This panel hurts me. Yes, it's part of Levi having abandonment issues, but it also suggests that Levi thinks he is forgettable, and that makes me so sad. He doesn't think of himself as someone who people will remember or put first despite him always putting others before himself.

Retar and his mate, manga and anime (Golden Kamuy)

My god the artists sure did cut corners on designing the wolves compared to the mangaka. They can look okay in some shots, but for the most part they look absolutely atrocious. Poor Retar looks like a mutant polar bear hybrid a lot of the time in the anime.

At least Studio BONES knew what they were doing, along with Ghibli and Production I.G, Inc (That did Jin-Roh). Those wolves are some of the best anime wolves I've seen.

I was talking with my friend about how disappointing it is that animal anatomy and animal animation aren't taught much in Japan for anime productions. If there are animals in anime, they are either one of three camps:

A: Secondary roles (Cowboy Bebob, Mononoke Hime).

B: Can transform into animals but are in their human forms 90% of the time (Wolf's Rain, Wolf Children).

C: One scene wonder (Jin Roh).

And the animes we have gotten that are centered around animal characters have been so poorly animated, like the Ginga series (Nagareboshi Gin and Densetsu Weed). Like, seriously? Horse legs? Square bodies? Anatomy, what's that???

There are also Arashi No Yoru Ni and Gamba, but they don't always walk plantigrade (Especially Gamba where they are fully anthro), and Chirin is only a short film. King Fang, the Call of the Wild and White Fang anime are not super well known, and those kinds are very hard to come by in the industry these days.

It's really a shame teaching animal anatomy/animation isn't such a huge priority over there. Human are more important, for some reason. But shouldn't you be able to animate anything? Because there are many great stories that can be adapted into anime. Sadly though I think they'll just resort to using 3D animation to make things easier if anyone ever tries to create an animal anime, which just reeks of laziness. It just doesn't look good. Studio Orange? Maybe they could do it well, as their animation is pretty good on Beastars.

But, at the end of the day, you really cannot beat traditional hand-drawn animation.

I don't think I shared these yet. A few character designs for the wolves of the Silven clan in my Wolf Song story.

They are Máni, Sol and Regn. They are all siblings (Half-brother, in the case of Regn).

Breakdown:

Máni is cool and collected but chooses to keep silent during her brother Sol's bloody escapades. She is morally questionable in some ways, but believes merely that she is doing the right thing despite all the suffering they cause.

Sol is batshit crazy. He as severe mommy and daddy issues and as a complete psychopathic man-child who is narcist and vain; also loves his sister Máni. Perhaps a bit too much (Jamie and Cersie all over again). He also loved their mother a bit too much. So, he is extremely fucked up in the head.

Regn is a poor pup who gets abused by Sol all the time, and was forsaken by their parents; he is a 'bastard' by parentage and so he was never loved. But out of all of them, he is the least disturbing; he merely goes along with the war and stuff to appease Sol and is morally good for the most part, only misguided.

Some more recent-ish art. Got two more references nailed, Geist hasn’t changed at all. Hunter just had a slight marking and palette change. There’s a chance a younger reference for him will be drawn? Though I’m not certain it will be needed, as there are no planned flashbacks for this character.

So I saw the two most recent pages of Home by Kique Nordin, and it first occurred to me just how awfully rushed these pages are. The last page, Page 807 (yes, seriously, there are 800+ pages and nothing has happened lol), it was daytime and Roamer and Kargo talked about the former killing a dog in cold-blood with no remorse like a psychopath. Yet now, it is suddenly in the evening?

So, Ronja's Mary-Sue daughters asking her about the raiding dogs in Panel#1 made me think it took place right after Roamer and Kargo's convo last page. But the rest of the page shows that its somewhere in the evening? What?

All because Kique didn't bother to put in a timeline box (for lack of a better word) on the upper corner of the first panel. Which is what he has done every time a scene cuts to a later time in a day, or a time-skip (a month later, a week later, etc.). And now it suddenly jumps to night.

And Ronja still hasn't punished Roamer for killing that dog. Not surprised. Also, Deer-Fucker Dog (whatever the eff your name was), you are a fucking idiot. More bloodshed would have made things even worse! All they were doing was forcefully evicting MT from their land (btw, what was stopping them from doing that years ago when Arenak was leader??). Yeah, they were destroying their property, which is awful anyway, but someone destroying another person's stuff shouldn't be punishable by DEATH. Ronja specifically said NOT to harm them. Going against that order puts Meteor Tribe in jeopardy. Not to mention, they weren't physically assaulting anyone. Roamer killing the dog was uncalled for.

Some comments from the newest page. It baffles me that a whole day has gone by, and Ronja STILL hasn't punished Roamer. Roamer should be held accountable for disobeying her orders to not hurt anyone. The fact that the MT is on constant alert now is part of the consequence of Roamer's actions. While Deer-Fucker's advice is true, that if she wants to lead the tribe, Ronja needs to toughen up and not let anyone walk all over her. But if she still allows Roamer to get away with doing whatever he wants, she'll stay a doormat.

I doubt Kique will ever let his precious Roami-Stu face real consequences for his actions. Dude has put the entire tribe at risk, yet Ronja and Rogio have talked about it like Roamer (to quote someone in the earlier comments a few pages back) "stole a coworker's lunch".

I also hate how Kique is still turning Vigr, the same dog that pinned Ronja to prepare her "marking" (rape) by Arenak, into a "comic-relief".

Gotta love retconning previously-evil rapist characters, huh, Kique?? He didn't even show any of these characters getting redemption arcs either. We just have to "assume" all of the rapists are dead in the present, and Vigr and Fúss were good all along but were just "acting on orders" out of fear or some BS, despite never SHOWING any of it. Same with Rogihoe--I mean, ROGIO's so-called redemption.

Everything about Home is awful, and I don't recommend it to any animal xenofiction lover.
