I’m a sci fi and fantasy fan hugely enjoying The Rings of Power, so thought I’d show it some love.

My last post featuring these two was a joke, but I think I accidentally invented something. Two slightly unhinged father figures/leaders with facial scarring? Thrandar, anyone?
It could go one of two ways, depending on the time available…
A) A heartrending epic spanning hundreds of years, in which they destroy each other in more ways than one
B) An occasional series in which they reminisce about ancient battles, while complaining about ungrateful children and the current state of Middle Earth

Celebrimbor: “It is not strength that overcomes darkness, but light. Armies may rise, hearts may fail, yet still light endures, and is mightier than strength. For in its presence all darkness must flee.”
Fantasy isn’t always escapist. It helps to make sense of things. Through its format and tone, the Rings of Power is doing a really good job of showing how power corrupts in a particularly tragic way. People can be manipulated into evil. Sometimes their hands are tied: they have to make a move, and they are limited in what they can do, and end up making things worse. I know Tolkien didn’t like obvious allegory - and I wish it wasn’t that relevant right now! - but it seems a very appropriate story for what we see in the world today. And there is a message of faith in there, which doesn’t have to be religious. Sometimes we can’t change things apart from what’s immediately around us. Sometimes the only thing is to keep going and hope for the best.

Eleven throne calling Orc throne!
My first post - I was choosing something serious befitting the tragic tone of ROP - then it all went south when I saw the second gif and remembered the top one, of my favourite character from the Hobbit…
