(post Akuze rehab banter)
The first acute pain flare up James witnessed in Reda completely shifted his perception of where in her recovery process she was, and what side effects clouded the way for her. For him, it was pretty straight forward: wrack ACL, get surgery, let the shit heal, build back mobility and strength, be done. He had let himself be fooled at first to assume the same was true for Reda – having met her during a relatively good episode. But he was quickly brought back down to earth witnessing her state over the past few days.
Now, on the end of day four since the flare up, he finally began to see some light at the end of the tunnel. While Reda was still bed bound, at least she was sitting, she didn’t need sensory depriving aids anymore, and pain management seemed to be working. She was even up for some light conversation, or at least endured him talking bullshit to keep her entertained. She’d even signed a few words.
All the things he’d taken for granted with her just days ago – sitting, walking, talking, excercising. Until that house of cards had collapsed, because things just weren’t that simple.
James insisted on keeping her company during his time off, spending the free time in between treatment by her bed, even though she’d told him he didn’t need to waste his time like this. He’d swallowed the impulse to argue with her about that and just reassured her it was fine for him. Because it was, and it felt like the most valuable thing he could do with his free time at this very moment.
And he didn’t intend to leave just now.
When the door swooshed open and nurse Kalyani entered the room carrying a small tray of jelly, James sat up a little more upright, trying to get himself into a posture that was slightly more impressive, a little more manly, and put up his best flirty face. He’d seen the disgusted microexpression on Reda’s face knowing what was to come, and he was eager to brighten the mood by hook or by crook.
He gestured towards the tray.
“Hey, any chance I can get one of those?”
Reda frowned at his words, but her eyes were rivet to the object of her hatred sitting on the table board in front of her. Jelly time was a nightmare. Eating, in general, was. But this tasteless, gunky, undefined substance of nauseating consistence was a particular joy four times a day for her, when she was taken out by pain or other complications.
Kalyani side-eyed the bulky marine in the chair beside her patient’s bed. She’d seen him around here a number of times by now, and while she was no fan of his attitude, as long as he kept a low profile towards Reda she tolerated his presence, knowing having a friendly face around was beneficial for her.
“Pretty please?”, James added with a smirk on his lips.
Kalyani handed him one of the spare cups of clear jelly from the tray.
The smirk on James’ face grew into a grin. “Any chance I could get a bigger one, you know, proper for my size?” He gestured with both hands forming a circle around the tiny cup that was about eight times the diameter.
“Don’t stretch your luck, Mr. Vega.”
Reda slid her own tiny cup of jelly down the table towards James, and earned a warning glance from the nurse.
“And you don’t stretch my patience, Reda”, Kalyani dunned her.
“Worth a try”, Reda muttered, making James snicker.
“No worries, nurse Kalyani, I’ll make sure to not touch hers. Even if you hurt my feelings with this tiny portion of a deliciously tasteless treat.”
Kalyani snorted and shook her head. Then, looking at Reda, she said “I’ll be back at half past with your meds.”

Adopting one of my characters
Okay so @thecomfywriter Uno reversed my ask on me here, so here we go.
I desperately want to adopt Faine. He already has an adopted mother and she's great but honestly this man just has so much trauma that he needs to be readopted as an adult. That's breaking the rules of my own game though, so I can't say him. (Yes I just spent an entire paragraph talking about how I want to adopt a man who's literally 909 years older than me)
As for someone I actually want to adopt as a child, I would say the Tollemaches, but I can only adopt one and I can't separate them.
Kyro is a great choice, but he's an extremely obscure side character that might not even show up in the main book, depending on how I structure the series.
Switching books for a second, adopting the mc from Like A Movie would probably be good for him. He hasn't told me anything about his childhood, but I get the sense he wasn't loved enough.
Switching back to What's Your Story because I want to give it attention, I have so many traumatized characters that I would absolutely adopt, but a lot of them have siblings that they wouldn't want to leave behind. I would adopt Briley, since she doesn't get adopted until she's thirteen, but her adopted family is so sweet and I wouldn't want to take her from that.
I think at the moment my top option has to be Kalyani. She doesn't appear in the story for a good long while though, so you guys won't hear about her much. Sorry!
Since I mentioned Like A Movie up there I might as well briefly touch on my other wips.
The Director probably needs adopting from Appearances Are Deceiving, he didn't exactly have an easy childhood.
There are so many sad children in We All Lie Amongst The Thorns that it would be extremely unfair to choose one.
I don't think any of the MCs in Nearly Parallel Lives needs adopting. Oh scratch that actually, Bren does, definitely.
The kids in Survival Is A Team Sport have loving parents, they just get separated during the apocalypse.
I can't think of anyone that needs adopting in The Enchanted Forests at all. Arcana might, but I don't know what her childhood was like.
And that's all. Sorry for the ramblings lol

