Captivatingly Reckless
Draco Malfoy x oc
Part 2 Prefects
Platform nine and three quarters was in Flora's sights. If she was going any faster she would be running and shoving muggles out of the way. To be going back to Hogwarts meant to be leaving home and Merlin she was desperate to be out of that house, or rather away from her mother.
It had became the norm for her to leave for school on bad terms with her mother. This year being no exception as she thought back to the events of the night before.
☀︎☽☁︎⭐︎
Dinner had been served and like many other times it was just the two of them in the dining room. For such a large room with exquisite views of the grand gardens, Flora always felt it to be suffocating. Other than to save face in public, the mother and daughter only really spent time alone with each other during meal times.
"I expect a letter in advance if you will be returning to the Manor for Christmas is that understood?" Her Mother raised her brows.
"I've got a lot of work to be doing so if you end up arriving here without notice I'll have just too much on my plate." Lilian often looked down her nose towards Flora when she spoke and it made the young girl feel so worthless, like she truly was beneath her mother and would never be good enough.
"We wouldn't want that now would we." Flora grumbled and shoved a piece of chicken into her mouth to mask any words she spoke reaching her mother's ears.
"Also do sort out that moulting feather duster that keeps flying into the bathroom window." Lilian was well aware it was a Weasley owl that kept crashing into the house late at night and was repulsed her daughter felt the need to associate with blood traitors. She knew however there was truly nothing she could do to stop her daughter from doing so as it seemed as of late all Flora wanted to do was antagonise her.
"His name is Errol." Another mouthful of chicken hid that comment also.
One more night and Flora would be at school and wouldn't have to walk on egg shells constantly.
"Oh Merlin's beard I thought I told that incompetent gardener to take out those blasted sunflowers!" Lilian thought aloud as her eyes wandered through the window to the expanse of gardens outside.
"But I planted those. I planted them for you at the start of the holidays" Flora had dropped her fork now and her face had contorted into that of confusion.
"You only did so because your father used to plant them and you thought it would gain a reaction from me." Lilian placed her spoon down and dabbed the corners of her mouth with a napkin.
"Merlin forbid I try to add a little splash of colour around here." That time she didn't hide her words behind a mouthful of food. Her eyes wandered around the room at the sleek colourless room.
"They're only flowers, they don't mean anything." her mother shrugged as if nothing held sentimental value to her.
"You're right, I mean you've gotten rid of everything else that reminds you of father, we both know how memories of him are such an inconvenience to you." Flora's voice was monotone as if she wasn't surprised in the least that her mother would do such a thing.
"You really are a disrespectful, spoilt brat! I would never dream of speaking to my mother in such a manner." Lilian practically seethed, making visible the vein in her forehead that protruded mostly when Flora and herself didn't see eye to eye.
"Just add me to the list of inconveniences you seem to be raking off. Question is though, am I behind Father or Errol?!" Flora matched the level of anger her mother was showing now, dropping her collected facade. For such a large room, the tension was enough to suffocate anyone.
"Some day your actions will have brutal consequences Flora and you'll only have yourself to blame."
"You can't have regrets for what you don't care about mother, you should know that better than anyone else."
☀︎☽☁︎⭐︎
It would be an understatement to say Flora was looking forward to getting to Hogwarts.
Her luggage was placed on the train and she made her way through the compartments in search of her best friend.
Elise Campbell saw Flora Dalton first as she stood at her compartment door on the train, and had been since arriving ten minutes ago, so she could finally see her best friend after what felt like the longest summer apart.
"There she is! The one and only Ms Flora Dalton. Oh how I have missed you!" Elise had already engulfed the brunette into a tight hug slightly rocking the two of them from side to side. She clearly caught the girl off guard as she stiffened from the sudden contact before hearing the loud voice of her best friend.
"Right Campbell let the girl breathe."Blaise Zabini rolled his eyes as he pried the two girls from one another.
"I missed you too El." Flora couldn't help but chuckle as Elise pulled her into another quick hug after already being pulled apart by Blaise.
"Dalton, long time no see." Flora hugged him next before sitting opposite him with Elise beside her. "Heard you caused some mischief this summer." His raised eyebrow and grin made her scoff.
"Our Flora?! Don't be absurd, she's good as gold aren't you dear." Elise stifled her giggles as she was all too aware of how Flora could be when she was either bored, or alone with her mother. During first year Elise made the mistake of spending Christmas with the Dalton's so witnessed firsthand the no good she got up to at home.
"So I assume all of our mothers are pen pals then. They're all too gossipy for my liking." Slouching back into her seat, Flora folded her arms with a slight shake of her head regarding her mothers actions.
"Where are the others, they're usually rambling on about quidditch or something by this point?"
"I haven't seen Daphne or Theo yet." Elise spoke with a look on her face as if she was trying to rack her brain for whether she had in fact seen them and she had just forgotten. Flora often teased the girl for having the memory of a goldfish. Without Flora, Elise would most likely forget her last name and need to borrow Neville Longbottom's remembrall.
"Malfoy and Parkinson made prefects so I think they're in a meeting in another carriage before they do their rounds." Blaise shared the information Crabbe told him when he noticed him and Goyle sitting with a group of other Slytherins when first getting on the train.
"Can't say I'm surprised to hear that, pug face can be quite intimidating to younger years when she gets power hungry, those are some of the qualities they look for in prefects aren't they?" Flora's sarcastic comment would've sent Theo into fits of laughter if he was here but instead she received a ghost of a smile from Blaise who knew her words were true and a small slap on the arm from Elise.
Some time had passed with the three sharing different stories of their summers. Within which Harry Potter's name inevitably came up.
"Apparently Dumbledore was at the hearing." Elise piped up.
"Surprise. Him, along with every other Gryffindor get special treatment. Dumbledore was probably the only reason he's allowed back to school. If it was anyone else they'd be expelled and that'd be the end of it." Blaise ranted showing his distaste towards the situation. Flora got the impression that Blaise neither liked nor disliked Harry Potter, but rather hated all of Gryffindor because of Quidditch rivalry. That and probably Malfoy's obsession with the boy, automatically making him zone out of most conversations regarding the chosen one due to Draco's incessant complaining of him.
"Is someone feeling jealous that they don't get enough attention?" Elise giggled at Flora's patronising comment to which Blaise rolled his eyes.
"Im going to get a drink, anyone want anything?" Flora stood to her feet looking to the other two in the compartment.
"Perhaps something sweet since Blaise is so bitter!" Elise mocked the boy who regretted showing any emotion at all now. He knew when the girls were joking and was just grateful Theo wasn't also here as he definitely couldn't bare all three of them together.
"Oh how you wound me Campbell." He muttered to the smug looking girl from across from him.
Making her way through the train, towards where she thought the trolley might be, Flora couldn't help looking through each compartment window to see the different students. Some were terrified first years and others were fast asleep clearly sick of the long journey to Hogwarts.
She kept on her way until some familiar faces came into view from through one of the windows.
"Gin hey, how are you?" Flora beamed opening the door to which four heads turned towards her now present figure.
"Flo! I tried to find you at the station but we all got a bit caught up. How's you, good summer? Here sit down." The red head rambled and pulled Flora down next to her, giddy to be seeing her friend she wrote to all summer.
"I'm better now I've got to see you." Ginny beamed at this.
The younger girl looked up to the Slytherin despite only becoming good friends last year when Flora helped her get ready for the Yule Ball. Ginny had been upset in the girls bathroom the week before the event because she had nothing to wear when the Slytherin girl found her. Luckily for Ginny, Flora Dalton was a sucker for a good movie makeover moment and helped the Weasley girl with borrowing one of her countless dresses. Ever since then Ginny has only ever spoken highly of the girl, always coming to her defence when her brother Ron complained about Slytherins and explaining they clearly weren't all alike.
"Harry, congrats on not getting kicked out, close call for a moment there wasn't it." Flora acknowledged the boy next to to Ginny.
Harry was still surprised anytime he heard her use his first name, it was almost unnatural for him to hear coming from a Slytherin. Nevertheless he chuckled a her comment knowing there was no malice in her words.
"Alright Flora." He sent a warm smile her way. Flora also greeted a shy Neville Longbottom who was holding a potted plant in his lap that was unfamiliar to her but her attention was mainly focussed on a quirky looking character sat in the corner.
The girl wore a striped cardigan and an odd pair of glasses covered her face. She kept her wand behind her left ear and was holding a magazine upside-down, seeming to be reading it.
"Oh Flo this is Loony... Luna Lovegood!" Ginny rushed as she recovered her words. "She's a Ravenclaw." The red head introduced Flora to the peculiar blonde.
"Hello, nice to meet you Luna." Flora nodded in the girls direction with her polite greeting. Luna pulled the upside down magazine from her face and looked to the brunette Ginny had introduced her to.
"Oh so you're Flora Dalton. Padma Patil has mentioned you before." At that Luna lifted her magazine back up to cover her face as if to continue reading. This comment would spark more interest in Flora if only she knew who Padma was.
