I think optimus is sercretly trying to make the autobots become extinct with the way he leads
Death to Optimus Prime
Why do you think he's a better character than Optimus?
Well, I don’t think he’s a better character than Optimus; I think he’s a better leader. And a lot of the reason why is wrapped up in that quote I listed as my favourite:
“Self-sacrifice is cheap, Magnus. It’s a cheap way out.”
It took Rodimus eons to learn that.
Optimus never did.
To back up a bit: Optimus is the big, shiny, archetypal Autobot hero. He has a strong moral code, there are certain lines he won’t cross even in wartime, etc. He’s always the first to hurl himself into danger. He’s a shining example to the troops of heroism, morality, and self-sacrifice. Especially self-sacrifice, because that practically defines heroism for Autobots.
That’s what Rodimus spent the entire war aspiring to be, and that’s very much what he’s still trying to be at the start of MTMTE.
But being a leader is different from being a symbol. Optimus has spent eons being a symbol, and in order to maintain that kind of purity, he turned a blind eye to the dirty day-to-day business of running a war. He lets other people do the awful things that need to be done, and he doesn’t want to know about them. People like Prowl do all of this stuff behind the scenes that allows Optimus to keep his hands clean, and when the veil drops and all of that is exposed, Optimus becomes enraged at Prowl. He never stops to consider the sacrifices that were made so that he could continue being the untarnished symbol of the Autobot Cause. He doesn’t think about his own role in this system, or take any responsibility. Optimus’s problem is actually not unlike Autobot Megatron’s problem. He puts the demands of his conscience, the need to see himself a certain way, above the actual good of the people who follow him.
Rodimus actually does the same thing as Optimus for a little while - he lets Drift talk him into punishing Drift for the Overlord incident, so that Rodimus can still be the shiny, heroic captain. But after everything that happens on Luna-1, Rodimus changes his mind. He decides that he owes the crew the truth about what happened, and about how he covered it up. He gives up his role as hero in order to be a better, more honest leader, knowing that he’s taking the risk, but believing people should know who’s leading them. And he continues, after that, to give up being the hero - or being seen to be right, or being the one who gets to save the day - in little ways, in order to do the right thing, for his crew or for the world. Even in small things, like taking Megatron’s side just so that Ultra Magnus will get angry enough to pull himself out of his funk. Rodimus sees what people need, and he provides it, even if he has to give up looking good in the process.
The other crucial thing is, just as Rodimus says, that self-sacrifice is cheap - or that it can be cheap. IDW Optimus in particular has a habit of running away when things get complex or when he feels like he’s screwed up, and he does it in the name of sacrificing himself for the greater good. Ironhide dies on a mission? Optimus turns himself over to the human authorities to be imprisoned. He doesn’t even make plans with the other Autobots on Earth for what they’re supposed to do without him (and, indeed, the faction splits and a lot of them get captured in short order). The war ends and all the neutrals start coming home, and it turns out they’re mad at him? He resigns as Prime and goes off to have space adventures. It’s always framed as something he’s doing for everyone else, but really, it’s an escape.
And in Dark Cybertron, Optimus actually chides Rodimus for not doing the same, saying he should have just resigned as captain instead of putting it to a vote. But I think Rodimus’s choice showed better leadership skills - and more guts. He decided to stay put and take the hit, and work to regain the trust of those crew members who didn’t vote for him (and to prove that the rest were right to give him another chance). He didn’t abandon them. It’s not as noble and morally clean a gesture, but it is the right choice.
I think that, by getting to the point where he’s willing to be a leader above being a hero, Rodimus is ahead of most of his faction, including Optimus. There’s a great scene towards the end of Dark Cybertron where Optimus, Rodimus, and a few others are attempting to escape the Dead Universe, and the other Autobots are basically competing for who gets to sacrifice themselves to open the portal. Rodimus is the only one who stops and says, hey, maybe none of us actually need to die to get out of here? Could we - could we maybe give that option a shot? And it’s striking, because self-sacrifice is seriously a lot of Autobots’ first choice. It’s part of the culture, almost.
I hope all that made some sense; I tend to ramble when I get on the topic of Rodimus. :)

