To My Love
Dear T
You've made it to my heart. well done. many have tried and many have failed but you have shown perseverance in fighting through all the forgetfulness and odd behaviour.
here you will find the first part of your gift, ive made you a mixtape that’s helped shaped the man i am today. these songs may not be songs that immediately catch your ear or your interest but hopefully their diversity will give you an idea of how my mind works.
Music means absolutely everything to me, I’m one of those people who takes everything to heart. there are songs that i listened to over and over regardless of whether or not the song has lyrics or not. The songs aren’t in any old random order either, starting off with the hyper energy songs i enjoyed in my youth. you know me well enough to know that at times i can be mellow and low energy but there are moments where I’m a Duracel bunny. i blame my youth. haha. i used to loooove dance music and Electro (believe it or not) once upon a time and a lot of the music here shows. I could say i had an apetite for anything with a little bit of an electronic sound or loads of bass, i kind of like house but i’ve always had mad love for peole who could play some sort of instrument. Another thing is 80s Disco and Synthpop. My absolute favourite band in the whole world is a Band called Metronomy. it was unimaginably hard tyring to pick out my favourite Metronomy song and i think the song that ive included here showcases the band at their absolute best. Weird sounds here and there and a big theatrical sound coupled with the right jazz instruments and Sthem could play the song over and over for hours. The middle of the mixtape is dominated by my favourite Hip Hop songs. There was a shift in my personality a couple of years ago where i hit pause on the electronic music and i listened to Tyler the Creator for the first time. I member it being a low point in my life and when i wanted to put all the happy clappy shit one side and listen to something angry. I didn't particularly have a love for metal and Tyler always produces his music with a little bit of influence from some of the bands i listened to when i was younger. From Tyler i stuck with the hip hop for a bit and I’ve yet to find out where i go from here. The end bit is a mixture of a more mature Sthem who’s desperately trying to hold onto his youth. the songs are a bit less hectic but the same influences are still there. i ABSOLUTELY LOVE Erykah Badu and im disappointed i had to wait so long in my life to immerse myself in her art. thats what the last bit is, its all artistic. Gone are the days of listening to sounds to escape and now i feel like i can fully embrace an artists creation with a clear and grown up mind. I’ve realised that i was unfair to artists for listening to their music in hopes that it can give me something in return.
i still have love for the old stuff but I’m always open to new sounds :)