She looked to Ginny who shrugged in confusion about Lovegood's actions. Luna was indeed quite odd. Flora bid the small group a small goodbye and left Ginny the promise that they would catch up soon.
The trolley wasn't too far away now so she got herself a drink and some sherbet balls to take back for Blaise in an attempt to be funny. They wouldn't be too far from Hogwarts now she thought and this was confirmed when she heard her name be called by none other than Pansy Parkinson.
"Oh Dalton it's only you. I was about to reprimand you for not being sat down somewhere, we'll be coming into the station soon." Pansy tried to flick her short hair as if to show the new green badge she adorned. Flora knew there was no chance of a stealthy escape now that she had been seen.
"Parkinson." Flora greeted with a curt nod. "Enjoy your rounds then." She tried to leave but Pansy wasn't finished.
"Oh I shall. Being a prefect is an important job you know, without us well you never know what could be going on. I expected to receive the role mind you. I hope you didn't have your sights set on it?" Pansy tended to blabber on, one of the reasons why Flora couldn't be around her any longer than necessary, and of course could brag until her ego exploded.
"Well it suits you." Flora spoke through gritted teeth and a pained smile. Pansy really twisted her the wrong way and knew exactly how to push her buttons.
"Oi you two, you're blocking the walkway." Came the drawl of a voice oh too familiar to Flora.
"Don't worry Dracey, I've got this one. Dalton was just on her way." Parkinson's voice was close to whistle tones the way it had shifted when speaking to Malfoy. The pug faced girl had turned to Draco immediately upon hearing his voice, making it now possible for Flora to make gagging motions at Parkinson's expense.
This hadn't gone unnoticed by Draco and he did struggle to hide his smile that Pansy now thought was directed to her.
"Dalton, pity you're not prefect we could've been doing rounds together." He spoke to the girl, missing the exasperated face of a love struck Pansy.
"Literally anything else sounds more appealing Malfoy." She began, "I'm sure you and Parkinson will enjoy all the alone time on late nights patrolling the school grounds. Almost romantic isn't it?" Flora could see Parkinson's face light up unaware she was actually teasing Draco who was slowly becoming more aware of the situation he was now stuck in.
Draco thought Flora to be an evil little thing to be putting ideas into Pansy's head, like she knew the girl could be irritating to him so she liked to encourage the situation. It was like she enjoyed seeing him uncomfortable.
"Anyways I have to get back and make sure Blaise hasn't hexed Elise." Flora was definitely pleased with herself when she saw Draco cringe a smile to Pansy who had latched herself onto his left arm now.
He watched her walk away, his mothers words still with him. He questioned whether he was indeed keeping the wrong sort of company. Or perhaps Flora was just a difficult girl who was forever pushing her luck so needed someone to rein her in.
Draco could picture himself as that person. Probably not whilst Parkinson was hanging from his arm. Draco enjoyed attention but the constant oggling from Pansy was relentless and annoying. At that he felt this year called for a little shake up. He was going to take his mother's advice.

Captivatingly Reckless
Draco x oc
Part 1 Nott manor
☀︎☽☁︎⭐︎
They had both arrived to an evening at the Nott's home along with a handful of other families. The excuse was a send off to the children leaving for school again in a few days when in actual fact they would be neglected and forgotten about all night. Flora found this to be her favourite of all the outings her mother would drag her to. Theodore Nott was her age also, they were in the same house at Hogwarts, both going into their fifth years and Merlin they could make each other laugh. Flora and Theo would gravitate towards each other during these little get togethers to people watch.
"Oh honestly Flora I am quite astonished!" Theo chuckled as some of his drink splashed due to his careless and over exaggerated arm gestures.
"You can stop with the posh voice, no one is around to listen to us Theo." Flora rolled her eyes recalling the countless times she would trick him into thinking his father was approaching the two of them in the midst of their commentaries. "Besides the Attwoods need all the fashion advice they can get. Surely you can only turn so many animals into scarves, it's just barbaric."
At this point Flora had propped her feet onto the chaise lounge along side Theo who was starting to get more comfortable. He hated these parties, they put him on edge and he couldn't stand when his father held them.
"Yeah well neither of us need to be getting an earful later tonight for speaking out of turn, or falling asleep!" Theo nudged the girl now pretending to snore.
"Theo it's that posh boy voice, it just drones on and then next thing I know..." Flora snored loudly again to receive a hard nudge almost sending her to the floor.
"Okay okay whatever, you're just jealous I can turn mine off and speak normally. You're stuck sounding like that forever. Before we know it you'll have a fluffy little woodland creature sitting around your neck." Theo referred to the fashion faux pas Mrs Attwood adorned and prodded at his friend to which she slapped his hand away.
"On to more pressing news however, Elise told me Pansy was asking after you. Maybe she has finally moved her sights from Malfoy to yourself Mr Nott." Flora teased Theo fully aware of the disdain the two of them held for the pug faced girl.
"We both know your bestie Elise likes to gossip and exaggerate things though don't we Flower. And let's be honest the day pug face stops fawning over Malfoy will be the same day Trelawney actually predicts something!" A snort escaped him as he mulled over his own words.
"Don't shoot the messenger. Parkinson is probably just covering her back for when Malfoy finally caves and rejects her outright. She will need a new target, that's what leaches do they suck all of your energy and you happen to be in her line of sight behind Malfoy." Flora stated matter of factly shooting a pointed look to Theo almost warningly.
"You two already that bored that you've resorted to talking about yours truly?" A new voice drawled out startling the two. Platinum blonde hair came into view. It had grown since the last time Flora seen him. He was taller too but he still looked as pristine as ever and unlike Theo's, his shirt was still tucked in neatly.
"Ah speak of the devil and he shall appear!" Theo theatrically sang making Flora giggle and Draco playfully roll his eyes.
Draco often found the two in a corner at these sort of functions. They never really mingled around the room. Now Draco wouldn't go as far as to say he was jealous but whilst those two could sit and chat all night to each other, his parents would showcase him to any and everyone they could find and make him converse with people he had never met. So indeed he was jealous.
"Manage to sneak away then Malfoy?" Theo questioned as Malfoy only ever seemed to talk to them for a few moments at these parties before he was back to working the room.
"If so then you really did a horrid job because here comes your mother now with mine close behind." Flora grumbled clearly agitated as her and Theo stood up straightening their postures.
In a moment of realisation Flora also quickly grabbed hers and Theo's glasses and discarded them on a table behind them to which Draco sent a knowing look. Flora shrugged at him and the three of them put on wide smiles simultaneously.
Lilian Dalton and Narcissa Malfoy had been acquainted for quite some time and would often write to one another. Flora couldn't tell if they were actually friends or whether they simply kept each other company. It was clear the two didn't have many other people to turn to for solace.
"My look at you three, you all look lovely all dressed up!" Narcissa beamed at the small group that were already starting to grow taller than their parents. Draco sent a smirk to Theo and Flora who were mumbling small thank yous.
"Oh Draco your Mother has been telling me all about how your studies are coming along. I must say how lovely it is to hear of such excellent work." Lilian's words whether she intended it or not were icy to Flora but her smile did not falter.
"Yes indeed I also mentioned to Lilian about how well you..." At Narcissa's input both Theo and Flora found an escape to slip away whilst the attention was on the Slytherin Prince himself. Flora thought it to be the one time she had ever been grateful for his presence. The two scurried off but not before she quickly turned back to mouth a 'sorry' and give the boy a small shrug knowing he was now outnumbered.
Draco watched them both leave and perch themselves across the other side of the room where Mrs Attwood was now making her way towards unbeknownst to them. His line of sight drifted from his mother directly in front of him to Flora and Theo as the night went on. He couldn't seem to find an exit in the conversation.
At this point the party was dwindling down to an end and Draco and his mother were merely waiting for his father and Mr Nott to return from the upstairs study. Lilian Dalton wouldn't leave until Narcissa did so that meant during this entire time Draco could see Flora and Theo in fits of laughter in the far corner. For some reason Theo was now wrapping a dead fox scarf around an unimpressed Flora which had him doubled over clutching his stomach. At least Elise Campbell wasn't here, the three of them would've been wrecking havoc by this point. Most likely in a strategic manner to end the dreaded evening sooner.
"So whatever are the plans for this year Flora? The papers say Potter avoided expulsion in the end after his hearing. Fancy that, he can defeat The Dark Lord as a mere baby but struggles to make it all the way through school." Theo was now sloshing around a new drink he had picked up from somewhere and was tugging Flora to sit by him near the fire after escaping Mrs Attwood.
"You know this is the last place we should be speaking of such topics." Flora became all too aware of some of the guests within the room. She was also aware of the select few who had left sometime ago upstairs and were yet to return, Theo's father included.
"Besides I think what you really want to ask me is however do you catch the attention of a girl, now you have Parkinson on your tail. If you could call her a girl, I see her as more of a demon sent to bring misery to our lives." Flora held a hand to her heart to show she was there for him when he needed the girl advice he clearly wasn't about to seek out anytime soon.
