im writing a story where there are different races (like humans and elves and stuff) and i was wondering if you had any resources on any obscure or odd or plain underused creatures that i could use?
I Googled ‘underused mythological creatures’ and here is everything that came up:
Goodreads: Under-written/Underused ‘creatures’ in the [Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy] Genre?
TVTropes: Underused Supernatural Creatures
Writing Forums: Underused Mythical Creatures
and here is everything that came up with the addition of ‘tumblr’ in the search bar:
General Creatures Reference
Creatures & More
Myths, Creatures & Folklore
Creepy Irish Creatures (tw: this blog has a lot of horror content)
X Marks the Spot: Rare Mythological Creatures
Books
List of Paranormal YA Books that Include Underrated, Underused Mythological Creatures
Lists
Underrated Mythological Creatures in YA Books
Overlooked Creatures from European Mythology
5 Underused Mythological Creatures
I hope these help…!

Friendly reminder that if you can't physically handle speaking to a person, you don't need to sit there and take the abuse. Remove yourself from the situation.

I'm deciding to write about a young woman who has been in a comma since a young age. When she was five or sixish, her sister shoved her down the stairs, and. Bam, she wakes up at the ripe old age of fourteen (maybe fifteen). What effects do you think this will have on her?
Muscle atrophy. She hasn’t used them in years and will probably need physical therapy to walk again.
Disorientation. She just woke up ten years later. She might not know she was out for so long. Many coma patients are agitated and confused. They require immediate sedation for their own safety. Some patients develop dysarthria, or the inability to articulate any speech.
Mental immaturity. Her mind hasn’t been interacting with anything except itself since it was five. She will probably need a psychotherapist.
Waking up. Waking up from a coma isn’t like waking up from sleep. It usually takes a week or more. First, the patient will open their eyes and appear “awake” for a few minutes. Time spent awake will increase as they move towards recovery. Then they will gradually recover motor control (flailing arms, moving legs, etc) but fine motor control (grasping, pulling) takes much more time. The patient’s response to commands will also improve over time, as will their auditory and visual tracking.
Solid Food. She’s been hooked up to an IV drip for years. Her body isn’t used to processing solid foods like bread, fruit, or hamburgers. She’ll need to eat purees for awhile until her digestive system begins working again.

So sometimes Microsoft Word is all you need to write but my thoughts tend to be a rambling mess so I need a piece of software which helps me organize my thoughts and writing. These are a few I’ve tried and tested and work well for me.

Hey, guys! So, we’re all familiar with Cyberpunk and Steampunk, but there are so many more alternate histories/speculative science fiction genres out there! I came across this handy-dandy infographic and figured I could share a bit of these punk genres for anyone interested.
Steampunk Roughly covers the Western world during the mid- to late-19th century (ie: Victorian era, US wild west, etc.), and sometimes up to the Edwardian era.
Dieselpunk 1920s up through WWII, ending at just about the Cold War.
Decopunk A cleaner, artistic, more “optimistic” version of Dieselpunk (same time period)
Clockpunk Covers the time of the Renaissance (think da Vinci)
Atompunk Cold War era, ie: the Space Race
Teslapunk Derivative of Steampunk, but focuses on electricity rather than steam.
Splatterpunk Explicit horror and gore
Biopunk Biotechnology, genetics (part science fiction, part real life)
Nanopunk Nanotechnology, sometimes overlaps with Biopunk
Cyberpunk The granddaddy of them all: computer technology, the internet, hackers, etc.
Others not included in the infographic
Elfpunk Fantasy-based, features creatures like elves and fairies.
Mythpunk Mythology and folklore, includes urban fantasy.
Seapunk?
Stonepunk, Bronzepunk, Plaguepunk
