the concept of reputation

so i've been thinking a lot about reputation. and i just realised something. taylor is no longer on the defense. she's not denying that she's done bad (eg, i did something bad, 'i know i make the same mistakes every time,' etc. but she's saying that she is more than ONE thing. she's more than just someone who has done bad. instead she's showing, by example, that she's multi-faceted, as ALL humans are. yes, she's done bad. but is she a bad person? yes, she's been nervous before, but does that make her inherently a nervous person? yes, she's been happy before - but does that mean she's always happy? no. in this day & age people always want to simplify others - and taylor herself has been simplified, to just a 'crazy ex' or just a 'snake' or just ONE of her personality traits, whether they be fictional or true. i think what she's trying to show on reputation is that nobody is 'just good' or 'just bad.' reputation has done an incredible job at being angry, vengeful, sexual, proud, carefree, jealous, anxious and thoughtful all at once. she's no longer saying 'no!! don't call me that! see, i'm actually a good girl!!' she's saying 'call it what you want - because i've been bad, i've been good, i've been sad. i am unapologetically more than one thing.' after a few months of listening and thinking, i feel like i finally understand this album fully and it feels so good ahhh 💕 @taylorswift
