Getting pissed off rn because I love Spider but some of you need to understand that he was never a Sully, Jake and Neytiri were never his parents and they never had any sort of responsibility towards him. Not only because he’s human but also, and perhaps most importantly, because he’s the son of their enemy, the person who killed Neytiri’s father and massacred her people. Stop villainizing them — especially Neytiri — for not fulfilling a role that was never theirs to fulfill to begin with.

Now, does Spider deserve a family that loves him? Of course he does. Does he see the Sully kids as family/close friends? Yes, but that doesn’t mean he was ever actually part of the family. Really really close friends often see each other as siblings, there’s nothing out of the ordinary in this. The ones who failed him were the McCoskers, his actual foster family, not Jake and Neytiri. They were supposed to be his family and to take care of him, not the Sullys. And also there is absolutely no way in any universe that he could have been an official member of the family. They’re Na'vi, he’s human. It would have been IMPOSSIBLE for them to take care of him as actual parents. And also, why would they ever choose to adopt him? A human child, Quaritch’s child? They adopted Kiri because she was Grace’s daughter and because her being Na'vi allowed them to be her parents.

Jake even spells it out loud very clearly at the beginning of the movie. He’s a close friend of the kids, but (obviously) not part of the family. Also blaming them, specifically Neytiri, for not seeing Spider as a Na'vi is actually insane. He isn’t Na'vi, not technically. She isn’t gatekeeping her culture. Spider wants to be Na'vi and in a way he is (certainly more than Jake is, as he says himself) because of his closeness to the kids and therefore to Na'vi culture. But that was a choice. It’s not because he’s a human born on Pandora (he isn’t the only one), but because he grew up close to Na'vi children and their way of life. Now, will Spider become an honorary member of the family? That’s entirely possible, we don’t know how their relationship will evolve. But rn the only Sully who actually sees him as an official member of the family is Kiri. Yes, Lo'ak and Tuk love him, he’s Lo'ak’s best friend. But Kiri is the only one who ever refers to him as an actual brother (of course she does, they’re both orphans, they relate to each other in a way Kiri can’t relate to the other Sullys). And also no, Jake’s line “a son for a son” wasn’t an official adoption, it was a father grieving and trying to fill the void his son left behind. (I actually hate that line so much, it does a disservice to both Neteyam and Spider, but that’s another point.) Jake never saw him as his son and that’s VERY clear, especially in the comics, but many people just choose to ignore this (specifically to make Neytiri look bad I would add).

The point is, we don’t know if Spider will officially become a Sully and how their stories will play out, but Spider is not an actual member of the family, he never was and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Drew that new creature from Avatar 3 again because we got some new images! Original piece i made is linked here . Idk i think i got it pretty well on the first try, especially considering the quality of the reference image lol!

The dorsal view is pretty speculative, since all the angles we've seen so far haven't been great. I'm excited to learn more about this critter!
