A number of my kids’ favorite teachers have lost their homes in the Eaton fire, in Altadena. Thank to the enormous generosity of the community, most of these GoFundMes have nearly reached their goal already, but I am posting the links here anyway. Not only in case anyone wishes to donate, but also to raise awareness that wealthy celebrities were not the only people who lost everything in this disaster. The amount of cynicism and hatred I’ve seen on social media over the past few days, ignorantly assuming that all those affected are rich people who “deserve” it, truly disgusts me. The families here are headed by incredible teachers and staff members who give tirelessly to the children of this community. Nobody deserves to lose everything, but to suggest that these educators did is appalling and just adds more pain to their already horrific situation.
