General tips on how to punish and deal with Smash 4 Diddy Kong. -- Watch live at http://www.twitch.tv/nakat973
Watching this, I realized that it's not so much that Diddy is super good, but rather that he's a wakeup call.

A Newcomer Turns the Table - Super Smash Bros. Fan!

Konichiwa! You may have encountered me on various forums in the 6+ years I have been on forums such as IGN, Nintendo Life, Mafiascum, GameFAQs, NeoGAF, and most prominently, Smashboards. Might as well throw out Video-Game-Info Forums as an honorary mention since that was the first forum I've ever signed up for. Regardless, I have been on a ton of forums with a well... colorful history and there's a chance you might know me under at least a different username. But for those who have never stumbled upon me, don't worry, you'll learn to love me. :) I'm not going to write up another big post considering my browser decide to be lame and crash it. As for who I am, I'm going to be posting back here a lot so you'll find out soon enough. And now that exams are over, it's time to get addicted to Smash again. Super Smash Bros. Fan

OKAY SO I HAVEN'T POSTED IN FOREVER
Been too focused on Smash Wii U, I guess (that, and I discovered Nichijou, so that ate up some time).
As for my character changes in Wii U, I use Villager a lot more in this version, as well as thinking about picking up G&W, Dr. Mario, and Dark Pit, but I'm unsure on that. Mii Brawler is also a lot of fun for me.
the music though omigosh it's practically the jesus of video game soundtracks

Wow, it's been a while since I posted in here, or most of us for that matter. We've been busy playing the game. For now, I'm maining Bowser, Fox, and Shulk. We've also been playing matches against a person by the name of Moon Monkey. We'll post videos whenever.
For now, here's something fun for once the game can be music modded. I decided to take the Gulty Gear Xrd soundtrack and see which song can go on which stage.

Oh, wow.
I just noticed that I haven't posted here since the game came out. Whoops.
ANYWAY, the game is just... SO much fun. Was hoping I'd be good with Duck Hunt and Pac-Man, and I am, the music's phenomenal, Smash Run and the single-player are actually pretty enjoyable.
All I really have left to do is beat all of the challenges and collect all of the headgear and custom specials for the Ultimate Challenge (Since I already have all of the costumes).
Luckily (or maybe unluckily, for some), that will take quite a bit of time for the specials, but I'm getting there. Over 250 and Charizard, Jigglypuff, and Kirby are finished up.

This should help Shulk players.

Full account of how each Monado Arts stance affects your stats in SSB
Sakurai did make a post on Miiverse indicating what each stance does, but it turns out he wasn’t completely thorough! There’s not much documentation in the game about this other than random tips, so I went into training mode to test out all these stats and how they change.
The scale is fudged a little bit for readability (1 represents the worst possible result for each stat, 3 is the default, and 5 is the best possible) but if people are really seriously actually interested in the exact numbers from the testing I did, I can provide those too.
[Note: the run speed stat also improves your horizontal movement in the air]

Damn Projectiles Part 1
At one point or another, you're gonna find yourself frustrated with projectiles, whether you're on the receiving or giving end of it. Here's some info I've gathered from testing these characters out in Training Mode.
King Dedede: Gordos have two paths: the long range or the short range. Long range goes out farther and vertically covers Dedede's height. Short range travels about 20 to 25% of the distance the long range covers, but its vertical range is 50% more. Gordos can be tossed back, preferably with your character's FTilt or FAir depending on the scenario or character. Don't forget that if Dedede is in range of the gordo, he can toss it again.
Mario: His fireball goes half the distance of Final Destination. Air Fireballs are shot from 30 degrees below him.
Luigi: His fireball covers 40% of Final Destination. It flies in a single fixed path regardless of the height it's done from.
Peach: Turnips thrown either with a smash input or not have a slight difference in distance when thrown, 20-25% of Final Destination. This will probably not make a large difference in practice. If a turnip is thrown and caught again, it can only be thrown up to five times before it automatically disappears. When thrown in the air, the time it takes to land is the same amount of time it takes for Peach to pull out another one if done right away.
Bowser: Despite its appearance, the hitbox for the initial blast is actually only 75% of the fire. This move inflicts only a percentage per hit. As such, it's mostly used for counter poking the opponent or to control space a bit. If Bowser does this at point blank, he is at the disadvantage and can be hit before he can do anything.
Yoshi: Yoshi's eggs have only a handful of set paths: directly above, above at an angle, and three mostly horizontal paths. Take the latter three into account as there may be blind spots. I wish I could provide pictures for this one especially, but Training Mode does not have a Snapshot feature.
Rosalina: Luma can be launched anywhere from 40 to 80% of Final Destination's length depending on the amount charged. Star Bits isn't as much of a projectile as it is a poke.
Bowser Jr.: Canonball covers 50 to 90% of Final Destination and has a slight bouncing bit at the end of shot. Down B covers entirely Final Destination and then some. It can be picked up as an item, but it will explode after a second or two.
Mr. Game and Watch: B goes a decent distance, but its trajectories are random.

