50 years of Auroville; Press kit; Auroville Captured on the glistening shores of Auroville, the Press kit highlights design which is accessible and easy to relate to. The book displays a simple structure, and embodies inclusivity with an audience spanning cultures and continents. Typography with ‘no frills’ and clean layouts lay the foundation for the document. Playing with scale and utilising the logotype provided us with a unique set of design motifs. This project is dear to us as it brings to light the confluence of birthdays between Auroville (28th February) and autopilot (29th February).

Auroville Film Festival; Posters and Press kit; Auroville Capturing the biennial event’s circular essence, the poster set is an amalgamation of graphic shapes, typography, and photographic overlays. Through a number of screenings, which were also supported by Kino Kabaret, the festival aims to connect with people and cultures to further the aspiration of human unity. Comprende? The 5th film festival also hosted a food extravaganza that showcased different international cuisines each night. As a supplement, in collaboration with Outreach Media, we also put together the press kit for the festival and as part of the 50th year celebrations of Auroville.

Loyal World Market; Photography and social media; Bangalore Carrying minimal camera equipment, two creative heads make a long-haul trek to Whitefield. The agenda? Shoot the store, the food in it, and dash out. A couple of hours later, the team has gathered enough visual content to use for an entire month. Designs in this project were created in a way that subtly but consistently resonate the identity of Loyal World Market. Word play and colours added to the mix as simple zoom-ins and juxtapositions of the photographs within the logo form, created unique social media pieces for the brand.

Astroyogi; Identity design, website and social media; New Delhi and Bangalore The combination of two essential elements in our daily life; the Sun and the Moon lead the visual identity for Astroyogi. Setting the optical illusion, the negative space in the half circle represents the moon and the line which forms it: the Sun. While the full circle represents other planets and planetary motion, the simplicity of the form depicts a microcosm of astrologers. Through the visual language, Astroyogi wants its audience to look beyond religion, gender, and see astrology as a science. The faceless mascot, is non-denominational where gender is left open for interpretation and is not defined.

Sindh Kitchen; Identity design, menus, leaflet and placemats; Bangalore From spices to orchards, ports to potters - Sindh is a land with a deep-rooted history. As the menu’s writing took a lyrical bend, visually, we were drawn to the topography and the historic Spice Route. Digging through dusty books and old maps we explored poetry, found mountainous stories and even chanced upon surreal expeditions taken during the Mughal Era. Likewise, the production too took a multi-layered approach exploring various print processes and traditional binding techniques. Dashes of nostalgia linger across the brand visuals, complementing the unique flavour of the North West Frontier cuisine.

Fish Chain; Van wrap prototype; Bangalore By utilising classic Channapatna toys as the scale models, these Tata Ace delivery-van prototypes reflect an endless community through patterning of the logo-form and repetition in video. Customised with wooden buttons and other organic accents, the brand’s playfulness is exemplified through the van’s rickety motion – perhaps mimicking the local roads of Bangalore/Coimbatore or referencing the soft waves of the sea. In chorus, the stop motion montage shows off the brand’s South Indian roots while parts of the design showcase the eco-rich plethora of sand and sea.

Fish Chain; Identity design, van wrap prototype; Bangalore Inspired by traditional South Indian art, the Fish Chain logo form references intricate geometric patterns like the kolam. The visual loop/links represent an endless flow; whereas the type treatment of dashed lines suggests a sense of receptiveness. Ocean blue, pearl and sky blue signify a mix of three natural elements - pearl being the cusp of the mix. The colours characterise the calmness of the sea, an aspect of freshness, and also take on a sense of playfulness - a child-like quality, which makes the brand accessible.

Shiatsu; Identity design and stationery; Switzerland and Bangalore Shiatsu aims to create a balance between the mind and body. It is an alternative form of medicine and healing that originated in Japan. The logo uses a sumi-e brush stroke, enveloped by a circle that symbolises the land of the rising sun. The upward lift in the brush stroke represents Swiss landscapes - where the practice is located. The logo fuses cultures/motifs and takes on the terracotta brown with a blend of sea and sky blue. The holistic form is minimal and emotes a sense of calm and wellness - like the art of Shiatsu.

The Colour of Dawn by Janaki Murali; Book Cover; Bangalore While the typography for this book is imagined as written by Kunjan, it leads into railway lines, hinting at the conflicts and crossroads that he, along with other pivotal characters face in their journey. The colourful imagery symbolises love, beauty and hope; whereas the greyscale/sepia tone with the tearing technique addresses issues such as fear, oppression, physical actions, and national chaos. The print edition features the deboss technique, which further emphasises the harsh drama and shows that even negativity has reason and hope.

The People’s Fabric (Studio Parva); Identity design; Australia, Indonesia and Bangalore The People's Fabric is a collective in Borneo (Indonesia) that craft handmade ikat pieces. The letters “O” and “A” visually form a person, while the multiple lines represent the many indigenous women involved in weaving these unique stories. The whole typographic form is similar to the patterns formed in ikat. The natural dyes used within the process lend themselves to the earthy tones we have derived for the identity. Showcased as statement pieces in Australia, they ensure a sustainable source of livelihood for the collective, thus empowering the women.

Give Freely (Barefoot); Identity design & website; Bangalore Our design premise, as we merged the letters ‘g’ and ‘f’, and connected the two ‘e(s)’, was to characterise the endless process of giving; a philosophy which is at the heart of the venture. This is a web platform built to help individuals give away material for free - for charity or for disaster relief. We were inspired by all things organic as we created supple arrows, stencilled, and stylised the typographic form. Apart from using clean iconography we utilised textures of cardboard, wood and leaves to make the web experience more cohesive.

Krukid; Identity design & stationery; Bangalore Shalini Narrain is a whirlwind of a character and Krukid, her fashion label, needed to be equally eccentric. As we began with wild, droopy illustrations and freeform bubble text, the artwork gradually morphed into a clear, composed structure. The boxed design contains what is perhaps the method to her madness - going from straight to topsy-turvy or topsy-turvy to straight. To attach a personal stamp from the artist, a star was introduced in between the letters ‘u’ and ‘i. The star can be viewed straight whilst turning the logotype on its head.

Yolk; Identity design & stationery; Bangalore The new version of this identity is minimal. With its clean typography, the yellow full stop signifies how it all begins and ends at yolk, how ideas get their finish at the company. The simple 3 colour approach is subtle as it moves away from the earlier bulkier version which utilised the alphabet O to show the egg yolk. The textured background references concrete and recycled carton found in egg packaging, and the italics depict a sense of motion, showing the studio is always moving forward.

The Local; Menu design & photography; Bangalore The Build your own burger (BYOB) menu, as the name suggests, was designed so that anyone can make his/her own burger. Packed in the smoked buns are juicy styles such as the Goan Caffreal, Kerala roast, Chettinad, Achari & Makhani. Photography peppered with quirky illustrations of chefs, animals, and drinks, were used to compliment the Indian culinary flavours. If you fancy some comfort food with a nice beverage, head over to the pub to see our work up close.

Side B Track 3; Identity design & stationery; Bangalore Initial sketches for this odd ball brand revolved around geometric shapes & right angles. The term made us think of digital lettering found in amplifier sets, cassettes from the eighties, and typography used by hip-hop record labels. Knowing the client’s musical influences also helped during the development. The final version is a combination of the first letters of each word along with the number 3. A neon variant of turquoise is used, contrasted with deep blue. The animation is electric, inspired by the glitches found on VHS tapes.
