my brain: the one we started months ago and still haven’t finished! what about that one?? when will we be working on that one again??

me: when i’m done with this one! now shut up and let me write.

my brain: you mean when you’re done with this one shot that we just miraculously came up with at 2 am last night? don’t you think your priorities are all over the place?

me: it doesn’t matter! this is making me happy right now, so that’s what i’m doing.

my brain: wow, how disappointing. you do realise you have two published and unfinished wips on ao3 and three wips in your notes app waiting to be completed, right? how irresponsible of you to- OH WHAT ARE YOU DOING??

Every time someone calls Shallan’s sense of humor cringe without realizing that it is part of her character… an angel loses its wings… my brother in Vorinism, she’s a 19-20 year old (in earth years) girl who spent all of her life in a horribly abusive household and developed her humor as a coping mechanism to make herself and her brothers feel better about living with The Worst Guy Ever. She’s not meant to be amazingly funny. She tells dumb dad jokes and that’s so stupidly endearing. Do u not get it. Kaladin is allowed to be cringe with his emo boy dialogue and no one complains about it…. Why can’t she……. The story is about 20 year olds Doing Their Best of course they’re going to be cringe

hi! just a question, not too personal-

if I'm going to say, publish my story in a book, is it bad to publish it in platforms like Tumblr/ao3 before?

hey :)

i’m not an expert, but i don’t think posting it on ao3 or tumblr is bad per say. it can help you build an audience and promote your work before you publish. you could ever get beta readers that way and get feedback on your writing before submitting to agents!

in saying that, i wouldn’t recommend posting the entire thing, because people will be able to save or download your work and if you end up publishing your actual book, there will be a free version out there that people can read instead of buying your work (and really, you should get paid for your work). you could post snippets of it instead so that when your book comes out, nobody has read the entire thing yet, there are no spoilers lurking around and people will still be willing to buy your book to read it! :)

I don't know if you've said this yet, but what's your favourite Skyward book and why?

Oooh an opportunity for me to yap about Skyward? Say less!

I think my answer is probably similar to a lot of other people, but the first book is my favorite. I still remember reading it for the first time and the rollercoaster of emotions it sent me on! It’s immaculate. The themes, the characters, the found family trope, the plot and twists! Amazing! I regularly re-read some of my favorite scenes when I feel down, it’s such a comfort book for me now. I remember not being able to shut up about it to my friends while I was reading it (and I still can’t shut up about it… obviously).

In saying that, I also really loved Defiant, not quite as much as Skyward but it’s up there! It was the perfect conclusion to the series and made me sob and scream and rage so much (in a good way). It’s honestly crazy how many emotions those books have made me feel, looking back… And the character growth? That’s probably what I love the most about this book. But yeah! My Goodreads review for Defiant is actually quite long, I just couldn’t stop talking about how great it was.

And of course, Evershore will always hold a special place in my heart too. It’s turned Jorgen into my favorite character. Reading about his struggles, anxiety and trauma was just… heartbreaking. In the best possible way.

So yeah! I know you asked about my favorite book (singular) but I have no self-control, so I yapped about three instead. Thank you for the ask! :)

you don’t know if others are going to resonate with your story or like your writing style like people in your usual fandom do. and it’s so intimidating when it’s a bigger crowd than what you’re used to.