"Oh is that right Flower? I'll make sure to send pug face your way then the next time I see her since you deal with her so well, best of friends you two." His sarcastic lopsided grin earned him a playful shove but Flora's expression warned him of the severity of his words.
"She may be horrid but she certainly does not compare to this oaf I know. Oh what was his name? Leo? No Rio? Whatever it was, this boy..."
"Is devilishly handsome, a comedic genius, the sun of your universe that you revolve around?!" Theo interrupted before any insults could be thrown his way.
"He wishes! No, this boy can really throw a temper tantrum like none you've ever seen." Theo was already rolling his eyes at Flora's exaggerated arm movements and mocking voice, and she was trying to say he was the dramatic one. "I remember on one occasion he refused to leave the common room to go on the Hogsmeade trip because it was raining!" This earned her an exasperated groan in response from him as he hated any time she brought this up.
"I don't know how many times I have to tell you, I had a pumpkin pasty that just didn't agree with me." His eyes grew distant as he shuddered at memories that seemed to haunt him.
"Merlin forbid anyone cross you when you're not feeling your best. You really did shout at me for suggesting it wasn't the pasty but rather you didn't want to get your hair wet." Flora took a large swig of her drink and looked to the fire that was still going strong. Although she loved talking with Theo, she really was tired.
Mesmerised with the flames before her, she yawned.
"That boring am I?" Theo had turned his head towards her, it still resting on the large armchair. The glow of the fire illuminated his face. Flora could also see his heavy eyes and hoped this meant it was getting late and the party would end soon.
"I should go find my mother, should be leaving soon." He gave her an understanding nod. The two stood and faced each other neither knowing whether to hug one another or shake hands but resulted in a simple high five before departing ways. There was no need for proper goodbyes as they would see each other soon at school.
In no time at all Flora had spotted her mother over next to the door where herself and all three of the Malfoys were putting their coats on.
"Ah there you are Flora, where on earth have you been?" Lilian hushed her voice slightly as she passed her daughter her coat.
"Just keeping up appearances mother, just how you like it." This elicited a tut from her mother and a secret grin from Draco who found it amusing to watch their little squabble. He liked seeing it wasn't just his parents that were overbearing.
"Well Lilian as always it has been a pleasure." Lucius graciously bid his farewell followed by a hug from Narcissa and a promise to write soon to her.
"And you write to me also while you're at school. It feels like you and Draco have grown so quickly, where has the time went." Flora's eyes darted to him where he seemed to be in a similar situation with her own mother. Narcissa squeezed Flora's arms before bringing her into a quick hug.
"I shall don't worry." Lilian and Flora gave one last farewell to the three Malfoys before all of them disapparated out of the Nott home.
☀︎☽☁︎⭐︎
Like most nights, Draco was writing in his journal upon returning home. His thoughts still lingered on the party as he tried to recall the names and faces of new people he met. It would be embarrassing for his family if he was to mix any of them up the next time he seen them.
Minor things like remembering names seemed futile now. He felt the change that was happening, something much bigger than him or anything he could imagine. Draco wasn't stupid. He was certain it had everything to do with Harry Potter supposedly encountering the Dark Lord during the Triwizard Tournament last year. Whatever was around the corner seemed to have his mother in a constant state of worry and had his father locked away in his study all too often.
To Draco family meant everything and that was something his mother had taught him from such a young age. She would tell him he could have anything and everything he wanted but none of it would mean anything if he wasn't with the ones he loved. Draco was sure he loved his family or at least was certain he would be upset if anything was to happen to any of them. That's what love is, isn't it?
"Draco." His mother quietly called with a single knock already pushing his bedroom door slightly ajar. He quickly threw shut his journal and lost it amongst his bed covers. "You're still awake I see."
"You aswell." He nodded towards her as she sat herself down on the edge of his bed. She looked around his room before her eyes finally landed on her son.
"It was nice to see you with your friends tonight." She spoke as if she was trying to find anything at all to say.
"We only spoke a short time mother. The three of us aren't that close." He explained but her reaction was only of confusion.
"You have all known each other all your lives, I find that hard to believe." Narcissa was always so sure of Draco but he was growing up quickly. Too quickly she feared.
He was her only child and it was important she knew him. She never wanted him to think she didn't care because that would be far from the truth. She probably loved him too much that it was all she was capable of. Some nights when he was away at school she couldn't sleep because she was so filled with dread. That was because she knew what was looming. Draco may have had his suspicions but never would he come close to the actual fact of the matter.
"Theo and Flora seem like much better company than, who is it again, Gregory and Vincent?" Narcissa had met Crabbe and Goyle a handful of times. She would struggle to tell you anymore about the two other than their names for truly they seemed to be quite frankly dull.
"Crabbe and Goyle are my friends mother, what is this about?" Draco suddenly became curious why he was being questioned of the company he kept so late at night and so close to returning to Hogwarts.
"Nothing dear honest." She sweetly smiled. "Just if anything, promise to make more of an effort with others this school year. Good friends are so important. And Flora's a lovely girl, we wouldn't want her getting into any trouble. Her mother has been telling me she's been turning into a bit of a handful as of late." Narcissa was a smart woman. She wanted Draco to be supported in every aspect of his life. His destiny was out of her hands but so help her she would do anything in her power to protect him.
"Are you trying to ask me to spy on Flora this year so you can report back to her mother?" Draco was simply baffled and couldn't understand what his mother was trying to say to him.
"No of course not don't be silly" she began "I'm looking out for you Draco. People like Flora Dalton and Theodore Nott, you want them in your life. They're the kind of people that will have your back..."
"Crabbe and Goyle have always had my back!" Draco sharply interjected.
"But they will also be honest with you and tell you what you need to hear even if you don't want to." Narcissa finished as if he hadn't even interrupted her. "I'm not saying to betray the friends you have now but simply to consider what may be best for you."
That was not the first time in his life Draco had heard such similar words. He was always being told to sacrifice what he was comfortable with to instead endure what would make him, more importantly his family, look good.
Draco's mother left him with his thoughts and the memory of her saddened smile. He could never truly think back on a time when he saw his mother happy. Draco feared this was what kind of life awaited him in the future and dreaded never escaping from it.
He considered his mother's suggestions and continued writing in his journal as if to find the answers within the pages if he wrote enough.

Part 3 Dads business partner's daughter
Part 1 Part 2
Steve x oc
Tumblr media
A clattering sound had startled Steve awake early the next morning. He had tried to get out of bed but his foot had been caught in his covers and instead fell to the ground with a thud. His fall not being as hard as he had anticipated was broken by a bunch of blankets and pillows. Mia.
So it wasn't all just a dream after all. He had actually brought home a girl with powers and was on a secret  mission in Hawkins. Where was she though?
Mia, as she had expected, did not sleep very well. In fact around about four thirty in the morning she had given up altogether to start snooping around the Harrington home. She had found the washer and drier to rid her own clothes of the mud and blood that they were covered in and was now back in them having discarded the comfies Steve had leant her. She had poked her head into pretty much every room of the home and had even dipped her feet in the pool outside for a little while.
Once it began getting light she thought the only reasonable thing to do next would be to make breakfast. An area she was not very talented in.
Every pot and pan had been taken out of the cabinets and there were plates and bowls scattered over the sides. In all honesty Nina wasn't too sure what she was making. She was kind of just making it up as she went.
Steve didn't know what he was looking at. The mess was enough to send him into cardiac arrest. If his mother was here to see this he would definitely be dead.
"Hey sleepy head you want some breakfast?" Mia asked finally noticing the dumbfounded boy staring at her. She was feeling much chirpier than last night and hoped it would last.
"Mia... what is all of this."
"Breakfast, duh." She placed a plate of charcoaled bacon and undercooked eggs onto a plate and presented it to Steve with a fork in her other hand. She shoved it under his nose forcing him to take it.
Wow she really could not cook. Steve didn't think it was possible to get something so disastrously wrong. The girl before him was waiting in anticipation for his verdict. Steve also didn't want to get gravely ill. He allowed his fork to touch some of the food before pretending to shovel some into his mouth. Mia hadn't noticed his fake niceties and instead held a sense of pride thinking she had accomplished  something.
Mia grabbed a glass of orange juice and sat on the kitchen counter next to Steve.
"Thanks again for letting me stop the night." She gave him a small smile and genuine gratitude.
"Oh uh yeah no don't sweat it. me casa right?" He cheered trying to put away some of the dishes and pans that Mia had not actually used trying to make what she thought was a good breakfast. Steve knew it was the thought that counts and although it was horrid and he pretended to eat it, he was kind of touched by the gesture.
Mia could tell her was getting a bit uncomfortable by the mess she had made in the kitchen. From her place on the countertop she closed her eyes and raised her hand. She focussed her mind and heard a small yelp from Steve whilst doing so.
