K I gotta get something off my chest.

I love Erend. I think he’s an amazing character. He is my FAVORITE NPC of both games. I will read every piece of fanfic with him in it, I want to put him in my pocket and keep him forever.

I do not think he is right for Aloy.

Why? Because he needs. He’s not needy, per say. But he needs presence, somebody who can stay. I think because of Ersa, who was a solid presence for him and the most important relationship he’s had all his life, he would feel most fulfilled by somebody who he could rely on and who would rely on him in return. I don’t think he’d want to be like, attached at the hip, but definitely somebody who can give slightly more than Aloy. Case in point: her leaving after the events of Zero Dawn. He just wanted a damn goodbye! And she didn’t have it in her to give that. (This isn’t a judgement on Aloy, mind, I get it, I get why she’s Like That (thanks Nora 😒). )But Erend wants more.

Also Aloy? Not… super nice to Erend. She spends a lot of HFW mocking him (see: “if Erend can avoid blowing himself up” before Gemini and other comments). She loves him, sure, he’s her friend. But I also feel like she respects him a little less than the rest of the GAIA gang. Not a good start if we’re trying to go down a relationship road. I dunno this part reeeeally bothered me. Erend is shown to be pretty capable if a little headstrong and I just don’t get why everybody treats him like he’s dumb. Especially Aloy! Who’s been on missions with him! Who has seen what he’s capable of! And still! Makes fun of him!? Why?!

So yeah. Not my favorite pairing. Maybe someday after they both grow up a bit? Maybe?

You know who I do think would work for Aloy as she is right now?

Nil.

He respects her boundaries, he’s never pushed her even when he’s absolutely wanted something, and he’s always been cool to let her go and have her breeze back into his life. As much as I love Erend, I don’t think he’d be cool with Aloy’s tendency to come and go. I think he’d have a mentality that he could “fix” the part of her that’s always leaving, and I think that’s would justifiably piss her right off. She doesn’t need fixing for being a free spirit any more than he needs fixing for wanting a tangible presence!

Nil on the other hand is all “ok babe, have fun, I packed you lunch, kiss the murder children goodbye before you go!” At least as Aloy starts to learn how to relationship, Nil would be more understanding of her chafing against being(figuratively) tied down. He gets being weird. He knows he’s a lil fucked up and he knows she is too and that’s what drew him to her initially. I think the potential for that to evolve is stronger between the two of them. Their “brokenness” is more similar than Aloy’s and Erend’s. Erend, god bless him, was infatuated with her from the start and it just hasn’t gotten better or refined at all.

So, those are my thoughts! And before anybody says anything: Kotallo is a DAMN strong contender, and I am happy to entertain any and all arguments in his favor.

Drakka, however, is a Fuckboi Extraordinaire and though I love him to pieces he will not be considered at the time.

Also still not a fan of avad tbh, like don’t get me wrong. He’s hot. And I definitely like some fanfics and art w him and Aloy, but damn dude you’re supposed to be like... in your like early 30s ? I believe? (I may be pulling that fact from annold af Reddit post I’m remembering but it seemed like a solid answer to his age given the lore timeline etc) and you meet a 19/20yo right after the bitch you were in love w and fuckin was captured, thought to be dead, then found and actually died. And your priority is trying to start pumping out the ‘respectfully tap that?’ Vibes??? SIR!!!!!! Go mourn!!!! Jerk off!! Poor coping skills Avad, try therapy.

I’m so glad we got a chance to be mean to him and shoot him down again in fw I want another chance to do it again next game and really drive home the pain of rejection lol

Don’t get me wrong I am extremely sympathetic and feel for him on the whole thing, but like damn bro that ain’t the way!! And you should’ve dropped it and moved on enough to not bring it up again since the last time you saw her PLS take the L bro

Listen I don’t know what it is but something bout Nil makes me wanna go kill some men 😂😭 god damnit I wish we had been able to have more of him in FW, glad we got what we did tho I guess 😩

I really am behind the Aloy/erend ship but ... exceptions can be made for good decisions 😂😂
