The constructing of Alumni Hall began in 1926. One leisurely facet of Alumni is MacLean Terrace, located on the back side of the building, which provides a beautiful view overlooking Lake Massasoit.
The terrace was named after Mrs. Charles F. MacLean for her generous $10,000 donation to the building of the hall and funding of the college. Since its creation, it has been used as the setting for several events, including Springfield College's annual Stepping Up Day ceremony.
Just this past July, renovations began on MacLean Terrace to give it the face-lift that it deserved after so many years of wear and tear. By October, the job was complete and the terrace is now open again for students to enjoy!

Thanksgiving is lingering closer and closer with each passing day!
An old tradition that would happen around this time of year at the then YMCA International Training School, now Springfield College, was the annual Chestnut Hunt.
The 1904 yearbook describes it as this:
"As frost begins to appear all look forward with eager interest to the annual chestnut hunt on the Wilbraham Hill, ten miles to the east. The men dress in their old clothes, ready for a good time in any way, shape or manner. Songs, rough and tumble, tramping, and eating apples, together with apple and water fights, add their mite to the pleasure of the day."

Happy Mustache Monday!
This weeks incredible mustache belongs to Joel Dearing. Dearing was a graduate student at Springfield College, earning his Bachelor's in physical education in 1979. He later on became a professor here for the same thing.
Dearing found a great deal of success as a coach. Springfield hired him as the women's volleyball coach in 1989 and the men's volleyball coach in 1990, and through the years, he accumulated a 697-305 (.695) record. This impressive statistic gained Dearing a top 10 spot in Division III history.
He took his coaching experience to countries all over the globe and held clinics in places like Bermuda, China, and Ireland.
In 2006, Dearing received the "Trailblazer Award" from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and is now a member of the Volleyball Hall of Fame board of directors and the U.S. Coaching Accreditation Program Cadre.

Pictured here is one of Springfield College's most famous Tableaux.
The Tableau is used commonly in theater and represents a "living picture." It is performed every year at Homeshow in which the gymnasts act out a scene and then hold it, silent and motionless.
This Tableau is in particular called
"Aspiration"
and is performed to inspire the audience to strive towards their full potential in Spirit, Mind, and Body.

Humanics in Action Day is right around the corner!
This tradition originated when students were given a day off from classes to do some service work on the SC campus. As time went on, this idea expanded far beyond the campus itself and into the Springfield community, spreading the Humanics love - "the education of the whole person - in spirit, mind, and body - for leadership in service to others."
Pictured here are some students from 1948 constructing the sidewalks behind the Administration building.

Happy Mustache Monday!
Robert R. McBurney played a large role in developing the YMCA that we know and love today. He designed the first YMCA building, tailoring it to accommodate the program as well as its members. He also oversaw the opening of nine more facilities, which led to a drastic increase of membership.
And he did it all while rocking a killer 'stache. Way to go Mr. McBurney!