When a spatula came flying passed his face he whipped around to watch the contents of his kitchen floating around. It was like a scene from Mary Poppins, everything was alive and for the brief moment Nina had closed her eyes everything had managed to find its original place and was once again clean.
"I will never get used to that." He pointed to the girl as she wiped away the small blood that came from her nose. She wasn't lying when she said she hadn't used her powers since coming back to Hawkins. Since leaving she thought to fit in and go unnoticed it was best to ignore what she harboured and simply act as though everything was normal. Obviously it didn't last very long as when the nightmares began she was plagued with guilt and knew it was time to stop pretending.
"Where were you all those mornings after a crazy party the night before. You would totally kill it on clean up duty." He continued grabbing her glass of orange juice she was holding and chugging the rest before placing it in the sink. She merely rolled her eyes before hopping off the counter.
"So what's the big plan then, you can't just waltz into Hawkins lab. From the little I have managed to pick up it sounds too dangerous. So what's the plan?" He questioned her.
"The plan is... well there is no plan who am I kidding?" she scoffed and gave a lighthearted chuckle.
"No plan?"
"Nope."
He raised an eyebrow at her seriously questioning the criteria they must have had when choosing the people to grant these super powers to.
"Seriously Steve I told you I had a bad feeling and now I'm in Hawkins, did you really think I had a plan? I even lost my bag in the woods, I am literally the worst cavalry in existence." She groaned knowing everything she said was in fact true.
"Okay well I guess you're coming with me then." To say the least Steve was intrigued to see where this all went. From the little she said it did sound dangerous but nothing exciting ever happened in this boring little town so maybe he would allow it to entertain him just a little longer. Was that selfish of him?
"Where are you going?" she asked also a little shocked that he wasn't desperate to kick her out of both his house and life already.
"School obviously." he stated as if it was supposed to be obvious to Mia.
"School?" Uh oh.
"Yeah school. Come on it won't be that bad, you get to spend the day with me plus it'll give you some more time to work out this master plan of yours to save the day." He tried to reason with her. He seemed rather confident with the idea whereas Mia not so much.
✯☽☼✧❥
Steve felt a little smug that he had managed to convince her into coming to school with him. Neither of them had even thought of how they were going to explain it to anyone or how they were going to make it work. It was like since seeing what she could do and was capable of, Steve had just assumed anything was now possible.
Mia knew they were getting closer to the school by the growing amount of teens and kids she was seeing on the drive there.
"So uh who's Nancy?" Mia simply asked.
Nancy! How had he not even thought about her yet? How was he going to explain to her who this new blonde girl is and why he was giving her a ride to school? Steve no longer held the same invincible feeling he had done prior.
"Shit!" he momentarily threw his head back already running through the different scenarios in his head. None of them ended too well. "Wait how do you know about Nancy? Oh my god you can't read my thoughts can you?" In a sheer moment of panic he looked to Mia trying to put a mental block on his brain but actually had no clue what that meant or how one would go about doing so. He just hoped if he thought he didn't want anyone to read his mind then they simply would be unable to do so.
"Calm down Mr cool, whatever is going on in that pervy little brain of yours is for your thoughts only." She grimaced at his reaction, worried about what he had been thinking of. "You talk in your sleep, you know that? You also snore by the way. It was awful actually. When the incessant snoring stopped the talking began. It was like your body didn't know how to switch off and your subconscious knew I was there and had to continue your daytime shift of annoying the shit out of me." She complained as she replayed the previous nights events from her perspective.
"Long story short her name was mentioned a bit." Steve dreaded to think some of the stuff he must've said in his sleep.
"She your girlfriend or something?"
"Or something." he chose to go with as he pulled into Hawkins High School.
When they came to a stop after parking up the two pulled off their seatbelts.
"You know I'm really not too sure about this." Mia was starting to panic. Her hands were getting clammy and she had to wipe them on her jeans. Steve took note of her state. He'd figure she would be the confident type. Perhaps he was wrong. Something else had also caught his eye.
"Woah what's this, cool tat." He commented taking ahold of her hand to bring Mia's wrist closer to his face.
Upon inspection he could see the digits 009 were inked into her skin.
"What is it like a date or something?" He questioned releasing her hand to allow it to fall back into her lap.
"Not exactly."
"Totally not mysterious at all." Steve mumbled quietly knowing she heard when her face raised to meet his eyes. "Well what does it mean?"
"It's my name, it's what they called me in the lab." She stated a little too nonchalantly for Steve's liking.
"Nine? Mia they branded you? Does that mean there were at least eight others as well?" The questions began tumbling from Steve's mouth as the shock and pain he felt for the girl radiated from him. Mia didn't get the chance to explain herself however as a teenage boy had scared the two of them by slamming his hands down on the hood of the car with a mischievous look on his face.
"You should see you'r face Harrington!" He cackled. Mia noticed a girl lingering near the unknown boy with a similar smirk on her face and arms crossed.
"This is not over okay, we'll talk about this later Mia." He spoke seriously and with concern and Mia noticed as the two of them made their way out of the car.
Steve was greeting the unknown pair of teens as Mia walked around.
"Well well well, the king strikes again, what Nancy didn't put out last night?" The short boy teased Steve upon seeing Mia join his side. "And who might you be gorgeous?" Although he smiled Mia was weary, he seemed like he had a snotty personality which repulsed the girl.
"This is Mia, she's a new exchange student, her dad does business with mine so she's staying for a while." Steve rolled off his tongue casually. Mia glanced at him to check if that was really the story they were going with.
"Yeah nice to meet you both." She politely smiled hoping if these two could believe it then her day would go a little more smoother.
"Oh enchanté. The name is Tommy but you can call me yours." The boy took her hand giving it a light shake. Steve was already rolling his eyes knowing what Tommy was like.
"Quit it and leave the poor girl alone she looks like a deer in headlights." The other unknown teen hit the back of Tommy's head finally bringing herself into the conversation. "I'm Carol, I'll take you to the office and get your schedule come on." She asserted grabbing Mia's arm and pulling her away from the two boys. Mia didn't think she was ready. She turned back to Steve to see him also not looking too happy about leaving her with Carol but was unable to step in and save her as Tommy was already shaking his shoulders.
"Dude how are you always the lucky one!"
"Will you quit it, what are you talking about man?" He shook the boy who had now ruffled up his hair and he was desperately trying to fix in frustration.
"The fit blonde chick, and she's staying with you! Come on man, tell me you've made a move already!" The pair were making their way into school now gaining a few eyes on them at Tommy's loud and excitable outbursts.
"Who Mia? No way man she's my dads business partners daughter that is no go territory, besides we're just friends its not like that." He shook off the notion, a little shocked Tommy would suggest such a thing.
"Hey man I'm not accusing you of anything no need to be so defensive." The shorter boy held up his hands in mock surrender. "But I will say you have a type."
"A type? I do not have a type!"
"Yeah you do she seems just as sweet and sickening as Wheeler."
"Mia and Nancy are nothing alike okay now would you just drop it." The reality of that statement was one Tommy would never actually comprehend.
✯☽☼✧❥
Carol had abandoned Mia not long after entering school. Stupid bitch. Mia now had to somehow find the office to try and do the hard bit. She was sure she could put on a fake smile to the receptionist, be polite and pull a few strings with her mind, in the literal sense of course, to get herself a schedule and enrol herself into school.
The poor girl was wandering aimlessly and having not much hope. Most students were glancing at her not recognising her face. It's not often Hawkins gets new students so this was quite exciting for them. Giving up on her own abilities Mia approached a girl stood at her locker taking a flute out.
"Hey uh sorry to bother you, I was just wondering if you could point me in the direction of the main office?" Mia asked.
The girl she had approached had short cut hair and was slightly taller than herself. She smiled a little surprised by the voice that had startled her but nodded nonetheless.
"Yeah no problem, I'm going by that way anyways let me show you." She slammed her locker shut and hiked her backpack over her shoulder.
"Thanks I really appreciate it. Steve left me with this Carol bitch who just took off, don't think she likes me very much." Mia rambled slightly trying to break the ice and avoid any awkward silences.
"Steve? As in Steve Harrington?"
"Yeah you know him?" Mia didn't like the look on the girls face.
"Uh yeah! Like everyone else in this whole town. He's like the most popular guy in school." She explained to Mia.
"oh." was all she found herself muttering. Mia was regretting everything. She thought Steve was suggesting going to school so she could lay low and take some time to work out what she was going to do in Hawkins. Finding out he is in fact incredibly well known and popular was not the kind of subtlety she was looking for.
"Oh but don't worry about Carol she doesn't like most people and she is a major bitch." The girl tried to comfort her thinking she was probably just nervous about being in a new school. If only she knew it was actually the first time she had ever been in any school. She gave a small giggle to the girls comment as the two of them walked down the halls side by side.
"I'm Mia by the way." She introduced.
"Robin, nice to meet you. And here is the main office. Do you need me to wait with you?" The two of them came to a stop at a desk.
