Heart to heart by an Egyptian abroad
205 posts
My name is Sarah. I was born in Alexandria, Egypt and moved to Toronto at an early age. The revolution of January 25th, revealed a side of me I never knew existed and this page has been created to help the world hear the cries of the people of Egypt, My people!

As terrible as this accident may be, reading about the reaction of the locals warmed my heart. The world needs more humanity.
"people brought welding materials to the accident site to cut the rails to help get passengers out. “Women brought water and sugar for the injured, and locals used their trucks to pull the wreckage,” he said.

Beyond sad to hear about the church blasts in Egypt. May the lives of those lost in the house of God rest in peace.

My favourite quote "Egyptians can never be deemed as followers of Saudi Arabia's policies because they are a nation of great history, civilization, politics and military, while Saudi Arabia lacks those features,"
So many good nuggets in this article Amani doesn't hold back!

Why aren’t people talking?
You’d think that the tragedies of Quebec City Mosque would have all Canadians up in arms. Hate Crimes causing loss of life is the furthest thing away from our normal news, and yet, instead of making headlines, instead of getting people to take a stand, the news are on the sidelines of our daily lives. Canadians go about their business, as if that awful act didn’t happen on Canadian soil.
Remember the terrorist in Ottawa last year? Oh wait, maybe it was Harper’s year. That made global news, not only local. We talked about it for months, speculated all kinds of conspiracies, studied the gunmen’s mindset leading up to that very day where he hurt nobody!
But now that we have 6 in body bags, no one speculates and no one speaks. That’s blood on our hands if we remain sheeps. I don’t want to put blame, I just want to understand....Why aren't people talking if they don’t think it’s fair?

I’m angry at democracy
They taught me to love it, They said it was the only path to our dreams, They said without it, freedom has no voice and equality has no shield More than the banner I held up in the streets The banner of democracy was in my core believes, I fought for it with every ounce of my existence I drank its Kool-Aid and opposed the resistance But as much as I loved it, democracy has deceived me With democratically elected leaders that impede my freedoms Police forces that see people based on their colors And executive orders discriminating against a group and not the other How do I renew my faith in your promises of free speech? How do I continue to waive your flag and sign up for your deal I’m angry at democracy ‘cause I dare not say that humanity cheated me I’d rather blame the system than lose faith in its people!

On January 25th,2014....
It may not be time to celebrate but it is certainly time to check yourself and remember why the revolution happened, remember those who died and got injured. Remember those who spoke up at a time where no one else dared to whisper their thoughts even to themselves. Remember the day we broke the silence and tore down the wall of fear but most of all remember, that's it's far from over but it's all worth it for our Egypt!
