster on her back. Daryl stood beside her silently, chewing his lip. The Brit have a slight wobble as she got lighter headed and Daryl's mind came to only one solution to a major issue between the pair.
"Hey."
"Hey DD. You ready to go get Merle?" She asked, bending to tie her boot laces. "Yea... Ya not comin' though."
"What!? You can't be serious DD! You need me with you so those picks don't leave you there as well!" She snapped back as he turned to walk away.
"Daryl!"
"Nah. Ya hurt. Too many geeks in the city fer ya axe. Stay here. Keep safe." He argued back, she growled in her throat and pushed by him. His hand wrapped around her arm in a bruising grip.
"Dixon..."
"Listen... Stay here. I don't... Just... Fuck." He hissed. "Merle will be pissed. Real pissed."
"He'll of been baked in the sun ya mean! He is gonna be stir fried from the heat! He's gonna need someone to calm him down. He ain't gonna hurt me DD... He wouldn't hurt me." She sighed, her head beginning to throb. "I have to Daryl. I owe him one!"
"Nah ya don't!"
"Yes I fucking do!"
"No. Ya stayin' here!"
"I'm going!" She yelled, hands on her hips.
"No!"
"Yes!"
"NO! And that's final!"
The pair continued to argue for several more minutes until Shane interrupted them, the pair literally chest to chest and needing to be pulled apart before fists began to fly. Phoenix huffed and stormed away into the woods as the man agreed with Daryl. Daryl glared after the fiery woman before stomping off to the truck, missing her turning back towards the camp and leaning against a tree with her arm crossed against her chest.
Phoenix glanced at the truck Daryl stood in. She wanted to wish them luck but knew Daryl was still angry with her. He looked in her direction and nodded his head, a small smile gracing the corner of his mouth. She sighed and walked towards him, he knelt down at the open shutter and tilted his head towards her. "Keep safe in the city DD." She whispered, gazing upwards into the man's sky blue eyes. He nodded and chewed his thumb. "Bring Merle back. Wouldn't be the same round here without that dickhead."
"Yea. Be quieter fer sure." He chuckled, smiling fondly at the girl. Phoenix reached up and pulled at Daryl, forcing him to brace himself against the ledge as she hugged him with one arm against her chest. Daryl slowly relaxed enough to enjoy her closeness and leaned his head on top of hers.
"Please come back." She whispered into his ear as he pulled back slightly, his eyes flitting around camp to make sure no one was witnessing the exchange. He nodded lightly into her neck, his arm coming to loosely hold her waist. He breathed in her soothing subtle scent and closed his eyes to help him memorise thee moment, just in case. He cleared his throat and pulled away, feeling a certain part of his anatomy starting to stir. She smiled weakly at him with teary eyes and walked away.
"Hey!"
Phoenix turned slightly, the breeze making her hair wave over her face softly. Thee sun shining behind her making her hair look like flames licking across the crown of her head. The bruises and cuts across her face hidden in the shadows of her face and hair. So beautiful Daryl thought, smiling slightly. His mind locking the sight into his memory as he stood and waved to her.
"Stay safe!" He called to her, she nodded and waved back. Her cheeks tinting pink at his loud show of concern as she smiled softly.

DELTARUNE SPOILERS
Heyyy! I wrote a thing involving Jevil and the Chapter 2 Superboss! I'm going to put it under the cut, but at the end, there will also be an Ao3 link if you wanna support me there!
Thank you! Remember to Reblog if you wanna
The Lightner Trio walked down the stairs in the Queen's massive manor, their hurried footsteps echoing like a rough pitter-patter in the technological nightmare. The massive lair confused and bamboozled them, but they definitely wanted to figure out the mystery behind what the Fountains were about, what Queen's true intentions were… and what was in the basement?
"Uhh… Kris?" Ralsei asked, his soft voice echoing out. "Why are we even here? Aren't Queen, Noelle, and Berdly upstairs? And not here…?"
Susie quickly interrupted him, punching his arm lightly to get his attention. "Of COURSE they aren't here. But whatever is here is probably important. Right, Kris?"
"I guess!" The currently blue human replied. "I've been asked by some… guy, about doing these weird favors for him. He really wants me to be alone."
"We sure he ain't a p-" Before Susie could finish her thought, Ralsei muffled her mouth with his scarf. "Who is he? And why does he want you to be alone?"
"His name is Spamton, I think. I don't know much about him, but he gave me this Loaded Disk earlier, and--"
Suddenly, a strange, chaotic voice rang out. Everyone recognized it. The tail attached to Ralsei's cloak popped off, diamonds and hearts flying out with it. The tail spun and took form, and the chaotic Jester they quite literally put to rest yesterday was reawakened.
"Spamton? SPAMTON? The same Spamton who wished for me to go, to go, and be free, free?" Jevil laughed chaotically, with Ralsei caught quite off guard. "You know him?"
"That dorito chip was part of the reason why I was set free, he was! He used to rule this world, before the Queen I've been hearing oh so much about took over. Oh, I MUST know more of how you met that ridiculous lunatic! And that's coming from ME, ME! Spamton, oh Spamton, I'd like to have a word with him~!" Jevil looked quite pissed off, his normally jovial expression looking slightly stern.
"I didn't wanna go down there anyway. Just come back, okay? You're kind of carrying us with your defense boost." Kris, with a neutral expression, gave the clown the disk they were gifted by the malignant salesman, and watched as Jevil immediately sprinted off into the basement. They could hear an echoed "Buh bye~! I'll be back in a few hundred words!" As the jester descended into the decrepit basement below...
Jevil entered the musty, rotting cellar. Despite him rarely stepping on the ground, each step he did take left a haunting impact on his feet. It was silent, save for the occasional rustling of his clothes. He didn't have long to do this. His physical form only had a few hours to be out and about before he solidified, just like the young boy and the puzzle freak. Thankfully, that's all he needed. He was getting excited, almost giddy, to interact once more with his old acquaintance. Oh, what a wonderful conversation they'd have!
He didn't walk for too much longer before he found the train station that was buried deep below. Or was it a roller coaster? Whoever had this built clearly had some elaborate roundabout in mind… too bad they were still imprisoned, haha! Jevil walked and floated across the tracks, reaching a room with a decaying robot inside.
He knew this was a bad idea. But when did he ever have good ideas?
Without hesitating, the joker put the disk into the robot. At first, nothing happened, and he was getting impatient VERY quick. He gave the robot a swift kick in the lower area, before stepping back out of the room.
Step…
Step…
SLAM! The clown was admittedly caught off guard with how fast the silhouette from above came and pushed him onto his knees. With a small gasp for air, Jevil looked up slowly at the encroaching menace. The jagged movements, the glitchy, unsolidified form… this was him alright.
"KRIS… MY LOYAL [Sponge!] THANK… YOU. THE [Clown Around Town!] I REMEMBER YOUR [Disgusting] FACE. EVERYONE WAS SO [Thrilled] TO SEE YOUR [Calcified] FACE." The massive robotic behemoth loomed over Jevil, rage in his glasses. Spamton NEO.
The clown got up, a smug, shitfaced expression on his mug. He knew damn well that the dorito in front of him was pissed off, so he leaned back in the air to retort. "At least I drink plenty of milk, uee hee hee! As for you, you haven't changed one bit since we last spoke~! Or would it be a byte, a byte? Regardless, I do hope you've given up on the illusion of freedom, freedom~! The only one who can be free is MEEE!"
The robotic menace swung around to the other side of Jevil, making it very clear who was in charge of the conversation. A small concentrated blast of Pipis was fired at the jester, pushing him back with a surprising amount of force. "YOU ACT SMUG, BUT YOU [Crashed our stocks!] AND THEN YOU [Spoiled relations with our Esteemed Partners!] I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU… GOT IN HERE, YOU… [Tuna Fish,] BUT I'M NOT FALLING FOR YOUR [Roundabout!] AGAIN!"
Jevil laughed maniacally at this thought. This guy was mad! Over something that happened how long ago? Why even bother holding a grudge still? Petty, petty! He knew why, and it's why he came back too. "You influenced him. That pretty little kitty. You gave him enough funds to release me into that carousel of bliss and innocence! But I wasn't done, not one bit! And all those years, spent being free… they made me realize something, my dearest Spamton."
The oddly calm tone coming from the jester put Spamton NEO at an incredible amount of unease. "WHAT? WHAT COULD YOUR [Calcified Lump] THINK OF THAT WOULD MEAN ANY GODDAMN THING TO ME?"
"I CAN DO ANYTHING!"
The joker used his latent power to pelt the giant mecha with small white hearts. Spamton was caught off-guard, stumbling back a fair amount. Of course, you have to fight fire with fire, so the robot used his abilities to send out a Big Shot of blue Spamton Head Pipis.
"YOU [Saturated Marketshare!] YOU CAN'T SIMPLY ATTACK ME AND EXPECT IT TO WORK [As seen on TV!] I'M A [BIG SHOT!] [BIG SHOT!!!]"
Jevil hopped up onto the ceiling, clearing the first few Pipis on the lower row heading his way. Unfortunately, the higher row caught him clean in the face as he bounced between the two, making a small Jack-in-the-box melody as he pinged around.
"SPAMTON, MY BELOATHED! I DON'T THINK YOU UNDERSTAND, UNDERSTAND, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU'RE TRAPPED IN A CAGE WITH A SHARK, A SHARK! YOU GET BITTEN AND CHEWED UP!"
The fool retaliated by running circles around Spamton, turning into a carousel of horse bullets! The robot, in a surprising feat of puppeteering, dodged the attack almost perfectly… until a stray horsie cut a string, sending the mech's right arm into the horse race. One thing about arms with cannons on them? They fire.
As soon as it happened, Jevil was face to face with a swarm of Pipis all around him. He was stuck. All of them exploded brilliantly, sending the clown flying clean across the rotting tracks and into the wall. Tauntingly, mockingly even, Spamton NEO retorted.
"I'M THE SHARK NOW, JEVIL! I'VE CHEWED UP SO MANY [Failed Buisness Partners] THAT I COULD MAKE A WHOLE [Presentation] OUT OF THEM! STAY OUT OF MY GODDAMN WAY, OR [Sparkle like new!] YOU BRAT."
The buisnessman charged at Jevil, his hands becoming phones. "IT'S FOR YOU." Suddenly, before either of them could react, loud blasts of garbage noise manifest expelled from the phones, attacking the court jester with white blasts of energy. There was nothing he could do to stop this robot's onslaught, it looked like.
"OH SPAMTON, IS THAT WHAT YOU THINK? THAT YOU'RE THE ONE WHO'S SO POWERFUL RIGHT NOW, NOW? I'D SUGGEST YOU LOOK UP, UP! YOU'RE NOTHING WITHOUT THOSE STRINGS IMPRISONING YOU, UEE HEE HEE! YOU'RE NOT A BIG SHOT, YOU'RE JUST A LAZY FRAUD WHO CAN'T STOP HANGING ON TO HIM! I GUESS SLEEPING FOR 100 YEARS DOESN'T MAKE LITTLE OLD ME MISS MUCH, RIGHT?"
Without warning, Jevil was myseriously gone from his corner. The spamware looked frantically for his target, before being struck in the arm, the leg, and the chest by scythes. Devilsknives. The last knive cut a few strings clean off the puppet, who briefly hit the ground before rising back up.
"SHUT UP! SHUT UP! [Hyperlink Blocked.] I'M STILL HIS LOYAL ASSOCIATE! HE MAY NOT HAVE TALKED TO ME IN [Employee of The Month for 144 months!] BUT HE'S STILL THERE…"
Jevil interrupted him cleanly and concisely. "FACE IT. YOU'RE NO BIG SHOT ANYMORE, SPAMTON G. SPAMTON. ALL YOU ARE IS A FAILED INVESTMENT, UEE HEE HEE!"
With those words, a purple blast came from behind the clown, striking the robot right in the noggin. He flew back a bit, giving the joker enough time to turn around to meet his esteemed guests.
"Ah, my imprisoners~! Didn't you guys have a Queen to rock-em sock-em?"
Susie immediately cut him off, as she punched him in the arm (causing his head to spring up, naturally.) "Well, Kris over here couldn't shake the feeling things were off. So they forced us down here, and now they're right. Somehow?"
"I know I'm right.. Jevil, who the hell is Spamton?" Kris replied, their worry about the situation starting to rise.
"It's of no concern to you~! His screws were almost as loose as mine, and I don't think it's my job to tighten them~! Uee hee hee! Thank you for the help, but I can do anything~! Even tell you guys that 3 coasters are about to come down and force you guys along for the ride~!"
Ralsei immediately stuttered something out. "Three… what?"
And just like that, with a loud rumbling, the heroes were swept up into 3 old, rusty carts, barrelling down the track. Jevil laughed to himself, proud of what he got to do. "Ah well, it's a shame I can't finish him personally…"
"But oh well! Are you proud, proud? They took care of him…"
"Doctor."

We Don’t Talk Anymore ~ OT7 [Request]
↬↬↬Word Count: 1.8K
↬↬↬Genre: Fluff, older brother, tiny angst.