Kundavai: The Thirukoilur Malayaman clan hates beauty, they think it is the enemy of valour.
Malayaman: And, your father was also Arinjayan's only son. He was handsome as Manmatha when he was your age. Neither in the Chozha family nor in any other princely family in Tamil Nadu was there anybody as handsome . . . Kings and petty chieftains from Lanka to the Vindhyas performed penance in order to be worthy enough to offer their daughters to him in marriage. Neither the men or the women in my clan are known for their looks. The more battle scars our men had, the more handsome they were considered. And for our women, chastity and character were the ornaments, signs of beauty.
Malayaman brought up Vanamadevi by telling her that she was ugly, in a period when women were valued a lot for their beauty. It isn't like he inculcated confidence and independence in her by saying that such superficial things don't matter. He doubled down that women of his clan compensated for their lack of beauty by strictly following other regressive practises.
Vanamadevi too thought that beauty s an essential part of a woman's life. When Sundara Cholan expressed displeasure for dragging Mandakini to the palace, she asked her daughter to groom and beautify Mandakini.
The Emperor's disgust was evident in the way he referred to Mandakini as 'this'. Disappointed, Kundavai looked at her father . . . Malayaman's daughter came up to Kundavai and whispered, "My child! Isn't she unbearable to look at. What is the point in being angry with your father? Come, let's see how skillful you are in the art of making her beautiful."
Unfortunately, it worked very well.
He (Sundara Cholan) was full of appreciation for Kundavai's skill at makeup. "You have transformed a wild looking being into Indirani of Devalokam. But did you have to choose an old woman like this? Can't you demonstrate your skill on young girls like Vanathi?" he teased.
Vanamadevi must have spent her whole life feeling ugly and unworthy of Sundara Cholan. Her father was a regressive pos even for 10th century and her husband (who talks about his lover in his sleep) was the most handsome man in the three worlds. She must have consoled herself that whatever affection she got was a big deal because Sundaran deserved and prefered prettier women.
Probably Malayaman threw a party when she burnt herself on her husband's funeral pyre and boasted that his daughter was more pious and chaste than older widows from inferior clans, like Kalyani Devi (Arinjayan's wife) and Sembiyan Madevi.

shrek- a rather ideal review
*note: solely for humour purposes*
‘shrek’- a beautiful movie made by disney, depicting that love can come in many forms and ways. ‘fiona’ a young princess driven by love and the urge to shed her unruly form to become ‘human’, now forced to accompany ‘shrek’, a swamp monster as he delivers her to a rather ant sized prince.
a guy with no feelings, a girl with secrets and a prince who wants to see through the eyes of not so small people. as shrek loses his swamp, he travels far and fights a dragon to free the princes to get his swamp back. can this story become more exhilarating?
yes it can, shrek was accompanied by a beautiful and noble talking donkey, who seemed to only know how to while away time by continuously chatter throughout the journey.
at the end we learn that fiona had chosen swamp life over human life for the love she for the monster she had known for barely a week. since it was true love it was acceptable.
the donkey had also had it's happy ending- with the dragon that shrek had to defeat.

whos callistus??
CALLISTUS LUMOIRA!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's one of my newest ocs! He uses he/she pronouns and she's a guard/scout/animal handler. She super hates talking to people and talking in general and he doesn't do much in the realm of facial expressions. He's a high elf ranger and works for nobility in her city! She's not . Mean. But she comes across like it. A lot. Very monotone. He has a twin named Kalyani (they/them)! They call each other Cal/Kal because they think it's funny. Cal won't respond to anyone else calling him Cal tho. That's only for Kalyani. Kalyani is a bard/ranger!
Cal's like 6'2" and wears a lot of green and brown. She spends a lot of time hanging out with animals or hiding in trees when she's not working! He's honestly living his dream job but literally no one except his boss, his sibling, and his moms believe that. She just kinda looks mad all the time bc her resting face is a bit of a frown.
Also he's autistic ! Cal and Kal are autism adhd solidarity. Kalyani talks a Lot, Callistus doesn't, and every time they're on a job together, people think Kalyani is bugging Cal. They're not. Callistus is super invested in all of the stories ever. She just also really loves her job and doesn't make many expressions.
<3 I haven't gotten to play Cal yet, but he's one of those characters I have fully developed and ready to go at the drop of a hat. One of my dnd groups do oneshots every now and then with different dms each time because we're all super invested in storytelling, so we have our main campaign (the one with Oskar), and then the oneshots! We've only done one so far, but we have another one on monday! That one's gonna have Deborah in it!
To quote my pms, "Cal is like. Nearly the perfect guard/scout/knight/soldier/whatever . He follows directions Perfectly (autistic), he doesn't ask too many questions (autistic), he knows a lot about his job (autistic), he doesn't get emotionally attached easily (autistic), and he's content to sit in silence in a tree for hours on watch (autistic)"

