Here’s something I’m curious about.
Picture this. You’re reading a book, a standard book divided into chapters. Let’s say it’s fiction (don’t know if nonfiction would get different results). You’ve been reading for a while and you want to stop for now. Assume you are not literally falling asleep, you’re still awake and lucid.
You are in the middle of a paragraph, in the middle of a page, somewhere in the middle of a chapter in the middle of the book.
“Power through and finish the book” is not an option, but if you really do that you have my sympathies.

Love In Focus by Lyla Lee
Tumblr media
The first two thirds of this book are truly amazing. I love the dynamic between Gemma and Celeste and how they fall into each other's orbits so well. The last third of this book, after the third act break up, felt like it took forever to get through. I didn't like James as a character, and I thought he could have been mentioned a lot less than what he was. The way how Gemma's story was told in first person and Celeste's was told in third person really threw me. I felt like we got to learn more about Gemma than we did about Celeste. Having her first person view would have opened the story up to include a lot more emotion and to show us how Celeste is feeling with Gemma. I really did love how they couldn't resist each other. They're so in love, and you can tell they were written to be soulmates. Their connection is there from the beginning, and when they're together, they try to control themselves, but they give in to their want for each other every time. This was a five star read for me for the first two thirds of the book, but the last part brought it down to a four star. I loved the representation in this book, and I would definitely read more from this author.

I'm really enjoying it so far. The first chapter pulls you and makes you not want to put it down. Once I'm done with writing group, I'm going to continue to read it until bedtime. I'll keep you updated.
TRCC 10th Anniversary Readathon Day 2
I didn't get to do a lot of reading today unfortunately. I did manage a fanfic that's been open in my browser for over a week and I started a new book.

Day 1 for me was a round trip to Sydney and back with @theomnilegent!
Today we finished an audiobook that we've been chipping away at for a few weeks. Tomorrow I get to pull a book off my TBR list to read!

A Rainbow of Queer Books for Pride 2025: Turquoise
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HAPPY PRIDE 2025! For Pride this year, we’re changing up our usual rec lists. Instead of doing books with specific identities or themes, we’re focused this time on cover color! Throughout the month of June, we’ll be doing 8 rec lists, each with covers inspired by one of the colors of the original Gilbert Baker Pride Flag. We drew a little additional inspiration from the meaning behind the color and why it was included in the original LGBTQIA+ flag (in this case, turquoise = magic), but we prioritized color over meaning. The contributors to this list are: May Barros, Rhosyn Goodfellow, Linnea Peterson, Tris Lawrence, Sebastian Marie, Shannon, Rascal Hartley, and Nina Waters.
Journey Home by May Barros
Aristotle and Dante Dive Into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
The Salt in the Sea by J.D. Rivers

Holy shit, this book was amazing.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, MCD, and Tess Sharpe for this opportunity. No Body, No Crime is a thriller/romance novel that weaves storytelling together through a non-linear timeline. Chloe Harper and Mel Tillman have been in love since they were sixteen years old and the flame burns bright throughout the entire book. Getting caught up in a murder, they both take different turns in life. Chloe is on the run from a threat Mel doesn't know about, and Mel, a Private Investigator, is determined to find Chloe and bring her home. When they finally meet again, they have to face down an enemy Chloe has protected Mel from for all these years. The relationship between the two women, who only want to protect one another, is one aspect of the book I loved. How they interact and care so deeply for one another was wonderfully written - the way they have each other's backs even when the plot thickens and takes a turn neither expect. The thriller aspect of the book had me trying to piece together the clues when each new part of the story was revealed. It kept me wanting to continue reading and not stop. There were twists I didn't see coming, and some I did see coming. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I'll definitely be buying a copy when it comes out.

It’s lesbian visibility week and that means it’s time to add some lesbian books to your tbr!
