Can’t believe in 2025, the new Naked Gun movie was funnier than the newer Ghostbusters movies.
The director, cast and crew for the Naked Gun understood the assignment. Sadly can’t say the same for Ghostbusters.

(At Janine's birthday party)
Egon: It's a drinking game. Get a question wrong and take a shot. Oh, and the questions? They're all about Janine.
Ray: But none of us know anything about Janine.
Janine: Everyone's about to get real hammered.
(LATER)
Janine: What is my favorite soup?
Egon: (holding dry-erase board with his answer) Chicken noodle!
Peter: (holding up board) Potato leek!
Ray: (holding up board) Corn frickin' noodle!
(Ray looks at his board)
Ray: Oh, I meant chowder. Dammit!
Janine: You're all wrong. I've never had soup.
Peter: Don't bother, they all suck!
Janine: Drink!
(everyone, including Janine, slam down a shot)
(Later)
Egon: Battle axe!
Ray: Upper cut!
Peter: Disembowelment!
Janine: Guys, I was a baby. My first word was Dada. Drink!
(Later)
Egon: (holds up board that says "NO")
Ray: (holds up board with four lines of just the word "NO")
Peter: (holds up board that shows he drunkenly mispelled "NOPE," crossed it out instead of erasing it, and simply has an X to indicate a negative response)
Janine: WRONG! I can totally do a handstand!
(She flips down onto the floor by her hands, accidentally knocking something off the wall. Egon especially looks impressed)
Janine: TOLD YA!

I can imagine for Egon’s episode, in spite of his absence, his legacy still carries on…
One of his former students goes into research and developing paranormal tech, that he becomes a chief scientist in that regard. His name is Lars and he continues the research that Egon left behind.
That or, Egon saved a small and quirky town and over the years, he became their beloved mayor.
Instead of what we got, I wouldn’t have minded a limited tv series about the og ghostbusters.
Instead of Afterlife, it’s called Legacy.
Each episode focuses on the legacy of each ghostbuster. Of course, Janine has her own episode.
The series finale sums it all up.

I have no confidence in the current studio to deliver a good ghostbusters movie.
to circle back to the original topic, the only good ghostbusters movie imo is the original 1984 movie and that’s it.
I have to believe that only the even numbered Ghostbusters movies are bad (Answer the Call doesn’t count because that’s it’s own thing) and the next movie will be so good it knocks our collective tits clean off.

FE was a complete mess and at this point I barely remember the plot and characters.
But I thought Lars was alright, just poorly underwritten and underutilized. He should have been written as a former TA and student in Egon’s class or something.

Reblogging this again because I love this cover and that there were previously nine editions.
Egon got recognized on the street either as a ghostbuster or that guy who wrote books about mushrooms. Wouldn’t have it any other way….
New hobby just dropped: imagining the books that the Ghostbusters would write. Up first is Egon and mycology. Thanks @spengnitzed for the inspiration.
