This was the closest they’d been in 31 Earth years, which had felt extraordinarily long for Harry, even in his star form. He could hardly withhold his happiness at seeing him again.

“Erm, yeah,” Louis said, interrupting Harry’s thoughts with his brows furrowing and looking clearly suspicious. “And you are?”

Harry and Louis are literal stars who have known they were soulmates from their creation eons ago, however when Louis came to Earth to start the next phase of their fated future, he forgot everything. Even Harry.

This leaves Harry to break the rules and instead of waiting for Louis to call him to join him on Earth, he crashes down on his own. Without Louis there to guide him and help him learn how to adjust to having a human body and everything associated with that, Harry has no other choice but to do the best he can. 

As Harry tries to correct what has gone wrong, he finds that friendship can be a light even in the darkest night, and through those bonds even separated soulstars can find their fated path once more.

At the first hint of light, Louis was slowly brought back to consciousness by the growing swell of activity around him. It started in the distance with loud clanks and clatters and rose with the hollers of men and thudding of boots against the solid earth. He listened as he blinked the sleep out of his eyes and tried to place any sounds he was familiar with. It took him too long to remember that he wasn’t back in his rented room. The energy was what floated to him next, a buzz that made him peek through the leaves to see what was going on.

The next moments happened in the strange slow motion of dawn. Shadows were forming into people and things and, there in the middle of it, Louis watched the humongous head of an elephant emerge from a box car right in front of his eyes.

Louis can vaguely hear the grandfather clock chime downstairs, signalling the start of the ghost hour, and a shiver runs up his spine as he pushes the door open.

Part of him expects it to be jammed like before, but instead it swings open easily, and for a moment Louis’ eyes struggle to adjust to the darkness. Holding up his phone with shaky hands, he shines the flashlight over the furniture in the room, the curtains that in the daylight had looked so vibrant.

They look tattered now, hanging limply from the rod. The wooden armoire and the bed are ornate and beautiful still, but even from the doorway Louis can see a thick layer of dust, undisturbed for what has been probably the better part of a century.

Louis isn’t sure whether he feels relieved or disappointed, but he definitely feels unsettled. Because this room is what he’d expected to find this afternoon, and yet he can still see the boy he’d met then so clearly now, even when the room looks different from the way it had back then. He doesn’t even have to close his eyes to envision the way it had looked earlier today, and surely it can’t have been a dream, right? Had he gone into this room, expecting to find something more than just dust and forgotten furniture, and had his dream made up for the disappointing ending to a mystery that had only existed in his head?

When Louis moves into the mansion he’s inherited from his great grandfather, he has a plan that consists of three things. One, he’s going to finish writing the next novel in his series. Two, he’s finally going to get over his ex-fiancé. And three, while battling writer’s block and having to resist the urge to kill off the main character in his books – the hot detective based on his ex-fiancé – he’s going to restore the mansion to its former glory.

Unfortunately, Louis’ plan doesn’t take into account the fact that instead of writing murder mysteries, he will find himself in one.

The summer before Louis and Gemma's senior year of college was supposed to be their last big hurrah before they graduate college and become Real Adults in the workforce. They had it all planned and it was going to be filled with mornings skateboarding, afternoons at the pool, and evenings hanging out with as many of the neighborhood kids they grew up with as they can.

Of course, Louis wasn't planning on getting home and learning that Gemma's dad had gotten the house in the divorce and was dealing with things by focusing on work, the house, and his newly planted garden. It becomes obvious early on that Harry is a bit lost and Gemma is worried about him. To help both of them, Louis is more than happy to help Harry find himself again.

As the summer goes on, the adventures and day to day happenings allow Harry and Louis to spend a lot more time together than either of them ever anticipated and Louis finds it more difficult to keep his growing feelings in check than he ever thought it would be. After all, there wasn't a chance that Harry would ever be interested in Louis... right?

MY RECOMMENDATION: I first read this fic when I first started reading fanfiction and it somehow stuck with me. A few days back, I stumbled on it again and reread it in one sitting. It made me remember just how rewarding reading a great fanfiction can be.

This is a story of overcoming your own walls, your own defences and allowing people in. It is a story about prejudice and how it can affect our lives when we live in fear.

It's absolutely perfect.

Whether you miss the classic 2000s rom coms, think One Direction could be the perfect actors in one, or have watched most of the Christmas movies out there, this fic fest is designed for you!

These are the rules:

To participate, you must be +18 years old at the time of signing up.

All fics must have a minimum word count of 2,500, but there's no maximum!

All fics must feature at least one member of One Direction in the main pairing, and we accept all pairings.

Please make sure your fic is completed before posting it to the AO3 collection. We do not accept works in progress (WIP).

We do not accept any underage, major character death, or rape fics. All fics must have a happy ending.

Although it is not a Christmas fic fest, since it takes place in December and most Christmas movies are romantic comedies, only five Christmas fics will be accepted.
