It’s bathroom selifes like this, with Glade air fresheners and black star earrings where you look yourself in the mirror and go, “... fuck it! This is as good as it gets!” And like that, you walk that runway of life and you show everyone who you are and never look back! It’s okay to turn around sometimes because we all fall down, we all fuck up, but as long as you remember to keep going ... you’ll be fine.

California by BLINK-182
It’s hard for me to just make this a simple album review because blink-182 is a band that is very close to me; a band that opened me up to Punk Rock in general. So, being a diehard fan since the 8th Grade and Tom DeLonge being an idol to me; I shall begin.
I was devastated when I heard that blink-182 (Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker) were continuing their legacy without Tom DeLonge … why even keep the same name? Can you even do that? There is no way … I just can’t. I let it bother me so much that I had very low hopes for blink’s new album. I was wrong …
When I first heard the album I was reminded of so many different eras of blink-182, from “Dude Ranch” to “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket” to “Self-titled” and even, “Neighborhoods.” It’s got so much old feel to new feel to everything in-between, and it’s wonderful.
I’ve fallen in love with my favorite band all over again! It’s like nostalgia has came knocking on my door to remind me of when I was a teenager and to never give up on first loves, even during changes and hard times because change sometimes is for the better; you may not like it at first but eventually, you are reminded of why you fell in love with the band to begin with.
The album, “California,” makes me want to visit California and go to places like ‘Los Angeles’ (which is my favorite song on the album) or places like San Diego and live the moments they sing about or take a drive down Mulholland Drive jamming out to blink-182.
Matt Skiba, who replaced, Tom DeLonge, ended up filling his spot so well. He brings a great energy and sound to the band that sometimes wasn’t always there; don’t get me wrong, I am a true blink fan and I love everything blink has ever done, from “Flyswatter” in 1992 all the way up after their hiatus and even their EP, “Dogs Eating Dogs,” in 2012. Skiba does not have a distinct voice like Tom does, but he is great with melodies and his voice really fits great with Mark’s.
Anyway. Old blink fans, new blink fans, this is a great album! I am still heartbroken that they continued on without Tom but this goes to show that blink-182 is NOT over, they can still make great punk rock even after a break-up and replacing a long time member. blink-182 is forever!
Favorite tracks: Los Angeles, Cynical, Left Alone, and San Diego.
