Note
for the record while it's very much okay to have criticisms of things maggie has done, i do want to note just for clarity that that 'your fave is problematic' post leaves out that the reason she took issue with people headcanoning ronan as black was that she wanted people to think about why they were only headcanoning the violent heavily drinking criminal character as black. she explicitly said just to consider what might be playing into that and to headcanon other characters as black too.
my post is not a “your fave is problematic” post lol i feel like it was a cry for help because it was my fave. and thank you for bringing that up, one of the people who rb my post explained that headcannoning ronan as black and why maggie does not like it was because of what you just mentioned. and i agree! idrk why our fandom hc ronan as black in the first place, i just thought that the fan cast of the two models (i think the more popular ones were reece king and dudley o’shaughnessy, i could be wrong) were pretty and the fandom just liked their looks for ronan, but now i know that casting ronan as black would be a problem considering his behavior.

everyone please if you’ve seen my post i’m not trying to spread anti maggie hate. i was criticizing her work because it was pointed out to me about what she did, especially how she writes henry. i’m not going to take back what i said about her writing henry’s character, but people have said that she’s actually done research for writing his character? if so, i would like to see where she talks about her research for writing about henry’s character and about the sensitivity readers she’s had go through her books. i’ve seen more posts about if an author shies away from diversity- then we probably wouldn’t have gotten henry as a character to begin with. i’ve only seen the criticizing side of this so i wanted more information not hate, so please be nice cuz i had no idea. thank you to those who did it explain it to me, i’ll take whatever information or explanations i can get.

recently i found out that maggie stiefvater is racist and not even subtly so. i love the raven cycle and this book series was what got me through my middle school and early high school years. i could say i’m a huge fan but i can’t believe that some of the comments in the books were racist and i didn’t notice. the moments are when ronan mocks henry’s way of speaking and adam laughs along. another time is when ronan and adam make fun of henry for being half chinese . they make comments like “he’s half chinese” “which half?” both times blue and gansey call them out on it but just telling the boys to stop and not address the fact that they were being racist either in that moment or any point later on in the books is not good enough. maggie could have intended those scenes as a way to show adam and ronan’s distrust and jealousy towards henry because he’s new to their group but there could have been better ways to go about showing that, and that is maggie’s fault. the way henry’s whole character is written is also extremely problematic for the fact that a white woman wrote it. she does not know the first person experience of being asian. i’m asian and i thought henry’s character was accurate, in the way that he is overly aware he is asian and even makes self-deprecating comments about his race. i thought this was, stupidly enough, an accurate and real representation of asian teens in our day in age because i related and i realize that’s is extremely wrong. it would have been ok if an asian author had wrote this, but maggie, a white woman wrote it, who would have had no idea what that feeling of self hatred because of your race feels like, if she had researched, that would have been one thing but as far as i know she didn’t. and the fact that she made the only two queer characters say it is extremely upsetting. because of this, she not only othered henry, the only poc character (while blue is hc to be a woc, maggie has said she is “racially ambiguous”. that’s such a jkr move for trying to get diversity points after publication) she demonized the only other diversity she has, her two queer characters. i loved and shipped pynch but after reevaluating the series and the characters, it just shows another prevalent issue within the lgbtqia+ community, some white queer people are still racist and white queer people need to realize that in the lens of the world, they will be seen as white first before queer, and therefore are at a greater advantage. ronan and adam are an example of this and i wish that maggie had realized this when she wrote this. this isn’t even a new thing, there were articles written in 2017 (tumblr account explaining what she did) (article) about her being a racist author. knowing that i was reading and supporting these books at that time makes me feel so disappointed and if i had done research, i would have never had finished this series and fallen in love with it. i guess i just want to say i’m so disappointed that maggie is like this and i’m disappointed in myself for being bi and asian and not seeing the problems in the books and foolishly thinking it was a series with great representation because at the time i was reading these books, i was at my lowest mentally and they helped me escape. it’s heartbreaking to let go of this series since it was such a huge part of my formative years. i’m in no way blaming the fandom because as fans, we’re victims of the way the author presents their own preconceptions and ignorance into their writing and we grasp onto whatever we can when it comes to characters with the littlest bit of representation. does anyone in the fandom know this, was anyone aware? idk if i should keep liking these series or just forget about it, but i know that i’ll no longer be supporting maggie stiefvater (which really fucking sucks cuz i was in the middle of the dreamer trilogy and ronan was literally my comfort character but most of the racist comments said in the books were said by ronan). i just hope this starts a discussion in our fandom, i just wanna know i’m not alone.

