it sucks being a lib in the south. if you express any kind of alternate opinion to traditional MAGA beliefs, you're expected to present a friggin powerpoint explanation of everything you think and why. You're put under an immediate spotlight right then and there, and all eyes turn to you with glares of hatred. Whereas if you vomit out some trash you heard on News Max, everyone takes it at face value.

I don't know about you, but I'm not good at explaining why I think things. I sort of shut down and forget everything if someone asks me to elaborate. As such, everyone in my family thinks I'm a gullible idiot who went away to art school and "came back a lib."

I admit I used to fall for the right wing propaganda as a kid because it was literally all I had ever known, but my world view was slowly shattered throughout grade school, when I finally had access to people who helped me see the other side of things (i.e. they didn't kiss the ground George Bush walked on and didn't wish death on Obama).

It wasn't until I went away to art school that I was actually brave enough to admit that I had changed, but it sucks having your entire family think "you're not as good as you used to be" just because the "you" they used to know was a scared, intimidated kid who tried desperately to fit in in any way possible, even if that meant nodding along to things that you had a bad gut feeling about.

What I learned from it all is this: just because someone is good at arguing doesn't mean they're right, it just means they've had more practice. And that's nothing to be proud of.

stories from the wrap shop pt. 2

while working at the vinyl wrap shop, I also learned that any customer who requested a "pop of color" in their design would undoubtedly turn out to be a huge pain in the ass

and it happened so often that it became a named phenomenon in the shop. We called it "happy orange" because one of my customers spent literal months going back and forth between three shades of orange, finally settling on one because it was "happy" enough.

unrelated, but that same customer approached me while I was eating lunch in my car in the work parking lot to discuss more changes to her design while I had a mouth half full of sandwich

that customer was probably the main reason behind the mental breakdown that eventually led me to quit

I used to work at a car wrap shop and I hated everything about it, but one time while cleaning the wrap room I was at an all-time low so I put on a two hour loop of Biggie Cheese singing Mr. Boombastic. I quit later that same month after a mental breakdown but it was in no way related to the Biggie Cheese incident.

I can put this sound effect over anything and my husband will cease breathing from laughter. and he never gets tired of it either. well anyway jjk is his favorite show, and yesterday I sent him this. 100% annihilated him

I find it funny how there is a specific emoji just for gingers, but there isn’t a ginger option on any of the regular emojis

You know how your brain goes on autopilot sometimes and it tries to fill in for you when you’re not mentally present

Well I was blowing on my coffee to cool it down before drinking and after I took the first sip I zoned out. My brain thought it was doing me a service for filling in for me and it associated blowing with sniffing, so I sniffed my coffee and proceeded to burn myself shortly thereafter

You know how there’s always the movie about the city girl who moves out to the country and everyone thinks she’s helpless because she can’t wrassle a cow? What if they make a movie about a tough, leather-skinned cowboy who moves to the city and can’t even figure out how to order a pizza to survive

This is one of those posts I’ll think about for years

You can always start again. Clean out your social media. Create a new account for your new taste in music. Study or work in a new city. Start socialising with new people. Choose a new signature scent and style and purge the outdated parts of yourself. If you don’t like where you’re at, but you don’t know what to do about it - try starting again.
