A return to angst

For this piece I wanted to explore not previously well explored area, the time before Rocket could go outside/ before it was just common knowledge. Because a little while after chapter 11, Cry Me A River, Rosemary was still rather fragile emotionally but had calmed down slightly, enough to have better awareness of her surroundings. She became super ultra protective of Rocket during this time period and wouldn’t let them leave her sight, she needed to have them close by or she’d break down again. And after a while, Rocket developed some pretty complicated feelings about this.

On one hand they know that their mom is still very sad and going through a lot, they know she’s not constantly keeping them by her side out of malice, and they DO want to help her feel better, but… they’re also a bit frustrated. Resentful, even. They don’t like having to constantly stay in one place all the time, they don’t like feeling like one wrong move will set their mother off, and they especially don’t like the sudden switch from endless freedom and loneliness to constantly being watched and glued to her side.

It’s a complex, sticky situation, and neither want to be mad with their mom, they aren’t, but it’s frustrating for them both, especially being little kids who don’t know how to handle complex situations like this yet.

Please note that there is no good or bad guy here, everyone has their own motivations and reasons. I do not want to boil this down to a simple black and white affair because a lot of Domestic K-9 is made out of these sticky, complicated situations where there’s good reasons on both sides.

I've had the sketch for this finished for a while but I had to wait until I got home to actually finish it. Anywho, doomed besties!

Both Susan and Charles feel immense amounts of guilt for how the other died- Charles for how he didn't find Susan until she was literally minutes away from dying and was unable to save her, and Susan feels that asking Charles to stay allowed for Bon to find and kill him. It's a never ending cycle of guilt, as displayed here

I imagine that as Ashley's body rots the constant pain she feels dulls down slightly, but there's still plenty of flare-up days. Kinda like having chronic pain. But hey, she's happy for once

Experiencing the horrors in a comfy loaf

Takes place about a week or so after Breakdown on the Ballroom Floor. For a couple weeks after Charles stopped hurling himself into concrete Susan would shadow him or make him stay in her line of sight because she really, really did not trust him enough to leave him by himself yet. She does care, she's just... abrasive about it. Also her foot is supposed to be against the wall, but I nixxed the background
