• the Dark Tower •
(my FanArt for Stephen King's book)
Tumblr media
I am a person, who has never read (shame on me) Stephen King. Until this year. But recently I started to actively listen to audiobooks, and thanks to such a convenient format of «book absorption» I decided to take up «reading» King's biggest book, which attracted me for many years, but frightened me with its colossal volume — «the Dark Tower». And I fell in love with this world from the first book! 🖤 A very atmospheric, gloomy and surreal world literally bewitched me and awakened in me a burning desire to DRAW!
The first (and title) fanart — my vision of the Dark Tower (and another attempt to draw the environment). This drawing took a huge amount of energy from me 🤯 The main difficulty is drawing with almost no reference. My brain will definitely remind me of this violence against him, I'm sure 😓
BUT: it was worth it. I'm veeeery glad! Long-art is finished! Can start a new one 😁

Diversity wins! The vampire-hunted dimension-hopping priest who lost his faith but is slowly finding it again is bisexual!

You may be aware that Stephen King suffered near-fatal injuries in 1999 after being struck by a car whose driver had become distracted by the driver’s dog.
You may also know that Stephen King’s Dark Tower series involves a fair amount of dimension-hopping at various points.
If you’re not a reader of Stephen King’s work, but you’re aware of the memes about his stuff, you may even know that, in the course of the aforementioned dimension-hopping shenanigans, the protagonists of the Dark Tower series at one point venture into our own world, where they encounter Stephen King – the man writing the book in which they appear – and that this self-insertion proves to be a critical plot point.
What you may not have picked up as a non-reader is that the 1999 hit-and-run plays a role in this event, in which the driver of the car is depicted as an unwitting servant of the Crimson King.
Like, imagine being that guy. You nearly kill a famous horror writer by accident, then five years later the guy publishes a book about a magic cowboy where one of the plot’s critical junctures hinges on you, personally, being a pawn of Cthulhu Santa Claus.

The Dark Tower by Stephen King. UK first edition paperback covers published by Sphere.
The Gunslinger was harmed in the making of this photo, it waited for me to step away and then belly flopped over the ledge.

The Can'-Ka No Rey ("The Red Fields of None") is the field of roses surrounding the Dark Tower. The roses are very difficult to remove from the ground. They have thorns that can rip into hands while they are in the ground, but become harmless after being removed. The roses call people to come to the Dark Tower. Their call is strongest at sunset.
