Please take the sick and dying photos.
I won't reminisce on the xanthous skin,
The laborous breath or mucus bubbling.
But I never want to forget the tenderness,
The stolen moments of joy,
Or the intimacy of death witnessed.

The river is wild with snowmelt.
Bowed grass like Wind-swept hair
Streaming from her muddy brow, in
Golden braids Wind-woven.
She only laughs at his howling,
Sharp and cold and brittle.
Her veins are flowing icewater,
Whipping will not sting her.
The light snags on her teeth, glistens
On her cheek. Crystal singing.
Lingering snow piles and old cans
Glitter. Trees like thin gray
Fingers comb the sky, and catch it -
A jewel so pure a blue,
It traps the sun inside.

Your soft dark body heaving,
Curled like a heart beating
In the sun. You've slipped from pain
To blissful, sunkist nap. I weep
For your wheezing breath, your hollow sides.
Tears stud your coat like constellations.
You are the entire sky.

I cannot feel and remember at the same time.
As a kid I woke to a wasp sting,
And angry buzzing in my blankets,
Bolted for the door screaming -
My sister cried, "What is it??"
What is it? I just saw!
"I don't know, but I don't like it!"
So my wedding day is a blurry happiness,
My entire childhood a fog.
Please don't take it personally
When the details are lost in the emotional sink
Of my mind. It frustrates me, too.
What happened? I don't know,
I felt it too deeply.
My memories fade
But the way you made me feel
Will last forever.

You whispered in my ear
The rope unwound itself from my waist
The stone sank away.
It doesn't even matter that I
So badly want to die
You touch my heart and it stumbles onward.
