Someone just told me a joke that wasn't funny, not because it was offensive, but because it was just a sentence. I'm not sure what upset them more, that I didn't think it was funny or that I wasn't offended.

So here's the thing, I'm not afraid to annoy people because I'll be perceived as annoying. I'm afraid to annoy people because I was met with unfettered rage and physical harm when I was perceived as annoying by my parents as a child. A majority of these grievances were just from existing and taking up space. It was unpredictable what would set them off in a given moment.
So yeah, when I'm asking for things I don't want to be perceived as annoying for asking because of that hardwired programming. I'll keep reminding myself it's not true but habits built out of survival as a child really are hard to cut down as much as you stare them in the face and tell them they're wrong.

unpopular opinion
this is for you "why is there a story above the recipe" assholes. you do know there is a "jump to recipe button" on almost every recipe page right. or you could just search for the word "ingredients" and it will take you down to the list.
stop whining that something someone is putting together for free doesn't exactly meet your goddamn wishes. come up with recipes yourself then you little bitches.
i hit the 'jump to recipe ' button 50 times while you wrote out your tired old free labor complaint. I could have hit it more but I fell asleep with your lack of originality.
fuck off

you know that quote about how if someone says it's raining and someone says it's sunny, the job is to stick you head out the window and report on which is happening not on both opinions. This is how I feel about how the news is covering the arena protests in Philadelphia.
"There are lots of protests because some people are saying this is a bad deal for Philly and are mad, over 70% of the city says this is bad and they don't want it. Other people say it's good." Those are the actual stories.
Hey I don't know, maybe report on the actual numbers.
Maybe report on the public information of kickbacks. Maybe report on Harris-Blitzer newly founded company that states their plans to buy real estate around sports arena. Maybe report on what happened in other cities. Maybe report on the reality of the traffic plans and how many people actually drive not their pretend numbers of 40% of people who are going to take public transit who currently don't. Maybe report on the loss of tax revenue and actual cost the taxpayers will have to bare.
Maybe report on the fact that city council and the mayor are doing their own thing regardless of what the people they are representing are asking for. Maybe report on how they are being bought.
Maybe when reporting don't give greater weight to the one white guy that doesn't even live in the city saying he likes the idea and has money to spend over the 400 people who each saying how this will destroy the communities and set Philadelphia up for failure for years to come. That is not equal footing.
I'm just so angry and frustrated. Having facts not reported and treating each opinion with equal integrity is lazy at best and deliberate at worst. I know billionaires own the media but it is still painful to see how many people shill out their fellow working class and homes all for what

I learned something new this week. People from other towns can just speak up your local council meetings and say shit like "we should destroy this neighborhood so once a year I can visit and spend like $50. I have money you should listen to me. who cares no one's that lives here wants this." And then also the paper quotes them and ignores the other 100+ people that spoke about all the reasons to please not destroy their homes and neighborhood.

I just realized it is "owning the libs" rhetoric. maybe that's why it makes my eyes roll
this is going to be a take but I have to get it off of my head.
do I think declaring you're not voting for one candidate on a position neither candidate holds is nonsensical and performative? yes
do I think it's the above group's fault trump got elected? no
do I think taking credit and gloating that the candidate didn't get elected because of that one position is fucked up? omg yes what the hell is wrong with them. my only take away from this is that these people revel in others suffering
do I think both taking credit that Kamala didn't get elected because of the position that neither candidate held AND also saying don't blame us that Kamala didn't get elected because we didn't vote for that one reason is hypocritical? absolutely. either own up to your delusional smugness (cause it's not true) OR shut the fuck up and stop spewing your creepy revenge fantasies as moral high ground
I mean I shouldn't be surprised. these are the people that
don't show up for other elections or pay attention to any other elected positions
for some reason want the democratic party to change rather than realize the democratic party is centrist. that's not the party for them then
if they actually paid attention to politics would realize there are progressive candidates who run for local offices that lose by a few thousand or sometimes just hundred of votes
think the presidential position is some magical position and the rest of the government is inconsequential
need to come to terms with the fact civic duty is boring and requires collaboration not hate
I'm salty because I wish these loud performative people would show up for the small local elections. it would make such a huge difference if the performative but do nothing progressives actually voted for the progressive candidates. I don't care if you don't consider yourself a democrat, switch just to vote in the primary so we get the most progressive dem on the ballot then switch back. fuck with the system that way by infiltrating like spies. mess shit up for real instead of practicing edgy sound bites in the mirror.
~48% of the population doesn't vote in presidential elections. there's nothing special about sitting out an election. just another small blip of people that don't care. so please shut the fuck up while the rest of us try to make a positive difference while minimizing the harm done to everyone not just those we think are worthy

