you’re minding your own business, sipping a cocktail and chatting with one of your friends, when a pair of large hands land on your waist. “hey,” sid mumbles, low and plain. he turns you to face him, one hand pinching your chin between his thumb and forefinger. 

you aren’t aware of it, but the college guy to your left has been eyeing your ass for a solid ten minutes now. he's younger, closer to your age. he probably thinks he could fuck you properly. little does he know how good you already have it.

Rumple: Right off the bat I think this could be controversial, but Villain/Jester feels so much more true to his character than if I’d tried to stick Magician somewhere in there. He’s SILLY

Regina: Unfortunately there’s no Horse Girl type so we’re going basic for her. I actually changed my mind from when I posted (the crusty versions of) these on bluesky, I think Witch/Queen fits her vibe more than Villain/Queen.

Belle: Just Hero/Princess does her such a disservice imo but I couldn’t just leave her out ☹️ if there was like a “Scholar” type or smth she’d be Hero/Scholar

Snow: Self explanatory but I just want to say that I stan her bad S1 Enchanted Forest wig 🤍

Red: Also self explanatory and I FORGOT HOW MUCH I LIKED HER WHERE TF WAS SHE IN LATER SEASONS

Emma: I debated a lot over this one but I think Hero/Divine fits best with how both the characters and the narrative treat her. Still feels a little weird to me but I’m sure she also feels weird going from “bail bondswoman Emma Swan” to “🕊️✨The Savior✨🕊️”

a thing i'm really enjoying about Grantchester so far is how unflinchingly the show depicts geordie keating's racism, his misogyny, and especially his easy violence towards women, without trying to get us to ~understand~ it or take his side in it, and whilst equally showing his more tender side

geordie loves and dotes on his wife, weeps at the potential loss of one of his babies, cares deeply for and fusses over his children, likes dogs and animals, cares for and is very affectionate for sidney, and also is a violent, cruel cop who relishes wielding power over others, beating women

i especially like the contrast between when he's with other police, where he usually sits back and watches, or even gives orders while another cop acts, in scenes of violence toward witnesses or suspects, versus when he's alone or with sidney, where he's the actor in those scenes

it's just a very intentional and very incisive depiction of how much his masculinity as a 1950s white british veteran soldier, within the police force, is bound up in his colonial desires and especially his relationship with violence, contrasted with sidney's age, vocation, etc

so many shows are really scared of fully depicting the depths of this sort of violent man because they worry about making him unlikable or unwatchable to the viewer, so they only have like, an episode or two of racism and then they magically learn the error of their ways and become bumbling allies

or they lean fully into it and depict that violence as like, an unfortunate necessity for Good Policework or being able to Cope, etc

this show is just. refreshingly complex in its layers, despite from the outside seeming to have a quaint and absurd central concept of a priest helping the cops

Sidney's a Popularity sim, a Libra, and an alternative/historical fashion nerd. He's transmasc (he/they) and bi. Personality points and TNTs under the cut.

His lifetime want is to Own Five Top-Level Businesses - he's got a moderately successful costume shop, but he'd like to set up his shingle as a shoemaker. And as a haberdasher. And as a corsetier, and an armoursmith, and and and you get the idea. The boy's full of grand plans that he flits from, second to second. He also flits from fashion style to fashion style- he's most fond of wa lolita right now, but he's just as likely to show up in a doublet and cape or in a Regency suit.

Sidney's Absent-Minded, Artistic, Nurturing, a Cat Person, and a Natural-Born Salesman. If there was a Manic Pixie Dream Boy trait, he'd be that too.

He really admires that Lorelei wants to become a social worker- he spent a little bit of time in foster care after his single mom was arrested for a crime she didn't commit. Everything worked out in the end, but he's seen how bad things can get and he admires anyone who wants to make them better. He also enjoys cats, coffee, and good music, and it seems like their tastes line up.

Thinking again about this post again thanks to a new (to me) period mystery / drama I’m watching.

Just. Sid being shipped off to Kembleford once the government catches up to him. He’s standing in a line with the other children, waiting. The good looking kids go first. Then the strong ones.