I think what fucks me up about the ending of xxxHolic (aside from the bullshit ending that Watanuki threw away all his character development/there’s no way Yuuko would have wanted Watanuki to become like her- trapped and lonely, giving up his existence in the people who loved him lives/ CLAMP pulled that ending out of their asses to keep TRC and Holic going because they’re their most popular cross-demographics series after CC- but then put both series into hiatus - fight me)
Is that after EVERYTHING Shizuka did for him, I don’t think Watanuki ever realized that Doumeki was in love with him.
Like the ending of xxxHolic recontextualized Watanuki for me, and now upon rereads I can’t help but see him as a shrill and selfish person. Yes, he does do things for Himawari, Kohane, the spirits, Tsubasa and Co.. I can see *why* people love him and want him to live.
but with Doumeki, no matter how many sacrifices, how many times Shizuka has thrown himself in front of Watanuki to protect him even at the hazard of his own body, sacrificed body, blood, time, other relationships for Watanuki, it’s rare that Wata actually learns his lesson and it sticks.
Yes there are moments in later volumes where we seen them actively hanging out together without Himawari or Yuuko throwing them together- but even then, Doumeki comments that he doubts if Watanuki even sees him as a friend (and this breaks my heart)…and it’s just tragic that Shizuka is willing to protect Watanuki even though he knows that Watanuki may not appreciate him.
I’m not saying that Watanuki should love Doumeki because he owes it to him, but the ending would have hurt a hell of a lot less had there been some sort of “I do, in fact, care for you” moment between them, like we got with Kurogane and Fai post-Ceres or Rikuo and Kazahaya (who are pretty analogous to Dou and Wata in terms of personalities-although Rikuo is more flirty than Shizuka).
It just hurts that Watanuki allowed Doumeki to enter a marriage of convinience for the sole purpose of making companions for him (if he ever objected to it, we never saw it), knowing that Doumeki’s devotion to him most likely stole time away from his marriage and family before his sons could enter the shop.
It forced a burden onto Doumeki’s children- who didn’t ask for this- none of these descendants can ever leave Tokyo, if they also fall in love with Watanuki they can’t have him and be with only him because they have to produce babies somehow/Watanuki won’t act on it nor encourage it, they’re also tied to the shop and the have to accommodate their schedules and time to Watanuki because of Shizuka’s desire to make sure the love of his life is never lonely.
Every time we see Shizuka’s sad and penetrating stare with each visit to the shop after Wata took over, watching Watanuki transform into something that is a cold, distant, other-worldly and far from the lively, spazzy, sharp-tongued, yet selfless to a fault idiot that he fell in love with, had to have hurt Shizuka; knowing that despite all he did and has done for Watanuki, he couldn’t save Watanuki from his own self.
But Shizuka never stopped loving Kimihiro.
And to think that Shizuka’s love was in vain in terms of Watanuki ever acknowledging/realizing Doumeki’s feelings, the motivations for protecting him, and how much Doumeki wanted Watanuki to stay with him and remain as his Watanuki, destroys me every time.

"adam lived in the apartment located above the office of St. Agnes Catholic Church, a fortuitous combination that focused most of the objects of ronan's worship into one downtown block."

Headcanon that Blue and Gansey’s first born child runs around with this little imaginary friend she calls Noah, except it’s actually Noah and she can see him because she’s probably some psychic magical cabeswater baby, and he knows that Blue and the other raven boys won’t ever see him or remember him since he sacrificed their memory of him in order to save Gansey in trk. anyway I’m not crying or anything

10 Reasons Kyoya and Tamaki Make A Good Couple
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION. I’M A MULTI-SHIPPER. I like them each with different people, but they’re my favorite together. Please don’t yell at me for my opinion, and I won’t yell at you for yours.
1.) They understand each other and why they’re the way they are
2.) They’d never try to change the other
3.) They already call each other “Mama” and “Daddy”. I mean, really!
4.) They look out for each other
5.) They will stand up for one another without a second thought
6.) Tamaki is pretty much the only one who has seen every side of Kyoya and has stuck around
7.) Kyoya is pretty much the only one who would go to France and spend his entire vacation looking for Tamaki’s mom to make sure she’s okay, and to see if he can do anything for her. Why’d he do this? He knew it would make Tamaki happy, that’s why.
8.) Kyoya knows about Tamaki’s family troubles (Grandma, Dad, and Mom) and is understanding.
9.) Tamaki knows about Kyoya’s family troubles (Father and all his older brothers) and helps him get in good with his Father. (By making sure Kyoya’s dad knows he’s in league with Tamaki’s family)
10.) They’re just really freaking adorable together, okay?!?!?

Holy fuck
Kyoya’s dad is abusive so he calls Tamaki who is sweet and good “daddy” as a way to say he replaced the negativity in his life
Tamaki hasn’t seen his mother in years and calls Kyoya “mommy” to say that Kyoya has been protective and caring to help Tamaki cope with the loss of his mother
I just realized this what the fickle