I had a friend who was looking for a shoulder to cry on. She was having an affair (both married). She was upset he wasn't leaving his wife because she was so superior to his wife. And then she proceeded to describe this woman she thought was beneath her. She described a woman who looked like me, was overweight like me, had depression like me, and was struggling with their depression like me. How ridiculous their pairing was, could I believe someone would choose that woman over her.
So yeah, we are no longer friends.
interaction i have with shocking regularity is when someone’s complaining abt someone they know and theyre like “ughh they’re 21 and dont have a job and refuse to learn to drive” and then they remember who they’re talking to (me. 21 cant work cant drive) and go like

That split second of confusion when you've been telling a story and then someone corrects you with what you said. Wait, did I not just say that. It was half a second ago, let me think.
I was talking about a great highway exit as a rest stop between cities and was saying 83c that's for me. Yup go to 83c.
And at the end a dear friend who was there corrected me and said "83 C. There is more than one 83 and all the stuff you are talking about is at C. That's important. "
Cool cool, you've heard me give this spiel before, so you tuned me out, that's fine. But you can't come back in at the final second and be an asshole about it.

Just another day existing in the world being fat.
Much like I get cookbooks to get inspired even though I've known how to cook for over 20 years, I'll also check out new workout routines.
I just picked up a book at the library for more bodyweight and dumbbell routines. That stuff's my jam.
The librarian flipped through my books as per usual. She likes to read the interlibrary requests and often has thoughts to share. This time though, she looked at this book, then at me, and told me not to waste my time. If I wanted to "learn how to exercise" I should go to the YMCA. And it's not that she said it once. She kept repeating it. Not handing over the book until I acknowledged her specific suggestion. Was she waiting for me to say "you're right what was I thinking?"
And it's just, she was making a whole lot of assumptions at that moment about my level of fitness and bass knowledge. Things you cannot tell by looking at someone.
When I was skinny, no one ever questioned if I worked out before. No one ever told me that trying a new athletic hobby was a moot point. Nor have any of the variety of hobby books I've checked out over the years sparked her to comment. "Oh don't bother learning how to do that, just buy it, you won't really do it anyways, save your time and money."
It would be nice to exist without people sharing their assumptions that I must be fat because I've never heard of physical activity. Even checking out library books isn't safe.

Fake jobs. They are very very real. Quite plentiful in offices.
I just saw a post about fake jobs and it got me thinking of where I'm at.
Last year my real job was getting bogged down with more and more fake work. I bemoaned how half my job had become that. Rewrite this same information in a 4th format. Attend meetings where people complain about the same thing endlessly. The equivalent of a kid pushing vegetables around the plate, they're still there.
Due to office jobs being office jobs with people quitting, departmental reorgs, firings, I've been managerless for about a year. Sure I've reported to someones, but they had no idea what my job was and couldn't be bothered. My projects got done, no complaints, I made them look good with no effort on their part.
So in the past year with no oversight, I instead worked on the things that needed to get done. Had an actual useful impact and spent my time on things that were interesting. I now spend less actual time working too with more to show for it. It wasn't until I saw that post I realized, I've stopped saying half my job is fake. Well isn't that interesting.

You ever get an off feeling about someone but you don't know why? Not an earth shattering "they are a villain." Just, something that makes you decide to be guarded and act with caution.
We got a new coworker on our team in January. Very personable, funny, respectful. But there was still one thing that gave me pause and I couldn't put my finger on it, until now.
I finally got a glimpse of the thing my senses were going off on. They threatened to can an entire department that has been around for 11 years and just got accommodation. They did this because someone asked them to provide more detail in their requests. This person has no such authority to fire anyone let alone a department, but that was their go to, where most people would have shrugged and say "sure."
But yeah, trust your instincts kids. You built out that gut for a reason
