i feel like crying every time i think about jean telling jeremy that "kevin earned the right to be arrogant" like... oh. finally someone that acknowledges (somehow) kevin's past and feelings. and it being the person that kevin hurt the most is so important to me

Kevin is the epitome of do it scared.

He escapes the nest. He slides into an assistant coach role. He steps back onto an exy court with his nondominant hand. He grabs Riko’s arm when he goes after Neil at Kathy’s show. He keeps choosing the Foxes over Riko and the Ravens — publicly and privately. He covers his tattoo. He finds a new home for Jean. He topples the king in his own castle using the hand Riko broke.

He does it all. Drunk off his ass most of the time and terrified all of it, but he does it. And that fear is called cowardice because he buckles under the weight of it. But Kevin Day does it.

I absolutely agree with you, but keep in mind that I never said that he suffered the same abuse as Jean. It is canon that he was physically, psychologically and mentally abused.

I only indicated that he did not have an easy life as many people think. By that "too" I did not intend to imply that he went through the exact same things as Jean obv.

So as I repeat I totally agree with you, but I never directly compared the two traumas or said that Kevin suffered the same treatment as Jean.

I'm sorry if I didn't explain myself well.

The irritation I feel every single time I see someone, or in our world or in theirs, minimize and ignore the huge amount of trauma Kevin Day went through is all time consuming.

Like how can you baby the other characters and fight for their happiness and then metaphorically spit in his face. As if he went through nothing. As if he wasn't in the same place Jean was for even more time.

Like what do you think he did? Played monopoly while getting a wonderful tan? He was abused, humiliated and manipulated too. Canonically, he went through a huge amount of direct psychological and emotional abuse. Canonically, he was beaten and went through physical abuse too. And, seeing as we don't have anything in his pov, we will never truly know what that place did or did not do to him.

You can't acknowledge only the pain of the ones you hold dear (in the real or fictional world btw).

Yes.

Personally, I would love to imagine a Sun on his heart or on his arm/near his shoulder, but I can also see him with like a tramp stamp (lower back or lower front) and other random tattoos on his ankle and between his fingers. Some of them even done drunk or himself.

In general, I don't imagine him living his life without even a small tattoo (or possibly even a piercing).

truly some people have no genre savviness whatsoever. A girl came back from the dead the other day and fresh out of the grave she laughed and laughed and lay down on the grass nearby to watch the sky, dirt still under her nails. I said “isn’t it terribly lonely how in your triumph over death nobody was here to greet you?” and she just looked at me funny and said “what do you mean? The whole world was here, waiting”.
