woke up this morning and remembered i had an entire mental breakdown last night about wanting to kidnap my brother because of a really sad fanfic i read and wow that’s just embarrassing

i must be going crazy. that’s what must be happening. a week ago i couldn’t care less about my baby brother. now i’m contemplating how hard it would be to steal a 13-year-old boy and hide him in a college dorm room. i must be listening to adrienne lenker too much. i can’t believe he has to live in that house with our asshole dad while i get to galavant around the city. he deserves better. i’ve never had any sort of paternal instincts before but i could be a good dad for him. i’m going crazy. i’d enroll him in school and make sure he did all his homework. i’d show him good movies and music and keep him off all the scary places on the internet that kids know about but parents don’t. 18 years old and a single father to a middle schooler. i could do it. i wish i could do it. i miss my baby brother. my baby boy.

one of my favorite things that fic writers do is have bernard hilariously identify superheroes incorrectly. just read a fic where bernard walks up to roy and says “i know you’re aqualad, you’re drinking water!” dude it’s comedy gold

i think the thing that a lot of cishet male batman bros misunderstand about batman is that his character HAS to be an optimist in order for the whole thing to work.

this man has seen TERRIBLE things. he sees the worst parts of humanity every single day. any normal person would have given up by now, but he keeps going.

why?

because he LOVES humanity and truly believes that people can change!! yes, the aesthetics are dark and gritty, and he goes around saying “i am vengeance” with a big cape and a cool car and dark colors, but at his core, batman is the ultimate optimist.

you can write as many stories as you want about batman being pushed to his limit, about him going through terrible, awful things, you can write about him being in an absolutely horrible mental state, but if he loses faith in humanity as a whole, YOU AREN’T WRITING HIM RIGHT.

why doesn’t batman kill the joker?

why did he ever agree to work with red hood even though he breaks the no-killing rule?

BECAUSE DEEP DOWN, HE BELIEVES ANYONE CAN CHANGE FOR THE BETTER.

my dad’s a cop. i hate that he’s a cop, and i think he’s an asshole for it, by the way. the city he works in isn’t gotham. not even close. but he was never a particularly optimistic person, and his years of seeing only the bad things that people do have jaded him, made him depressed and paranoid, and he doesn’t think that humanity is good anymore.

batman need to have hope. a batman without hope for a better future just isn’t batman, not really.