↬↬↬Pairing: Friend!OT7 X Fem!Reader
↬↬↬A/n: Hope this is okay for you sweetie, I know you said when Jungkook is performing but I wanted to change it up a little bit so I hope this is still okay for you
Namjoon found you first you were pacing back and forth in the changing room that had been provided to you,
"You doing okay?" He questioned walking into the room to talk to you but you weren't aware he was there. Your mind was all over the place thinking about going out to perform on the stage with not only all of BTS but your ex-boyfriend Charlie Puth who had ripped your heart apart right on stage and claimed it was fine because the kiss between him and Meghan Trainor was nothing but a kiss between co-workers.
"Shit, Namjoon! Announce when you walk into a room." You groaned clutching your hand over your heart when you turned to see him standing there, he said nothing and just wrapped his arms around you forcing your head to rest against his chest while you did your best not to cry and ruin the makeup the stylist had done for you.
"It's going to crush me Namjoon." You whimpered sitting down on the leather sofa that was inside of your changing room and he sat down beside you rubbing your hand between his to try and comfort you, you'd been close with all of BTS since your collaboration four years ago.
"We'll be right there, we won't let him come near you. Just look at us or the crowd while you sing, just like you practised." They were the only ones other than you and Charlie that knew about the dating and the messy breakup that had happened,
"Five minutes!" You heard someone scream and you shuddered at the thought of going out on the stage in front of all of those people and pretending to be happy about it. You adored performing and you loved all of your fans it was just Charlie's presence that was going to bother you.
"I have to go and calm down Jungkook, come with me and stand with Jin while you wait." Namjoon held out his hand for you to take and you slid your palm into his walking out of the changing room hand in hand and straight into Charlie who was dressed up in a suit and smiling brightly as if performing with you didn't bother him, but of course, it didn't. He didn't care that you had broken up it had always felt like he didn't care about you.
"Hi Y/n." Namjoon pulled you along faster when Charlie tried to talk to you and you mentally thanked him and set a reminder to yourself to buy him a drink after the show was over.
"Where's Kookie?" You questioned Jin who came over to you and Namjoon, you looked over to where Jin was pointing to see a nervous-looking Jungkook sitting in a chair and staring at the floor trying to calm down.
"You'll do great Kook." You reminded him letting go of Namjoon's hand and kneeling down in front of JUngkook who was now staring into your eyes,
"He isn't nervous about performing." You heard Yoongi mumble from behind you and you frowned turning to look at him, he looked pissed off and about ready to rip someones head off.
"What's wrong?" You asked Jungkook turning your attention back to him and making him stare at you, your hand was resting on his cheek and you could have sworn you saw him relax as soon as you did.
"He doesn't want to see Charlie and see red again..." Jimin answered you looking down at the floor.
"HE DID WHAT!?" Jungkook practically screamed jumping up from the table and sending glasses of water flying and ruining most of the food that was sitting for you all.
"Kook, relax." You whispered trying to stop the looks from people inside of the restaurant but he was making a scene about everything.
"No, he's got every right to be like this. I can't believe that fucking guy-" Yoongi was cut short when a waitress came over and started to help clean up the things that Jungkook had knocked over.
"Look...It was a month ago and I'm not bothered anymore." It was the biggest and only lie you'd ever told the boys and Hoseok saw right through it the moment you spoke about it.
"Your nose twitched." You groaned downing a shot glass of Soju and looked at Namjoon for help but he'd already told you he wasn't going to lie to them about this.
"So he just kissed her...on stage in front of everyone and told you it meant nothing?" You nodded at Taehyung's question and you looked down at the shot glass, rolling it around in your hands while you tried to think of something to say to him.
"Their acting isn't great and the whole time they were acting like a couple it felt too real and the kiss...Well, you can see from multiple angles that the kiss was very convincing." Namjoon pulled your head to rest on his shoulder and you broke down into a small sob. The boys had always been protective of you, like older brothers, and now that someone had hurt someone they cared about all they saw was red.
"I'll punch him," Jungkook growled looking at you as he noticed how red your eyes were from crying, you thought you were over it but you clearly weren't and the boys were just as mad about it as you were.
"Guys it was a long time ago-"
"Three months ago..." Jimin told you looking at Jungkook who was gripping onto his microphone so tight that it looked like it was going to snap into two pieces.
"Jungkook. Look at me, all of you look at me." They all looked you in the eyes and you sighed trying to convince them that you were fine and that you were ready for this.
"The song is about you though y/n...Doesn't that bother you?" Taehyung questioned getting ready to get into place and you looked down at the floor.
"It didn't until just then." He groaned running and hugging you before sprinting to get into place.
"3...2...1." The stage manager said as you and Jungkook got into place just in time. Jungkook was sitting in the chair while you stood behind him in a floor-length silk gown. The microphones were switched on so you were no longer allowed to talk, only look at one another with knowing looks.
The stage slowly started to raise up and you held steady onto the chair while singing into your white microphone,
"We don't talk anymore, we don't talk anymore We don't talk anymore, like we used to do," The stage was set and you and Jungkook began walking further into the middle to meet Charlie at the small keyboard he was playing from,
"We don't love anymore. What was all of it for? Oh, we don't talk anymore, like we used to do." You held the note and then Charlie and Jungkook began singing more to one another while you smiled at all the correct cameras looking at Jungkook whenever you needed mental support that everything was okay.
"Ooh, it's such a shame, That we don't talk anymore..." The final note ended with you and you smiled as people in the venue began to clap and whistle for you all. You and Jungkook hugged and when Charlie came to hug you Jungkook stepped in the way giving him a bro hug but you knew he secretly wanted to punch him.
"Give it up for Y/n Y/l/n and BTS!" The rest of the stage began to rise and Namjoon began rapping his lines to fake Love, you walked over to him and stood by his side while he did so winking when he finished his lines and it moved onto Hoseok.
As soon as the last note was done on stage and the lights went to black you kicked off your heels and sprinted in the direction of your changing room not looking back at any of them when they called your name.
"Stay out of it!" Yoongi yelled at Charlie when he tried to follow them all after you, Jungkook was carrying your shoes and Namjoon was holding the microphone you had pushed into his chest before running away.
"I just want to see if she's okay-"
"She's fine no thanks to you," Taehyung said looking at Charlie who stumbled backwards feeling the hostility radiating from them as he continued following them back to your changing room. The door was shut and you were sitting in front of it crying into your knees trying not to make too much noise because you could hear them all outside.
"Look whatever she told you wasn't true," You heard Charlie try to defend and you scoffed getting up from the floor and wrapping your arms around yourself as he tried to spit lies to them about you.
"It was just a kiss, nothing else. Me and Meghan we're just close friends." You heard a grunt before a gasp and you threw the door open to see Yoongi standing there holding his hand while someone bent down checking on Charlie who was holding his nose in pain.
"Yoongi?!" You panicked looking at him and then to his hand, they wall walked into your changing room and you took his hand in yours turning it over to look at it and make sure he was okay.
"Fuck Yoongi, I can't believe you punched him," Jimin said looking at Charlie who was being taken away by first aiders on the set, you stared at Yoongi like he was crazy.
"Are you trying to get bad press?!" He stared at you sadly and you knew why he'd done it but it still didn't make the situation any better. He couldn't tell people he'd punched him because he had cheated on you in the past since no one had even known about you and Charlie dating before.
"We'll figure something out, in the meantime, you need to apologise," Namjoon told him taking charge of the situation and planning to set everything right as soon as possible.
"I'll get some ice for your hand," Jungkook said leaving the room and you quickly told Jin to follow him just in case Charlie was near again and he needed stopping just as much as Yoongi did.
"He won't come near you again," Yoongi mumbled as you sat him down on the sofa, you sat on the coffee table in front of him and thanked him for ''defending your honour.''
"The next time you want to act like an older brother can you buy me dinner first?" You quizzed trying to make the situation lighter and he chuckled promising you he would buy dinner that night as soon as everything was cleared over and you could all leave the venue.

Conversation
RP meme from Scream Queens Ep 10 "Thanksgiving"
Listen. I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but I don't think I can bone you right now.
My wanger is way stressed out.
I've killed for our love.
I just gave her a little push.
You and I can pick up right where we left off.
You can bring me home for Thanksgiving and introduce me to my future in-laws.
What did you do with the body?
I put it in the meat locker. It's where we've been putting all the dead bodies.
I need to see the body.
Look, we can have a three-way with the body.
I'll show you the body, but not so you can have sex with it.
I'll show it to you so that you and I will share a dangerous secret that will strengthen our relationship and bring us closer together.
I don't understand how this keeps happening!
Is this meat locker, like, a wormhole to an alternate universe or something?
She'll probably stop at nothing until she gets her revenge by murdering you.
No one wants to spend a room service Thanksgiving alone.
Are you going to talk at all?
You shouldn't be mad at me.
We're the sane ones.
Now, I know you've got other plans today, and for alibi's sake we need to protect your cover, but I am not letting you leave on an empty stomach.
Is that what quail is? I thought they were bigger.
You know what I was picturing? Pheasant.
Time to slice off those breasts.
I feel like this holiday is all about family, and, well, as you know, I gave up on my real family a long time ago.
I mean, at this point, the closest thing I have to family is. . . you.
I understand that Thanksgiving is supposed to be about family and being together and thanking God that we were born rich in America and not in Uganda or Venezuela or any of those other African countries.
You're late. The game's just about to start.
What do you think would happen if those instructions were incorrect?
This family's fortune is built on being right on time.
There's nothing better than sitting together as a family, watching the game. Laughing, smiling, just enjoying the warmth of each other's company. That's what it's all about today. Togetherness.
I hate defrosted food.
Why is it called Italian Style Chicken Cacciatore? All chicken cacciatore is Italian style.
This is not what Thanksgiving is supposed to be.
A bunch of my sort-of friends have been killed and no one has asked me about it.
Oh. And I'm starting a new family tradition. It involves me never coming to any family occasions ever again.
Would you stop with the screaming?
It's more like a stay of execution until no one is looking.
I've never cooked before, but that should be fine, since I usually just pretend to eat.
Well, I can cook and eat for the both of us.
So we've decided to have an orphans Thanksgiving all together.
I mean, I guess you could come over here if you wanted.
And this year I'm so thankful for the lax indecency laws in Eastern Europe that inundate our Internet with millions of hours of hard-core porn.
You know, ever since I was a little boy, I knew what God wanted me to do and that was make money off the backs of creative people.
I am so thankful that he, for whatever reason, has not murdered me yet.
You have such a vast future ahead of you.
You'll meet so many new and different women. So many wonderful women to go out with and break up with and move on from.
You should be thankful that this table is too long for me to reach across and strangle you, bitch!
What are you doing here? How are you alive?
When I woke up and regained consciousness, I felt better than ever.
The only thing you're carrying is water weight, you bloated little tramp.
I have a little game to play that's gonna make the time fly right by.
No, I've never killed anyone as far as I know.
Okay, there is no evidence at all that mass murder is genetic.
I would say that is more than a little suspicious.
I have bathroom shame issues. I always wait until everyone is asleep and then I sneak down to poop in the little powder room downstairs.
I mean, don't we all agree that those babies are the killers?
That seems like an unnecessarily complicated cover story.
I think we have plenty here to go to the police.
What, are you drunk?
You know, the one time I call you for a little advice, you're hammered.
I suppose we should discuss the matter of payment.
I'm asking you to name your price.
Are you propositioning me?
No, I'm asking how much money it'll take to make you go away.
My family is super-gross rich.
That outfit screams desperation.
I am, however, willing to write you a check for $50,000 if you will leave now and never come back.
It's a lot of money for a family like yours.
What is the best part about Thanksgiving?
Tastes like Henry VIII just barfed in my mouth.
Well, I don't want to sound like a dick here, but have you ever considered maybe you should leave?
I brought some of my famous eight-meat stuffing. It's beef, venison, alligator, buffalo, rabbit, goat, rattlesnake and Spam. I cut all of the meats super thin, so that you're guaranteed every meat in every bite.
I thought you said you were leaving forever or something like that?
Have you ever even cracked open a book?
You did say just the other day that the only way to live is to play the long game.
I really hope you can come up with something better than that.
I can prove that you're the only person in this room we know for a fact is a murderer.
I saw you in the coffee shop the other day, reading one of your old Playgirl magazines.
Okay, look, there's just some stuff that doesn't add up.
Look, I've gone through all the suspects in my mind, and I can explain away all my suspicions for everyone except you.
Can we just talk this out, so you can help me see that I'm wrong?
I mean, it would fit in with your whole hard worker, let's find out the truth, never take no for an answer, awful personality.
Anything to redeem your beloved dead mother.
I can't rest when the killer's still out there, so I stayed behind to do some more research.
You're skinny and pretty, so that's a plus, but it's highly competitive, so you'd better be rich, too.
You know how at the beginning of the year, I was always secretly following you so I could just keep an eye on you, make sure you were safe?
I heard you talking to someone, but I couldn't hear what it was about.
Thank you for letting me talk about this, talk this out, and hear your side of the story.
Um, homely, ugly.
Gold digger! Not welcome.
No, no, too chunky to wear that outfit.
I'm fairly certain this board game's been tampered with.
And while my motivations were airtight and my conscience clear, still, I'm sorry.
