like always im thinking about an au where will from ealdor lives and eventually makes his way to camelot. im trying to think what would be the funniest profession he could take up. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Merlin’s love for and devotion to Arthur trumps almost everything else about him. Including his murderous tendencies.

He would cross every line for Arthur. He literally abandons all of his beliefs for Arthur, not because of destiny, but because he loves him.

Like his destiny was to bring magic back to Camelot, and he gives up multiple opportunities to do so, to try protect Arthur.

Should Merlin have killed uther? Or at least let him die one of the many times he almost did? yeah probably. But he’ll always choose Arthur over what he really wants.

It’s kinda hilarious to me how down with murder Merlin is. Like I feel like most shows, especially family shows, have the character at least be morally conflicted about killing. If not out right refusing to kill.

Merlin does not give two shits. He murks someone in the first episode, zero conflict. His body count must be at least in the thousands by the end of the show (considering he took out a whole army). But let’s not forget all the up close and personal murders he commits.

I recently rewatched the changeling, and in that episode in quick succession he kills Grunhilda, the Sidhe and then gives Gaius a look like “do I need to do everything myself?” And gives Elena the potion. ZERO fucks given, he is so unfazed. Merlin is always down for murder. It’s so funny.

And I support him lol.

Here's a quick au idea that just came to me today:

In a modern au where Merlin is still waiting on Arthur, historians recently discovered a whole batch of legal documents from Arthur's reign. These documents detail many changes he made to the laws of Camelot, including the repeal of the magic ban (which the historians assumed was just a halt on witch hunts).

However, one thing that the historians note as strange were the large number of laws that only applied to the king's personal manservant, who was never mentioned by name in the documents. These laws range from oddly specific, such as 'the king's manservant shall not accompany knights to the tavern', to downright bizarre decrees that make no sense, like 'the king's manservant is hereby forbidden from pointing out stew in the king's hair.'

The historians' first guess was that perhaps King Arthur was going a bit mad in his later years, but they didn't find any other ludicrous laws besides the ones pertaining to his manservant, which then led the historians to question the identity of this manservant and his relationship to the king.

All of this culminates in a historical exhibit showcasing the documents and postulating on this mysterious manservant of king Arthur. Many scholars flock to the exhibit, eager to examine the documents and debate their meaning and impact within a historical context.

Which then leads to a very tired Dr. Merlin Emrys, a medieval history professor, being dragged by his colleagues to see the exhibit and having to stifle is laughter as these world-renowned scholars tear their hair out trying to understand what was essentially a prank war between him and Arthur.

Yall ever notice that Americans always say “we need to talk about what is happening in this country” or just refer to America as “this country”, “our country” or just “the country”?

I feel like no one else does that. Like there’s just this assumption that the people watching the videos they post on the internet are also American or know exactly what country and issue they’re talking about.

Like I get it, you guys have a lot going on right now. But it just feeds into the American centric mentality that I see online a lot, and just from Americans in general. Like that post that talks about Americans naming their state when people from other countries ask where they’re from. Or they only put their state abbreviations on their mail, and not their country.

No hate to you guys, truly. It’s just kinda weird lol. People from other countries shouldn’t be assumed to know everything about the states.

Also, so tired of seeing atyd massively misinterpreted. If it’s not ur taste, fine, but don’t say it’s bad bc you didn’t understand it.

key things to remember about atyd is remus was Not cool. he quietly sobbed in his bed bc sirius and james were having nighttime conversations without him and he felt left out. he was also not a casanova, that was an offhand joke made exactly once, he was only ever with 4 ppl and 2 of them was cause he was sad about sirius. he’s also an unreliable narrator who fucking hates himself and it is prefaced and tagged that this version of remus is not canon compliant. sirius was also not stupid, he literally single handedly invented a revolutionary spell that allowed a dyslexic remus to read, as well as a lot of other brilliant stuff. i don’t know where people got the idea of cool, hot, mean-to-sirius remus lupin, and stupid, vain, hysterical sirius black, probably from their own poor reading comprehension and tiktok povs, but i’m tired of people taking all their frustration with fanon out on this one fic like that isn’t a really mean thing to do.