[ad_1] left: Bengal head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla. Right: Suraj Singh Jaiswal, centurion for Bengal against Punjab. -Shamik Chakrabarty at Eden Gardens Bengal signed off with a bang, winning by an innings and 13 runs against Punjab and clinching seven points from this Ranji Trophy game at Eden Gardens. It took their points tally to 21 from seven group league matches. But they fell behind Kerala and Haryana in Elite Group C, and failed to qualify for the knockouts. From Bengal’s perspective, the washed out game against Bihar in Kalyani would rankle. It was a seven-pointer for the hosts. But the ground wasn’t covered and rain on the match-eve put paid any chances of play over the next four days. That said, batting implosions in both innings (85 all out in the second) against Haryana didn’t do Bengal any favours. Actually, this has been a mixed bag season for them. Away from home, against good teams like Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, they held sway. At the same time, Bengal failed to show the winning mentality in matches where a little more cutting edge could have given them some extra points. The fixture against Kerala was an example. The mitigating factor was the absence of a few key players for a good chunk of the season. Abhimanyu Easwaran, the team’s best batsman, was with the Indian team in Australia. Then, a finger injury ruled him out of the last two group league matches. Akash Deep has become a regular in the Indian team in red-ball cricket and Bengal will have to learn to cope with his absence. Mukesh Kumar was a travelling reserve in Australia and picked up a niggle after returning home. Shahbaz Ahmed, the spin-bowling all-rounder, too, suffered an injury. After the win against Punjab, Bengal head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla’s team-talk was positive. He praised the boys and urged them to improve next season. Asked by RevSportz if he would continue as head coach, Shukla said: “I haven’t thought about it yet.” He is set to write an email to the BCCI, offering a few suggestions. “I would write an email soon, asking the BCCI not to schedule the Ranji Trophy matches in the East Zone in October,” Shukla said at the post-match press conference. “The monsoon is still not over in our part of the world in October. Matches get washed out and teams suffer.” The second point in Shukla’s email would focus on playing the group league matches in the Ranji Trophy at one go. “The Ranji Trophy is our premier domestic tournament, a stepping stone for Test cricket and the group league matches should be played at a stretch,” he said. The Ranji Trophy fixtures this term had two halves. After the first five rounds, there was a pause for the white-ball tournaments – Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. Red-ball cricket returned for the final two group league rounds in January. Also, Shukla’s suggestion would include a rejig in India A selection policy. “Players like Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Kishore – those who are nearing thirty – shouldn’t be considered for the India A team. They have played enough for India A. Now, if they are to be picked for the Indian team, that should be based on their performances in domestic cricket. Young and upcoming players should be picked for India A.” Coming back to Bengal’s game against Punjab, the third day’s play started an hour late due to bad light. Punjab resumed on 62/3, needing another 88 runs to avoid the innings defeat. They folded for 139 in their second innings to concede a bonus point. Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal returned with 4/69. His new-ball partner Sumit Mohanta took 3/29. Jaiswal was the Player-of-the-Match for his century and an eight-wicket match haul. “Our batsmen failed to show the required application,” Punjab coach Wasim Jaffer lamented. Brief scores: Punjab 191 and 139 all out (Mayank Markande 31; Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal 4/69, Sumit Mohanta 3/29) lost to Bengal 343 by an innings and 13 runs Points: Bengal 7, Punjab 0 Also Read: A flying catch by the keeper ends Wriddhiman Saha’s career

