Chinese Names + Naming Resources
Some of my most popular posts on this blog have to do with Chinese names. It seems like a lot of people who reblog those posts enjoy writing and are saving the posts as resources for naming their characters. So, I wanted to share some additional resources that I’ve found and used.
Resource #1: Name104
This site reflects names from Taiwan. It has quite a few different pages/features to explore. Just make sure you only enter in traditional characters–it won’t work properly with simplified characters.
First is the name generating tool (線上取名工具軟體).
You can specify the surname, if you want a one character given name, the second character of the name (aka first character of the given name), number of strokes, and things relating to luck. The specify second character feature is really useful for if you want a common 字辈 across names. The site will generate a bunch of names, and you can click each to learn more.
The tool I find most useful is the name similarity tool (名字相似度查詢). You enter a given name, and it will show a popularity score as well as lists of common names with the characters you included. The score is people/million, taken from college (I think) entrance exam takers over a 15 year period.
The default name when you click on the page is 心怡. This one is pretty popular. If you know you really want a name with the character 怡, you can enter in 怡怡 so it will show all the most popular names with this character (both in the first or second position), like below:

Chinese Time of Day Vocabulary
I’ve been keeping a list of words/characters related to times of day since last year. You probably know basic words like 早上, 上午, 晚上, etc. But there are so many other words and characters you may encounter in your language journey! Note: this list isn’t meant to be complete.
Sunset (I think) by Tian’anmen Square about 3 years ago.
Dawn/early morning
天亮 tiānliàng - dawn / daybreak
日出 rìchū - sunrise
早 zǎo - early / morning / Good morning! / long ago / prematurely 一大早 yīdàzǎo - at dawn / at first light / first thing in the morning 早上 zǎoshang - early morning
旭 xù - dawn / rising sun
昕 xīn - dawn
晓 xiǎo - dawn / daybreak / to know / to let sb know / to make explicit 破晓 pòxiǎo - daybreak / dawn
晗 hán - before daybreak / dawn about to break
晞 xī - dawn / to dry in the sun
晨 chén - morning / dawn / daybreak 凌晨 língchén - very early in the morning / in the wee hours 早晨 zǎochén - early morning 晨曦 chénxī - first rays of morning sun / first glimmer of dawn 清晨 qīngchén - early morning
朝 zhāo - morning 朝阳 zhāoyáng - the morning sun
黎明 límíng - dawn / daybreak
The single characters above can be found in Chinese names. Some are quite common.

Don't be discouraged if your favourite langblr posts every day and you can't seem to do the same.
I have ADHD and of course my interest in languages wanes from time to time, but I have my queue set up to post at least once a day, and I do my best to keep content in my queue.
Like so many things on the Internet, what you see on people's blogs isn't always their reality. Don't beat yourself up if you start to lose interest in a certain language, or if you can only post language jokes sometimes. It's your blog, after all, and you decide what to put on it - not every langblr has to be full of vocabulary lists!
Don't worry about keeping a consistent schedule if that's hard for you, and remember that your blog is your own. 💕

Where to learn Welsh!
There are a few ways to learn Welsh, and often people struggle to find the resources so I’ve decided to create a list of the resources I know for learning Welsh.
Say Something in Welsh - This course offers both a south walian and a north walian option. It also has a mobile app available on android and ios
Learn Welsh | Dysgu Cymraeg - This site is made by the Welsh government to provide learning for the Welsh language and has a range of skill levels available to choose from, as well as offering a choice between dialects
BBC Bitesize Welsh Second Language - This site is aimed at students in Wales currently looking to take Welsh Second Language exams, so may be slightly more advanced and likely will have minimal information for beginners. However, it still has valuable information regarding grammar and also offers listening, reading and writing tasks to help improve your skills
BBC Bitesize Cymraeg - This resource is aimed at first language Welsh speaking students looking to take the first language Welsh exams. It will be extremely difficult to navigate without a strong understanding of the language but may still prove useful to more advanced learners looking for reading, writing and listening practice
Duolingo - While it isn’t the best for learning grammar, it is a valuable resource when it comes to learning vocabulary and practicing skills such as listening and translating. It is also good for practicing grammar patterns you may have previously learned. There are notes available on the desktop version of duolingo that do provide some level of grammar explanation, but these are sadly not available to mobile users
If anybody has any other resources to add to this list, please let me know by reblogging as I would love to find new resources for both myself and other learners! Diolch yn fawr iawn :)

LGBTQIA+ Vocabulary in Welsh!
Hey, everyone! Since I'm a queer Welsh person, I figured it was important I share some of the common queer terminology we use in our day to day lives, but in Welsh! Enjoy!!
Lesbian - Lesbiaidd
Gay - Hoyw
Bisexual - Deurywiol
Transgender - Trawsryweddol
Pansexual - Panrywiol
Non-binary - Anneuaidd
Queer - Cwiar (Can also be seen just as queer)
Questioning - Cwestiynu
All the information on this post has come from Stonewall, who's page has more terms than what I'm sharing here. Please take a look if that interests you. Also, feel free to share any additions or corrections! <3
