Rehabilitation Path

While researching about a villain's parentage as Oracle, Babs discovered that the Information about Amity Park is blocked (maybe is the GIW, maybe is Tucker or an aftermath of Technus shenanigans in the city).

She realizes that she can't investigate about this random place and get concerned, so she decides to investigate it in person. But since is just a reconnaissance mission to understand the technological block she didn't tell the bats, why would she?

When she arrives there, she saw all the things happening: the teen hero, ghosts invasion, government cover-up, etc.

But that's not the worst part, because she also saw that something was happening with the town hero: He was moving like he couldn't see halfway, stumbling, missing his aim, his coordination was obviously failing and the blind spot was so obvious to her!

So instead of telling Bruce or the League as she should, she decided to talk to him. The boy told her that he had a really bad accident and he still felt the aftermath (like her)

When Babs asked him if he had done rehab to recover and he shrugged saying that his powers had fixed it, she was horrified. It seemed that no one had taken the time to give him rehabilitation therapy, a few days in the hospital and he was considered cured!

The boy also admitted about losing sight in one of his eyes over time, but not doing anything because he felt ashamed about it. The boy thought that this disability made him less valuable in combat, that when he recognized it, he would have to stop being a hero! Babs couldn't help but get annoyed with whoever put such a stupid thought in the teenager's head.

So she made up her mind: She would teach that boy about the good path to recovery, and show him that an accident didn't have to ruin his life, she would teach him to to be proud of his newfound disability, because that didn't stop her from being a hero and it wouldn't stop him either.

I'll have to find the post that touched on this later but it made me think; the whole Glorious Evolution thing + battle probably didn't do much to really connect the cities because, if we assume the council tries to just blow over all the events (especially since Caitlyn is no longer on it) then it's again, a Zaun vs Piltover conflict.

Because:

Everything was "fine" down in the fissures where Viktor/The Herald was healing and keeping peace. The only people who really knew the awful effects are either "dead"/missing (Viktor, Jayce, Jinx) leaving the country (Mel) or have other things to worry about (Caitlyn, Ekko, Vi). Correcting the narrative is likely not on the list of things to do.

Then, the "Man of Progress" came, killed the guy healing everyone, and that's where everything went wrong. Things, to most people's perspective, only got bad after that event. Their Herald only became "evil" after a Piltover man shot him.

Then they get roped into this battle against Noxus (lead by the mother of one of the council members, no less) and lose a lot of their people. Then the two main "leaders" of each side dies/disappears (if you can say Viktor was really leading anyone or just doing it all by himself).

So now its like another versus: Did Jayce Talis save the day, or did he ruin a good thing and almost doom the universe and have to clean his mess up? Piltover would clearly take Jayce's side, and most of Zaun would take Viktor's, because they have no reason to believe (and it's rightful they don't believe) a thing anyone from Piltover tells them.

Like: to the Zaunites, Jayce Talis came and shot up a seemingly peaceful guy healing everyone, and only then did that guy descend into madness. There's no way any of them are believing anything otherwise, because the two people who know the whole truth are gone (Viktor and Jayce). (Ya know, unless Jayce told that small meeting room everything, which makes the tale to tell even wilder)