Nicknames: K, Aly, Yani, Ani, Amara
Faceclaim: Simone Ashley
Gender & Pronouns: Cis-Woman, she/her
Age: 32
Birthday: March 30, 1992
Lyric/chorus: Give it to your sister, your sister's older. Give her all the heavy things we can't shoulder. Who am I if I can't run with the ball?
Occupation: Assistant Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse
Neighborhood: ArrowCreek (in the process of moving to Meadowood)
Her Story:
TW: cancer, parental death, death of a patient, pregnancy
The Valkkaiyal family is one of the founding families in Reno, the healer family has strong connections in the medical field and have for many generations. The last name comes from the words in Tamil meaning life science.
Kalyani Amara Valkkaiyal, meaning good fortune, eternal, life science is the eldest daughter of the Valkkaiyal family. As one of the founding families, as much history in their lineage as they do secrets. As the eldest daughter she was tasked with being the perfect one. Raised to be strong and controlled with emotions. Raised to never falter or make mistakes. The smallest mistake is a sign of weakness, a sign of failure, a sign that you failed to be better. Her father was a Doctor in Neurology, while her mother used to be chief of nursing. Talk about big shoes to fill, the pressure got more intense when her sibling was born. She was tasked with being a perfect influence as her sibling is supposed to look up to their older sister for advice and leadership. However, while they are looking up to her, who is looking after Kalyani.
At the age of 15, she had interned at a hospital. She was given the Oncology unit. She thought it was a very strange unit to give a teenager but she took it as a sign to learn and gain more experience. During this time she befriended an older lady with terminal cancer, the more they talked the more she learned more about life and everything in between. She remembered the day she passed, the older woman had mentioned she wished her son could have stopped by. The last thing she said was she hoped their conversations meant something to Kalyani as they did her. She passed before she could respond. This was the first time she cried.
This encounter changed something for her. When she entered nursing she aimed and worked to get into the Oncology Unit. Even if she couldn’t cure it, she would hope that she can at least ease the pain of her patients.
There was one patient she couldn’t ease the pain for and that was her father. Despite the strict upbringing which she knows was partly because he wanted her to be successful, she hopes that was the reason. She saw the light from his eyes disappear as he took his last breath.
After his death, she struggled trying to find meaning and how to move on. She started losing herself and going out partying which resulted in an ONS. This resulted in her pregnancy. Her mother was disappointed but helped her in any way she could which resulted in her having her first born child.
She realized she had to make better choices for her child. When her child was born she continued to work as a nurse to climb up the ladder. She worked hard to provide for both her child and her as a single mom. She is in the process of moving to be independent and make her father and everyone else proud.
Wanted Connections:
Patients
Co workers
Friends
Enemies
FWB/EWB
The ONS that resulted in her child

The two duos, one metal-clad, the other leather, approach each other across the black sand.
L: By the way, they are Gish and her brother, Gash. They never told me their names; Melandria did.
D: Spoiler.
L: What? You should already know I talk to her; that's the whole point of the story!
"Why are you out here?" asks Gish.
"Where do you think you are?" asks Gash.
"Both questies: we're lost in the Underdank," says Ling, she gestures for Kalyani to answer.
"Quite," says the priestess, "If you could point uss in the directshion of the nearesst town, we'd apprecciate it."
"That symbol," says Gash, "That eyeball you're wearing... What manner of follower are you?"
"Do you know it, brother?" asks Gish. She reaches for her sword, but before she draws it, Gash answers.
"That's the Love God's Eye," he says, "So how do you serve her?"
"Oh, you know her?" asks Kalyani, fluttering her eyes. She slithers toward Gash. "Are you a follower too?"
"Brother," Gish voices tings with annoyance.
"Let him have some fun, mate," says Ling, scampering up to Gish, "Yous two alone out here?"
J: I should have known. You're a wizard, Mum; don't you have stories about succeeding through... you know, wizardry?
L: Magic isn't the only answer to problems, Jevoi.
"No, we-" Gish cuts herself off, "Why are you really here? What do you think you're doing?"
"What do you want me to do?" asks Ling, still sauntering forward. Lacking the ability to flutter, she quickly licks her eyes instead. At the moment, she has no idea where this will lead, but it is succeeding as a distraction.
Gish takes a step backward. Out of the corner of her eye, she spots Kalyani encircling Gash.
"Perhapss, we've not been honesst," whispers Kalyani, "The Goddesss ssent uss."
"Somebody needs our help," says Ling, "Is it ya?" Ling gets up to Gish's faceplate. "A big strong woman like you shouldn't be alone."
"I- I'm not," says Gish, "My brother and I-"
"Brother doesn't count, mate," says Ling, now fully confident, "Let's see those eyes of yours." Ling places her hands on Gish's helmet, who does not resist. Ling carefully remove it and looks upon Gish's battle-scarred tallgoblin face. "Looks like ya had some bark taken off, eh?" Ling gently traces her claw down the diagonal scars; they clearly came from a claw attack.
Gish face contorts. "Would- would you like to see," she says, struggling to keep her strong warrior demeanor, "My other ones?"
"I'd love to," says Ling.
L: Long story short: they let us into the tower and we kept them distracted for a bit.

The Sacred Significance of the Triveni Sangam
he Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad) is one of India's holiest and most revered locations, where the sacred rivers Ganges (Ganga), Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati converge. This confluence is considered a spiritual epicenter, drawing millions of devotees and pilgrims, especially during the Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, held every 12 years. The Kumbh Mela 2025, scheduled to take place in Prayagraj, promises to be an extraordinary event, attracting a vast number of people seeking blessings, performing sacred rituals, and experiencing the profound energy of the Sangam.
