Wax Sealing Stamp Set from Amnibus

Based on the Fullmetal Alchemist series, we present to you the new Sealing Stamp Set.

Replicating the image of Amestris Army's uniform, the set includes a wax stick in the colour navy blue.

The stamp is designed to create the state alchemist's emblem, recreating the same motif used in-universe.

The premium box is gilded with silver leaf, and the inside has the three rules of state alchemists printed on.

This is a tool set used for sealing letters and envelopes since ancient times; apply melted wax onto your desired surface, then finish with pressing the stamp on top of the wax.

Fullmetal Alchemist Exhibition - Hong Kong Exclusive Goods

I have been procrastinating on this, but I have finally gathered all the photos and can post all the details of the HK-exclusive merchandise!

Someone has asked me why some of the goods are of the 2003 license-- it is because they were produced earlier last year as a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the og anime, and not for the exhibition specifically. Still, you can only find them in Hong Kong and some of them are really cool!

Fullmetal Alchemist Exhibition -Hong Kong- Highlights & Cafe Menu

Guess WHO just came back from the fma exhibition today! I am still in my serotonin rush as I type out this post. Upon a mutual's request, I am sharing highlights and key features of this time's exhibition, especially the Hong Kong-only elements. Hope this helps anyone who is considering going and wants to know more about it!

Obligatory Entrance Photo!

Same as the original exhibition in Japan, at the entrance, there's the 20th anniversary Ed & Al figure, a 1:1 Al statue, and an animated transmutation circle that you can pose at.

(It is very hard to get the right timing to put down your hands though, since it moves really fast xD)

Copies of 300+ genka are shown, and as you can see here, translated versions of the comic panels are displayed underneath the framed genka copies, which I think is very nice.

Unfortunately, much like the previous Malaysia exhibit, these are not the original genkas (it's probably too risky to ship them overseas?) but seeing these copies still made me really happy and the set-up is really awesome:) (link to set-up video)

Can't forget the coloured pages, of course! There's also one original signed illustration, but you're not allowed to take pictures of it, which is a bit sad but understandable.

HK limited photo spots (modelled by me):

I am not sure if it's 100% accurate, but from what I have heard these two photo spots are Hong Kong-only. Please correct me if I am wrong!

Left: a wall with Mei's kunai that you can pose in front of and pretend to be Ed gaining back his right arm. Absolutely impossible to take a photo there while maintaining a straight face because it is ungodly hilarious and ridiculous. 6/10

Right: Gate of Truth door curtain near the exit; Very fun to push open and act out another iconic Ed scene (video link), or sit there and speak in a mocking ominous tone. 10/10

Cafe:

After the exhibition, you can find the cafe inside the gift shop area. There are two extra-special items and a few other snacks that you can order; Listing all food items & their prices below!

Because I didn't order the special items, the below three photos are from HK01's report on the exhibition.

Left: The Flame Transmutation Set is fish cake + yakitori, and when you order it you'll get the food in a small black box, then the staff will help you light it up when you snap at it; basically you can pretend to be Mustang and "cook" the yakitori yourself xD

Right: The (Full)metal Transmutation Drink is peach soda, but it comes unmixed; you can put it on a special table with a transmutation circle drawn on it, and the table will shake and mix the drink for you. The idea is you can make your own liquid philosopher's stone and drink it lol

I think they're both really stupid but in an endearing way I guess lmao

Square Enix has announced their participation in the upcoming AnimeJapan 2024 convention on 23-24th March, as well as new merchandise for Black Butler and Fullmetal Alchemist.

[FMA Mobile Original Story: The Silver Battle Cry] (temporary title)

Chapter 1 of the FMA mobile original story, featuring two new characters designed by Arakawa, is now available on the Square Enix YouTube channel! It's a fully voiced event as well 🙌🏻

Introduction of the two new original characters:

The Faithful Commander: Franca Grandy

(Voice Actor: Kito Akari, known for voicing Netsuko in KNY)

"It seems like we're going to spend quite some time together, Edward and Alphonse."

The Blade that Protects his Sister: Ewynn Grandy

(Voice Actor: Kobayashi Chiaki, known for voicing Stark from Frieren)

"Understood! I will protect my sister, even at the expense of others!"

The story will continue to update on the Squares Enix YouTube channel every Friday, and there will be 12 episodes in total.

Although it's heartbreaking to learn that the FMA mobile game is ending, I'm still very thankful and happy that they're releasing the full event on YouTube.

I will work on the translation of the whole event, but it will take time since I've been super busy at work lately. Don't worry though, cause I'm committed to work on it and it's definitely coming!