"That's okay I should probably find Steve anyways." Mia thanked Robin and watched her turn to leave with her flute in one hand and giving her a little wave over her shoulder with the other.
✯☽☼✧❥
"I don't know, I think you've studied enough, Nance." Steve intercepted Nancy and Barbs path grabbing her flash cards and shaking his head slightly with a teasing tone.
"Steve..." She tried to take them back but he pulled to the side slightly using his height to his advantage.
"I'm telling you, you know, you got this. Don't worry. Now, on to more important matters." He handed them back after a moment as Tommy and Carol had also came to join their sides. "My dad has left town on a conference and my mom's gone with him, cause, you know, she doesn't trust him."
"Good call." Tommy laughed earning another hit on the back of the head by Carol.
"So are you in?"
"In for what?" Nancy and Barb both glanced at each other unsure of what Steve was insinuating. They looked so innocent.
"No parents? Big house?"
"A party?" Nancy sounded a bit more shocked than she hoped to, knowing she wanted to make a good impression on Steve and not come across too much of a prude.
"Ding, ding, ding!" Carol chimed.
"It's Tuesday." Nancy was still trying to piece it together, failing miserably.
"It's Tuesday! Oh, my God." Mocked Tommy whilst trying to keep it together.
"Come on. It'll be low key. It'll just be us. What do you say? Are you in or are you out?" Steve tried to persuade her. That was interrupted by the short blonde he couldn't believe he had actually let slip his mind that had came bouncing over to the little group.
She held a piece of paper in both hands which looked like a schedule in front of her. She held it as if it were a trophy along with a smug look. She extended her hands out to waft the paper in Steve's face once close enough.
"Look what I got." she announced in a singsong tone. "Bet you didn't think I could either." Mia in her head knew exactly what she was referring to after having to use her powers to create and forge records on the schools computer whilst at reception. She prided herself in doing so as she had to be incredibly discrete when speaking to the receptionist she learned to be called Mrs. Lawrence.
"No thanks to you of course, hi again Meryl." Mia shot a fake smile to Carol who had left her high and dry earlier.
"It's Carol."
"Whatever."
"I don't think we've met..." Nancy wondered aloud looking to the new girl who had joined them and already had shown her distaste towards Carol.
"oh right right. Mia this is Nancy, Nancy this is Mia. Her dad and my dad work together and she's staying with us for a while." Steve explained hoping the smart girl would believe his lie and not see straight through him. He didn't think he would be lying to Nancy so early on in their relationship but wanted to make sure she also didn't get the wrong idea like Tommy had done before.
"Ahh so you're Nancy, nice to put a face to the name. I have heard a lot about you. Steve here talks about you all the time." Mia patted the taller boy on the arm, already thinking of all the different directions he could take this to get under his skin. Steve froze.  Mia was slyly smirking and Steve was fearful of that.
Nancy was unsure of what to make of the situation. She looked over Mia and couldn't help but notice just how pretty she was. There was no makeup or short skirt. She was just effortlessly pretty. And she was spending time with Steve. That made her slightly nervous.
"Oh, God. Look."
"Oh, God, that's depressing."
"Should we say something?"
"I don't think he speaks."
"How much you want to bet he killed him?"
"Shut up." Steve gave Tommy a shove at his comment.
Mia followed the direction the group were looking in to see a boy around their age further down the hall hanging up missing person posters. Mia's bad feeling was resurfacing as she also watched on. She gulped slightly feeling her palms becoming clammy again. Her head was becoming foggy and she started to become overwhelmed. Nobody had taken any notice though as she had took the opportunity to take her leave. She would be sure to ask Steve about the missing person later as that was the best lead she had so far but right now she thought finding her first class would rewire her brain and momentarily distract her.
Mia needed to preoccupy her mind, if she got too spooked by the bad feeling she had she didn't know how she would react and in front of so many people she didn't want to take any chances.

Part 2 Mr Cool
Steve x oc
part 1
Tumblr media
"Let me get this straight. You were some lab rat and have had these powers for as long as you can remember, you managed to escape and now after all this time you're back because you have a 'bad feeling'." Steve was no longer shouting. Instead he just seemed confused and Mia could understand how that felt.
"I mean that is all grossly simplified but yeah pretty much." Mia responded trying to pull her wet jacket off her whilst under the restraints of her seatbelt.
"okay so um this bad feeling you had, that's why you were in the woods?"
"You know I think you've maybe had enough so I'm gonna pop that question in the classified pile." Mia knew opening up the can of worms that was monsters was too much in one night for Steve.
"Classified yeah okay whatever I don't believe any of this." he grumbled his focus still on the road. The rain was getting lighter now but it was still quite dark out.
"You don't have to." she stated matter of factly.
"what?"
'I said you don't have to. I just needed a getaway car so thank you for that. And anyways even if you go to the police or tell your friends or whoever it's not like they're going to believe you. Even I know how crazy this all sounds." She chuckled to herself as she played out in her head what it would be like for Steve trying to explain all this to the police.
"Yep okay you are totally crazy." he confirmed to himself.
"Whatever could you just drop me off somewhere central in town, I need to find a hotel for the night." She was done with his comments and crossed her arms already regretting her actions leading her into this situation.
Steve glanced at Mia. She was about his age. She wore a pair of jeans and a white tee, her jacket now strewn across the backseats of his car. Her hair was flat and dripping and along with being covered in mud she also had blood all over half her face.
"I cant believe I'm about to say this." Steve muttered to himself looking up to the sky hoping that if god was real he would protect him in the future from anything that may occur as a direct result of what he was about to say.
"Look it's the middle of the night and you're not going to get anywhere to stay at this time looking like that. I'll take you back to my place but..." He was cut off. He was beginning to realise this was a bit of a pattern.
"no way."
"no way? What do you mean no way I thought you needed somewhere to crash."
"I do but I'm not going back to yours I don't know you. How do I know you don't drive around at night trying to pick people up to take them back to your lair."
"Lair? what is this the Texas Chainsaw Massacre?"
"Oh my god the fact you even thought of that confirms you were thinking of it." Mia shot at him accusingly.
"That doesn't even make any sense. Besides you have literal super powers. If anything I am still scared that you are going to kill me."
"Fine okay let's make a deal, I crash at yours tonight, I don't kill you, you don't kill me and I'll keep my mouth shut about the fact that you either need your eyes checked or your licence taken off you." Mia didn't have any other leverage on the boy and knew she would need something to try and keep him quiet. She came back to Hawkins for a reason and would be screwed if Steve was the reason she failed within her first few moments here.
Steve contemplated it for a second and nodded his head with a tight lipped smile mumbling a few okays. He tapped the steering wheel to a random beat in his anxious state. He was still up a height over everything he had just witnessed but a small part of him knew he would feel guilt and regret if he was just to leave the girl on the side of the road not to see her again. She has literal super powers. You only see that shit in the movies!
A few minutes of awkward silence passed between the two. Mia pretended to take interest in the scenery out of her window. Steve kept glancing at her then back to the road still with so many questions on his mind.
"You're right though." he tried to start. She gave him a quizzical look. "Apart from your hero and or villain origin story we don't actually know anything about each other." Steve's eyes  were wide as he spoke, Mia noticed, clearly still spooked. Maybe small talk was what they needed.
"How about we play a game. We each get to ask the other a question and the other has to answer it, yeah?" He suggested.
"That's not a game that's just us having a conversation. What's your idea of fun if those are the kind of games you're playing?" Mia knew he was digging and did not want to put herself in a position where she was showing all her cards too early. She was taught from an early age not to trust people.
"Look I'll go first okay, um okay let's see um." Steve rattled his brain. There was so much on the tip of his tongue that he actually needed a moment to organise all the mess. "Favourite ice cream flavour go!" He managed to force out and was actually a little proud of himself for doing so.
"Ice-cream flavour?" she really didn't know why he had asked that. She couldn't understand why of all things that would be the first thing he would want to know in this so called game of his.
"Don't think! Just say that's the whole point go on." He was frantically nodding his head in encouragement. God this boy was like a golden retriever.
"Okay well I think that uh..."
"I said not to think!" he caught her off guard. She began fumbling her words and he kept pressing for an answer.
"Ice cream flavour go!"
"Maybe..."
"Just go! On instinct what's the first thing that pops to your head."
"I don't know oh my goodness let me just..."
"Hey do I need to go over the rules again look I'll go first." There was no anger between the two despite the heightened voices. Granted they were both shouting but more like a couple of younger kids who are overly excited and are about to be scolded by an adult nearby.
"Chocolate!" Steve yelled.
"Chocolate?"
"Woah what's wrong with chocolate?"
"Nothing nothing I just didn't peg you for the kind to sit and indulge in chocolate ice cream." She shrugged.
"I do not indulge in chocolate ice cream okay? You say it as if every night I sneak downstairs to steal a tub of ice cream then hide the remains so nobody suspects anything. It's ice cream! Everyone loves ice cream." Steve tried to defend himself but once he had finished his little rant continued to glance between the girl and the road catching a growing smile on he face.