Thoughts So Far
I’ve had the game since the midnight release and it’s time for my thoughts so far,
The big picture is that this game is great. It’s very different from previous games so let that be a warning. For most characters, you want to be on the ground walking. You will want to run to close in, but it should not be used for footsies, IMO.
Online is hit and miss. A huge oversight on the developer’s part is that you have no way of knowing the connection strength before playing. This is especially frustrating in For Glory where a loss could be because of lag. This is still a huge improvement over Brawl’s though. Be forewarned that the variable lag can impact the viability of characters online.
Now for the characters that I’ve played with.
Palutena: I was lost on what exactly to do with this character. Her tilts are active for a long time and her attacks generally do high damage. With her default moveset, she is definitely focused on whiff punishing. So you have to be patient with her. Use auto reticle for chipping away and zoning. Use Reflect for edge guarding and projectiles. Use Counter for close ranged defense where she is weak. Use Teleport and bullfighting tactics to make your opponent whiff.
Duck Hunt: Probably the closest we will ever get to Banjo-Kazooie in Smash. This team has a variety of projectiles that will give opponents headaches if you mix them up while barraging them.
Wii Fit Trainer: This one is an enigma. Her hitboxes are smaller than they appear, but numerous attacks allow you to cover her from behind. She has footsies potential but I’m just scraping the surface. She also suffers in online lag because the timing for Deep Breathing is inconsistent.
Bowser: This one clicked right away. I had to play him. This guy hits hard, but you should mostly keep him grounded and learn to mixup how you land. DAir and Down B are telegraphed moves so use them sparingly. Use fire to control the opponent’s space. Tilts are also your best friends.
One thing I’ve come to realize is that you need to be in the center of the stage. Depending on the character, you should only go to the edge when edgeguarding.
That’s all for now. I may talk more about it later.

I cannot believe Super Smash for 3DS is coming out in less than an hour. Well, for me my store's getting it in the morning (I wouldn't be able to do a midnight release anyway, too much school work + early classes). We've waited so long for this game... it almost feels very surreal.
For those getting the game I wish you the best of fun. I know I'll be busy for a while!

Johnknight1 knights up the sky!!!
~His Knightliness Himself~,
Johnknight1 has shown up to save you from your Smash boredom by sharing his Smash boredom, hypedom, and other doms that haven't yet been discovered.
In case you can't tell by reading, my name is John, although on the webs I generally go by "Johnknight1". I got that name by beating "the best kid in town" at Melee with his main (Link). My name being John, he knighted me the best Link. When I first started using "Johnknight" I added the 1 because I was #1 in my town.
In future blog posts I will proclaim why I am not just #1 in my town, but give you all the latest on my quest to become the #1 smasher at... something. Or nothing. It remains to be unseen.
But really, I'll be covering lots of Smash 3DS, Smash WiiU, Project M, Melee, and occasionally random other games that relate to Smash and heck, even Smash 64.
Oh, and in case you didn't know, I'm the biggest Toon Link fan ever. I've mained him in Smash since 2003 when I first played "the Wind Waker". Expect a lot of him. And more of him.
Oh and other characters that I plan to play, with those characters being Lucina, Ness, Fox, Mii Gunner, Dr. Medical Degree-wielding Mario, Bowser Jr. ROY Koopa, Pit/tinted Pit, Wii Unfit Trainer, and the new Blue Guy who isn't the old blue guy because he has a gun. And other characters I may pick up and enjoy along the way.
Lastly, be warned: if you think you're safe from the New World Order references, be warned: Scott Hall's body hair will consume you. Because here on Simply SMASHING Blog, we have something of a NWO problem, so you better WATCH OUT! You better not cry! You better not pout I'm telling you why! The NWO is going to wreck your town!!!
Thanks for reading the threats warnings promises of destruction and total chaos that will result in imminent bloodshed ladies and gentlemen!!!!
Signed,
The Now Former Head of WCW and the Current Official Spokesman of the New World Order (NWO),
Eric Bischoff
P.S.: All hail the Virtual Version of the Virtual Boy

Quick Unlocking Guide
Checking some of the requirements to unlock characters, I came up with this to unlock all but Jigglypuff and Wario rather quickly.
1. Wii Fit Trainer > Unlock Falco 2. Falco > Unlock Ness 3. Bowser on 7.0 > Unlock Bowser Jr. 4. Mario on 7.0 > Unlock Dr. Mario 5. Palutena on 7.0 > Unlock Dark Pit 6. Marth on 2.0 or higher > Unlock Lucina 7. Link on 7.0 > Unlock Ganondorf 8. Ness 9. Any previously used character > Unlock Duck Hunt 10. Duck Hunt > Unlock Mr. Game and Watch 11. Lucina 12. Bowser Jr. 13. Mr. Game and Watch > Unlock ROB
Wii Fit Trainer can be any character other than those listed later on.
Jigglypuff requires you to clear Classic 25 times. I have not read anything saying that it must be 25 different characters, but assume it does.Wario is said to be unlockable after clearing 100-Man Melee. Use DK's Down B to grind through that.
