Pan, the Greek god of the wild, shepherds and flocks. As he represented the art of domestication of animals he himself had retained part of his feral nature. The same way goats seem to eternally retain part of their feral nature despite Humanity's best efforts to domesticate them. He was most often seen playing pipes, called syrinx as he was a god of impromptus or gallivanting through the woods, sometimes indulging in some debaucheries. At the same time Pan had some propensity towards rage, when provoked, that could induce a mass panic in people or sudden panic amongst animals. This panic could cause army to undertake actions based on confusable interpretation of enemy's moves. So the word "panic" comes from Pan. He was also believed to be capable of possessing people and inducing them to commit savage acts of violence. This was called "panalepsy". Pan with his feral undertones might represent that part of human nature that can easily become feral.
