It really demonstrates how disconnected certain self identified "leftists" or even "socialists" are when they describe calls to read theory as "elitist" or "classist". Like if the people who'd spent their entire lives in the desperate poverty of Russian estates, Cuban plantations and South African townships could learn to understand this shit then your "underfunded school system" or whatever is not an excuse.

Because this sort of thing is vitally important to know; to enact political change you need more than just pure will and spontaneous consciousness. It's not enough to know that things are bad and want to change them; you need to understand why things are bad and how to change them. And you're only gonna do that by learning theory. Dreams can only get you so far; to accomplish anything you need the science as well

first hand, rusty canonically tells hank hows he was sexually humiliated at his sweet 16 which could means god knows was going on behind closed doors, on the second hand, being pantsed is a fairly typical juvenile prank that was perfectly in mode at the time, and with the shows sci-fi element and established shrink ray gun the joke practically writes itself, but on the last hand, that indicates something about how pervasively society condones vs prohibits the humiliation of children whether done by peers or older relatives/family, and whether that humiliation is sexual physical mental or emotional truly doesnt matter because children are property, and whether damaged by peers or adults, it all is swept under the rug called "a rough childhood"