I mean, no one deserves to be spoken to like that, particularly not by what is, without a doubt, the most awful family in America.
I've honestly seen more tasteful decor at a Sizzler.
And you, sir, give the kind, hard-working, deeply moral people who work in such a wonderful industry as Hollywood a bad name.
I am walking out that door and never speaking to you again.
How could such a stud evolve from a boy who was so clearly a douche?
Oh, please, look, I-I was so bombed at that party. I mean, I remember I puked while I was making out with some girl, but there is no way that I could've found my way back down there 20 minutes later, let alone 20 years.
This is really embarrassing, um, but I started the paleo diet, because I'm back on the dating scene now, and I-I wanted to lose some weight.
I never saw a body down there.
I-I was a bit of a man slut back in the day, and it was the '90s, so nobody wore condoms.
I'm obligated to take it to the police.
What are you gonna do with the money?
didn't take the money, idiot.
Okay, first of all, I experienced extreme emotional trauma this evening, and second, I'm the one delegating tasks, thank you very much.
I couldn't find any matches.
I was sharpening this knife.
You haven't eaten yet, have you? I knew it!
You've come back. You've chosen me over your awful family.
First of all, my family is awesome. How dare you?
So, without further ado, dinner is served.

sherlock holmes reactions part 4 (?) ive lost count already but unsurprisingly ive grown even more attached to him
using this as the cover image because i made him a playlist. cause im awful
no legit this is gonna need a read more because it's SO LONG SHIHEWIESHEFSHIEWHF
Had three mental breakdowns this week and realized i do in fact kin sherlock motherfucking holmes. this does not bode well for anything in my life mentally I've diagnosed him with so many things
Oh boy lol you want the list I think hes autistic (undisputed honestly) plus also adhd but on top of that there's the manic depression and uhhh the bpd lmao I dont even think that's it those are just. the obvious ones
But yeah man's a fucking mess and a shit person but in the same way as me so 👍
Some highlights I thought were very funny:
watson: we are in fact going to be waltzing into a place where people are Shooting People you do not have your gun. this is a problem
sherlock: don't worry watson I have my trusty stick!
watson: visible pain
This clearly happens like every day or so with them
but yeah there were some really honestly sweet scenes with them at the apartment and why am i getting soft over the crusty man being gay
have you considered tho. have you considered them
have you considered sherlock, who usually only plays absolute garbage on his violin serenading watson to sleep when he was tired and in pain and watson being so fucking in love with the man and waxing poetic about falling asleep to his music and waking up to see him fallen asleep on the couch next to him and oh my god them
They're just really sweet together for such a completely dysfunctional couple so much of the time lol I just. Sherlock being like.
Sherlock half of the time: watson you're fucking stupid. no i won't take care of my personal needs stfu. watson get a goddamn life. watson shut up. watson no one cares about your goddamn opinion. no i need to disturb you in the middle of the night it's for science. hey watson mind if i manipulate mansplain malewife
Sherlock the other half of the time: HELLO SIR YOU ARE MY FAVORITE MAN TO EVER MAN HELLO MAY I SPEND THE REST OF MY DAYS WITH YOU HELLO I WILL DO ANYTHING FOR YOU WE ARE PERFECT MATCHES I LOVE YOU AND I NEED YOU YOURE SO MUCH BETTER THAN ME PLEASE MARRY ME
They're... they certainly are.
ALSO OH MY GOD.
THIS ONE TIME WHEN SHERLOCK WAS JUST PACING AROUND THE ROOM AT 3 AM GOING "IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE >:(((" AND HUDSON LIKE BARGED IN TO COMPLAIN AND THEN WATSON WAS LIKE DUDE YOU GOTTA STOP DOING THIS AND PROCEEDS TO SAY THE LINE "YOU ARE KNOCKING YOURSELF UP, OLD MAN"
BAHGHSFHGRHEWHEWHIFEW
BRB SOBBING
CALLING HIM AN OLD MAN???? KNOCKING HIMSELF UP?? I DONT KNOW WHATS FUNNIER
The main highlight of this part was I have now gotten to see him have a great time watching his homo homie get married
Its so fucking funny.......
I was prepared for a funny reaction by yuumori sherlock's face when he said it lol but. Damn i was really not prepared tbh
watson: I'm engaged!
sherlock: *pained groaning*
watson: do you... not like her?
sherlock: no she's fine she's great you'll be wonderful together bUT I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE ARE HETEROSEXUAL WATSON DO I HAVE TO MARRY MYSELF THEN WATSON? ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE ME MARRY MYSELF.
watson: yeah... yeah... fair, I feel really bad because you did this whole case and I got a girlfriend out of it and all you got was me leaving you alone fuck man im sorry what are you gonna do without me
sherlock, highly sarcastic: dont worry watson I've always got my handy cocaine! *pulls it out and gets high in front of watson just as he's about to leave*
watson: *in fucking agony*
sherlock: good for you!
I DONT EVEN- THIS SCENE KILLED ME MULTIPLE TIMES OVER WHAT
ITS SO GODDAMN NONCHELANT ABOUT IT SHERLOCK IS JUST LIKE YEAH I WILL IN FACT NOT BE MENTALLY HEALTHY IF YOU ARE NOT WITH ME 24/7 BUT WHATEVER YOU DO YOU /S
I'd like to apologize to watson on sherlock's behalf lmao. man is being a bit too codependent on main
The last thing about sign of four I do need to address is yeah, there's the Horrific Amounts Of Racism in that one and the whiplash hearing it is just ridiculous because they seem to be so knowledgeable in all other areas and fairly... politically correct, taking sherlock's original misogyny as a purposeful character flaw, but then they just mention someone indigenous once and suddenly its all parrotting racist propaganda and just... really awful shit. There's no way I'm gonna speak for the group that just got absolutely hate crimed here but anyone can tell the author just has no clue what he's fucking talking about and it's physically painful.
And I don't know, it's just so bad it seems out of character? Doyle's making these motherfuckers say shit that honestly, Sherlock would know better about. And especially Watson. Come on, you cannot tell me watson is mentally capable of being prejudiced against someone. Please do not make him that way.
I'm not sure how to handle it specifically, or what's the proper way I should handle something like that in a media I otherwise like. Is it ok to say Doyle was clearly a piece of shit on the matter and separate those characters from his bias or is that insensitive?
I don't know, I was Not a fan of it and I'm glad to see they've at least finally shut up about the guy
But anyway yeah, uhhhh onto the short stories because I'm trying to read those before I get to the final problem
Scandal in Bohemia was a fucking ride, first of all, before we even get to Sherlock's girlboss arc we have to discuss how gay the whole situation was and how Doyle's attempt at making them less gay failed spectacularly
Like he's all "ah yes I need to marry off watson and uhhh make sherlock ummmm interact with a woman so they dont look gay" but he does it SO BADLY that it makes them look EVEN GAYER
cause i mean, even the conversation they had about watson getting married back in sign of four was gay af, but how Doyle handled things afterward was in no way straighter.
Cause you know, the man kind of wrote himself into a corner with the fact of Watson narrating these stories. So Watson has to be around to witness them, and to witness Sherlock's own thought process rather privately, so he has to be around sherlock at night, a lot. But trying to come up with a reason for that happening just... it didn't occur to Doyle. He just went. Ah yes this makes sense. And it's Watson just like Sleeping Over At Sherlock's like every other goddamn day and every time his wife leaves town and having them basically still live that cute domestic home life but they have absolutely no excuses for doing it anymore. It's quite funny
Like it was gay already the way they interacted when they officially lived together but it was like, a necessity for them. Now it's not, Watson just comes over because he goddamn wants to, and it's hilarious to me.
LIKE IDK I THINK THEY KIND OF BROKE UP FOR A YEAR OR SO BC OF WATSON GETTING MARRIED AND THEY LIKE DONT HAVE CONTACT WITH ONE ANOTHER BUT ONE DAY WATSON JUST INEXPLICABLY HAS THE URGE TO COME VISIT SHERLOCK ON NO NOTICE AND THEN SUDDENLY THEY ARE TOGETHER NEAR 24/7 AGAIN LIKE BARELY ANYTHING CHANGED AHIEHOEWH
SIT DOWN AND TRY TO TELL ME THOSE ARE NOT HOMOSEXUALS
Watson walks in on no fucking notice after a full year and Sherlock is just. In the middle of some experiment obviously but hes like
Sherlock, carrying around unidenfiable chemical mixtures: W A T S O N you look good you look good! i see you've gained seven pounds!!
watson: uh. thanks??? Hey lol *awkwardly waves* Uh um Wanted to Uhm sEe you
Sherlock: ABOUT gODDAMN TIME AND YES WONDERFUL LOOK LOOK SIT DOWN I HAVE THINGS TO INFODUMP ABOUT
watson: :) ok :) *turns to camera* and we were back to the old days
sherlock: makes a deduction
watson: wowwwwwwwwwwww !! so true bestie !!
sherlock: !!!!!!!!! :))) !!!!! :))) uh fuck im supposed to be smooth Its Elementary Lol
watson: *turns to camera* when i stroke his ego like this and compliment him he blushes like a girl like i just complimented his dress so i do it more because he likes it. this is a homie trait
watson: well i should probably get going! my wife will notice that i am gone my dear buddy bro homie!
sherlock: NO DONT LEAVE IM LOST WITHOUT YOU (pretty much a direct quote lol) your. wife doesn't. get back home until monday. I know this because I am smart and definitely have not been stalking you.
watson: alright :)))))
AND THEN HE FUCKING SLEEPS OVER LMAO FUCKING HOMOS
So yeah they're right back where they were before pretty much and there's a case bc of course there is
And honestly I think this short story specifically was so insane mostly just because of how absolutely fast it all went. Yuumori kind of made me believe the original Irene Adler was more of an important character than she really is? And I think that's. Honestly so funny. Motherfucker shows up for ten pages, girlbosses her way around town, and changes sherlock's entire opinion of the female gender while still keeping him gay?
LIKE NO LOL SHES NOT IN ANY WAY A LOVE INTEREST AND WATSON GOES OUT OF HIS WAY TO SPECIFY THE FACT THAT IN NO WORLD WOULD THEY HAVE BEEN ROMANTICALLY INVOLVED BECAUSE. SHERLOCK. DIDN'T DATE WOMEN.
HE WAS JUST??? SO IMPRESSED AND SHELL SHOCKED BY HER EXISTENCE HE DECIDED IT WAS TIME FOR GIRLBOSS APPRECIATION DAY TODAY AND ALL DAYS HENCEFORTH???
AND THEY HAVE LIKE O N E INTERACTION?? God, the power this woman(?) has. Watson looks at her once like. damb shawty 😳 and she's like "no<3" and he's like FUCK
Like yeah it's pretty much just the king walking up like "help girl the whore is blackmailing me" and sherlock being like "ok lol this will be easy" and then it proceeded to not in fact be easy or even possible
sherlock like... posed as a dead body and tried to get her to give up the location of the photo but she out-acted him and skipped the town the next day after doing the 'good night mr. sherlock holmes' thing with sherlock completely tricked
and she just. sends a letter like "dear sherlock holmes. you're a fucking idiot and i think it's funny that you lost. nice job tho mad respect" and sherlock just SHORT CIRCUITS
the king comes back a bit later like "hey Dude where's my Photo" and sherlock's like oh yeah uhhhhhhhhhhh about that and the king is like HOW COULD IT POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN THAT GODDAMN HARD i would have dated someone more noble if she wasn't so pretty i swear im on a whole different level from her
and then. GIRLBOSSIFIED SHERLOCK HOLMES RESPONDS "from what I have seen of the lady, she seems indeed to be on a very different level from your majesty" ABSEHHESHEFHHFES ROASTED
and the dude just LEAVES
After that I read a few more of the short stories and well the highlights I got from that pretty much were these conversations
Watson: sherlock. honey. have you. eaten anything today
Sherlock: IT DIDNT OCCUR TO ME DEAR WATSON
Watson: ITS FIVE PM
and:
Sherlock: *having one of his Moment Moments at three in the goddamn mornig* GRRRR CRIME ISNT WHAT IT USED TO BE
Watson: MY DEAR SHERCOCK WHAT IS CRIME S U P P O S E D TO BE LIKE ACCORDING TO YOU
Sherlock: no one's original anymore fucking copycats
Watson: so you want the criminals to make things harder for you specifically.
Sherlock, exasperated: yes!
I love them your honor.

Should Auld Acquaintance be Forgot
Honestly, Emma was less mad about the whole thing than she expected. Disappointed, that was the word. And everyone knew that disappointed was far worse than mad.
Because being dateless on New Year’s Eve was one thing. Being dateless while pining over a roommate with a secret Match.com profile and apparent relationship-type desires that were the complete opposite of her was—
Disappointing, really.
If Killian kissed anybody, she was going to drink an entire bottle of champagne by herself.
-----
Rating: Teen, kissing, far too many Grinch references
Word Count: 9.2K
AN: Today is our last festive prompt! Or, at least one that’s a stand-alone story. Our said prompts come from @kmomof4 who asked for “i don't wanna get up-- you're comfy."// "i'm cold. come closer." //"i love you a lot, but please stop trying to cook me dinner, you suck.” And I got all three in. As always, I cannot thank you guys enough for clicking and reading and saying such nice things. Here’s to a 2021 that’s full of even more fic, satisfying TV storylines and lots of fictional characters making out.