"What? What are you smiling at?" He questioned. She began laughing now. Not for the first time since seeing this girl he was confused.
"You totally do sneak ice cream!" She managed to tease between her giggles.
At this point Steve could only roll his eyes. Getting something out of this girl was like trying to draw blood from a stone. It was impossible.
"Excuse me for trying to get to know the stranger I have in my car."
"And you thought the best place to start would be with my favourite flavour of ice cream?"
"You can tell a lot from a person by what they choose."
"Evidently." she stated given all she had learned about Steve from his answer. "But I guess I would have to say chocolate too, now that you've made such a song and dance about it."
Steve let out a breathy laugh in response. This random girl in a matter of minutes knew how to get under his skin. He thought she was crazy but maybe he was a little mad himself for going along with it all. At least that's what he was telling himself.
"Home sweet home." Steve announced as he pulled the car into the drive. Nothing but the few street lamps lit the way. The rain seemed to have gotten lighter for the meantime but Steve had remembered the news that morning predicting a bad storm throughout the night.
The two teens hopped out of the car and made their way into the home, Steve leading the way. Mia took note at the size of the house when she first entered. It was spacious and clean and photos and pictures littered the odd empty space.
Steve shook off his jacket to hang it up and noticed Mia must have left hers on the backseat of his car as she stood there shivering before him.
"Nice place, nobody else is here right?" She seemed worried he noted. From what she had explained to him in the car about being held captive as a child he assumed she didn't take too well to strangers. That and the events that occurred on their short drive home.
"Yeah no, parents are on a business trip so as far as the eye can see is all King Steve's" He dropped his keys onto the side and lead her into the kitchen. He opened the fridge and took out a couple cans of coke, passing one to Mia.
She refused to touch it. Her eyes locked on the can and Steve noticed. Blinking and clearing her throat she pulled back choosing to ignore the gesture altogether.
"Can I use your bathroom?" She timidly asked. This girl didn't seem like the same girl that was in his car. She had recoiled and looked like a claustrophobic person  who had just got trapped in a broken down elevator.
"Yeah, yeah sure right this way." He spoke softly leading the girl upstairs. "Theres towels on the top shelf for you to take a shower and I'll leave you a change of clothes outside of the door for when you're done." He brought her into the bathroom.
He went to walk out but paused at the door when she called his name.
"Steve..." she gulped. "Thank you, by the way." She felt vulnerable and exposed despite being fully clothed and having not actually told him too much about herself. But she had. He knew she had powers and didn't belong anywhere other than a government facility as far as she was concerned. She just needed a place to stay and warm up. Steve was the best she was going to get, she didn't need anything more than that.
"Yeah of course." he blinked still speaking in his same soft tone. "Uh theres uh stuff in the cabinet if you need a bandaid of anything." He motioned above the sink where they were kept for the cuts she had gained due to her time in the woods. The full extent of what happened he was still in the dark about.
He gave her one last look before pulling the door behind him shut. He went into his room to grab Mia a change of clothes. One of his old crewneck sweaters and sweatpants would do. He also took out a pair of socks and laid the folded pile of clothes outside the bathroom door where he could hear the shower turning off. Whilst she was finishing up he went to grab some spare blankets and pillows.
Mia was just drying the ends of her hair when she actually had a moment to see the gash on her head. How could such a small cut bleed so much. She wiped the mirror above the sink free from the condensation and closed her eyes tight. Something she had grown to learn from an early age was that she didn't always need first aid kits. Smaller cuts were simple. Focusing her energy she pictured her face in her mind and saw herself without it. When she opened her eyes the cut was gone.
"Good as new." She smiled. Pulling on the clothes Steve had left her she had to roll the waistband over a couple of times so she wasn't tripping over them. She folded the towel she used and left it on the side not knowing where the boy kept his laundry.
Opening the door she came back out into the hallway and was not too sure which of the rooms Steve was in at first. She saw a light coming from the end of the hall and followed it assuming she would find him there. She was right. As she stood in the doorway she saw him making a bed on the floor out of numerous pillows and blankets. It all looked quite excessive actually. His back was to her and he hadn't realised she was there yet. She took a moment to glance around his room.
"What's a blondie?" She questioned whilst startling the boy. When he turned to the voice he found her standing on his bed pointing to one of the posters on his wall. He thought she was joking. He thought she was trying to lead him into some sort of trick to try and embarrass him.
"Yeah right." He grabbed her arm pulling her down from the bed and crossed his arms. Mia stood waiting for him to expand. "Wait you're serious?"he asked judging by her confused face it did not look like Mia had any idea who Blondie were.
"Okay I'm gonna put it down to the fact that you most likely have a lot of other stuff on your plate rather than the fact that you are just plain ignorant but they're a band." he tried to explain assuming there was probably lots of music she didn't know about.
She gave him a look to show she was slightly unimpressed.
"Right well, I grabbed you some blankets and made you a little bed, or if you'd prefer there is the couch you could always..." He changed the subject.
"No this is fine yeah thanks." The two of them both awkwardly stood nodding slightly.
"Okay no I cant do it. I cant do it." Steve broke first raising his voice. Mia could only roll her eyes and sat herself onto Steve's bed. She crossed her legs and watched as he paced in front of her.
"You just get in my car in the middle of the night after running into the road and do this weird witchy woo voodoo shit then suddenly you're sleeping in my room tonight."
Mia started picking at her nails zoning out of the rambling ahead of her.
"And don't think I didn't notice you have magically healed. What the fuck is going on I need some serious answers if you're staying in my bedroom." He ranted slightly out of breath and coming to a stop in front of the girl.
"Why, do all girls need to have an interview before sleeping in your room?"
"God dammit!" He knew it was useless but he was so frustrated nonetheless. His hands made fists at his sides as he threw them around above his head seemingly trying to shake out the frustrations. Mia could honestly not believe the fact that this boy was breaking down in front of her and she was the cause. The thought made her giggle slightly to herself.
"Would you sit down already your pacing is hurting my magically healed head." She grabbed his raised hand and forced him to sit opposite her on his bed and also cross his legs.
"Thank you, I"m cool, okay I'm good."
"Sure looks it Mr cool." she referred to his weird outbreak but he decided to ignore the jab. "Since you have made me a bed and have given me some clothes I think it is only fair that I give you three questions." She felt sick as she spoke. Mia really was not a people person but thought she would get a better nights sleep if Steve could also maybe sleep.
Steve was surprised at that. A little part of him couldn't help but think it was a trick though. She was probably going to let him ask all his questions and then refuse to answer anyways.
"You mean it?" he cautiously asked making eye contact.
"I do, ask away." She felt obligated to open up somehow no matter how much she was reluctant to do so.
"What exactly is it that you can do? These powers you have?" she had predicted that would be one of the questions.
Mia thought it would be better to show Steve rather than tell him. Steve watched her close her eyes tight and take in a deep breath. The light above him flickered and the radio alarm clock he had began tuning frequencies until the sound of a local station came through. His bedroom door slammed shut and his bedroom curtains shot open. Steve made his way to his window in awe at the streetlights one by one going out like it was a synchronised light show.
"Woah..." he mumbled turning back to Mia. When she opened her eyes all the lights returned to normal and his radio shut off. She wiped the small blood that had started dripping from her nose. "So um that was cool." he stated actually impressed by what he had just seen.
"Cool was probably the last thing I thought you were gonna say." She muttered more to herself.
Steve with a burst of energy now jumped back onto his bed where he was sitting before, ready for his next question.
"How long have you had these powers?" he wondered still astonished at what he witnessed from her.
"For as long as I can remember really. I escaped the lab a few years ago and to be honest haven't used them since meeting you. I was always scared something bad would happen like I would lose control and they would find me." As she spoke Mia had wrapped her arms herself and looked down as she spoke as if she was ashamed. Her voice was soft and meek like a hurt mouse.
"They would find you, what the people from the lab? When you say escape, do you mean you were trapped there because of what you can do, did they hurt you?"
"They were bad men Steve and I saw my chance and took it. Leaving the others behind." Mia had a solemn look on her face as she spoke still holding herself tight.
"Mia, if you ran away why are you back?" Steve thought back to finding her running from the woods of all places, the more he was finding out in drips and drabs the more it didn't make sense and the more questions he had.
"I told you I had a bad feeling. Something about this town, about that lab..." She didn't know how to explain it to him so he could understand. She looked up to see his eyes transfixed on her urging her to go on. "I've always felt so guilty for leaving and now felt like the right time to do the right thing."
"Well that's not vague at all!" he exclaimed.
"I think that's your three questions Harrington Steve Harrington. Now if you do not mind I shall be going to sleep now." Mia didn't want to go any further. She knew he was probably even more antsy now to interrogate her but she couldn't let herself. Steve seemed nice enough and didn't want to drag him into any sort of mess she knew she was going to cause.
