I remembered my crow (well, raven), the other day, along with some new stuff about myself!
I had above average eyesight, as I've talked about before iirc, but that was only during the day. While I don't think there was a name for it, then, I was night blind! If there was little to no moonlight, I wasn't able to see anything in front of me. The darker it was, the more I relied on my hearing, and noticing movement rather than specific objects. At home I usually just carried a lantern with me on the rare occasions I would be out and about at night. However, after joining the Corps I did a lot of training to make up for that weakness, and I made a lot of progress!
My raven, Tomomi (I liked to call him Tomo sometimes), would act as a guide, as well. Telling me how far away something was, gently nudging me if I was going the wrong direction or if something was in my path. I remember when we traveled at night, I would listen to the flapping of his wings in order to follow him- especially if we were rushing to a mission. He spoke fairly clearly, but I remember his voice was still a bit rough. Sometimes we would have conversations, though more often than not I'd just talk while he listened.
When I made food, I'd make some for him, as well, and we'd have meals together. As someone who didn't go on missions with people I recognized very often, Tomomi was a much needed constant in my life. And a great companion.

i don't know who needs to hear this, but for those of you who don't "act enough like" your kin, you're enough. for those who don't look like or sound like them, who have different speech patterns, who dress differently or have an entirely different aesthetic. for those whose life experience currently has nothing to do with their kin experiences, for those whose professions or hobbies or interests don't line up at all with your canon. for those who don't experience memories often or experience them in a way that can't be put into words. you are enough. you are who you say you are and no form of metric can tell you that you're not. the people who may be looking for you from your canon or source will still love you, i promise. you are you no matter what!

Sumika, Kaito, Hanami- your older brother misses you. I'm sorry I couldn't help you that day. If I'd been home I could've saved at least one of you, and that'll stay with me always. You were all so well behaved, and kind. I would give anything to have been able to see you grow up.
Takuto, Takito... I'm sorry you suffered. It must've been so much harder for you than it was for me. I'm sorry your younger brother wasn't strong enough to help. I'm sorry I didn't show up in time.
I should've been home, I should've been under my own blankets instead of out at the river. I only wanted to have enough time to catch a whole lot of fish for Mother's birthday, and surprise everyone with a large meal... I could've waited until morning. I should've waited. But I didn't, and now you're all gone.
Mother... If nothing else, I hope you weren't afraid. I hope you never had to see what happened to your children. I hope you were sleeping and didn't have a clue... I miss you so much, it hurts. I have no idea how I ever managed to forget what happened. How I wasn't born into every life with that memory hand-carved into my skull... I'm so sorry, Mother. I'm sorry.
I hope you all, wherever you are, have a better life now. I wonder if we'll meet again, someday? I wonder if you'll ever remember? I'm not sure whether I want you to, or not...

I had 3 (almost 4) younger siblings, and my two older brothers were twins. From oldest to youngest, there was: Takuto, Takito, Me, Sumika, Kaito, and Hanami.
We grew up in the woods near a coastal village, and our father was a fisherman. Sometimes he was gone for a while, but that was part of the job. Us older brothers would go out and do work for some extra money. I would personally go out and sell some of my mother's paintings, and do odd jobs around the village; my brothers would sell lumber. We hunted and fished a lot, too, since the combination of woods and rivers made for plenty of resources.
Our father had incredibly heightened senses, and was very strong- these traits got passed down to us kids in one way or another.
Takuto had great hearing, and could hear animals or people approaching from far away. Takito had this weird sense of smell- he could figure out different quality meats and herbs, and could even smell things like sicknesses. You can still do that, in this life, but he was exceptionally good at it.
I personally had pretty good hearing and sight; though it was mostly towards things like movement and small details. I could recognize people by their footsteps/breathing, and I could tell from the way a creature walked/held itself if it was young/old, healthy/sick, etc. Very helpful when it came to hunting and fishing. Though, I couldn't see details very well in the dark, so I mostly relied on my hearing when out at night (which was rare).
Samiko was strong, and helped mother around the house a lot. She lifted the pickling stone like it was as light as our siblings 💀. She never really talked about her senses, so I'm not sure if hers were average or not, but her strength was always very impressive, especially since she was still very young.
Hanami was such a sweet baby- never fussed, barely ever cried. It was like she knew we'd tend to her even without her letting us know. Kaito adored her, and always talked about how she smelled like flowers, though I can't say whether that was accurate or not, lol. He loved being her older brother, and he was always trying to hold/carry her.
I always found this hilarious, but Kaito had a very sensitive/strong sense of taste. I'm not sure how helpful that would've been as a skill, but we definitely had to alter meals for him on many occasions so he could eat. Especially when it came to salt levels, which was hard during the winter when we ate preserved fish, but we managed. I remember Kaito was born weaker than the rest of us; my father blamed it on having a bad season and not being able to feed mother well enough. She always waved him off.

Random memory I got today: I remember talking to the idiot trio /aff (Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu), kinda just making small talk and stuff since I didn't really know them that well yet. Someone mentioned Tanjiro's sense of smell and I was like!! My brother was similar! (Most of us siblings had heightened senses- thanks dad for the genetics!) And we're talking and then he fucking. Mentions smelling emotions, basically, and I was like. Wh- Pause. Rewind. What the fuck is an "angry scent"??? What are you talking about.
And then they continue on while I'm sitting there, completely lost, and then Zenitsu's experience with sound is talked about, and skfjsdkdk. I remember very vividly, and very tiredly, being like. "These guys aren't normal.. I can't keep up.. Are they monsters..?"
Like. My siblings and I had heightened senses, but they stayed in their lane, y'know? The weirdest it got with that my brother could kinda smell sicknesses, but that's something normal people can do, anyways, so it's not even that weird! Good hearing just meant being able to hear animals/people approach from far away, etc- not fucking. hearing the Vibrations of The Universe 💀
They were a next level type of weird, idk. Still a bit of a fond memory, though, lol.

[bursts into the inbox, trips, tries to catch myself, fails terribly]
I JUST REMEMBERED MY NAME. AND MY CLAN NAME. AHHHH IM SO RELIEVED, I HATE THIS PART OF BEING NONCANON SM AND IM GLAD TO HAVE THIS HURDLE OUT OF THE WAYYYYY AHHHHHH. Also! Being able to write my siblings full names out... It feels really good, actually. I not only remember them, but I remember their names, and it feels like I can hold them a bit closer to my heart, now. Like we've reconnected in that small way.
AHHHH just in so many ways I feel so much better. I usually don't get so caught up on names, cause I'm in no rush and know it'll come to me eventually, but this felt so important. Like it wasn't just for myself, but my siblings, too, y'know?
Skdjskf Idk if any of this makes sense but yes!! Literally ran here after I confirmed everything lol.