Also on Ao3 if that’s your jam
-----
“Shit.”
“Merry Christmas.”
Rolling her eyes over the top of the phone in her hand, Ruby didn’t look particularly amused at the distinct lack of enthusiasm in Emma’s voice. That was something of a theme. For like—the last thirty-six hours, but also the majority of their relationship, and none this should have come as a surprise, only she’d had a lot of wine in the last forty-six minutes, and it might have been catching up with her. Was definitely catching up with her.
“How much did you pay for the garbage alcohol you’ve been shoving at me?” Emma asked archly, and she was only slightly worried about getting home. Her head felt muddled. Like there were too many thoughts, and this time of year always did that to her brain, and her consciousness, and at least eighty-two percent of this was Mary Margaret’s fault.
For deciding that they were going to have a party.
On New Year’s Eve.
Like complete cliches.
“I’ll have you know,” Ruby drawled, eyes dropping back to her phone and whatever noise it was making, “that I paid at least twelve dollars for—”
“—Lies,” Elsa yelled, and it was a testament their current situation that she’d raised her voice at all. Nothing like that ever happened, and the overall roll rate of Ruby’s eyes was going to give her a migraine.
Her phone made another noise.
“She’s lying to you,” Elsa added. “Straight to your face.”
She’d still be staring down a dateless New Year’s Eve, but—
Emma scrunched her nose. “What else is new?”
“Oh, I take offense to that,” Ruby cried, but she was almost too obviously distracted, and the inability of this conversation to be concise was starting to grate on Emma’s nerves. Or what remained of them. Maybe she was the Grinch.
No, that wasn’t right. The Grinch had an enlarged heart, which Emma certainly did not have — and that was nice and appropriately festive for the season, the Grinch, not her, and he had a dog. Emma didn’t have a dog. If she had a dog, there was no possible way she’d be annoyed as she was.
Whatever, honestly.
Her date, or lack thereof, was not important, and she was going to drink this entire bottle of Barefoot Moscato, price tag be damned, and then she was going to figure out some way to get home. Without falling over.
Also, the Grinch didn’t have a roommate. Unless you counted the dog, and Emma didn’t think Max could conceivably hold so many titles in a twenty-two minute animated Christmas special, and she imagined the Grinch was also not pining after his dog slash roommate slash stand-in reindeer. That’d be weird.
For a twenty-two minute animated Christmas special.
She’d never seen the Jim Carey version. Or that other one with Benedict whatever-his-name-is.
Away from dating apps and wine that was very likely going to give her one hell of a headache, and Killian would at least make sure she was vaguely hydrated before she collapsed on some sort of horizontal surface. She wasn’t going to be picky about which one, honestly.
“Why are there so many versions of the Grinch?”
Ruby didn’t look at her. Her eyebrows moved, though. Lifted ever so slightly into her hairline, and Elsa’s glance wasn’t exactly subtle, and Emma needed to go home.
“Expand on that for me,” Ruby said, lips twisted as soon as she stopped talking. Something was wrong. Well, more wrong. In an alcohol-saturated sort of way that included all those previously discussed mobile dating apps.
“There are so many Grinches,” Emma said. “You think that’s a commentary on society? Like as a whole? That we need to—”
“—Embrace the spirit of Christmas?”
“Because we as a general population are all assholes?”
“You’ve had too much wine.”
“Not a question,” Elsa mumbled, elbow bumping Emma’s shoulder when she perched on the edge of the sofa, and Ruby’s eyes were still doing that thing. Widening every now and then — a flash of understanding mixing in with surprise, and Emma wasn’t sure how many muscles were in a human thumb, but she figured all of Ruby’s were getting quite a workout, scrolling as quickly as they were.
“If I have,” Emma muttered, “it is entirely Ruby’s fault. Who buys pink Moscato and expects their guests not to drink the whole bottle?”
“Seems to suggest you’re a guest, though,” Ruby said, “and that’s awfully prim and proper.”
Ruby couldn’t possibly be Cindy Lou Who in this metaphor.
Emma couldn’t argue with that. Mostly because she’d drank so much of the pink Moscato. “Ok, ok, forget the wine for two seconds. And the Grinch. Why were you making proclamations before? They were very loud and—”
Nothing changed. The phone was still there — wobbling slightly because it seemed Ruby’s forearm strength was lacking just a bit, but the screen didn’t change, and Emma was certain this was somehow also Taylor Swift’s fault. For rerecording Love Story and letting Ryan Reynolds use it in that Match.com ad.
“So…”
Although really that made it more Scooter whatever-his-last-name-was’s fault, for stealing all of Taylor Swift’s songs and being a noted and massive dick, and Emma’s inability to remember anyone’s last name was clearly something of a personality failing.
“Thoughts?” Ruby pressed.
At least twelve-thousand, but none of them seemed especially interested in being said out loud, and Emma’s tongue felt like it was simultaneously growing and dissolving in her mouth. None of it was particularly comfortable, what legitimately felt like cotton balls bursting out of her cheeks and making it difficult to breathe, and she should have lived in a cave. With her dog and the inexplicable set of antlers she owned to make that same dog look like a reindeer, and then she wouldn’t have to be staring at Killian Jones’ dating profile on goddamn Match.com eight days before a New Year’s Eve party she only marginally wanted to attend.
“Don’t people just use Tinder now?”
Emma’s voice did not sound like her own. Presumably because of the tongue thing and the cotton ball analogy, and she wondered if the Uber driver she was inevitably going to request would be especially annoyed by her desire to blast Taylor Swift in the backseat.
She’d give them five stars.
No matter what — because she wasn’t an asshole, but especially if they let Emma blast Taylor Swift in the backseat.
Ruby rolled her eyes. “You’re very old; you know that?”
Her face was very warm.
“Buy me better wine.”
Emma had never gone into cardiac arrest before, but the sinking feeling in her chest was sudden and a little jarring and she tried very hard to swallow down the wad of emotion currently taking up residence in the middle of her throat. Didn’t work.
“Only nine bucks, honestly?”
Failed spectacularly, quite honestly.
“I don’t want to know,” she announced. “Whatever he put on there is his—”
“What Killian does or doesn’t do in the world of modern dating has nothing to do with me,” Emma said, only a little disappointed because she didn’t think people got multiple miracles in their lives and to having hers ensure her voice didn’t shake over those particular words in that particular order felt lame.
“I don’t care.”
All things considered.
Scrunching her nose, Ruby’s nod lacked a certain sense of honesty. “Sure, sure, sure, well—” She shrugged. “—He’s here. Being available. Presumably for New Year’s, and…”
Emma waited for the rest. All the reasons she’d heard before, and her friends were convinced. Something about inevitable, and happily ever after, but that second part was mostly Mary Margaret and it was likely easier to believe in the fairy tale when you were living it.
Pessimism was also fairly lame. As far as defining traits went.
“What are you—” Elsa started, but then she was moving and her teeth clicked exactly five times, as soon as she looked at the screen, and Emma was not capable of dealing with any of this. Watching her friends gape at her, Ruby’s phone still held loosely in her hand, and neither one of them objected when she finally managed to get to her feet.
And the Uber driver didn’t offer to play any Taylor Swift, but Emma didn’t ask and she didn’t blast it in the backseat.
So, that felt like a victory. Which she desperately needed — to counteract the state of her pancreas and half a dozen other internal organs when her thumb hovered over the button, and it took at least two minutes and twelve seconds for Match.com to download.
She should have waited until she was on wifi.
To say that Emma’s relationship with Killian Jones was complicated would be something of an understatement. And she wouldn’t use the word relationship.
He was her friend.
Her very good looking friend, with stupid eyes that regularly flashed at her like he was too aware of the mush-like state it sent her into, and he was friends with her brother, and once upon a time she’d briefly considered hating him, but that never really stuck and he made hot chocolate better than anyone she knew. Refused to use the prepackaged mix. Did something on the oven that Emma didn’t entirely understand, and never trusted herself to try on her own, and Killian was never late with his half of the rent.
Or any of the utilities.
Living together was a decision born of convenience and the extra room Killian had once Will moved out, but it also made a lot of sense and it was good. Really good. Would have been great if Emma wasn’t pining after him and his stupid eyes like some lovelorn idiot, but she had gotten almost impossibly good at rationalizing the whole thing in the last few years, and—
“Shit, shit, shit,” she chanted, slumped in the corner of the couch with her knees threatening to impale her chin and there must have been a record for frustrated cursing while staring at a roommate's dating profile. She’d definitely passed it, like, seven minutes ago.
Scrolling down only led to scrolling back up, twisting her lower lip between her teeth while staring at photos and lists and options she was sure came from some AI or relationship-type algorithm and coming to terms with the end of the world was harder than she expected it to be.
At least the end of her love life.
Of which there wasn’t much to begin with, so it probably wasn’t very hard for the whole thing to topple over, but Emma was feeling especially melodramatic and they needed to buy some WD-40. For their very squeaky door.
“Hey,” Killian said, shrugging out of his jacket and it was apparently snowing out. Flakes dusted his shoulder, clung to several strands of hair, and Emma couldn’t melt into the couch. They couldn’t afford to buy another one. “That can’t be good for your spine.”
Humming, Killian didn’t bother brushing the snow out of his hair before he walked forward, falling onto the other end of the couch and pulling Emma’s sock-covered feet into his lap. “Are they any cookies left?”
“I’m going to tell Mary Margaret you’re a cookie glutton and—”
Sixteen guys had messaged her already.
“So I’ve heard. Whatcha you doing?”
Maybe that was a compliment. Emma didn’t think so, though.
She couldn’t believe she had to make a profile. To stalk her roommate. And his interests. There were a lot of interests on Killian’s Match.com profile.
Strictly speaking, she didn’t have much experience with shoulders and their proclivity to being rested on, but she liked to believe Killian’s was one of the more comfortable out there. Her head fit very well, at least.
“Nothing.”
So as to avoid any lingering after-effects from its continued failure.
“I’ve got twenty-seven bucks on him asking at the party,” Killian said, “but Locksley thinks he’s just going to lose any sense of self-control and blurt it out before, I just—”
Emma’s phone dinged.
Again. Multiple times, in quick succession — and she should have turned off notifications for that stupid app, but she wasn’t really using it for its intended purpose and Killian was staring at her. With a look that made it all too clear he knew what was going on.
That didn’t make her feel any better.
“Ruby said she was thinking about bringing someone,” he muttered, “to, uh—to the thing. The New Year’s thing.”
The air shifted. Crackled with electricity Emma knew she was imagining, and want she was only barely managing to temper and if Will did propose to Belle on New Year’s Eve she refused to be held accountable for her emotional reaction. She’d totally cry.
“Call it a thing again.”
Ruby would never let her hear the end of that.
Shaking his head brusquely, Killian’s grip tightened around Emma’s ankle. She had no idea he was holding her ankle — fingers wrapped all the way around the joint until the tips threatened to touch because apparently his fingers were that long, and she’d probably only obsess about that for like the next few years, or so. Which seemed reasonable.
“Anyone good?” he asked, low and gruff and whatever was back in the middle of her throat did not appear intent on leaving any time soon. No matter how many times Emma swallowed.
Or how often Killian’s eyes flickered. Towards her throat.
The idea never even crossed her mind, honestly.
Flinching the way she did only guaranteed that Emma’s spine collided with the arm of their couch, but she was at least less inclined to melt and she supposed romantic beggars could not be choosers. “Yuh huh,” she said, “and you’re well acquainted with the noises and the reasons behind the noise?”
That probably wasn’t important.
And just like that—it was fine. Well, maybe not fine, but at last fine adjacent, and something inching closer to normal, and Killian kissed her temple again before he stood up.
“You’re avoiding my question.”
She didn’t pick up her phone until she went to bed, dragging every blanket they owned behind her down the hallway.
On the ever-growing list of problems Emma had during a week when problems were supposed to be non-existent, Killian's Match.com profile had very easily cemented itself at the top of the list.
It didn’t match — her, at least. Every single thing he was apparently looking for in some sort of potential life partner was the exact opposite of every single thing that made Emma her. Musical tastes were diametrically opposed, movies she’d never once seen him watch in the legitimate decades she’d known him were praised with the kind of adjectives even Robert Ebert would scoff at. The pictures were good, but Emma knew that was more a result of her attraction to her roommate than anything else, and he said he liked people who cooked.
She couldn’t cook.
She tried.
Twenty-four hours after the weird couch incident, which was a name only Emma was using, she was sure, and the smoke alarm had gone off and—
This was Ruby’s fault. And Taylor Swift. Whose new album was very good, and made for perfect and consistent pining music.
She was so disappointed she was positive she reeked with it.
“Cooking,” Emma said, like that was an explanation and not an excuse and she was definitely using too many of her personal miracles. “Nothing caught on fire!”
Lolling his head to the side, Killian leveled her with an exasperated expression. Brows pinched together and that shade of blue wasn’t quite as sharp, but was still somehow almost amused and she didn’t think the oven was supposed to make that noise. It was very loud. “Lack of flames is not a sign of success, love,” he said, “and it’s—ah, fuck.”
The smoke alarm was louder than the oven.
Blasting through their apartment and, Emma was sure, through the entire building, the beep hit its rhythmic stride quickly, so she reacted like an adult to the whole situation by gritting her teeth and squeezing her eyes shut. Killian breezed by her, swinging open another squeaky door and fumbling through what sounded like several dozen boxes and he cursed. More than once.
Emma nodded.
Emma cracked open one eye. “We do, I—”
Their neighbors must hate them. Rightfully so.
“We definitely own a broom,” she promised, “we’re not savages. We clean.”
Graham was probably very nice.
“Was there a reason for that?”
Emma swallowed. Still didn’t help.
“Swan.”
“Alright,” Killian said softly, “c’mere.”
Saying that what happened next happened quicker than Emma expected it to, also suggested that Emma expected it to happen at all, which was one of the bigger lies she’d told in the last week or so, and she was really growing a metric shit ton of lies, so that was especially impressive and she yelped very loudly. As soon as hands gripped her hips, lifting her off the floor and directing her underneath the questionably loud smoke detector.
“This could wake the dead,” she proclaimed, shouting the words because if they were going to descend into total farce, then she was really going to lean into it.
Killian’s head fell to her stomach. If she died right there, she hoped he didn’t drop her. Although, she’d also be dead, so—she probably wouldn’t notice.
“Just turn it off, love.”
She hated all that music.
“See,” he grunted, “that makes it sound like we don’t have a broom, and—” Adjusting her, one of her legs twisted around his, something Emma was going to claim as instinct and not that same want that was another one of her more defining characteristics, and he definitely exhaled. Loudly. And directly into her t-shirt. “—Swan, I really need you to fix this, love.”
Using his shoulder as leverage, and keeping her leg exactly where it was, she still had to stretch her arm out and it took far more movement than either one of them could apparently handle silently for her to press the button that fixed everything.
Despised The Godfather, on some sort of fundamental level and Kay deserved better than Michael Corleone, even if that version of Al Pacino was almost kind of attractive, but—
Relatively speaking, at least.
He didn’t lift his head immediately. Or drop her. That probably wasn’t a metaphor.
Emma’s metaphors regularly sucked, anyway.
“Pizza or Chinese?”
Chuckling into her stomach, Killian’s laugh warmed her from the inside out and kept the goosebumps there and she’d kind of forgotten he was shirtless. Idiot bastard, that was her.
Graham Humbert had owned more plaid shirts than anyone Emma had ever seen.
“Order extra egg rolls, and I’m in,” Killian said, finally working her back to the ground and they didn’t move. They stood there. Staring at each other, and conducting more inventory, and Emma could only imagine the penance she’d have to do for keeping her stomach in its correct spot.
“Deal.”
“She’s in love with him.”
“Which part?” Ruby asked. “How in love Emma is with Jones or whether or not we were acknowledging his shitty dating profile?”
“Doesn’t have to,” Elsa muttered over the top of her half-empty glass. “It basically broadcasts out of her.”
They took the batteries out of the smoke detector a day later.
“Either or, I guess.”
Not the safest thing they’d ever done, but Emma kept trying to cook and failing spectacularly and she was certain the people at the Chinese restaurant fourteen blocks away knew their order based solely on the sound of her voice when she called.
“Does this have a name?”
Slumped as she was over the edge of the bar, Emma barely noticed the lift in Killian’s eyebrows, but that also might have been her tendency to be preoccupied with his mouth and he was smiling at her. Wide. Meaningful—ly.
Distractingly.
At some point that afternoon, she’d decided she needed to respond to Graham’s messages. Or, well—keep responding. There’d been some conversation, what might have been construed as flirting if Emma’s thumbs didn’t keep cramping up while they flew across her phone’s keyboard, but that definitely wasn’t a sign either, and the overall lightness in her body was likely a direct result of whatever blue-colored alcoholic concoction Killian had put in front of her forty-seven minutes before. There were gummy—things floating in it.
Or there had been.
She’d eaten them.
Her mouth felt a little numb.
“What do you think we should call it?”
Propping her chin on her hand made Emma wobble a bit, Killian’s lips twitching again. Idiot bastard asshole. Poor Graham. She was a jerk. And his eyes were getting brighter.
Killian’s. Not Graham’s.
She had no idea what Graham’s eyes did.
“Are you serving me unnamed alcohol?” Emma asked, and she was sure she did not slur her words the way it sounded.
He shrugged.
Good thing the holiday season was nearly over.
And Will’s reaction was far too loud, tossing a towel over his back before he draped himself across Killian’s back, hooking his own chin over that slightly lifted shoulder. “He’s showing off, Em. That’s all it is. Are you going to die, though?”
At the bar.
“Your tongue is blue.”
Four seats away from Leroy the regular.
“Don’t move so quickly, Swan,” Killian said, a hand finding her cheek and that was fine. Totally fine. Great, even. Super—
Califragilisticexpialidocious.
So, she was more drunk than she’d been. Like, ever.
“Your fault,” she mumbled. Burrowing further into his palm was not an option Emma had, so naturally that’s exactly what she did and Will made another noise. “Something to add, Scar—” Emma paused, lifting an impatient finger when both men in front of her dared to laugh. “—Let, you jerky jerkface.”
“You will find out whenever else does, kid,” Will guaranteed. “And there were at least four different types of rum in that swill he gave you.”
That would have annoyed Belle.
Humming, Will untwisted his limbs from Killian, a different hand finding her cheek and the strands of hair that were hanging over her eyes and she scowled when he tapped her chin. “Trying to impress you,” Will repeated intently.
“Is he—” Emma’s brain couldn’t keep up. Thoughts rushed through her, firing synapses that were only passably functional, and the lights from the jukebox across the room were starting to float in her vision. Pressing her fingers into her cheek, Emma knew the skin there moved, but she also could not feel a single thing and—“You’re laughing at me.”
Her head hurt. Ached, even through the haze she’d only recently evolved into, and Emma hated bowling. Was absolutely God awful at it. The kind of awful that required bumpers whenever they’d gone, and they used to go when they were kids. On New Year’s Eve afternoon, some tradition that Ruth had come up with and David honored, even after he and Mary Margaret had segued into happily ever after, and Emma could count on one hand how many times she’d crested the 100-point mark.
“I am,” he said, “but you’re also sloshed, so I’m willing to give you a pass. And no.”
She felt oddly similar now.
Playing a game she wasn’t very good at, with more gutter balls than any self-respecting adult should record. Eight pounds of cylindrical force kept rolling through her, threatening anything in its path, but not hitting what it was supposed to, and she also could have eaten an entire tub of bowling alley snacks right now.
“Why are fries better in a bowling alley? Like, better than anywhere else.”
Will’s eyes narrowed. “Better than Shake Shack?”
Blinking continued to be one of Emma’s less impressive reactions, but she was stuck on that bowling ball metaphor and Killian’s arm around her shoulders made it impossible to talk.
“‘S’totally different.”
“You ready, love?”
“We’re leaving, love,” Killian said, and there was at least part of her that was smart enough to pick on repeat endearments. And then promptly cling to them. In her swollen heart.
“For?”
“Make sure you brush your tongue too tonight, Em,” Will advised, “otherwise that blue is going to stick.”
Saluting left her more off-balance than she’d been all night, laughter echoing behind them as Killian pulled the door shut and he’d ordered them a car. Emma honestly had no idea how they got in said car, but then they were moving and she was only slightly dizzy and he—
He made another noise, slumping next to her, which made it even easier for Emma to touch as much of him as possible and he didn’t object. She didn’t think he would. Ever, actually.
“Smell really good.”
God, poor Graham.
She was the worst.
David played hockey when he was a kid.
“Not as such, no,” Killian said, “just thinking we might be able to add something new and—” His shoulder shifted under her cheek, Emma’s soft hum of disapproval making him smile. She still didn’t check. “—Not that we haven’t been making money, but...people gotta have a schtick.”
No sound. Nothing except engines, and there could only be one engine in a car, Emma was fairly positive, so that didn’t really make sense and Killian stared ahead when she tilted her head up. “Sometimes,” Killian admitted softly, “but, uh—like I said, just trying to get something that might help us a little more and weddings are expensive, y’know?”
“Whatever,” Emma groaned, “just—I’m saying it’s a good bar.”
Thinking about melting as often as she was, was starting to become patently ridiculous.
“You’re trying to come up with ridiculous bachelorette party drinks—”
With such God awful interests in the opposite sex.
Emma rapped her knuckles against his chest. “To help pay for Scarlet’s wedding?”
The world was a joke. Happy Holidays.
“You’re not getting ready with Lucas or Elsa or anything tomorrow, are you?”
Huh. No grand slam, then.
Of all the questions she definitely wasn’t prepared for, that was at the bottom of the list. Emma was not actually making any of these lists. “This isn’t prom.”
Being hungover on New Year’s Eve was one of the crueler jokes the universe had played on her in the last week or so.
“Yeah, ok,” she said, letting her head drop back to his shoulder and Emma wasn’t sure why it sounded like he exhaled. In something almost like relief. Eyes fluttering the way they were, she must have imagined it, another ridiculous metaphor and even dumber analogy and her groan was especially pitiful when the car stopped. No way her stomach was going to stay where it was supposed to for the rest of the night.
All of Emma hurt, muscles she hadn’t been aware she was in possession of seemingly rising up in revolt of her very existence, and she couldn’t really turn her head. Which endlessly delighted Ruby in a way that was making her reconsider their friendship, and Killian kept glancing in their direction. His arm bumped Emma’s no less than twenty-four times in the car over.
And for as much as she wanted to crawl under several mountains of blankets and consider all her romantic shortcomings, something in the back of Emma’s mind preened a bit under his flitting gaze, trying not to meet his eyes too often. Only to fail every time — if Ruby’s laughter was any indication, and Will had groaned several times, but he also didn’t appear to be engaged yet and Emma had apologized to Graham that afternoon.
Through text, though. So it only kind of counted. She wasn’t even sure parts of the messages were English. Her head felt like it was going to snap open, which made the champagne she was practically shotgunning at that point a very bad decision, but she’d been on a roll on that front, so she had no intention of altering course and it was nearly midnight.
“This is depressing,” Ruby announced. “He’s staring again.”
Rolling her eyes was an impossibility if Emma didn’t want to make a spectacle of herself in front of her brother and some of the teachers from Mary Margaret’s school, and Ruby’s date was nice. Had a lot of pictures of her dog on her phone, but nice all the same.
More blinking. Honestly, she was a mess. The teachers kept hogging space on the couch. Killian smiled when he looked at Emma, that time. “Elaborate on that.”
“Are you the dumbest person alive?”
“No, this is just our general opinion of you. Both of you, really. I—are you not almost painfully aware of how in love Killian is with you? Em, he is staring at you. Like, right now. Blatantly. Obviously. Some other adverb.”
“We live together.”
Wide eyes and an impressively straight row of teeth were all the warning Emma got before there was a hand on her shoulder and he smelled just as good as she was hopeful she hadn’t mentioned last night, but that felt like wishful thinking and Emma did not, in fact, eject any bodily fluids when Killian turned her. Victories, she was flush with them.
“I’m so bad at cooking.”
“Hey,” she breathed, and Ruby groaned so loudly it likely did damage to the ozone layer.
Frozen to the spot, she tried very hard to regulate her breathing and fix her pulse, and neither thing worked. And then. Something clicked — almost audibly in her brain, and her soul and her heart’s potential for explosion was suddenly something she had to worry about.
Killian’s lips twitched. “You got a second?”
“Please don’t look at me like that,” Killian murmured. She barely heard him. Not when there were fingers tracing up her side and lingering on the small of her back, and Emma’s head moved her head as slowly as she could.
If she moved any faster, she’d either fall over or wake up from this very lucid dream and neither of those things were all that positive.
“Cooking, it’s—I love you a lot, but you are absolutely atrocious at it.”
“You’ve got to stop cooking, love.”
The world stopped. Paused, at least. Gave Emma’s muddled mind a second to catch up, and she’d need several more seconds, but she also wasn’t quite that greedy and Killian’s smile widened. As soon as her fingers curled into his shirt.
He didn’t move his hands.
“I—” she stammered. “I am...but we don’t match!”
“What is happening right now?” Emma breathed, only cautiously optimistic she wanted the answer.
A chorus of angry jeers rained down on them — Will using Robin to keep himself upright while he flipped Killian off with both hands. “Pining piner who pines like a goddamn idiot.”
“Well, I’m fairly in love with you. To an almost ridiculous degree.”
“I do appreciate the cooking effort though,” he added. “But it’s a very old profile, made almost entirely by Scarlet in—”
“I honestly forgot it existed,” Killian continued, “I’ve never used it, really. Just knew that Scarlet had made the thing, and then I ignored the messages and—”
As it was, her fingers were already tight enough that Emma very easily pulled herself up and the hand at her waist helped keep her balanced and they were very good at this. Kissing, specifically. Heads tilted automatically to an angle that made it all too easy for Emma to open her mouth, and Killian’s tongue was even more distracting when it was brushing hers, and someone was groaning, but that might have been her, or possibly him and his hair was soft. Between her fingers.
“Not as many as you did.”