Also I dread the work of video editing to put on subtitles 😩 so if anyone's interested in helping me out on that id be incredibly thankful 🙏🏻

Miyazaki's Retirement Declarations (chronologically)

Translated from last week's NHK documentary on the production of The Boy and The Heron (more under cut). I saw people posting a screencap of this and I just couldn't contain myself. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON WAY LONGER THAN I IMAGINED LMFAO

This is from the NHK programme "Professional - Their Working Philosophy" (プロフェッショナル 仕事の流儀) a few days ago (16/12/2023). The episode investigates the production process of The Boy and the Huron, and how the late Takahata Isao influenced the movie.

(It was confirmed within the documentary that Mahito = Miyazaki, Great Uncle = Takahata Isao, The Heron = Suzuki Toshio, Kiriko = Yasuda Michiyo)

The documentary is currently available on the NHK Streaming Service (Location Limited). If you have your own ways of watching and you know Japanese, I would definitely recommend the episode as it gives a lot of much-needed context to The Boy and The Heron. Personally, I haven't found a way to watch it yet, so all I know about the documentary are hearsay I saw on Japanese twitter.

Also, at the very end of the episode, Miyazaki was shown working on a Naucicaa piece without any explanation, which led to many people speculating whether he could be working on a sequel for Naucicaa of the Valley of the Wind.

What do yall think? Do you think he's going to finally retire or release yet another animated film in a few years? I would love to see Naucicaa 2 but I also feel like he really needs to... yknow, chillax a bit and stuff. He deserves a long ass vacation.

Translation: Bonus comic strip from Yomi no Tsugai vol. 5

The volume five paperback for Yomi no Tsugai is FINALLY out in Hong Kong, so I went to buy it after work immediately today lol. I think people who have been keeping up with the magazine updates probably haven’t read this bonus comic, so I scanned it and translated it for everyone. (I don’t own a scanner though, so I took a photo and edited it on my iPad lol please don’t flame)

It is really funny to know how it wasn’t Arakawa who had decided to make an Edward Elric doppelgänger in her new comic, but everyone around her actually (who are evidently unable to get over Edward) 😂 Gabby is my new little baby tho (whom I picked up from the trash) so I’m NOT complaining. At all 😂😂😂😂

2. Pop-up Store @ Princess Cafe (Announced on 1 Dec)

Brand-new illustrations of the characters in formal attires. People went insane over Riza wearing suits + top hat as well as Envy wearing garter belts.

The pop-up store will commence in Tokyo from 15 Dec 2023 to 29 Dec 2023, as well as Osaka from 15 Dec 2023 to 30 Dec 2023.

Doesn't have any information regarding the exact products yet, but you can seek updates on the princess cafe twitter or website. Their past products were usually available online, so I expect this time should be the same as well, and international shipping is supported through an official third-party company WorldShopping Global (have not used it, cannot comment on reliability).

Good Smile Company announced that they will make a new Edward Nendoroid Doll, no preview or information is available yet, but we can look forward to it! (Might be my first Nendoroid :3c)

Please be reminded that the Nendoroid Doll is the newer "premium" line of Nendoroid, the ones that are a bit taller, with better mobility and the clothes are in fabric so you can change their clothes. So this one will be quite different from the previous Nendoroids!

Summary:

There was a rhythmic delay when Mustang came into contact with the armour’s arm, and a dull sound was created solely for Al’s notice. It was cloth on metal, sending subtle vibrations across the emptiness of his armour.

This was a noise that only his elder brother, Winry, and Granny Pinako had triggered in him before. Alphonse realized that he had to add Lieutenant Colonel Mustang to the list now, which was more than a little surprising.

Look at what I did! A new piece of translation!!

This is a familial/platonic FMA fic that I really really really love, featuring a touch starved Al, a fiercely protective Roy, and a tiny pouty Ed. It’s got a lot of introspection from Al’s point of view, which I thought was rather rare, and everything about this fic was just *chefs kiss* pure perfection.

I’m not going to spoil much, you’ll just have to trust me on this one 🥺 it’s funny, candid, heartwarming, and all in all incredibly wholesome.

It’s a very challenging project for me, aside from the fact that I did it during the busiest season at work with no sleep, mostly because the original had a great stream of consciousness style, which I struggled a lot to stay faithful to while trying not to compromise the readability. I couldn’t believe that the fic ended up to be only 4k words……. Because it surely felt much longer as I revised and revised the syntax and diction.

Anyways, please please please read it if you have the time! You definitely won’t regret it!

For the past week, Iwamoto-san has been posting sketches of FMA characters on his twitter as a part of his daily sketching challenge and they are absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

I really want to share his art over here and also translate his posts for you all because I think his commentaries are quite insightful for people who are interested in character design!

If you draw your favourite things out you will know them better! So, this is Edward Elric from #FullmetalAlchemist.

Even if you have decided on the pose you want to draw, it is better to sketch out these three first:

the moment before the pose is struck

the pose itself

the moment after the pose is struck

then decide which image works better for your art. I learned this from a really great senior of mine, and it is very solid advice.