She pulled back one of the blankets that Steve had put on the floor for her and lowered herself down. Steve sighed and found himself following suit in his own bed.
As the two of them lay in the room the storm outside continued to grow worse and yet it felt so quiet to Mia. She closed her eyes in hopes of trying to sleep. She knew it was futile as if she did try to sleep it would just allow the nightmares of the monster she had been seeing for weeks to take over her head again.
Disturbing the silence Steve began hitting his pillow trying to fluff it up. Then he began shuffling his covers so it was sitting right over his body. When he started turning in his bed to find the comfiest position that was when Mia had enough and decided nightmares in her head were better than whatever the fuck she was currently experiencing. Steve wouldn't settle and she knew she was right in liking him to a golden retriever earlier.
"I just find it weird how that cut on your head..." He finally broke the silence
"Dear Lord help me find strength not to murder this boy!" She yelled into her pillow rolling onto her stomach.
"Hey we made a deal not to do that!" He shot upright pointing an accusatory finger in Mia's direction.

Part 1: Ghost Car
Steve x oc
Tumblr media
"Don't be scared." She mumbled repeatedly to herself. She was still trying to convince herself not to turn back and leave Hawkins. Those thoughts were paused when she heard a noise behind her. As quickly a she had heard it she had spun on her heel to try and see what it was.
"It's just your imagination there's nothing there." She mumbled the lie to herself. Again the same rustling noise came but this time ahead of her.
Spinning back to face it she saw what had been living in her nightmares. It was scrambling towards her. Petrified she still couldn't bring herself to move. The monster weaved in and out of the trees and was getting closer and closer.
"Fuck this!" Not knowing what else she could do, she pulled her bag off her shoulder and threw it as hard as she could in the creature's direction. Obviously it didn't even go as far as to block its path but she didn't know that as she had already taken off, sprinting her way through the woods the opposite way.
The further she went the more sluggish she became. Her steps became heavier but the adrenaline was pushing her on. She was drenched from the rain, covered in mud and could feel the blood on her forehead seeping. Knowing it was futile to try outrun the monster she ducked beneath a fallen tree to try and hide.
Desperately she tried to steady her breathing. Struggling to do so she frustratedly clamped a shaky hand over her mouth to cease the noise. That's when she realised she no longer had eyes on the thing that was chasing her. From fear that anything she could do would make noise it was only her eyes that made any movement trying to locate the monster.
She wasn't out of the woods yet. She sunk further into the tree she chose to shelter behind and in doing so decided to finally lower her hand from covering her mouth. Trying to stabilise her crouching position her hand fell back and hit the ground hard.
"Oh you piece of ...!" she inadvertently yelped from the pain of falling for the second time now. This elicited the screech of the monster which she still couldn't see but could hear was close.
Again she took off as quick as she could still unaware of where she was going and just hoping to get as far away as possible.
"Just keep running, you're good at that..." She ran straight through some branches causing water that had collected on their leaves to smack her in the face. "...for the most part at least."
✯☽☼✧❥
"Thanks for helping me study I guess." Nancy was collecting all the flash cards that had been scattered over her bed. She couldn't help the grin that spread on her face when she looked to the boy opposite her.
Steve was holding her teddy bear and his hair was all flopped to the side from his position on the bed. He was also smiling but a little disheartened when thinking about what they could have been doing instead of studying. Nancy was not that type of girl though. And he did not want to blow it with her. Nancy was different to most girls.
"Anytime, you know if you ever need more help studying, I am great for moral support." Steve winked at Nancy and could see the small blush escape from her. Let's be honest he wasn't top of his classes and Steve wasn't known for his grades. If anything it was his hair and keg stands.
Giving a sigh he pulled himself from her bed and through his jacket back on as he could see the rain growing heavier outside. They both made their way back to Nancy's bedroom window.
"I'll be sure not to come to you if it's studying I need help with, believe me."
"Nancy, you've got nothing to worry about you're gonna ace this test. And when you do I'll be like 'I told you so' and you'll be like 'I should've never doubted you' and I'll be like..." he acted out before Nancy and she couldn't help but giggle at his goofiness. She quickly cut him off however by reaching up and kissing a quick peck to his lips. That definitely stopped him in his place the two pulling away again with similar grins.
"If that's my reward then I always want to be the only person you study with." He muttered to her. That same blush returned to Nancy. God why was she acting this way. One comment from him and she was swooning. "Does Barb get this kind of treatment?" he followed up with a sly smile gracing his features.
She playfully shoved him whilst Steve found himself chuckling to his own words knowing she found it funny too.
"I believe you were leaving?" She sassed opening the window for him.
"Oh don't be like that." he embraced the girl giving her a final kiss goodnight and began climbing back out the window. Nancy leant against the frame as Steve had paused before dropping fully down.
"To be continued?" he asked her.
"I'll see you tomorrow at school, goodnight Steve and thanks again for coming over."
"Like I said, anytime Nance." Steve dropped down and luckily didn't make a fool of himself in front of Nancy by falling flat on his face because of how muddy it was. He glanced back up to where he came from and sent a quick wink to the girl in the window before dashing through the rain to his car he parked further down the street.
Fumbling with his keys he managed to unlock the car and quickly slide into the drivers seat. He took his hand and ran it through his wet hair to get it out of his eyes and started the ignition. The rain was so heavy now he could hardly see where he was driving. Instead Steve drove off knowing the quicker he got to bed that night the quicker he could get to school and see Nancy the next day.
"What is this girl doing to me?" He thought aloud. When has King Steve ever been excited to go to school. That was not in his character. Sure he had his popularity but he still hated classes about boring stuff that never stayed in his head anyways. It was all bullshit. Nancy was starting to make that bullshit a little bit easier though. He really did like her.
It was all a bit overwhelming to sit and think about so instead to drown out the thoughts Steve turned up the radio as he drove into the night, his wipers and headlights on full.
"I saved her life, she nearly drowned. He showed off, splashing around!" He belted out the lyrics feeling like he was on a high coming home from Nancy's. As he was doing so he caught a quick glimpse of himself in the rear view mirror and could see his hair was a mess. He ran his fingers through and returned his eyes to the road.
A moment longer and it would've ended badly. As he focussed back on the road a figure had emerged from the tree line and darted into the middle of the road. Steve didn't even process his foot slamming the brakes but he did and as the car began skidding to an abrupt stop he braced for impact.
"Oh my god oh my god oh my god!" he began shouting. Steve swung his door open and tried to clamber out of the car until he realised he hadn't taken his seat belt off yet. It was like his seatbelt was fighting against him. Once he managed to unbuckle the passenger side door opened and a figure had thrown themselves into the car with him.
"Don't kill me man oh my god oh my god please don't hurt me!" Steve screamed his mind not able to comprehend anything and slightly surprised he could even string words together in his state of panic.
"Kill you?! You tried to kill me first with your car." The figure had now removed their hood to reveal a girl. She looked pretty beaten up and soaked from the rain. She had a cut on her forehead and blood smeared down the side of her face from what Steve could make out.
"You ran out into the road, in case you didn't know, that is exactly where cars belong. Not crazy people."
"Hey pull your shit together I've had a long ass day and you screaming at me is not helping right now we need to get out of here. Drive!"
"I don't even know who you are I am not taking you anywhere and for the record..."
"Dude I am not arguing with you right now you need to get us out of here!" She abruptly cut him off knowing the monster was right behind her so could emerge from the woods any second now.
"Listen here you are in my car I don't need to listen to you."
"You almost killed me the least you could do is give me a ride!"
"I'm not sure I'm obligated to give you a ride, in fact if anything..." her eyes focused behind the boys head and could see branches parting towards their direction. It was coming. She had enough of this boy arguing with her.
"Oh sweet Lord, that's it!" She held out her hand in mid air and closed her eyes.
The driver door slammed shut and Steve's seatbelt pulled over his chest and buckled him in. The gas peddle hit the floor and the car took off abruptly. On instinct Steve grabbed the wheel to steer the car over to the correct side of the road. That was until he had a second to comprehend what had just happened.
He screamed.
"Ahhh ghost car! What is going on?!"
"Would you relax and keep your eyes on the road you don't want to nearly hit any more people." The girl in the passenger seat said a bit calmer now. The more distance she gained from that thing the better she was starting to feel. However now she had a completely new problem.
"You did that didn't you. How did you do that? That thing with the seat belt and the... Are you going to kill me?! Hey listen okay I'm a good guy I promise okay. Well thats not entirely true my grades are below average and I have been known to smoke marijuana from time to time but it's from the earth that cant hurt you. It's mother nature, like broccoli, at least that's what I tell my dad. Who am I kidding I'm a total man whore..."
By now the girl had zoned out. She didn't have much experience with people reacting to her powers so was unsure if this was normal behaviour. She allowed the boy to ramble on as she began fiddling with the radio, still as the pair of them drove rather quickly through Hawkins.