Breathing was suddenly a secondary concern, and Emma’s lungs had already proved they were basically made of steel, or at least impervious to the flames currently exploding between her ribs and none of that was biologically accurate.
She never did find out where her pancreas was.
And she was so busy dealing with the way the solar system appeared to be reordering itself around the pair of them, that Emma didn’t notice the countdown or the metallic crown tossed at her feet. Only that there were eventually cheers and Ryan Seacrest’s face plastered across the TV on the other side of the room, and one of Killian’s hands had worked underneath her shirt.
The sparkly one that had made his eyes noticeably widen several hours earlier.
“How did you figure it out?”

Undying Admiration
Francine "France" Winters
Safe house 110197, Brazil
"Look at them two, you think we could do that too?" Soap asked France. They were both seated on Soap's side of the floor, the soft foam caught their asses as they crossed their legs while Soap spun around a water bottle.
"You and me? Sing and Dance? Never in a million years!" She denied looking at the poor guy's attempt to actually get her to like him. She thinks he already knew that she's already falling for him since day one. But she wanted to focus on other things at hand rather than distract herself with romance. Maybe if this was all over and he's still there, he'll finally get the answer he's looking for.
"Why not? I'm kinda okay with singing." He grinned. Francine giggled. Sure he is, his overconfidence was getting attractive for her. If they weren't soldiers in a war, they'd probably be making out again. What happened back at the Gulag was an impulse, she never saw it coming as she almost lost hope for his absence.
"Why don't you like… sing for me?" She dared her eyes stared intensely into Soap's eye-catching baby blue orbs. She made a mental note that staring for more than five seconds in those were already dangerous, so she always breaks it before the fifth.
"Why do you do that?" He asked, his voice was giving her ears a good time. Yes. She's falling for him. It felt like everything he does is attractive, but she shouldn't be too quick, life has taught her that the faster she falls in love, the faster they leave. So she had to test the guy's patience.
"Do what?" she asked as if she didn't know what he meant.
"Look me in the eyes then immediately break it as soon as I stare long enough…" His eyes squinted towards her as she evaded eye contact.
"I don't do that." She easily shrugged it off and got up.
"Well, good night. John. We have an early mission tomorrow." She got up as Soap trailed his eyes on her, the look of admiration was painted all across his face.
"Can you not look at me like that?!" She pleaded as her cheeks blushed. Her boyish appeal on the force always repelled attention and now this guy was admiring her for who she is and she felt happy.
"I won't do it if I get a good night's kiss." he pouted his wonderful lips. Lips she actually really wanted to taste again.
"Good Night John." She said as she closed the men's bedroom door and went to her bed.
~
When Price told her about a small recon mission, she never knew it was this small. The team only consisted of her and Ghost riding a rental truck to a village which was a few kilometers away from their safe house. The point person was an alleged nephew of a soldier that currently works for Shepherd. It was almost a dead lead but the intel being accessible enough was sort of worth it.
Rule of engagement is "Don't".
The village would most likely be unarmed, unprotected and peaceful. But Price advised to keep a side arm in case things go awry. It was a good call, and France noted to herself that she won't ever fire a shot for this mission as to not raise any sort of attention in addition to what Shepherd already gave them.
"Looks like it's time to go." Soap muttered as Ghost passed through them looking prepared.
Soap nodded goodbye to the man but he just continued walking.
"Maybe he had earphones on." he muttered as he pouted his lips. France softly reached for his cheek and shoved it sideways.
"In your dreams." She laughed as she waved goodbye.
"Every night." He winked as France made an almost disgusted face and followed Ghost. She was lucky enough that she quickly moved that Soap won't see her blushing cheeks.
France hoisted herself on the shotgun of the car and smiled at her partner, who looked serious. Without his mask, he was your average tough british soldier, and he looked like he wasn't in for some small talk while driving. France respected his privacy and trailed her eyes elsewhere, looking at the lush greenery and muddy tracks of tropical Brazil.
France wasn't a fan of quiet road trips, she tried humming to tunes from her playlist as the loud revving of the rental jeep overpowered her voice.
"Are you usually this quiet?" France asked, trying to break the silence between them.
"Yeah. You got a problem with that?" He replied, his eyes trailed on the road as it hit a bump. France actually felt shocked toward his reply and she started to worry about what she did wrong.
"You know you could always say no to Price's orders instead of regretting and wishing Roach would be here instead of me." She pouted, crossing her arms.
"Well that wasn't my case but now that you said it, maybe I should've asked for Roach instead!" He yelled. France couldn't help but shed a tear. She actually had no idea towards his hostility and the thought of not knowing any reason made her mad.
"Wow. Okay." she squirmed and unbuckled her seatbelt causing Ghost to slow down his driving.
"Where are you going? The village is still far from here!" he asked, France never bothered to talk to him as she simply walked away from the path.
Ghost immediately left the vehicle and followed her, catching her so she won't escape and run away.
"Why are you not replying?!" He asked, gripping her hands, restricting her movement. France used her strength to break free of his slightly weak grip and turned to him.
"You see now how it feels? To ignore someone without knowing why?!" She raised her voice. This seemed to make sense to Simon as he actually looked like he's sorry.
"I… " he sighed and looked at her, his eyes were lost and sad.
"I can't talk to you anymore… because I like you… but you've already set your eyes on someone else… so I just had to ignore you hoping that it'll make it less painful." he muttered. Complete silence filled the air.
France didn't know what to do. She didn't know what to say. It may be true that she already had eyes on a certain Scottish cutie, but telling him the truth all over again would leave such mental scars.
It took her long enough to say something that Ghost already invited her back to the car, and her silence may leave no meaning, but to Ghost it meant a lot, at least he knew that he no longer had a chance on her and would finally move on.
The village was like any other typical village, the elder's house would always be on the highest point and the two opted to ask the village elder first to gather clues.
One clue led to another as they visited each house looking for one Fabian Alvarez, a nephew of an alleged Shadow Company soldier. Only a few were able to speak fluent english and they decided to help, until such time that Fabian decided to show up.
He looked like a five year old kid, holding a rubber ball and he looked at France and Ghost awkwardly before hiding back into his house. Fabian was far too young to know about his uncle's whereabouts and the lead went cold once again.
The ride home was quiet. France didn't want to say anything as she can't. Her heart was like inside a washing machine, swirling around as she thought of how Ghost liked her while she's clearly liking someone else. It must've been hella awkward and painful to see on a daily basis. She felt that once, when her best friend got together with her high school crush and continued to stay together up to this day… She knew how he felt.
~
The moment they got back, she was actually greeted by Soap, who already had his hands wide open for a hug. As usual, France would ignore his gesture and it now felt that she was already helping out Ghost from the pain. But now, she's the one feeling restricted.
It pained her to not get near Soap and he's already starting to notice the indifference. She was actually surprised when he cornered her, just as soon as she stepped out of the shower.
Her cheeks flushed as the idea of her, only wrapped with a towel, stood in front of Soap. She felt really vulnerable in this position.
"What happened out there?" he looked angry but the tone of his voice sounded concerned.
"Nothing, it's just … A dead lead. A waste of time." She replied as she attempted to cross over him.
"And how does that warrant an indifferent approach toward me?" he quickly moved to block her again. She sighed at her actions. He was right. He didn't deserve this treatment, he needed to learn something about the truth.
"We had a little fight with your friend over there…" She muttered, her voice was low enough so he couldn't hear.
"Who, Ghost?" he inched his face closer and his face lit up like a curious bystander who overhears conversations on a daily basis.
"Yeah… It was an unpleasant exchange." She said vaguely.
"Well, it'll all be resolved soon. I guess you're too carried away that you didn't want to talk to me as well…" he chuckled and scratched the back of his head. That gesture always made France happy, he may not notice it but she loves the way his muscles twitch when he scratches his nape. She found it satisfying and hot.
"Yeah… I'll go change." She said, as she frowned as soon as they parted. She knew she had to tell him the specific reason and the events that occured today, but she felt that it would create a domino effect that would lead the team to be uncooperative.
During bedtime, Alex requested France to swap sleeping spaces, meaning that she had to lie down beside Soap. She couldn't find the courage to say no as it might ruin the reunion they both longed for after a very long time.
France swung the door open and found out that they were already asleep, except for Ghost who was once again missing. She used this opportunity to actually wake Soap up and let him be aware that she'll be sleeping beside him. She planned to make both men comfortable by spacing herself between them, by only showing affection to Soap while Ghost's not around, until such time that Ghost would accept the inevitable truth.
"John." She whispered, as Soap lazily opened his eyes and reached out for her, wrapping her in his arms.
"I really like you. A lot. I hope you'll be patient enough for me." She whispered again. She knew he wouldn't hear it but the idea of her actually expressing her thoughts to him, put her at ease, as she slowly closed her eyes and drifted to sleep, wrapped by the arms of the man whom she really admired.

unbearable
a haikyuu x reader ficlet
words: 3.01k
pairing: tsukishima kei x reader
warning/s: just pure fluff about to be thrown your way my dude
Tsukishima Kei has never pegged himself as the romantic type. Yamaguchi can confirm. The blond has never read any of those romance novels during his leisure time, he never pays attention to the dramas his mother watches on TV, and he's never thought twice about dating someone.
He's never fallen in love with someone. He thought it was dumb to fall in love, Romeo and Juliet being a good contender as to why love is such a complicating yet stupid thing. He believes that loving someone romantically is a bother, that's why he's never looked at anyone that way. He's merely protecting himself from getting hurt from love because everything that's said in those romance novels are exaggerated, he tells himself.
Tsukishima was content with everything he had as of now. He's okay with focusing on self-improvement, he doesn't need to value or think of other things.
That is until you showed up.
You're a first year manager, alongside Yachi, of the Karasuno Boy's Volleyball Team and Tsukishima immediately deems you as another person to avoid because the first person you got along with was Hinata. Just like with everyone else, he doesn't interact with you that much, and only says what's necessary when he has to talk to you.
Unfortunately for him, he finds out that you're classmates.
Tsukishima doesn't memorize everyone's names in his class, he doesn't feel the need to do that ever. Once classes end, he's immediately off to practice with Yamaguchi, that is unless he's assigned for cleaning time, so he doesn't even remember you right off the bat.
During English class, the teacher picks you to read a passage from the story that you were analyzing. Being fluent in the English language, this didn't bother you at all. So you stand up and begin reading. Everyone's eyes are on you. They've never heard you speak English before, so they're all definitely surprised, especially a certain tall blond a few seats away from you.
'She's eloquent...', he thinks. Of course, that's what anyone would think if they heard you speaking right now. He's staring at you, and he only realizes when he hears the teacher commend you on your English. He's trying to focus on the lesson, but his mind keep coming back to you and your voice. It's lovely, and soothing in a way. He feels his cheeks heat up a little from thinking about you too much. He finally calms down and focuses back on the passage.
As classes end, the blond sees Yamaguchi begging something from you. As he gets closer, he learns that the other boy is asking for English lessons from you. Yamaguchi notices the taller boy and give him a quick greeting before giving his undivided attention back to you.
"Yamaguchi-kun, are you sure you want me to teach you English?"
"Of course, [Y/N]! There's no one else I know who's as insanely good in English as you are!"
"Well, alright. I guess I can teach you English."
"Teach me as well." Tsukishima finally speaks. Almost in sync, Yamaguchi and you whip your head towards the tall boy's direction. You're just as surprised as Yamaguchi is from Tsukishima's sudden and very surprising request. Tsukishima, of all people, is asking for help. He must be having that much trouble in English to ask someone else to help him.
You're the first to break the uncomfortable silence and you agree to teaching the both of them the subject, Tsukishima is forever thankful for you taking the initiative in changing the awkward atmosphere between the three of you.
Over the course of a few weeks, he's warmed up to you. He talks to you a lot more now, and very rarely he actually engages in the conversation first, but those were usually about homework. Thanks to Yamaguchi and Tsukishima, you've developed a good amount of confidence in your skills as well. You're much more social than you were before, though that's because of Hinata's influence on you, and you participate in a lot of the class activities, be it extra curricular or just favors from your classmates.
Tsukishima always thought you'd eventually forget about him and Yamaguchi, so he stopped himself from getting too attached to you, but to his surprise, you never said no to Yamaguchi whenever he asked to hang out. Sure, you've made a lot more friends now, and you've gained some popularity as well, but you never strayed too far away from the first friends you've ever made.
Not only are you smart, but you're also incredibly kind and selfless, traits Tsukishima never understood. You'd almost immediately, and sometimes literally, drop whatever you were doing and go and help them with whatever they need assistance with, even if it's a little request like taking the trash out to the garbage bins behind the school. You basically thrived off of helping out, and Tsukishima is beyond intrigued by you.
You see, Tsukishima has never seem himself as selfless. He only does things that benefits him. He'll only agree if something is of use to him. To put it in other words, he's selfish. He's never done things to help others, he'll only do so if necessary, such as group projects. He's never the type to consider actually helping someone out because he just felt like it. If it benefits him, he'll do it, if it doesn't, he won't. Simple as that.