*puts on my Professor glasses* Macky really knows EXACTLY how to talk to Wukong, let's dissect it! M: Looks like things are going smoothly. W: I say, you've been here the whole time, haven't you? M: FFM is your home, but it's also mine. W: Did you find anything? M: Still nothing, however. Now the Jade Emperor is no longer present. The Celestial Realm already gives me an unsettling feeling. M: Wukong...that kid. W: I understand. M: You have to go and talk to him. W: I know! But...he still isn't ready. M: I see. You're the one who isn't ready, yet. How did you even become a teacher! M: He has to be. We all have to be realistic. W: He's just a kid. We can't let him... M: Who says he's just a kid! Why is it him? When you chose him, did you know? W: I didn't know, I really didn't know! I just followed...a feeling. M: Are you not the least bit worried?! This child has all of your special powers, and he always runs into trouble. Have you never questioned this before? Not a single person knows where he came from. Is it not strange?! M: We still have no clue as to whoever let out Azure Lion. All your old foes returned in one swoop. Are you not even a little- W: Then what about you? You also suddenly came back. M: Argh- M: I say, someone must be manipulating us behind our backs. Especially Xiaotian. But they still haven't succeeded. W: Then tell me. What about you? M: Tell me do you want my help or not?! / W: Not long ago you were still against me! / M: I see, you're just a- / W: ...after I assume you'll teach me how to train my own disciples? ~ Xiaotian Interupts ~ M: Look. That kid has made you his idol. You're his one true hero, but you... W: But I what? M: He has to understand, he doesn't need to carry these burdens. You have to do better. You can really tell whose the chatty one in this relationship XD Wukong might be a lil annoyed, but he's tolerant. And Macky is a little playful turd as always. Where Wukong gets gloomy and concerned, Mac swaps between teasing and serious in a blink. Then things get a lot more strained and tense, but unlike their previous fights, it never escalates into violence. Never a growl, never a raised fist. They're right at the edge, and they drop it. I'm very much interested in the psychology of arguments and when it comes to people latching onto (1) thing a person says and relating it slightly off topic to avoid talking about that other thing, like Wukong is doing here. It's so cool seeing how physical they are in trying to visibly control their emotions around each other, and how they keep trying to hold themselves back from tearing in further, always pausing and halting, and switching to another thing. They're TRYING. Ugh. I think Mac was trying to give a comforting smile at the end, but it's kinda warped by the whole ~ everything else. ~ Anyhow, I like how this starts with Wukong establishing, or rather cementing to Macaque that he believes MK is a kid. And while Macaque argues against that, he did also say before that Wukong should talk to him. And they have their squabble, with Mac pushing Wukong's buttons to get him to say something, BUT the fact this gets resolved with he needs to understand he doesn't need to carry these burdens. YOU HAVE TO DO BETTER. Like of all things Mac could have chosen. He's playing right into what Wukong himself believes, that will overwrite the "MK isn't ready" thing. Because let's face it. Mac is right when he says Wukong also isn't ready for that talk yet. He's so down throughout all this, Wukong probably feels himself that he needs to be better. AND by appealing to the fact MK is a kid, without explicitly stating that, just a statement that cannot be denied, BUT is a subject that undoubtedly, even Wukong cannot avoid. Because he wants better for MK. For him to not walk down the same path as him. Macaque has basically nudged Wukong into having that talk he wanted with MK by reframing it differently from what Wukong wasn't ready for. Thoughts? Critique?

so, anon, you said Macky knows how to talk to Wukong and yeah agreed but for me it’s for of the sense of “Macky knows how to get his words under Wukong’s skin”

he knows how to let his words sink in and fester in Wukong’s mind, making him reconsider things or another to help speed up certain decisions or choices Wukong is hesitating on. and ain’t it fascinating how despite how long it’s been since either character have talked or interacted with each other, they still know the ins and outs of their behavior and thoughts.

Macky knows Wukong needs to talk to MK but is holding back. Macky after one answer from Wukong realizes that it’s Wukong who isn’t ready for that conversation and switches tactics to try and breach that mental block

Wukong, in a need to avoid the conversation, brings up the questions surrounding Macky’s reason for even being alive again because that is information neither have talked about and oh hey! Macky is avoiding that conversation too! and it’s an important one to have so he pushes for it, but Macky knows it’s being pushed to avoid their original discussion and is annoyed bc “classic Wukong, never wanting to delve too deep into topics where he’ll need to be vulnerable for” (especially when said vulnerability is with his newly re-allied ex friend Macaroni himself)

Aurorum the Blind Sage Gender: Male Background: Aurorum used to be a renowned member of the imperial Noble Court. As a younger dragon he was a lot more pretentious and foolish, he had an obsession with material wealth and appearances, wasting his money to showing off his status as a member of the highest elite in the Empire. Then one day he completely lost his eyes because in an accident caused by his own greed. Without his vision he was no longer capable of holding his position in the Noble Court, his superficial possessions became absolutely meaningless and made him start to reevaluate his life and the company he was around. Despite being blind he began to notice certain things more clearly; how blatantly shallow he and the other Nobles were, the hollowness behind their words and sympathies, and the cracks in the system he had perpetuated. At first he was desperate to see again and make all of these new sensations go away but he started to realize he was truly blind before and was now finally seeing He decided from that point that he needed to turn his life around. With his rank and money he could have lived very comfortably from here on out, instead he decided to give up his wealth and dedicate the life to helping others. He's still on friendly enough terms with some of the imperial court and noble class who still recognize him as one of them but others just see him as a poor old man who fell from grace. Auroram is much more proud of the people he has helped than any title or possession he once held but he still feels like he has not done enough until he has reformed the Noble Court. Personality: Aurorum used to be Arrogant and obsessed with how he presents himself. Now he is a lot more humble and kind. He doesn't care anymore how dragons think he looks or how well he presents himself, he can't see anyway so he sees no point in it. Instead he cares a lot more about how he is able to help better the lives of others. Strengths: Perceptive, Empathic, Can read the intentions of others very clearly Weaknesses: Blind, Non-Combative, Can't Hide his Emotions at all Powers: Light Stats Elemental Energy: 5/10

