this is based off of my rapidly expanding au where percival (one of the little guys) begins to realize the stuff he experienced on the island as he gets older, only made worse by having jack attend his university and bring up terrifying images of a pig heading monster and dead boys

Noooo bc Jason Grace is so hated but he's literally one of the characters EVER in my heart. He can't even fully remember how much he worked for everything he used to have and then here comes Percy, who, as far as Jason can tell, gets everything effortlessly. Who - above all his power and experience and connections - is likeable in a way Jason can't manage. And up until this point he could rely on his knowledge and experience, but now he just feels the urge to lead and has nothing to back it up with. So Percy will take the lead and it'll grate on Jason, but what position is he in to argue? And after the war is over and everyone goes home and back to their lives he still can't remember his because nothing comes easy, he's not someone who gets things. He's just some kid with a boring demeanor, a nasty temper, a pretty face, and an aching nothing where Jason used to be. And he just fucking goes on! And he never ever gets it all back!

Jason is so happy on the Argo 2 and so happy to be on this dangerous death murder mission because all of his previous quests have been full of older kids who hated him or alone or with people who still didn't quite trust him after years of service. Where's that tumblr quote?
That's him

No thoughts just a headcanon that Jason Grace would go cuddle and hug his friends and be extra clingy, and even random young campers he barely knows because he knows he has only a few months to live, and before he gets killed by Caligula, he wants the be everyone's golden retriever for one last time. And everyone whom he's hugged comes to this realization after his death.

I think the reason Rick fumbled with writing Jason's abilities/personality is because he was too focused on Jason existing as Percy's rival to focus on Jason as an individual character. And the funniest thing is, in the end, Jason was not considered satisfactory rival to Percy by the fandom either, which is ironic since that was the whole point of his character.
Rick seemingly screwed up the whole rivalry thing because, though he wanted someone to challenge Percy's power, he didn't want that person (Jason) to be more powerful than Percy or more enjoyable than Percy either, in the fear that the audience might start enjoying Jason more.
When you write a rival, you have to make sure that the rival character has equally powerful personality and strength/abilities compared to the person that they're rivalled with.
But Rick? The way he wrote Jason was like a half done updo. He dumped all the cool power on Percy (like potentially implying that Percy has bloodbending, can control water inside of someone, making sure Percy wins ALMOST every fight (and i mean, almost, there is a very rare time Percy ever loses) while limiting his power with Jason in every way possible, making the stupid brick jokes to make sure Jason always passes out in a fight, the whole "I only get one lighting bolt a day from my father" (it's a dumbass logic too, Jason should've been able to summon that much power of lighting on his own, he does NOT need his dad for that shit c'mon now) like it's an obvious effort to make jason appear weaker. Rick did all of this while lazily trying to shoehorn Jason's achievements in the plot by implying it but not actually showing it, like a "yeah he did this cool shit once ig" which makes it less impressive compared to Percy's achievements, which is something we've actually witnessed firsthand. Rick intentionally never brought up or expanded upon Jason's achievements much. He only emphasized everyone's awe of him being the son of Jupiter, which made it seem like Jason had the 'big three child privilege' where people didn't give a fuck about his efforts but instead his position.
Alright Rick, don't give him power, but atleast give him a personality? Nope he isn't getting that either. Jason had the potential to make DARK jokes about his controlled millitary life in Rome, and explore his past. Like I badly wanted a passage of Jason getting his memories back in fragments, Rick could've added flashbacks of Jason's past in his pov in a way that he gets his memories back. Instead he went "yeah yeah jason got all his memories back, it's all good" like SHOW us that wtf?? sure let's make sure he's as stale as possible to the audience, we can't have anyone liking the underdog over Percy Jackson!
He also made sure that Jason had it super hard in life aswell but never emphasized it or gave him anything good compared to Percy.
Don't get me wrong, percy definitely had it rlly hard, but Atleast Rick made sure Percy had a loving mom and a stepdad, a loving girlfriend and a cute adorable sister that he could play and spend time with, he got to celebrate birthdays with Sally, he got to eat her tasty blue food, and he actually had an ambrosia taste. You mean to tell me that Jason's sister barely had time for him, that he hasn't had a single birthday and that ambrosia tastes like sawdust for him while you give the other members of the seven, delicious ambrosia taste? 😤
Jason Grace has gotten the worst life in his own story, he wasn't "powerful" enough for a child of Zeus, he was "boring" , nobody properly trusted him, he died painfully, he didn't have parents, he barely talked to his sister, he didn't have a childhood, he was abandoned to blood thirsty animals when he was TWO, he didn't have a birthday, he didn't have an ambrosia taste, his girlfriend dumped him, he never got to see his best friend before he died, and he is terribly hated by the fandom who are simply turning a blind eye to his struggles because "no Percy will always be better in every way" yeah. I could go on and on.