Before Tsukishima's even realized it, he's staring at you as you talk to a classmate of yours. Unfortunately, Yamaguchi notices the boy's lovestruck state and decides to initiate a conversation with him. "Tsukki, you've been staring at [Y/N] a lot," He says, catching the taller boy's attention. Tsukishima's eyes dilate in his sudden approach, his cheeks having a tint of pink, and he glares at his friend.
"Shut up, Yamaguchi."
"Sorry, Tsukki, but I'm just surprised how she hasn't noticed just how much you stare at her."
"... Is it really that obvious?"
"To me, it is. To her, it isn't."
Tsukishima groans internally. He didn't even notice that he was staring for so long until Yamaguchi brought it up. No, he will not admit that he was admiring you. Never. He'll get over this, right? This is just a one time thing... right?
Wrong.
He wants to get closer to you now. He wants to interact with you every day. He wishes he sat near you so he could ask for a pencil just so he'd have an excuse to talk to you. He hoped that his heart would stop beating faster whenever you looked at him and smiled. He hoped that his cheeks would stop growing pink whenever you laughed at a corny joke Hinata made. He hoped that his legs wouldn't get wobbly whenever he hears the mere sound of your voice. He hoped things would just go back to normal. But just hoping wouldn't work.
Tsukishima Kei has undoubtedly fallen in love with you.
And he's realized that when he overheard a conversation between you and a male classmate;
"Hey [Y/N]."
You stop erasing on the chalkboard and turn to face him properly. You dust off the chalk dust on your skirt and blouse and reply, "What's up?"
"I was wondering... Could we, you know, meet- uh, meet behind the school later? Before your club activities, of course..." He was clearly blushing, everyone could see that, he was fidgety, and he stuttered a bunch of times. Anyone could already tell where that was going. Except you.
"Oh, of course!" You smile innocently at him, as he smiles back widely. He goes back to his group of friends with a very victorious look you were unable to see. As you turn around, you are met with a pair of familiar pair of eyes, staring you down as if you did something unbelievable.
"[Y/N], what was that about?"
"I don't know, he probably needed help with something. Maybe homework. But he could've just asked me right here, it's not like I would judge him for asking for help. Maybe he's just shy, who knows?"
Yamaguchi face palms at your response, you're even more confused. The green haired boy looks at you in disbelief, and sighs in frustration, "You know what, I'll leave that to you to find out."
Yamaguchi did say he'll leave it to you to find out, but he needed to know how things would turn out. So he dragged Tsukishima along with him, who silently agrees to following you behind the school, despite you telling them that Daichi or Coach Ukai might get mad at them for being late. Yamaguchi, bless his soul, told the two of you that he would take responsibility and would take any punishment that went along with it.
The two boys hid behind the corner of the building, listening closely to your conversation with your classmate.
"Nakamura-kun, why'd you ask to meet me here?" You ask him, clearly not understanding the atmosphere that was around the both of you. Anyone who would catch you there would understand what was happening, but unfortunately, you just couldn't predict what was going to happen.
He stood there for quite a bit, fidgeting, and avoiding eye contact with you. His face seemed all red and you began to worry if he was getting feverish from all this. You take a step forward and he immediately freezes up from you getting close to him.
"Nakamura-kun."
"Y-Yes?!"
"Are you feeling ill? You look red. Maybe you should go to the clinic."
He shakes his head repetitively, saying he wasn't ill and that he really had something to tell you. You nod and wait for him to say it, as you didn't want to make him uncomfortable enough than he already was.
"I... I really like you, [Y/N]!"
"Oh? I like you too, Nakamura-kun."
Yamaguchi face palms. Tsukishima stifles a laugh.
"Really? Then, will you go out with me?"
"Go out? Right now? But I still have club activities." You tilt your head in confusion as he fumbles to find the right words.
"No! Not right now! Maybe on Saturday! Yeah, does that sound good?"
"Oh, perfect, I'm free that day. So which subject are you having trouble on? If it's Math, I can't really help you with that."
Yamaguchi is currently trying to stop Tsukishima and himself from laughing out loud.
"What?" He looks at you, his life draining out of him.
"We're talking about homework, right? Oh! Did I get it wrong? Did you need help with another thing?"
"[Y/N], no. I meant... I meant like go out on a date! Like a romantic date!"
You squint your eyes at him as you process the words in your head. One by one, the cogs in your slow brain finally start moving, and you finally get what he's trying to say.
"Oh, like those dates you see in the movies? I'm sorry, Nakamura-kun, I'm just not the person you should be liking, there are a lot more girls there that will surely make you happy. I'll just make you frustrated, I'm sorry. I really am." You bowed at him politely but he assures you that he doesn't need you to apologize, he just wanted a proper answer from you.
Hearing you say that made Tsukishima's heart drop. You were already aware that you'd make people frustrated with you, and he didn't want you to think that way. He felt a strong desire to change that, but you guys were just friends, he doesn't have a right to change anything about you, he doesn't even have the chance to.
You turn around to see Yamaguchi snickering like a kid and Tsukishima just looking at him with his signature annoyed look. You laugh and them and begin dragging them to the gym, where you were met with an annoyed coach, a concerned Daichi, and very curious players.
Despite having rejected that boy, there were still other people from other classes who tried to woo you with their pick-up lines, but you never really got them, so you just laughed and nodded in hopes of them not getting hurt by you not being able to comprehend any deeper meaning to what they say.
"Does your hand feel heavy, [Y/N]-san?"
"No? I don't think it's possible for a hand to feel heavy?"
"Nevermind."
You tried your best to understand, you really did. You just wanted to keep up with their pick-up lines, but you just couldn't do it. You've never had that kind of experience, so it was hard to understand what they were trying to say.
But without realizing it yourself, you were also beginning to get interested in a certain tall blond classmate. You quickly dismissed these reactions as something everyone can experience, you weren't the only one, of course. Everyone feels this way around Tsukishima. Right? Right?
"[Y/N], I can very much confirm that not everyone feels that way towards Tsukki."
Oh.
"So, your legs don't get wobbly and your heart doesn't beat faster around Tsukishima?"
Yamaguchi laughs and you feel yourself feeling embarrassed as he does so. You give him a light punch on his arm, since you can't reach his head, and cross your arms, a pout present on your face.
"[Y/N], I'm not in love with Tsukki."
In love? Is that what it is?
"I can't be in love. I don't even understand what love is enough to actually feel it." You say, trying to convince yourself more than you're trying to convince Yamaguchi, who only shrugs at your response.
"If you say so, [Y/N]."
The next few days were weird.
For some godforsaken reason, Yamaguchi had convinced Tsukishima to at least flirt with you a little bit, having learned that the blond was hopelessly in love with you, even though the taller blond told the other that you'll have the same reaction as you did with those other guys that tried to do a pick-up line on you.
The first time he tried to flirt, which was a pick-up line about a highlighter and brightening up his world, it turned into you telling him a story about how you accidentally drank water with highlighter ink thinking it was some kind of juice. He was actually immersed in the story sometimes, teasing you about how you couldn't recognize the color of the highlighter.
The second time he tried to flirt, where Yamaguchi would "accidentally" shove you into Tsukishima, he pushed you too hard and ended with you sitting on top of a very uncomfortable and potentially hurt blond.
The third time he tried to flirt, where he intended on staying close to you a lot, like sitting next to you during study sessions, walking next to you during the walk to the gym, just staying close to you in general, you didn't at all notice because you just thought it was normal for friends to do that, all the while trying to ignore your loudly beating heart.
The fourth and final time he flirted with you, was when you finally confessed to him.
Tsukishima is an observant person, so he's probably noticed your mannerisms around him by now. How your tone of voice changes when you talk to him, and how easilt flustered you get when you talk to him. He thought he had a chance, and he was right.
"I don't really like talking about feelings that much but Yamaguchi told me to tell you everything that I'm feeling. So, here goes nothing, I guess."
You take a deep breath and you suddenly feel as if the ground was shaking. You're terrified, but you have to do this. You've already committed to this. There's no turning back.
"Tsukishima, whenever I look at you, I feel really happy. Your voice makes me feel like I'm on the comfiest pillow in the world. Whenever you do that really cute smirk when you tease Hinata or Kageyama, it makes me laugh a lot. You're weird."
"Excuse me?"
"Shut up, I'm not done yet."
You inhale once more.
"You're really mean to Hinata and Kageyama, and you're also unintentionally mean to a lot of our classmates, but I like that about you. Whenever you offer to help me with Math, I kind of feel sad because I'm supposed to be the one doing all the helping!"
"You don't always have to help-"
"Let me finish! You're actually really nice, you know? I saw you playing with a stray cat the other day and giving it food and it made my heart do flips! You looked really cute. I don't know how to express myself properly, and when I try to, it's word vomit. I want to learn and try to be better for you, I want to know what to do with this slow brain of mine, and I really really want to do all those romantic stuff with you."
You're in the verge of crying, but you quickly wipe away any evidence of you crying.
"I... I think I like you, Tsukishima."
He doesn't say anything and you feel embarrassment creeping up behind you. The air is suffocating and you want to run away, but you legs are stuck to the ground. You feel ashamed in the other's presence, wanting to dig a grave and rot in it.
Then, you feel big arms wrap around your smaller frame, pulling you close to his chest, as he buries his face on your shoulder. He only hugged you for a while, as he isn't that type to prolong skinship.
You clear your throat and break the short silence between the two of you, "I've been meaning to ask. Did you flirt with me earlier?"
"Have been for the past week, but thanks for noticing." He replies almost immediately as you just stand there in shock.
"Oh."
"You're unbearable, [Y/N]."
You look up at him and laugh, punching his chest lightly.
"But you love me."
"Yes, yes I do."

Inside Out
Chapter 7
Pairing- Loki x Reader
Warning-cursing
Your thoughts and other characters are in italics. Flashbacks are in bold.
Back at Thor's meeting with his comrades.
“And what of the All-Father?” Sif asked.
“It is my sworn duty to notify him of crimes against the throne.” Heimdall stated.
Odin visits Heimdall accompanied by some of his guards. “You called me here on an urgent matter. What is it?”
“Treason, my lord.” Heimdall answered.
“Whose?”
“Mine.” Heimdall draws his sword.
At the same time more guards interrupt them. “My King, the mortal has been taken.”
Odin looks at Heimdall as he commands his guards. “Stop Thor, by any means necessary.”
○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○
As they hear the guards approaching.
“There they are! Take them. On my command.”
“I'll hold them off. Take her.” Sir told Thor
“Thank you.” Thor and Jane go off.
Loki goes to follow them Sif draws her sword and places it under Loki's throat. “Betray him and I'll kill you.”
Loki chuckles. “It's good to see you too, Sif.”
Loki leaves to join Thor and Jane as the guards get closer to Sif.

Back at the original meeting with Thor and his comrades.
“Assuming you can get Loki's help, and you can free this mortal, what good would it do? We'd all be dead the minute we step one foot outside the palace.” Volstagg remarked.
“That, my friend, is where we won't be leaving by foot.” Thor said with a smirk.
Thor, Loki and Jane meet Volstagg and Y/n where Malekith's ship had crashed into the palace.
“I will give you as much time as I can.” Volstagg noted.
“Don’t worry there’s a barrier 5 yards in front of us they won’t be able to get past it until we’re out the palace.” Y/n explained.
“Where’s the fun in that.” Volstagg said with broad grin. “Until, next time my Lady.”
“Until, next time.” Y/n said with a smirk then. Y/n looks up and see Loki. “The handcuffs was a nice touch.”
“You think so?” Thor asked.
“Funny.” Loki chimed in.
Thor and Volstagg do a forearm shake. “Thank you, my friend.”
As they walk towards Malekith's crashed ship, Jane smiles and nods at Volstagg, then as Loki is about to follow Thor and Jane Volstagg stops him
“If you even think about betraying him...”
“You'll kill me? Evidently there will be a line.” Loki told Volstagg.
Volstagg then lets Loki pass as Thor, Y/n , Jane and Loki board Malekith's crashed ship, Thor looks at the controls and starts pressing some button, looking unsure of what he's doing.
“I thought you said you knew how to fly this thing.”
“I said, ‘how hard could it be?’”
Meanwhile, the Asgardian guards rush towards the ship. “They're on the ship! They're on the ship!.” Before they can even touch Volstagg they run into the barrier and knock themselves out.
“Like hitting a brick wall.” One of the Asgardian guard said before he passed out.
Back in the ship.
“I’ll put a Force field around the ship.” Y/n opens her hands and a bubble forms around the ship.
“Well, whatever you're doing, brother, I suggest you do it faster.” Loki nagged.
“Shut up, Loki.” Thor continues to frantically press every button to start the ship.
“Loki you’re not helping.” Y/n voiced.
Loki snug his shoulders. “You must have missed something.”
“No, I didn't, I'm pressing every button on this thing.”
“No, don't hit it, just press it gently.” Loki said as he hits the buttons.
“I am pressing it gently. It's not working!” Thor said as suddenly the ship comes to life, Thor laughs.
“Get him! Get him!”
Volstagg starts laughing as they watch the ship start to rise, hitting the columns of the palace.
“I think you missed a column.” Loki informed Thor.
“Shut up!” Finally the ship breaks through the palace walls and takes off.
As they are flying through Asgard. “Look, why don't you let me take over, I'm clearly the better pilot.”