Death to the Non believer
He’s body was rebuilt by the bloody fucking matrix and allows him to fucking raise TITANS!!!!!!
ARE YOU FUCKING WITH ME IDW
JUST KILL OPTIMUS ALREADY.
Optimus Prime: Atheist Pope
Optimus Prime is a known atheist, he doesn’t believe in the Guiding Hand, or the Knights of Cybertron, and he thinks of the Matrix as just a tool to be used.
This was clever when they first introduced the idea, but it has to be one of the worst character traits IDW has given him.
He was chosen by the Matrix during a time where Cybertron needed a warrior to lead. It even warned him against using its power.
The Matrix knew that Cybertron was going to go to war, and it saw Orion as the best one suited for the job at the time. However, the war went on much longer than the Matrix thought it would, and more importantly, Optimus himself lasted longer than the Matrix wanted. Primes are Primes until they die, mainly because they don’t hand over the Matrix to someone else until they die, and Optimus should have died with the war.
Cybertron doesn’t need him as Prime anymore. The Matrix doesn’t want him as Prime anymore. He shouldn’t be Prime anymore.
He is a nonbeliever, speaking to believers as if he is one, and that is one of the most insulting things to do to believers. He is saying the words and phrases of their religion with nothing behind them. His followers say these words with everything behind them.
He is manipulating the people that believe in him and their religion.
It’s really no wonder Pyra Magna hates him so much, trying to publicly denounce him and take the Matrix for herself.
But I do not believe that Pyra Manga should be the next Prime. She is too extreme in her beliefs, and her whole life she’s been surrounded by people and a culture that stressed faith in their religion. If she became Prime, she would most likely force her faith on the rest of Cybertron, not understanding that the rest of Cybertron neither wants nor needs faith right now.
You know who has always been religious, is compassionate and empathetic towards other people, and has already been accepted by the Matrix?
Rodimus.
Optimus was never the One True Prime, that position has always been Rodimus’s, and he deserves to be recognized.
Yes, this just became another RodimusForPrime2k17 post
(If anyone has anything to add, please feel free to comment)

Death to Optimus Prime.
About IDW Optimus Prime
You know what? More and more I am realizing that Optimus isn’t really the mech he’s all cracked up to be.
I mean I was kind of on the fence and like “what” when I found out that it HURT him when he bonded with the Matrix, but then when I found out Shockwave had him physically modified (along with others, mind you) so he’d even be ABLE to carry the Matrix, it was kind of like…yeah. It called to him, but it was stuck in the dusty, forgotten underground of Cybertron for who-knows-how-long and was probably desperate to bond with someone, ANYONE with a good spark, and Orion Pax was DEFINITELY a mech with his spark in the right place but like…he naturally would have not been able to carry the Matrix, and even with the modifications, it still physically and mentally hurt him to bond with it.
And now he’s galavanting around the galaxy, trying to stay in control of every situation everywhere because he can’t handle the very THOUGHT of someone doing what was once HIS job, let alone even CONSIDER that they might actually be able to do it BETTER THAN HIM - especially whereas those someones are DECEPTICONS (or at least, were).
Soundwave? A peacekeeper? Setting up a relaxation and rehabilitation center for neutrals and Decepticons? Ridiculous!
Starscream? Ruling Cybertron? Bringing together lost colonies and helping them in their time of need, and trying to unite all those of Cybertronian origin? Impossible!
Megatron?! An Autobot?! A reformed mech, captaining a starship on a quest for the Knights of Cybertron, and saving people - mechanoids AND organics - along the way? Blasphemy!!
Face it, Optimus. What are YOU doing? You act like half an empty Matrix gives you the right to boss everyone around and keep calling yourself “Prime”. The people wanted you to leave for a reason - so why did you come back and start doing the same thing over again, but with even more force?
You cannot set foot on Earth and defeat some Decepticons, and then declare the planet yours. You cannot decide who or what is the ‘Ultimate Evil™’. You cannot take advantage of a people who view you as their god, nor keep perpetuating factionism and prejudice, nor force Earth and humankind into things they have not agreed to. You need to learn that it is no longer your place to be in the center of everything, and that you need to take a break and make peace with yourself before you can make peace with the rest of the universe.
Megatron’s figured that out. Why can’t you?

I needed this.
All artist need this.
Thank you.
note to self: just because someone did the thing you were thinking about doing, and did it way better than you could ever hope to do, doesn’t mean it would be stupid or pointless to go ahead and try to still do the thing anyway.
