     despite her persistence in caging the troubles of her youth,  it has always found itself way back into her thoughts without too much effort. while his presence provided relief and safety, it was difficult ignoring the misery in their lives. voice soft as a feather, brows slightly furrowing,  ❛   i’m just saying.. i mean, if you want, just like old times —– unless there’s someone else & i know it’s been years.   ❜

        at the mention of  someone else,  his eyebrows furrowed. it wasn’t as if he hadn’t been with anyone throughout the decade, yet nothing had been serious.  ❝            have YOU found someone else ? ❞  it wasn’t that he meant to avoid the question she had made, because that wasn’t the case. he simply chose to let curiosity take the best of him, even if her answer didn’t please him in the end.

         ❛   here i thought, he was a ROCK.   ❜  then there was the playful exchange of words,  never ceasing to come out of her mouth.   ❛   yes,  HE DID  !  while i live for COMPETITION, it’s the truth and you know it.   ❜  a part of her wondered, whether one of them will back down in their game anytime soon  —–  it surely wasn’t her.   ❛   don’t forget the insufferable charm, he’s MANY things.  ❜  though a hint of red managed to crept up on her cheeks, she scoffed,   ❛   you know what, i change my mind, he is ANNOYING.  i’m pretty sure he said EVERYTHING.  ❜

        ❝ a rock ? weren’t you the one who always called him a tree ? ❞  he questioned with slightly furrowed eyebrows. his amusement was confirmed by the small laugh that left his lips after hearing her words.  ❝ honestly ? i have my DOUBTS.          though if you insist on an answer, i’d say he didn’t cross it first. ❞  he shrugged, his features displaying his confidence just as much as his tone did. his smile grew after realising what she was trying to do.  ❝        oh, is that so ? ❞  his head tilted.  ❝ just admit that you’ve always had a MASSIVE crush on that annoying guy. i won’t tell anyone. ❞

  — ALMA.

        she paused, looking at the male across from her with narrowed eyes and flared nostrils. ‘ well i’m damn far from the damsel in distress, ’ she muttered with such anger behind her voice that the narrowed eyes didn’t do her anger justice.

        his eyebrows rose after noticing the anger that she was likely feeling. it confused him, to say the least.  ❝ and i’m closer to being the damsel in distress ? ❞  the question left his lips as he crossed his arms over his chest.  ❝ NEITHER of us are knights nor are we damsels. how about that ? ❞

        he gave her a small nod ; being aware of how  r i g h t  she was. people need people. kaleb had always dealt with his issues by himself, and it wasn’t as easy as it could seem.  ❝         are you implying that someone is you ? ❞  he questioned with a tilted head, even though he had never doubted that the person who helped him the most was her.

        ❛   you two must be good friends if you know that much. last i checked, he wasn’t much of a TALKER.   ❜  a laugh of disbelief was released, still, the grin didn’t fade from her lips, as her hand collided playfully with his arm.  ❛  ——– i’m sure, but would you tell him that it takes TWO to tango  ?  he crossed it first. besides, we were teenagers.   ❜  crossing her arms again, she tore her eyes away and beheld their surroundings. perhaps, her posture might have resembled that of a child. ❛   it’s probably the EYES. since you two seem to talk about how amazing i am, what else did he say, huh  ?   ❜

        ❝ he can be a TALKER, when with the right person. ❞  another shrug of shoulders, eyes focusing on hers. a laugh escaped his lips after hearing her comment ; head shaking slightly.  ❝ he crossed it first ? do you have to turn everything to a COMPETITION ? ❞  the male’s eyebrows furrowed, though the smile on his lips didn’t fade.  ❝ yeah, the EYES are what will get him  f a r  in life. ❞  the words left his lips, hands finding comfort inside of his pockets.  ❝ how amazing you are ? it’s more like the opposite. though he does complain, there must be something about you that allures him.  ❞

        there were only a number of people that could plaster an actual smile on her lips   ;   one with nothing holding her back, all the weight of the world washed away for a moment or two. one of the many things helped her FIGHT the darkest of her days, all thanks to the male. ❛   better not to PISS ME OFF, then.   ❜  momentarily, she feigned INNOCENCE, features painting wide-eyed introspection. ❛  oh, I DO, actually —— i was just making sure. met him when i was ten, i think  ?  he was an ASS for a ten-year-old and we HATED each other.  ❜  the words came out STEADY, it had been years since she verbally acknowledged her unbecoming. ❛   he CHANGED, thankfully.   ❜

        that moment managed to take him back to a decade ago. for once it was all CALM. which was quite surprising, considering the psychopath after everyone in that town. his head tilted slightly and he gave her a small nod. her comment would’ve made him release some sort of gasp to show his shock, yet she was right; so why fake surprise ?  ❝ he told me you could be unbearable sometimes. ❞  the smirk on his lips wasn’t leaving any time soon.  ❝ y’know, there’s a fine line between HATE & LOVE. so i’d say he stayed the same but you crossed the line. ❞

      amusement shimmered in her eyes, her youth finally shining through the immense darkness. it shouldn’t have SURPRISED HER, the smooth back and forth banter fitting like two puzzle pieces, despite the years of distance. with a brow raised in question, ❛   you do now, huh  ? i didn’t peg you for a matchmaker ——— oh, tall guy with PRETTY EYES, then  ?  y’think he can handle my temper, though  ?    ❜  a quiet laugh escaped her, as she shook her head at the male and his antics. perhaps, if one would look closely, her face was flushed with color.  ❛   do you know where i can find him  ?     ❜

        to say he had missed the playful banter would be the least; yet the fact that he had missed the female was something rather obvious, despite his possible denials.  ❝ i can be MANY things. ❞  he began, with a small shrug of shoulders.  ❝ i’m aware of just how difficult you can get, but i’d say he can handle it. ❞  his tone didn’t lack confidence. in fact, it probably had a bit too much of that.  ❝ well, i think you’ve encountered him a couple of times.             you sure you don’t have an idea as to who he might be ? ❞  his eyebrows furrowed slightly.  ❝ i wouldn’t mind introducing you both if i’m wrong, though. ❞