His energy is about average which is pretty good especially for somebody who's not combative. Elemental Control: 1/10 He can't perceive light anymore so it's very hard to control his element in any form, however he is still able to change the colors on his body and glow instinctively. His Colors, Patterns, and Glow will change with his mood. Intelligence: 7/10

He has become a lot wiser in his old age. He has a great deal of understanding of court politics and running an Empire. He also has gotten a better at intuition for understanding the intentions of other dragons. Combat Ability: 2/10 He is a Blind older Dragon and a former high noble without much in the way any real combat experiences

HOWEVER!!!!! esp w the sote angle Miquella Traveling To The Realm Of Shadow *that* is what it is, right?? miquella built the haligtree sanctuary for her and all the other dispossessed, but her rot is already infecting it. corrupting it. it's in the treetops where you enter and down at the very roots where she rests. so miquella enters cocoon stasis bc he has to be better, different. different from marika and her golden order. which is why he travels to the lands of shadow, to learn of marika and her origins while in the meantime malenia is out fighting, conquering (the less she is at the haligtree the better) but then the caelid disaster happens & puts her in godslumber & finlay carries her back to the haligtree into the sanctum where she continues to sleep literally until you enter. the rot has taken her eyes. and mohg has taken miquella's cocoon while she was away, but there is no way for her to know that; she is defending this location on instinct. she doesn't know her brother is gone, and miquella doesn't know you killed his sister (yet !) :))

I know a common conception of Miles’ Peter Parker is like. If only Peter had survived, he would have understood me. Peter wouldn’t be treating me like these other Spider-men. My Peter would have understood. Which is, of course, an idea I love, because Miles desperately needs more people in his corner after the events of ASTV.

But what if Miles’ Peter wasn’t like that? What if RIPeter came back and he was just like all those other Spider-Men, but different? What if Miles if convinced Peter is going through a “came back but wrong” plotline and Miles just has to find some cure to make Peter magically understand but Peter didn’t come back wrong. He came back exactly where he left off- watching some scared little kid who doesn’t know how to handle his powers get in way over his head. So Peter is handling it exactly like he handles every other problem he faces- confidently, perfectly, because he’s been Spider-Man for the past sixteen years and even though it killed him he’s still good at his job.

What if Peter is also convinced he’s different? He’s not like those other Spider-Men, he’s different, he died and came back, he’s in this kids’ corner even when nobody else is because same-universe Spider-Men have to stick together, right kiddo? And Miles is so desperate for validation and he trusts his Peter implicitly like no other Spider-Man because he’s built him up in his head as a perfect Spider-Man who doesn’t make mistakes. But even if they’re together against the Spider-Society, that doesn’t mean Peter is respecting Miles as Spider-Man in his own right like he needs to. And now Miles can’t acknowledge it either

I like to think I've gotten pretty good at ignoring opinions I disagree with when it comes to stories I love, but man. All that goes completely out the window when I see someone read The Farthest Shore and immediately, with full sincerity, go WOOOOO YAOI because there were two guys in a boat. Like. I'm not a "let men be friends!!!1!" kinda person, but this really sends me into a rage because 1) the story is so much more meaningful and compelling if you interpret it literally any other way, 2) given the richness of this book's themes and ideas and questions, if THAT'S your main takeaway from it, we live on separate planets and I truly don't know what to say to you, and last but not least 3) ged is in his 40s and arren is a TEENAGER

Who, in all honesty, can resist the badass tol and reckless smol dynamic? Especially when they're as delightful as these two? I especially appreciate that while 5-8 IS kind of serious and grumpy, he also smiles quite a lot. That was a nice surprise tbh. And while Sa Wol is reckless, he has some very nice and serious moments, too.

Long story short, I just really love these characters xD

And I hope you'll enjoy the fic! There isn't a whole lot in the fandom so far, but at least I'm doing my part in fixing that, I guess? xD And it will be a long one! Because my habit of kicking down the door to new fandoms and throwing a whole fucking novel in people's faces is still going strong, it seems.