“Is that right? Well, out of the two of us which one can actually fly?” Thor commented.
As they are flying over Asgard suddenly Jane collapses.
“Jane!” Y/n rushes over to help her but when she touches her Y/n gets pulled into her mind. Everything is blood red and dark.
“Hello!” Y/n shouted.
“You have to stop him.”
Y/n turns around fast and see Jane but her eyes are black. “Stop who?”
“It can only be you.” Jane started. “If you don’t millions, billions will die including your friends.”
“Petit?”
Y/n turns around slowly and see Gambit reaching out but he’s turns to dust and Y/n’s eyes are frozen open.
“Y/n?”
Nick,Steve, and Tony they all started to appear and reaching out for Y/n then turns to dust.
“No..no..stop this..stop this. I don’t want to see this.” Y/n exclaimed as black veins appears on her face.
“That’s what’s going to happen if don’t stop him.” Jane stated.
“Calm down...calm down...this isn’t real it’s not real.” Y/n said to herself.
“You saw what is he after.”
Y/n exhale in her best attempt to calm down, she then looks at Jane. “What do I need to do to stop this from happening?”
“Both powers the you were born with and given is endless control it get even stronger then you already are and only then you will stop him.” Jane informed.
Y/n pulls out and moves back.
“Oh, dear. Is she dead?” Loki wondered.
“Jane.” Thor called out.
Jane raises her head, looking weak. “I'm okay.”
“Jane did you see that?” Y/n questioned.
“See, what?” Jane said in a curious way.
“Nothing..” Y/n lied. “I’m gonna freeze the Aether spreading further in your body ok.”
Jane nod ‘yes’ and Y/n holds her hands out over Jane’s arm and freeze the the Aether.
“Better?”
“Much, thank you?”
Y/n sits back looking shocked.
As they continue to fly, the ship hits and breaks off a part of a massive building.
“Not a word.” Thor told Loki.
“Several smaller Asgardian ships start following them.”
“Now they're following us.” Loki commented. The smaller ships start firing at them. “Now they're firing at us!”
“Yeah, thank you for the commentary, Loki! It's not at all distracting!” Thor said sarcastically.
The ship then hits a massive stone monument of King Bor, breaking the head off. “Well done, you just decapitated your grandfather.”
The smaller ships continue follow and fire at them as they fly over Asgard] “You know this is wonderful. This is a tremendous idea. Let's steal the biggest, most obvious ship in the universe and escape in that. Flying around the city, smashing into everything in sight so everyone can see us. It's brilliant, Thor! It's truly brilliant.” Suddenly Thor pushes Loki off the ship.
“Y/n time to go.”
Thor’s voice snaps Y/n out of her shock state. “Ya ya right right.”
Y/n jumps out the ship, Thor then picks up Jane and jumps off the flying ship and lands onto a smaller ship being flown by Fandral, Loki has also fallen onto the ship.
Fandral laughs. “I see your time in the dungeons has made you no less graceful, Loki.”
Loki looks over at Y/n and see empty stare like she’s not even on this Plane. “Y/n, are you alright.”
“Ya. Ya I’m fine.” Y/n lied with a fake smile.
Loki sees right though Y/n lie and can tell that something is the matter.
Maybe she’s still upset with me
“I’m not upset.” Y/n told Loki.
“Then what’s the wrong?” Loki asked.
“I can’t talks about it because I don’t even understand it myself.” Y/n answered.
“You know you could tell me anything when the time is right.”
“Ya, I know.”
The Asgardian ships above them continue to follow and fire at Malekith's ship as they think that Thor is still on there. Thor lays Jane down next to where Y/n is standing.
“You lied to me. I'm impressed.” Loki grinned.
“I'm glad you're pleased. Now, do as you promised. Take us to your secret pathway.” Thor ordered.
Loki smiles and takes over the ship's control, at the same time the Asgardian ships spot them and start firing at them.
“Fandral.”
“Right.” Fandral picks up a rope and steps on to the edge of the ship. “For Asgard.” Suddenly he jumps off the ship and uses the rope to swing onto the Asgardian ship following them. “Nothing personal, boys!” He knocks out the three guards on the ship then looks over to Thor and salutes him. On Fandral's ship Loki flies them towards the mountains.
“Loki!” Y/n and Thor called out.
“If it were easy everyone would do it.” Loki commented.
“Are you mad?” Thor questioned
“Possibly.”
Thor holds on to Jane, Y/n grabs the rim of the ship as Loki heads straight for the wall of the mountain, suddenly they enter right through the mountain and then enter through a portal to Svartalfheim.
“Ta-da!”
○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○
On their ship, Algrim approaches Malekith. “We must attack now.”
“No. Asgard is not important anymore. The Aether has returned home.” As they fly over Svartalfheim.

Jane continues to lie down and Thor puts a cover over her]
Loki sighs. “What I could do with the power that flows through those veins.”
“It would consume you.” Thor proclaimed.
“She's holding up alright, for now.” Loki disclosed.
“She's strong in ways you'd never even know.” Thor replied.
Y/n walks up in between Loki and Thor. “Can we not do this we have more oppressing matters.”
“Y/n is right I will not fight with you brother.” Thor turns away from Loki.
“Say goodbye.” Loki voiced.
“Not this day.”
“This day, the next, a hundred years, it's nothing. It's a heart beat. You'll never be ready. The only woman whose love you've prized will be snatched from you.”
“And will that satisfy you?” Thor asked.
“No guys let’s-“
“Satisfaction is not in my nature.” Loki stated.
“Surrender not in mine.” Thor replied.
“The son of Odin.” Loki said dryly.
“No, not just of Odin! You think you alone were loved of mother? You had her tricks, but I had her trust!” Thor shouted.
“Enough!” Y/n yelled. “We have more pressing matters then who had Frigga’s trust you both did. She believed in both of you and she wouldn’t wanting you two to be fighting so can we please table this until Jane Is better.”
Thor walks over to Jane and Loki walks to the other end of the boat.
“Thank you.” Y/n told Loki and Thor.
“I wish I could trust you.” Thor turns his back to Loki.
“Trust my rage.”

I'm so sad and mad about that Geten cheating one 🥺 can I have a second part in wich the reader leaves him please, you can decide who it ends
Because I have hurt you, here I am to fix it anon! And here to save our damaged reader is.... surprise ;) This was so self-indulgent and I aint a bit sorry, I couldn’t resist having my two baby boys fight over our dear reader. xx
You ran, and ran, and ran some more, feet scratched and bruised, hands trembling, sobbing and whimpering from the cold. It had been a miracle you’d gotten away at all, but if you didn’t move, fast, it wouldn’t matter at all. Geten was as possessive a male as you’d ever met, if he caught you after your little escape your punishment would be far worse than death, though if this icy rain didn’t let up it would be pneumonia that got you first. You’d been on two trains, a bus, three cabs, just to put distance between the two of you, but the money you’d stashed had quickly dried up.
Your eyes flickered wildly as you heard footsteps behind you, you sobbed, covering your mouth, and bolting down the nearest alley, ignoring the horrible pain in your feet, rounding a corner and slamming against something warm, something solid, you fell back onto the concrete, whimpering as you grazed your knuckles, eyes flashing up in terror to the strange mask he wore, crawling backwards in terror, hitting the alley wall and curling in on yourself. That mask, you knew those masks, the Hassaiki wore them, you’d just in to a goddamn yakuza member, of all the luck. You kept your eyes trained down even as your heard him step closer, you felt, rather than saw, him lean down so you two were eye level.
Footsteps sounded on the opposite side then and your head flashed up, eyes meeting with icy irises, features etched with rage, ice crackling over his head as you sobbed and crawled viciously back, staggering to your feet to run only to collide with the man in the white coat again, who, to his credit, swept an arm carefully around your waist and pressed you behind him gently, mask turning to face your lover as he stalked forward, before going very still.
A moment later something flashed from underneath his hood, something silver, cutting a shallow line across Geten’s cheek, who stumbled and fell, eyes snapping up furiously to the man in the coat, but he’d slowed, like he couldn’t move any faster, a quirk. The hooded man turned to you, slowly, mask cocked to the side as if he were curious, before reaching for you, slowly, as if to not startle you, offering his hand. You blinked at him for a moment, then gazed at Geten, still glaring at you from where he was crouched, eyes flashing dangerously.
You took the offered hand, winding your fingers between his and let him pull you close, into his warmth as he walked away from the ice wielder behind the two of you, other arm wrapping tightly around your waist to help you keep pace, when he noticed your limp, however, he stopped quickly, eyes flashing down, taking note of your bloody feet, before lifting you off your feet, despite your spluttered yelp of surprise. You barely fought him, he was stronger than you were, had a quirk that could incapacitate, clearly, and you were so fucking exhausted.
Your tears started falling again then, sobbing softly, head turned to his chest to hide away somehow, and a warm hand pressed to your head comfortingly. “You’re alright now little one”, his voice was light, not at all deep and snarly like you’d grown so used to, it made you shiver, but you were glad, it was fitting somehow. Your eyes drooped in exhaustion, his careful strides lulling you to sleep even as you tried in vain to fight against it. “Sleep, I’ve got you”, was the last thing you heard before you drifted off in his warm arms. I didn’t ask his name.
When you woke, you were wrapped up in a blanket, in a warm bed. Your feet didn’t hurt as much, when you yanked the blanket off them, they had been bandaged carefully, you nearly sobbed just at that. Your bruises had clearly had some kind of ointment rubbed into them; they had faded amazingly. The small cuts littering your legs and arms had been coated in antiseptic and bandaged, your blinked and sat up slowly, legs shaky. You glanced around, the room was squeaky clean, pristine even, it made you shiver nervously, where were you?
The door opened, and you flinched backwards, sitting right up the edge of the bed, against the wall, nerves on fire, waiting for whatever horror was about to come through the door. It was the man in the white coat, with the strange bird like mask on his face, you tried to ignore the relief that flooded through you when you realised it was him. He closed the door behind him, fingers dancing over the light-switch, giving you warning before he flicked it on. You blinked sleepily, eyes flickering to his mask, watching nervously as he reached up slowly to pull it away from his face. He sat it gently on the dresser, flicking his hood back and turning to look at you.
You drank him in, from his silver hair, oddly shaped like clock needles, to his brilliant silver eyes, the sharp jawline, if you’d been in any state of mind to be stable, you’d be able to appreciate how beautiful he was, maybe even pursue him, but you weren’t ready, your body still stiff and terrified. He might have saved you from Geten, but he could be just as sadistic as he had been, you didn’t know him, so you cast your eyes down nervously, and waited.
“I don’t really know what happened to you, who you are, who that scum up there in the alley was, but you’re safe here, I promise”. His voice was soft, kept carefully even so as not to startle you. “I’ve spoken to our boss, Overhaul, you might have heard of him”? You had, and he terrified you. He must have read that in your expression because he shook his head lightly, a soft smile aimed your way, “you’ve nothing to fear from him so long as you don’t cause trouble or make a mess”. You relaxed slightly, eyes flicking up to meet his gaze nervously.
He cocked his head at you, biting his bottom lip gently as he smiled. “I promise, no one here will hurt you, you’re safe with us”. You whimpered at that, eyes falling shut as tears dripped down your cheeks, tugging your knees up to your chest as you sobbed. You felt the bed dip, but didn’t look at him, not until that warm hand caressed your cheek with a gentleness you hadn’t seen in years. It made you want to melt against him, though you dismissed the notion instantly. You didn’t pull away from the soft touch though, allowing him to continue stroking your cheek softly, his eyes glittering angrily at the faint outline of what you were sure was a week-old bruise.
You closed your eyes then, leaning your head softly against his chest in a daring show of trust, he’d saved you after all, and he was so warm. He carded his fingers slowly, carefully through your tangled hair, humming softly under his breath, fingers scratching soothingly at your scalp, lulling you into a warm bubble of safety. “I’m Hari, by the way”, he whispered softly against your head. You nearly let yourself smile, Hari, it was a lovely name, it suited his delicate, boyish features. You blinked exhaustedly and glanced around curiously again.
“If you don’t like the room, I can probably find you another that would suit your needs better”. You blinked in amazement, mouth dropping open as your eyes met his, this room… was yours? You blinked back a few more tears, eyes watching him warily as he brushed a few away with a slender finger, eyes full of warmth, affection, all things you had long forgotten existed. “It’ll be okay, eventually”, he whispered softly to you, smiling softly as you crumpled against him again, sinking into the warm embrace, already growing addicted to the tenderness of it.
“Geten”, you chocked out, body trembling in terror even as he rubbed your back soothingly, shaking his head, eyes glittering with an emotion you couldn’t name.
“I dealt with it, I struck him with the short hand, gave us plenty of time to get away. He’ll never find us down here, and even if he did somehow manage it, the Boss would kill him”. He sounded so sure, so calm, so completely not concerned about the possibility of your power-hungry ex-lover coming storming into their base. “Stop thinking about it, I promise you’re safe from him now”, his voice was calm, soothing, like running water, so lovely to listen to. You relaxed in his embrace again without meaning to, eyes falling closed, exhaustion winning out as his nimble fingers scratched slow circles across your back.
Maybe people did get second chances after all…