transfem Jason please
There are only five of them and they are completely chaotic.
She realizes quite early, it is impossible to say for sure on her own or with the help of the Transgender daughter of Bacchus who was looking after her at that time. She was 8-10 years old, she looked in the mirror and realized that she looked like a boy. She didn't like it and it was wrong. She doesn't like her name, she likes to be called Grace because it sounds feminine. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. The same evening it was announced that there is no son of Jupiter, there is only a daughter. The Romans are at least allies.
There was a bit of a dilemma with her name because everyone insisted that she be named after some great and powerful Roman woman or one of her sisters. She liked being just Grace, but she couldn't use her last name as a first name. And she couldn't find Anything to like herself. As a result, she went to Lupe, the wolf without thinking for a second gave her the name Delilah. Delly. Delilah Cora Grace. She immediately fell in love with her name.
With the outward resemblance of her mortal mother, Delly has always looked pretty girlish, but with the help of certain tricks of the Bacchus children, she looks very feminine - tall and slender with long blond hair and an absolutely cute face. And she grew up and became a real beauty. At their reunion, Thalia said that she looked very much like their mother, just as beautiful.
Reyna helped her become even more feminine by superbly teaching her cosmetics and the treatment of her hair.
She was buried on the territory of the temple of Diana, as the "star maiden".

Okay, but... Consider...
Transfemme Jason Grace
Think about it: he was raised to be a perfect soldier, some kind of golden boy son of Jupiter. He wouldn't've had the chance to explore himself. It was just expected of him that he was a stereotypical cishet white man. That's why he was in an obviously comphet relationship with Piper: he thought that's what he was supposed to do.
So what if the same thing went for "his" gender? What if he was transfemme?
I just think it's a cool idea.
#i agreee i agree i agree#if it’s not clear from my previous posts😭#i agree#i came up with a whole plot#for a fanfic about this#but i can’t write so it doesn’t exist

If I'm being honest I think Maddie's and Raven's friendship in ever after high is underrated in the series, books and even within the fandom itself. Like Maddie is Raven's best friend and the first person to not have judged her for who she's daughter off, despite Maddie having had every right to be weary of her due to what Raven's mom did to her home of origin; wonderland.
Like the evil queen invaded her home and made it hard to even go back to wonderland or even be able to cross back and forth from ever after and wonderland, by making a magical border that poisoned her home and made it difficult to even be able to live in it, and yeah, she's lucky that she was one of the few people who got evacuated from wonderland, but she misses her home.
And yet the first time she met Raven, despite having all the right to despise her for what her mom did to her and other people, and be weary of her, she instead doesn't judge her for that and chooses her as her best friend, and realizes that Raven is nothing like her mom and just accepts her best friend as who she is, and even cheers her up when she's down due to everyone else judging her, for who's she's the daughter of...
Yet that kinda gets forgotten by almost everyone, which is kinda really sad because in one of the books ; A wonderlandiful world ; Maddie, talks to the narrators ; who narrate what happens in her world to keep her and other fairytale stories alive, while not controlling their free will ; how she's aware she's just supposed to be a comedy relief side character that can't be anything but funny and how she's supposed to be brushed over in the narrative for the sake of other characters. And that literally does happen in the series, in the fandom, and later on in the books as she's sort of just written or seen there without being given proper character development or attention at all, that's not off character completely for comedy relief for other characters to exist but, not her.
And that's tragic. We don't talk about Maddie enough nor about the characters friendships with each other enough, at all.
