But the excitement/anticipation for Wind and Truth has hit hard these past few days.

I am ridiculously excited

Thinking about magical eugenics with some friends

We buddy read a book where the magic system was hereditary and we had a discussion on how slippery that slope is to eugenics and magical racism

It made me realize that the Cosmere doesn’t have many inherited/bloodline magic systems. We have Scadrial and Taldain as the only two planets that come to mind. Every other form of Investiture requires some type of connection to a Shard or planet, but the ability to connect isn’t related to race or nationality

Powering up in those magic systems also don’t require specific pedigrees to be more powerful

Since Mistborn and White Sand were among Sanderson’s early works, I’m not sure if this was a completely intentional move on his part

look i know the szeth prologue carries a lot of introductory information as to the magic system and how it can be used (and if there is one thing the cosmere in general excels at it is using the rules of a hard magic system in interesting ways for fight scenes) but it is so crazy that his internal monologue is so full of grief for what he is about to do and his first spoken line is "what am i? i'm sorry" and then he starts killing people in such an overcomplicated rube goldbergian way. why'd he lash a guy to the ceiling above an upright spear and just wait (fearspren spawning up around them) until the lashing broke and he impaled himself. you didnt have to do that man no one was around to see it

okay guys. i finished era 1 of mistborn.

i read that entire book over two days and finished the last half on a flight home. the way that i was SOBBING once i finished the book.

like are you fucking kidding? vin and elend holding hands surrounded by grass and flowers. im not okay. sazed tried bringing them back to life. tears.

I have missed reading Sanderson.

Within the first 80 pages, I have filled two pages in my notebook with theories/observations, I have had to google three words, and used multiple postits to remember certain points.

(I also figured out the narrator in the first 30 pages. Very unlike me, v proud lol)