Finding the volume she thought it may be best to just ignore the frantic boy next to her.
"Tell me more, tell me more could she get me a friend?" When she found the right frequency she lent back in her seat.
"Hey hey will you leave that alone? Are you going to answer me? Hello?!" Steve turned Grease down and was just baffled that none of his questions were getting answered.
The two of them looked to each other. Steve's eyes kept glancing back to the road in fear someone else would actually run out on him again, and hers fixed on his face clearly bored.
"Well?!" He yelled a final time growing frustrated.
"Are you done?" was all she asked.
"Am I... am I done?! Please for the love of god start talking I am freaking out right now and for all I know you could be a killer on the loose from some mental house!" he retaliated. Steve could not understand why this girl was so calm right now. Mentally he began replaying the last few minutes in his head to try and work out if somehow he was in fact hallucinating.
"Now are you done?" again came her calm tone. She was growing frustrated herself though.
"Yeah." he muttered slightly embarrassed by his outburst.
"What's your name?" The girl asked thinking it would be the best place to start. In all honestly she didn't blame him for his reaction but she didn't know him either and him seeing what she could do now put her at risk.
"Harrington, Steve Harrington." He responded slightly dumbfounded. "You?" he apprehensively  asked unsure if he would get any answers from the strange girl.
"Well Harrington Steve Harrington it's a pleasure to meet you my name is Mia." She tried her best to smile to him trying to make him more comfortable in light of everything.
"Mia?... Mia what?"
"Just Mia, now I know you're freaking out right now but I can explain everything, you just have to trust me." She quickly changed the subject and again trying to navigate herself through the conversation.
"Please do!" he raised his voice again.
"Oh my god you're impossible. "

B.B The 100
Just a little excerpt from a potentially larger fic??
Stomping her way back to camp like a child, Amara was yet to stop crying. Very rarely did she get upset, usually she would do one of two things. Either lock herself away until the problem went away or try and use sarcasm as a form of defence. At the moment neither of those options were going to work for her.
Since leaving The Ark she didn't recognise herself anymore. She was always crying, arguing with people or trying not to die. Everything felt hopeless.
Every now and then she would kick a stone or purposefully stamp on a stick to try and take her anger out. In reality she wanted to hit something.
"Stupid Clarke." She mumbled between her tears. "Doesn't know what she's talking about."
Her thoughts were scattered and her breaths were erratic. She stopped. She took a second to look up to the sky. She thought about the people on The Ark. She was down here so they could follow. It was everything her grandmother had ever hoped for. She touched the wristband she was still wearing and for a moment was grateful she still had it on.
A noise in the near distance broke her from her thoughts. It sounded like a horn. Panic set in her blood. Immediately she thought grounders. That's when she took of sprinting through the woods. She didn't know if she was running away from something or towards it but her instincts told her to move and move fast.
Her legs began to burn as she ran as fast as she could, pushing her body as much as she could.
A flash of blonde hair crossing her path caused her to skid to a sudden stop almost falling in the dirt.
"Amara!" Charlotte shrieked.
"Charlotte?!" Amara was unsure why the girl was all the way out here.
"Move now! Go, Go!" Bellamy's booming voice came from behind the girl. He was also running. He grabbed a hold of the two girls and began dragging them in tow. The horn sounded again in the distance.
"There's some caves this way." Bellamy called back to the others as they all began to become separated.
In a moment of stupidity, Amara glanced back to try and get a look at what they were running from.
Clouds of yellow fog were following them and moving quickly. Amara watched as it engulfed Atom who was a little ways behind them. He yelled out in obvious pain and fell to the ground.
"Atom!" Amara tried to turn.
"Amara, Bellamy!" He cried to the two.
"We can't! Amara!" Bellamy had lifted the girl from her feet and forced her into one of the caves Charlotte had raced into as shelter from the deadly fog.
"Oh my god, Atom." She breathed in disbelief.
"Get back from the entrance." Bellamy pulled her back to try and keep her from being burned. She looked up to him and nodded slowly. Bellamy took in her dishevelled state. Her eyes were red and her face was puffy.
"Amara!" Charlotte barrelled into the girls' side and wrapped her arms around the taller girl.
Amara took Charlotte's face in her hands and began to fuss over her inspecting her of any injuries.
"What the hell was that? Did it touch you, are you okay?" Amara spoke hurriedly and as softly as possible but was terrified and both Bellamy and Charlotte could tell.
"We might be here a while, we should settle down." Bellamy placed a hand on Amara's shoulder to try and help Charlotte from Amara's pestering. The girls followed suit and made their way a little further from the mouth of the cave. Amara removed her jacket and wrapped it around Charlotte who lay down on the ground. The remaining two sat opposite each other with their backs leant against the cave walls.
"What was she doing out here?" Amara questioned Bellamy after some time had passed.
He knew she was only concerned for the young girl but to him it felt gut wrenching to think Amara was somewhat judging his decision to allow the young girl to join the hunting party.
"She was struggling having to listen to Jasper." Bellamy told her honestly. Amara just nodded. For whatever reason, Amara had become protective over the girl and almost felt responsible for her.
"What are you doing out here? Alone for that matter, I thought I told you that the grounders..."
"I got into it with Clarke and was trying to get back to camp." She felt silly now about the whole ordeal as she thought back. Oh god, she hoped they were safe and that she could see them again to apologise for her little temper tantrum she pulled.  "Didn't really fancy staying with them longer than I had to." She confessed.
Bellamy nodded to her showing she didn't need to explain if she didn't want to.
Shortly the heaviness of todays events caught up to Amara and she was falling asleep as much as she tried to fight it.
"No!"
Amara's eyes shot open to the sound of a scream. She pushed herself from the ground and frantically looked for the source that awoke her.
Bellamy was already by Charlotte's side by the time she had time to comprehend where she was.
"Does it happen often?" Bellamy's voice was soft and unlike anything Amara had experienced first hand from him thus far. Charlotte had a nightmare, and from her screams it seemed distressing. "What are you scared of? You know what? It doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what you do about it." He told the girl who was already starting to calm down.
"But... I'm asleep." Charlotte's voice was fragile.  "Fears are fears. Slay your demons when you're awake, they won't be there to get you when you sleep." Amara watched the Blake boy closely admiring his compassionate side. She could see now that it seemed like he was speaking from experience.  "Yeah, but... How?" "You can't afford to be weak. Down here, weakness is death, fear is death. Let me see that knife I gave you." Bellamy wrapped his hands around Charlotte's who held the knife.  "Now, when you feel afraid, you hold tight to that knife and you say, 'screw you. I'm not afraid.'" He told her pointing to the knife she now held.  "Screw you. I'm not afraid." Bellamy looked to the girl as if she could do better. She repeated the phrase this time a little more convincingly.  "Slay your demons, kid. Then you'll be able to sleep." Charlotte lay back down, most likely feeling much more empowered and a bit more relaxed to go back to sleep.  Bellamy returned to sitting across from Amara who was now fully awake watching him intently which he didn't miss.  "That was sweet." She told him truthfully.  He looked back to the younger girl who seemed to have dozed back off.  "Octavia is lucky to have you, Bellamy." He looked into her eyes. It was something his mother would always tell him. He was told Octavia was his sister, his responsibility and that nothing would ever change that.  "I didn't realise until you said something similar to Charlotte just now, but I remember." She spoke watching his eyes bore into her own. "You were the only person that spoke to me that day." Amara referred to the first time they met on The Ark when he was the janitor that found her crying at the window. "My mom, she had been sick for some time. For as long as I could remember actually. I knew it was coming that's why I was upset. She died that night." Amara opened up to him watching as he swallowed her words taking each one of them in, listening to each syllable that fell from her lips. "Nobody would look at me let alone say anything, it was suffocating."
"I didn't know that was why you..." He slightly shook his head confessing to the girl.
"I'm not the best at all of this, it seems like every day Earth just really wants to put me through it, but you seem to be thriving. Earth suits you." She smiled to him honestly.
"Thriving? I'm barely surviving." He choked a small laugh. "Between Octavia, trying to maintain order and avoid grounders I feel like there's not enough of me to go around."
"You're doing good." She smiled to him tiredly.
"Don't go all soft on me now sweetheart, it was only yesterday you tried to kill me with a tree branch." Bellamy tried to lift the conversation knowing neither of them wanted to continue down the path they were going. At least not tonight in this cave.
"Relax you don't have a freckle out of place." She retorted as she lay back down on her side facing away from Bellamy. A few moments passed before she felt a jacket be draped over her bare arms. Bellamy lay his jacket over the shivering girl who had selflessly gave hers up for Charlotte.
The two fell into a comfortable silence before Amara spoke up a final time with one last thought.
"On a real note though." She began. "Would you rather be itchy for the rest of your life or sticky for the rest of your life."
Like music to her ears, Bellamy laughed. He wholeheartedly laughed for the first time in a long time. He didn't need to answer Amara was happy enough with that as his response and was able to fall back asleep shortly after.
