Jeffy did SUCH a beautiful job with these photos. I’m so glad I have photos that show off the gradient in my cape ( it only took me 9 hours to dye ha )

Back from Overload, and we won the Madman comp! We’ll be flying out to Australia later in the year to compete in the finals as the New Zealand representatives ~
Thank you to everyone for their support and kind words on the day. I felt like an extremely edgy ita lol

Over the last month or so I’ve been working on Ailane-samaaaa for Overload this weekend. I’ll be preforming a skit with my Peipein! ( loosely based off their first game episode haha )
It was my first time making a steel boned corset! Somehow it was easier than I thought it would be. I’m scared to count how many metres of lace got thrown onto her. . . I mostly used twinkle satin, which has glitter infused into the material to give her that idoru sparkle~
I also wefted two wigs together since she has so much hair ( RIP combing it ) and her guitar comes apart for travel purposes.

This costume was a special kind of hell to make. I’ll make a separate post with construction notes, but for now, enjoy the sparkledog~

Foam Wig Tutorial
I wanted to remake my Rhys wig in a way that would compliment the cel shaded style of Borderlands, rather than fight it the way wig hair does. While I was moderately happy with how my first wig turned out, it still wasn’t what I was going for:
It’s fiiiine I guesssss, but it looks sloppy, it didn’t fit quite right, and it’s not as stylized and chunky as the rest of my cosplay.
I turned to the internet, but I found surprisingly little about making wigs out of foam. I know it happens all the time. But why was there no tutorial?? So I winged it (wung it? no), and now I’ll share what I think was a successful experiment with you all. At the very least, I think it makes a good starting point.
You will need:
Wig cap
Cling wrap
Masking tape
A sharpie
Wig head
Scissors
2mm craft foam
Foam for the hair (I used more craft foam)
Hot glue (a lot of it)
Modge Podge
Acrylic paint
Here we go:

Wao, okay so apparently people really like furry nins. . . I wasn’t expecting so much positive feedback so here’s some better detailed shots and some of my process under the cut!
The guitar is made from wood, with the large middle panels gorilla glued into place but the ‘blade’ and top section can be removed and screwed into place for travel purposes. The fiddly detailed parts are all sealed wondeflex. And the patterned blue stuff all over my costume and props is reflective tape, hence why I’m lit up in my original post.
The wings are ply wood, layered with foam core. Even though its heavy, I wanted them made from wood so they wouldn’t get damaged while I walk around a con floor. Yes I have already smacked into doorframes because I’m a clumsy ass. They’re bolted into a circular panel that sits on my back ( 3rd picture ) and rigged up with a harness that goes under my track suit. There are hemmed holes all over my costume so the harness is very much hidden from sight~
Arashi’s sides glow, so there’s also reflective tape up the sides of my tracksuit, and there are snaps all over the costume so the chest, and shoulder armour can come on and off easily ( I’ve fainted in heavy/complicated costumes before, so getting stuff on and off fast is always high priority for me! )
The chest armour is up for debate, in images it always looks like an integrated part of his track suit, but for the sake of me wanting to move like a normal human being, I viewed it as a seperate piece of armour entirely. The base is thick craft foam, sprayed with adhesive glue and 4 way stretch pleather formed on top. I wanted a very shiny, futuristic look for Arashi and didn’t think I’d achieve this look with worbla/prime/spray paint. Snaps were sewn onto the back. All his other armour was treated in the same manner.
And lastly, the tail is wired up so it curls like a shiba tail~

Thanks! Its reflective tape, the stuff that bikes have :) so it glows under flash. Here’s what it looks like without flash~
long time no update! This weekend I’ll be wearing Arashi at Wellygeddon, he’s been a lot of fun to make <:
